The discussion reveals how the Church's approach to failed marriages isn't about finding loopholes, but rather about determining whether a true marriage existed in the first place according to Catholic teaching.Questions we answer in this episode:How does a Catholic annulment differ from a civil divorce? What happens if one spouse refuses to participate in the annulment process? How does the Church support children whose parents are going through divorce?Key Takeaways:The Catholic Church views marriage as a permanent covenant—annulments determine if a valid marriage ever existedAnnulment processes include extensive pastoral and legal support systemsLocal priests serve as initial guides but specialized Church courts handle the formal proceedingsThis episode offers invaluable insights for anyone navigating the complex intersection of faith and divorce. Whether you're Catholic or simply interested in understanding different approaches to marriage dissolution, Father Mowry's explanation of the Church's compassionate yet structured approach to failed marriages provides a fascinating perspective on healing and moving forward.Links & NotesLearn more about Father David Mowry on his websiteSchedule a consult with SethGot a question you want to ask on the show? A CMO Confidential Interview with Dr. Eugene Soltes, Harvard Business School Professor and author of "Why They Do It - Inside the Mind of the White Collar Criminal". Eugene discusses how most crimes start out as small, often unnoticed decisions made by strategic people, how nearly everyone has a chance to step over the line, why many companies (Air BnB, Uber, AI) take regulatory risk, and how culture drives poor individual choices. Key topics include: when puffery gets murky; why it's dangerous to "convince yourself;" why it doesn't matter "who signed off;" and the "fraud triangle." Listen in to hear why humility and counterpoints are critical, what he learned about risk assessment from the Free Solo climber, the "difference between being an arms dealer and a transportation company," and how there are "a million ways to pay a bribe."In Part 2 of our conversation with Harvard Business School professor and author of Why They Do It, Dr. Eugene Soltes, we dive even deeper into the ethical gray zones that surround today's most ambitious companies. From social media firms that hide behind “just connecting people” to leaders who convince themselves their actions are justified, Eugene explains how culture, rationalization, and groupthink drive even the smartest executives into trouble. You'll learn why having a sign-off from Legal is never enough, why the “show me where it says I can't” culture is so corrosive, and why CMOs must understand the difference between business risk and integrity risk. We also hear Eugene's story of climbing (briefly) with Free Solo legend Alex Honnold and how that shaped his thinking around open-eyed risk—a model every marketing leader should understand.Topics include: • Why CMOs can't hide behind Legal • The “arms dealer” mindset in corporate marketing • Risk culture vs. innovation culture • How companies accidentally incentivize bad behavior • Psychological safety vs. performative candor • The million ways bribes get disguised • The importance of personal humility—even in the C-Suite

This week we're diving into the wonderfully gloomy world of Emma Ruth Rundle. Or more specifically, we're having a bit of a discussion whether she's actually goth or not, what goth even means, and how it may be broader than some think. Musically, Chris thinks most of her catalogue is a bit pants but she has artistic integreity. Mark reckons she's brilliant. Emma Ruth Rundle has spent her career shape-shifting between projects like some sort of musical chameleon with commitment issues. From her early folk-gaze days with The Nocturnes to her brief stint with post-rock titans Red Sparrows. From the overlooked Marriages project to her increasingly experimental solo work. She's never been one to stay in her lane. The question is: does all this reinvention actually work, or is it just restless artist syndrome? We get deep into the weeds of her entire discography. Our main focus is 2016's "Marked for Death", which Mark insists is her masterpiece and Chris... well, Chris has opinions. We also tackle the thorny question of what actually constitutes "goth" in 2025. Spoiler: it's probably not what you think. Plus we discuss her genuinely unnerving experimental albums. And try to work out why Sargent House thought it was a good idea to send a recovering alcoholic to record alone in the desert. With unlimited booze. “Usually, people are not trying to kill you or keep you alive for nefarious reasons, unless you're very old and very rich and very mean.” -Patricia De Fonte When most people think of estate planning, they imagine dividing assets among children or a spouse—but Patricia De Fonte, founder of De Fonte Law, offers a broader and deeper perspective. Our hosts, Stephanie McCullough and Kevin Gaines, sit down with Patricia to explore what “estate planning with heart” really means, especially for those without children or partners. People often name child-free individuals as caretakers without their consent, adding invisible burdens. To anybody in this situation, Patricia urges taking ownership: ask questions, know what's expected, and ensure fair compensation. Far from dry legal jargon, Patricia's approach to estate planning is a refreshing blending of emotional realism with practical wisdom. The stories she shares—from hospital disputes to posthumous family rifts—tell us just how crucial it is to name the right people, update our documents, and make our values explicit. She encourages everyone to assemble a personal and professional support team, use tools like detailed healthcare directives, and even consider gifts for healthcare proxies as acts of compassion. Plan not just for assets, but for relationships and peace of mind.   Key Topics: Patricia's Philosophy on Estate Planning (03:38) Burden of the Unasked Role (05:11) The Dangers of Safe Deposit Boxes (07:04) Healthcare Directives and Family Conflict (08:59) The Reality of Fiduciary Roles (15:17) “What do You Mean by Liability?” (32:33) Updating Documents and Avoiding DIY Pitfalls (39:16) Stephanie and Kevin's Wrap-Up (49:43)   Resources: DeFonteLaw.com De Fonte Law on YouTube     If you like what you've been hearing, we invite you to subscribe on your favorite platform and leave us a review. They explore how observing just one hand at showdown can give you a massive edge against your opponents—if you know how to interpret it correctly. Through five detailed hand examples, the duo breaks down how to spot key player tendencies and then exploit them ruthlessly in future hands. The show kicks off with a reminder that player behavior often has patterns—but not always—so while one showdown can reveal a lot, multiple showdowns are even better. That said, even one hand can provide enough insight to expose a player's habits. Hand #1 features a player who sizes up their preflop raise with strong hands, signaling a predictable pattern you can punish by tightening up against large raises and ramping up aggression against standard sizes. In Hand #2, Mike and Gary analyze a loose caller who shows down junky hands like K7 offsuit and J9 offsuit in spots where tighter ranges are mandatory. The adjustment? Raise bigger preflop and exploit their bloated, weak ranges postflop with aggressive continuation betting and double barreling. Hand #3 covers the infamous "donk bettor"—players who lead out inappropriately from the big blind on dry boards. These players are easy to read: when they check, they're often weak, giving you permission to go into bluff mode. Hand #4 introduces the "serial bluffer"—the kind of player who can't resist betting flop, turn, and river with air. The key exploit? Out of position check-raise your strong hands early to build the pot. In position, trap with hands that can take heat. Mike even references a complementary video on Lucid Poker's YouTube channel that expands on this exact concept, reinforcing the episode's focus on applying theory to real-world opponents. Finally, Hand #5 wraps things up with a look at passive players who fail to value bet thinly enough. These opponents can often be overfolded against when they show aggression and should be treated cautiously when you're considering a thin value bet. Packed with practical advice and counter-strategies, this poker strategy podcast episode is a must-listen for anyone who wants to move beyond generic advice and start making razor-sharp adjustments based on real player behavior. If you're serious about becoming more exploitative and maximizing EV, this is the poker strategy podcast episode that will help you get there.
