Warum tut man etwas, was einem offensichtlich schadet?

Myron Elkins had a very different life about 7 years ago. He was a fulltime welder in his hometown of Otsego Michigan. But thanks to the interest of Dave Cobb, he went from welder to fulltime musician real quick. Myron recorded his first album with Dave titled "Factories, Farms & Amphetamines", but not long after the record was released Dave stepped down from the record label, and the record label released Myron. But that didn't stop Myron from writing and recording a blistering sophomore album titled "Nostalgia for Sale" last month. Before heading off to Spain for some shows Myron was nice enough to stop by the show! Doc and Myron talk about playing in Spain, playing with Willie Nelson, getting started in music, being from Otsego, being a Detroit Lions fan, working with Dave Cobb, finding new places to record, working in Memphis, new albums and so much more! Changes in the pH of the stomach/gut can alter the absorption of Adderall. I discuss this in greater detail in this podcast episode. Cardiovascular monitoring is essential with the use of stimulants like Adderall. Pulse and heart rate are two important vital signs to assess.

Journey From Drug Addict To Judge. Her Amazing Story. Few stories are as transformative and inspiring as Mary Beth O'Connor's remarkable journey from childhood trauma to becoming a federal Administrative Law Judge. Her memoir, "From Junkie to Judge," offers a raw, unflinching look at survival, resilience, and the extraordinary power of personal transformation. She told her amazing story in a recent podcast interview on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast, available on their website and platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify and most major podcast platforms. The Roots of Addiction: Childhood Trauma Mary Beth's story begins with a painful childhood marked by profound abuse. Surviving sexual abuse from her stepfather, she found herself navigating a world of deep emotional pain and psychological wounds. Like many survivors of childhood trauma, she sought escape, first through alcohol at the tender age of 12, and then progressively through increasingly destructive substances. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. Her descent into addiction wasn't a sudden plunge but a gradual slide. Experimenting with alcohol led to marijuana, then pills, acid, and ultimately her most devastating companion: methamphetamine. At 16, she discovered meth, and by 17, she was injecting the drug that would consume the next 15 years of her life. Understanding Methamphetamine: More Than Just a Drug Methamphetamine is not just another substance, it's a synthetic stimulant with an extremely high addiction potential. Often called "crystal meth," "Tina," or "ice," this drug delivers an intense euphoria followed by devastating consequences. Its short-term effects include increased alertness and energy, but prolonged use can lead to severe health complications: paranoia, anxiety, heart irregularities, and potentially fatal outcomes. Journey From Drug Addict To Judge. Her Amazing Story. Read the supporting stories about this and much more from Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast in platforms like Medium, Newsbreak and Blogspot. The broader societal context of methamphetamine is equally alarming. Between 1992 and 2002, treatment admissions for meth abuse skyrocketed by over 500%, with more than 90% of admissions directly related to methamphetamine. By 2002, 13 states reported admission rates exceeding 100 per 100,000 people, a staggering statistic that underscores the drug's pervasive impact. A Path to Recovery: Unconventional and Empowered In 1994, she made the transformative decision to get clean, a commitment she has maintained for over 29 years. Her recovery wasn't just about abstaining from drugs but addressing the underlying trauma and anxiety that fueled her addiction. Listen to the interview as a free podcast on the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast website, also available on platforms like Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most major podcast outlets. Professional Renaissance: From Addiction to Law Perhaps most astonishingly, Mary Beth's recovery didn't just restore her life, it propelled her to extraordinary heights. Six years into her recovery, she attended Berkeley Law, worked in Silicon Valley, and later litigated class actions for the federal government. Journey From Drug Addict To Judge. Her Amazing Story. Follow the Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and podcast on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms. In 2014, she reached a pinnacle of professional achievement when she was appointed as a federal Administrative Law Judge, a position she held until her retirement in 2020. Her journey from "junkie to judge" is not just a personal triumph but a testament to human resilience. A Beacon of Hope: Sharing Her Story Through her award-winning memoir, Mary Beth has become a powerful voice in addiction recovery. Published by major retailers and featuring essays in prominent publications like The Wall Street Journal and Los Angeles Times, her work offers hope and practical guidance for those battling substance use disorders. Check out the show on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Newsbreak, Medium and most all social media platforms Her book goes beyond a simple narrative. It provides a roadmap for recovery, including guidelines and checklists for those seeking to overcome addiction. By sharing her unfiltered experience, she demystifies the recovery process and offers a compassionate, empowering perspective. In this episode, my guest is Dr. Terry Sejnowski, Ph.D., professor of computational neurobiology at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. He is world-renowned for exploring how our brain processes and stores information and, with that understanding, for developing tools that enable us to markedly improve our ability to learn all types of information and skills. We discuss how to learn most effectively in order to truly master a subject or skill. Dr. Sejnowski explains how to use AI tools to forage for new information, generate ideas, predict the future, and assist in analyzing health data and making health-related decisions. We also explore non-AI strategies to enhance learning and creativity, including how specific types of exercise can improve mitochondrial function and cognitive performance. Listeners will gain insights into how computational methods and AI are transforming our understanding of brain function, learning, and memory, as well as the emerging roles of these tools in addressing personal health and treating brain diseases such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Risk of Incident Psychosis and Mania With Prescription Amphetamines The American Journal of Psychiatry This case-control study used electronic health records to examine the impact of dose levels of prescription amphetamines on the risk of incident psychosis and mania with prescription amphetamines. Among 1,374 case subjects and 2,748 control subjects, the odds of psychosis and mania were increased for individuals with past-month prescription amphetamine use compared with no use. A dose-response relationship was observed; high doses of amphetamines (>30 mg dextroamphetamine equivalents) were associated with 5.28-fold increased odds of psychosis or mania. Past-month methylphenidate use was not associated with increased odds of psychosis or mania compared with no use. Caution should be exercised when prescribing high doses of amphetamines, with regular screening for symptoms of psychosis or mania.   Read this issue of the ASAM Weekly Subscribe to the ASAM Weekly Visit ASAM

He begins by introducing the built-in "caffeinate" command in macOS, providing a step-by-step guide on how to use it to keep your Mac awake. Mikah explains the limitations of "caffeinate," such as its inconsistent performance and lack of advanced features. He then introduces Amphetamine, a robust third-party application available for free on the Mac App Store. Mikah provides a detailed walkthrough of Amphetamine's features, including its ability to start sessions that prevent sleep based on various criteria: indefinitely, for a set time, while specific apps are running, or during downloads. He explores the app's customization options, such as quick settings, session defaults, triggers, and hotkeys, highlighting how these features offer more control and flexibility compared to the "caffeinate" command. In this episode of Hands-On Mac, Mikah Sargent tackles the challenge of preventing your Mac from falling asleep during critical tasks. Mikah discusses practical use cases for Amphetamine, like ensuring your Mac stays awake during long downloads, presentations, or video calls. The episode concludes with Mikah emphasizing the benefits of using Amphetamine to manage your Mac's sleep behavior more effectively and encouraging listeners to try the app for themselves. This week I talk about the medication shortages across the United States. Drugs used to treat ADHD, chronic pain, and other conditions have been in short supply lately for reasons unexplained. Different groups have blamed the shortage on one anther: the manufacturers blame the DEA, while the DEA blames manufacturers. But as usual, the problem comes down to a design issue.  For more about Assent's issues with the DEA, check out the Reason article, "DEA Shuts Down Factory even as Adderall Shortage Persists." Support the show

I'm so pleased to have Myron Elkins on the show for this week's episode. Myron is a super sweet and sincere human with a gentle and forthright presence, and we talk about his upbringing in rural Michigan as a self-admitted outlier, all the while devoting his free-time to honing his musical chops. After high school, Myron eventually landed a job as a welder when he was discovered after a seminal acoustic gig in Nashville, miraculously, by Dave Cobb, multiple-Grammy winning producer, who offered Myron a record deal and produced his debut album, Factories, Farms & Amphetamines. For a shy kid from small-town Michigan, it was a dream come true, but as you will come to know, also quite well deserved. I'm so happy to be able to share this truly unique and heart-warming story of a truly unique and introspective artist, Myron Elkins.
