The Failure of the Hittite Empire: Colleague Eric Cline examines the Hittites, classified as the major failures of the era, explaining that this superpower controlling Anatolia and rivaling Egypt collapsed due to a "perfect storm" of drought, plague, and poor leadership, with their capital Hattusa destroyed and abandoned; however, "Neo-Hittite" rump states in northern Syria such as Carchemish survived as trading hubs for centuries before eventually facing aggression from the rising Neo-Assyrian empire.

Comment la conquête de ce territoire d'Asie du Sud-Est s'est-elle déroulée ?Pour en parler, Virginie Girod reçoit l'historien Alain Ruscio. Join our champion program: mark@themomentumcompany.comAttend a Thriving Leader event: https://www.themomentumcompany.com/thrivingleader2026Instagram: @the.momentum.companyLinkedIn: /momentum-companyIn this episode of the Intentional Agribusiness Leader Podcast, Mark Jewell sits down with Michael Hill, CEO of H&A Farms, a vertically integrated operation in Florida that has transformed the blueberry supply chain. Starting as a fourth-generation farmer with a single employee, Michael now leads the business responsible for packing 40% of Florida's blueberry crop while running thriving agritourism and processing divisions.Michael opens up about the pressures of scaling, surviving pandemic-era uncertainty, finding—and keeping—the right people, and the mindset it takes to grow, diversify, and lead through chaos. His story is a lesson in intentionality, delegation, resilience, and never forgetting the value of your name.Key Takeaways:1. Leadership Starts With Your Word: Intentional leaders don't just tell others what to do—they hold themselves accountable first. Michael reminds us that the most dangerous promises to break are the ones we make to ourselves.2. Delegation Is a Skill — Not a Surrender: From running everything himself in year one to scaling to over 2,000 seasonal workers, Michael learned the hard way that growth depends on your ability to trust others, define responsibility, and let go of control.3. Crisis Reveals Character: During COVID, 98% of Michael's sales evaporated overnight. Instead of shutting down and causing market collapse, he held the line, protected his growers, and managed an unprecedented backlog until demand returned.4. Culture Evolves — But It Must Be Protected: Michael's business outgrew its early “everyone does everything” startup DNA. To evolve, he had to install structures, set standards, and protect culture by removing mediocre players who couldn't or wouldn't keep up.5. Seasonal Ag Labor Is Not for the Faint of Heart: Managing hundreds of local workers and 1,800 H2A harvesters in a seven-week window requires systems, communication, and acceptance that during peak season, work takes over life. Not everyone is built for that kind of leadership—and that's okay.Notable Quotes:“You die with one thing in this world — your name.” – Michael Hill“If I believe I can bet on myself, is it really a risk?” – Michael Hill“Winners want to be around other winners. The mediocre don't.” – Michael Hill“You can't just delegate — you have to put the right people in the right seats.” – Michael Hill“Still being here? That's the win.” – Michael HillAction Steps:Create your own Delegate-to-Elevate grid and get honest about what needs to go.Assess your team: Who's a fit for the mission? Who's just along for the ride?Consider crisis planning: What would you do if 98% of demand stopped overnight?Make one visible choice this week that protects your integrity and leadership reputation.Listen If You Are:Building or scaling an agribusiness from scratchStruggling to delegate or develop leaders around youCurious about blueberries, packing, and agritourism at scaleLeading teams with seasonal or H2A laborLooking for real-world stories of grit, growth, and intentional leadership
I feel pretty well versed when it comes to World War II. I understand fairly well what was happening in Europe at least with Germany and whatnot. I know that the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941 (84 years ago today) was the event that drew the United States into the war. But Pearl Harbor wasn't bombed by Germany. It was bombed by Japan. Wait, what? Japan? What does Japan have to do with Nazi Germany and World War II? This week I sit down with Quin Cho, an expert on the Pacific Theater during World War II, to talk about what was happening in Asia leading up to that fateful attack on Pearl Harbor. He'll fill us in on the rising action, like the Mukden Incident and the Second Sino-Japanese War, that led to the collision of two different war theaters into one big, bad world war. Congress obtaining Jeffrey Epstein's banking records marks one of the most significant breakthroughs in the long-delayed financial side of the investigation. After years of stonewalling, federal agencies and major banks have finally begun turning over detailed transaction histories tied to Epstein's accounts, including those held at JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank. Lawmakers say these records contain years of wire transfers, shell-company activity, large unexplained cash movements, and internal communications about Epstein's status as a client. For the first time, congressional investigators will be able to trace how Epstein moved money, who benefited from those movements, and which institutions looked the other way while red flags piled up.The release of these records also signals a broader shift toward transparency after Congress passed legislation compelling agencies to hand over previously sealed material connected to Epstein and his network. Members of the oversight committees have stated that these financial disclosures could answer long-standing questions about who financially enabled Epstein, who may have participated in or profited from his criminal enterprises, and whether federal regulators failed to act despite knowing the gravity of the allegations. With Congress now in possession of the banking paperwork Epstein fought for decades to keep in the dark, the investigation is expected to accelerate — and the list of individuals and institutions with potential exposure is likely to grow, not shrink.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Lawmakers obtain Epstein banking records, release photos of his private island compound - CBS News
A conversation with Barbara Stollberg-Rilinger, Professor Emerita of Early Modern History at the University of Munster and Rector of the Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin. Germany is becoming increasingly important to this podcast, which is why we're digging into another aspect of this fascinating part of Europe. Dualism and dissolution; between fealty and federation; the unravelling of the Holy Roman Empire and a tumultuous period. All setting the stage for Napoleon Bonaparte...This discussion:- Explores the complexities and contradictions of the Holy Roman Empire in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, including its structure, political dynamics, and the concept of legitimacy.- Discusses the dualism and rivalry between Austria and Prussia, and how their ambitions and actions contributed to the fragmentation and eventual dissolution of the Empire.- Examines the significance of symbolism, rituals, and ceremonies in sustaining imperial power—and the ways these traditional forms were both maintained and undermined in practice.- Looks at cultural and intellectual responses to the era's upheavals, including the reactions of figures like Goethe, Schiller, and Hegel to the French Revolution and emerging German nationalism.- Considers the impact of Napoleon and the mediatisation of the Empire, questioning whether Napoleon was the executioner of the Holy Roman Empire or if its internal weaknesses had already sealed its fate.Help us produce more episodes by supporting the Napoleonic Quarterly on Patreon: patreon.com/napoleonicquarterly

Mr. Beast Biography Flash a weekly Biography. In the past few days Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has been in the news less for a single viral stunt and more for the long term architecture of his empire. TechCrunch reports that his CEO Jeff Housenbold is now openly floating the idea of taking Beast Industries public one day, with the explicit goal of letting fans become owners of the company. That IPO talk is still speculative and no filing has been made, but the fact it is being discussed on the record underscores that MrBeast is now positioning himself less as a lone creator and more as the head of a future consumer entertainment conglomerate. TechCrunch also notes leaked figures, originally reported by Bloomberg, indicating that his Feastables chocolate line has already become more profitable than both his flagship YouTube channel and his Prime Video show Beast Games, a shift that suggests his long term biography may be defined as much by CPG and IP as by YouTube views. At the same time, Donaldson is trying to evolve his philanthropic brand. Fortune and an official announcement from the Rockefeller Foundation both confirm a new strategic partnership between Beast Philanthropy and the 112 year old foundation, aimed at combining his youth reach with their expertise in helping the worlds most vulnerable communities. The Rockefeller Foundation says the collaboration will include joint work in places like Ghana early next year, and Donaldson has been quoted saying he wants their guidance to avoid repeating philanthropy mistakes and to turn his massive, often spectacle driven giving into what he calls real lasting change. Framed biographically, this looks like the opening chapter in a shift from viral charity videos to institutional philanthropy with establishment partners. That Ghana focus also ties into a more public facing, participatory campaign. The 1 Billion Followers Summit has posted terms and conditions for a 1 Billion Acts of Kindness campaign run in collaboration with MrBeast, Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives and the Varkey Foundation. The campaign invites creators worldwide to post videos of acts of kindness with specific hashtags and, for ten selected winners, includes a fully paid trip to the summit and a journey with MrBeast to Ghana to help build a village and appear in his content. The documents make clear this is a formally structured initiative, with content licensing, code of conduct and legal waivers spelled out, which again speaks to how systematized the MrBeast operation has become. On the media side, MrBeast has also just appeared in a long form conversation titled MrBeast on Cracking the Attention Economy, alongside CEO Jeff Housenbold. In that discussion, promoted on YouTube, the pair lay out how they think about attention, business growth and the responsibilities that come with their influence. While not a headline making controversy, it is a notable public appearance because it continues to cement Donaldson as a leading voice on the future of entertainment, not just a practitioner inside it.Meanwhile, storm clouds remain in the background. TechCrunch points out that Beast Industries is still locked in litigation with Virtual Dining Concepts over the collapse of MrBeast Burger, and that lawsuits from contestants on the first season of Beast Games alleging mistreatment and a misogynistic culture are ongoing. In a recent DealBook appearance covered by TechCrunch, Donaldson spoke cautiously about those suits, essentially portraying them as an almost inevitable byproduct of running a 2000 person gameshow, rather than as evidence of systemic failure, a framing that will likely be revisited in any serious biography of his rise. There are, as always, countless unverified rumors swirling on social media about upcoming videos, new Feastables flavors, and a possible second large scale series order from Amazon, but at this stage those remain speculation without confirmation from MrBeast or major outlets.Thank you for listening, and be sure to subscribe so you never miss an update on MrBeast. Cropper spoke with Terry Gross in 1990 about how he became part of the house rhythm section, and went on to help write hits for Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett. Also, we remember the celebrated English playwright Tom Stoppard, who was considered a giant of theatre. He died at age 88. With Congress now in possession of the banking paperwork Epstein fought for decades to keep in the dark, the investigation is expected to accelerate — and the list of individuals and institutions with potential exposure is likely to grow, not shrink.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.comsource:Lawmakers obtain Epstein banking records, release photos of his private island compound - CBS NewsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-epstein-chronicles--5003294/support.

Feminism's Empire (Cornell UP, 2022) investigates the complex relationships between imperialisms and feminisms in the late nineteenth century and demonstrates the challenge of conceptualizing "pro-imperialist" and "anti-imperialist" as binary positions. By intellectually and spatially tracing the era's first French feminists' engagement with empire, Carolyn J. Eichner explores how feminists opposed—yet employed—approaches to empire in writing, speaking, and publishing. In differing ways, they ultimately tied forms of imperialism to gender liberation. Among the era's first anti-imperialists, French feminists were enmeshed in the hierarchies and epistemologies of empire. They likened their gender-based marginalization to imperialist oppressions. Imperialism and colonialism's gendered and sexualized racial hierarchies established categories of inclusion and exclusion that rested in both universalism and ideas of "nature" that presented colonized people with theoretical, yet impossible, paths to integration. Feminists faced similar barriers to full incorporation due to the gendered contradictions inherent in universalism. The system presumed citizenship to be male and thus positioned women as outsiders. Feminism's Empire connects this critical struggle to hierarchical power shifts in racial and national status that created uneasy linkages between French feminists and imperial authorities. Dr. Carolyn J. Eichner about is a Professor of History and Women's and Gender Studies at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. Feminism's Empire is her third book. Surmounting the Barricades: Women in the Paris Commune came out in 2004 and The Paris Commune: A Brief History came out in 2022. Surmounting the Barricades: Women in the Paris Commune was published in French as Franchir les barricades: les femmes dans la Commune de Paris (Éditions de la Sorbonne, 2020). Translated by Bastien Craipain, it was a finalist for the Prix Augustin Thierry in 2021, an award from the city of Paris for a historical study concerning the period between Antiquity and the late 19th century. In 2022-2023 she will be a Fulbright Research scholar in France and will be in residence at the Camargo Foundation in Cassis. Michael G. Vann is a professor of world history at California State University, Sacramento. A specialist in imperialism and the Cold War in Southeast Asia, he is the author of The Great Hanoi Rat Hunt: Empires, Disease, and Modernity in French Colonial Vietnam (Oxford University Press, 2018). Don't Kill the Messenger with movie research expert Kevin Goetz
Send Kevin a Text MessageIn this episode of Don't Kill the Messenger, host Kevin Goetz sits down with legendary producer and entertainment executive Suzanne de Passe. From championing the Jackson 5 early in their career to producing Emmy Award–winning miniseries like Lonesome Dove, Suzanne's career is defined by vision, talent recognition, and breaking barriers in Hollywood. An Eclectic, Wonderful Childhood (02:16) Suzanne describes growing up in Harlem, attending the progressive private school New Lincoln, and spending summers in Martha's Vineyard.Suzanne's Superpower (12:46) Suzanne talks about her greatest talent: recognizing the talent of others and knowing what to do with it.The Meeting That Changed Everything (16:22) Through her friendship with Cindy Birdsong of The Supremes, Suzanne met Berry Gordy in 1967, a moment that changed her life forever."One Day, That's Gonna Be Me" (21:19) Standing under the Essex House sign, watching Diana Ross depart in one limo, and the other Supremes in another, Suzanne had a realization: she wanted to be a part of that world.Championing The Jackson 5 (31:39) When Bobby Taylor invited her to hear a young group of brothers sing four songs a cappella, “the hair on the back of my neck flew up,” Suzanne recalls. Despite Barry Gordy's initial resistance to signing another kid act, her relentless advocacy is what finally got the Jackson 5 their Motown audition.Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction (38:04) In 2024, Suzanne was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the Ahmet Ertegun Award, the fifth woman and the first solo living female recipient among male legends.Lonesome Dove (40:28) After optioning Larry McMurtry's unpublished novel for $50,000, Swifty Lazar called with news: it had won the Pulitzer Prize. The resulting CBS miniseries was nominated for 19 Emmys, won 11, and received a Golden Globe and a Peabody Award.Immortal Studio: The Next Chapter (51:17) Suzanne has launched the production company Immortal Studio with partners Madison Jones, Cory Martin, and investor Yang Ben Wang. Focused on premium television, the company already has full seasons scripted and is built to be nimble, artist-friendly, and protective of creative vision — avoiding the industry's usual “fingerprinting process,” where too many people try to leave their mark.Suzanne de Passe demonstrates that recognizing talent, whether in five kids singing a capella or an unpublished western novel, combined with persistence and vision, can build an entertainment legacy that spans decades.Host: Kevin GoetzGuest: Suzanne de PasseProducer: Kari CampanoWriters: Kevin Goetz, Darlene Hayman, and Kari CampanoAudio Engineer: Gary Forbes (DG Entertainment)For more information about Suzanne de Passe:Wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suzanne_de_PasseIMDB:https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0210867/Rock and Roll Hall of Fame:For more information about Kevin Goetz:- Website: www.KevinGoetz360.com- Audienceology Book: https://www.simonandschuster.com/books/Audience-ology/Kevin-Goetz/9781982186678- How to Score in Hollywood: https://www.amazon.com/How-Score-Hollywood-Secrets-Business/dp/198218986X/- Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, Substack: @KevinGoetz360- LinkedIn @Kevin Goetz- Screen Engine/ASI Website: www.ScreenEngineASI.com
Mark Kelly and other former military and intelligence community members now in Congress posted a video calling on active service members to refuse illegal orders. This happened while the Trump administration contines to strike alleged “drug boats” in the Caribbean and the Pacific. At the same time, a former Afghan child soldier shot two members of the West Virginia National Guard at a metro station in Washington DC. The shooter had been part of a “Zero Unit”, an Afghan death squad, that was backed by the Central Intelligence Agency. These incidents show the tension building between military-civilian-intelligence agency relations. In our latest, we dive deep into the conflict between Senator Mark Kelly and the Trump administration. We also discuss Hegseth's war on the Pentagon and how war crimes against people off the coasts of Venezuela and Colombia. And then we get into the background of the DC shooter and the blowback created by CIA backed militias in Afghanistan. Please listen in to this important discussion about U.S. military-civilian relations. -----------------------------------------
