What if the biggest thing holding your business back isn't the economy, your competitors, or rising costs—but your own mindset? In this solo episode of 365 Driven, host Tony Whatley challenges business owners and entrepreneurs to rethink how they view problems, success, and personal growth. Drawing from his own journey of growing up in a lower-middle-class family, working construction to pay his way through engineering school, and eventually building and selling multi-million-dollar businesses, Tony shares the mindset shifts that helped him escape scarcity thinking and create lasting success. Throughout the episode, Tony explains why so many people stay trapped in a "poor mindset" by giving too much emotional energy to small problems while ignoring the bigger opportunities that can transform their lives. Using practical examples—from arguing over gas prices to stressing about restaurant menus—he illustrates how successful entrepreneurs learn to assign value to their problems, focus on what they can control, and continually "graduate" to solving larger, higher-value challenges. You'll also discover why increasing your income is less about working harder and more about developing the skills to solve bigger problems, why companies pay more for people who can manage greater risk, and how investing in knowledge—not excuses—creates long-term wealth. Tony also dives into the principles of Stoicism, emotional discipline, and personal accountability, offering practical strategies to stop reacting to distractions and start responding like the person you aspire to become. If you're a business owner who wants to stop wasting energy on low-value distractions, build a stronger mindset, and focus on the opportunities that truly move the needle, this episode will challenge the way you think—and help you level up both your business and your life. Key highlights: How to escape a poor mindset and think like a successful entrepreneur. Why small distractions keep business owners from bigger opportunities. The concept of "graduating" to solving higher-value problems. How emotional discipline and Stoicism improve business decision-making. Why increasing your income starts with developing valuable skills. The connection between solving bigger problems and earning more. How to stop wasting energy on things outside your control. Practical mindset shifts to create more focus, peace, and long-term success. Connect with Tony Whatley: Website: 365driven.com Instagram: @365driven Facebook: 365 Driven
Ken tells the story of a friend who got stranded in Detroit and rode three hours to Cleveland in a rental car with two women he'd just met on a delayed connecting flight, sparking a debate over whether that's a smart move or a reckless one. Ken argues it's an easy call if it saves a day of travel and money on a hotel, while Anthony pushes back that riding with strangers feels riskier than Ken lets on, even sharing his own story of choosing to wait out a flight delay in Seattle for four days rather than rush home. The two also riff on whether it's easier to talk politics with strangers than with people you know, with Anthony arguing baggage-free conversations are less fraught, before spiraling into a bit about using big vocabulary words to sound smart.
Hidden Killers With Tony Brueski | True Crime News & Commentary
The DA informed Nolan Wells' family that the case will go before a grand jury. The internet heard "criminal charges." The DA's office meant something else entirely — a procedural checkpoint Jackson County applies to any death that remains unexplained. One of those readings made national news. The other disappeared. This episode lays out how the Mississippi grand jury system actually functions, what authority it holds, and why the distance between public expectation and legal reality could shape whether this family ever gets answers.Mississippi runs its grand juries behind a wall. A panel of citizens drawn from the county's voter rolls sits with only the prosecutor and called witnesses. Defense lawyers are barred. So are defendants, journalists, and the public. Most Mississippi grand juries do not even use a court reporter — no transcript exists. When the panel deliberates and votes, the prosecutor exits the room. The jurors decide alone.Three outcomes are possible: formal charges, outright dismissal, or a decision to table the case for a future court term. None requires a public explanation. But the grand jury also wields investigative muscle that most observers overlook — it can compel any witness to appear, testify solo and under oath, with no attorney beside them. That authority matters here. The friends who boated to Horn Island with Nolan and returned without him have offered competing versions of what happened. A young woman on the island says Nolan planned to head back with the group. The group says he wanted to stay. Somebody is wrong. A grand jury is built to answer exactly that kind of question — behind closed doors, under penalty of perjury, one witness at a time. The state and independent autopsies are both outstanding. The phone data has not been reviewed. The evidence file is still incomplete — and what is in it when those jurors sit down will dictate every outcome that follows.END LINKS:Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/ Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? Step into the shadowy fringes of the unknown with My Dark Path as we unravel one of the most terrifying monster encounters of 1952—the night the Flatwoods Monster descended on West Virginia.Host MF Thomas transports you to the misty hills of Flatwoods, Braxton County, where a group of boys playing football spot a fiery object streaking across the twilight sky and crashing on a remote hillside. Joined by their mother Kathleen May and young National Guardsman Gene Lemon with his dog, they climb toward a pulsing red flare—only to confront a towering 12-foot entity with an ace-of-spades shaped hood, glowing greenish-orange eyes like searchlights, a metallic body that hovers just above the ground, and a sickening metallic stench like burning electronics. The dog flees in terror, witnesses suffer immediate nausea and raw throats, while skid marks, oily residues, strange metal fragments, and mysterious federal agents posing as reporters swarm the town—complete with vanished evidence and media frenzy that still defy explanation decades later. Was the Flatwoods Monster a genuine extraterrestrial visitor, a mechanical probe from another world, a secret government missile test and cover-up, or simply mass hysteria triggered by a meteor? This episode blends eerie narration with historical context, skeptical scrutiny, and believer's evidence. Perfect for fans of unsolved enigmas, cryptids, and the paranormal.

You can feel it building for weeks: the pressure in your chest, the restlessness, the thought that if you could just get away everything would finally make sense. We're talking about that temptation to use travel as an escape and the sobering truth that your deeper struggles don't stay behind when the trip ends.I share a personal story from a June road trip and what I've been wrestling with around my living situation after years of nomad life. I've been longing to settle down, put down roots, and stop “flitting around,” and I realized how easy it is to call constant motion a lifestyle when it's sometimes a way to avoid what hurts. Through prayer and daily guidance, I found clarity about what to do next and, more importantly, a sense of peace even before anything changed on the outside. We also explore the healthier side of travel: how intentional travel can give women the space to heal from trauma, reset mentally, and see a problem for what it really is. When you step out of the day-to-day noise with purpose, you can come home renewed, able to face your real life with a fresher mind and stronger direction. If you're in a messy middle season and you know you need a break without running away, this conversation is for you. Baxie talks with Scott Phares from The Hollywood Stars. The Hollywood Stars were a band that was hand selected by the notorious Kim Fowley to be the West Coast answer to the New York Dolls. While things didn't exactly work out that way, the Hollywood Stars attempted to record several albums that were either abandoned or sat on the shelves for several decades. And yet, two of their songs were taken by producer Bob Ezrin and appeared on what would become platinum albums for both KISS and Alice Cooper! (“King of the Nighttime World” from KISS's Destroyer” and “Escape” which appeared on Cooper's Welcome to My Nightmare). In 2013 released their previously unreleased album “Shine Like a Radio”. Six years later they released their second lost album “Sound City”. Both were released to great critical acclaim. In 2024 the Hollywood Stars reformer and released the album “Starstruck” which was also well received. And on July 17th the Hollywood Stars released their latest album, “Hey L.A.”. And it's even better! One of the great comeback stories in Rock history! Listen on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, YouTube, and on the Rock102 app. Brought to you by Metro Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram
Road Atlanta is a famous roadracing track 800 miles from Tulsa, Oklahoma, a grueling trip to make in the back seat of a 1972 BMW 2002.Tony and Indy ride in the front seats. Pennie and I ride in the back.We stop only for gas.Arriving in pre-dawn Atlanta, we get a few hours sleep, then go down to the track where 67 racecars are parked in the dim sunlight of a misty morning. We are invited to examine all 67 of the racecars. At the end of 40 minutes, Tony points to car number 52, a 1978 Buick Skyhawk. He says,“Unless the driver sticks it into the wall or the engine explodes, that's the car that will win.”I looked at number 52, then glanced around at all the other cars and said, “Why?”Tony said,“That's a ten-thousand-dollar paint job, and paint jobs don't win races.”“You're telling me that the owner is an idiot. So why do you think his car will win?”Tony slowly shook his head, then said,“The fact that he spent $10,000 on a paint job lets me know that he spared no expense doing everything that matters. This guy did hundreds of important things to this car before he gave a single thought to the paint job. This paint job was the very last thing he did.”When I understood what Tony was saying, I repeated it back to him. “The fact that he has spent a ton of money to repaint a brand-new car that was already beautiful means that he has already done everything else that could help him win this race.”Tony said,“Ten-thousand-dollar paint jobs don't win races.”I nodded my head, then we silently climbed the hill where we would sit to watch the race. The track at Road Atlanta is two-and-a-half miles of hills, valleys, winding curves, and long straightaways that eat most of the cars and drivers who dare to place tires on its asphalt.A grass-and-tree-covered park sits in the center of that fierce track like a glittering jewel. This is where we will sit on blankets and watch cars fly past at startling speeds as 67 drivers try to outdistance each other for 6 screaming hours. At the end of the appointed time, only 24 cars remained on the track.Number 52 won by an impressive margin.A client said something to me three weeks ago that triggered my memory of standing on that racetrack with Tony 48 years ago. When a young client said that he was thinking about spending a huge amount of money for new truck wraps, I was instantly transported back to that track, listening to Tony explain why the car with the $10,000 paint job would win the race.My client owns a fast-growing home services company that sends technicians to houses to fix things that are broken. He has only been in business a few years.I accepted him as a client because I saw that he had already begun doing the things that will take his company higher than the tops of the mountains that surround him. When he told me that he was thinking of investing a shocking amount of money to have his service trucks re-wrapped, I asked, “Why?”He said he had read a list of extremely successful companies who had all used the same graphics house to design their new truck wraps.I asked,“Was it the owner of the graphics house that compiled and published the list?”My client said “Yes.”I said, “I once went to an Italian Restaurant in Weehawken, New Jersey that had a prominent sign in the foyer that said, “This Dining Establishment is Highly Recommended by its Owner.”We both laughed. Then I said to my client,“Paint jobs don't win races and truck wraps don't grow companies. The owners of every company on that list had already done everything they could do that would make a difference. When they had run out of ways to spend money on things that actually matter, they decided to get an expensive paint job.”Then I concluded my counsel by saying,“You own this company. I do not. My job is to help you do whatever you choose to do. If you feel like you have already done everything that you know for sure will make a difference, then spend the money for the truck wraps. But don't think that those companies became successful because of their truck wraps. Those companies became successful because they had already done everything else that matters.”I do not yet know what my young client will choose to do.But I do know two things:He is smart, hard working, and is outdistancing all of his competitors.Paint jobs don't win races.Roy H. Johnny Mac shares five good news stories: a new study suggests Earth might avoid being swallowed when the sun becomes a red giant because mass loss could weaken solar gravity and tidal effects may be weaker than once believed, potentially letting Earth drift outward (though Mercury and Venus would not). In Michigan, Titan Plumbing found an engagement ring in a sewer line and reunited it with Carol, lost for about 10 years, with paperwork dating to 1965; it was cleaned and revealed to be white gold. In Texas, an overturned truck released two million bees, and beekeepers helped recover and transport them to a honey farm. Energy analyst Josef Schachter discusses the evolving landscape of the global oil and gas sector. He identifies a new bull market cycle that began in 2020, driven largely by the industrial needs of the developing world and the essential role of fossil fuels in mining green energy minerals. Schachter details how geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and the conflict in Ukraine create significant market volatility and supply risks. He provides a technical outlook on price floors and investment strategies, specifically highlighting the resilience of the American and Canadian energy markets. While addressing the rise of electric vehicles and data centers, he argues that traditional hydrocarbons will remain dominant into the 2030s. Derrick Broze and Hakeem Anwar discuss the rapid expansion of AI data centers and the rising surveillance state. They introduce ReclaimFuture.com, a platform designed to help citizens map local data centers that threaten utility prices, water supplies, and digital privacy. The conversation highlights a growing movement of mass non-compliance against technologies like license plate readers and biometric tracking. The speakers argue that these infrastructure projects are part of a transnational technocracy that spans both Western and BRICS nations, requiring a unified, grassroots response. To combat this, they are organizing a national day of local activism on August 1st to encourage community-led resistance. They emphasize that achieving data privacy and preserving resources depends on people power and education rather than relying on global political shifts. Dr. Rima Laibow discusses the urgent threat of global totalitarianism and the “regulatory capture” of nations by technocratic elites. The dialogue explores how international organizations like the UN exert control through biometric IDs, surveillance, and environmental mandates to erode personal sovereignty. Dr. Laibow argues that modern political movements and even some alternative media figures are infiltrated by controlled opposition designed to neutralize effective resistance. To counter this, she urges the public to demand national laws comply strictly with constitutional protections and calls for individuals to reject a psychologically engineered state of helplessness and reclaim their digital and physical autonomy. What if self-control isn't mainly about saying no, but about keeping Christ at the center of what we desire? Money has a way of revealing what our hearts are chasing. Our spending, saving, giving, and borrowing decisions often tell a deeper story about what we love, what we fear, and what we believe will satisfy us. That's why biblical temperance is about far more than discipline or willpower. In our continuing series on the cardinal virtues and how Christian character shapes the way we handle money, author and theologian Pierce Taylor Hibbs joined the show to help us consider temperance, or self-control. He is a Senior Writer at Westminster Theological Seminary and the author of The Book of Giving: How the God Who Gives Can Make Us Givers. Today, he reminds us that self-control is not merely a human achievement. It is a gift of the Spirit that helps us enjoy God's gifts without letting them take God's place. Self-Control Is a Heart Issue When many people hear the word “self-control,” they think of willpower. They imagine discipline, restraint, or simply saying no to whatever they want in the moment. But Scripture gives us a deeper picture. Self-control is not merely a personality trait some people have and others lack. It is not gained by sheer determination. Instead, self-control is closely connected to the heart. A lack of self-control often reveals disordered desires—places where our hearts are chasing something other than God. The presence of self-control reveals a heart that is increasingly content in God and His promises. That means temperance is not about rejecting every enjoyable thing in the world. It is about rightly ordering our loves. God must be first, and everything else must take its proper place beneath Him. In other words, self-control is about keeping first things first. A Gift of the Spirit That truth should encourage us. If self-control were only a matter of willpower, many of us would have little hope. We have all experienced the frustration of trying harder, setting new goals, making new rules, and still falling back into the same habits. But Galatians 5 tells us that self-control is a fruit of the Spirit. It is something God produces in His people as we walk with Him. That does not mean discipline is unimportant. Habits, boundaries, budgets, and accountability can all be helpful tools. But they are not the source of true self-control. The source is God Himself. So when our desires are out of order, the first step is not merely to try harder. It is to turn to the Lord in prayer and ask Him to form in us what we cannot produce on our own. God has given us a new heart in Christ, and by His Spirit, He teaches us to desire what is good, lasting, and true. Enjoying God's Gifts Without Replacing Him Temperance may involve restriction because our desires can easily become disordered. But restriction is not the goal. The goal is joy rightly ordered under Christ. A simple example is something like coffee or sugar. There is nothing wrong with enjoying either. They can be good gifts from God. But if our world were to fall apart without them, that might reveal something about the state of our hearts. The problem is not that we enjoy good things. The problem comes when we love those things more than we love our relationship with the Lord. A helpful question to ask is: What is my heart chasing right now? That question applies not only to food and drink, but also to money. What are our purchases chasing? Comfort? Control? Status? Escape? Approval? Security? Pleasure? None of those desires is unfamiliar to the human heart. And money often becomes the tool we use to pursue them. Why Money Reveals Our Desires Paul writes in 1 Timothy 6:10 that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils.” The issue is not money itself but the heart's relationship to it. Jesus also warned that we cannot serve both God and money. Money is powerful because, in many ways, it functions like a key. It can unlock access to many of the things the heart desires—comfort, influence, experiences, possessions, pleasure, recognition, or a sense of control. That is why our financial decisions are so revealing. They show what we are chasing. Of course, money can be used in a good and God-honoring way. It can provide for needs, support a family, bless a neighbor, fund ministry, relieve suffering, and express worship through generosity. But money can also reveal that our hearts are running after something other than God. Our spending decisions tell a story. The question is whether that story points to Christ as our greatest treasure. The Challenge of a Consumer Culture Financial self-control is especially challenging in a culture that constantly tells us to buy now, upgrade now, and satisfy every desire now. Technology has made temptation more immediate than ever. Social media platforms and online ads are designed to place curated products directly in front of us. The very things we are most likely to want often appear in our feeds, inboxes, and search results. That means our commitment to Christ is being tested constantly—not only by obviously sinful things, but also by good gifts that can quietly become ultimate things. A vacation can be a gift. A home can be a gift. A hobby can be a gift. A meal, a phone, a car, a cup of coffee, or a new pair of shoes can all be received with gratitude. But when the gift becomes more captivating than the Giver, our desires have become disordered. Temperance helps us receive God's gifts with open hands, gratitude, and perspective. Jesus Shows Us Perfect Self-Control One beautiful picture of this comes after the resurrection in John 21. The disciples had spent the night fishing and caught nothing. Jesus met them on the shore and neither rebuked them for fishing nor told them that physical things did not matter. Instead, He helped them find fish, prepared a fire, and invited them to breakfast. Fresh fish and warm bread were not treated as distractions from spiritual life. They were gifts to be enjoyed with Jesus at the center. That is a wonderful picture of temperance. Biblical self-control does not require us to reject every earthly blessing. It teaches us to enjoy every blessing in communion with Christ, remembering that He is better than the gifts He gives. We do not need to abandon money or pretend material needs do not matter. But we do need to ask whether Christ remains central in how we earn, spend, save, give, and enjoy. A Question for Every Financial Decision So how can we practice temperance in our financial lives this week? One simple question can help: How is God remaining central in this decision? That question does not produce a mechanical answer, but it does reveal the heart. It invites us to pause, pray, and consider whether our money is serving our love for God or competing with it. Self-control is not the joyless denial of every good thing. It is the Spirit-given ability to enjoy God's gifts without letting them replace God as our ultimate treasure. On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions: I'm 67, and my wife is 68. We have a traditional IRA, and I'm concerned that once RMDs begin at 73, the withdrawals could eventually push us—or my wife, if I pass first—into a higher tax bracket and increase Medicare premiums. What planning steps should we consider? I've been overpaid on Social Security SSDI and am currently repaying it. Do I have to repay the full amount before I can switch to my regular Social Security retirement benefit? This week, we're continuing our archive miniseries, Myths That Built Trickle-Down Economics, with the myth that austerity is responsible economic policy. We're revisiting this conversation now because the austerity playbook is still very much alive. The Trump administration and DOGE have cut federal agencies, pushed out public servants, and treated public infrastructure like waste — even though those are the systems we need most during a crisis. And if the economy turns downward, politicians will almost certainly reach for the same old answer: slash public support, make working people pay the price, and call it responsibility. Nick and Goldy talk with professor and political economist Clara Mattei, author of The Capital Order: How Economists Invented Austerity and Paved the Way to Fascism, about how austerity became one of the most powerful myths of modern capitalism, how economists helped sell it as common sense, and why it has always been about more than budgets. Clara Mattei is a professor of economics at the University of Tulsa, Founding President of FREE: Forum for Real Economic Emancipation, and author of The Capital Order: How Economists Invented Austerity and Paved the Way to Fascism and Escape from Capitalism: An Intervention. Tim Hinchliffe discusses the advancement of the global technocratic control grid highlighting the rollout of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI), which integrates digital IDs, programmable currencies, and data centers into a centralized system of governance and includes digital embassies for nations who don’t possess their own compute. Nervous System Hacking, Willpower vs Habit Systems, Calendar Time Blocking, and the Wallet Posture Fix Damaging Your Spine Most people think surviving a life-threatening situation comes down to luck. Jordan Harbinger did it twice, and what got him out wasn't luck, it was a nervous system he had trained to override panic. This episode breaks down what actually happens in your body during a real fight-or-flight response, and how those same tools power his approach to human performance and hacking the excuses that keep most people stuck. Host Dave Asprey sits down with Jordan Harbinger, founder of The Art of Charm, one of the top podcasts in the world on charisma, negotiation, and relationship building. Jordan built his expertise the hard way, surviving two real kidnapping attempts using the same psychological principles he now teaches to entrepreneurs and high performers. That firsthand experience under extreme pressure is exactly what makes his insight into stress, willpower, and behavior change worth trusting. Jordan and Dave dig into what your nervous system does under real threat, why adrenaline hijacks rational thought, and how to build resilience that holds up when it matters most. They unpack why willpower fails as a long-term strategy, and why building smarter systems, not more discipline, is the real key to lasting change. Jordan breaks down his calendar-based productivity method, explains how sleep optimization and chronotype shape daily performance, and reveals a bizarre, physical habit quietly wrecking most people's spine and posture without them realizing it. This is essential listening for anyone serious about biohacking, human performance, hacking the nervous system, brain optimization, neuroplasticity, and longevity, and building resilience that performs under real pressure, not just in theory. You'll Learn: How Jordan Harbinger used psychology to talk his way out of two real kidnapping attempts What actually happens in your nervous system during a fight-or-flight response Why willpower fails as a long-term strategy and what to build instead How a calendar-based system eliminates decision fatigue and boosts daily performance How sleep optimization and chronotype affect brain function and productivity Why your wallet might be quietly damaging your spine and posture How to rewire ingrained habits and reactions through neuroplasticity and awareness Thank you to our sponsors! - PredictiveMind™ | Get your Brain Pattern Mapping report at predictivemind.io/dave and use code DAVE for 10% off. - EMR-Tek | https://www.emr-tek.com/DAVE and use code DAVE for 40% off. - iRestore | Reverse hair loss at www.irestore.com/DAVE and get exclusive savings on the iRestore Elite, use code DAVE Dave Asprey is a four-time New York Times bestselling author, founder of Bulletproof Coffee, and the father of biohacking.
