189 (This episode goes hand in hand with episode 190) Being a highly sensitive person obviously means we are more sensitive than others. This has real ramifications in our love lives— both wonderful and challenging. Listen in to this VERY revised (almost totally new) version of an older topic, where you will learn that, luckily, you can support your sensitive self in ways that amplify the best parts of your sensitivity, and make the challenges of it so much easier. . . .and how this will involve caretaking your sensitive Mind Body Heart System, (starting with your nervous system) MORE deeply and consistently than non-HSPs (like it or not!).In other words, even if you resist the idea, the truth is, in order to have an intimate relationship (and life) that feels deeply satisfying, nourishing, and fulfilling as an HSP, you need to attend more to your emotional well-being and nervous system regulation than non-HSPs. In this episode you will hear my own story around this, and how, as I've accepted this, and learned how to caretake my sensitive nervous system (and sensitive mind, body, heart, and emotions), I've fallen in love with doing it. AND how doing so changed EVERYTHING for the better forever in my love life. This can be true for you, too. You'll also learn:why love and marriage can be so hard as HSP without truly caretaking your sensitive system in the right wayswhy accepting your higher need for emotional caretaking can be difficult, and why it's more than worth it to do sothe 4 simple but essential foundational steps to get started with right away to be able to truly caretake your sensitive systemAnd the best way to truly regulate the most foundational aspect of your emotional well-being (your nervous system) so you can always be able to guide yourself back to that calm, steady, connected-to-your-heart-and-wisdom place from which you'll best relate to your significant other in ways that lead to the deepest connection, love, and collaboration, and the most fulfilling intimacy. Without this emotional tending, the kind of relationship you most want – full of love, lightheartedness, attraction, effective and connecting communication, and mutual supportiveness – is likely to remain elusive. But with it? You set the stage for what can feel like magic to happen in your relationship. Dive in to begin.SHOW NOTES:Take the Dysregulation quiz in the next episode (190) via podcast (it's live!), or here in written format.Learn all about Foundations of Emotional Well-Being Course; The Root Of A Better Relationship here. There's a missing link in our mental health routines, and it has everything to do with our HRV (heart rate variability) and the emotional alignment of our mind and heart. In this week's quickie, we're diving into the science of heart coherence — a powerful physiological state that can regulate your nervous system, reduce stress, and help you reconnect to your emotional intuition. This isn't just a woo-woo idea… it's backed by decades of research from the HeartMath Institute, and it shifted how I think about emotional wellness after I tried it in a recent therapy session.Tune in as I recount my experience with HeartMath, a heart rate variability (HRV) tool that measures your emotional state and alignment in real time. We cover how heart-brain coherence works, how it improves emotional resilience, and why regenerative feelings like gratitude, compassion, and connection are more effective than logic or deep breathing alone.Listen to learn about:What heart coherence really means and why it optimizes our mental and physical healthThe science behind HeartMath and HRV (Heart Rate Variability)How emotions like gratitude and humour can instantly improve your physiological coherenceWhy common coping strategies (like walking or box breathing) might not lead to coherence on their ownThe role your heart plays in decision-making, emotional regulation, and stressHow to practice heart-focused breathing and coherence-building techniquesWhether you're feeling burnt out, anxious, disconnected, or out of sync, this one's for you.

Send us a textIn this insightful and empowering episode of the Self Reflection Podcast, host Lira Ndifon unveils the transformative power of looking inward, presenting five compelling reasons why self-reflection is not just beneficial, but absolutely essential for navigating life's complexities and cultivating inner peace. Lira gently guides listeners through the profound impact of taking the time to truly connect with themselves, emphasizing that this practice forms the bedrock of self-understanding, emotional well-being, and purposeful living.Lira's first key reason highlights the fundamental act of building a relationship with oneself. She eloquently explains how self-reflection allows us to become our own friend, fostering kindness, gentleness, and love that we often readily extend to others but neglect to offer ourselves. By cultivating this internal connection, we begin to treat ourselves with the same empathy and compassion we offer loved ones, nurturing a stronger and more supportive inner dialogue. The second crucial benefit Lira explores is the ability to understand our core values and principles. Self-reflection acts as a compass, guiding us to recognize what truly aligns with our authentic selves and what creates dissonance. Lira shares a personal insight into how being out of alignment can manifest in mental challenges, underscoring the importance of self-reflection in bringing us back to our center and fostering a deeper connection with our inner truth.Moving further, Lira illuminates the power of self-reflection in fostering awareness, which in turn cultivates clarity. In today's overwhelming world, bombarded by external stimuli, taking the time for introspection allows us to discern what truly resonates with us amidst the noise. This awareness provides the clarity needed to make conscious choices, tweak aspects of our lives, and move forward with intention and purpose. The fourth transformative aspect of self-reflection, as Lira explains, is its ability to align us with our true path or purpose. By looking inward, we can tap into what truly feeds our soul, what ignites our passion, and what makes us eager to embrace each day. Self-reflection creates a space to discover what brings us lasting fulfillment and what we are meant to contribute to the world, even on days when motivation wanes. Finally, Lira beautifully articulates how self-reflection cultivates unconditional self-love. By honestly examining our imperfections and areas for growth, we learn to embrace our whole selves, flaws and all. Self-reflection fosters empathy, compassion, and acceptance, reminding us of our shared humanity and the incredible journey we are navigating. In this moment, Lira encourages listeners to embrace the practice of self-reflection as a powerful pathway to a deeper, more loving relationship with themselves.Support the showCall to Action: Engage with the Self-Reflection Podcast community! This week's episode of Leadership is Feminine is a little different. Kris Plachy offers a compelling call to action for team members everywhere to take ownership of their well-being and personal power in the workplace. Rather than placing full trust in employers to manage our financial, mental, or emotional health, Kris invites listeners to reexamine what it means to be self-led, informed, and intentional about their lives and careers. This episode is a powerful reminder that relying solely on an employer for your sense of security can be a risky trade. Kris shares her own journey—from getting her first job at 14—to explore the historical and cultural shifts that shaped the modern workplace. She breaks down why the system evolved the way it did and challenges the long-standing belief that employers should be the primary caretakers of their people's lives outside of work. Kris advocates for reclaiming agency and reminds us, “You were born as this capable human who is infinitely more powerful than she or he may believe... and I just want to invite you to consider that there might be another way to think about who you are, and how you accept personal responsibility for the results you get in your life.” Through honest reflection and practical insight, she urges listeners to invest in their own financial, mental, and emotional literacy. It's not about rejecting work—it's about refusing to outsource your power. If you're ready to shift from dependency to empowerment, this episode offers the mindset reset you didn't know you needed. Tune in and discover what it means to truly lead yourself first. Key Takeaways From This Episode Personal Agency in Employment: Importance of not placing well-being in the hands of an employer. Evolution of Employment Benefits: Critique of societal beliefs about employer responsibilities. Drawing from the insightful article by J. David Cresswell, "Learning to Accept Discomfort Could Help You Thrive," published in Scientific American, Margaret explores the transformative power of embracing discomfort as a pathway to achieving equanimity. In a world that often feels chaotic and beyond our control, this episode serves as a timely reminder that finding balance and peace is not only possible but essential for personal growth. Margaret begins by sharing an anecdote highlighting an extraordinary case where an individual faced a painful dental procedure without anesthesia, instead relying on mindfulness and equanimity to transform his experience. This story sets the stage for a deeper conversation about the benefits of turning toward our discomforts rather than shying away from them. She delves into studies that reveal how accepting negative emotions can lead to greater satisfaction and less anxiety. These findings resonate with the heart of the Dharma, illustrating that when we cultivate a mental attitude of acceptance, we not only improve our personal well-being but also enhance our interactions with others. Join Margaret on this reflective journey as she shares valuable tools and practices to help listeners develop equanimity in the face of life's inevitable challenges.
