In this episode of The Tech Leader's Playbook, Avetis Antaplyan sits down with Michelle Niemeyer, a former high-powered attorney turned burnout expert, certified health coach, and creator of The Art of Bending Time. With 33 years in law and a personal journey of reinvention, Michelle shares her path from the pressures of litigation and entrepreneurship to becoming a sought-after advisor on sustainable leadership and resilience. The conversation dives into the pitfalls of chasing “work-life balance,” why multitasking drains focus, and how leaders can prevent burnout by fueling themselves physically, mentally, and emotionally. Michelle explains how her health challenges and professional burnout led her to develop frameworks that help leaders align their goals with what truly lights them up. From her innovative SWORD analysis for goal setting, to practical strategies for reclaiming focus and accepting help, Michelle offers actionable insights that challenge traditional productivity thinking.Leaders will come away with fresh perspectives on integrating personal and professional life, the hidden costs of micromanagement, and why bending time isn't about managing minutes, but about living with purpose, clarity, and energy.TakeawaysBurnout often stems from chasing “work-life balance,” which can separate people from their whole selves.Leaders thrive when they integrate passions and strengths from different areas of life into their work.True productivity requires physical and mental health: quality sleep, nutrition, and consistent movement. The lymphatic system depends on physical activity — sitting too long allows toxins to build up.“Bending time” means focusing on what fuels you rather than squeezing more hours out of the day.Multitasking is a myth — it decreases focus, increases mistakes, and prolongs tasks.Removing notifications and delegating tasks clears mental space for deep, high-value work.Leaders must avoid micromanagement and trust their teams to develop and excel. The SWORD analysis (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, risks, and desire) emphasizes whether goals are truly worth pursuing.Accepting help is not a weakness; it builds connection and accelerates progress.Personal and professional networks can be blended intentionally to open new opportunities.Micro-moments of joy — a walk, a cup of coffee, or celebrating small wins — can prevent burnout more than long vacations.Chapters00:00 The myth of work-life balance00:39 Introducing Michelle Niemeyer: From law to burnout coach02:21 Early career in law and frustrations with the system04:34 Burnout and the dangers of “work-life balance”07:57 Bringing your whole self into work and life09:31 Health coaching, lifestyle changes, and the lymphatic system11:34 Discovering autoimmune disease and the shift to health coaching15:44 Creating The Art of Bending Time framework19:34 Micromanagement, delegation, and team empowerment22:10 Why notifications and constant availability hurt focus27:02 Rituals for winding down and mental clarity29:54 Clarity, joy, and finding sparks in daily life31:19 SWORD analysis explained and the role of desire35:11 Letting go of outdated or inherited goals38:44 Blending personal and professional networks43:05 The importance of asking for and accepting help49:48 Leadership, teamwork, and accountability50:56 Michelle's favorite book and final reflections52:15 The power of daily sparks and micro-moments of joy56:28 Closing thoughts and community resourcesMichelle Niemeyer's Social Media Links:https://www.instagram.com/michelle_niemeyer_wellness/Michelle Niemeyer's Website:https://www.michelleniemeyer.com/Resources and Links:https://www.hireclout.comhttps://www.podcast.hireclout.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/hirefasthireright

In this enlightening episode of "Father and Joe", hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey delve into the pervasive issue of distractions that challenge our personal focus and spiritual growth in today's hyper-connected world. They explore how instant accessibility, through technology like smartphones and emails, has amplified our vulnerability to constant disruptions, pulling us away from our primary goals and weakening our relationships with ourselves, others, and God.Joe candidly shares a recent personal moment of distraction and links it to a broader cultural challenge where algorithms are designed to capture and fragment our attention. Father Boniface highlights the resulting context switching and energy loss, emphasizing the need for discipline and careful management of our task loads to maintain harmony and efficiency in both professional and personal spheres. The conversation then shifts to the deeper, often overlooked aspect of spiritual connection. Unlike the persistent pings from our digital devices, God's call is subtler, requiring intentional effort to hear amidst the noise. They discuss how cultivating a habit of unplugging from distractions can enhance our ability to listen to God and fortify our spiritual relationship. This episode illustrates how reordering our focus toward God not only enriches personal spirituality but also simplifies our lives, leading to more genuine, meaningful relationships with others.Father Boniface further enlightens us on how aligning ourselves with God's moral law serves as a loud guiding voice, akin to the orchestral harmony that can heal dissonance within our lives. By tuning into God's melody through disciplined practice and conscious effort, where minor virtues like integrity and love can echo through actions even in business practices, we can transform chaos into divine symphony. This episode is a call to action for listeners to embrace the challenge of reducing distractions and deepening their bond with the divine. Embrace the "risk" of living like Christ, they urge, with the promise of discovering a life full of realigned priorities, coherent relationships, and newfound peace.Join Father and Joe as they invite us all to explore the profound benefits of retuning the spiritual strings of our lives to align with the greater symphony that God orchestrates every day.Tags:spiritual growth, God, relationship with God, distractions, technology, focus, discipline, spirituality, personal growth, mindfulness, harmony, technology impact, digital detox, soul care, spiritual awakening, podcast, conversation, Father Boniface, Joe Rockey, daily life, union with God, church habits, modern challenges, divine guidance, mental clarity, inner peace, faith-based, Christian podcast, moral law, conscience, life balance, spiritual priorities, self-improvement, finding peace, life direction, personal development, faith journey, Christian life, God's will, multitasking, simplicity, sacred listening, authenticity, divine orderHashtags:#SpiritualGrowth, #RelationshipWithGod, #OvercomingDistractions, #FocusOnFaith, #Mindfulness, #GodFirst, #ChristianPodcast, #FaithJourney, #FaithBased, #DigitalDetox, #SoulCare, #InnerPeace, #SpiritualAwakening, #GodsWill, #LifeBalance, #FindingHarmony, #ModernChallenges, #DailyLife, #SelfImprovement, #SpiritualDirection, #FaithInFocus, #Simplicity, #SacredListening, #ChristianLife, #LifeDirection, #SoulGrowth, #DivineGuidance, #TechnologyImpact, #Multitasking, #ChristianFaith, #SpiritualPodcast, #MindfulLiving, #AuthenticFaith, #FindingPeace, #LifePurpose, #Clarity, #FaithCommunity, #LifeGoals, #FaithfulLivingThis line is here to correct the site's formatting error.

What Kids Say about Social Media and Productivity

Late last year, the Pew Research Center conducted a survey of almost fourteen hundred teens, ages thirteen to seventeen, to come to an understanding of our teenagers' experiences and attitudes around social media and their mental health. One of the most interesting findings is that after all these years of adults noticing the drop in kids' productivity due to so much time spent on social media, the kids are now beginning to realize this themselves. Four out of ten thirteen to seventeen year olds say that social media platforms hurt their productivity. This makes sense as we know that social media is distracting, with notifications interrupting whatever it might be that our attention should be focused on. In the past, research has shown that the human mind can not multi-task with optimal productivity for either task. Teach your kids to focus their minds on the task at hand, putting their phones aside so they might do their best at whatever it is, all to the glory of God.

This week on So What Now, we unpack a viral TikTok that challenges the usual checklist for choosing a partner. Sure, faith, finances, and fitness are great—but what about the ability to suffer well? Life will get messy, and having someone who doesn't fall apart in the chaos might just be the most underrated trait of all. Dex keeps it real and admits she's not built for bedside caregiving—she'll cut the check, but don't look for soup and soft words. And if she ever becomes the one in need? Her motto is simple: just take her out! Things take a turn when we discuss the woman who found out her husband's ex hacked their home security system and watched over 44,000 minutes of footage. Dex is baffled at how anyone has that kind of time, while Carla confesses she might've been one click away from doing the same. We also tap into the rising trend of “poly-working”—people holding down two full-time jobs, often powered by AI. Carla's here for it (shoutout to her ADHD superpowers), but Dex is barely making it through one job. Speaking of jobs, Carla shares a little about her short-lived corporate career and the moment it ended with a good ol' fashioned workplace fight. Yes, hands were thrown. You definitely want to hear this one. CONNECT WITH US ON SOCIAL MEDIA: CARLA WILMARIS | DEX

I talk about the ways we've been conditioned to put ourselves last, the mental load of multitasking, and how easy it is to lose sight of who we are underneath the caregiving, career-building, and people-pleasing.We'll dig into the fear of being judged, the guilt of wanting more, and the quiet, powerful decision to stop abandoning ourselves. I also share practical ways to start prioritizing your own goals again—and how doing so can be the boldest, most beautiful example you set for your kids, your friends, and your future self.If you've ever felt like you're cheering everyone else on but holding yourself back, this one's for you. Let's talk about how to reclaim our voice, our time, and our vision—together.

MaximizeYourInfluence.com  Discover the Shocking Truth: How Multitasking is Sabotaging Your Influence and Crushing Your Productivity Imagine this: You're juggling emails, a Zoom call, and that "quick" social media scroll—all while convincing yourself you're a productivity powerhouse. But what if I told you this habit destroys your ability to influence and manage your time. For years, we've been sold the lie that multitasking is the key to getting more done. But cutting-edge studies from 2023 to 2025 paint a starkly different picture: multitasking doesn't boost efficiency—it destroys it through "task-switching," where your brain bounces between tasks, racking up hidden cognitive costs like slower performance, more errors, and exhausting mental fatigue. Think your brain is wired for parallel processing? Think again. Neuroscience reveals that we can only truly handle one complex task at a time; overloading the prefrontal cortex leads to poorer results across the board. A productivity analysis estimating that each task switch wastes anywhere from 10 minutes to a staggering 2 hours as your brain reorients itself. Persuade With Power Kurt Mortensen

Multitasking, or the art of juggling several tasks at once, is more common than ever before in the workplace. In 2022, a German think tank called Next Work Innovation released a study which showed that knowledge workers are interrupted on average every four minutes during the working day! In a past episode of Do You Really Know, we discussed how our brains manage to cope with multiple demands at once. Suffice to say: it's not easy! It can be really tricky to focus again after a distraction, and many workers believe interruptions negatively impact their productivity and well-being at work.  Why is it so important to know how to say no then? How can I learn to say no then? What if saying no is just too difficult? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions! But in reality, multitasking isn't doing two things at once—it's rapid task-switching. And every switch comes with a cost.In this episode of The Workplace Chameleon, Dr. Celina Peerman unpacks why the myth of multitasking persists and what it's really costing leaders, teams, and organizations. From the illusion of productivity to cultural pressure to “always be on,” Dr. Celina explores why so many of us fall for multitasking and why it leaves us drained, error-prone, and spinning in shallow work.

Edith Targonski arrived to the United States from Peru when she was 19 years old. Her sister had arrived a few years before and she was so happy about being reunited with her, but unhappy to speak English. She had visited the U.S. numerous times prior to her move but didn't know much English and lacked confidence in her speaking skills. She soon met a fellow immigrant from Poland, who arrived at 17 years old with his parents. They fell in love and got married. Edith and her husband created a beautiful family blending and honoring their individual cultures from South America and Poland, while building their own family traditions. They learned English and raised their children in an English speaking household but also exposed their children to Spanish and Polish for them to have the opportunity to communicate with their grandparents and broaden their horizons. Since arriving twenty seven years ago, Edith has been very motivated to learn, grow her career and serve the community. She earned a special education degree from Sacred Heart Univ, and was an effective classroom teacher for many years. Currently, she serves as a passionate advocate for families who have children with special needs. She is a business development consultant. She has been a dedicated volunteer to many organizations, giving credit to her father for her need to give back and learning this from watching him. She has graduated about 9 senior citizens who have achieved citizenship under her tutelage at the Stamford Senior Center. It is available in both English and Spanish and is a free publication and available online. Like many other guests on the podcast, she was enrolled in the PLTI (Parent Leadership Training Institute). She has been a facilitator for People Empowering People-PEP and currently serves on the Design Team. In addition, she serves on numerous other boards in the community, all of them serving the immigrant and Latin communities in different ways, while raising her 3 children to be passionate, giving and kind people.

Ep. 186 (Part 2 of 2) | In this lively, mind and heart-opening conversation, Miranda Macpherson, contemporary spiritual teacher and author, shares the extraordinary wisdom she has gained from experience—both from the initial life-changing transmission of boundless love she received in Ramana Maharshi's cave, and from the subsequent need for integration of the deeper truths that were revealed upon being called back “down the mountain,” back to the West to teach and serve. For her, the trick of navigating ordinary life without reconstructing an ego boiled down to three words: What's needed now? Miranda discusses how to show up in the world of today and not let resistance to right action win. “Wake up and love,” she offers. “Take inventory, ask, is there anything in the way of me being openhearted and awake in this moment?” She explains a practice she developed called ego relaxation, emphasizes the power of devotion—the source of strength, love, courage, and motivation—and shares several of the key questions she asks herself in her own practice to keep her receptive to existential grace. Miranda's inspiring teachings are infused with her foundational sense of divine benevolence; “Grace is alive!” she tells us. And being human, we can embody grace; we can become “grace delivery devices.” Recorded November 1, 2024.“Being human is a grace delivery device.”Topics & Time Stamps – Part 2After the ascent the descent; "coming down the mountain" (01:28)The power of devotion (04:12)A mantra carries with it the love, spiritual energy, and devotion of countless beings before us (06:28)The power of pilgrimages (08:58)Miranda's practice now: Can I open my heart to all the suffering, let it be understood more completely, and be transformed? It's a fresh perspective that gives us the opportunity to reconsider the lessons that might be behind this pivotal story.Episode Highlights:[00:45] The Triumvirate[03:09] The Forbidden Fruit[06:17] Can You Surprise the Omniscient?[09:33] Breaking Symmetry with Turiya[13:28] Sophistication and Multitasking[17:37] Restoring Contact with Cosmic Intelligence[21:58] The Kingdom of Heaven is Within[25:06] The Radical Effect of Learning Vedic MeditationUseful Linksinfo@thomknoles.com https://thomknoles.com/https://www.instagram.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.facebook.com/thethomknoleshttps://www.youtube.com/c/thomknoleshttps://thomknoles.com/ask-thom-anything/

Do you ever feel like life is one big race—and you're not sure who signed you up for it?  On this lively episode, Rebecca and Seth Greene pull back the curtain on why so many of us are always rushing around (spoiler: it's not just you, and it's not just moms!). They share real-life stories, relatable struggles, and hard-earned wisdom for anyone desperate to slow down, set better boundaries, and actually enjoy the ride—even if the weeds in your backyard are winning. 5 Key Takeaways: ➔ Notice your triggers: Identify what sets off your rushing—morning chaos, deadlines, or your own high expectations. ➔ Set boundaries and say no: You can't do it all. Get comfortable with setting limits, even if your calendar protests. ➔ Anchor yourself with mindful breaks: Use simple pauses like breathing at red lights, enjoying lunch, or clarity breaks to slow your pace. ➔ Focus on one thing at a time: Multitasking may feel productive, but single-tasking leads to less stress and better results. ➔ Shift your time mindset: Remind yourself you have enough time for what matters. The kitchen doesn't need to be spotless every night, and the world won't end if your to-do list rolls over to tomorrow. Favorite Quote: “If I look at time differently, I'm not going to feel so rushed through my day.” — Rebecca Greene Listen & Connect: Catch all episodes and resources at whinypaluza.com. Modern work culture rewards busyness, but often at the cost of clarity and peace of mind. Trying to juggle everything—Slack pings, emails, meetings, personal errands—can leave you feeling like you're always behind, even when you're technically getting things done. That constant pressure eats away at focus, making deep work feel impossible and quiet moments feel like a luxury. Multitasking promises efficiency, but more often it just blurs the line between being productive and being burnt out. Over time, it becomes hard to remember what it's like to move through a day without feeling pulled in every direction. Tara Nylese blends science and mindfulness to help people reclaim focus in a distracted world. Once a corporate leader under constant pressure, she now teaches practical methods to reduce stress and improve clarity. Her 10 Minute Mindfulness program shows that a few intentional moments a day can make a real difference. Today, she shares how simple breathing and awareness techniques can boost productivity and mental health at work. For her, you don't need hours—just a few focused minutes to reset and refocus. If you're wondering how creators are really making money online in 2025—beyond the hype, the hustle, and the ever-changing algorithms—this episode is for you. I'm pulling back the curtain on the top three ways I've consistently earned income from my creative business, and I'm also sharing three things I'll never do again. Whether you're just getting started or trying to scale, I hope this gives you a dose of clarity (and maybe a nudge of encouragement, too). https://creativesonfirepodcast.com/episode198 Hosting a Quarterly Online Event That Leads to a Membership Hands down, one of the most successful strategies I've used is hosting virtual events that funnel into a membership. It started as a fun way to bring people together around a shared interest, but it quickly became a reliable system for launching and growing a loyal community. Quarterly events bring urgency and energy. They give people a reason to show up, engage, and—most importantly—take action. When your event naturally leads into a membership or recurring offer, it removes the awkward sales pitch and feels like the next logical step. Tip: If you're considering this model, focus on serving first. Create something fun, helpful, and highly relevant to your audience—and the right people will want to stick around for more. Consistent Monthly Brand Deal Partnerships One-off sponsorships are fine, but long-term brand partnerships are where the magic happens. Not only do they provide steady, predictable income, but they also allow you to go deeper with your audience while staying in alignment with your values. I've learned that you don't need to say yes to everything—in fact, you shouldn't. Choose partnerships that genuinely make sense for your brand. The right deals feel like collaborations, not compromises. Tip: Once you've found your rhythm, pitch brands you already love and use. Consistency builds trust, and trust builds income. Blogging Ad Revenue Let's not underestimate the power of your blog. Even today, blogging is still one of the best ways to create evergreen, scalable income through ad revenue. It didn't happen overnight. I had to stay consistent with posting, learn SEO, and be patient with the process. But now? My blog works for me, even when I'm not working on it. If you're sitting on a blog that's been collecting digital dust, this is your sign to dust it off and get back to creating. What I'd Never Do Again Every lesson comes with a story. Here are three money-making tactics I've tried that I wouldn't repeat: 1. Accept Free Product Instead of Pay Unless the product is truly life-changing (think: dream vacation, high-end tech, or something you'd genuinely invest in), don't trade your time and energy for “exposure” or free stuff. Your skills have value. Your time is money. 2. Try to Monetize Everything at Once I used to believe that doing all the things would lead to faster growth. In reality, it led to burnout and half-finished projects. Now I focus on one stream until it runs smoothly, then move on to the next. Focus leads to income. Multitasking leads to overwhelm. 3. Depend on Social Media for Income Social media is a tool, not the foundation. It's unpredictable, exhausting, and entirely out of your control. These days, I use social platforms to direct people to where the real magic happens—my email list, blog, podcast, and products. Final Thoughts The best way to make money online isn't the trendiest or flashiest—it's the most sustainable. For me, that's looked like building systems, leaning into consistency, and choosing depth over distraction. Which one of these income streams are you focused on right now?
