This Virgo season, what if instead of adding more to your to-do list, you focused on contribution? In this astrology for entrepreneurs episode, I'm breaking down why Virgo energy isn't about perfectionism or endless optimization - it's about skilled service and conscious choices about where you spend your precious energetic currency. As Taylor Swift says, "energy is expensive" - so let's stop throwing our energetic coins away on busy work. Whether you have strong Virgo placements or not, this season is asking all of us to choose mastery over martyrdom, presence over productivity, and artistry over optimization. In this episode, I share:

Whether it's a parent, leader, pastor, athlete, or salesperson, anxiety often drives four major areas: Over-control (micromanaging, over-preparing); Avoidance (not taking necessary risks); Perfectionism (overworking to avoid mistakes) and People-pleasing (excessive concern about approval). In this message we will explore the anxious parent and the anxious child, highlighting how this dynamic affects families. As parents we have the privilege of imparting many good things to our children. Sadly, often out of ignorance, we pass on negative things, one of which is anxiety. If many parents knew that anxiety is contagious, they would take ownership and address it. The Anxious Parent is generally overprotective, micromanaging every detail of a child's life. This is often perpetuated by the fact that such an approach is often highly regarded and rewarded by those around them. They are envied by other parents as the model parents who are deeply involved in the child's world. They have difficulty allowing children to take age-appropriate risks. Their children, as they get older, begin to clash with them as they feel they are being babied all the time. They constantly check on children's whereabouts, grades, or friendships. They also have frequent “what if” scenarios about their safety or future. This is how anxiety works, they meditate on the worst-case scenario and then live in that emotional state. They typically feel like they are going to fail or have failed as a parent. Their sense of personal worth is tied to child's success or safety. This results in a lot of anxiety, particularly because a lot of the child's behaviour is beyond their control. They tend to ruminate by multiple mental replays of past parenting mistakes. They also have a fixation and extreme fear of having regrets later in life. This fuels their behaviour. Their lives are riddled with “Shoulds” and they have no revelation of guilt free motherhood or fatherhood. A powerful self-coaching question for them to ask is, “What shoulds have a placed on my parenting that Jesus hasn't?”

In this episode of Business Coaching Secrets, Karl Bryan and Rode Dog dig deep into the realities of business coaching success, coaching mistakes, and personal development. Karl unpacks why “regret” is a bigger fear than failure, what every personal development program gets right, and how “cloning” proven models can dramatically accelerate your business results. The duo also address the dangers of perfectionism, misconceptions like the 10,000-hour rule, and the powerful role of AI and feedback loops in building a bulletproof coaching practice. Key Topics Covered Finding Peace, Not Just Happiness Karl explains why chasing happiness can be a losing game for coaches and business owners, and why “peace” is far more sustainable and powerful. Quotes, Regret, and Success Mindset The hosts riff on the difference between those who achieve and those who sustain, highlighting why ultimate respect is given to those who keep what they earn, not just those who made it big. Personal Development's Core Lesson Across all major personal growth books and courses, Karl asserts that the key pattern is the clarity of knowing exactlywhat you want. He illustrates this with Kobe Bryant's mindset and decision-making, showing how crystal-clear goals make big choices almost automatic. Business “Hacks” for Coaches Karl introduces the concept of “asymmetrical risk/reward”—making moves where success is massive but failure is minor. He shares practical examples like cloning proven coaching or business models and using AI for rapid insight. Debunking Industry Myths Classic ideas like the 10,000-hour rule and habitual work from “Atomic Habits” are challenged. Karl suggests that deliberate, focused repetitions and an effective feedback loop matter more than raw time spent. The Wardrobe of Identities Karl shares a robust metaphor: Instead of being stuck with a single identity (entrepreneur, technician, or manager), successful business owners and coaches should wear these “hats” like different clothes, adapting as needed. Mistakes Coaches Make Neglecting brand in favor of pure direct response marketing. Relying too much on new, untested ideas instead of “cloning” what already works. Getting too attached to a single identity or role. Failing to leverage AI and modern technology. Confusing habits with true, intentional skill development. The Power of “Cloning” Whether you're a landscaper or a high-end consultant, Karl stresses the immense gains in modeling what market leaders are doing—right down to their offers, marketing, and client strategies. There's no need to reinvent the wheel. Notable Quotes “Don't idolize a billionaire for their wins. Model their behavior for when they lose.” “You can get lucky and make it, but you can't get lucky and keep it.” “You only lose when you quit trying.” “The highest respect isn't paid to those who have made it. The highest respect is paid to those who have made it—and kept it.” “If you don't know where you're going, any road will get you there.” “Trial and error is probably one of the worst strategies ever in business.” “Cloning is not stealing, it's smart business.” Actionable Takeaways 1. Clone Proven Success Study, model, and adapt winning strategies from market leaders in your industry instead of trying to create something totally new from scratch. 2. Define Your Vision Like Kobe Bryant, be laser clear about what you want—then make every decision through the filter of that goal. 3. Use Asymmetrical Risk/Reward Pursue strategies with big upside and minimal downside; don't bet the farm on a single unproven idea. 4. Leverage AI for Growth Tap into AI tools to accelerate research, streamline your operations, and spot opportunities competitors miss. 5. Don't Chase Perfection Launch fast, learn quickly, and adjust as you go. Perfectionism is just disguised procrastination. 6. Beware the 10,000-Hour Myth Focus on intentional reps and feedback, not clocking mindless hours. 7. Wear Multiple Hats Move fluidly between entrepreneur, technician, and manager modes. Don't lock in to a single “identity.” Resources Mentioned Profit Acceleration Software™ (by Karl Bryan) – for modeling and accelerating business profits AI Coach Assist (Focused.com) – AI-powered business coaching assistance Books Referenced: Atomic Habits by James Clear The E-Myth by Michael Gerber Money: Master the Game by Tony Robbins Networking & Business Groups: Chambers of Commerce, BNI AI Tools: ChatGPT, GROK The Six-Figure Coach Magazine: Get Your Free Subscription If you enjoyed this episode, please subscribe, share, and leave a review! In this timeless, we explore the “ladder” - the system of hierarchies that tells us which bodies are worthy and which are not. From racism, ableism and capitalism to beauty standards and perfectionism, the ladder keeps us climbing for external validation and always leaves us feeling not enough. Radical self-love offers another way. It asks us to step off the ladder, to revisit the stories that placed us on it and to begin divesting from the messages that keep us trapped. It calls us back to our inherent worth, our divinity and our wholeness. Sonya Renee Taylor Sonya lays out her radical self-love vision. She is a New York Times best-selling author, world-renowned activist and thought leader on racial justice, body liberation and transformational change, international award winning artist, and founder of The Body Is Not an Apology (TBINAA), a global digital media and education company exploring the intersections of identity, healing, and social justice through the framework of radical self-love. This is not easy work, but it is possible through honesty, community, grace and a willingness to embrace our own complexity. And as we do it, we create the conditions not only to free ourselves, but to dismantle the ladder for everyone. We hope this short piece roots softly in your body. In this episode, Cindy Esliger talks about the invisible barrier of our own thinking that can be in the way of progressing in our careers. Our brains are wired for self-preservation, not bold career leaps, so even though we say we want impact or recognition, we are likely being steered away from risk and discomfort by our thoughts. So what do we do? How do we identify this kind of thinking and challenge those patterns? Cindy describes what the self-preservation thinking looks like, how to develop our self-awareness, and ways to start to take risks in our careers. When we understand that our brains are primarily wired for survival, we can we can start to see how staying safe can often also mean staying stuck. Safe avoids discomfort, keeps us playing small, and does not like making others uncomfortable. Our self-preservation can show up as roadblocks like perfectionism or overthinking. Cindy urges us to get honest about both our strengths and struggles so we can begin dismantling the barriers unconsciously holding us back. Once we identify what we're struggling with, Cindy offers the follow-up question of, “What's standing in the way of us working on them?” Self-awareness is not self-blame. We aren't responsible for every roadblock in our way. But self-awareness lets us take back control so we can empower ourselves by working with both our brilliance and blind spots. Cindy shares some steps to take. Describe ourselves with five words. Then ask what five words would friends or family choose for us. This outside perspective is key to a balanced view of ourselves. When we can identify where we're holding back, we learn to let discomfort shape us into something greater. We can step out of the safe thinking and into something challenging. Do you ever feel like you're stuck in autopilot mode, running through the motions without really asking if you're living the life you truly want? Most of us have at least one habit that feels out of alignment, whether it's scrolling at night, overindulging, or staying in a draining job. We judge ourselves harshly, wondering why we can't break free. But what if these habits are not the problem? What if, instead, they're signals that point to something deeper? In this episode, I offer a new perspective on habits, especially those we label as "bad." Instead of seeing them as flaws to be fixed, I invite you to understand the deeper, often protective reasons behind them. When we approach our habits with curiosity and compassion, we start to recognize that everything we do makes sense when viewed in the context of our life experiences and what we've been taught to value. Wendy, celebrated for her impactful presence at a "Recover Out Loud" event, shares her story with vulnerability, detailing a childhood marked by feeling like the "black sheep" in a stable middle-class family, early physical development at age 9 that led to harassment, and a traumatic incident at 11 where she witnessed a fatal accident, sparking deep guilt. Her adolescence spiraled into rebellion, with her first heavy drinking and pregnancy in ninth grade, followed by a loss of her musical talents due to substance use. Hey team! My guest this week is Dr. Ute Liersch, a Chartered Counselling and Coaching Psychologist with over a decade of clinical experience and author of A Minimalist's Guide to Becoming Resilient. Dr. Ute specializes in helping adults navigate anxiety, ADHD, and burnout. Her therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and mindfulness-based therapies. Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Ute is an associate lecturer at Birkbeck, University of London, and holds a Fellowship in Higher Education. In our conversation, we explore the nervous system beyond the textbook fight-flight-freeze model, including how our nervous system shapes our mood, motivation, and even the way we see the world. Dr. Ute explains why so many of us with ADHD find that our sympathetic nervous system is permanently on edge and how we can work on rewiring that response. We also talk about perfectionism, attention types, and what resilience looks like in real life, breaking it down into actionable steps that fit into our schedules and ADHD brains. If you'd life to follow along on the show notes page you can find that at http://hackingyouradhd.com/240 YouTube: https://tinyurl.com/y835cnrk Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/HackingYourADHD This Episode's Top Tips 1. Our parasympathetic nervous system can get stuck in a permanent state of “go time.” To help move our PNS back to a relaxed state, Dr. Ute suggests progressive muscle relaxation, where you are tensing and then releasing muscle groups one at a time so you can physically feel the shift from tension to ease. 2. Many of us have internalized the idea that there's something fundamentally wrong with the way we work, think, or exist. Dr. Ute suggests replacing this assumption of personal defect with curiosity: “If I weren't wrong, what would I need to feel safe?” This slight shift can open up room to problem-solve and tailor strategies to your actual needs. 3. We often talk about resilience like it's a fixed trait—you either “have it” or you don't. But Dr. Ute points out that resilience is about what you do, not what you are. It's built in small, repeatable actions that teach your nervous system and your mind how to recover from stressors. Resilience isn't about holding it together forever; it's about giving yourself enough space and recovery so you can keep going when you need it the most.

What happens when perfectionism, academic pressure, and athletics collide with body image struggles? In this powerful episode of Dr. Marianne-Land, I sit down with Dr. Amanda Marie, a psychologist, educator, and mental health advocate who shares her story of battling bulimia throughout her teen years, college, and into her PhD program. Amanda opens up about how her eating disorder began at 15, fueled by a drive for perfect grades, external validation, and the pressure to perform. She talks about how restriction, bingeing, and purging shaped her daily life and how she balanced secrecy, martial arts training, and academic achievement while silently struggling. We explore: How perfectionism and self-worth tied to grades, sports, and appearance can feed into disordered eating The hidden toll bulimia took on Amanda's body, mind, and relationships How academia and high-achieving environments can intensify eating disorders The turning point that inspired Amanda to pursue recovery after years of secrecy and shame The importance of support systems, therapy, and using determination as a strength in healing What Amanda would say to her 15-year-old self and to anyone listening who feels stuck in their eating disorder Amanda's story is one of survival and transformation. She explains how she reclaimed her grit and perseverance, once tied to her eating disorder, and redirected them toward recovery, authenticity, and compassion.

Do you ever feel like you shouldn't be giving advice, leading a project, or stepping into your own expertise because you're not perfect—or not perfect enough? That's expertise perfectionism—the constant self-doubt that tells you your knowledge isn't enough and that every mistake means you're failing. In this episode, I break down how to spot and release expertise perfectionism, why perfection isn't the baseline for impact, and how to measure your effectiveness by the help you provide rather than the mistakes you fear. Alli Webb made a name for herself as the visionary behind the blow-dry empire Drybar, and now, she's stepping back into the world of haircare—this time with an entirely different approach. Her new haircare brand, Messy, which launched in Sephora and online earlier this summer, focuses on embracing your natural hair rather than trying to achieve the “perfect” blowout. The brand's ethos is directly tied to Webb's personal journey of leaving perfectionism behind after exiting Drybar in 2020. In this episode, she discusses how she developed the mantra-based product names, why the only thing she's “anti” is the idea of perfection, and the relationship between Messy and the “clean girl” aesthetic. Life is going sideways. You're snapping at your people, overthinking, doom scrolling, or eating all the snacks. You know things aren't going well, but it feels like you just can't stop, and you can't get out of the pattern. The momentum of these moments can feel impossible to interrupt, even when you're fully aware that what you're doing isn't working. In this episode, I'm sharing the neuroscience behind why we get stuck in these reactive patterns and how our brain's survival mode takes over when we're stressed. Through a simple three-step process, you can interrupt the stress spiral and access more choice. The key isn't waiting for the perfect moment or overhauling everything; it's about creating what I call "one-degree shifts."
