You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?Deepti: The ability to rise after setbacks and turn challenges into opportunities.Billions of toothpaste tubes end up in landfills every year, creating an environmental burden that's hard to ignore. Recognizing this, Deepti Brambl, Founder of Kaylaan, developed an innovative alternative: toothpaste tablets. The eco-friendly product eliminates the need for plastic packaging while providing a healthier, more sustainable oral care solution.“Toothpaste tablets are not a new concept,” Deepti explained in today's episode, “but for me, it was important to come up with a solution that is not just plastic-friendly but also chemical-free. All of our products are natural, which ties back to how I was raised.”Kaylaan has also expanded into mouthwash tablets and patented bamboo electric toothbrushes, solidifying their commitment to green innovation. The toothbrushes, with recycled plastic handles to combat mold growth, are fully compostable striking the balance between sustainability and practicality. This eco-conscious ethos stems from Deepti's Nepalese heritage, where everything was reused. After moving to the U.S., she was struck by the plastic waste culture and wanted to create an alternative that redefined oral care. She started small, testing products on Etsy. Her toothpaste tablets stood out, quickly becoming a bestseller thanks to community feedback. The company's community-centered approach is evident in the evolution of their product line, including fluoride-based formulas, strawberry- and watermelon-flavored tablets for kids, and neem-based tablets. Customers' input continues to shape Kaylaan's innovations: “Whoever came to us with requests, we worked on it,” Deepti noted. In just a few years, Kaylaan has earned B Corp certification twice, reflecting its strong commitment to sustainability. Revenue from crowdfunding has been instrumental in scaling operations. Deepti highlighted how funds from a $45,000 raise helped move the company into a new facility, upgrade machines, and achieve compliance with FDA and GMP protocols.Currently, Kaylaan is raising capital through regulated investment crowdfunding on Honeycomb Credit. This presents an exciting opportunity for sustainability-minded investors to support Deepti's vision of redefining oral care.Deepti's journey exemplifies the power of mission-driven innovation. By tackling environmental challenges head-on, Kaylaan is demonstrating how purpose and profitability can coexist in harmony.tl;dr:Kaylaan develops eco-friendly toothpaste tablets to reduce waste and promote sustainable dental care.Deepti Brambl draws inspiration from her Nepalese heritage to drive innovation at Kaylaan.Crowdfunding on Honeycomb Credit has empowered Kaylaan to scale operations and achieve regulatory compliance.Customer feedback has shaped Kaylaan's diverse products, including fluoride-based and neem-flavored options.Deepti's resilience and passion for sustainability have propelled Kaylaan's mission to new heights. How to Develop Resilience As a SuperpowerDeepti's superpower is resilience—the ability to rise after setbacks and turn challenges into opportunities. She explained, “You fall as many times as possible, because that's where real creativity, real strength, and real learning happen.” Her perseverance fuels Kaylaan, as Deepti embraces obstacles as steppingstones for growth, strength, and creativity.Deepti vividly recounted the 10-hour ordeal of relocating a 5,000-pound tablet-press machine to a new manufacturing facility. After renting a forklift that couldn't manage the task, she worked with a team of local professionals to resolve the situation. Despite setbacks, her persistence resulted in more efficient production and significant quality improvements for Kaylaan's products.Tips to Develop Resilience:View challenges as opportunities for creativity and growth.Accept failure as part of learning and keep moving forward.Build strong community and business relationships for support during tough circumstances.Prioritize preparation upfront to avoid costly mistakes later.Embrace the idea that obstacles are a pathway to innovation and strength.By following Deepti's example and advice, you can make resilience a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileDeepti Brambl (she/her):Founder, KaylaanAbout Kaylaan: We make oral care better for people and the planet. You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?Darnell: Ability to transform overlooked and neglected things—whether it's a building, a community, or people—into valuable and thriving assets. When a retired Detroit Battalion Fire Chief sees an abandoned firehouse, they don't just see the past—they see the potential. That's exactly how Darnell Stewart approached the 126-year-old firehouse he has owned for decades, envisioning it as more than just a structure, but as a hub of life and community for Detroit.Darnell is bringing that vision to life by transforming the firehouse into a co-living community for first responders, traveling medical professionals, and other essential workers. He calls it The Firehouse Detroit. “We like the Firehouse Detroit to be a community hub for those individuals, whether or not they're visiting the city or here on training,” he explained during today's episode. This project is designed not just to honor the history of the old fire station but also to provide practical, modern functionality for a sector of workers who are vital to our communities. The vision integrates dormitory-style accommodation, training facilities, and spaces to relax and connect with others from similar fields. It's about creating a space where professionals who serve others can recharge and build camaraderie in an environment that feels like home.Turning this long-abandoned building into a thriving community hub hasn't been without challenges, however. Traditional financing wasn't an option for the project. “We've also been told that the firehouse is such a unique project that a lot of lenders don't feel comfortable,” Darnell shared. That's why he turned to the power of regulated crowdfunding through the Small Change platform.Crowdfunding has enabled him to turn obstacles into opportunities, inviting the community to be a part of his mission. “Small Change was an excellent option in order to allow other individuals to come onto the project,” he said.Darnell's efforts represent both a labor of love and a bold entrepreneurial move to preserve Detroit's history while addressing practical needs in the community. With the campaign underway, he's pushing forward, inviting all of us to share in the dream of transforming something abandoned into something vital. After decades of service to Detroit's Fire Department, Darnell isn't done giving back. Instead, he's just getting started.tl;dr:Darnell Stewart is turning a 126-year-old Detroit firehouse into a co-living hub for first responders. The Firehouse Detroit will include dormitory-style living, training areas, and spaces for community connection.Crowdfunding via Small Change is enabling community engagement and project funding despite traditional lending challenges.Darnell's superpower is seeing potential in neglected things and transforming them into valuable assets.Restoring properties has allowed Darnell to uplift neighborhoods, inspire change, and continue giving back to Detroit. How to Develop Seeing Potential As a SuperpowerDarnell's remarkable superpower is his ability to transform overlooked and neglected things—whether it's a building, a community, or people—into valuable and thriving assets. “Even being with the fire service for over 35 years, when things got messy, we were trained in order to keep things moving,” he explained. His belief that nothing is ever so broken that it can't be restored drives every project he takes on, from abandoned homes to forgotten firehouses.Darnell shared how he has spent decades restoring neglected residential properties in Detroit, a city that has seen both highs and lows. One project involved turning a particularly worn-down home into a “shining star” for its neighborhood. By investing in its restoration, Darnell not only transformed the property but also uplifted the entire street's morale, inspiring other residents to improve their neighboring homes. It's a small example of how his vision ignites bigger change.Tips for Developing This Superpower:Look beyond current flaws to identify the potential in people, projects, or places.Stay committed to restoration or improvement, even when faced with significant obstacles.Seek out role models and mentors who have overcome similar challenges to guide your efforts.Maintain a clear vision of the “end game” and trust that someone has solved similar problems before.By following Darnell's example and advice, you can make “seeing potential” a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. Episodenbild: public domain, Sara Guerrieri, USGS

Emphasizing affordability, he added, “The economics of these platforms need to work.” EquiDeFi's business model eliminates the need for issuers to rely on broker dealers, reducing costs and delivering the tools needed for compliance and investor onboarding. The platform also incorporates cutting-edge features like credit card payments, cryptocurrency options, and investor accreditation workflows. Remarkably, they've helped an 86-year-old investor navigate the process in under ten minutes. By ensuring fast, streamlined participation for investors of all backgrounds, Mohit aims to make equity crowdfunding accessible and convenient. What sets EquiDeFi apart is its modularity. Mohit clarified, “Issuers can decide how they market or whether to engage a broker dealer.” This flexibility allows startups to manage costs while leveraging features like compliance tools and Know Your Customer (KYC) processes. The vision doesn't stop at functionality. EquiDeFi is working on implementing artificial intelligence tools to help entrepreneurs preview and refine their offerings through mock environments. These innovations help issuers experiment with their campaigns before fully launching, offering insights critical to success. This episode highlighted the importance of inclusivity, simplicity, and education in transforming the investment process. Mohit and EquiDeFi are paving the way for entrepreneurs to reach their communities while enabling smoother, frictionless investing opportunities. If your company needs to raise up to $75 million or you're curious about alternative investment opportunities, EquiDeFi's innovative platform is worth exploring.tl;dr:Mohit Bhansali explained how EquiDeFi simplifies Regulation A crowdfunding for businesses raising up to $75 million.EquiDeFi provides modular tools for compliance, marketing flexibility, and integrating cryptocurrency payment options.A human-first, service-oriented approach distinguishes EquiDeFi while leveraging efficient technology like AI workflows.Mohit emphasized lessons from his immigrant upbringing and professional journey that shaped his commitment to service.Entrepreneurs are encouraged to explore inexpensive, flexible tools for raising capital through equity crowdfunding platforms. How to Develop Service As a SuperpowerMohit's superpower is service, grounded in humility, listening, and a commitment to community building. Reflecting on lessons from his father, Mohit shared, “Service is going to be important.” This ethos drives EquiDeFi's customer-first approach, where employees provide direct human support to investors and entrepreneurs alike. “We use AI to assist, but when escalations happen, we put a real voice behind it,” Mohit explained, emphasizing his dedication to both using technology and creating human connections for better engagement.Mohit's focus on service stems from personal experience. Growing up as a young immigrant in Brooklyn, his father—a practicing surgeon at 81—taught him the importance of building trust and community as a foundation for success. At EquiDeFi, Mohit hires former musicians, citing their teamwork and fan engagement skills over traditional finance experience. “They bring a different perspective,” Mohit noted, highlighting his drive to create a culture that prioritizes collaboration.Tips for Developing the Superpower:Practice Humility: Approach every situation willing to learn from others, regardless of your role or credentials.Actively Listen: Take time to deeply understand customers' and colleagues' needs before offering solutions.Build Trust: Prioritize relationships that foster genuine support and service within your community or organization.Be Accessible: Use technology for efficiency but provide human interaction for escalations or personalized support.Value Diversity: Embrace nontraditional perspectives by hiring individuals with unique life experiences.By following Mohit's example and advice, you can make service a skill. Thousands of Canadians have launched GoFundMe campaigns this year, asking for help with everyday expenses. But, as more of us struggle with the cost of living, is crowdfunding the best way to keep up? Also, just how much does it cost small towns to maintain giant roadside attractions? And we ask: what does the rise of Elon Musk, the world's first trillionaire, say about capitalism in the 21st century? Paul Haavardsrud speaks to Quinn Slobodian, co-author of Muskism: A Guide for the Perplexed.

Despite accounting for nearly half of all new businesses in the U.S., women founders receive only 2% of total venture capital funding. Molly Huyck, Founder and CEO of AeQuitas Invest, realized the dire need for change and has built an innovative solution: a funding platform exclusively for women entrepreneurs.Molly's journey toward launching AeQuitas Invest began at PayPal, where she spent over 20 years building a career informed by innovation and a commitment to creating equal opportunities. Motivated by her global mentorship experience with women entrepreneurs in partnership with the Cherie Blair Foundation, Molly learned of a staggering $5 trillion gap in global GDP caused by inequities in access to capital for women. This eye-opening realization fueled her passion to address the challenge.“When in looking at other crowdfunding platforms, literally, on average, four out of 66 raises that are going on at any one time are women founders,” Molly explained. “It doesn't make sense to me personally, and it doesn't make sense economically.”AeQuitas Invest is more than a simple platform—it's an ecosystem designed to support women founders beyond funding. Molly and her team take a hands-on approach, creating cohorts of founders to foster collaboration and shared learning. The platform also offers access to marketing, legal, and accounting experts, helping women founders navigate challenges at just the right time.“Women operate differently. Women lead differently,” Molly said. “Studies show they typically have a return of $0.78 per dollar invested in them versus men, who return only $0.31 per dollar. That's why I created AeQuitas Invest—to connect women founders with investors and close the gap.”Currently, the platform has several promising campaigns in its pipeline, including Blockchain Homes, which is already live. By offering regulated crowdfunding opportunities, AeQuitas Invest empowers investors to support women-led businesses and drive meaningful change.Molly's story and AeQuitas Invest demonstrate the power of innovation and collective support to address inequities for women entrepreneurs. This episode highlights how platforms like AeQuitas can be game changers for gender equality in entrepreneurship.tl;dr:Women-led businesses receive just 2% of VC funding, but AeQuitas Invest aims to change that.Founder Molly Huyck built AeQuitas Invest to provide a crowdfunding platform just for women founders. The platform creates a community with hands-on support to help women succeed in fundraising.Molly shares how her personal journey and experience inspired her commitment to gender equality.Today's episode highlights how empowering women entrepreneurs creates meaningful impact for investors and society. How to Develop Empowering Others As a SuperpowerMolly's superpower lies in empowering others, especially women, to rise up and succeed. Reflecting on her journey, she explained, “I take a bet on others and encourage them to be their best selves, that I believe in them, that I trust them.” Molly's approach is rooted in creating opportunities for others to thrive, fostering confidence, and supporting people to achieve their full potential.Molly described hiring an executive chef for the women's sports bar she opened. The candidate had only applied for the sous chef position, doubting her ability to lead. Molly recognized her potential and took a chance on her. With Molly's encouragement, the new chef rose to meet the challenge and excelled in her role. This example perfectly illustrates Molly's commitment to empowering others by believing in their abilities and investing in their growth.Tips for Developing this Superpower:Take chances on others by recognizing their potential, even if they doubt themselves.Offer encouragement and affirmation to help people overcome self-doubt and unlock their confidence.Connect with diverse communities and create inclusive environments that support mutual growth.Build a supportive network of peers who can share experiences and provide feedback.By following Molly's example and advice, you can make empowering others a skill. The Fate roleplaying game line, once the flagship system for Evil Hat Productions, may be nearing its end, highlighted by the release of the next game, Umdaar, as a PDF-only product. Since the record-breaking Fate Core crowdfunding campaign in 2013, the line has steadily declined to less than 5% of the company’s sales, replaced by Blades in the Dark and Monster of the Week as Evil Hat’s main sellers. Fate originated around 2000 as a hack of the Fudge RPG, developed by Evil Hat co-founders Fred Hicks and Rob Donoghue, who aimed for a system that modeled fiction rather than physics. Hicks sees the release of Umdaar as an experiment to determine Fate’s future in the 2020s, acknowledging its significant impact as a game from the previous decade. John Blanche, the legendary illustrator whose art defined the “grimdark” aesthetic of the Warhammer 40,000 setting, has died. Blanche was best known for iconic works, including his depiction of the Emperor on the Golden Throne, which he intended to show as a ceremonial facade for pilgrims rather than the “real” Emperor. He retired from Games Workshop in 2023 after an association beginning in the seventies, leaving behind an enormous legacy. Tributes from fans and writers confirmed his profound influence, stating that his art was the reason many became involved in Warhammer 40,000 and that he defined an entire sub-genre of SFF. TTRPG crowdfunding surged in Q1 2026, with the number of successful campaigns that raised $100,000 or more growing by 35% year-over-year. The 21 campaigns reaching this milestone collectively generated an estimated $8,058,431, about 25% more than Q1 2025. The period featured a major success with Pumpkin Spice -A Magical Cozy RPG, which reached over $1.5 million, and also saw the launch of highly anticipated projects like Numenera: The Amber Archive and Blades ’68. Notably, only six of the featured games used Fifth Edition mechanics, and Gates of Krystalia became the highest-funded TTRPG project to date whose creator admitted to using AI-generated images in the book. The Book of Unnumbered Worlds is a new Kickstarter campaign from Kevin Crawford of Sine Nomine Publishing known for the “Without Number” series. This project is a system-neutral sourcebook designed to aid Game Masters (GMs) in building fantasy worlds or fleshing out existing settings. It features organized frameworks and step-by-step procedures with tags and tables for creating elements like maps, nations, societies, and monsters, and does not reprint material from previous “Without Number” books. In a notable statement, the campaign explicitly guarantees that “All art, writing, and design in this book is entirely human-created and does not involve the use of AI”. #faterpg #johnblanche #crowdfunding #withoutnumber Rascal News: https://www.rascal.news/with-the-release-of-umdaar-we-might-be-at-the-end-of-fate/ Book of Unnumbered Worlds Kickstarter: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sinenomineinc/the-book-of-unnumbered-worlds Cyberpunk RED: Ready-to-Run Essentials Bundle: $33 https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/rEOrdG Free League BundleRPG Collection: $27.50 https://humblebundleinc.sjv.io/zzrGdm The Book of Unnumbered Worlds: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sinenomineinc/the-book-of-unnumbered-worlds Demonic Grimoire on Backkit: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/exalted-funeral/old-school-essentials-demonic-grimoire Hellblaster: Against the Cyberfiend: https://www.backerkit.com/c/projects/bloodstar-productions/hellblaster-against-the-cyberfiends Warmachine on MyMiniFactory: https://mmf.io/upturned Mantic Companion App: https://companion.manticgames.com/ Use our Referral code: MCTXEE Support Us by Shopping on DTRPG (afilliate link): https://www.drivethrurpg.com?affiliate_id=2081746 Matt’s DriveThruRPG Publications: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/browse.php?author=Matthew%20Robinson https://substack.com/@matthewrobinson3 Chris on social media: https://hyvemynd.itch.io/ Jeremy's Links: http://www.abusecartoons.com/ http://www.rcharvey.com Support Us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/upturnedtable Give us a tip on our livestream: https://streamlabs.com/upturnedtabletop/tip Donate or give us a tip on Paypal: https://www.paypal.com/ncp/payment/2754JZFW2QZU4 Intro song is “Chips” by KokoroNoMe https://kokoronome.bandcamp.com/

Anekdotisch Evident.

You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?Pāj: I know how to see something and see all the intricacies of what it'll take for me to get there.Storytelling has the power to inspire change, and filmmaker A. Pāj Turner is proving just that. Driven by his own experiences and a desire to uplift underserved communities, Pāj is crafting a cinematic world that goes beyond entertainment. His film project, The Emancipation of Limits, tells a powerful, multifaceted story deeply rooted in personal experience. The idea for the project originated during the pandemic, when Pāj wrote a novel of the same title in just four months. He described the film as an evolution of his book that interweaves themes of resilience, crime, and hope. With a military background spanning 28 years, Pāj explained that the protagonist's story reflects elements of his own life, particularly his commitment to community building and his desire to recreate Black Wall Street.“I wanted to create something that had more of a story than just one person getting rich,” Pāj shared. “This character gives his profits to his community to rebuild, to create jobs and opportunity—ultimately to restore Black Wall Street.”What started as a book evolved into a concept film after a trailer of the novel garnered over 400,000 views on Facebook. Encouraged by this response, Pāj learned screenwriting, took acting classes, and collaborated with other creatives to bring his vision to life. This story is not only compelling but timely. Through regulated crowdfunding, Pāj has chosen to retain ownership of his intellectual property while creating opportunities for the community to directly invest in and benefit from the project. “Crowdfunding is a great way to keep hold of your intellectual property while also benefiting the people you aim to serve,” he explained. With The Emancipation of Limits, Pāj combines his creativity, military precision, and unwavering commitment to purpose. He's made it possible for anyone to join his journey by investing in the film via a crowdfunding platform.By supporting this project, investors have the unique opportunity to not only fund a meaningful artistic endeavor but also to be part of a movement that amplifies historically underrepresented perspectives and builds cultural and economic momentum.tl;dr:Military veteran A. Pāj Turner shares his journey from service to filmmaker, blending strategy and creativity. His film, The Emancipation of Limits, explores themes of crime, community, and rebuilding Black Wall Street.Pāj is raising funds via regulated crowdfunding on CineBlock Films to retain ownership and empower supporters.Drawing from personal experiences, the film authentically reflects his life and military accomplishments.Pāj credits his success to “strategic vision” and encourages pursuing one's purpose with full commitment. How to Develop Strategic Vision As a SuperpowerPāj's military career provided him with a keen ability to see the path to success clearly. He described his superpower as “strategic vision,” an innate capability to identify goals and map out precise steps to achieve them. “I know how to see something and see all the intricacies of what it'll take for me to get there,” he explained. Combined with his creativity, this enables him to transform ideas into reality, as he demonstrated with his ongoing film project, The Emancipation of Limits. For Pāj, strategic vision is intertwined with a deep sense of purpose.Pāj recounted his time in Belize, where he worked to support the Belizean forces in drug interdiction operations. During one mission, his team coordinated efforts to intercept a drug boat under the cover of darkness, based entirely on strategic intelligence received from the Pentagon. Though Pāj, as a U.S. service member, could not directly engage in the local Belizean tactics, his role in planning and enabling the mission informed the palpable sense of strategy depicted in his film, which prominently features elements of this real experience.Tips for Developing This Superpower:Discover Your Purpose: Reflect on your passions and align your actions with your broader life goals.Plan with Clarity: Write down goals and systematically outline steps to accomplish them.Combine Action with Adaptability: Once you commit, pursue your vision without hesitation, but stay flexible in execution.Draw from Experience: Use personal stories and professional expertise as inspiration for your creative endeavors.Commit Fully: Pāj advises, “You have to be 110% in it, or it's not going to come out like you expect.”By following Pāj's example and advice, you can make strategic vision a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You do you!Guest ProfileA. Pāj Turner (he/him):CEO, A. Pāj Turnervision LLCAbout A. Pāj Turnervision LLC: A. Today she's back, this time in the guest chair, with something considerably bigger on the horizon. Alex is the Science Editor of Ocean Geographic Magazine, founder of ocean conservation company Blue Ring, an Explorers Club Fellow, a professional violinist, and now co-host and producer of Sea Americas — a cinematic expedition documentary series following the world's largest all-female dive team as they document the most threatened marine sanctuaries across the Americas. In this conversation, Andrew and Dr. Frances Farabaugh sit down with Alex to talk about what it means to dive with purpose in a moment of accelerating loss — from the functionally extinct reef-building corals of the Florida Keys, to the surprisingly intact reefs of Cuba, to the political headwinds threatening the protected waters these stories depend on. They also dig into the Sea Americas Seed & Spark crowdfunding campaign, the conservation model behind Blue Ring, and what it actually feels like to cry underwater while trying to document a dying reef. In this episode of the Superpowers for Good show, HaChi Yu, Director of Jivamukti Yoga® New York, shared her passion for fostering deep connections—not just through yoga practice but through a broader vision of community and inclusivity.“Yoga actually means union or to yoke, which means to create a connection,” HaChi explained. She described Jivamukti as grounded in the Sanskrit concepts of “Jeeva,” meaning soul, and “Mukti,” meaning liberation. “We are all trying to reconnect to our true potential and our true nature, which we believe is goodness,” she said.HaChi's mission extends beyond the physical practice of yoga. The studio serves as a hub for building relationships, learning, and healing. Jivamukti Yoga®, founded in 1984 in New York City, emphasizes a philosophy of interconnection: to oneself, to others, and to the earth. After navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to the closure of her Los Angeles studio, HaChi returned to New York and opened a small studio in Chinatown. Now, she is expanding to a larger 5,000-square-foot flagship location in Brooklyn. HaChi described the new space as one that will “allow us to host multiple studios for meditation, yoga classes, readings, and events simultaneously.”To bring this vision to life, HaChi is raising funds via a regulated investment crowdfunding campaign on Honeycomb Credit. She views the campaign as an extension of her yoga philosophy. “The community is not separate from the business,” she noted, emphasizing the collective nature of sustaining inclusive wellness spaces.Supporters can join the campaign by visiting s4g.biz/jiva or scanning the QR code featured during the episode. Crowdfunding allows people to contribute to meaningful projects with even modest investments, aligning with HaChi's vision of accessible and inclusive participation.Jivamukti Yoga® is more than a physical practice. It's a reminder of shared responsibility and the power of community. Supporting this expansion is an investment not only in yoga but in a more connected and compassionate world.tl;dr:Jivamukti Yoga® emphasizes connection as the foundation for personal and community transformation.Founder Sharon Gannon and David Leif launched Jivamukti in NYC, fostering a yoga lifestyle since 1984.After COVID closed her LA studio, HaChi reopened in NYC and is now expanding to Brooklyn.HaChi is using Honeycomb Credit crowdfunding to raise capital, embracing her community-first philosophy.HaChi identifies connection as her superpower, teaching others to forge meaningful bonds across differences. How to Develop Connection As a SuperpowerHaChi believes her superpower is connection, a skill tied directly to her yoga practice. “Yoga means to link, it means to connect,” she explained, adding that her ability to connect with others transcends physical yoga. She focuses on fostering connections between people, cultures, nature, and shared human experiences. Her goal isn't to highlight individual differences but to celebrate similarities, saying, “What makes us the same? Not what makes us different.” This focus allows her community to thrive and underscores her belief that connection is the foundation of wellness.Years before transitioning into yoga, HaChi was a professional ballerina. During one of her retirement performances, she panicked moments before stepping on stage in stilts. Overwhelmed with fear, she voiced her hesitation to the stage manager. When her director noticed her struggle, he addressed the audience directly, bringing transparency to the challenge she faced. This act of connection—being seen and supported—helped her proceed with confidence. The incident reinforced HaChi's belief in the power of connection to overcome fear and foster growth.Tips for Developing the Superpower of Connection:Listen Deeply: Focus on what's behind a person's words with empathy and attention.Foster Inclusivity: Look for common ground to connect across differences.Be Vulnerable: Ask for help when needed—it builds mutual trust and understanding.Cultivate Awareness: Pause to reflect on shared humanity before responding.By following HaChi's example and advice, you can make connection a skill. Support Night Clerk Radio on Patreon Started as an IndieGoGo campaign in 2020, Nobody Here: The Story of Vaporwave, is an ambitious attempt to document and capture ephemeral history of vaporwave from its rise around 2010 to the early 2020s. After numerous production delays due to COVID, growing scope, and other production factors it's finally out and available for everyone to see. We get into the documentary, crowd-funded documentaries in general, and the general difficulty in tackling this subject. The Future of Everything presented by Stanford Engineering

In the dotcom era, communication professor Angèle Christin embedded herself in newsrooms, where she witnessed how audience metrics tilted journalism toward viral content over in-depth reporting. Christin now researches the influencer economy and how content creators monetize their production by any of three means – brand sponsorships, engagement-based payments from social media platforms, and direct-to-audience subscriptions, donations, or sales. She says this engagement-based ecosystem steers communication toward what captures attention, not always what best informs. To improve our reeling national dialogue, we must first change the financial model of social media content, Christin tells host Russ Altman on this episode of Stanford Engineering's The Future of Everything podcast. Have a question for Russ? Send it our way in writing or via voice memo, and it might be featured on an upcoming episode. A decade ago, he was instrumental in the passage of the JOBS Act, including the provisions that made Regulation Crowdfunding possible. In this episode, the discussion centered around the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities entrepreneurs face when raising capital through this regulated process.Woodie reflected on his journey advocating for Regulation Crowdfunding, beginning with a bold idea and leading to a historic signing ceremony at the White House. “When we started walking the halls of Congress…we kept on hearing one thing: you guys are never going to pull this off,” Woodie shared. Yet, through relentless focus and bipartisan collaboration, he and his team successfully convinced lawmakers that Regulation Crowdfunding could create jobs and significantly enhance access to capital. The experience of being at the signing of the JOBS Act was described by Woodie as surreal—a moment he'll never forget. “I remember sitting on the lawn of the White House…watching the president come out, talking about how, quote-unquote, this is a game changer. And we're pinching ourselves, going, I can't believe we pulled this off.” For entrepreneurs today, that game-changing legislation has opened new doors, enabling startups to raise funds directly from their communities. However, Woodie emphasized that success doesn't end with raising capital; compliance and communication with investors are equally crucial. He noted that many companies fail to meet the SEC's annual reporting requirements, which can harm both their reputations and future fundraising efforts. To address this, Woodie and his team developed carfiling.com—a tool designed to simplify annual compliance filings for entrepreneurs using Regulation Crowdfunding. For startup founders leveraging Regulation Crowdfunding, Woodie's story serves as both an inspiration and a practical guide. He transformed skepticism into groundbreaking legislation and continues to innovate within the space. Woodie believes that Regulation Crowdfunding is not just about democratizing capital—it's about fostering trust and accountability between entrepreneurs and their communities.tl;dr:Sherwood (Woodie) Neiss explained his journey advocating for the JOBS Act and Regulation Crowdfunding. He described the historic White House signing ceremony and bipartisan efforts behind the legislation.Woodie emphasized the importance of compliance for companies raising capital via Regulation Crowdfunding. He introduced carfiling.com, a tool designed to simplify annual reporting for entrepreneurs.Woodie highlighted his superpower—connecting—and shared personal insights on fostering human relationships. How to Develop Connecting As a SuperpowerWoodie described his superpower as “connecting,” and he shared a heartfelt, personal perspective on what that means. “When my son was three…he said, ‘I'm connecting to your love battery.'” For Woodie, connection isn't just about relationships; it's an energy that powers humanity. “We as humans rely on other humans…to recharge us in ways that bring validation to who we are.” Professional and personal connections—whether partnering with colleagues or recharging through family interactions—drive his purpose and success.Woodie's son Max provided the inspiration for the children's book The Love Battery, a metaphor on human connection. Max used to throw his legs over Woodie's belly at bedtime and explained, “I'm connecting to your love battery.” This heartfelt moment shaped Woodie's understanding of how vital connection is for sustaining energy, optimism, and creativity. The concept of the “love battery” now serves as a metaphor both for Woodie's personal life and his work, inspiring communities and encouraging collaboration.Tips for Developing This SuperpowerBe Present: Focus on where you are now, rather than always planning ahead.Acknowledge Others: Express gratitude to people around you through small, meaningful gestures.Balance Priorities: Recognize the importance of personal, professional, and health-related priorities equally.Encourage Collaboration: Build relationships that foster purpose and excitement in your work.By following Woodie's example and advice, you can make connecting a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses. You can also see it on YouTube.Devin: What is your superpower?Mark: Ability to see problems as opportunities for improvement and innovation. When the electricity goes out, having reliable backup power can make all the difference. Imagine a generator so quiet and lightweight that it can be placed right next to your CPAP machine or refrigerator in your bedroom. This is exactly what Mark Collins, CEO of Emission Free Generators Inc, has achieved with the Zen H2 Generator—a groundbreaking innovation in emission-free energy. The generator works in tandem with proprietary energy cartridges filled with a unique, powdered material. When water is added, the cartridge produces just the right amount of hydrogen, which is immediately converted into electricity. Mark explained, “You only create the amount of electricity that you need to power that single device. It's a very, very efficient way of supplying electricity to specific objects.”Unlike traditional generators, which are noisy, smelly, and potentially dangerous due to emissions and exhaust, the Zen H2 is quiet, safe, and environmentally friendly. The system operates without high-pressure hydrogen storage or cables snaking across your home. “You can put this right in the bedroom next to the CPAP machine, safely, quietly operating,” Mark explained in today's episode. This innovation is especially valuable for people relying on medical devices or those interested in sustainable energy solutions. Beyond emergency backup at home, the generator also holds promise for areas in the developing world where access to electricity is limited.Mark and his team are raising capital via Wefunder to bring the Zen H2 Generator into full-scale production. Crowdfunding was a natural choice for the company; it provided a way to test their product concept in the market and connect with stakeholders. “We've had over 400 investors… It's taught us a lot about what people want, their comments, their needs,” Mark said.Investors also have the opportunity to earn early access to the generator, making this campaign not just an investment in clean technology, but one in practical innovation that transforms lives. The Zen H2 Generator has the power to change how we think about electricity both at home and around the world. With emission-free energy production that's safe and easy to use, Mark's invention could make noisy, traditional generators obsolete.tl;dr:Mark Collins introduces Zen H2, a quiet, emission-free hydrogen-powered generator for emergency backup at home. The generator works with innovative cartridges producing hydrogen on demand without high-pressure storage.Mark discusses his decades of entrepreneurial experience and successful, purpose-driven innovations. The company is crowdfunding to scale production, connecting with over 400 WeFunder investors.Mark emphasizes persistence and purpose as the driving forces behind solving big, global problems. How to Develop Relentless Problem-Solving As a SuperpowerMark's superpower is his ability to see problems as opportunities for improvement and innovation. He shared in today's episode, “The main thing that keeps me really buoyant… is just looking at a problem and saying, there has to be a better way.” This passion drives his determination to create solutions that benefit not just a few, but entire communities. After selling a company he had built over 11 years, Mark found himself at odds without purpose. He described being in a “heavy funk” during his brief retirement, struggling to find fulfillment. He rechanneled this energy into new opportunities by diving back into his natural gift for problem-solving. This led to the initial development of what would become the Zen H2 Generator, an invention focused on solving real-world challenges with clean, reliable power.Tips for Developing Relentless Problem-Solving:Start by questioning the status quo: If something isn't working well, ask how it could be improved.Simplify your ideas: Break down a challenge into actionable, practical steps for innovation.Surround yourself with a team that complements your strengths and moves your ideas forward.Stay persistent and adaptable dust yourself off after setbacks and tackle problems from new angles.Focus on scalable solutions that make a broad impact, not only for yourself but for others.By following Mark's example and advice, you can make relentless problem-solving a skill. With practice and effort, you could make it a superpower that enables you to do more good in the world.Remember, however, that research into success suggests that building on your own superpowers is more important than creating new ones or overcoming weaknesses.
