Kathleen from Plenty of Sunshine Travel met with Lori from Seabourn Cruises for this week's cruise chat.   .  Lori did a very comprehensive brand overview. We looked at the suites, talked about the dining venues, and what makes Seabourn unique from the other lines.  . Seabourn's entry-level suites are SO spacious and luxurious! The Wintergarden suite boasts the best view of the ocean! Plus, a stunning hot tub on the veranda. You will want to soak in this hot tub after a day of hiking or biking.  The Wintergarden Suites feature large windows, a six-person dining area, a whirlpool bathtub, and a guest bath. It also has a convertible sofa bed for one, a pantry with a wet bar, a glass-enclosed solarium with a tub and day bed, two closets and two flat-screen TVs. The dining choices are aplenty you will have difficulty deciding which venue to enjoy each night.   .  We then discussed an itinerary that Lori just came back from. She visited Norway! (totally on my bucket list!) I love this itinerary because Seabourn is one of the few luxury cruises that surpass the Arctic circle.  The itinerary of the 14-day Norway cruise that Lori took is as follows: . Departing from Copenhagen Skagen, Laerdal, Loen, Alesund, Svolvaer, troll fjord, Tromso, Storstappen Island, Honningsvag, The North Cape, Nordtfiord, Stognefjorn, Stavanger, Farsund, Returning to Copenhagen Wow! Now, I really want to go on this cruise.   .  Then we discussed MY cruise. I will be visiting London, England, before the cruise then, on Sunday, I fly to Copenhagen from London to embark on a journey of a lifetime.   .  I am really excited about this cruise! My cruise also departs from Copenhagen. ~ which was named the best port in Europe. ~ For a good reason! Come and find out why.   After Copenhagen, we will visit Gothenburg, Sweeden, followed by Two Days at Sea, Heimaey, Iceland, Grundarfjordur, Iceland, Diúpivogur, Iceland, Ending in Reykjavik, Iceland. . I would love for you to join me on this cruise! It is going to be fantastic!  I would enjoy meeting with you all each evening so we can do "Port Talks With Kathleen," and I can answer your questions and decide which excursion is best for you. After my cruise, I plan on renting a campervan and exploring Iceland for a few days along the ring road.   I plan on snorkelling in the waters at Silfra and touching the two tectonic plates!  From Google: "Silfra is the only place to dive or snorkel directly in a crack between two tectonic plates. The earthquakes of 1789 opened up several fissures in the Thingvellir area, but the Silfra fissure cut into the underground spring filled with glacial meltwater from the nearby Langjökull glacier." The Silfra Fissure in Iceland's Thingvellir National Park straddles the Eurasian and North American continental plates. I can NOT wait!   .  Would you like to join me???  Email me at Info@PlentyofSunshineTravel.com, and I will respond as soon as possible. The new court is located on the ship's top deck, so picklers can enjoy the fun of their favourite game and take in beautiful ocean views all at once. While Carnival Conquest has become the first Carnival ship to feature a permanent pickleball court, the game can be played on board several other ships across the Carnival fleet as well – with equipment recently added to most ships featuring basketball courts, where the game can be played. Pickleball joins several other popular activities as part of Carnival Sport Square, which includes facilities for games such as mini golf, volleyball and basketball. Carnival Conquest's pickleball court is one of several recent ship enhancements, which also includes the addition of Carnival's new signature livery which features a stunning red, white, and blue hull design. This is the first time that I have met with MSC, so we did a great brand overview so that you can learn about their cruise line together with me. . I really love that the atrium is so gorgeous and glittery and full of glamour. Even the stairs have Swarovski crystals in them! . MSC currently has 23 ships in the water and will launch one new ship every year until 2027. This means that you can enjoy 17 brand-new ships by 2027! . Their brand new ship MSC Seascape is so well laid out, and there is a plethora of exciting activities to choose from for all ages to enjoy, making it perfect for a multi-generational family trip. . One of the many itineraries that we discussed is: Copenhagen, Keil, Denmark, Flaum Norway, Alesund, Norway, Hellesylt/ Geiranger Norway. . Patrick described the difference between Bella, Fantastica and Aurea and what you get with each level. MSC's yacht club is a ship within a ship experience. It is a pampering experience for your entire voyage! . MSC's fly and cruise program are worth a look to see if this would be beneficial to add to your cruise! . MSC ground and air operations are aware of where you are at all times, and if there are delays, the cruise will wait for you. You also get MSC ground transfers. . An example of an itinerary with the Fly and cruise package is: Saint Maarten, St Kitts, St John's Antigua, Guadeloupe and Martinique. . With multiple departures, including December 17, 31, January 14 & 28, February 11 & 25 and March 11 & 25. The starting price for this with airfare is $1622.03. A keel-laying ceremony took place at Finnish shipyard Meyer Turku to officially mark the start of the revolutionary ship's physical construction, with Royal Caribbean and Meyer Turku senior executives and teams in attendance. The keel laying, a longstanding maritime tradition, involved a 3,000-ton crane lifting a massive steel block that is placed into the new ship's building dock and on top of freshly minted coins, which represent the shipyard and cruise line. The coins are meant to bring luck during construction, and they will be retrieved and given to Icon's captain and crew before setting sail.Icon will set sail next year with the latest innovations and signature features Royal Caribbean's teams have imagined and reimagined in bold, new ways, including a shift toward cleaner energy. The first of three Royal Caribbean ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG) – the cleanest fossil fuel available to cruise ships today. Combining LNG with a lineup of the cruise line's proven applications, such as shore power connection and waste heat recovery systems that repurpose excess energy to help power the ship's operations, Icon will be the next important step in Royal Caribbean's journey toward a clean-energy future.Signed, sealed, delivered… Celebrity Beyond. Exactly 20 years ago – on 5 April 2002 – the first two ships in the fleet were christened A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA in Rostock. A-ROSA celebrates the anniversary on board its ships with an A-ROSA United Event, where guests celebrate together with the crew until late at night. With the introduction of the A-ROSA brand, river cruises were offered for the first time to a younger clientele – detached from conventions, casual, active and full of highlights on board and ashore. The company has always remained true to this concept.Review of the christening of A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNAAfter a construction period of only twelve months in the Neptun Yard Rostock, the two innovative river ships A-ROSA BELLA and A-ROSA DONNA received their official names during a double christening ceremony on 5th April 2002 in Rostock's city harbour.Godmother of A-ROSA BELLA was the 18-year-old The Honourable Anna Sterling, daughter of Lord Sterling of Plaistow, Chairman of P&O Princess Cruises. A-ROSA DONNA was christened by Anja Mager, 19 years old and an office management trainee with Seetours in Rostock. After an experience ship tour and reception in the coffee house on board, the guests were invited to the dinner “La BELLA DONNA” with live entertainment in the Nikolaikirche Rostock.Immediately after the christening, the two 860-ton ships left the Rostock overseas port expertly packed and secured on a barge for the Danube delta.History of A-ROSAThe A-ROSA brand was founded in 2000 by Seetours, the German offshoot of P&O Princess Cruises. Shortly after the deployment of the first two Danube ships, the company was taken over by Deutsche Seereederei in 2003 and the Danube fleet was expanded by two more ships. The Rhône was introduced as a new trade lane in 2005, on which A-ROSA STELLA and LUNA have been cruising ever since. In 2009, the first cruises on the Rhine started and the financial investor Waterland bought A-ROSA. After three classic Rhine ships, two Rhine-Main-Danube ships were put into service in 2012 and 2014 with the A-ROSA SILVA and FLORA. In 2013, Jörg Eichler came on board as managing director and introduced the premium all-inclusive fare and family cruises with Kids Club from 2014.With the Seine, the second French cruising area was added to the portfolio in 2017. After the takeover by the British financial investor Duke Street in 2018, the A-ROSA ALVA set sail on Portugal's Douro. In the 20th anniversary year of 2022, a total of twelve A-ROSA ships will be sailing in five European destinations. In May 2022, the A-ROSA SENA, the most innovative ship in the fleet, will join them, offering more space for the A-ROSA concept – spacious balcony cabins, a dedicated Family Area with Kids Club, several restaurants and bars as well as a particularly large wellness and fitness area. Thanks to a hybrid drive system with battery storage, it is the most climate-friendly cruise ship on Europe's rivers. A-ROSA also presented its new orientation from 2023, where even more quality and individuality will be offered with a PremiumPLUS range. And more... The honored godmothers include:Alma Deutscher, Godmother of Viking Gymir – A musical phenomenon, Alma captivates the classical world with her talents as a violinist, pianist, composer and conductor, and at just 17 years old was hailed as the “new Mozart” at an early age. She recently appeared on an episode of Viking's award-winning enrichment channel, Viking.TV (Anne Diamond Welcomes Back Composer and Musician Alma Deutscher), where she discussed her upcoming concert series, which will be exclusive for Viking guests on select river voyages visiting Vienna.Helen Deutscher, Godmother of Viking Egdir – A violinist, pianist and vocalist, Helen is an accomplished musician who honed her musical and performance skills at the Music Gymnasium in Vienna and as a member of the Vienna State Opera's children's chorus; she has also performed in several productions of her sister Miss Alma Deutscher's opera, Cinderella. Helen and Alma recently appeared together on an episode of Viking.TV (Anne Diamond Interviews Classical Musicians, Alma & Helen Deutscher) where they discussed their remarkable lives and many musical milestones.Dr. Janie Deutscher, Godmother of Viking Radgrid – An author and educator, Dr. Deutscher is also an accomplished musician and earned an organ scholarship to Oxford University where she later taught medieval literature; in recent years, she has concentrated on homeschooling and supporting the musical ambitions of her two daughters, Alma and Helen, godmothers of Viking Gymir and Viking Egdir, respectfully.Brenda Hunsberger, Godmother of Viking Hervor – For more than four decades, Ms. Hunsberger, Senior Vice President of Travel Services with AAA Club Alliance, has worked in the industry as an accomplished travel agent; she believes in the power of travel to transform perspectives and change lives.Karryn Christopher, Godmother of Viking Gersemi – Ms. Christopher is Executive Vice President of Preferred Partnerships & Marketing for Signature Travel Network, a member-owned travel cooperative established in 1956, where she has led the transformation of the company's sales and marketing division.Ghislaine Wood, Godmother of Viking Fjorgyn – As the Deputy Director of the University of East Anglia's Sainsbury Centre, one of the most important public university art galleries in Great Britain, Ms. Wood carefully curates exhibitions, including the upcoming “Visions of Ancient Egypt,” which was developed in partnership with Viking; opening in September 2022, the exhibit will honor the 100th anniversary of the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb. Ms. Wood discussed her work at the Sainsbury Centre in a recent episode of Viking.TV (Explore Alaskan Objects at the Sainsbury Centre with Ghislaine Wood), including the origins of their Alaska collection which examines how indigenous Alaskan communities developed technologies and tools to adapt to their environment.Muriel Wilson, Godmother of Viking Skaga – As the Director of Event Strategy & Sponsorships for Virtuoso, Ltd., Ms. Wilson has been a distinguished staff member of the global network of agencies for more than 40 years and leverages her deep knowledge of the industry to develop quality hospitality and travel experiences for Virtuoso's travel advisors and preferred partners.Kari Garmann, Godmother of Viking Kari – Former member of The Parliament of Norway and Oslo City Council, Ms. Garmann has made valuable contributions to Norway in the areas of government, business and banking throughout her career. The naming event was executed by connecting the new ships via satellite across two European cities: Paris and Amsterdam. The Viking Fjorgyn, Viking Kari, Viking Radgrid and Viking Skaga were docked in Paris at the Port de Grenelle, where they were named by their godmothers. The other four ships – Viking Egdir, Viking Gersemi, Viking Gymir and Viking Hervor – were docked in Amsterdam and named by their godmothers, who also joined the celebration in Paris. The SOFC will reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG) by about a further 30 percent compared with a conventional LNG engine without producing emissions of nitrogen oxides, sulphur oxides or fine particles.  It also offers the advantage of being compatible with LNG, as well as several low carbon fuels such as types of methanol, ammonia and hydrogen. This project will form the building block for future larger installations and the beginning of an even closer collaboration between MSC Cruises and Chantier de L'Atlantique on R&D of fuel cell technology. The traditional coin ceremony tradition took place as the keel was laid for MSC Cruises' second LNG-powered ship, MSC Euribia, which will be one of the most environmentally high performing contemporary vessels built in France. Anne Claire Juventin Responsible for Quality Control from the Chantiers de l'Atlantique, and Valentina Mancini, Brand Manager from MSC Cruises performed the traditional maritime ritual as godmothers representing the ship owner and the shipbuilder when they placed two coins under the keel as the historical sign of blessing and good fortune for the project, and the ship's operational life at sea.The float out of MSC World Europa, which will be the first LNG-powered vessel to join the MSC Cruises fleet took place at the shipyard in Saint-Nazaire where she will now be moved to a wet dock for work to continue on the ship until her delivery in November 2022.NCL Homeports in Panama City Norwegian Cruise Line, will become the first cruise line to homeport in Panama City, Panama, offering roundtrip Panama Canal voyages beginning 20 March 2022 with Norwegian Jewel.NCLK (Parent company of NCL) signed a multi-year agreement with the Panama Tourism Authority which allows the Company to seasonally homeport at the Colon Cruise Terminal as well as at Fuerte Amador Cruise Terminal located on the Pacific Ocean side of the country and adjacent to Panama City.In 2022 and 2023 the Company will offer 12 homeport voyages starting with Norwegian Jewel on 20 March 2022 where she will sail a nine-day itinerary traversing the Panama Canal and visiting incredible destinations including Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curaçao; Kralendijk, Bonaire and Cartagena, Colombia before arriving to the Caribbean side of Panama in the city of Colon.Starting 14 January 2023, Norwegian Gem will also feature select Panama Canal voyages including an 11-day journey visiting seven ports of call, including Puerto Limon, Costa Rica; Oranjestad, Aruba; Willemstad, Curaçao; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic and Grand Turk, Turks & Caicos Islands before ending in New York City. Norwegian guitarist/composer Hedvig Mollestad has fronted her own acclaimed power-trio with bassist Ellen Brekken and drummer Ivar Loe Bjørnstad for the best part of this decade. Her new album, however, finds her performing her sweeping brand of progressive jazz-rock with a loosely-configured sextet. Documenting a performance from 2018, Tempest Revisited was conceived as a hymn to her birthplace of Alesund, Norway, and takes cues from the weather and the natural world at large. It was unveiled for the anniversary of the opening of Parken, a cultural house in Alesund. (A new album by her trio, Ding Dong. You're Dead was also released earlier this year.) --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jazziz/support

Harald Hansen, travel expert from Visit Norway, shares his expertise with us from Oslo.-- He talks of contemporary Norwegian architecture, and lodgings with spectacular views; even igloos where you can see the Northern Lights from your bed.-- We learn of cruising up the Norwegian coastline, above the Arctic Circle, to Tromso, the "Paris of the North."  You can go dog sledding or on a reindeer safari, and see reflective Northern Lights in the Lofoten Islands.-- Harald tells us  his favorite fjords, near Bergen, and talks of ancient stave churches. He tells us of the 18 Norwegian Scenic Roads,  designed only for cars, combining gorgeous new lodgings, restaurants to complement the scenery, and even special toilets with views!-- We hear of whales, and an anecdote of polar bears seen very closeup. And of the Sami people in the north; travelers can join tours, celebrating the ancient family culture that revolves around reindeer.-- Lea remembers the beauty of Oslo's City Hall, and Harald tells of how that capital city has transformed in the last few years; it's now hip and filled with restaurants.-- We talk of Bergen, with its ancient warehouses, a center of the new "Fjordic cuisine." You can even catch your own seafood.-- We mention Alesund, the art nouveau town in southern Norway. And of course we end with a favorite memory.  And Harald has a great one._____Harald Hansen,  Media Specialist and Industry Specialist at Visit Norway, lives in Oslo and has been a Norwegian travel specialist  for decades. harald.hansen@innovationnorway.no, www.innovationnorway.no, www.visitnorway.com______Podcast host Lea Lane has traveled to over 100 countries, written many travel books, including Places I Remember, and has contributed to dozens of guidebooks.

Will Brick leave Broken for the far north town of Ny-Alesund? This episode is not explicit. Voiced by Paul Eenhoorn and Kari Aguila of “Broken, Alaska” and written by Kari Aguila. www.brokenalaskapodcast.com TRANSCRIPT Ny-ålesund. Hello, Brick, why are you walking through Broken, Alaska with a briefcase in one hand and your passport in the other. Ever feel like there are too many people in Broken? Well, there are only 71 of us. Let me tell you about Ny-ålesund. It’s the world’s northernmost town and has a permanent population of just 35. It’s technically part of Norway, but thanks to an international treaty, anyone can move there – no visa, no green card, no questions asked. You thinking about going up there? I’m so tired of all the bureaucratic red tape in Broken, and all the people poopooing my ideas all the time, I’m going to move there and see if they will appreciate me. Well, if you don’t need a visa, or green card, or anything, why are you bringing your passport? I might want to come back. See you later, Brick. This episode of Listen, Rinse, Repeat was voiced by Paul Eenhoorn and Kari Aguila of “Broken, Alaska” and written by Kari Aguila.

I am married to a wonderful man called Maciej with whom I vlog on a seperate channel (everdaters). I also lived in places such as Paris and Alesund in Norway throughout my life. Why fragrances? I have always been very sensitive to smells. For example I remember being 6 years old and going on a fishing trip with my family. After catching fish I could smell fish oil on my hands for days but no one believed me. Wherever I lived I always spent hours in my local fragrance shop and get to know many amazing fragrances. Now I am sharing my passion for fragrances on YOUTUBE. I hope I can bring you value by introducing you to new fragrances and hopefully someday interviewing perfumers and giving you an insight into the perfume industry. If you think the idea of a road trip in Norway with kids sounds interesting, then this is the episode for you. Today we talk about an incredible Norway road trip and some of the fun things to do in Norway. A Road Trip in Norway with Kids We've driven/ridden in many places around the world, but we've never taken a road trip in Norway with kids. Yet after talking to this week's guest, it's now on my list. Today we talk again with Jeff Bogle from the Out With the Kids blog. The first time we spoke, it was all about cruises. This week is a very different topic: driving in Norway and a pretty incredible road trip through Norway.   ::: Like what you’re hearing? Then please subscribe, rate & review Epic Education Radio. We would be extremely grateful! iTunes is a search engine as well, and so when you rate and review us, you help others find us. Thank you! ::: IN THIS EPISODE 10:20 Intro to Jeff 11:52 Norway Road Trips — Why Norway? 17:14 Skipped Oslo and Drove West 22:03 Bergen Norway 26:10 The Only Disappointment 31:23 Food in Norway 35:41 Book Towns in Norway 39:24 Alesund Norway 42:14 Trondheim Norway   ABOUT Names: Family blogger & Iris Award-winning photographer Jeff Bogle, his wife, and teen/tween daughters Hold passports from: USA Type of travel: Short-term travel, family cruises for kids, road trips A few places they’ve been: 20+ countries and counting, including Turkey, Greece, the UK/Ireland, Spain, and France.   LINKS & RESOURCES My first conversation with Jeff was about cruises Jeff tells us what to avoid in Norway A little more on the disappointing rail and cruise in Flåm   FIND THEM ON Out With The Kids (aka OWTK) | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Pinterest The Bogle's Norway Road Trip Dreamed up and planned while traveling in Ireland, the Bogle's adventure started with flights to the Oslo airport. From there, they skipped Oslo entirely and instead drove west. From here their Norway road trip took them to Bergen, Alesund, Trondheim and other fascinating places. "It’s the prettiest place we’ve ever been, full stop," he says, "Top to bottom.” That's a pretty large claim for Jeff, who travels a lot — both with his family and on his own. Then again, many of the scenes they encountered sound magical. For example, during this road trip in Norway, they saw crystal-clear fjords and snow-capped mountains. And they sat in wooden hot tubs on a deck overlooking it all. During his road trip in Norway, Jeff describes a scene where they watched snowflakes "as big as a baby's fist." These flakes dropped so slowly that they could even make out the patterns on them as they fell. Driving in Norway: Norway Road Trip Tips According to Jeff's experience, driving is Norway is easy. Even with loads of snow, the roads are clear and easy to follow. That said, he explains that just about any road trip in Norway will involve lots of tunnels. In fact, one of the longest tunnels in the world (that's not underwater) is in Norway: 25 kilometers long. Some tunnels even have roundabouts, rest stops and forks in the road. If you're claustrophobic and taking a road trip in Norway, this may be something to consider. A road trip in Norway will also likely involve car ferries — especially in the west of the country. With so many fjords and other bodies of water, travel in Norway requires some time to cross to the other side. They had one close call during their trip, actually — because of a flight delay, they had to rush to reach one car ferry. The last ferry of the day left just 15minutres after they reached if after a long drive. Food in Norway: Norway Travel Tips Jeff and family had some fantastic food during their road trip in Norway. There was still plenty of snow on the ground when they were there. Yet his vegetarian daughters were still able to find enough to eat, including (their surprise and delight) avocados! Jeff also saw lots of fish and wild game on menus, as well. One of his favorite meals of the trip was a halibut pulled right out of the fjord in they had taken a boat ride on. He also had an amazing Italian meal in Bergen at a place called Olivia's. So much so that I'll put a link to it in the show notes here. Like Iceland, Sweden and the rest of Scandinavia, food in Norway isn't cheap. If you take a road trip in Norway, prepare yourself for sticker shock. That said, Jeff talks about that it wasn't as bad as expected. Sure, there were some $100 breakfasts. Then again, that meal at Olivia's — one he claimed to be vaulted into the top 5 of his life — was approximately USD $90 for his family of four. Book Towns in Norway: Norway Travel Tips Books? The Bogles are fans. Both of Jeff's daughters are huge readers and Jeff and his wife both love the printed page as well. That's why for their Norway road trip itinerary they stopped in Fjærland. It's here that many old buildings are taken over by used books. Thousands and thousands of them. Unfortunately, their side trip to Fjærland didn't go as planned. More on that in the episode. They had better luck later when they reached Trondheim. They found a great "book barn" cafe, where they snacked while being surrounded by books. Once they walked outside, they realized that they were standing at the city's most picturesque wharf. The Only Disappointment of their Road Trip in Norway Jeff and family had an amazing time. In fact, they're already planning a return trip. That said, there were a few minor let downs during their road trip in Norway. For example, in Flåm, they took a very well-known (and very expensive) train ride that is considered to be one of the most beautiful in the world. That may be true, but because of the multiple tunnels, it was hard to capture it on camera. A fjord cruise in the same area was similarly disappointing. Not terrible, he says, but not worth the price and time required. Jeff describes it best in the podcast itself. More on Their Road Trip in Norway These are just a few of the things Jeff tells me about their road trip in Norway. Listen in as he describes snowy sunsets, Norwegian soccer stadiums, and looking for the northern lights. Have you taken a road trip in Norway?
