Contribution Episode from our lovely Community In this episode: Learning how to move with your energy and being patient with the mixed signals that come with it can truly help you to create a better relationship with food, exercise and your body. There are so many shoulds out there when it comes to health and wellbeing, but the reality is - when you learn to listen to what you need and do what you actually want to do - the whole game changes. After facing big challenges like being flooded out of our home in 2021 and 3 moves after it, I had to learn how to adapt my routines to the degree when my energy got super challenged and make peace with the times when strength and fitness left me in the dust as part of the process. - Amanda O'Hare About Amanda: Hey! Eure Anastasia
Fad workouts have been with us for decades, but they go back much further than we realize. Long before CrossFit, Zumba, P90X, Tae Box, Jazzercise or Jack LaLanne, we had 19th century strongmen. These mustachioed showmen were the first global fitness influencers. They hauled trunks of weights onto steamships, toured the world, then sold exercise equipment through the mail. The most famous was Eugene Sandow, who broke chains, and created with his own body a "manned cavalry bridge" where he would lie down while men, horses, and a carriage were driven over his body. He even fought a lion in front of an auditorium and won, although the lion was almost definitely sedated. Today’s guest is Connor Heffernan, author of “When Fitness Went Global: The Rise of Physical Culture in the Nineteenth Century.” In this episode, we discuss: Ancient Egyptians were basically doing CrossFit thousands of years ago. They trained with swinging sandbags that look exactly like modern kettlebell flows. One of the first exercise practices to experience globalization was Indian club-swinging. Indian club-swinging, originating from the heavy training clubs used by Indian wrestlers and soldiers for centuries, was observed and adopted by British military officers stationed in India during the early 1800s. Early diet culture was a carnival of quack science. Victorian fitness magazines were filled with miracle tonics, starvation cures and pseudoscientific meal plans. Many of our “new” diet trends are rebranded versions of schemes first marketed with sepia portraits and dubious testimonials. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Most bodybuilders go to their GP already knowing what they want. This episode explores why that often backfires, and how to have more collaborative, less defensive medical conversations. Something worth sharing:"The dogs keep barking, but the caravan keeps moving." Meaning: Ignore the noise outside, and keep moving towards your goals Would you rather?A. Welcome to Episode 191 of the Bodybuilding Down Under Podcast! In the first episode of 2026, the boys kick things off with a wide-ranging Q&A discussion covering the realities of contest prep, natural bodybuilding, and where the sport may be heading this year. We open with a deep dive into a question many competitors quietly ask after their first show: how many people actually come back to compete again and what factors influence whether someone returns for a second or third prep. From lifestyle demands and expectations to placings, enjoyment of the process, and long-term goals, we unpack why contest prep tends to be a make-or-break experience. The conversation then shifts to natural bodybuilding integrity, including discussion around emerging peptides, appetite-modulating drugs, and where the line sits between recovery tools, unfair advantage, and the spirit of drug-tested sport. We also explore supplement quality, third-party testing, and the realities of contamination risk for natural athletes. To wrap up, the boys reflect on major fitness and bodybuilding trends from 2025, make some early predictions for 2026, and discuss individual training priorities, exercise selection, and performance goals moving into the new year. Enjoy!

You can train hard, eat perfectly, and still feel run down… if your sleep is off. In this episode, Luke and I break down why sleep becomes such a common bottleneck for bodybuilders, what's actually causing it (environment, stress load, stimulants, PED-related sympathetic drive, and sleep apnea), and what you can change tonight to improve sleep quality and recovery. We also cover what to track so you actually know whether sleep is improving, why wearables can be misleading, and the practical “non-flashy” fixes that move the needle the fastest. If your energy is flat, your training performance is slipping, or your physique isn't responding the way it should… start here.
