In this episode the guys break down why everyone should be using isometrics — covering the three types (yielding, overcoming and intra-rep), why they lower blood pressure better than any other form of exercise including medication, how they build strength specifically at the angle you train, how they reduce pain by up to 45% after just one rep, and why tendons strengthen faster with isometrics than traditional lifting. They also get into Adam's Caldera Lab pre-podcast skincare routine and why Sal noticed his skin on the big screen TV, the games kids used to play that are now banned from schools (butts up, Red Rover, baby britches), the Functional Patterns versus Layne Norton beef and why attacking other people in the fitness space is a losing brand strategy, the science of gratitude and how daily practice literally reshapes the structure of your brain, why a cortisol spike from exercise suppresses your next cortisol response making you more resilient all day, Justin showing up to look at a building covered in rock dust after moving four tons of stone alone, liposomal delivery technology and why it matters for creatine, curcumin and glutathione, and Adam's hibachi chef birthday party that took a very unexpected turn. In this episode, Angela speaks with Eric Helms about what the evidence actually says. Eric explains why progressive overload matters more than simply lifting the heaviest weight possible, how women can build muscle effectively across a wide range of rep ranges, and how to structure resistance training for both long-term health and body composition. They also unpack training frequency, sets per muscle group, proximity to failure and why the best programme is ultimately one you can recover from and consistently follow. KEY TAKEAWAYS You Don't Have to Lift Extremely Heavy — Bone health doesn't require maximal lifting. Progressive Overload Matters — Keep increasing the challenge as you get stronger. A Wide Rep Range Works — Muscle can be built effectively across roughly 6–20 reps. Train Close to Failure — Aim to finish most sets around 1–3 reps from failure. Start With 6–12 Sets — Aim for around 6–12 sets per muscle group each week. Frequency Can Be Flexible — Training each muscle 1–3 times per week can work. More Isn't Always Better — Extra training delivers diminishing returns. Want to go deeper? This episode highlights key points from our discussion on recognizing cognitive changes before Alzheimer's disease reaches a later stage. We talk through early signs that can be easy to dismiss, including changes in memory, word-finding, emotional tolerance, recognizing faces, and navigating familiar places. We also explore why a change from your own normal cognitive function matters and why earlier evaluation may create more opportunity to understand what is affecting the brain. The discussion also looks at the proposed shift from the brain's normal “connection” processes toward a protective response when it perceives physiological stress or other insults. Want to go deeper? Best of all, you will connect with your Celtic heritage. Please tell one friend about this podcast. Word of mouth is the absolute best way to support any creative endeavor. Here's something worth celebrating. In most of the world, clean energy is now the cheapest electricity ever produced. Solar and wind cost less to build and run than anything that came before, and those prices keep dropping. That means lower bills, cleaner air, and good jobs, often right in your own community. The future we've been hoping for is already showing up on the grid. And here's the best part. You have a real say in how fast it arrives. So much of this is decided close to home, by city councils, county boards, utility commissions, and state representatives. These are the people who choose what gets built and how quickly your neighborhood feels the benefits. When you show up, they listen. So vote in every election, especially the local ones. Get to know where the folks on your ballot stand on clean energy, and cheer on the ones moving things forward. Talk to your neighbors. Show up to a meeting. Every voice adds momentum, and momentum is exactly what turns a bright possibility into the world we live in. The music will always be here. Let's build a future worth playing it in. Patrick Rieger emailed: "A New Band! Devil Take the Women Hi Marc, Some exciting news here in Pittsburgh for people who like Irish music. An Irish band formed just a few years ago, Devil Take the Women, the name taken from "Whiskey in the Jar". The band is made up of Lauren on acoustic guitar and main vocals, Megan on fiddle and vocals, and Chris on the drums. The Irish bands and musicians I have seen and heard about in Pittsburgh have been around for many years. So to have a new band is pretty cool. My family and I, plus our friend Abby, saw Devil Take the Women for the first time on July 18 at Mullaney's Harp & Fiddle Irish Pub, and it was a great show. They have lots of energy, and a great stage personality. They throw in a few non - Irish songs from time to time, but most of the time it's Irish, which is good for us who have not been happy with the decline in the amount of Irish music played in the pubs for a number of years. We will be seeing them again, and hopefully get some more friends to join us." Martha Clancy emailed: "Hi Marc, I am a Celtic harpist Interested in your e - book about how to promote music in the digital age. You have actually featured me in the past. I used to be able to make money with my CDs on Qvc network and other outlets but now find it very difficult. I have composed many songs in the traditional manner which I would like to promote and find a way to make an income stream with the music I've already produced. I have four CDs I have collaborated on several others. Someone has put much of my music on iTunes which you can search Martha Clancy and iTunes for but I don't get any income from that. Welcome to the latest Midlife Minute. This episode unpacks ongoing research on Lp(a), explores how women's lipids change during the perimenopause-to-menopause transition, and clarifies what we can do about it. Stay tuned for more! IN THIS EPISODE, YOU WILL LEARN: How total cholesterol, LDL, and ApoB tend to rise most steeply around the final menstrual period, rather than increasing gradually with chronological aging Why women should have their Lp(a) checked both before and after menopause How oral and transdermal estradiol can affect LDL, HDL, triglycerides, and Lp(a) differently Why I recommend including ApoB when checking your lipids during the perimenopause window How your lifestyle can reduce your cardiovascular risk, even when your Lp(a) is elevated Why omega-3 fatty acids and commonly used lipid medications do not lower Lp(a) Why supplements are not replacements for statins in genuinely high-risk patients I review the various PCSK9 inhibitors currently available, how they are administered, and their effects How a CAC, a CT angiogram, and an AI-assisted CT angiogram can help women and their providers determine how aggressive their approach should be when Lp(a) is elevated Connect with Cynthia Thurlow Follow on X, Instagram & LinkedIn Check out Cynthia's website. If you've ever been controlled by someone mentally or emotionally, then you know how crushing it is to your confidence, your self-esteem, and your belief in yourself. You question HOW this person convinced you to do or say or believe things that you KNOW deep down to your core are not true? WHAT did they do to get you to fall for the lies and change so much, without you even frikin' realizing it? And HOW can you make sure it doesn't happen to you again?? Well homie, the reality is that this type of manipulation happens more often than you might think, 1 on 1 in toxic relationships and sometimes even whole groups of people at a time in a cult. So in this episode of Women of Impact, I wanted to get to the bottom of how good, well-intentioned, educated, “normal” people like you and me can fall into the trap of a controlling person like a cult leader or narcissistic romantic partner, and literally leave behind their life, family, job, money, friends, belief system, sanity, and everything about themselves for this person. And whether it's coz of a cult, a toxic partner, or a guy at work that keeps trying to convince you to join this “amazing self-help group”, if you think it “won't happen to you” – well homie you're actually that much more likely to become their next target and victim!!!! And that's why today's guest is none other than the ultimate cult expert and deprogrammer, Rick Alan Ross. This guy is an aboslute LEGEND when it comes to cults!!We go deep into: - the type of people who start cults.- how cults like NXIVM and Scientology bring people in.- what specifically makes a person more vulnerable to saying yes and “drinking the Kool-aid”.- strategies used by notorious cult leaders to gain control and brainwash people (and you'll be surprised by what they have in common with your toxic ex!!!).- HOW you can actually avoid getting into a cult or toxic relationship in the first place.- & so much more!!!This episode is truly FILLED with the knowledge you NEED if you want to have any hope of spotting the cult leaders, con men, and toxic boyfriends BEFORE they can rope you, or anyone you love, into their manipulative world and cut you off from the life YOU want to live!!! What happens when the version of yourself that built your success is no longer who you want to be? In this episode of Superwomen, author, content creator, and entrepreneur Serena Kerrigan talks about the version of herself she had to outgrow in order to become more confident, more ambitious, and more fully herself. Serena built an entire career around confidence before realizing she was still hiding behind a version of herself. She admits she was sometimes overcompensating for a fear of truly being seen. She opens up about learning to stop editing herself on dates, in relationships, and in her career, and why the right partner should never require you to make yourself smaller. Because real confidence isn't about becoming louder. Sometimes, it's about no longer needing the armor. Serena's new book, Let's F*cking Date: Become the Prize, Enjoy the Ride, and Never Settle Again, is out September 22, 2026. Learn more and order your copy at LetsFuckingDate.com. She calls it puberty in reverse. It can last a decade. And most husbands have no idea it's happening. LIVE WITH DR. HIRSCH, THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8TH. She is joining the Front Row Dads community for a live session with Q&A on how men can support the women in their lives through menopause. Free for members, and a limited number of guest passes for everyone else. Details at frontrowdads.com/menopause Dr. Heather Hirsch is board-certified in internal medicine, founded the Menopause and Midlife Clinic at Brigham and Women's Hospital, taught at Harvard Medical School, and has treated thousands of women through perimenopause and menopause. She flew to Austin for this one because, in her words, most of the conversation about menopause happens with women, and it's the men who share a bed, a marriage, and a family with them who never get the briefing. This is that briefing. She defines the terms every husband should know, explains what actually happens as the hormones flicker out like a failing light bulb, and walks through what it does to sleep, mood, memory, weight, skin, and sex. Then the practical half: how to bring it up without saying "this explains everything," why tracking symptoms beats blood work, the bedroom at 65 degrees, why so many women see five to seven doctors before the right diagnosis, and what real treatment looks like. Her story is the first 20 minutes. The practical breakdown starts at 19:56. Find a trained clinician: menopause.org or heatherhirschdirectory.com Her books: Unlock Your Menopause Type and The Perimenopause Survival Guide Follow her: @heatherhirschmd Want a taste of what Front Row Dads is actually like? Thirteen years and four sons later, he runs The Fathers Guild, and this conversation lays out what he's learned. In this conversation, you'll learn:The four parenting quadrants (neglectful, permissive, authoritarian, authoritative) and why most dads bounce between the two extremes without realizing itWhy "gentle parenting" as most people practice it is actually permissive parenting, and what the research-backed version really looks likeWhy parenting tactics don't change long-term outcomes for kids, and the one thing that does: who you are and the environment you createThe real definition of a boundary: it's not what your kid can't do, it's what you will do when they do itThe $5 yelling challenge Pat used to break a lifelong pattern of reactivity in a single monthHow The Fathers Guild uses monthly challenges, weekly Monday Ledger check-ins, and scored accountability to help dads grow the way athletes doIf you're buried and don't know where to start: pick one thing, try it for a month, and get some men around you while you do it.Resources Mentioned:The Fathers Guild — https://thefathersguild.comJamie Glowacki (parenting educator, boundaries framework) — https://www.jamieglowacki.comThe Gottman Institute (repair after conflict) — https://www.gottman.comMen and Women of Discomfort (MWOD) — https://mwod.io Hearing the call? Episode 215 of Wrestling Tonight begins with the increasingly strange situation surrounding WWE and AAA Worlds Collide, which takes place September 26 in the Chicago market on the same night as AEW All Out. Fightful Select reported that WWE did not have broadcast plans listed internally as of Wednesday, despite a card featuring CM Punk, Rey Mysterio, Penta, Rey Fenix, Dominik Mysterio, Roxanne Perez and talent from WWE, NXT and AAA. That raises a bigger question than simply where the show can be watched. WWE created all the optics of direct counterprogramming by running the Allstate Arena while AEW runs All Out at the NOW Arena, yet nine days before the event there still isn't a confirmed live broadcast. We discuss whether WWE could potentially be reducing the scope of the head-to-head, while making clear there has been no reporting that WWE changed its plans because of AEW. There is also speculation that Worlds Collide footage could eventually surface on Club WWE, similar to the Stephanie Vaquer vs. Liv Morgan title match. Nothing has been confirmed, but if WWE ultimately uses Worlds Collide as exclusive or delayed content, it creates a completely different discussion about what WWE wants this event to accomplish. Is September 26 primarily about competing with AEW in Chicago, or could WWE see greater value in using desirable crossover content to make Club WWE more important? We look at that potential tradeoff and why the eventual distribution decision could completely change how this event is viewed. Elsewhere, Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling has a new Women's Champion. Priscilla Kelly defeated Gisele Shaw to end Shaw's reign of more than a year, with the title change airing only days after Shaw's exclusive NWA contract was announced. Shaw is already the NWA Women's Television Champion and has identified the NWA Women's World Championship as her next goal, while Priscilla Kelly immediately moves into a prominent position for MLP and will defend against Nikki Storm at Northern Rising on October 3. AEW All Out continues to take shape with Kazuchika Okada defending the AEW International Championship against Tommaso Ciampa in a fresh Psycho Killer vs. Rainmaker matchup. Rather than allowing Tommaso Ciampa to float around the roster after his arrival, AEW is immediately putting him opposite Kazuchika Okada in exactly the type of matchup that demonstrates the value of adding another experienced wrestler to an already deep roster. Hangman Page, Bandido and Brody King have also earned an AEW Trios Championship opportunity, but they won't know their opponents until Swerve Strickland and The New Level defend against The Demand on the final Dynamite before All Out. Darby Allin and Steven Borden will face Kyle Fletcher and Kevin Knight in an eliminator to determine the next challengers for whoever leaves Chicago with the AEW World Tag Team Championships. We discuss why AEW having championship stories moving both into and beyond All Out makes the surrounding television matter. Will Ospreay vs. Jon Moxley headlines an increasingly loaded Chicago card, while Adam Copeland and Christian Cage defend against FTR and The Young Bucks in a three-way ladder match, and Brawling Birds defend the AEW Women's Tag Team Championships against Divine Dominion in a Chicago Street Fight. The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic is also officially returning after a two-year absence, this time with an expanded 14-team field featuring talent from NXT, AAA, Evolve, Raw and SmackDown. NXT Tag Team Champions Vanity Project, Brad Baylor and Ricky Smokes, and AAA Tag Team Champions El Hijo de Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno have been confirmed and will receive first-round byes, while Julius Creed and Brutus Creed are also officially part of the tournament. We look at why the cross-brand format gives WWE an opportunity to make this Dusty Classic feel different from previous versions and why the eventual bracket needs to take advantage of the talent available. With eleven teams still to be announced, WWE has enough room to create genuinely different matchups rather than making this another mostly NXT tournament with a handful of outside appearances. NXT also has a new number one contender as Mason Rook defeated Tony D'Angelo and Saquon Shugars to earn the next shot at NXT Champion Grayson Waller. Tristan Angels pulled the referee out of the ring during a Saquon Shugars nearfall before Tony D'Angelo's back gave out while attempting Dead to Rights, allowing Mason Rook to capitalize with a top-rope splash and secure the victory. Grayson Waller confronted Mason Rook to close NXT, setting the stage for the next championship program. We discuss why the physical contrast gives NXT a simple story to work with and why Mason Rook doesn't need to become Grayson Waller's equal on the microphone. He needs to become the massive problem standing between Grayson Waller and keeping his championship. Because Mason Rook is big, he's bad, and he'll body slam your dad. Plus, we look ahead to another loaded week across wrestling as the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic begins on NXT, Swerve Strickland and The New Level defend the AEW Trios Championships against The Demand on Dynamite, Moose puts his career on the line against Frankie Kazarian on TNA Impact, Money in the Bank qualifying continues on SmackDown and Andrade El Idolo defends the AEW National Championship against Daniel Garcia on Collision. We also preview the major events coming up on the calendar, including AEW All Out and WWE & AAA Worlds Collide on September 26, NJPW Destruction in Kobe on September 27, WWE Money in the Bank on October 10, TNA Bound for Glory on October 11, CMLL/RevPro FantasticaMania UK and AEW WrestleDream on October 17, AAA Heroes Inmortales on October 24 and NXT Halloween Havoc on October 31. Episode 215 covers a week where the biggest story might be an event we still don't know how we're watching. WWE spent months creating the perception of a fight with AEW on September 26, but the lack of a confirmed Worlds Collide live broadcast raises legitimate questions about what WWE actually wants the event to accomplish. Add a loaded All Out card, Tommaso Ciampa going directly after Kazuchika Okada, Priscilla Kelly becoming MLP Women's Champion, the return of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic and Mason Rook emerging as Grayson Waller's next challenger, and there is plenty to break down across WWE, AEW, NXT, MLP and the rest of the wrestling world.

Nick and Myron are back with another episode of the Tapped Out Wrestling Podcast, digging into some of the biggest business and industry stories changing the landscape of pro wrestling.Could WWE's relationship with Disney become much bigger than the current ESPN deal? With rumors involving Disney properties, special events, streaming content and even potential destination experiences, we look at how TKO continues to attach WWE to some of the biggest companies in entertainment.Japan is also becoming an interesting battleground. WWE is heading to Netflix while AEW has announced a new home on Hulu Japan. We discuss the very different approaches both companies are taking as they try to grow internationally without necessarily replacing Japan's established wrestling scene.Plus, AEW All Out has sold out despite WWE and AAA running Worlds Collide in the Chicago market on the same night. Does that show how strong AEW's core audience really is, and could head-to-head scheduling become much more common? We also debate the controversy surrounding Stephanie Vaquer's Women's World Championship victory over Liv Morgan in Chile. WWE made the complete match exclusive to Club WWE, leaving some fans asking whether major storyline moments and championship changes should ever be locked behind another paid service. Then we turn our attention back to the independent scene with Indy Rewind, covering the latest from 1FW, Kraken Pro, AWE and ACTION, before Making the Drive previews a packed weekend of wrestling throughout Georgia. Are WWE's corporate partnerships making the company stronger than ever? Can AEW continue succeeding when WWE counterprograms its biggest events? And where should WWE draw the line between premium exclusive content and something every fan should be able to see?
During the interwar years, Vietnamese society witnessed a rapid change in the way women looked. Rejecting the model of a sequestered maiden with blackened teeth and long hair, they embraced a vivid palette of colors—and a colorful lifestyle to match. Before the war, Vietnam would have seemed like an unlikely place for a beauty industry to thrive. Virtuous young women were expected to hide their natural beauty, not manipulate it with makeup or flaunt it at a beauty contest. Yet ordinary women began seeking out the latest fashions—to great public consternation. In Beauty and the Nation: Women, Culture, and the National Image in Interwar Vietnam (Columbia UP, 2025), Christina E. Firpo explores the development of beauty culture in this period, showing how women's faces and bodies became contested sites for envisioning what it meant to be Vietnamese in the modern world. She considers dress patterns, lip-lining tutorials, hairstyles, physiques, and beauty pageants alongside new technologies of media, transportation, and leisure and the anxieties they provoked. The everyday decisions women made about their appearance, Firpo argues, were ways to stake a claim to the roles they wanted to play in the new society taking shape around them. Drawing on a vast array of sources, Beauty and the Nation: Women, Culture, and the National Image in Interwar Vietnam (Columbia University Press, 2026) offers fresh insight into the tumultuous political, economic, social, and cultural changes that swept across Vietnam during this crucial period.Christina E. Firpo is professor of history at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. She is the author of Black Market Business: Selling Sex in Northern Vietnam, 1920–1945 (Cornell University Press, 2020) and The Uprooted: Race, Children, and Imperialism in French Indochina, 1890–1980 (University of Hawai'i Press, 2016).Camellia (Linh) Pham is a PhD student in Comparative Literature at Harvard University.
