Los estados del Golfo Pérsico atraviesan una crisis de primera magnitud. Sometidos al fuego diario de misiles y drones iraníes, la imagen de estabilidad que habían cultivado durante décadas se ha desmoronado. Todos dan por hecho que sus líderes deberán repensarlo su posición desde cero. Pero es improbable que modifiquen de raíz sus gran estrategia. Lo más seguro es que profundicen su alianza con Estados Unidos al tiempo que mantienen alguna forma de diálogo con Irán. Las fricciones entre los emiratos del Golfo y Estados Unidos a propósito de Irán no son nuevas (desde la invasión de Irak en 2003 hasta el acuerdo nuclear de Obama) pero ninguna llegó a mayores. Expulsar al ejército de EEUU de sus bases tras el conflicto solo daría la razón a Irán, que está atacándoles independientemente de las bases. Además, sin los sistemas Patriot y THAAD estadounidenses, que han interceptado en torno al 90% del armamento iraní, el peaje a pagar habría sido mucho mayor. Las alternativas a Estados Unidos revelan los límites de una posible diversificación de aliados. Pakistán ha resultado irrelevante pese a su acuerdo de defensa con Arabia Saudita. China se ha mantenido al margen y Europa funciona como complemento, no como sustituto. Entretanto, la imagen que tienen de Irán ha ido a peor, ya consideran enemigo al que antes consideraban hermano, pero eso no supondrá por ahora el fin de las relaciones. Saben que mientras en Teherán sigan mandando los mismos podrán estrangular el estrecho de Ormuz indefinidamente. La guerra ha generado un sentimiento de unidad, pero las diferencias políticas torpedean algo parecido a una OTAN del golfo Pérsico. Omán, de hecho, felicitó al nuevo líder supremo iraní y nadie más le secundó. Arabia Saudita, con su oleoducto Este-Oeste, está menos expuesta que los Emiratos, cuyos centros logísticos en la costa del golfo de Omán han sido atacados repetidamente. Cuando se asiente el polvo, estos emiratos tan ricos seguramente ajusten su política exterior, pero no la reinventarán. Estados Unidos es parte del problema, pero sigue siendo parte de la solución. La idea no es original, importa el modelo europeo Nutri-Score, que lleva años sin adoptarse obligatoriamente en la UE precisamente por sus inconsistencias, como, por ejemplo, clasificar favorablemente a la Coca-Cola Zero. El sistema de clasificación de alimentos más usado es el NOVA, de la Universidad de São Paulo, que divide los alimentos en cuatro grupos según su grado de procesamiento industrial. Los ultraprocesados —refrescos, bollería, snacks, platos precocinados— son el cuarto grupo, caracterizado por procesos como la hidrogenación o la extrusión y por el uso de aditivos. Pero procesar alimentos no es algo moderno ni negativo, la humanidad lo hace desde el Neolítico. Cocinar es procesar. La pasteurización salva vidas, la fermentación tiene miles de años y los alimentos fortificados han eliminado enfermedades como el bocio. Prohibir o estigmatizar el procesamiento podría condenar a millones de personas a la desnutrición. El problema práctico es que los ultraprocesados son un 60% más baratos y resultan indispensables para personas con poco tiempo y recursos limitados. Atacarlos por las buenas nos habla de un elitismo alimentario que ignora la realidad de la mayoría. El verdadero problema es el exceso, no el procesamiento en sí. No existe una forma de legislar sobre esto sin caer en el paternalismo. La guerra que Trump ha desatado contra Irán está pasando una factura política y económica considerable. Aunque la Casa Blanca pide calma, los signos de tensión son evidentes: el conflicto ha cortado entre el 10 y el 15% del suministro mundial de petróleo, disparando con ello los precios de la gasolina y el gasóleo precisamente en los estados que más apoyaron a Trump en 2024. El presidente llegó al poder prometiendo evitar guerras y abaratar la vida «desde el primer día». Romper ambas promesas está erosionando su base electoral, especialmente entre jóvenes e hispanos, que destinan una mayor proporción de sus ingresos al combustible. Los demócratas, entusiasmados, parten como favoritos en varios estados clave de cara a las elecciones de mitad de mandato. Dentro del propio campo conservador crecen las dudas. Trump no consultó a sus aliados antes de actuar, no preparó al país para los riesgos evidentes y ha reemplazado al líder supremo iraní por uno más joven y hostil. Los drones baratos de Teherán siguen amenazando el tráfico marítimo y las instalaciones petrolíferas, y nadie ve una salida sencilla sin comprometer tropas sobre el terreno. Si la guerra se prolonga, el coste político podría ser devastador. Cuba atraviesa la que seguramente sea su peor crisis desde el triunfo de la revolución en 1959. El presidente Miguel Díaz-Canel acaba de confirmar que su gobierno mantiene conversaciones con la administración Trump, algo que habría sido impensable hace apenas unos meses y que revela hasta qué punto el orgullo revolucionario ha sucumbido ante la desesperación económica. El detonante inmediato de la crisis fue la detención de Nicolás Maduro en Caracas el pasado mes de enero. Venezuela era el principal sostén de Cuba. Le suministraba petróleo subvencionado y productos básicos que mantenían a flote una economía ya de por sí maltrecha. Sin ese padrino, y con Estados Unidos bloqueando los envíos de crudo y amenazando con aranceles a cualquier país que los sustituyera, México cortó también el suministro de inmediato. El resultado es que Cuba lleva tres meses sin recibir un solo cargamento de petróleo, lo que se ha traducido en apagones que duran días enteros, hospitales sin actividad, transporte público paralizado y universidades cerradas. Las negociaciones con la Casa Blanca las dirigen Díaz-Canel y Raúl Castro, que con 94 años sigue siendo el verdadero poder en la sombra. Según fuentes cercanas a las conversaciones el nieto de Raúl, Raúl Guillermo Rodríguez Castro, conocido como “El Cangrejo”, se ha reunido con el equipo del secretario de Estado, Marco Rubio, en San Cristóbal y Nieves. Como gesto de buena voluntad, el régimen ha anunciado la liberación de 51 presos, formalmente gracias a una mediación vaticana, aunque todos sabemos por qué han abierto la mano. El castrismo siempre se muestra dispuesto a liberar presos como gesto de buena voluntad porque las cárceles están llenas de ellos, más de un millar hay en estos momentos. Trump, desde una evidente posición de fuerza, ha llegado a plantear abiertamente la posibilidad de hacerse con la isla de grado o por la fuerza. En paralelo el gobierno cubano está dando pasos inconcebibles hasta hace poco como autorizar a empresas privadas a importar combustible. El problema es que las sanciones estadounidenses siguen vigentes y no hay señales de que se vayan a levantar. Entretanto la calle hierve. Las protestas han crecido exponencialmente: de 31 en enero a 130 en la primera quincena de marzo. El episodio más llamativo ocurrió en Morón, donde tras 30 horas sin luz los manifestantes asaltaron la sede local del Partido Comunista y quemaron su mobiliario. El régimen respondió con detenciones y con el habitual recurso retórico de culpar al bloqueo yanqui de todos los males que le aquejan. Parece que por fin estamos presenciando el acto final de una tragedia demasiado larga. Un sistema que expropió, reprimió y empobreció a su pueblo durante más de 60 años negocia ahora desde la debilidad absoluta con la potencia a la que juró enemistad eterna. La pregunta ya no es si el castrismo sobrevivirá, sino cuánto tiempo le queda. Skinner fue mucho más que un psicólogo famoso. Fue el gran arquitecto del conductismo radical, una corriente que cambió para siempre la forma de entender el aprendizaje, la conducta y la relación entre el ser humano y su entorno. Mientras otros buscaban respuestas en la conciencia, en los pensamientos o en los conflictos inconscientes, Skinner fue directo a lo observable: la conducta. Para él, mirar hacia la mente era una distracción; lo importante era estudiar lo que las personas y los animales hacen, y cómo ese comportamiento cambia en función de sus consecuencias. En este episodio exploramos una de sus aportaciones más revolucionarias: el condicionamiento operante. A diferencia del condicionamiento clásico de Pavlov, centrado en reflejos automáticos, Skinner mostró cómo las conductas voluntarias pueden fortalecerse o debilitarse según reciban refuerzos o castigos. Es decir, hacemos más aquello que nos reporta una recompensa, y evitamos aquello que tiene consecuencias desagradables. Una idea aparentemente sencilla, pero con implicaciones enormes para la educación, la crianza, la terapia y la vida cotidiana. También hablamos de la mítica Caja de Skinner, ese ingenioso dispositivo experimental con el que estudió cómo ratas y palomas aprendían nuevas conductas mediante recompensas. Gracias a estos experimentos, Skinner pudo demostrar con enorme precisión cómo se moldea el comportamiento paso a paso. Pero Skinner no fue solo un teórico. Su mente inquieta lo llevó a proyectos tan sorprendentes como el Proyecto Paloma, una iniciativa real para entrenar palomas que guiaran misiles durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Sí, tan extraño como suena. Y no menos ambicioso fue su intento de transformar la enseñanza mediante las llamadas máquinas de enseñar, dispositivos diseñados para ofrecer retroalimentación inmediata y convertir el aprendizaje en un proceso más eficaz. ⚖️ Uno de los momentos más provocadores del episodio llega cuando abordamos su crítica al libre albedrío. En su obra Más allá de la libertad y la dignidad, Skinner defendió que muchas de las ideas que sostenemos sobre la libertad personal y la responsabilidad moral son, en realidad, construcciones engañosas. La estrategia militar de Irán descansa desde hace demasiados años sobre una apuesta un tanto arriesgada: la creencia de que puede controlar cualquier espiral de escalada bélica. Durante casi medio siglo ese cálculo le ha resultado rentable. Desde la toma de rehenes en la embajada estadounidense de Teherán en 1979 hasta la financiación de grupos armados en toda la región, las acciones del régimen nunca habían provocado una respuesta verdaderamente contundente. Hasta ahora. En sus enfrentamientos recientes con Estados Unidos, Irán siempre había optado por una violencia dosificada y de carácter simbólico. Tras el asesinato del general Soleimani en 2020, respondieron con un ataque muy comedido con misiles que, no por casualidad, no causaron víctimas mortales entre los estadounidenses. Igual de calculada fue su respuesta a la Operación “Midnight Hammer” del pasado mes de junio, cuando atacaron la base aérea de Al Udeid en Qatar con el cuidado de no causar daños importantes. El mensaje siempre importaba más que el resultado. Esta vez Irán ha apostado por una estrategia de escalar para luego desescalar que amenaza con volverse en su contra. No solo ha atacado objetivos israelíes y estadounidenses, sino también a países del Golfo con los que mantenía relaciones relativamente cordiales como Omán, Catar o Turquía. Ha ampliado además sus blancos más allá de los objetivos militares para dañar infraestructuras petrolíferas, hoteles y aeropuertos. La lógica iraní es que castigar a los aliados de EEUU presionará a Trump para poner fin a la guerra. Esto es algo que la historia se empeña en desmentir. En 1991 Sadam Husein lanzó misiles Scud contra Israel con la esperanza de romper la coalición liderada por Estados Unidos. No lo consiguió. Más recientemente, las amenazas nucleares de Rusia y sus operaciones encubiertas en Europa no han conseguido detener el apoyo occidental a Ucrania, todo lo contrario, lo han reforzado. La escalada como instrumento de coerción diplomática tiende, sistemáticamente, a producir el efecto contrario al buscado. Las debilidades estructurales de Irán agravan el problema. Su arsenal de misiles, estimado entre 3.000 y 4.000 unidades, puede parecer imponente, pero en un conflicto de alta intensidad se agotaría en menos de dos meses. Su aviación de combate está formada por reliquias como los F-4 de los años sesenta y F-14 de los setenta. Su economía, castigada por una inflación cercana al 50% y un rial que ha perdido el 90% de su valor, difícilmente puede sostener una guerra prolongada. Los expertos más prudentes estiman que Irán podría mantener una guerra convencional al máximo de sus posibilidades durante solo mes y medio. Entretanto, los países atacados, desde Arabia Saudí hasta los Emiratos, tienen más razones para sumarse a la coalición contra Irán que para presionar por un alto el fuego. Y ni Trump ni Netanyahu, ambos con dos elecciones este mismo año, parecen dispuestos a dar marcha atrás. Incluso si el régimen sobreviviese, saldría de esta guerra más pobre, más aislado y más debilitado que nunca. Como dijo el almirante Yamamoto tras el ataque a Pearl Harbor, Irán corre el riesgo de haber despertado a varios gigantes a la vez, pero sin la potencia industrial que tenía Japón en 1941 para apechugar con las consecuencias. Ambitious Addicts welcomes Oklahoma-based Christina Cook back to the show. Christina Cook, a gambler in recovery, created the Broke Girl Society Podcast and online community to help women. Christina retells a bit of the origin story of her recovery as a former problem gambler. Like a lot of people who fall into problem gambling as a vice, Christina speaks about life events such feelings of powerlessness in early childhood and later in adult relationships. "Not feeling like I had control in my life was a big catalyst," she said of gambling. For awhile, gambling became her solution. "Even my own [inner] voice went quiet ... it felt like a sense of peace for awhile." Later in the episode Christina recounts how those early traumas and experience struggling with problem gambling eventually shaped her vision for a women-centered community specializing in gambling recovery. Women were particularly underrepresented in her part of the country, so she saught a way for women to have a forum to connect. The Facebook Group Broke Girl Society has about 3500 members and hosts multiple virtual meetings weekly. Las elecciones autonómicas de Castilla y León de este domingo han dejado unos resultados que confirman algunas previsiones, pero también han deparado notables sorpresas. Con una participación del 65,6%, casi siete puntos más que en 2022, los castellanos y leoneses acudieron a las urnas con más entusiasmo que en la anterior convocatoria. El ganador indiscutible ha sido el PP, que con 33 escaños y el 35,76% de los votos ha mejorado sensiblemente sus resultados de 2022 (31 escaños, 31,43%). Alfonso Fernández Mañueco ha sabido capitalizar la imagen de moderación y gestión sensata presentándose como víctima de la crisis de hace dos años con VOX y no como su causante. A ello se ha sumado la absorción casi total de lo que quedaba de voto de Ciudadanos, que ha certificado su desaparición en Castilla y León al pasar de un escaño a cero, y el retroceso de Soria Ya, que ha perdido dos de sus tres procuradores. Feijóo celebró el resultado ya que, según él, por fin han conseguido frenar el ascenso de Vox. La sorpresa de la noche la protagonizó el PSOE. Con 30 escaños y en torno al 31% de los votos, los socialistas sumaron dos procuradores más que en 2022, lo que rompe su tendencia a la baja en las dos últimas elecciones autonómicas. El mérito es del candidato Carlos Martínez, alcalde de Soria, cuyo perfil alejado de la política nacional le ha permitido desvincularse del desgaste de Sánchez. El partido se benefició además de dos efectos colaterales: la desaparición de Podemos e IU/Sumar de las Cortes, cuyos votantes se han ido en su mayoría al PSOE, y el daño que Se Acabó la Fiesta, el partido de Alvise Pérez, ha infligido a VOX en provincias como Zamora y Segovia, donde les arrebató votos suficientes para que dos escaños acabaran en manos socialistas. VOX, que llegaba con expectativas de superar el 20% de los votos, se quedó en 14 procuradores y el 18,9%, una mejora mínima respecto a 2022, pero, aún así, el mejor resultado de esta formación en toda su historia. El PP supo contener la fuga de voto con un discurso más duro de lo habitual temas migratorios y el partido de Alvise les impidió hacerse con un escaño extra en las provincias pequeñas. Pese al resultado un tanto agridulce, Abascal adelantó futuros pactos con el PP en Castilla y León, Extremadura y Aragón. En el extremo opuesto Podemos se ha hundido en la más absoluta irrelevancia con apenas el 0,74% de los votos, mientras que IU/Sumar se ha quedado en el 2,23% y sin representación parlamentaria. La división en la extrema izquierda ha esterilizado un espacio ya de por sí minoritario en esta región. La mayoría absoluta en las Cortes de Castilla y León está en 42 escaños, por lo que PP y VOX tienen margen suficiente para gobernar con los 47 que han ganado. Mañueco descartó cualquier acuerdo con el PSOE y las negociaciones con VOX comenzarán de inmediato. La incógnita es si esta nueva coalición será más estable que la anterior, que duró apenas dos años. Genetikai mutáció: amikor egy betű megöli az életedet – Dr. Nagy Péter | MÓKA Podcast ep. 306   Mi történik akkor, ha egyetlen betű hibázik az emberi DNS-ben? Speaking of active operations, investigators now think a missile strike on an Iranian girls' school may have been triggered by bad AI-generated intelligence from that same Claude-based system. So yes, the autocomplete that hallucinates your grocery list is also maybe accidentally bombing schools. Meta's Oversight Board is begging the company to get serious about AI-generated content after a fake war video from a Filipino fake news account racked up 700K views — while separately, Zuckerberg dropped cash on Moltbook, a "social network for AI agents" that turned out to be mostly humans larping as bots and had a security flaw that exposed everyone's API keys. The guy who built it basically vibe-coded the whole thing. Meta's own CTO said he didn't "find it particularly interesting." And yet. Oracle is hemorrhaging jobs and drowning in debt chasing AI dreams, its stock down 50% from peak — a timely reminder that "AI will replace workers" is currently manifesting as "companies set money on fire and lay people off to pay the electric bill." Researchers confirmed AI is homogenizing human thought and creativity — a thing some of us have been screaming since day one.
