We've all experienced pain, but how much of it is physiological and how much of it is psychological? I'm asking this question because I recently had a really bad bout with pain and it reminded me about the work of Dr. John Sarno.    Dr. John Sarno did a ton of research around the Mindbody Connection. He started his career as a regular doctor, assessing physical trauma and prescribing pain meds or surgery as needed. All was well until he realized that his patients didn't always get better after the initial issue was treated.    For instance, he'd have people come in for a back injury and then years later they were still feeling pain. Not ALL of his patients experienced this phenomenon though. What was it that kept some people in pain while others were perfectly fine?    He started doing research on the placebo effect and made huge strides in connecting pain in the body to a psychological origin.    Listen in as I share more about his work and why it helped me very recently overcome pain that I thought was caused by an injury. 80% of the people who read his books or listen to his lectures are healed of their pain immediately. Wouldn't it be nice to leave the pain behind?    You can! [04:26] So many people are in pain, but they don't have to be. [09:43] He classified all muscular pain as TMS: Tension Myositis Syndrome. [11:40] I don't believe it's right for a doctor to give a timeline on someone's life. Learn why. [14:29] In general, if you believe the mind can heal the body, then keep listening.  [15:50] Learn who is most likely to have pain due to TMS.  [18:45] Dr. Sarno started off as a regular doctor and realized that there were common traits between people who suffered from pain and those who didn't. [21:55] Inflammation in the body has been linked to Alzheimer's as well.  [22:59] Another thing to check out if you're in pain is whether or not you have any vitamin or mineral deficiencies. [24:10] Assuming there is nothing wrong with you but you have chronic back pain, it may be mindbody related.  [25:32] 80% of people who read through Dr. Sarno's books and listening to his lectures notice a reduction of pain.  [27:35] What TMS really is and how your mind tries to overcome it. [30:22] Dr. Sarno's books help eliminate the fear that comes with bad diagnoses.  [32:56] I'm sharing this because I experienced this healing first hand. Time for another round of thyroid questions and answers! If you have questions, leave them below! Have questions that you want answered? Please leave them in the comments below! I am going to try and answer your questions at least a couple of times per month. Questions in this video come from a post I left on youtube and I will draw from future questions here for additional videos. Questions answered in this video include: Q - Does Hypothyroidism cause swelling/edema? And how do you fix it? A - YES! Low thyroid function can absolutely lead to edema and swelling. The key to fixing this problem is to fix your thyroid. Not ALL cases of edema/swelling are caused by low thyroid, however. Q - How do I know if I am hyperthyroid and whether or not it's due to my medication or Hashimoto's? A - You have to be careful about how you define hyperthyroid. Taking thyroid medication may drop your TSH but that doesn't necessarily mean that you are hyperthyroid. Many patients can be low thyroid with a low TSH even though their lab tests look hyperthyroid. Q - How do I know if I have just Hashimoto's or an under active thyroid? How do I diagnose Hashimoto's? A - The key is that you must have BOTH low thyroid symptoms AND elevated thyroid antibodies. Some people have what's known as seronegative Hashimoto's but that is not common. When in doubt it's statistically in your favor to assume you have Hashimoto's. Q - Can you still have symptoms even if your thyroid lab tests are in the normal range? My doctor says no. A - YES! You can definitely have symptoms even with "normal" or "optimal" thyroid lab tests. Each person is different and thyroid lab tests should not be used without also evaluating your symptoms. Q - Can you comment on the connection between Hashimoto's and high testosterone? Is this normal? A - Most women with Hashimoto's tend to have low testosterone but some women with Hashimoto's do have high testosterone, it's just far less common. Sometimes treating your thyroid can completely improve your testosterone levels. Q - How do know what the right dose of Nature-throid is? It's hard to pinpoint what my dose should be. A - When trying to adjust your dose of thyroid medication you may find that compounded T4/T3 thyroid medication allows for finer tuning of your dose. Sometimes taking a small dose one day and then a larger dose another day can solve the problem as well. Back up: The database is called the Global Internet Forum to Counter Terrorism (GIFCT). Scripture For Today: 1 Timothy 2:1 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers and thanksgiving be made for all people…” Intercession and Supplication part one  Another aspect of prayer is to depend on the Holy Spirit to help you pray the prayer of intercession and supplication. The Bible speaks about this and says the Holy Spirit makes intercession for us in Romans 8:27. You must remember, the prayer of intercession is not something you pray for yourself. An intercessor is someone who takes the place of another in prayer. You intercede for others, but never yourself. On the other hand, supplication means to make a “humble entreaty or request” on behalf of another. That is why we can make “supplication for all saints.” Amen! By interceding for our unsaved loved ones and other unsaved people, things sometimes will happen in their lives we know nothing about. In praying in tongues, it is possible for you to interceded in the lives of others that save them from disaster or perhaps send someone across their path to witness to them. I pray this all of the time. “Send someone to them whose opinion they will respect and allow this person to open a discussion with them that will lead them to accept you as their Savior.” That is a valid prayer of intercession – especially for your loved ones. Amen! These types of intercessions are often accomplished through the speaking in other tongues as the Holy Spirit gives us utterance. He knows what is needed. We are yielding ourselves to Him. We are actually interceding in a natural situation, through the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to come alongside and intervene in whatever the situation is.  “Why does He do that, brother Bob?” What does the Bible say in Matthew 18:19, “Where two our more come together in agreement, whatsoever they request in prayer, the Father will give them.” So when you and the Holy Spirit agree in prayer, while praying in tongues – there you go! Amen! That is why I keep telling you that praying in tongues is one sure fire way to get your prayers answered a lot faster than praying in the natural. Amen! Don't shout me down when I'm preaching good! Now, I do want to make one very important point. Not ALL intercession and supplication needs to be done by praying in tongues. You can (and should) pray in the natural and with your understanding – as far as your knowledge goes. If you know the situation that is requiring your prayer, you can pray in the natural, to a point. Once you have gone as far as you can in the natural, go ahead and switch over to tongues and allow the Holy Spirit to take it the rest of the way. Amen. One reason more people are not being born again is because nobody is praying for them in Holy Spirit. Nobody is making intercession for them in the Holy Spirit I believe it has been so long for most of us to remember what life was like before we were born again, how miserable and lost we actually were, when someone prayed for US in the Holy Spirit. Amen. You may or may not even know who it was. But somebody was praying in tongues for you! And look at you now! Amen! We need to do the same thing for others. Let's bring more and more people into the Kingdom of God as we wrap this ungodly world we live in. Pray in tongues more often and get more people born again through the prayer of intercession. Amen! Let's Pray! Lil Mama explained the movement was necessary to protect herself, and other heterosexuals, from being bullied by the LGBTQ+ community. “Y’all fight so hard to be respected and SOME of you, NOT ALL, get a kick out bullying people for having an option, how they dress, how their hair and or makeup looks, how much money they have, etc,” she wrote in an Instagram story. “There are so many people afraid to give their honest opinion (sic) because if they do the LGBTQ+ will hear what they want to hear and take statements out of context. I don’t have to prove myself by reminding people that I have loved ones of the LGBTQ+ Community. When I speak I’m not trying to hurt anyone, I’m just speaking my truth, just like you all.”Lil Mama caught heat earlier this month when she shared her thoughts on transgender children, and suggested that being transgender was “depopulation at any cost.” She shared a tweet that read: “So children are too young to smoke cigarettes, too young to drink alcohol, too young to get a driver’s license, too young to go to a club, too young to gamble, too young to rent a car, but old enough to cut off their genitals and/or ‘change’ their gender? For many - going back to school marks the return of worries, fears and anxieties that have been removed for the past year. Bullying, struggling with learning, exams, cramming and trying to catch up with the teaching time that has been “lost” - are we running the risk of RUSHING our kids back into school and running them back into stress and anxiety? Not ALL parents are keen to get rid of their kids ... and not ALL kids are as excited about going back to school as Politicians and Parents think. Several months and two million dollars later, Kyle Rittenhouse has finally been released on bail, thanks in no small part to MyPillow's Mike Lindell and actor Ricky Schroder. The left is predictably apoplectic over it. It's not enough for them that the terrorists in their ranks never get charged with anything when engaging in sustained acts of domestic terror; they're not satisfied unless and until maximum lawfare is used against anyone who dares to defend themselves from rioting black blocs.  Thankfully, conservatives are starting to wake up and smell the coffee, so to speak. Most right-wingers have enough good sense to recognize the fact that Kyle was acting in self-defense, and they're standing together, ready to die on this hill. Not ALL conservatives are like that, though. Speaking of coffee, Black Rifle Coffee Company, a Jewish-owned company, is under fire for publicly distancing itself from Rittenhouse. Critics say it's hypocritical to invoke the second amendment in your brand imagery but not stand behind those who lawfully invoke their second amendment rights. I'm inclined to agree. Fundraising. Is that word thrilling to hear, or does it give you anxiety? For some people fundraising is their favorite part of being involved with a nonprofit, and for other people, it’s their number one cause of heartburn. I don’t have to tell you, fundraising is a huge part of running a nonprofit, and when it’s going well, you feel on top of the world… When it’s going not so great, you might feel like you’re inching closer and closer to the edge of the cliff and hoping you’re not going to fall off. Fundraising can be a trigger for anxiety because it’s never guaranteed.  The future of your mission is in the hands of your donors, and the image that your nonprofit gives your donors can make – or break your organization. Your relationship with your donors is so important – and here’s the great part – you have power over it! Not ALL the power, but you do have a lot of control – more than you think.  You have control of when you contact them, over the message you give them, and over what they know about your nonprofit. You are the gatekeeper of information about your organization so what you share with them is important.  What you put out on your nonprofit’s social media, in your email newsletters, in your blog posts, in all your channels of communication is crucial in building your relationships with your supporters.  They aren’t coming to work with you every day, they are on the sidelines. They only know what you put out there. Even if you are posting something on social media that is meant for the people you serve, guess what – your donors still see it. They are watching. And do you know what they expect? They expect you to only post things, and email things, and blog about things that all relate directly to your mission.  If you are confusing them with things that don’t make sense about your mission like pointless things about your plate of avocado toast on your nonprofit’s Instagram page, or wishing everyone a happy National Play the Kazoo at Work Day on Facebook, you’re making it hard for them to be inspired to give to your organization.  When your marketing message – and yes, a Facebook post counts as a piece of marketing material – doesn’t talk about services you offer or your nonprofit mission, you’re confusing your donors. As the marketing expert Donald Miller says, “If you confuse, you’ll lose.”  When a donor gives to your organization, they are asking and delegating to you what they wish they could do themselves, but don’t have time to do. Because your donors are busy working at the job that allows them to give you money. They are entrusting you with the responsibility to help the cause that they care about.  You’ve shown your donors that your nonprofit organization has a specific mission and you are striving to make a difference in your community. And that mission is something your donor cares enough about to give you their hard-earned money. They are trusting you to get it done.  They want the problem that your nonprofit is working to solve to go away, or for you to make it better or improve the situation. Your donor believes your nonprofit can make a difference and since they don’t have time and can’t do it by themselves, they entrust the work to you.  Their financial gift enables you to make a difference on their behalf. If you are posting about your avocado toast on your nonprofit’s social media page, what kind of message is that sending to your donors? If you are posting about things that aren’t in line with your mission, or that are distracting and confusing, what are you telling your donors? If you’re posting one day about how you serve the homeless, and the next day your post is wishing everyone a happy National Coffee Day, what kind of message is that sending to your donors? It’s cheery, but what if it’s the only post they saw from you that week? It’s fluff. It has no purpose. It does not relate to your mission at all.  This is some tough love, but I’m telling you because I care about you and your nonprofit’s success.  Being consistent in sharing your mission, your services, and showing up regularly are non-negotiable if you want to be successful with your marketing.  What your donors might assume from posts that are not consistent with your mission is that you don’t know what you’re doing. You are telling them that you don’t have a plan and aren’t sure of what to post. You are telling them that you’re not taking this seriously.  You can’t just show up on social media, you have to show up meaningfully, if you want results.  It’s not just posting for the sake of posting, or emailing for the sake of emailing, or blogging for the sake of blogging. Your message has to be meaningful, and it has to be repeated. Make your donors sure that they are doing the best thing with their money.  Make them sure what your nonprofit organization does. When your donors start doubting, and another nonprofit comes around asking for support with a clearer message, your donors will be tempted if they aren’t sure about what you do. Don’t make it hard for your donors to support you! I know, you get tired of repeating yourself.  You feel like every email is the same, or every social media post is just a repeat of something you’ve already said.  I’ve been there. I totally know how you feel. But here’s the thing – just because you’ve said it a hundred, or a thousand, or a few thousand times, doesn’t mean everyone’s HEARD it that many times.  And if they’ve heard your consistent, focused marketing message a thousand times, then you are doing it right, and that person is probably one of your donors or supporters. If you own a television, I know you’ve seen the Humane Society commercials with the dogs, or the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital commercial with all the children. You might think it’s the sadness and the emotion that those commercials show that are the reason why people give to those organizations – and yes that’s part of it – but the REAL reason is because those two organizations keep showing up in the same way, with the same focused message – and have you noticed?  They each only have ONE COMMERCIAL EACH!  Do you know how much money St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital raises every year with just ONE COMMERCIAL? Millions. Millions of dollars in contributions. Using the same commercial they have been using for years. Do you know why they are always at the top of the list of highest earning nonprofits? They are helping children, but also because they are good at talking about their mission – that’s marketing. They have a laser focused message, and they keep repeating it over and over and over. So the next time you think you’ve said what you have to say about your nonprofit too many times and you’re tired of hearing the same ol’ message and you’ve repeated yourself for the last time – think of those shivering dogs and those sick children in each of those organization’s ONE COMMERCIAL - and repeat yourself again. And here’s the best part about repeating yourself in your marketing – it saves you time. You don’t have to keep reinventing the wheel. Once you have a clear and easy to understand marketing message, you can literally keep repeating it over and over. This is going to make posting on social media so much easier, I promise.  Here are 3 things to do today to get focused on the message you want to give to your donors: Set aside time to think about four things: who you serve, how you serve them, why you serve them and what is the goal you’re working towards? Brainstorm and write down at least 12 ideas and words that come to mind as you think about those four things. Then cross off all but the strongest 3 or 4. Yes, make the list shorter and shorter - until there are only 3 or 4 words or phrases left that clearly - very clearly, so there’s no doubt, describe your mission – what you do, what your goal is. Look back. Look back at the past 3 months in your organization – what’s been working and what hasn’t? Think about this as it relates to your marketing and in your service to others and in your donor feedback. Use the things that have been working as ideas for content and what you are posting and talking about in your marketing. Boil it down. Ask everyone – your volunteers, employees, anyone you’ve served - what your organization does. Write down all of their words and pick out the strongest ones. Then, think of an easier way to say it. Keep whittling away until it describes your mission, what you do, who you serve and how you do it. Boil it down until it’s one or two short sentences. Make it easy to understand and be sure it tells exactly what your mission is and that it’s easy to say.  Then use this as your main marketing message.  And say it over and over again. Take it apart and use one phrase for one social media post or email or blog post at a time. You are always using the same words – your mission statement, but you’re breaking it down into little pieces for your donors to remember.   That’s how they come to know, like and trust you. That’s what keeps donors invested in your nonprofit organization.  They get to know you because you continue to give the same message on Facebook, Instagram, in emails and blog posts.  Then they start liking what you do because you’ve made them aware of your nonprofit by showing up consistently and having the same message about what you do – they don’t have to guess. And finally, they begin to trust you because you keep saying that you are on a mission and they know what that mission is – and of course you’re doing a great job fulfilling that mission!   I want you to remember, keep your marketing message short, and keep using the same words over and over again. Meredith is a licensed professional counselor and owner of her own private practice, Milk and Honey Counselling. She is a graduate of the Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary and has served on staff with Young Life and worked as the lead counselor for Inheritance of Hope. She has a new book coming out next week on January 21st, 2020 called In Want + Plenty: Waking Up to God’s Provision In a Land of Longing. I highly recommend you preorder it right away. Meredith says that she feels called to sit with and listen to the stories of women and men, helping them discover who they are and experience life more fully. It was so refreshing, encouraging, and challenging to speak with Meredith today. Join me for this serene moment with Meredith McDaniel. 3:07 – The Meredith 101 Meredith is a licensed counselor who also went to seminary. She completed her Master of Christian Counseling program at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary. She studied core bible classes, but her main focus was integrating Christianity and Psychology. It’s so important for the Church to care not only for people’s spiritual lives, but for people’s mental health as well. About half of Meredith’s clients in her private practice are walking with the Christian faith and half of them are not. Her goal is to provide a safe space for people to process their lives. She doesn’t approach sessions from an evangelical mindset, but questions like “Who Am I?”, “Why Am I Here?”, and “What Is My Purpose?” often come up naturally in sessions with people who don’t identify as Christians.    Meredith has been encouraged that the stigma with mental health has started to wane. There are far more organizations speaking about anxiety and depression, and more conversations are happening on podcasts and social media. In the near future, Meredith will work with a local school to provide counseling onsite so that students don’t have to worry about missing as much school to get to appointments. 10:08 – A Universal Feeling: Purpose & Meaning  There’s a common story that brings us all together: We all want meaning and purpose in our lives no matter what our beliefs and backgrounds. Meredith calls it a yearning. Some feel it deeper than others, but we all feel it to some degree. Meredith began to notice a pattern that no matter what season of life people are in, many different people feel as if their lives are unraveling and they’ve lost sight of their purpose. Many people feel stuck in that space and don’t feel like they can pull themselves out of it. The key seems to be finding movement and seeing our lives in a new way while being at peace with knowing there are a lot of factors out of our control. This is what gave Meredith the ideas for much what she wrote for In Want & Plenty: In Want + Plenty: Waking Up to God's Provision in a Land of Longing. 13:40 - The Exodus Provision Meredith compares our modern lives to biblical characters who wandered in the wilderness for years. Our mouths are dry, and our stomachs are rumbling, and we are wandering. Think about it this way: We wake up, we scroll through our phones, our minds are running with to do lists, we don’t stop to breathe, stretch or sweat, and we have trouble connecting to each other in a real way. If you take a closer look, we can relate to the people in the story of Exodus and other parts of the bible. Meredith talks about the idea of “manna” both in her book and often on social media. If you’re not familiar with that term, the Hebrew translation is literally, “What Is It?” The dictionary definition from biblical context is “the substance miraculously supplied as food to the Israelites in the wilderness (Exodus 16).” Meredith summarizes the feeling of a “manna moment” to be a moment where God has provided for her in a way that she was surprised by that she didn’t quite fully understand. Sometimes “manna moments” come in the form of things we may not like or prefer. We may not know why certain things happen, but we can surrender and trust that God has the big picture that we can’t see. We want what we want, and we want it right now, but if we can unearth the manna that is in every single corner of our lives, it completely changes our view and we start recognizing it. 21:13 – How to Hunt for Manna In her book, Meredith equips readers to look for manna in their lives. The number one way to do this is slowing down. Our world is too fast and we don’t have the time or space to absorb what’s happening beneath the surface in our lives. Slowing down could look different from person to person. What does it look like to you to make space and prioritize certain things in your life? For Meredith, one thing that helps her slow down is music. To sit and listen to a song and absorb it can help you recognize things in your own heart and soul before going back into the world to do what you’re called to do. Anything that helps calm our systems will help us fight anxiety and/or depression. Movement, exercise, and time in nature can also help our systems calm. Eating well and being aware of what we put in our minds and bodies helps greatly. All these things inspire us for the work we are meant to do. We have to take care of our whole being – our mental well-being as well as our physical well-being. Prayer, actively slowing down to nourish our spiritual lives, and patience prepares us to recognize manna moments when they’re fulfilled. If life is a marathon, how are we fueling our bodies, minds, and souls? If we try to look at all the things we need and want to do, we become overwhelmed. It’s important for people to realize it’s ok if they can’t do it all. We can rely on God, on others, on counseling. It’s important to remember the long game. It’s a lifelong journey and it’s ok to slow down and relinquish some control. 33:48 – It’s Not All on Our Shoulders  It can feel daunting to look back at your life. Most of us don’t want to sit with feelings from the past or even the present. We only want to look forward. It can be painful to do the work of looking back. That’s when we can lean on our communities, friends, and family members we trust. Sometimes that community includes a therapist or spiritual director who is willing to make a space for you to process your life. In the story of Exodus in the Bible, the Israelites found their voice in desperation. There are so many examples of them crying to God in desperation. God still wants us to cry out to him. It’s easy in our modern lives to think we have to pretend that we have it all together and hide our feelings from others and even from God. That’s what keeps a lot of us separated from God and from the people we’re blessed to have in our lives. When we can’t manage things on our own, it’s ok to ask for help and focus on healing. Both God and our communities want us to ask for help. We can surrender and trust God, even when it feels like our prayers and not being answered. 21:43 - We’ve got to slow down. Our world is so fast-paced and the content we have at our fingertips and in our ears at any point is crowding out the space we have to hear, see, and listen, and absorb what is happening beneath the surface.” 22:30 “I think it’s really important that we have time where we are just processing our story from the beginning of our life to wherever we are now…” 32:30 - “It’s more of a mystery, this whole life thing. It’s a case by case basis based on our own personality and who and how we were made to be. If we’re disconnected than the one who made us, it makes sense that we would be walking around feeling a little bit disoriented…” 33:00 - “I am part of a greater story. I get to play a role and it’s a gift and an honor to get to play a small role in the grander, rescue narrative, but I am not the main character and that is relieving and very freeing to me to get to lean in to it from that perspective.” 42:30 – “My prayer is that people would start to hunt for the manna: When they’re holding that ache of both (what they) want and experiencing the abundance of the plenty, that they would be able to see the manna in both.” Meredith’s book In Want + Plenty: Waking Up to God’s Provision In a Land of Longing comes out January 21st, 2020. Mark is an Agile coach and long term friend of this show, Johanna’s background is in product development, where she consults and writes prolifically.  Software development is often seen as challenging for online collaboration, but the authors felt strongly that there were lots of strategies worth considering, and case studies that many could learn from. Practical industry issues include timezone overlap, or lack of - and balancing the iteration of the work with the cadence of the regular checkpoints and milestones. Scrum is all about fixed timeboxing and needs some flexible thinking to apply to a team who cannot all work at the same time, it can be done. The Agile approach of experimenting and exploring and keeping what works, applies well to optimising these rhythms. They’ve also written a great article about how they wrote the book as remote collaborators, “You Have to Say More There: Effective Communication in a Distributed Agile Team”, which resonated significantly for the Virtual Not Distant team, and is a highly worthwhile read on its own. This approach led to a really close collaborative process mostly writing and editing synchronously in real-time, producing a very consistent and unified tone of voice for the book as a whole even though they brought different stories and experiences to each element of the content. They also delve into the feedback and consultation process, and the LeanPub approach for writing and getting feedback fast - an Agile approach to creating content, that helped ensure the book truly reflected the needs and truths of its audience. And the conversation on tools leads into the bigger one we’re continually having about the tech ecosystem itself - and to another great article from Mark and Johanna For Distributed Agile Teams, It’s Not All about the Tools (because it’s more about the why behind the tool than the what). The Agile mindset clearly has a great deal to offer to remote teams on so many levels. And how will I rally the troops! We all have different mental models of the typical leader. (Pilar mentions one she observed in the TV series Bad Banks.) One leadership archetype we often think of is the ‘hero’. The charismatic, inspiring orator, delivering team-talks which get everybody enthused to action - but this might not easily translate to the online space. If we rely on that group energy to pump up the motivation with our personal passion, it just won’t work so well (though there are routes to this, for example, high-quality video). A mindset shift to being an enabler within the team and a champion of the team, relating to our colleagues as individuals rather than a mass to be moved collectively. We have to make use of all the channels and tools we have at our disposal to connect effectively and tap into what motivates each person, as part of our leadership role, and our management practice. I have always wondered why women hide their messages in "women's only" groups, events and so on. Not ALL of them do (if you don't then this isn't for you, but maybe you feel the same way I do), but a good chunk of them isolate their message. My sons need to hear you. He just wasn’t an amazing sales message writer.   BUT he was making a lot of money because of WHAT he was in.   A little bit later, I was coaching somebody who was an amazing sales message writer. Their offer was so incredibly sexy. They had an amazing sales funnel and their traffic looked great…   BUT they were hardly making any money because of MARKET they were in.    WHAT they were in was the problem:   Not the sales message   Not the offer   Not the funnel   Not the traffic   ... nothing else.   It was WHAT they were in.   I went through this red ocean strategy at my OfferMInd Event. HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS   If you aren’t making money the problem is often, NOT that you don't have an amazing offer - it’s that you're literally in the wrong market.   Money is not known to exchange hands at a high rate.   People don't like spending money on the kind of solution that you've created.   So, ahead of time, there's a checklist I go through to make sure that what I create is gonna sell.   When I started in this game, I’d always start with a funnel. I'd be like, “Oh, sick. Here's this sweet funnel.” And I’d run into some serious snags and really big issues along the way.   So I started thinking, “Oh, crap. I can't start with the funnel anymore. I need to start crafting the sales message.” I was like, “Oh, sweet.”   BUT then I learned that that's not even true either...   Now, before I even start the sales message, I think about positioning. It's all about the WHO. I call it “The History of the Who.”   So I dive deep into the Who and the Opportunity to help me determine the likelihood of me building a successful sales funnel before I ever pursue writing a sales message.   I want to stack as many cards in my favor as I possibly can to make it a win. Why wouldn't I? And you should too!     TO BE THE CATEGORY KING?   A lot of people ask me:   Q:  “Stephen, why on Earth are you not providing more sales funnel educational programs? Why are you not building more courses about sales funnels?”   A: ...Because there are SO MANY people doing that. It would be suicide for me to go do that. It'd be dumb.”   It would be a dumb move for me even though I was the lead funnel builder at ClickFunnels.   Why? Because Russell Brunson is the category king in that space. I'm not gonna go fight over scraps in that area.   I'm not gonna compete with Russell. That'd be stupid. Does that make sense?   QUESTIONS INVITE REVELATION   So before I ever decided to start sellin' Offer Creation stuff or anything in the funnel world. The question I asked was: “Where do I fit in the ecosystem of all the markets that are out there?”   And that's what I'm gonna walk you through here.   This is super crucial stuff, but a lot of people don't ask this before they jump in and decide WHAT to sell… and that’s a HUGE mistake.   Here's the concept…   IS YOUR RED OCEAN PREGNANT?   Before I start building out a NEW value ladder, the first thing I want to do is identify a Red Ocean that’s ripe and ready give birth to a Blue Ocean baby because:   NOT ALL markets are created equal.   NOT ALL markets are at a price point with a history and a customer education level that’s right.   For example:   The market for Beanie Babies was massive 10 years ago, now, by comparison, it’s super tiny.   So if  you're like, “Stephen, I'm sellin' Beanie Baby accessories…”  *CRINGE*   Your market, your Red Ocean is TINY.   The likelihood of being successful is so small, you’d literally have to capture darn near 100% of your market for your Beanie Baby accessories business to be successful.   Likewise, who here wants to invest in KMart or Sears? No one. Why? Is there a market? Yeah, but it’s sooo wicked tiny - you don’t wanna go there.   STACKING THE CARDS   Now, I wanna walk through a few things that I look for to make sure that what I'm entering is a place of security... and that the chance my chosen market being lucrative is extremely high.   Remember, the real estate guy I told you about at the start of this blog? He’s an example of someone who was NOT a good sales funnel creator. NOT good sales message writer. NOT amazing at creating offers, but just good enough...   Specifically, he chose a good enough market to come out of, which meant that he could make a lot of money. It's more about picking your ripe market, than almost anything else. The actual positioning of where you sit inside the market and what Ocean you're coming out of.   I'm not makin' fun of it, but man, if someone else comes to me and wonders why they're not making money as a “homeopathic life coach selling to college students.”     I don't care if you're the best, you're just not positioned to make a lot of money. The cards are not in your favor.   … so what do you look for when picking a ripe Ocean?   TIMING MATTERS Timing matters when it comes to markets.   Often when a big company explodes, a lot of them will attribute it to timing.   We were in the right place at the right time.   We had the assets we needed.   We had the business we needed.   We had all of the things in place to take advantage of something that we saw that no one else was in.”   So timing matters, and I want you to know that.   Markets are living, breathing things. They don't need to stick around and often they don't.   Don’t be surprised if your funnel doesn’t work, if you’ve chosen   A small market   A market that's contracting instead of expanding   I'm gonna tell you in a moment, why markets don't stick around…   There are specific signs I look for to let me know if I’ve found a market that’s safe to enter…   So if you’re cool with it, I'm goin' a little deeper...   IS MY RED OCEAN RIPE? So, these are the things that I look for to know if this market is ready to birth a Blue Ocean.   #1: Conflicting Beliefs   If you have a tiny market which it starts to grow and expand. If money's being reinvested that market and customers are being created, sooner or later, those customers will bring in more customers and they'll sell each other.   ...Eventually, you’ll get to a spot where the market/ red ocean starts to get so big and so many gurus start to appear that, (regardless of industry), conflicting beliefs will start to arise.   Conflicting Beliefs are a key sign to look for.   When that happens, “Oh, Baby! Blue Ocean”   So whenever there's conflict inside the Red Ocean, inside of a market, that's an amazing opportunity for you. #2: Too Many Product Options   The theme of products inside of a Red Ocean is very much like, “Hey, we're better, no we're better, no we're better.”   There’s a lot of very similar products that are just slightly better than each other. There are not any products that are different.   Different is the theme of the Blue Ocean.   ...And when you start to see tons of products competing on ‘better,’ that’s one way to know that the Red Ocean is ripe.     It's why, if you don't know your market/ Red Ocean, it's really risky.   #3:  Customer Innovation   If customers are starting to innovate on the products in the Red Ocean, that's another big sign. #4:  The rise of C- level influencers   There are category kings and main honchos; the Russell Brunson's of other industries. The A-level influencers, the big fish.   Then there are B-level influencers. Not quite as big, but still quite big.   When you see the rise of C- level influencers. The third tier influencers; that's a big sign that you're ready to branch out and take people from the Red Ocean to take a following into a NEW Blue Ocean.   # 4: An Ugly Ocean   By this I mean, is your Ocean is contracting? If your Ocean is leaving don't pick it. I like avocados a lot. Avocados are good for like five to seven days, then they go bad.   It's very much that way with Red Oceans. The ship may have sailed… or the avocado may have gone rotten ;-)   Don’t try to make a dying or dead market work for you. It won't work.   I'm not sayin' that you can't make money, but the road is long. Stop doing that!   IS YOUR MARKET CONTRACTING? You know your market is dying specifically when businesses are NOT reinvesting cash back into the Ocean.   If businesses are taking money out of a market and not putting it back in, that’s a contracting market.   If you don't see entrepreneurs:   Reinvesting cash   Building up the business   Building up systems and teams   Building up more infrastructure.   … that’s a contracting market.   Grant Cardone’s last event was 9000 people. His next one is 35000 people. They’ve rented a whole baseball stadium.   What does that tell ya?   A: The dude is reinvesting cash back into that area. That's some freakin' security. That is an expanding market.   If you see A-level gurus reinvesting cash at that level - that's a big deal. It's not just cool, it’s a signal.   If I wanted to sell Grant Cardone's salespeople, that would be a sign to me that it is safe for me to go create a new opportunity. Does that make sense? # 5: A Decrease in New Buyers Entering The Market   # 6: A Decrease in New Sellers   ... Meaning:   There are no more new businesses being created   There are no new people   There's a declining rate. Then don't go into that market.   You're lookin' for strength in numbers in both customers & successful businesses.   #6: Fad or Foundation?   When you can ask this next question, it’ll help you like crazy:   Is my Red Ocean a fad or a foundation?   Fad = Beanie Babies, POGs, KMart, Sears…   This is one of the MOST key things I can teach you right here... and it’s the main core of this entire episode.   Too often, people make a product and they come to me and ask, “Steve, who should I sell it to?” I'm like, “You have no idea who your market is, do you?”   The Red Ocean is your market. That's who you're pulling from and bringing over to your new thing.     But before you chose a market you need to answer the question,“Is my Red Ocean a fad or a foundation?”   How do you do that…   TRAFFIC TEMPERATURE   There's a key way to know if that's true, and it all comes down to the temperature of traffic.   I know this is more of a technical episode but stay with me. This is HUGE.   This is the difference between millions of dollars and nothing.   Seriously, this is the difference between a break-even business and a profitable business right here.   I do NOT ever have to ask, “Where's my customer?”  - because of what I'm about to tell you right here.   It’s one of the major reasons why my stuff's blowin' up and I've only been away from ClickFunnels for a year, and it's gone this well.   Not tootin' my horn, just sayin'...   It comes down to the temperature of traffic.   And I think people skate past this idea too fast.   There are three kinds of traffic or three temperatures of traffic:   Hot traffic   Warm traffic   Cold traffic   ...And I know, as my audience, you’re like, “Yeah, duh Stephen I've heard that.”  Follow me…   #Hot traffic takes the smallest amount of education to sell. The bridge that they need in order to actually make a purchase is very tiny. They're problem aware and they're solution aware.   #Warm traffic needs a little bit more education to sell. They're problem aware, but they're NOT solution aware.   #Cold traffic takes a freakin' gigantic bridge to sell. You have to educate them like crazy, lots of education. They’re NOT problem aware or solution aware. So you gotta educate them on the problem and the solution.   ...and that's super challenging.   There are not many companies ever really build that cold traffic bridge. That’s the key.   If you’re struggling in your business right now, It's probably because:   you don't know your WHO. You have no idea who you're selling to.   You DO know WHO you are sellin' to, but you might just be sellin' the WRONG person. You're literally attached to the wrong market, the wrong Red Ocean.   This DOESN’T mean you have to abandon everything - just switch. CHANGE.   I had to do that in March. March of this year, I realized I was sellin' the wrong person. I had to switch whole markets.   I went back, and I changed all the vernacular in my:   Copy   Emails   Sales letters   Actual offer   ...I changed everything.   Same product, but I changed the messaging because I realized that my Ocean was wrong. HOW TO FIND YOUR OCEAN   There is a piece of this Red Ocean, right here, that would LOVE:   A new opportunity   A new vehicle.   They’re in the current Ocean and they're the current products and the current vehicles. BUT they HATE them. That is the best person to sell.   Remember, The 3 personas of the Red Ocean? Go back to that episode again if you need to refresh your memory.   I'm NOT goin’ for everyone inside of the Red Ocean. I'm goin' for the person who's, like, “I love that  I can get health/ wealth/ relationships, but I freakin' hate the vehicle. I hate this product. I hate using it. I just don't know what else to use? My friend, that is the easiest person to sell to. That's who I sell to.   When someone calls me on social media, they're like, “Stephen, will you help me be successful with x, y, and z?” I already know they're NOT the right person just because of that one move.   ... I'm like, “Probably not.”  If you're not willing to go get the program off of the webinar that I put out there, you're not my customer. I'm not here to convince you...   BUT... the person who is in the Red Ocean, and they:   Hate the vehicles   Hate the products that are there   … that's who you want to talk to. That’s the easiest person to sell.   Stick with me. this is BIG. Millions of dollars, BIG.   This is why ClickFunnels is ClickFunnels.   This is why Apple became Apple.   Seriously, right here, this is it... ENTER THE CUSTOMER COLLECTION ZONE   When you’re selling to hot traffic, (people who are problem aware and solution aware) you are in a zone, that I have come to call, “Customer Collection.”   There's not much you have to do except tell them a tiny story + very small levels of education, and you have collected the customer.   I'm looking for the market that has moved successfully from customer collection to customer creation.   Boom! That's the key, right there.     Can your market create a customer, not collect?   ...And that's where you see ClickFunnels doin' a lot right now.   I'm the One Funnel Away coach. The One Funnel Away Challenge is built completely to create customers.   Russell Brunson has soaked up tons and tons and tons of these other people, right. Lots of other markets. He's grabbed, he's collected a lot of the customers that are out there.   ClickFunnels has moved from customer collection to customer creation.   They're selling more to cold kinds of traffic. MUCH HARDER! So hard that markets close because of it.   If a market cannot go from customer collection to customer creation, the market dies because they run outta customers; they run outta fresh blood to sell.   Sure they can continue to sell existing customers, but it’s NOT sustainable. It's only sustainable when you can move to customer collection successfully. Does that make sense?   I know it's getting deep here; you might have to read times, and that's okay. BUT I want you to understand what I'm looking for. I call it Red Ocean Analytics.   I spend waaay more time understanding the Red Ocean than I do building the Blue Ocean.   It's about me selecting the right market to come out of to write my sales message for, to adapt and create an offer for, a sales funnel for.   But before any of that, I want to know...   Am I hookin' up to a market that is expanding?   Is money being reinvested?   Is your market contracting?   Is your Red Ocean gonna die because it’s NOT been able to move from customer collection to customer creation?   Customer Creation = Not many markets do that.   CUSTOMER CREATION IS HARD   Now, ClickFunnels knows how to create customers because you're talkin' about Russell Brunson.   Steve Jobs knew how to create customers too...   It took me forever to get an iPhone, but Apple created a customer out of me. I was, like, “I don't know, I have a computer, I don't need an iPhone.”   Facebook, okay. I hated Facebook for years. I had a love-hate relationship. I still kind of do...   But FB created a customer out of me. They literally built a customer. I was not a customer. I was kind of openly anti-Facebook. They created a customer out of me.   They were able to move from customer collection to customer creation. Very hard. Not easy to do. Not many markets do it.   And if you're like, “Oh, I gotta create customers.”  No, you don't... I never have to ask the question, “Where is my customer existing?” Because the Red Ocean is creating my customer.   Did you just get the “AHA”?   Let me repeat that… I never have to ask:   Who do I sell to next?   How do I go create my next customer?   Where does my next lay down sale happen?   ... I don't deal with any of that crap because I know exactly WHAT market I am coming out of.   I have been very careful to make sure that the market is creating the customers for me.   ...Because if they are collecting them only, then yeah, I'm gonna have to answer the question, “Where's my next customer?” But I don't have to do that because I only pick markets that CREATE CUSTOMERS.   It's freakin' incredible!   Frankly, it's the reason why my stuff's been selling so well. It's the reason why I have made moves to very carefully become the Category King of Offer Creation  - because nobody's in it.   Where am I coming out of? I'm stemming out of the sales funnel building world.   Why? Because they're moving from customer collection to customer creation with People like Russell Brunson, the One Funnel Away Challenge, and all the new education that's out there.   There's so much noise in the sales funnel market. It's a safe place for me to consistently find my customers. I dive in and ask, “Is my Red Ocean ready for a Blue?”   I am gonna find a market to sell to that has:   Moved from customer collection to customer creation   New buyers & new sellers   Conflict inside the market   Differing opinions   Lots of options   A lot of product options startin' to pop up in there   A lot of education   The audience is getting smarter - which means I can start selling people who are problem aware but NOT yet solution aware.   ...Timing matters!   The market, (the Red Ocean), is priming my dream customer for the Blue Ocean I want to create.   Do you understand how BIG this is?   Once I’ve found my ripe ocean, then I can go do all my other stuff for:   Sales Message Creation   Offer Creation   Sales Funnels   Publishing   ... all that other stuff that I do.   I'm publishing for the Red Ocean NOT the Blue. The Blue barely exists. The Red Ocean is your market, NOT the Blue.   I want you to feel what I'm takin' about when I say that. I didn't understand any of this stuff when I first started out.   And one of the reasons why everything failed was because I was fighting over the scraps because I didn't know my position in the market.   I know this is deep. This is a lot of theory... it’s not even theory. We always hear the terms dominant and submissive being loosely used when describing our dogs behavior or to describe the method of training being applied. Understanding the natural balance of these two very important behaviors is incredibly important. Often the word dominant construes as aggressive and submissive construes as fearful. These are very different behaviors and are often confused. Healthy levels of aggression and fear are also natural behaviors of communication. However, forward aggression in many instances (NOT ALL) is a product of fear. Fear meaning lack of structure or communication both internal (within the pack), and external (the expectation of the stranger). It is hoped that this presentation will broaden our listeners' exposure to such pervasive Biblical themes as Salvation and Deliverance, and in addition provide a vehicle for memorizing important scriptures.  "σῴζω", by meaning and in translation, indicates variously:  1. to save, to deliver, to rescue 2. to keep safe, to protect 3. to make well, to heal, to make whole, to restore to health 4. to cause to rest, to cause to have peace (i.e., being delivered from strife)   This broadcast presents only those verses containing "σῴζω", which is a Verb -- and not, for example, verses containing the Noun form, "σωτηρία". If the Lord is willing, this will be the first in a series of broadcasts which focus exclusively on presenting scripture by centering around the uses of specific terms. Greek is useful as the language of choice for collating the scriptures in question, since certain primary sources of both Old and New Testaments are available in Greek, whereas the same cannot properly be said of Hebrew.  Due to the source from which the verses were extracted, most of the verses are phrased according to the American Standard Version (ASV), or the Revised Version (RV).  Some of the language has been slightly adjusted in order to make the context and meaning of each verse as intelligible as possible. Served with oven toasted pita strips and pomegranate vinaigrette. Tell your waiter “NO” pita strips! & put the dressing on the side! KARPATHOS CHICKEN Seasoned grilled chicken breast, sun-dried tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, red peppers, dolmades, tomatoes, pepperoncini and halloumi cheese over spring greens. Served with toasted pita strips and mango dressing One more time…..Tell your waiter “NO” pita strips! & put the dressing on the side!   They have soups, more salad, vegetarian “MOUSAKA” as we say in NY or Mooosakaa in the rest of the U.S.   Delicious Hummus…..They also have What I call …..Babaloo! but is actually called…..                     Baba Ganouj…..which is Roasted eggplant spread….. topped with extra virgin olive oil.  The menu is Filled with healthy options! Just Leave the Pita off your plate and chow down on all these healthy vegetables, fish and meats!  Here’s what I ordered the night of the review….  I asked for the best item on the menu……and w/o hesitation, I was told to order……                                 OCTOPUS!!!!! Now…I’ve had “Calamari” before. That makes me think of the movie “Moon Stuck” where Nicholas Cage’s plays “Ronny Cammareri” and the part in the movie, where the lady who works in the bakery says……”Stop it Ronnie, you’re scaring me” In NY…..the Italians say “Cala maaaa” Us NYers barely finish a word. Regular NYers….who are not Italian….say “Calamari”  Getting back on track…..what’s the difference between “Cala Maaa”  AND Octopus? Calamari is the Italian word for “Squid.” Squid has an elongated body with tentacles. The meat is white and firmer than Octopus. When cooked right, it should taste firm but NOT rubbery. Octopus has a round head and body with tentacles. The meat is sweet and not firm. You learn a lot when you research things!   Never had Octopus before. I said…..bring OUT the OCTOPUS!  And….I have to tell you….it was the “most TENDER” Octopus I have EVER had! Grilled octopus marinated in lemon and olive oil vinaigrette with fresh garlic, capers, zucchini and diced tomato . Delicious!   For dinner…….   I ordered the Grilled FRESH Red Snapper.   Now….this comes out as a “Whole” red snapper  …..the entire fish….head, EYES, tail….FISH on a plate! It is marinated in rosemary, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and fresh lemons charbroiled and topped with the house lemon herb marinade. You get a choice of two sides.   I ordered the Roasted Vegetables and Artichoke Quinoa!   I don’t particularly like looking at a FISH Head on my plate, and I certainly don’t like all the bones, but RED SNAPPER is a nice sized fish, where I was able to eatmost of the body meat, w/o biting into any bones.   The RED SNAPPER was cooked Perfectly! The meat was falling off of the fish. Made it easy to eat & not get any bones.    The Roasted Vegetables were carrots and squash. VERY Good. Seasoned well and tender. The QUINOA  was FANTASTIC! Lot’s of YUMMS…..coming out of my mouth! Overall, the meal was absolutely DELICIOUS!   Acropolis ….of course…..is known for it’s Delicious and Authentic Greek food…..but Acropolis….also has…….ENTERTAINMENT!   A Belly Dancer starts the Entertainment!   A beautiful woman dressed for “Belly Dancing” dancing around the entire restaurant, entertaining you while you’re eating.   Then……the BIG entertainment begins! Every Hour there is……. Bouzouki Plate Breaking! What the heck is Bouzouki Plate Breaking you ask? It is a Greek custom of breaking plates during celebratory occasions (weddings) When the music is played from the Bouzouki…(like a mandolin) The manager or owner of Acropolis starts the clapping and moves towards the barrel or bucket. He picks up a stack of plates and then as fast as he can………he starts flinging the plates into the bucket, breaking the plates, with pure passion….until the stack in his hand is gone! This is like done in around 5-10 seconds! FAST! Then ……..the crowd reacts to the demonstration with a HUGE “OOPA” if they are satisfied! OOPA literally translates into “Ooops” but in Greek…..it has taken on the “emotional response” and admiration for Breaking the plates in excellent fashion. So the owner of Acropolis wants to hear “OPA”  And that’s NOT ALL! The waiters & waitresses line up to do “Zorba Dancing” For all you Millenials out there….look up the 1964 film… “Zorba the Greek.” In the movie…..Alexis Zorbas (played by the famous Anthony Quinn) dances to not only relieve his stress, but to be the “inspirational force” that guides him to confront and finally ……. Overcome the challenges he was facing in life and work. Great movie! It’s a moving, uplifting moment at Acropolis! Patrons are waving napkins and throwing them on the floor as a final gesture of their excitement and admiration for the Bouzouki plate breaker.  Lots of fun and great food at Acropolis! The food was fresh, and delicious. The staff were engaging, polite and brought out each dish at the appropriate times. The manager was seen going from table to table making sure the guests were happy. The owner, Sam was fantastic! Not only was a hell of a “plate breaker” I watched him speaking with staff as well as customers, to ensure everyone was having a great evening.   How did Acropolis Rate  …… Acropolis gets a BIG 2 Thumbs up for it’s fresh and healthy food choices. Don’t look at or touch the Pita’s and you will enjoy your meal at Acropolis. Acropolis also gets a HUGE 2 thumbs up for it’s Entertainment! Really breaks up the evening and gets everyone in the place involved and uplifted!   Thanks to Sam for providing top notch food and entertainment for the Tampa Bay residents and tourists.  Acropolis has SIX locations  1.
