Welcome back to Ditch the Lab Coat, the podcast where we break down the fascinating world of medicine with a blend of scientific skepticism and real-world insight. Dr. Tracey's breakthrough research has shown us that the vagus nerve is far more than just a conduit for signals—it's a key player in managing inflammation, regulating our immune system, and maybe even shaping the future of medicine. In this conversation, you'll explore the mind-bending complexity of the nervous system, discover how cutting-edge science is redefining how we treat diseases like rheumatoid arthritis and long Covid, and learn how a tiny chip implanted in the neck might one day replace whole classes of immune-suppressing drugs. Dr. Tracey shares metaphors, straight talk about medical myths, and a vision for a future where reprogramming the body's reflexes could offer relief to millions.Get ready for a journey that's equal parts awe-inspiring and practical, as we unpack the true potential (and real-world considerations) of harnessing the vagus nerve's power. That cheap red light device you bought on Amazon might literally just be a regular light with red film over it. If so, you're missing out on real healing benefits! In today's episode, Dr. Abby Kramer from Fringe Heals joins me to break down everything you need to know about red light therapy. We're going beyond the surface to dive into the actual science: how red light works at the cellular level to supercharge your mitochondria, why specific wavelengths (660nm red and 850nm near-infrared) are crucial, and why most cheap devices are complete scams. The truth is, red light therapy harnesses the same healing wavelengths that come from the sun,the ones that are most abundant at sunrise and sunset. But since the average American spends 93% of their time indoors, we need quality devices that actually deliver therapeutic benefits. Dr. Abby explains why intensity matters more than you think (hint: higher isn't always better), how to avoid EMF exposure from poorly made devices, and why flicker can sabotage your results. We also dive into specific applications that might surprise you: using red light for thyroid health, gut microbiome healing, brain function, and even addressing hormonal acne with therapeutic blue light. Plus, we tackle controversial topics like whether it's safe to look directly at red light (spoiler: the research says yes, with proper precautions) and why the warnings about pregnancy and babies are mostly legal disclaimers rather than science-based concerns. In today's episode, we're chatting about: • Why most Amazon red light devices are literally fake (and how to spot quality ones) • The specific wavelengths and intensity levels that actually provide therapeutic benefits • How red light therapy works at the mitochondrial level to heal everything from thyroid issues to brain fog • The controversial truth about looking directly at red light (and why it might improve your vision) • Why EMF exposure and flicker in cheap devices can sabotage your healingEPISODE RESOURCESFree: Top 25 Toxins to Avoid Get on the Toxin Free in 3 Waiting List10% off Fringe Red Light with code WENDY10

Host Doug Stephan and Dr. Ken Kronhaus of Lake Cardiology (352-735-1400) cover a number of topics affecting our health. First up, Doug and Dr. Ken discuss the biggest news stories in the medical world, starting with a focus on good news that heart attack deaths have dropped by nearly 90% since the 1900s, in large part to implementing knowledge of the fundamental risk factors of heart disease.Additionally, a new study suggests a better way to measure weight over BMI (body mass index). The problem with it is that muscle and bone are a lot heavier than fat, which can give a false elevated BMI reading. A BMI over 30 is obesity. There are now high tech devices that can better measure body fat more accurately. Moving on, regular exercise in children isn't only fighting childhood obesity, but also childhood anxiety and depression.Next up, new hope of inverse vaccines that target a specific part of the immune system to suppress, and possibly reverse, autoimmune disease. The next item of interest is what the Health and Human Services is doing with the food and drink products containing synthetic dyes and just how many food products they're actually added to, and the most common is Red 40.Then the question -- how beneficial are pets for our health if we're allergic? Turns out, pet allergens are found in nearly all homes, even homes without pets. Pet allergens are from the pet dander, not their fur, and symptoms of pet allergies often mimic colds or seasonal allergies — sneezing, running nose, nasal congestion, red and/or itchy eyes, coughing, wheezing, shortness of breath, and hives or eczema. Immunotherapy is the only, ultimate relief of pet allergies. If you're looking to reduce allergy symptoms to pets, that would include keeping the pets out of the bedroom, use HEPA air filters, wash hands after petting animals, bathe your pet regularly, and use a vacuums with a double or micro-filter bag.Lastly, Doug and Dr. Ken answer listener questions, including low levels of a common drinking water contaminant linked to premature birth, low birth weight babies, and interference of the bloods ability to carry oxygen. Plus, are juice classes as healthy as we're led to believe? Doug and Dr. Ken discuss that, too. In tandem with that, foods that are filled with microplastics include apples and carrots (most commonly used in juice cleanses). Other foods with higher levels of microplastics include rice, pink Himalayan sea salt, sugar, tea, plant-based nuggets, fish sticks, shrimp, and water. Website: GoodDayHealthShow.comSocial Media: @GoodDayNetworks

What if the autoimmune condition you're dealing with today was actually programmed into your immune system decades ago during childhood? In this mini episode, Dr. Aimie answers a listener's question about the biological mechanisms connecting early attachment trauma to autoimmunity, and most importantly, what to do about it. She goes into the biology behind how childhood fear literally programs your immune system at the cellular level, creating a biological foundation for autoimmune conditions that can emerge years or decades later, often triggered by additional stressors like accidents, infections, or major life events. You'll learn more about:  Why fear causes inflammation How early fear creates overactive brain immune cells (microglia) that cause symptoms like brain fog and decision fatigue  The three key immune system pathways that determine whether your body stays in "inflammation mode" or switches to "repair mode" Practical actions you can take to rebalance your immune system Whether you're a practitioner working with autoimmune clients or someone with your own autoimmune journey, this episode reveals the hidden biological connections between early life experiences and immune dysfunction and offers hope through practical interventions that work at the cellular level. Many people push others away while desperately craving connection. Others battle chronic pain, digestive issues, or autoimmune conditions that seem to have no clear cause. But why is this? The answer often lies in unresolved childhood attachment trauma, specifically the experiences we had before we had words to make sense of them. This is why someone can have what looks like a good childhood but still struggle with anxiety, digestive problems, chronic pain, or autoimmune issues as an adult. The body remembers what the mind has forgotten. In this episode, Dr. Aimie breaks down the biology of early emotional pain and how it becomes stored in the body as chronic symptoms later in life. In this deeply personal and tender episode of the Deep Rooted Healing podcast, I share the story of discovering I had Hashimoto's—an autoimmune thyroid condition that marked the beginning of a powerful and unexpected healing journey. When I was first diagnosed, my lab results were the worst my doctor had seen. I was told I would need to be on thyroid medication for the rest of my life. And for many years, I followed that path, doing my best to manage my symptoms while carrying the weight of that prognosis. But over time—and through a series of quiet, intuitive nudges—I began to explore alternative healing practices. Reiki became a doorway into a different kind of relationship with my body, my voice, and my energy. I started to understand how much I had been holding in my throat: the unspoken words, the suppressed emotions, the fear of being too much or not enough. I began to heal not just physically, but emotionally and spiritually.Eventually, I made the decision to wean off the medication and trust in the healing journey I was walking. And now, 1.5 years later, my most recent labs show that my thyroid levels are normal and healthy—a shift that both humbles and amazes me.In this episode, I explore:The symptoms and diagnosis of Hashimoto's—and what the labs revealedLiving with the belief that I would always need medicationWhat led me to explore Reiki and other holistic healing practicesDeep work with the throat chakra and the emotional wounds held thereHealing my relationship with self-expression and reclaiming my voiceHow energy work and inner listening supported physical transformationThe miracle of my body's ability to heal, in its own sacred timeThis episode is an offering for anyone walking the path of chronic illness, emotional suppression, or self-discovery. When we think of autoimmune disease, we often hear the same story: the body is attacking itself. But what if that view is incomplete? What if autoimmune patterns are not self-attack, but an intelligent protective response of a nervous system shaped by trauma, chronic stress, and relational wounding? In this episode of Trauma Rewired, we're joined by Anna Gieselman, neuro-somatic practitioner and founder of Beyond Functional. Anna sits down with Elisabeth and Jennifer for a powerful, eye-opening conversation about how trauma, attachment wounds, toxic shame, and boundary violations condition the immune system and shape autoimmune responses, and why nervous system-first healing is essential for lasting change. Together, we explore how relational trauma and suppressed emotions fuel chronic inflammation, why boundaries are critical for immune health, and how shame responses become embodied drivers of disease. Anna also shares her personal journey of healing from lupus, and how nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and boundary repair changed her relationship with her body and her health. This episode is not about blaming yourself for illness or fighting your body. It's about honoring your body's wisdom, understanding the survival intelligence beneath autoimmune patterns, and building the capacity to heal from the inside out. If you've struggled with chronic illness, emotional repression, toxic shame, or boundary repair, this conversation offers a compassionate, grounded lens to understand your experience — and new tools for healing.
