Stāsta ērģeļbūves meistars un klavieru tehniķis Jānis Kalniņš Vai zini, ka dažādie klavieru veidi ir vistiešākajā veidā saistīti ar jau viduslaikos eksistējošām taustiņu-stīgu instrumentu formām? Iebūvējot āmuriņu mehānismu klavesīnā vai tangentflīģelī, radās pianoforte – mūsdienu flīģeļa priekštecis. Tas bija neatņemams atribūts pilīs, muižās un publiskās koncertu vietās. No klavihorda sanāca tāfelklavieres. Latviskais nosaukums cēlies no vācu valodas Tafelklavier – galda klavieres. Garās basu stīgas tāfelklavierēm nodrošināja pilnskanīgus basus, kurus nu nekādi nevarēja izspiest no vertikālajām klavierēm. Par pianīnu paraugu kalpoja klavicitērijs. Katrs no šiem klavieru veidiem attīstījās savā ceļā.

In the motion picture 'Ordinary Angels,' Oscar-winning actress Hilary Swank portrays Sharon Evans, a hair dresser in a small town who works miracles to help a little girl named Michelle get a liver transplant. Sharon and Ashley Schmitt, Michelle's older sister join Paul to talk about the film on the 89th episode of The Paul Cardall Podcast. Not included in the film is Ashley's own journey getting a double organ transplant like her sister Michelle. Both Sharon and Ashely share additional experiences that are also not in the film. READ THE BOOK https://encouragepublishing.com/ordinary-angels SEE THE MOVIEhttps://ordinaryangels.movie/ STORY BEHIND THE FILMMichelle Schmitt was known in Louisville, Kentucky as the “snow baby.” The Schmitts waited for over two years for a liver transplant for Michelle, who was battling congenital liver disease. She was born with biliary atresia, the same condition as her sister Ashley. They finally got the long-awaited call on January 17, 1994, when Michelle was three years old and barely 22 pounds. A liver was available, but it was in Omaha, Nebraska. And it was in the middle of a snowstorm. And not just any snowstorm. This was the 1994 Kentucky Blizzard, where temperatures dropped to a record-breaking 22 degrees below zero. There were 16 inches of snow on the ground. Driving would be impossible. Highways were buried and completely shut down. Organs for transplant don't last long outside a body, so there was a short window of time to get Michelle to Omaha for the procedure. This real-life story of a community rallying around a young child is the basis for ORDINARY ANGELS. The film primarily follows hairdresser Sharon, who led the charge in moving the community and re-discovered purpose in her life by fighting for little Michelle. Before the storm hit, Sharon had secured a private plane to take Michelle to Omaha whenever the transplant would be ready. The plan was to drive Michelle to Indiana for the private jet to take her the rest of the way—but now in blizzard conditions, that would be impossible. Sharon immediately called the local radio station and requested that broadcasters ask for help. Suddenly, neighbors called in suggesting they clear the parking lot at Southeast Christian Church to create a makeshift helicopter pad. People took to the streets with their snowsuits and shovels and garden spades—whatever they had available. The Schmitts arrived just in time: grandmother Barbara, father Ed, Michelle, and her older sister Ashley, who'd also undergone the same transplant surgery years before. In a remarkable true story of community care and selflessness, Michelle Schmitt made it safely to Omaha during the storm and successfully received her transplant. She lived to be 30 years old and had a healthy life until she passed away in the spring of 2021. People experience grief uniquely, and normalizing that guilt is often a component of grief is important. Self-reflection is a normal reaction to the death of a loved one, but these self-messages of “I should have done this differently” are not helpful. It is important to learn how to deal with grief healthily to begin the healing process. Fortunately, there are actions you can take to come to terms with your guilt. Here are eight tips for how to cope with guilt and grief: 1. JournalingJournaling is a powerful tool when experiencing grief. Putting your thoughts and memories to paper is a great way to clarify and self-reflect on your feelings and thoughts. It also helps to decrease the intensity of these emotions. Journaling also helps to chart your grief process by reviewing journal entries over time. Journaling can initially feel awkward if you have never tried it before and you are not certain about how to begin, so grief journaling prompts are a great tool to use to help get started. 2. Prioritize Self-CareIt is common to forget about self-care when people are in the midst of grief. This is especially true when guilt is experienced as a part of the grief process. Just getting out of bed can feel like a challenge. People forget to eat, exercise and can self-isolate. Guilt is a burden, and the message that comes with it is, “I don't deserve to treat myself well.” Self-care includes taking care of your physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. You cannot begin to heal and work through grief until you engage in self-care behaviors.Mental Self-Care Examples:Practice mindfulness.Take a break.Play video games.Listen to music.Read a book.Listen to a podcast.Reflect on things you are grateful for. 3. Channel Your Guilt Into Something PositiveIt doesn't really matter if your guilt is rational or irrational. It is important to channelguilt in productive ways to begin to alleviate it. For example, if you have lostsomeone to suicide, work with suicide prevention programs. It will help give you insights about yourself, and learning from others that have had shared experiences can be enormously helpful. It also can offer some comfort in doing something that honors the memory of the person who has died. Apologizing.Making amends.Changing your behavior.Accepting your faults and moving on. 4. Acknowledge Your Feelings of GuiltYou need to be able to give yourself permission to feel whatever comes with the loss of a loved one. If guilt is one of those feelings, explore its roots and what it is really about. Are you being fair to yourself? Is your guilt based on reality, or is something else causing it? You are human, and remember that guilt often arises with grief. Show yourself compassion and learn how to forgive yourself as you explore your guilt and its source. Consider trying some of these strategies.Acknowledge it exists. ...Eliminate negative self-talk. ...Find out if there's a reason to feel guilty. ...Remind yourself of all that you do. ...Realize it's OK to have needs. ...Establish boundaries. ...Make amends. ...Understand what you can control. 5. Join a Grief Support GroupGrief support groups can be a wonderful way to learn how to cope with grief and guilt. It helps to hear that other people are experiencing similar thoughts and feelings. It is also a place where you can get support from others who have been through a loss. Grief support groups are places of support, education, and resources. You can find them online or locally by checking with local mental health centers, hospitals, or organizations associated with the cause of the death of a loved one. GoogleTalk to your pastor or bishop 6. Find Positive ThoughtsThought stopping is the practice of shifting your focus from the guilty thoughts you are having to more positive thoughts. This technique can be taught through behavior modification which involves reshaping negative thoughts into positive thoughts producing healthier behavioral patterns. It involves training yourself using different skills to stop thinking about thoughts that can be harmful to you.Identify areas to change. ...Check yourself. ...Be open to humor. ...Follow a healthy lifestyle. ...Surround yourself with positive people. ...Practice positive self-talk. 7. Share Your Feelings With OthersIf you have trusted close friends and family, you can talk with them and make opportunities to talk with them about what you are feeling. It is important not to keep your guilt feelings bottled up. It also can be helpful to talk with people who know the person who has died. Their insights may help ground your memories and feelings into a more realistic perspective.Take a deep breath. There are many benefits to deep breathing. ...Practice. Constructively sharing your feelings is a skill. ...Identify and accept your emotions. A big part of effectively sharing emotions is correctly identifying your feelings. ...Choose the right listener and the right time. 8. Consider Reaching Out to a TherapistGrief and guilt can be an enormous burden. They can evolve into depression. When this occurs, it may be difficult to manage and cope with grief without outside mental health professionals intervening. Healing cannot begin unless these issues are addressed. A therapist can help to unpack why someone is experiencing guilt surrounding their grief and process the emotions so they begin to ease. Signs you may need private therapyFeeling anxious.Generally feeling overwhelmed with everything.Overthinking and feeling as though you're unable to 'switch off' from your thoughts.Feeling low and more tearful than usual.Getting angry more easily or struggling to regulate your emotions.Sleeping more or less than usual. Throughout my career, I've received numerous personal letters, messages, and comments expressing how my music has provided solace to people, perhaps some of you, dealing with this challenging emotion—a topic that tends to make people uncomfortable, especially in pop culture. I've been deeply moved by these messages. I firmly believe that God understands those who are hurting and knows how to bring comfort. Our responsibility, like anyone else's, is to nurture our gifts and share them. What unfolds after that is in God's hands." He continues, "discussing grief isn't an easy task. Psychologists suggest that the hesitation to delve into grief often stems from the fear that it might bring up our own unresolved feelings or fears about mortality. When faced with someone grieving, many of us fear saying the wrong thing or unintentionally causing more distress. There are also cultural and religious factors at play. Theology can serve both as a blessing and a barrier when discussing death with others." Paul takes listeners through the five stages – denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance, which are often talked about as if they happen in order, moving from one stage to the other. This is not true. Paul concludes with a synopsis of C.S. Lewis book, A Grief Observed, and his personal wrestle with God after losing his wife. On the 69th episode of The Paul Cardall Podcast, Hope Children's Home Administrative Director Matt Higgins joins Paul to discuss a modern day orphanage. Founded in 1968, Hope Children's Home has rescued nearly 5,000 children between the ages of infant to 18 years of age. They discuss their belief that a personal relationship with Christ, combined with an excellent education and a well-rounded sports program is the key to Hope's success. ABOUT HOPE CHILDREN'S HOMEFounded in 1968, Hope Children's Home has rescued nearly 5,000 children between the ages of infant to 18 years of age. The type of children we care for are not juvenile delinquents, but rather children that, through no fault of their own, find themselves in a situation of needed rescue. Some children simply come out of a situation where a parent just needs a little help. Whether it's our campus in Tampa, New Mexico, or Honduras, each child is equally important in God's eyes and ours. Each campus is able to care for the children in a beautiful family atmosphere while instilling core Christian values. We believe that a personal relationship with Christ, combined with an excellent education and a well-rounded sports program is the key to Hope's success. Our school program begins in our Nursery and continues through the 12th grade. We are proud to say that over 95% of the students who graduate from Hope Christian School continue to college. Hope Children's Home receives no State or Federal funding but rather is entirely supported by churches, private individuals, businesses, and organizations. The faith that we exercise each and every day for our needs is a faith that is passed on to the children as they see God's hand of provision. The children see first-hand that God will never leave them nor forsake them. For over 50 years, Hope Children's Home has lovingly cared for children in need and tried to make a difference in their very impressionable lives. We feel that God has called us to help rebuild the broken lives of these children and to build the bridge, when possible, between home, parent, and child. The rewards of our labor are the thousands of children across the country who are now productive adults raising their own children in the nurture and admonition of the Lord. On the 67th podcast episode, Paul Cardall shares 9 ideas on how we can discover or re-discover our gifts, particularly our non-so-obvious gifts. Knowing our gifts shapes our life's purpose. From asking others to let you know, looking for gifts in adversity, praying for help to recognize our gifts, and more. Overall, our gifts were give to help others. This helps us experience greater joy in our lives. Discover your gifts: It seems everybody always says, “If you only knew how great you are.” Well, the truth is, sometimes you just don't know how great you are. When we don't feel like the smartest, the nicest, the best looking, the funniest, or the most talented, our self-assurance seems to disappear. But think about this: if we look out into the vast cosmos and see the constellation of stars with all its mystery our minds are expanded. I drove my daughter into a desert free from man-made lights so we could see the brilliance of each star. As a 10 year old, she recognized and pointed out to me various constellations. As she looked up in wonder I noticed her eyes reflected the light of the stars. Each star, like every type of flower has its purpose. We give red roses as a symbol of romance, yellow for friendship, pink for appreciation, lavender roses for love at first sight. Flowers, like stars, are part of the same family. Each has its purpose. As I think about the vast cosmos, solar systems, all the stars and the variety of roses and every other creation, I'm humbled by what God has organized. God's majesty is everywhere. God's creation surrounds us. And yet, at the heart of creation, and according to the Bible, each of us, particularly you are His greatest creation. So great that He gave us a Savior to redeem us so that who you are, who your neighbor is, who I am, can fulfill our destiny. Each of us was created by God. We are unique and diverse like roses and stars, but what separates us from those incredible creations, is that we are God's children. God made you. God made you unique. As such, the Lord of all things has given us unique gifts and talents to help us fulfill our divine potential. As we discover these gifts, we are reminded of our divine worth as His children, and we are able to draw closer to Him and help others do the same. As I've traveled performing my music or speaking to an audience, many of you come up to me and say, “I have no talent” or “God has given me any special gifts.” And yet, those who tell me this are some of the most faithful, humble, wonderful people I've met. Their devotion to their faith humbles me. And so, for any of you who don't know or believe you have talent and gifts let me give you 9 ideas to help you to discover your gifts, or at the very least help you discover or re-discover your not-so-obvious gifts. Now, grab a pen or pencil, or open your notes on your smart phones, and write these down. I will also put them in the podcast notes. While you're getting your tools to write this down, I want to thank Justina Lichner for this information that I agree will help you. Ok. You got your notes open? Just a reminder, please subscribe to this podcast. If there is someone who needs this message today—email them and share this podcast. Ask others to let you know.Sometimes we don't see in ourselves what others can see in us. Ask a friend, relative, or someone close to you at work or church to write you a note about a gift or talent they see in you.Look for gifts in adversity.During hard times we can choose between letting our best qualities or our worst qualities come out. When times are tough, focus on discovering and using your best qualities and gifts.Pray for the help to recognize your gifts. Our Father in Heaven knows our divine potential. If we have a difficult time seeing that in ourselves, He can help. You can pray for help to recognize your gifts.Don't be afraid to branch out.Do we only develop the gifts that we already know we have because we're too afraid to do something we haven't done before? Now's the time to try something new and discover unknown gifts.Search the word of God.God helps us discover and develop our gifts through clues found in His word—usually through invitations to act. For example, the 4th chapter of James says: “Do not speak evil against one another, brothers and sisters. The one who speaks against a brother or sister or judges his brother or sister, speaks evil against the law and judges the law. But if you judge the law, you are not a doer of the law but a judge” (James 4:11). What gifts could you develop from this invitation? The gift of speaking kind words, the gift to calm others, the gift of restraint, and more. And that's just from one verse!Look outside yourself.Sometimes our best qualities come out when we're not focusing on ourselves but focusing instead on how we can work with and help others. When we do that, we'll see that we have many Christlike gifts.Think about people you look up to.Who are some of your role models? You can make a list of all of the gifts your role models have and, instead of focusing on which gifts you don't have in common, celebrate discovering the ones you do.Reflect on your family. What gifts do you have that your siblings, parents, or grandparents have too? Go further! Research family history, discover stories, and identify even more gifts you share with your family.Pray or Receive a Prayer BlessingYour prayer could ask God about gifts you have and should develop, and that prayer could also point you to the path that will lead to the discovery of other new gifts and talents. Or ask someone to pray over you. Think about what they said. Now, if we know our gifts how can we help others discover their gifts. We can often see things in people they don't see in themselves. For example, my wife has the gift of discipline… She has spent years in the gym taking care of the physical body or temple God has given her that houses her spirit. She takes this so seriously that with exercise, she also focuses on what is taken into her body. We talked years ago about how she doesn't want to vandalize or damage the gift of having a physical body. So with the gift of discipline she chooses foods that will heal and repair the body. She also focuses what she puts on her body. Are their products with toxic chemicals damaging the temple she's been given. And so you see, she has a gift of discipline, a gift for understanding how to take care of the body, and the gift to teach and share with others what she has learned. I'll share with you another example of a gift I had no idea about. I don't believer this gift shows up all the time or can I access this gift without the circumstances being right. The famous scripture were two or three are gathered in my name, so will I be also. One of the men in my small mens group that meets every Tuesday in a roundtable discussion, after reading the word of God, shared some personal struggles. Though he didn't go into detail, I was moved and looked at one of our leaders, who parenthetically has the gift to remember everyone's names, even the new people, well I looked at him and he knew. We needed to pray over this brother. We gathered, laid hands on him, and a few different men led the prayer. I felt impressed to also bless him. I couldn't remember what I said… But this morning, that same leader said, “Last week what you did was a gift. You knew what to say that gave our brother confidence in God so God can work in him.” The gift to listen, the gift of understanding, the gift to know someone needs our prayers, and the gift to be vulnerable enough to communicate what we feel God wants to implore into the heart of the one seeking divine guidance. The gift of fellowshipping, ministering, or simply being a friend without an agenda are the great gifts we can do… Help Others Discover Their GiftsWe see things in others that they may not be able to see in themselves. This week, share those things with a friend or family member. Here are some questions to ask yourself that can help you discover the gifts of others. What is something they've done to help you? What do you like about them? What are they good at?What are they trying to get better at? There is NOBODY like you… YOU are a child of God, never forget it. The Creator of the Vast Cosmos is real. He loves you. He is not only award of you, but cares for you. We can go to him in prayer, and how great is that. Think about it—we can talk to God and share with God our hopes, fears, dreams, things we are grateful for and things we need help overcoming… You know years and years ago, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone. The ability for someone to communicate their love from thousands of miles away is a miracle. The ability to not only call on a man made device, or a cell phone, and talk to someone we love and to hear them say, “I love you, I miss you, I'm can't wait to be with…” We've been able to get within our control the elements and through technology talk to loved ones across the globe. With technology, and invisible air waves, control over the elements, we can bring into our living room, Presidents, Kings, and all kinds of unimaginable things… If we can do this—I have no doubt the creator, whose children we are, deserves the credit because God has created each of us unique and given to us divine gifts. The gift of knowledge often goes to our head—so let's not forget that without our creator we wouldn't exist. And because of our creator and the various gifts he shares with us, our life has purpose. And that purpose is to love whoever God puts into our lives. And as we love, we are loved also. Fouad discusses growing up in Lebanon during a civil war between Maronite Christians and Muslims. He talks about how much hate was in his heart until the words of Jesus inviting people to love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you. Fouad says doing this began to change his heart. They talk about about differences between Islam and Christianity and how the messages of each religion is misunderstood by both groups. Most muslims have never met a Christian or read the Bible. It can help people access spiritual feelings and peaceful emotions.”Steinway & Sons endorsed him as one of the world's finest pianists. With more than 3 billion lifetime streams, Paul Cardall is a Dove Award-winning musician, composer, and producer. His music is frequently categorized as Classical, Christian and New Age. With 11 No. 1 Billboard albums and 30 million monthly listeners Paul Cardall is one of the most listened to recording artists of our time. Paul's music was born out of his compassion to help others. He was born essentially with half a heart and before his first day was finished, surgeons cut into his infant body to save his life. He would spend virtually all of his life in and out of hospitals and recovering from heart surgeries. He received a heart transplant in 2009. Surviving and adapting to a life of chronic illness has helped Paul understand the trauma imposed, particularly on a young person and their families. Paul has made it his life's mission to create and share piano music that is healing both physically and emotionally. Two of the many projects Paul's involved with include partnering with the The Ryan Seacrest Foundation to donate keyboards to children's hospitals nationwide. Paul and his wife, Kristina, who is from Cleveland, Ohio and a former Wall-street Analyst, established scholarships for students affected by medical bills associated with congenital heart disease because he believes in getting an education regardless of terminal diagnosis. Paul served as an executive board member of the Saving tiny Hearts Society, which seeds grass roots money for federal grant research in the field of congenital heart disease. In 2011, Utah State Board of Regents awarded Paul Cardall with an honorary doctorate. Paul has collaborated with Grammy winning artists CeCe Winans and Rachel Yamagata. He released a soundtrack album with a handful of artists for the The Broken Miracle, the No. 1 best-selling Amazon novel by J.D. Netto inspired by Paul's life living with only half a heart. Collaborations include songs and performances with David Archuleta, Tyler Glenn (Neon Trees), Ty Herndon, Thompson Square, Matt Hammitt and many others. In 1999, Paul founded Stone Angel Music, a record label, whose catalogue consists of Billboard charting albums by cellist Steven Sharp Nelson, guitarist Ryan Tilby, pianist Jason Lyle Black and David Tolk, Ryan Stewart, and various artist projects with a handful of former American Idol contests like Ashley Hess, Jordon Moyes, and Kenzie Hall. Born into an Amish family, Silicone Boone talks to Paul Cardall about exploring space and understanding our humanity with Silicone's album Reaches. Listening to his music and in our conversation, it's clear that his upbringing in an Anish community provided the songwriter with a large vocabulary and a mind of curiosity that flows in his poetic lyrics. Like Paul Simon, his lyrics roll off the tip of his tongue in beauty and mystery. There aren't a lot of artists with a story as unique and fascinating as that of rock musician Silicone Boone. For those that aren't aware of the sub-groups of the Amish, Old Order is the most traditional of the religious group, completely shunning the outside world. He spent 9 years of his childhood free from the conveniences of modern technology. So, imagine the world the young man discovered when Silicone's family left behind their heritage for a new faith. Today he hails from Campbellsville, KY as a husband and father. Silicone Boone's curiosity of our history as humans, the creation of the world, and our role in the vast cosmos are themes in his album, The Reaches, that I have on repeat. I'm honored to share this singer songwriter with you today on my podcast.http://siliconeboone.com/https://www.instagram.com/siliconeboone/ ABOUT THE HOST PAUL CARDALLOfficial Website - http://www.paulcardall.comFacebook - http://www.facebook.com/paulcardallmusicYotube - http://www.youtube.com/cardallInstagram - http://www.instagram.com/paulcardallLISTEN TO HIS MUSICAPPLE MUSIC - https://music.apple.com/us/artist/paul-cardall/4312819SPOTIFY - https://open.spotify.com/artist/7FQRbf8gbKw8KZQZAJWxH2 Forbes writes of Paul Cardall, “His music creates an atmosphere where you can unwind, ponder, meditate. It can help people access spiritual feelings and peaceful emotions.” Steinway & Sons endorsed him as one of the world's finest pianists. In 2018, Anthem Entertainment Group, one of today's most powerful publishers, acquired Paul's catalogue along with the albums he produced for Stone Angel Music, in one of the biggest instrumental acquisitions of the music industry's history. Host Paul Cardall has been a fan of singer songwriter Aaron Espe for more than two decades. The musicians discuss Aaron's unique gift of writing songs that reconnect adults to their childhood. They discuss Aaron's latest album, Up North, which explores his childhood in a small Michigan town where he would eat "Liver and Onions" just to be with his grandfather as well as get a haircut to see his uncle and barber Duane. They talk about his grandmother in a rest home called Sheltering Oaks, which he wrote a song about. Paul asks about being a father today and what Aaron is doing to help re-create a time of innocence for his four sons. They talk about getting the kids off the iPads to explore outside. What's it like to be the only Latter-Day Saint (Mormon) in a Southern Divinity School? Mark Mabry is a practicing Latter-Day Saint, formerly known as The Mormons, who moved to the bible belt where he entered The Vanderbilt Divinity School in Nashville, Tennessee. Paul and Mark discuss his faith and his Vanderbilt classroom made up of a diversity of students from various Christian denominations. Students earn a Master of Theological Studies while others are in the Masters of Divinity Program. Most will go on to become Pastors or Chaplains. Because some Christian churches don't believe Latter-Days Saints are Christian, Mark and Paul explore LDS theology and Mark's Christianity. They also talk briefly about Mark's work as an American photographer, cinematographer, and activist, best known for his photographic depictions of Jesus. In 2008 and 2009 Mark published two Reflections of Christ photo books recreating scenes from the life of Jesus. Psychotherapist Tracy Livecchi, LCSW, joins Paul Cardall to discuss healing hearts and minds of people born with an illness that requires a life time of medical care. Both Tracy and Paul were born with complex congenital heart defects. Although congenital heart disease or CHD is the least funded of all major illnesses, CHD remains the leading cause of infant related deaths. However, because of advancements in medicine and technology millions of people have survived and adapt to what would be considered a normal life, although their lives have required a life-time of medical care and surgical procedures. They swap stories and go into detail about the miracle of life and how Tracy's parents were instrumental in working with doctors to secure her survival. Because of the lack of information for lifelong patients, Tracy and her colleague Liza Morton, PhD have written "Healing Hearts and Minds: A Holistic Approach to Coping Well With Congenital Heart Disease." ABOUT TRACY LIVECCHI, LCSWTracy writes on her website: In terms of my training, I received my Masters Degree in Social Work from Rutgers University. Grammy winning new age pianist Peter Kater and Paul Cardall, also an award winning pianist, discuss Peter's career and the history new age music. They talk about building successful and prosperous independent music careers in a genre often misunderstood and overlooked by the commercial market. ABOUT PETER KATERWebsite: http://www.peterkater.comFacebookTwitterYoutubeInstagram Listen to Peter KaterSpotifyApple MusicAmazon Music Peter Kater was born of German parents in the Bavarian City of Munich. At the age of seven, not long after moving to New Jersey, his mother insisted that he take classical piano lessons. At the age of 18 Peter left New Jersey with his backpack and his music books and hitch-hiked all around the continental US for over a year. He slept in parks and on beaches and roadsides across the country while stopping to play piano at restaurants and lounges for tips and meals. After logging in over 30,000 miles on the road Peter landed in Boulder, Colorado, finding comfort and inspiration in the Rocky Mountains which reminded him of his childhood upbringing in the Bavarian Alps. Shortly thereafter he started listening to the music of pianist Keith Jarrett; the avant jazz group, Oregon; and the Paul Winter Consort. This opened a whole new musical world and he began improvising 3-4 hours a night at clubs and lounges throughout the Boulder/Denver area sometimes 5 to 6 nights a week. After several years he tired of playing clubs and lounges and quit all his engagements and began renting out small churches and self-promoting small concerts through out Colorado. In 1983 Peter released his first album of solo piano compositions and improvisations entitled SPIRIT. His music was very well received and started charting in the Top 10 of National Contemporary Jazz Airplay charts and within a short couple of years Peter went from playing small churches to performing at 3,000 seat concert halls and at national jazz festivals at the age of 27. In 1985, Actor ROBERT REDFORD asked Peter to play at the then brand new Sundance Institute & Film Festival in Utah. Peter became the featured performer at many of Redford's “green” political fundraisers and events attended by many Hollywood A-list actors, directors and celebrities such as Alan Alda, Sidney Pollock, James Brooks, Dave Grusin, Laura Dern, Mathew Broderick and Ted Turner to name just a very few. In his concerts around Colorado, Peter started to share the stage with some of his favorite artists from his teen years such as DAN FOGELBERG and JOHN DENVER. John Denver asked Peter to coordinate the music for his ground breaking Choices for the Future Symposiums every summer in Aspen, Colorado and also invited him to perform at concerts in Japan and at World Forum events performing for dignitaries and celebrities such as Mikael Gorbachov and Shirley McLain. These collaborations with John Denver went on for almost 10 years until John's untimely death in 1997. Peter's music also caught the attention of New York City's legendary director and Circle Rep Theater co-founder, Marshall Mason and Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Lanford Wilson. Peter's music became the score to their Tony-Award winning Broadway production of Burn This starring John Malkovich and Joan Allen which ran for over one year. As the newest member of their “A-team” in the following years Peter scored the music for 11 On- & Off-Broadway dramatic plays receiving widespread critical acclaim. As Peter's music spread across the world he scored more music for television and films and worked closely with his favorite environmental and humanitarian organizations such as Greenpeace, the National Wildlife Federation, the Nature Conservancy and ChildReach. In 1989 a close friend gave Peter a cassette called Earth Spirit by Native American flutist, R. CARLOS NAKAI. Peter was completely taken by the beauty and earthiness of the Native flute. Peter tracked down Nakai and asked him to collaborate with him on a recording. In the studio they felt as if they'd been playing together forever and their first album, Natives, was completed effortlessly in just a few hours. When recording with Nakai, Peter felt he was embarking on a little “personal” indulgence, temporarily diverging from his thriving mainstream contemporary jazz career. But to his surprise, while his recordings like Coming Home, Two Hearts, Gateway and Rooftops were charting in the Top 10 of National Jazz charts; the new recordings with R. Carlos Nakai quickly became immensely popular in the alternative market selling 100's of thousands of units each and generated a solid and much more personal fan base. Because of the deep satisfaction Peter felt in co-creating this beautiful music with Nakai, he quickly lost interest in the “jazz” genres and shifted his focus to music of a more intimate “healing” nature. Peter then recognized a need for music in support of the healing arts that could actually aid in deep personal healing and transformation. He recorded albums like Compassion and Essence that provided not only a loving supportive musical landscape but also an invitation to dive deeply and safely into one's essential emotional and spiritual nature. Many more CD's in support of the Healing Arts followed as did more recordings with R. Carlos Nakai, seven of which charted in the Top 20 of Billboard's New Age chart. Peter's love and appreciation for the earth and indigenous cultures inspired him to invite more indigenous musicians to record on various projects with him including Native American vocalists Joanne Shenandoah, Bill Miller and Rita Coolidge; Native American flutists Robert Mirabal, Joseph Firecrow, Mary Youngblood, Douglas Blue Feather, Kevin Locke; and South American flutists Jorge Alfano and Ara Tokatlian. Peter also composed two songs for the immensely popular Sacred Spirit recording which sold over 5 millions copies in Europe alone. Peter's music continued to grow and evolve and found it's way into the 2000 and 2004 World Olympics, the Kentucky Derby, the Wild World of Sports and countless television shows like Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, LifeStyles of the Rich & Famous and Bay Watch to name just few. He's scored the music for acclaimed television series like How The West Was Lost; Wild America; Civil War: The Untold Story; Eco-Challenge and Joseph Campbell's Mythos series and films like Sirius, The Legend of Secret Pass and 10 QUESTIONS FOR THE DALAI LAMA. He's given concerts throughout the USA, Europe, Japan and South Korea including performances at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, JFK Stadium in Washington DC, Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver and the United Nations in NYC where he received the prestigious United Nations Environment Leadership Award. Possibly one of Peter's strongest attributes is his love for collaboration with other artists such as Singer/songwriter Kenny Loggins; Tibetan flutist, Nawang Khechog; Sting guitarist Dominic Miller; Sacred Chantress Snatam Kaur and of course his legendary collaboration with Native American flutist, R. Carlos Nakai. He's also enjoyed performing and recording with many other talented musicians such as virtuoso reedman Paul McCandless; Maverick Cellist David Darling; Peter Gabriel's legendary Bassist, Tony Levin; and renowned Brazilian cellist Jaques Morelenbaum. Peter has often been called prolific and is said to have the “gift of melody”. His love and enthusiasm for the creative process, self-exploration, the healing arts and the natural world continues to inspire a well-spring of composing and recording. In a thriving career spanning over 3 decades and going strong, Peter Kater has recorded over 60 albums resulting in the sales of millions of units; has scored the music for well over 100 television and film productions including 11 On- and Off-Broadway dramatic plays; ands the recipient of dozens of awards and honors including 14 Grammy® nominations and a Grammy Award win for his 2017 Dancing On Water recording and his 2019 Wings recording. But most importantly his music has uplifted, soothed, healed and inspired the lives of millions of people all around the world. Ira Cook spotlights the music of popular pianist Roger Williams (born Louis Jacob Weertz; October 1, 1924 – October 8, 2011) who was an American popular music pianist. Described by the Los Angeles Times as "one of the most popular instrumentalists of the mid-20th century", and "the rare instrumental pop artist to strike a lasting commercial chord," Williams had 22 hit singles–including the chart-topping "Autumn Leaves" in 1955 and "Born Free" in 1966–and 38 hit albums between 1955 and 1972. He was a Navy boxing champion, played for nine U.S. Presidential administrations, and had a gold Steinway & Sons grand piano model named in his honor.
After being hurt and disaffected by her church experience, with thoughts of suicide, how did former Christian Worship Leader Megan Brown, rediscover her value to God and redefine her purpose? All Heart with Paul Cardall speaks to the 24 year old independent singer/songwriter from Hendersonville, Tennessee about her church experience and the music she's recorded that's giving voice to people like Megan who've been hurt. They talk about the challenge some Christians have of not understanding how to separate a healthy and productive relationship with God from a relationship with a Church of imperfect humans whose intentions are not always pure. Megan offers advice for pastors in hopes that the thousands of fans resonating with her songs will be heard and understood in their pain. Listening and understanding the hearts of parishioners over preaching is the most important action Megan believes a Church can do to prevent guilt, shame, anxiety, depression, and suicide.Megan Brown's thought-provoking songs like “If I'm Honest” and “Open Up Your Mind” authentically tackle self-doubt, anxiety, depression and suicide among Christians. Her experiences and gift of music is shaping her purpose, which is to explore songs filled with authenticity and honesty, acknowledging our insecurities, doubt, pain, struggles and scars while endlessly pursuing a relationship with a God who knows our hearts, a God who bleeds, a God who weeps, the God whose own suffering and scars remind us that we are not alone... Psychiatrist and a Pioneer in near-death studies, Elisabeth Kubler-Ross, wrote, “The ultimate lesson all of us have to learn is unconditional love, which includes not only others, but ourselves as well.”Megan says, “I make music for people who have been hurt by people in church and have almost left the faith because of it.”Discover Megan on Social MediaTikTok InstagramFacebook YoutubeSpotify Paul Cardall is an artist who has given a new meaning to the phrase, a change of heart and how he used this radical change to take his music to an unexpected place. Tashi Wada joins Nikita Gale and Alexander Provan to speak about technologies that claim to capture the souls of performers. Wada presents a composition for a “high-resolution player piano” and asks how we discern between human expression and technical perfection, how we listen to virtuosos and machines. He speaks about the pandemic-era vogue for liveness at home, the displacement of pianists by piano rolls (or proprietary software), and the differences between people and marionettes. And, with Gale and Provan, he listens to Conlon Nancarrow, Glenn Gould, Perry Como, advertisements for hi-fi systems, the ghost of Art Tatum, and the stars of Hologram USA Theater.Tashi Wada is a Los Angeles-based composer and performer who founded and runs the label Saltern. His most recent album, Nue, was released by RVNG Intl. in 2018.The composition presented on this episode, Table of Visions, was commissioned by Triple Canopy as part of a residency at the Hammer Museum in Los Angeles, and written for the Steinway Spirio, a player piano designed to record and replay live performances. (Triple Canopy recently published an essay about the composition with recordings of two sketches, excerpts of which are played on this episode.) With Gale and Provan, Wada speaks about the history and future of “high-resolution” technologies, which aim to approximate (or supplant) liveness—and, increasingly, are aided by precise records of all that we say, do, and play. They discuss the age-old dream of perfect fidelity as manifest in musical automata, cutting-edge stereos, and holograms of Tupac and Michael Jackson. And they ask how the pursuit of performances that exceed human capabilities change us as listeners as well as laborers. In this episode, Gale, Provan, and Wada speak about Philip Auslander's Liveness: Performance in a Mediatized Culture (Routledge, 1999); Heinrich von Kleist's “On the Marionette Theatre,” 1810; and the work of Patrick Feaster, a specialist in the history, culture, and preservation of early sound media. In order of appearance, the music and other recordings played on this episode are: Steinway & Sons, “The Features of the Steinway & Sons SPIRIO | r,” 2019; Glenn Gould playing Bach's “Contrapunctus IV,” “Glenn Gould on Bach,” Sunday Concert, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, 1962; Perry Como, “Goodbye, Sue,” (Victor, 1943); Conlon Nancarrow, “Study For Player Piano No. 13” Studies for Piano Player (Other Minds, 1977); “Study For Player Piano No. 42,” Conlon Nancarrow: Studies for Player Piano, Vol. V (Wergo, 2018); a film by RCA that introduces the company's high-fidelity stereo system, 1957; “Variations on Glenn Gould,” Telescope, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, 1969.Medium Rotation is produced by Alexander Provan with Andrew Leland, and edited by Provan with Matt Frassica. Tashi Wada composed the theme music. Matt Mehlan acted as audio engineer and contributed additional music.Medium Rotation is made possible through generous contributions from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and Nicholas Harteau. This season of Medium Rotation is part of Triple Canopy's twenty-sixth issue, Two Ears and One Mouth, which receives support from the Stolbun Collection, the Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation, Agnes Gund, the National Endowment for the Arts, the New York State Council on the Arts, and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs in partnership with the City Council.
Un bellísimo disco de música navideña con piano en clave de jazz con el británico Simon Mulligan: Christmas at Steinway Hall, producción para el sello Steinway & Sons en el año 2017.
Paul Cardall battled long odds from birth, eventually triumphing over a serious heart disability to earn distinction as an outstanding composer and pianist. In 1997 he first won widespread notice by setting author Richard Paul Evans’ No. 1 NY Times best-seller The Christmas Box to music. Cardall’s achievements range from releasing 11 chart-topping albums, winning the Gospel Music Association Dove Award for Instrumental Album of the Year, collaborating with Grammy-winning singer CeCe Winans, Audrey Assad, The Piano Guys among other distinguished artists. With over 2 billion streams, Cardall is one of the most listened to Steinway & Sons sponsored artist in music business. His entrepreneurial activities include founding and directing the Stone Angel Music label and recording studio, promoting medical research and providing scholarships for congenital heart disease through his foundation. Cardall’s music has included works for piano, vocal, band and orchestral settings. On his latest album, Peaceful Piano, he returns to his solo performance roots while exploring complete real-time improvisation for the first time. Paul's Mormon story includes: Growing up in Salt Lake City, Utah, learning to "fit in" as a child and youth with a heart condition. Serving an LDS mission, and marrying in an LDS temple. Paul's rise to celebrity as a piano performer - first in Salt Lake City, then joining the LDS Church speaking/inspiration circuit, and ultimately becoming a world-renowned musician, with hundreds of millions of Spotify downloads. Paul's receipt of a human heart transplant, and his recovery. Paul's struggles to maintain a healthy/happy marriage, ultimately leading to his disfellowshipment from the LDS Church and a shaming public divorce. Paul's remarriage to a non-LDS woman, and his invitation to co-author a Mormon hymn with LDS Church apostle David A. Bednar called "One by One." Paul's loss of testimony in the LDS Church, and his discovery of a new faith in traditional, non-denominational Christianity. Cardall’s story is continuing to evolve as an artist, author and humanitarian. His upcoming album The Broken Miracle, which will be available for pre-order this December, was inspired by J.D. Netto’s biographical fictional novel, based on real events in the artists life from being born with only half a heart, enduring a series of surgeries, which culminated in a heart transplant. While waiting for a donor heart, the pianist’s brother was tragically killed. The album will feature several award-winning guests including David Archuleta, Ty Herndon, Thompson Square, Neon Tress’ Tyler Glenn and more. We hope you enjoy this episode! Paul is a fantastic human.

In this special episode, Eric Janssen speaks with Feidner about her long love affair with music and her approach to the art of sales.
