Send us a textWhat if the secret to great parenting wasn't found in perfect discipline strategies or elaborate educational plans, but in simply showing up? Tyler White, BDR with Akkodis and host of the Timeout with Leaders podcast, brings a refreshingly authentic perspective to fatherhood that will make you rethink your approach to family leadership.Growing up as the son of a high school football coach, Tyler learned early that commitments weren't optional—they were sacred. "The word commitment was like the real C-word in my family," he shares with a laugh. This foundation shaped him profoundly, but it's his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Ella who's teaching him the most valuable lessons now. Watching her play with zero expectations has awakened his inner child and reminded him that sometimes the best leadership happens when we let go of control. The conversation takes powerful turns as Tyler recounts meeting his wife in sixth-grade church group, losing touch for twenty years, and then reconnecting through Facebook to build a beautiful family together. He vulnerably shares his growth areas as a dad, particularly in fully appreciating the challenges his wife faces as a stay-at-home mom. "Really understanding how much effort and energy that takes out of somebody and always remembering that," he reflects, is his ongoing work.Perhaps most compelling is Tyler's story about learning service from a colleague who drove twenty hours to help someone move without seeking recognition. "When you tell people about your serving, the grace is gone," the colleague explained—a principle that transformed Tyler's approach to both business and fatherhood. His three guiding principles—show up consistently, serve without expectations, and don't take yourself too seriously—offer a powerful framework for any dad looking to strengthen their family leadership.Whether you're a new father finding your footing or a seasoned dad seeking renewed purpose, this conversation will inspire you to embrace the joy of fatherhood without the pressure of perfection. 'A very dangerous gamble': Netanyahu's open clash with IDF leaders over invading Gaza City

    Haaretz Weekly

The Israeli public is “exhausted” by the nearly two-year conflict in Gaza, and the vast majority of IDF military leaders believe it should end. Yet Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is forging ahead with his plan to invade Gaza City and expand the war because “he will do whatever he can to stay in power,” said Haaretz senior security analyst Amos Harel, speaking on the Haaretz Podcast. IDF brass, led by chief of staff Eyal Zamir, is attempting to convince Netanyahu for a more limited siege on Gaza City. Still, the message from Netanyahu has been that “he is calling the shots, and the army’s job is to follow orders and prepare to invade Gaza City,” despite the danger that would pose to Israeli hostages being held in the area. Whether or not a full-on operation will eventually happen primarily depends on U.S. President Donald Trump, who, Harel says, is the only one who could push Netanyahu off course, but does not appear to be doing so – for now. “At one point or another, I think the president will be fed up, because there's no victory in sight in Gaza. The suffering continues, and he keeps facing questions from within, including from Republicans, regarding where this is going and why Americans are contributing to this suffering. I don't think that Netanyahu has all the time in the world.” Regarding the hostages, Harel confessed that he struggles to believe that “an Israeli prime minister would just desert them to their death and leave them to die in the tunnels. And yet the signs are there.” Read more from Amos Harel: First Eyal Zamir, Then Gaza City: Defense Minister Katz Targets IDF Chief of Staff Amid Unpopular Offensive Netanyahu Struggles to Sell His Plan to Conquer Gaza as Allies Openly Call for Sacrificing Hostages Despite What Netanyahu Wants You to Think, an Israeli Conquest of Gaza Remains Far OffSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

In an industry where technology often takes the spotlight, Deidre Diamond, Founder and CEO of CyberSN, and Carraig Stanwyck, CEO and former Fortune 200 CISO, are making the case for a shift in focus—one where people, not just tools, drive operational success.Deidre's journey began in cyber talent matching, where she saw firsthand the persistent workforce challenges organizations face—burnout, retention struggles, and a lack of career planning. These challenges inspired the creation of a workforce risk management practice designed to quantify and address the human side of cybersecurity. The approach goes beyond staffing—it maps skills, capabilities, and job alignment in real time, enabling leaders to strategically plan their workforce instead of reacting to turnover.Carraig's perspective as a leader building teams across government, startup, and enterprise environments reinforces the message: “If you get the people right, everything else comes together.” Even leaders already committed to employee engagement often lack the visibility to fully understand capability gaps, skill utilization, and role misalignment. Carraig describes how moving from static spreadsheets to a dynamic platform revealed hidden opportunities—such as repositioning talent into roles that better matched their strengths—while also giving executives a clear capability-to-staffing view. This real-time insight changes everything. Leaders can create accurate job descriptions based on actual needs, build stronger business cases for budgets, and proactively plan for growth. The results aren't just operational—employees feel invested in, leading to greater fulfillment, better retention, and improved professional efficacy. Both Deidre and Carraig emphasize that this approach isn't just about solving today's staffing needs. It's about preparing for a future where emotional intelligence, creative collaboration, and adaptability will be more critical than ever. As AI takes on repeatable tasks, the human ability to think strategically, work cohesively, and innovate will define success. The takeaway is clear: cybersecurity's greatest asset isn't a piece of technology—it's a workforce that's understood, empowered, and aligned with the mission.Learn more about CyberSN: https://itspm.ag/cybersn-476941Note: This story contains promotional content. Learn more.Guests:Deidre Diamond, Founder and CEO of CyberSN | On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/deidrediamond/Carraig Stanwyck, CEO at 3 Tree Tech and former Fortune 200 CISO | On LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/carraig-stanwyck/ResourcesLearn more and catch more stories from CyberSN: https://www.itspmagazine.com/directory/cybersnLearn more about ITSPmagazine Brand Story Podcasts: https://www.itspmagazine.com/purchase-programsNewsletter Archive: https://www.linkedin.com/newsletters/tune-into-the-latest-podcasts-7109347022809309184/Business Newsletter Signup: https://www.itspmagazine.com/itspmagazine-business-updates-sign-upAre you interested in telling your story?https://www.itspmagazine.com/telling-your-storyKeywords: marco ciappelli, deidre diamond, carraig stanwyck, cybersecurity, workforce management, talent retention, job descriptions, skills gap, leadership, employee engagement, career development, black hat, black hat usa, black hat 2025, workforce risk management

Feeling overwhelmed by the complexities of leadership today? Tune in to learn how building your self-regulation can help you navigate dysregulated times and have more effective conversations. In this episode, my co-host Jenn David-Lang and I had the pleasure of speaking with the amazing Jennifer Abrams, whom I see as a guru of interpersonal relations in education. Jennifer, a full-time international consultant and author of impactful books like Having Hard Conversations and Stretching Your Learning Edge: Growing (up) at Work, joined us to explore the critical topic of self-regulation in dysregulated times. We talked about living in a VUKA world, Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous, and how we need to build complexity fitness by developing our cognitive, emotional, and psychological skills. Jennifer shared that becoming more self-regulated involves building self-awareness, like cleaning up our emotional "dust". It turns out only about 10-15% of people are truly self-aware, and one way to improve is by bravely asking for 360 feedback from your team. We also dove into practical skills for leaders navigating challenging moments, such as learning to suspend certainty that your way is the only way. Saying "Tell me more" instead of reacting can be incredibly powerful. For extroverts like me, focusing on listening instead of jumping in is key. I shared my favorite tactic when someone is stressed: asking, "How long do we have to make this decision?". This simple question helps shift from feeling "subject" to circumstances to viewing them more "objectively". Jennifer left us with powerful parting advice: "Go have humane, growth-producing conversations. That's the goal.". Jim Geraghty is back! Join Jim and Greg on today's 3 Martini Lunch as they break down the collapse of a government-funded grocery store in Kansas City, the global rush to wrongly blame Israel for Gaza's food crisis, and a proven solution to Washington, D.C.'s violent crime problem.First, they chronicle the closing of a Kansas City grocery store that received $18 million in local government funding overits seven-year existence. Empty shelves, poor maintenance, and a dangerous neighborhood were constant problems. And New York City voters would wise to learn now that government-run grocery stories do not work.Next, they dig into the widespread condemnation of Israel over Gaza's hunger crisis. Leftists like Sen. Bernie Sanders say this is 100 percent Israel's fault and Hamas deserves no blame. Jim and Greg explain how Hamas is very much to blame and Jim also points out how the media have no interest in far worse famines in other parts of the world. Finally, they react to the Washington, D.C. police chief's surprising unfamiliarity with the concept of a chain of command. As for Trump's recent actions, Jim hopes they improve the quality of life in the nation's capital, but he does not see them as a permanent solution. He says there is a proven method to drastically reducing violent crime, but we need city officials who actually want to do it.Please visit our great sponsors:Sleep on an award-winning mattress from Brooklyn Bedding. From "Bloody Sunday" to Modern Activism: Civil Rights Leaders Reflect on LegacyThis show is made possible thanks our members! To become a sustaining member go to https://LauraFlanders.org/donate   Thank you for your continued support!Description: 60 years ago in Selma, Alabama, state troopers beat peaceful protesters bloody on the Edmund Pettus Bridge as they marched for civil rights. The horror of “Bloody Sunday” and the resilience of the Civil Rights Movement ultimately led to the passage of the 1965 Voting Rights Act and many of the landmark achievements that are now directly under attack. As civil rights activists look to history to understand — and prepare for — the present, Laura walks the Bridge and talks with, among others, Sheyann Webb Christburg, who marched at the age of eight, Black Voters Matter co-founders LaTosha Brown and Clifford Albright; law professor and author Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw and Maya Wiley, President and CEO of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights. What does people power look like today? Plus, a commentary from Laura on name calling then and now.“We're not going to phone bank our way out of this. We're not going to text our way out of this. And in truth, we're not even going to vote our way out of this . . . It's going to take revisiting some of the same strategies that we saw here in Selma, in terms of nonviolent civil disobedience and direct action.” - Clifford Albright“When we see and hear and think about fascism, we think about anti-democratic movements in Europe. We think about the Holocaust . . . But for Black people, as Langston Hughes said, you don't have to explain to us what fascism is. We experienced it. That is what we were fighting, for the 60, 70 years after Reconstruction was overthrown.” - Kimberlé CrenshawGuests:• Clifford Albright: Co-Founder & Executive Director, Black Voters Matter• Willard and Kiba Armstead: Veteran & Spouse• Trayvon Bossa: Sigma Chapter Member, Miles College Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity• LaTosha Brown: Co-Founder, Black Voters Matter• Kimberlé Williams Crenshaw: Co-Founder & Executive Director, African American Policy Forum; Host of the Intersectionality Matters! What if the key to stronger leadership wasn't solving every problem—but knowing which ones to let burn? In this episode of Bridging the Gap, host Todd Weyandt explores the path from overwhelm to order with actionable leadership strategies tailored for the construction industry. Learn why joy requires intentional perspective, how to delegate effectively by “letting the fires burn,” and why clarity and structure are the ultimate antidotes to chaos. Discover the principles behind building a succession-worthy business that can grow without you, the role of scheduling in defending against disorder, and how to engage the next generation of leaders. This conversation unpacks the truth that vision without action is just hallucination—and shows how to turn that vision into reality. MEET OUR GUEST Scott Beebe is a Certified Exit Planning Advisor (CEPA), founder of Business On Purpose, and author of Let Your Business Burn and The Chaos Free Contractor. Scott hosts the Business On Purpose podcast sharing real stories of how he and the 10-person BOP team are working with business owners and their key leaders to build people, purpose, process, and profit installing the Business On Purpose Roadmap to liberate businesses from chaos and help them get their lives back. TODD TAKES Joy follows perspective—and both require intentionality. Joy doesn't show up automatically; it's a choice that comes from seeking out new perspectives and challenging your comfort zone. Leaders who actively look at situations from different angles often find clarity, connection, and purpose—even in the midst of chaos. Real leadership means knowing when to let the fires burn. Delegation is essential for growth, both for the leader and the team. By trusting others with responsibility—even at the risk of mistakes—leaders create opportunities for learning and development, rather than stepping in and solving every problem themselves. Chaos thrives in the absence of clarity and structure. A well-defined schedule and a clearly communicated vision are powerful tools to reduce overwhelm and create stability. Without implementation, vision remains just an idea—true progress comes from consistent, structured action.   CHAPTERS 00:00Introduction to Scott Beebe and His Journey 08:11Building a Succession-Worthy Business 17:59Engaging Gen Z in the Construction Industry 24:47The Importance of Action in Business 31:05The Power of Perspective and Joy 31:46Leadership and Delegation 32:10Clarity, Structure, and Implementation   MORE RESOURCES Thanks for listening! In this episode of The Tech Leader's Playbook, Avetis Antaplyan sits down with Mark Monchek, founder and Chief Opportunity Officer of Opportunity Lab. A seasoned author, speaker, and advisor, Mark has guided leaders from top global organizations through times of radical disruption. Drawing from his books Culture of Opportunity and the forthcoming Opportunity Intelligence, Mark shares how to unlock growth through collaboration, mindset shifts, and purpose-driven leadership. The conversation explores how leaders can thrive in chaos by embracing abundance over scarcity, building resilient networks, and identifying leverage points in times of upheaval. Mark recounts powerful stories—from rebuilding Asheville's River Arts District after Hurricane Helene to transforming the Literacy Assistance Center's resources through network mapping—that illustrate his belief in turning disruption into opportunity. The discussion also dives into cultivating generosity, forging unconventional partnerships (even with competitors), and the philosophy behind his upcoming “UnConference” for mid-market CEOs. This episode offers a compelling mix of history, personal resilience, and actionable strategies for leaders who want to create lasting impact in their organizations and communities.TakeawaysRadical disruptions impact all sectors simultaneously today, making adaptability more critical than ever.Leveraging networks can unlock hidden resources—often far more than organizations realize.Scarcity mindset limits growth; abundance mindset fosters collaboration and innovation.Crisis moments often accelerate trust, generosity, and community-building.Major innovations often emerge during economic downturns or crises.Partnerships—even with competitors—can expand capacity without adding overhead.Resilient leadership starts with finding a “place to stand” before taking action.Leaders should cultivate anti-fragility: emerging stronger after adversity. Most significant personal and professional growth comes from responding to challenges, not avoiding them. The UnConference model emphasizes peer-to-peer learning and authentic relationship-building.Storytelling and shared vision drive cooperation and collective success.Aligning business goals with a higher purpose strengthens resilience and motivation.Chapters00:00 Introduction and Mark Monchek's background in business, art, and psychology03:35 Defining radical disruption and why today's challenges are different05:24 Rebuilding Asheville's River Arts District after Hurricane Helene09:18 Finding leverage points in crisis and innovation during downturns13:31 Case study: Unlocking hidden resources at the Literacy Assistance Center19:53 Generosity, abundance mindset, and building collaborative networks24:12 The UnConference model for authentic leadership connections34:19 Partnerships, resilience, and balancing priorities40:09 Lessons in resilience from family history and adversity46:29 Why the UnConference exists and the outcomes it aims to create53:31 Closing advice: Lead with purpose and embrace collaborationMark Monchek's Social Media Links:https://www.linkedin.com/in/markmonchek/Mark Monchek's Website:https://opplab.com/Resources and Links:https://www.hireclout.comhttps://www.podcast.hireclout.comhttps://www.linkedin.com/in/hirefasthireright

Shaping Christ-Centered LeadersAfter nearly four decades in banking — culminating in a role leading over 7,000 employees across 1,000 Huntington Bank branches—Jon Greenwood knows a thing or two about leadership. He didn't just climb the corporate ladder; he built the culture beneath it, rooted in trust, consistency, and hard work. A self-proclaimed “overachiever,” Jon thrived by showing up, outworking everyone around him, and staying grounded in who he was in Christ. Now, he's bringing that lifetime of experience back to where it all started — Cedarville University.Jon's path to Cedarville wasn't exactly planned. As a high school senior in Springfield, Ohio, he was bound for Taylor University — just like many of his family members. But through a series of unexpected twists, including a last-minute golf tournament and his pastor father's connection to Cedarville University, he became a Yellow Jacket.  That seemingly small pivot shaped everything that followed — from his marriage to his professional life — and taught him to trust God's guidance, even when it didn't make sense. That trust became the foundation of Jon's leadership style. Throughout his banking career, he focused on building cultures where people could thrive, trust mattered more than titles, and integrity trumped efficiency. Even to this day, he believes “culture eats strategy for lunch.”Now, Jon is pouring that wisdom into CU Lead, Cedarville's new leadership initiative. It's more than a program — it's a movement. CU Lead will help college students and business leaders discover how God wired them. It reaches across disciplines — welcoming pastors, pharmacists, engineers, and teachers alike — because every field needs leaders who are anchored in character.CU Lead also opens doors to the marketplace through conferences, a speakers series, and practical partnerships with businesses. The goal? To produce graduates who are not only professionally competent but spiritually grounded — leaders who can be trusted with influence.Jon Greenwood's story is a testament to what God can do with a life fully surrendered. And now, he's helping others write their own stories — starting with who they are in Christ. He recently shared more about this journey on the Cedarville Stories podcast, offering listeners a behind-the-scenes look at the faith and leadership that have defined his path.https://share.transistor.fm/s/40a621bdhttps://youtu.be/-R_v_So-JKU

    L. David Marquet, former nuclear submarine commander and author of Leadership Is Language, shares a precise, operational approach to leadership, one that replaces command-and-control with a language designed for clarity, ownership, and adaptability. Drawing on his experience turning the USS Santa Fe from one of the worst-performing submarines in the fleet to one of the best, David shows how seemingly small shifts in language can radically improve decision-making, learning speed, and execution.   David rejects the traditional leader–follower model in favor of a leader–leader framework, where decision rights are pushed “to the people closest to the information.” He explains how questions, statements, and the timing of communication directly shape whether teams think critically or default to compliance.   “What we say and when we say it changes what people do. Language is a leadership technology.”   Key Takeaways: Replace Permission with Intent Moving from “Can I…?” to “I intend to…” changes accountability and ownership: “When people tell me what they intend to do, they're already owning the decision.” Protect Redwork and Bluework David distinguishes between redwork (doing) and bluework (thinking/planning) and stresses keeping them separate: “Mixing them degrades both. You want focused doing and focused thinking.” Sequence for Thinking, Not Speed Meetings often reward quick answers over thoughtful ones. Asking the most junior person to speak first helps reduce conformity bias. Use Language to Invite Dissent Adding uncertainty—“I'm not sure, but…”—creates psychological safety and surfaces crucial information that might otherwise stay hidden. Leaders Design Systems, Not Just Give Answers The leader's job is to build communication structures that distribute thinking and enable faster adaptation in changing conditions. This episode is a practical blueprint for leaders who want to operationalize empowerment without losing control. By deliberately changing how they speak and listen, executives can create teams that are more resilient, accountable, and high-performing.   Get David's new book here: https://shorturl.at/sv6QO Distancing: How Great Leaders Reframe to Make Better Decisions   Here are some free gifts for you:   Overall Approach Used in Well-Managed Strategy Studies free download: www.firmsconsulting.com/OverallApproach   McKinsey & BCG winning resume free download: www.firmsconsulting.com/resumepdf   Enjoying this episode?
