Jesse Campbell grew up in New Zealand, and works full time as an accountant on the Gold Coast while juggling Marathon training himself, coaching and Content Creation. He ran his first marathon in Queenstown in November 2024 in 3:28 18 months later he ran 2:44 in Osaka. That is 45 minutes off a marathon in under two years, done around a nine to five.In this episode Jesse and I discuss why he started running, which had nothing to do with racing and everything to do with being lost after he stopped playing basketball. He explains what a day actually looks like at 4:30am, seven runs a week fitted around a full working day, and why that stopped feeling like discipline a long time ago. We get into the race he blew up in after Osaka and his honest read on why it went wrong. Most of it lands wider than running though. What putting a goal out in public actually does to you. How he handles comparison when everyone is posting their times. And what he would say to someone who looks at the people ahead of them and decides there is no point starting, which is that if you stick at anything you can progress at it, and that has carried into the rest of his life further than the running has. Your audience doesn't have a short attention span. They have a short tolerance for boring sh*t. While the entire content industry is trying to make everything shorter, faster and louder to win the first two seconds, people are still binge-watching eight episodes of a Netflix show in one weekend. So maybe attention isn't disappearing. Maybe people are simply becoming much more selective about what deserves it. In this episode, I'm breaking down why I no longer believe personal brands should optimize their content around supposedly fried attention spans — and what I think the smarter opportunity is instead. We'll talk about: - why your audience has become world-class at filtering content - why shorter and faster doesn't automatically mean more interesting - what Netflix understands about attention that most personal brands don't - why I'd rather create content people intentionally come back to than constantly fight for another two seconds - how to start thinking like a producer instead of just another content creator - and why I believe Brand Shows are the next evolution of Personal Brand Content Because the goal isn't just getting someone to stop scrolling once. It's creating a recognizable world, premise and story they choose to return to.

What makes a voiceover performance truly connect with an audience? In this VO BOSS conversation, Jim Meskimen and Anne Ganguzza talk about what happens when voice actors stop simply reading the words and start communicating the thought behind them. Jim shares insights from his extensive career in voiceover, acting, improv, impressions, animation, audiobooks, television, film, and more. They discuss why the script is a path rather than a set of instructions, how preparation creates freedom, why improv makes you a stronger performer, and what it really means to be directable. The conversation also explores auditions, rejection, stage fright, building confidence, creating authentic content, and continuing to grow as a performer throughout your career. In this episode, you'll learn: Why the words are only part of the performance How to bring your own point of view to a script Why preparation can actually make you more spontaneous How improv strengthens voiceover skills What directors really mean when they ask you to be "directable" How to approach auditions and rejection Why communication has no finish line How Jim has continued to reinvent himself throughout his career Chapters: 00:00 – Meet Jim Meskimen: A Career Built on Versatility 07:20 – Overcoming Stage Fright and Building Confidence 11:00 – How Improv Strengthens Voiceover Performance 13:30 – Authenticity, Impressions, and Bringing Yourself to the Work 15:30 – Why Voice Actors Shouldn't Become Servants to the Words 21:30 – What Unexpected Moments on Set Can Teach an Actor 25:00 – Directability, Flexibility, and Creative Collaboration 27:30 – Auditions, Rejection, and Recognizing the Small Wins 33:00 – Reinvention and Creating a Sustainable Acting Career 37:30 – Content Creation as an Authentic Marketing Strategy 40:50 – Finding Freedom Within the Script Listen to the full conversation for Jim's stories, insights, and lessons from an extraordinary career in performance.

Welcome back to another episode of 'Closed Course' powered by Pins and Aces! Blake and Erik are back for another great interview, catching up with former professional golfer and golf content creator, Mac Boucher! Mac picked up a golf club for the first time at the age of 18, and is fully self-taught when it comes to his unique skill set. After a brain cyst forced him to give up all the sports he grew up playing, golf became his passion and number one priority. He worked with Sean Foley to perfect his game, and started playing professionally in Canada. His professional career slowed down in 2017, when he moved to New Zealand to become a teaching professional. During COVID, when teaching slowed down, he transitioned more into golf content creation, making all sorts of social media content around his unique golf game. After grinding to gain a significant following, Mac is now a well-known golf creator, and has one of the largest golf-based followings in all of Canada! Mac and the guys discuss his journey to becoming a self-taught pro, how he broke into the realm of content creation, the increased crossover between professional athletes and golf, and all sorts of different events and tournaments that he has coming up in the near future. From the best golf courses in Canada, his biggest tips for golf content creation, and so much more, this is an awesome interview you won't want to miss! You can find Mac on Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube @macbouchergolf Tune into 'Closed Course' Tuesdays at 6:00 A.M. for unforgettable interviews, golf convos, and more! #940 Liz and I are going head-to-head today and comparing our very different audience growth approaches! As you know, I'm all about posting daily. Especially since I've seen huge success creating Shorts for YouTube. After all, two million subscribers with just fifteen minutes of work per day is pretty good! Liz, on the other hand, is much more of a stealth operator. Her targeted growth is based on finding the right collaborators for strategies like lead magnet swaps, virtual speaking, and podcast guesting. She values her email list way more than any follower count! And the truth is, both of these approaches could work. That's why you should join us for this session to uncover and choose the growth tactic that resonates the most with you! So how do you build consistency to post every day? Alternatively, how do you network across to build your audience brick-by-brick? Tune in to find out! Mike Davis didn't set out to run a media company – he set out to help tell Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s story. Today, he's President of Dirty Mo Media, leading a company that's grown from a single podcast into a full network of shows, live events, and branded content across NASCAR, motorsports and new verticals outside of the racing world. In Part 1, Kelley Earnhardt Miller takes Mike back to the beginning: becoming Dale Jr.'s publicist during the Budweiser years, helping navigate the historic departure from DEI, and launching the original Dale Jr. Download with no business plan – just an instinct that NASCAR fans wanted more Dale Jr. content. That instinct turned into Dirty Mo Media. As the company grew beyond one show, Mike made the call to move from behind the mic as co-host of the Download to behind the scenes – becoming President and eventually an equity partner, focused on building the infrastructure, team, and strategy behind DMM's expansion. This is the story of how one NASCAR podcast became a media company, and the partnership that made it possible. Part 2 drops next week, where Mike and Kelley go deeper on what DMM looks like today and where it's headed next Check out Dirty Mo Media on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@DirtyMoMedia Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company.
