Join Kosta and his guest: Dr. Justin Murdock, Ecologist, Professor of Biology, and Director of The Water Research Center at Tennessee Technological University. In this episode: Let's start from the top, because if I'm being honest, my knowledge of Tennessee's wetlands is that I'd assume it's wet land. In April a bill passed the Tennessee House Legislature 71-21 to remove protections for up to 80% of Tennessee's wetlands. What does that actually mean for our land, our water, and our safety? Lawmakers behind this bill claimed that isolated wetlands (especially small ones) are just “damp dirt.” From a scientific perspective, what do we lose when we lose even “minor” wetlands? This bill was framed as a defense of property owners' rights. For anyone that's tried to get flood insurance lately, I bet you can think of other property owners' rights you might want more. Who pays the price when developers are no longer required to mitigate destruction of wetlands?Find out more about The Water Research Center and Dr. Justin Murdock: https://www.tntech.edu/research/wrc/https://www.tntech.edu/directory/cas/biology/justin-murdock.phpBetter Together with Kosta Yepifantsev is a product of Morgan Franklin Media and recorded in Cookeville, TN.This episode of Better Together with Kosta Yepifantsev is made possible by our partners at Aspire Barber and Beauty Academy.Find out more about Aspire Barber and Beauty Academy:https://aspirebarberandbeauty.com

Join Kosta and his guest: Dr. Chelsea Dowell, Professor of Economics at Tennessee Tech University. In this episode: It was the most Googled question on November 6th, the day after the 2024 United States Presidential Election, and we're here to ask you (a much more qualified resource than Google) what is a tariff?James Carville said it best, “It's the economy stupid.” We're all worried about the economy, but what exactly are we worried about? What's made our groceries, housing and everything we spend our paycheck on, especially here in the Upper Cumberland so much more expensive? We're told daily our economy in the State of Tennessee is one of the best in the United States. According to the published budget on our state website we have a rainy day fund of $2,070,000,000.00. However, Tennessee is ranked in the top 10 states for poverty, and the median income is $33,901.00. How can the economy be thriving, and our state has billions in savings, while the average Tennessean is making roughly $16 an hour?Find out more about the Economics program at Tennessee Technological University:https://www.tntech.edu/majors/economics.phphttps://www.tntech.edu/directory/business/chelsea-dowell.phpBetter Together with Kosta Yepifantsev is a product of Morgan Franklin Media and recorded in Cookeville, TN.This episode of Better Together with Kosta Yepifantsev is made possible by our partners at Miss Sallie's Market.Find out more about Miss Sallie's Market:https://www.misssallies.com
Join Kosta and his guest: Mark Creter, Professor of Theatre for the School of Music at Tennessee Technological University. Proudly serving as the artistic director of the campus theatre, the Backdoor Playhouse from 1992-2024, for the past 30-years Mark's dedicated his life to the development, expansion and betterment of the performing arts at Tennessee Tech, and across the Upper Cumberland. In this episode: You're no stranger to the partisan divide and increasingly conservative values of this community. What role does threatre and the performing arts play in leveling the playing field and turning down the temperature to help us see each other as equals? This fall you're directing The Two Gentlemen of Verona, which will premiere this Friday, October 4th and run until October 12th. For anyone counting this is Mark's 9th time directing for Shakespeare in the park. What can we expect from this performance? Whether it's on a state, local or campus level, the past few years have brought to light several questions about the morality and legality of men dressing in women's clothes and vice versa. As someone that's worked in the theatre their entire life, and studied the history of performing arts (and costuming), how did we get here and more importantly what can we do to move forward?Find out more about Mark's Next Production - Two Gentlemen of Verona:

About Joe Beatrice, Founder: Joe Beatrice has built his career on new ideas. A former marketing and technology entrepreneur, Joe founded his first company, Blue Dingo Digital, in the 1990s to help companies use the Internet to establish, brand, and grow their products. But after 20 years, Joe was ready for a change. A longtime homebrewer, Joe saw the true magic of spirits after a transformative experience tasting whiskey straight from the barrel for the very first time. In 2013, he launched Barrel Craft Spirits in Louisville, Kentucky, the epicenter of the American spirits industry. Instead of building his own distillery, Joe questioned the conventional wisdom and took a different course. He sourced and blended exceptional casks from established producers, bottled whiskeys at cask strength, and sold them as transparently as possible. That approach was unique in the United States, but not the world. Scotland's long-established independent bottlers were a major inspiration, and Joe was captivated by their ability to elevate barrels of whisky into something greater than the sum of their parts. He sensed that American consumers, too, would embrace the chance to explore whiskey in an entirely new way. Joe sold early releases case by case, personally pounding the pavement to drum up interest from bartenders and retailers. It turned out his visionary instincts were spot on once again. Barrell Craft Spirits' cask-strength small-batch and single-barrel releases quickly became an influencing force in American whiskey, picking up awards from the world's most prestigious spirits competitions. Joe remains intimately involved with every step of the production process at Barrell Craft Spirits, using his exceptional palate alongside master blender Tripp Stimson to choose and create great spirits. Creative finishes, a liberated approach to blending, and a deep-seated commitment to releasing each whiskey at cask strength and without chill filtration - just like that fateful barrel tasting years ago-continues to guide every product release. Tripp Stimson, Director of Distillery Operations & Chief Whiskey Scientist: Tripp hails from Chattanooga, Tennessee. In 2004, following his graduation from Tennessee Technological University with a degree in biochemistry and molecular biology, he was recruited as a Research and Development Scientist for the Brown Forman Corporation, headquarters to Jack Daniel's, Woodford Reserve and Old Forrester. There he gained his experience in yeasting, fermentation, and the distillery sciences and operations that make a distillery operate successfully and efficiently. Following his 9 years with Brown Forman, Tripp formed his own consulting company providing the technical expertise needed to design, build and efficiently run a new distillery. He's been a key component in the success of distilleries around the country. Most recently, he helped to design and build the Kentucky Artisan Distillery, where he was later employed as Master Distiller and the Director of Distillery Operations. He oversaw all the Jefferson's Reserve project design and implementation including Jefferson's Groth, and Jefferson's Barrel Aged Manhattan. Additionally, he built the first malting operation in Kentucky in 2016. Tripp met Joe Beatrice at Kentucky Artisan Distillery and they began their work there together blending and producing interesting and unique whiskeys. He joined Barrell Craft Spirits in January of 2017 as the Master Distiller and Director of Distillery Operations and is responsible for developing our product formulation and leading the distillery building initiative.

Listen to Chris Gerbig, co-founder and president of Pink Lily, in this episode of Retail Corner on how to focus on growing the brand naturally. The story of Pink Lily is very inspiring and a must for entrepreneurs to get some insights. You will listen to our host talking with Chris on the following points: Would you mind sharing a bit about your background with the audience and how Pink Lily came to be? How did Pink Lily manage to achieve $4 million in sales within its first year of launching? What strategies or factors contributed to its rapid growth and profitability? How has technology influenced the fashion and retail industries, and what specific advancements have had the most significant impact? Can you explain the role of retail e-commerce in the fashion industry, and how companies can leverage data to derive meaningful insights for their businesses? When considering the impact of social media on a brand, what are some key benefits that come from integrating brand ambassadors into the business model? Looking ahead, what trends do you foresee in the fashion and retail industries, both in terms of technology adoption and consumer behavior? About our guest, Chris Gerbig: As a self-proclaimed business and finance nerd, Chris Gerbig's professional journey started as you might expect. He earned a Bachelor of Science in finance from Western Kentucky University, then spent nearly a decade in personal finance and banking, corporate finance, and global supply chain management for companies that include Bank of America, Fruit of the Loom, and Dollar General Corporation. But he became tired of corporate America, wanting more time with his family and fewer hours spent in a cubicle. Simultaneously, as he and his wife, Tori, began selling items on online marketplaces to pay off student loans, inspiration struck, and they decided to take a risk. In 2014, the two founded Pink Lily to bring women an ever-changing assortment of apparel, footwear, and accessories, and the lifestyle brand quickly became one of the fastest-growing online retailers in America. In the years since, Pink Lily has continued to bring fashion, positivity, and community to its customers as a family-owned and family-run business. As president, Chris is responsible for finance/accounting, recruiting, IT, operations, supply chain, and legal. Even while working full-time at Pink Lily, Chris also completed his MBA at Tennessee Technological University, graduating magna cum laude. Chris is most proud of profitably growing a side hustle into a mega lifestyle brand without any outside funding or investments. To date, Pink Lily has sold over $200,000,000 worth of products online, and Chris has invested in and managed over 120,000 square feet of real estate. These accomplishments have earned him a spot on the Inc. 5000 list three times. Chris has a wealth of experience, education, and real-life knowledge that he loves to share with other aspiring entrepreneurs. He has written multiple articles for Forbes' Business Development Council. He is open to speaking engagements on business and entrepreneurship topics such as e-commerce, startups, finance, technology, and real estate. Slam the Gavel welcomes Leisa Loftis, CPA to the podcast. She has over 24 years of experience and began her career, after graduating from Tennessee Technological University, at RSM International in Washington DC. After working in public accounting for RSM as an Audit Supervisor Leisa left public accounting to work for Stanley Associates as an Accounting Manager. While at Stanley Leisa successfully assisted in taking the company public on the NYSE with their IPO in October 2006 raising over $80 million dollars in capital. Prior to the IPO she assisted in designing and implementing newly enacted legislation, known at the time as Sarbanes Oxley. Her work satisfied the PCAOB, SEC, DCAA as well as the audit teams of both Deloitte & Ernst & Young. Leisa worked through several M&A's and Stanley was later merged with CGI, Inc out of Canada. She returned to her hometown of Cookeville, Tennessee where she opened her consulting practice in 2007 while continuing to work as a federal contractor in Washington DC. Loftis CPA was a paperless hybrid firm from inception as Leisa worked remotely from DC and occasionally met with her clients in person in Tennessee. Leisa volunteered her time to many local nonprofits as well as gave back to the accounting profession by mentoring local high school accounting students through the TSCPA. One of her student teams from CHS competed internationally in a business plan competition sponsored by Microsoft and won 3rd place for 'Best Business Plan'. Leisa also chaired a successful mentoring pilot program with the AICPA Young CPA committee. This mentoring program was designed to match CPAs with aspiring CPAs from colleges and universities across the USA to help them transition from college life to a professional career. Leisa has worked with small mom & pop companies using QuickBooks all the way to multiple large conglomerates based in Tokyo. Leisa has issued J GAAP reporting packages as well as US GAAP financial statements. Leisa has found working with her Japanese counterparts to be very exciting, fulfilling work and the time zones make the relationship a perfect match! We have become an international small firm and are always excited to partner with entities overseas. In 2011 she was selected by the AICPA to participate in the AICPA's Leadership Academy and she continues to give back to her profession as often as possible by mentoring students and volunteering for the AICPA Scholarship Task Force. We talked about www.whiteribbonTN.org and that she received great news that her organization may be able to link with NOVA for a better way to train an advocate. A volunteer to sit with a survivor of the Family Court System for Emotional Support and be a Court Watcher. Leisa wants to bring advocates to her area in TN, but to all the states eventually. Did you know that when playing your instrument, that there's actually a question of ergonomics? Beyond getting the best sound possible, is there a better way to hold your instrument? Is your posture the best for you when performing? Are you standing or sitting correctly? How about that pain-related playing you experience after long hours of practicing or performing. He has pastored in Washington, Kentucky, Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee.“I am very concerned by the biblical illiteracy in America, even in our churches. So many reject Jesus based on a false image created by academia and popular media, never knowing the real Jesus. I write to help introduce people to the real Jesus of the Bible.”Dr. Elliott is available to speak at your church or event. You may contact him at RevJDElliott@gmail.comAbout the book:Have you ever wondered why the Apostles believed Jesus to the point of dying for that belief? In less than fifty years, a pagan world was turned upside down by Jesus fever. Everyone wanted to be like Jesus. His followers were called "little Christs," or Christians. Converts were being added to the local church daily, and the message of the gospel was exciting. But today, Jesus has become a ridiculed figure in society and an embarrassment to Christians. What happened? In Restoring Jesus, you will see the gospels in a fresh light that goes back to the first century to discover who Jesus really is. Author Dr. Jeffery Elliott invites you to think about why the apostles believed in Jesus so strongly that they were willing to die torturous deaths--what made them so confident in Jesus' identity? But through their own eyewitness accounts, we can have our sight restored to the truth and believe in Jesus just as the apostles did.Read ancient prophecies, revel in divine signs, explore eyewitness accounts, and comb through historical documents to find the hidden truth that is missing from the church today. Although many in the church today have had their eyes diverted from the truth of Jesus's identity, you can look to the Word and once again see the powerful, life-transforming truth of Christ.https://www.restoringjesus.com/https://www.facebook.com/Restoring-Jesus-100506821643229https://twitter.com/Jeffery99188505https://www.linkedin.com/in/dr-jeffery-elliott-60198356https://vimeo.com/290918402https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCve8qvr9tkZX5seWr0lX5hQAs always, thanks for spending your moments with us. Have you ever considered taking your skill set and training to the realm of innovation and entrepreneurship? What would it look like to start exploring a career in the marketplace? Here to share her story and encourage postdocs and researchers like you is Vanderbilt University’s, Deanna Meador. Deanna is the assistant director of the Wond’ry at Vanderbilt University. She joined Vanderbilt in 2009 where she began working with the Peabody Research Institute (PRI), now the Peabody Research Office. Deanna and her husband Jason became entrepreneurs in 2007 when they founded a mineral makeup business that grew to multiple retail locations in two states that they ran together until it was acquired by another company. She is 1 of 3 inventors developing a new edtech platform that will allow early childhood professionals to collect data, compare that data, and receive tailored feedback to improve classroom practices for our youngest students. The classroom practices measured by the tool have been demonstrated to relate to children’s academic performance. This work is funded by the National Science Foundation. Deanna received her B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Middle Tennessee State University and her M.A. in Educational Psychology and Counseling from Tennessee Technological University. What You’ll Hear On This Episode of When Science Speaks [1:00] Mark introduces his guest, Deanna Meador. [2:35] Deanna talks about the Wond’ry at Vanderbilt University. [6:20] What is the Innovation Garage? [10:00] Deanna reflects on the impact of the Wond’ry. [13:00] How students and researchers from different disciplines come together. [16:00] What led to the creation of the Wond’ry? How did Deanna end up at Vanderbilt? [23:15] Deanna’s advice for students who want to get involved with startups. [26:45] The benefit of working in a team environment. [29:00] Don’t be afraid about talking about your idea! [31:30] Red flags for budding entrepreneurs. [36:50] Simplifying your message. Connect with Deanna Meador Deanna on LinkedIn Resources & People Mentioned The Wond’ry at Vanderbilt University The Innovation Garage What is the Wond’ry? What if there were a program wholly dedicated to innovation and entrepreneurship at your college or university? Would you explore a program like that? Too often, researchers and postdocs miss out on marketplace opportunities to use their skill sets simply because they haven’t been exposed to the possibilities. Thankfully - innovative programs like the Wond’ry at Vanderbilt University are hard at work to change that narrative. The Wond’ry is the epicenter for innovation and entrepreneurship at Vanderbilt University. Its three-story, 13,000-square foot space, located adjacent to the Engineering and Science Building, facilitates transinstitutional collaboration between students and faculty from all schools, levels, and disciplines. From engineers to scientists to entrepreneurs to artists, the Wond’ry is the primary point of connection for students interested in innovation and entrepreneurship. At the Wond’ry there is something for everyone, from speaker series and workshops to maker spaces, interactive art exhibits and unique corporate partnerships. The Wond’ry provides students opportunities to gain real-world experience in creating new processes, building new technologies, and forming fresh insights. Turn your ideas into action! What is the difference between someone who makes an impact in the world and someone who doesn’t? The key ingredient is action. Action is the catalyst that takes a dormant idea and moves it into the realm of reality. Does that mean that every action-taker is an innovative entrepreneur? Not by a long shot. Taking action is the critical first step that’s needed before you can get to the fun part - experimentation and innovation. One of the best ways to take action and start exploring the viability of your idea is to talk about it. Many budding entrepreneurs that Deanna mentors to at the Wond’ry are concerned that talking about their ideas will lead to someone stealing it. In Deanna’s experience, those concerns are largely overblown. Most researchers and postdocs aren’t out to steal your ideas - they are too busy trying to make their ideas and innovations a reality. Deanna also encourages aspiring entrepreneurs to keep an open mind when it comes to funding their innovations. The typical route of raising millions and millions of dollars isn’t always the best route to take - there are more options out there. This is just a snapshot of Mark’s wide-ranging conversation with Deanna. To hear their full conversation - make sure to listen to this episode of When Science Speaks. Iraq’s Kurds have been making international headlines since September after forging ahead with their independence referendum, despite regional and international warnings. They are the only one of the Middle East's Kurdish communities to have their own regional government. The other notable communities are in Turkey, Iran and Syria. So who are the Kurds? Origins “They are a separate ethnic group, living in the Middle East where Turkey, Iran, Syria and Iraq meet. They have been there as long as we know,” says Michael Gunter, a professor at the Tennessee Technological University, who has been researching and writing about the Kurds for over 30 years. And as Gérard Gauthier, an anthropologist and researcher at the Kurdish Institute of Paris, adds ”You also have Kurds in the former Soviet Union [….] There have been Kurds in Pakistan, in Afghanistan, in Georgia, you even have Kurds, I suspect, in China as well. So they are present in a lot of places. But basically the heart of their area is the Middle East.” While an actual Kurdish state is harder to trace in history, the fact remains that the Kurdish people have been in the Middle East region since as far back as 400BC. Contact with ancient Greece In fact, an ancient Greek general by the name of Xenophon details this in his work, Anabasis (The March Up Country). “Xenophon was the head of a troop of 10,000 Greek mercenaries and they were working for a Persian king," explains Gauthier. "And they were defeated and they had to leave Tsifphon, which is near Baghdad, at the time and had to walk all the way back to Greece. At one point they found a tribe of mountain people who blocked their passage, and those people described themselves as Kardokhoy.” It's hard to verify 100 percent if the Kurds were in fact this Kardokhoy or Karochi group and another theory states they are descendants of the Medes, an ancient people who lived in the north-west of what is now Iran. “The Kurds themselves claim to be the descendants of the Medes," adds Gunter. "The Medes were an Assyrian empire in 612BC. But we're not absolutely sure of that. The origins of the Kurds are lost in history. But they certainly have been there for a long time." Tribal allegiances The Kurds speak a language that is similar to Persian but unrelated to Arabic or Turkish. In fact, Gunter points out that the Kurds are a “separate ethnic group, completely different from the Turks and Arabs. [They] speak an Indo-European language, so they are related to the Iranians.” Even though there was a common language and culture among the Kurds, as was the case among other ethnic groups in the area, Kurdish unity was often based on tribal lines. This idea of fidelity to tribal lines goes back as far as the Middle Ages, says Gauthier, as it was important in “ keeping the communities together in times when you had the big wars and destruction” such as the Crusaders and the invasion of the Mongols. He adds that such events brought along destruction to the Middle East and so divisions along tribal lines would have been reinforced. Arrival of Islam During the seventh century, Islam spread from the Arabian Peninsula, bringing another unifying element to the Kurds: religion. Although uniting the Kurds under one banner was not really what was happening. “Because at the time of the empires -- Ottoman empires, Persian empires -- even before when it was the Caliph and you had a united Middle East with a Muslim caliph, then you had a lot of different communities in there. You had Turks, you had Arabs, Persians, Kurds, and the people they had unity and the banner of Islam basically,” explains Gauthier. He adds that like the other groups within the Ottoman Empire, the Kurds would also have spoken several languages. One famous Kurd from the Abbasid Muslim Caliphate was Saladin; he was a sultan, though he also received the title of king, but he was known for leading Islamic forces against the European Crusaders. After his big victory, however, he was revered not for his ethnicity as a Kurd but simply for being a great fighter. Independence So we see that the Kurds have always been a part of the regional history of the Middle East. But have they ever had independent states? “Well into the 19th century there were Kurdish immigrants who by today's standards meet many of the criteria for independence,” says Gunter. “And there's an ancient Kurdish history called Sharafnama, written by Sharaf al-Din Bitlisi in 1596, in which he talks about at least five Kurdish dynasties or emirates in the past that had the attributes of what we would today call independence. So it's possible to say that in effect there were independent Kurdish entities four to five hundred years ago which were eventually wiped out by the Ottoman and Persian empires.” Gauthier notes that al-Din Bitlisi was in fact a Kurd, although the manuscripts were written in Persian, since he was an administrator in the Ottoman Empire and also with the Savafid shahs, the rival Persian dynasty at the time. He began to put to paper the history of the Kurdish local dynasties. As Gauthier explains, Bitlisi wondered if they, the Kurds, had their own prince who could lead them; perhaps they would no longer be exploited by the Turks, Persians and Arabs. So already by the 16th century, we see that the Kurdish people, under Ottoman rule by then, were feeling the pinch. One mustn’t forget that under Ottoman rule, different ethnic and cultural groups were living side by side; but no one had independence. Each province, such as Syria, or Egypt, was ruled by a chosen representative of the Ottomans. The idea of the nation-state The notion of the nation-state as it is currently understood is a modern idea, appearing at the end of the 19th-century. It was really after World War I, which saw the disintegration of the Ottoman empire, that the push for nation-states took effect in the Middle East. “Obviously there was a big push for the idea of a nation-state with Kurds at the end of the Ottoman empire because the people had to choose,” says Gauthier. “A lot of those Kurds, they were generals, officers, administrators to the Ottoman empire, they had Ottoman identity.” And so when the Ottoman empire ceased to exist, many Kurds had to make a choice. And this is where the Kurds may have had a chance to have a state. But don’t forget they had spent years spread out over the region. So when Turkey, Iraq and Syria all pushed for independent states in response to the mandates run by Western powers that replaced the Ottomans, the Kurds found themselves in the middle of it all. “Then in 1918 when the modern state system was created, you created another division between Kurds: Turkish Kurds, Iranian Kurds, Iraqi Kurds and Syrian Kurds” explains Gunter. “That's been going on for a 100 years now. So that's another way the Kurds are divided between the four states that they live in.” In fact, the Kurds almost had a state. As the big Western powers were carving up the Middle East, the 1920 Treaty of Sèvres proposed a Kurdish state in part of what was to become Turkey, although the Kurdish nationalists themselves could not agree on what its borders should be. But the treaty was rejected by the creator of modern Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, who launched a war against the Greeks, Italians, British and French. “He [Ataturk] first recruited them [Kurds] against the imperialists, saying we are going to set up a state, which will be a state of brotherhood between Turks and Kurds and when he won he told them there [are] no Kurds,” explains Gauthier. Added to that problem was the fact that the Kurds didn’t have a central figure to bring them together to push for their own state at the time. So they turned to the British. The British were in the north of Iraq and were initially interested in creating a Kurdish state, as a kind of buffer state between Iraq and Mustafa Kemal’s Turkey. “But then they discovered the oil, so they forgot about this buffer state,” says Gauthier. So the Kurdish populations were absorbed into Iran, Syria, Iraq and Turkey. But constant tensions between the Kurdish communities and their country’s governments have always been a reason for them to push for their own state. In the case of Iraq’s Kurds, the US's 2003 invasion of Iras gave them outside support to set up their autonomous region, says Gunter. But as Iraqi’s Kurds face the consequences of pushing ahead with their quest for independence, Falah Mustafa, the foreign minister of the Kurdish Regional Government says that the Kurds are “a different nation”. Their efforts for independence have not worked out thus far, but “we tried our best, we went to Baghdad, we played a positive role. …. we should not be punished. We have to be realistic.”
Katie Smithson picks her battles. Even well-meaning colleagues occasionally make insulting or offensive comments, and a professional woman has to decide what she can brush off and what she simply cannot accept. Though the lines can be blurry, nine years in the industry have taught Katie how to establish boundaries and present herself as a professional. Katie grew up in Franklin, Tennessee, and went to school at Tennessee Technological University. Discouraged by the boys’ club that was electrical engineering, she changed her plans and pursued a degree in marketing. Her first foray into sales and customer service was at a Sprint/Nextel store back in Franklin, where she saw the first MLS searches on a Blackberry. After a move to Knoxville, Katie worked in marketing for a local mortgage company that happened to use CRS Data for tax purposes. Tired of spending her days in a cubicle, she noticed an opening for a trainer at CRS. Katie won them over and secured her first job in real estate. After four years working with agents, realtors and MLS execs to implement the use of CRS products, Katie had a conversation with Greg in a lobby bar at CMLS Boston, and the rest is history. She has worked at W+R Studios for five years, serving as Director of MLS Services since 2016. Today she shares the details of her activism through the Georgia Women’s Policy Institute, the challenges for women in the real estate industry, and her advice around establishing professional boundaries. They originally met during their years at Tennessee Technological University. They moved back to Nashville in March of 2000 after living in Greenville, South Carolina for six years. They now have three boys. As you can imagine, there is never a dull moment at their home. How to Pick Up a Stripper and Other Acts Of Kindness spotlights the ministry at Todd Stevens' church in Nashville, TN, Friendship Community Church, where he serves as the lead pastor. The congregation is known for bringing creative ways to show God's love to the community, which can be as simple as buying lunch for the person in line behind you or even starting Nashville Strip Church. During a twenty-one-day fast, Erin prayed for God's guidance and He told her, “feed the strippers.” She heeded the godly call and began serving food to strippers and other employees at a Nashville strip club. She didn't take a Bible and she didn't preach; she just showered the love of Jesus on everyone. Before long, questions were being asked about Erin's faith that led to one of the strippers turning her life over to Christ, going to college, and pursuing a degree in law enforcement. This woman now helps Erin with the Nashville Strip Church ministry. Visit this unique ministry at www.stripchurch.com.
