Yo Quiero Dinero: A Personal Finance Podcast For the Modern Latina
Let's talk about the conversation that sends me over the edge every single time: the gender pay gap, and what it REALLY costs women of color. This week I'm joined by Jocelyn Frye, President of the National Partnership for Women & Families, to break down what's actually driving the gap (spoiler: it's not "women's choices"), why the national averages hide what's happening to Latinas and Black women specifically, and what policy changes could put real money back in our pockets. We get into the wealth gap math (we're talking a MILLION dollars over a career, mi gente), the motherhood penalty, why DEI rollbacks are making things worse, and what you can actually do right now if you find out you're getting paid less than your coworker.WE GET INTO:00:00 — Intro: Why we're still talking about the pay gap in 202602:15 — What are we actually measuring when we say "pay gap"?04:17 — Debunking the "it's just women's choices" myth06:37 — The real numbers: 76 cents, 54 cents, and what the average hides08:24 — Why education alone doesn't close the gap10:35 — The unpaid care work baked into how workplaces are built11:47 — The wealth gap: what losing $900K–$1M actually looks like13:23 — Finding power in a hopeless-feeling conversation16:27 — The motherhood penalty, explained19:46 — Why so many moms are choosing entrepreneurship instead20:38 — Black and Latina moms as breadwinners22:40 — Do salary transparency laws actually work?23:57 — What to do if you find out you're underpaid26:28 — How DEI rollbacks are showing up in real workplaces30:24 — The "trad wife" pushback and what it means for women's choices35:06 — Jocelyn's 3 policy wishes for women's financial security37:17 — State level wins and what's next39:54 — Grounding policy in your actual paycheck43:15 — What you can do right now, no Congress required48:00 — What gives Jocelyn hope51:23 — How to support the National Partnership for Women & FamiliesKEY TAKEAWAYS:→ Latinas earn closer to 54 cents for every dollar paid to men, and the gap widens further when you break it down by race and part-time status.→ Education alone won't close this gap; the same degree, same experience, and there's still a pay gap. This is systemic, not individual.→ Black women lose an estimated $900K over a 40 year career because of the pay gap. For Latinas, that number can hit $1M.→ Motherhood changes everything financially. Moms who step out of the workforce to care for kids come back behind, and most never fully catch up.→ Caregiving is invisible labor with a real cost. Workplaces were built around a male default that assumes someone else, usually women, will handle caregiving for free.→ DEI rollbacks aren't just political theater, they're making it "safer" for employers to avoid hiring women and people of color, and harder to document discrimination at all.→ Salary transparency actually works. Posting pay ranges and banning salary history questions closes gaps faster than you'd think.→ You have options if you find a pay gap. Document it, talk to HR, and know that local civil rights and know your rights organizations exist for exactly this.→ State policy is already working. Comprehensive paid leave, universal pre-K, and childcare caps are already law in some states, and they're the blueprint for what's possible nationally.CONNECT WITH JOCELYN:

Annie Sargent talks with Elyse Rivin about two women honored in the Panthéon. Geneviève de Gaulle-Anthonioz and Germaine Tillion both joined the French Resistance as young women. Both got arrested. Both survived deportation to Ravensbrück, where they met and became lifelong friends. Listen to this episode ad-free Annie and Elyse trace what happened next: one fought poverty for decades, the other became a pioneering ethnologist and later negotiated during the Algerian War of Independence. It's a hard story, but a rewarding one. Annie also shares a Calder exhibition worth planning a trip around, plus a warning about pickpockets targeting tourists in Paris. In June, a federal park ranger wrote down a license plate on Independence Mall. Three months later, Philadelphia is running the strangest death investigation in the city since Gary Heidnik, and it has no bodies in it.This is the second episode on the Olney house. Since I last covered it, the numbers have changed completely. Four missing women became seven. Two believed dead became five. Five percent of the digital evidence reviewed became thirty percent, out of more than a million images and videos, with fifty eight separate human beings identified inside them.Robin walks through everything that broke at the September 16th press conference: the new name, Nicole Fusaro, and the video Philadelphia police say shows Raymond "R.C." Horsch tightening a zip tie around her neck with a plumbing tool. The sixth woman her family asked not to name. The seventh woman who has no name at all. The 2017 metadata that gives investigators a window and gives one defendant an alibi. The sixteen survivors who were found alive and refused to help police, and the reasons that is completely rational. Then the part that makes this case nearly unprosecutable: some women who appear dead in that footage have been found alive. R.C. Horsch spent fifty years manufacturing images of women pretending to die, and he was good enough at it that homicide detectives in 2026 cannot tell his performances from his crimes. He published the disposal method in a 2014 book under his own name, described himself as a natural at playing a perverted serial killer on a 2013 podcast, and died in his own bed at eighty two without ever being charged. And the spine of the episode: every single time the state of Pennsylvania was already standing in the room. A 1985 psychiatric report that a retired FBI agent says describes a potential serial killer. A 2009 search warrant that turned up other women's IDs and a police chief who never heard what became of them. A 2016 sit-down interview with the last man to see a missing woman alive. A 2025 search of the house itself, written up as a narcotics matter. Families pointing at the address for years.Five chances. Zero response. One parking ticket.Plus: a cousin taking the Philadelphia Police Department to the DOJ Civil Rights Division, five urns with three tentative answers, fifty containers of something sitting in a federal lab in Chicago, and a safe sealed in a foundation in Bucks County that nobody has opened.Housekeeping this week: Robin is back from a week in Philadelphia, which included Circa Survive, the Mütter Museum, the Liberty Bell, Reading Terminal Market, two cheesesteaks, a near-death experience in the pit sixty seconds into the first song, and a serious argument about Kathleen Hanna, Bikini Kill, and who a room's default actually serves.Their names are Gabrielle Amarando, Amy McHale, Maribel Fresses, Nicole Fusaro, and Blair Tonzelli. There are two more.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/we-saw-the-devil-a-true-crime-podcast--4433638/support.Website: http://www.wesawthedevil.comPatreon: http://www.patreon.com/wesawthedevilRobin's Instagram: http://www.instagram.com/robin_wstdTwitter: http://www.twitter.com/WeSawtheDevilInstagram: http://www.instagram.com/wesawthedevilpodcastTikTok: tiktok.com/@wesawthedeviltruecrime
The Horsch investigation has exploded: seven missing women are now connected to the Philadelphia property, five are feared dead, and investigators are examining more than one million pieces of digital evidence. Retired NYPD Sergeant Bill Cannon breaks down the alleged strangulation video, the 58 people identified in recovered images, the missing bodies, forensic evidence and why investigators are preparing to search the Chew Avenue property again. What happened inside this house—and could investigators ultimately be building multiple homicide cases? Hosted by Simplecast, an AdsWizz company. In this solo episode of Beyond Retirement, Jacquie reflects on a powerful idea from her recent conversation with Jeff Corcoran, founder of Kinwood: family stories can disappear quickly when no one takes the time to ask for them. The episode opens with the familiar regret many people experience after losing someone, namely, realizing there were questions they never asked and stories they will never hear.Retirement often gives people something they may not have had for years: time to slow down, reflect, and reconnect. Jacquie explores why this stage of life can be the perfect opportunity to preserve family history, ask better questions, and think more intentionally about legacy, not only in terms of money, wills, or estates, but also in terms of values, wisdom, memories, and example. This episode is a reminder that legacy is not simply something left behind. It is something built every day through conversations, relationships, decisions, mentoring, volunteering, and the way we live our values.KEY IDEAS:Family stories can disappear quicklyMuch of a family's history exists only in memory. If no one asks the questions, entire chapters may be lost.Retirement creates space for meaningful conversationsMore time can allow for reflection, reconnection, and curiosity. These conversations do not need to be formal or complicated.Legacy is more than moneyEstate planning matters, but personal inheritance matters too.Stories, values, lessons, and family context are part of what we pass forward.Legacy is built while we are livingEvery conversation, decision, relationship, and example contributes to it.Retirement can be a time to become more intentional about that impact. One meaningful question can open the doorThe episode encourages listeners to choose one person and ask one thoughtful question this week. The goal is not a perfect interview, but genuine listening.QUESTIONS TO REFLECT ON:Who in my life has stories I would regret not hearing? What question have I been meaning to ask but keep putting off? What family story do I know that younger generations may not know? What values do I hope people learn from my example?Am I living the legacy I hope to leave? What would I want my grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or younger friends to understand about my life? What personal lesson have I learned that might help someone else?Where am I already living my values well?Where am I falling short of the legacy I want to build?Who is one person I can speak with this week?READY TO RAMP UP YOUR RETIREMENT JOURNEY?Start here: https://beyondretirement.ca/start-here/Book a FREE call with Jacquie: https://calendly.com/jacquiedoucette/discoveryCheck out the Beyond Retirement Library: https://placeforbooks.comMentioned in this episode:Women in the Middle - Suzy RosensteinCheck out the podcast: https://suzyrosenstein.com/podcastWomen in the Middle Podcast

If you're over 40 and gaining weight around your middle despite doing everything right, cutting calories may be the wrong place to start. In this episode I break down why protein - not restriction - is the first thing I look at with almost every woman I work with. We cover what's actually happening to your metabolism in perimenopause, why low protein can quietly drive your cravings, how much you really need, why breakfast is the meal most women get wrong, and the 30g "absorption limit" myth you've probably been told for years. I also walk through a 12-week trial in women aged 30–60 where the higher-protein group improved their body composition - with no calorie deficit and no exercise programme - and I give you the caveats too. Protein isn't just about building muscle. It's about building biological capacity. Timestamps:00:00 Perimenopause Weight Gain: Why Cutting Calories Backfires 02:08 Why Protein Is the Nutrient That Changes Everything 04:39 How Much Protein Per Day - and Why Breakfast Matters Most 07:28 Can You Absorb More Than 30g of Protein at Once? 09:47 12-Week Study: More Protein, Better Body Composition 12:30 How to Start: Three Simple Steps VALUABLE RESOURCES Timeline - Support your mitochondrial health: Timeline Mitopure delivers Urolithin A at the clinically studied dose to support cellular renewal and energy production, helping counter the natural decline in mitochondrial function that comes with age.
What if you haven't officially quit, but somewhere along the way, you stopped really trying? You're still showing up. You're still doing what needs to be done. But the energy, hope, and drive you once had are gone.In this episode of The Driven Introvert, I'm sharing three signs you may have quietly given up, and what it can look like to push through hard times when disappointment, failure, or overwhelm have taken more out of you than you realized.I also share a personal story from one of the hardest seasons of my life. After earning my master's degree, I struggled for years to find meaningful work. I applied for jobs, faced rejection after rejection, and eventually reached a moment when I knew: this is where people give up.I was sitting at my kitchen counter, crying over yet another rejection email, when I had to make a decision. Would I stop trying? Or would I get up and do the next thing I could do?In this episode, we'll talk about three signs you may be stuck: you've stopped moving, you've stopped believing in possibilities, and you've stopped fighting for your own dreams. We'll also talk about what those signs can look like in everyday life—and why recognizing them isn't about judging yourself. It's about becoming aware enough to get unstuck. And if you're an introvert who feels overwhelmed by the constant noise, negativity, expectations, and energy of the world around you, there's a part of this conversation especially for you. Sometimes the question becomes, “What's the point?” What's the point in dreaming again, trying again, or putting yourself out there again? But you don't have to fix everything around you to push through hard times. Sometimes you simply need one positive action. One prayer, one conversation, one idea you're willing to revisit, or one small step toward the life and work you know you still care about. If you've been wondering how to get unstuck after disappointment, failure, or a long season of feeling drained, I hope this episode reminds you that you can begin again. You may have slowed down. You may have lost hope. You may even realize that you've quietly given up.But you can still push through hard times, take the next step, and start moving again. What is one positive action you can take today? Thanks for being here! This may be one of those episodes you are tempted to skip because nobody really wants to hear that their nightly glass of wine could be working against them. But this is not a lecture about why you should never drink again. In this episode, I'm having a very honest conversation about alcohol, especially for women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond. We talk about how drinking may affect sleep, cortisol, cravings, estrogen metabolism, liver health, insulin sensitivity, weight loss, and the way your body handles stress as you move through perimenopause and menopause. But this conversation goes much deeper than calories and hormones. I share my own history with alcohol, addiction, social pressure, unhealthy relationships, and the moment I realized I had to break the cycle for my daughter. We talk about why drinking can become such an easy way to numb stress, dissatisfaction, loneliness, relationship problems, motherhood, or simply a life that does not feel the way we want it to. The goal is not to shame you into quitting. It is to help you become honest about what alcohol is giving you, what it may be taking from you, and whether it is still serving the woman you are becoming. In this episode, we cover: Why alcohol can become harder to tolerate in midlife The connection between alcohol, cortisol, and stress Why drinking may worsen sleep even when it helps you fall asleep How poor sleep can affect hunger, cravings, insulin sensitivity, and weight Alcohol and estrogen metabolism Why drinking may make midlife weight loss harder The social pressure women face when they decide to stop drinking My personal history with alcohol and addiction Why alcohol can become a tool for avoiding uncomfortable parts of life How drinking can affect relationships, parenting, and self-identity The moment I knew I needed to break the cycle for my daughter How to start examining why you drink Finding your personal leverage for cutting back or quitting Why addressing the reason you drink matters more than sheer willpower Who This Episode Is For This episode is for the woman who tells herself she only drinks to unwind. Maybe it is one glass of wine after work. Maybe it is a few drinks on the weekend. Maybe you know you are drinking more than you would like, but you are not sure you are ready to look too closely at why. It is especially for midlife women who are struggling with stubborn weight gain, poor sleep, anxiety, stress, hormone symptoms, or feeling disconnected from themselves and wondering whether alcohol may be playing a bigger role than they realized. This episode highlights key points from our discussion on recognizing cognitive changes before Alzheimer's disease reaches a later stage. We talk through early signs that can be easy to dismiss, including changes in memory, word-finding, emotional tolerance, recognizing faces, and navigating familiar places. We also explore why a change from your own normal cognitive function matters and why earlier evaluation may create more opportunity to understand what is affecting the brain. The discussion also looks at the proposed shift from the brain's normal “connection” processes toward a protective response when it perceives physiological stress or other insults. Want to go deeper? In this episode, Angela speaks with Eric Helms about what the evidence actually says. Eric explains why progressive overload matters more than simply lifting the heaviest weight possible, how women can build muscle effectively across a wide range of rep ranges, and how to structure resistance training for both long-term health and body composition. They also unpack training frequency, sets per muscle group, proximity to failure and why the best programme is ultimately one you can recover from and consistently follow. KEY TAKEAWAYS You Don't Have to Lift Extremely Heavy — Bone health doesn't require maximal lifting. Progressive Overload Matters — Keep increasing the challenge as you get stronger. A Wide Rep Range Works — Muscle can be built effectively across roughly 6–20 reps. Train Close to Failure — Aim to finish most sets around 1–3 reps from failure. Start With 6–12 Sets — Aim for around 6–12 sets per muscle group each week. Frequency Can Be Flexible — Training each muscle 1–3 times per week can work. More Isn't Always Better — Extra training delivers diminishing returns. Want to go deeper? The Efficient Advisor: Tactical Business Advice for Financial Planners
Need a hack to finally get better at delegation—without feeling like you have to lower your standards? If you're a financial advisor who knows you need to get more off your plate but keeps thinking, “It's just faster if I do it myself,” this episode is for you. I'm breaking down Gary Vaynerchuk's 15-80-5 framework, a simple approach that lets you maintain ownership of the vision without owning every step of the execution. In this episode you will learn:How the 15-80-5 framework can help you delegate projects without sacrificing quality. Why spending more time communicating your vision upfront can prevent delegation breakdowns. How stepping out of the middle 80% helps your team develop ownership, judgment, and confidence. Why “different” doesn't necessarily mean “wrong”—and how accepting that can make you a better leader. The goal of delegation isn't to lower your standards. It's to build a business capable of meeting those standards without requiring your involvement in every tiny detail. The 15-80-5 framework gives you a practical way to provide clarity, give your team room to execute, and still ensure the finished product meets your expectations—so you can stop being the person everyone is waiting on.Register for the Quin x Efficient Advisor Show & Tell HERE!Check out The First 100 Days Course: The Advisor's Blueprint for a Remarkable Client Experience HERE!Learn more about T2MWorks HERE!
