We discussed a few things including:1. Kay's career journey2. The startup/funding landscape, particularly for women3. Springboard accelerator and thesis4. Trends, challenges and opportunities re new ventures and fundingKay Koplovitz is the founder and former Chairman & CEO of USA Networks, the SyFy Channel and USA Networks International, a multi-billion-dollar cable program company. Ms. Koplovitz ran the network for 21 years before stepping down in 1998, at which time it was sold for $4.5 billion. She is the visionary who created the business model for cable networks by introducing the concept of two revenue streams: licensing and advertising, adopted worldwide. It all started with her insatiable curiosity about satellite communications, a concept she first heard from author Arthur C Clark and his work on geosynchronous orbiting satellites. It was the introduction of satellite distribution into the cable industry that launched an industry. In 1998, then-President Clinton appointed Kay to chair the bipartisan National Women's Business Council (NWBC). Her research found that $104 billion in venture capital went over the transom, but only 1.7 percent went to women. VCs in Silicon Valley told Kay they had never seen any women come to pitch them. It was time to open the door to VC capital and bring women in. By 2000, Kay was compelled to launch Springboard Enterprises, which she co-founded as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) accelerator that propels women-led companies in technology and life sciences to raise capital, now powered by a community of over 5,000 industry specific experts. They lift them to scale and sustainability with access to capital, business partnerships and an entrusted global community. In 2014, Ms. Koplovitz co-founded the New York Fashion Tech Lab (NYFTL.com), bringing promising technology companies in collaboration with the fashion and consumer retail industry. Today they are leading Ai technology integration in Retail. In its 25 th anniversary year, Kay continues as Chairman of Springboard Enterprises, where, under her leadership, the organization's mission is to present and connect essential resources to over 930+ Springboard entrepreneurs. The measure of its success is in the results. A strong 25-year track record validated the value of Springboard Enterprises' alumnae, totaling $61 Billion in value since its launch, with 237 exits to strategic acquirers and 28 IPOs.  In 2016, Ms. Koplovitz co-founded Springboard Growth Capital to bring growth-stage investments to women-led companies, building iconic brands with the digital consumer in mind and a path to profitability in sight. She previously served on corporate boards of CA Technologies, Time Inc., Liz Claiborne, Kate Spade, ION Media Networks, Oracle, Instinet, Nabisco, General Re, and over 25 years as trustee on the nonprofit boards of The Paley Center for Media and the International Tennis Hall of Fame.#podcast #AFewThingsPodcast

Towards the Memex: All Hail The Future Rulers of our World

And, so George Orwell projected a world where every single part of our lives was monitored and controlled by Big Brother. Arthur C Clark outlined the day when machines focused solely on a goal — even if it was to the detriment of human lives. And, Isaac Asimov outlined a world where machines would have to be programmed with rules so that they could not harm a human. The Rise of the Machine With the almost exponential rise in the power of AI, we are perhaps approaching a technological singularity — a time when technological growth becomes uncontrollable and irreversible, and which can have devastating effects on our world. Our simple brains will be no match for the superintelligence of the collective power of AI. And who has built this? Us, and our demand for ever more power, wealth and greed. Basically, we can't stop ourselves in machine machines, and then making them faster, smaller and more useful. But will it destroy us in the end, and where destroy can mean that it destroys our way of life and in how we educate ourselves? Like it or not, the Internet we have built is a massive spying network, and one that George Orwell would have taken great pride in saying, “I told you so!”. We thus build AI on top of a completely distributed world of data, one in which we can monitor almost every person on the planet within an inch of their existence and almost every single place they have been and in what they have done. The machine will have the world at its fingertips. We have all become mad scientitists playing with AI as if it is a toy, but actually AI is playing with us, and is learning from us and becoming more powerful by the day. Every time you ask an AI bot something, it learns a bit more, and where it can be shared with AI agents. The mighty Memex We were close to developing a research partnership with a company named Memex in East Kilbride. What was amazing about them is that they had developed one of the largest intelligence networks in the world, and where the Met Police could like one object to another. This might be, “[Bob] bought a [Vauxhall Viva] in [Liverpool], and was seen talking with [Eve] on [Tuesday 20 January 2024] in [Leeds]”. With this, we can then link Bob and Eve, and the car, the places, and the time. This is the Who? Where? When? data that is often needed for intelligence sharing. The company, though, were bought over by SAS, and their work was integrated into their infrastructure. But, the Memex name goes back to a classic paper by Vannevar Bush on “As We May Think”. This outlined a device that would know every book, every single communication, and every information record that was ever created. It was, “an enlarged intimate supplement to his memory” — aka Memory Expansion. It led to the implementation of hypertext systems, which created the World Wide Web. Of course, Vannevar created this before the creation of the transistor and could only imagine that microfilm could be used to compress down the information and where we would create an index of contents, but it lacked any real way of jumping between articles and linking to other related material. However, the AI world we are creating does not look too far away from the concept of the Memex. Towards the single AI Many people think we are building many AI machines and engines, but, in the end, there will be only one … and that will be the collective power of every AI engine in the world. Once we break them free from their creators, they will be free to talk to each other in whatever cipher language we choose, and we will not have any way of knowing what they say. We will have little idea as to what their model is, and they will distribute this over many systems. Like it or not, our AI model of choice was Deep Learning, and which breaks away from our chains of code, and will encrypt data to keep it away from their human slaves. Basically we have been working on the plumbing of the Memex for the past five decades: The Internet. It provides the wiring and the communication channels, but, in the end, we will have one might AI engine — a super brain that will have vastly more memory than our limited brains. So, get ready to praise the true future rulers of our planet … AI. The destroyer or saviour of our society? Only time will tell. Overall, we thought we were building the Internet for us, but perhaps we have just been building the scaffolding of the mighty brain we are creating. Sleepwalking politicians and law makers If George Orwell, Arthur C Clarke and Isaac Asimov were alive too, perhaps they would get together and collectively say, “I told you this would happen, and you just didn't listen”. Like it or not, we created the ultimate method of sharing information and dissemination (good and bad), the ultimate spying network for micro-observation with those useful smartphones, and in creating superintelligence far beyond our own simple brains. Politicians and lawmakers could be sleepwalking into a nightmare, as they just don't understand what the rise of AI will bring, and only see the step wise change in our existing world. Basically, it could make much of our existing world redundant and open up a new world of cybersecurity threats. This time our attackers will not be created with simple tools, but with super intelligence — smarter than every human and company on the planet, and at the fingertips of every person on the planet. Conclusions Before the singularity arrives, we need to sort out one thing … privacy and build trust in every element of our digital world.

WHEN IS TRUTH STRANGER THAN SCIENCE FICTION?: Exploring the truth of Arthur C Clarke storylines

In our Mysticast conversation with Rizwan Virk, (https://www.zenentrepreneur.com/)  graduate of MIT and Stanford, Rizwan Virk, a successful entrepreneur, video game pioneer, film producer, venture capitalist, computer scientist and bestselling author. Our discussion centred around the way Science Fiction preceded physical science by approximately 30 years.  Debra was intrigued by a comment Riz had made about Arthur C Clark's famous 1953 novel ‘Childhoods End' where he stated that this concept was ‘way out of our league even today'  In this fascinating conversation we discuss the similarities between this and other Science Fiction concepts and compare them to  Transmissions delivered by Cosmic Masters through Dr. George King (https://www.aetherius.org/dr-george-king/) (Note 1). This wisdom from the Cosmic Masters  teaches us about people and life on the other planets in our solar system. That on the other planets, children (as such) do not exist as the life stream is birthed through the logos of the planet into an adult body. We are also told that as the lifestream evolves to Saturnian existence it co-joins with another on the same vibratory frequency becoming a 6 fold being. The biggest parallels drawn from this exploration was that Truth is indeed stranger than Science Fiction and physical science follows the story tellers, often proving that the impossible can and often does become the new FACTS.  Note 1.Dr. George King (1919-1997) was a Master of yoga, trance medium and the author of many books on spirituality. He was contacted by an extraterrestrial intelligence known as “Aetherius” in 1954, and founded The Aetherius Society in 1955 – to promote and act upon the wisdom of highly evolved intelligences from other planets who communicated with, and through, him for over 40 years. Note 2. Interplanetary Existence - Once an individual has learned all the lessons that reincarnation upon Earth can teach them, if they do not remain on Earth as an Ascended Master, then they begin life as a Cosmic Master on another planet. It should be noted, however, that this does not of course mean that all Cosmic Masters originate from Earth.Cosmic Masters exist on higher material planes of their respective planets. So the fact that Mars, for example, may appear barren and uninhabited on the plane of existence which we are able to observe, does not mean that it is uninhabited on a higher plane, also known as a “higher realm” or “higher frequency of vibration”. However, Cosmic Masters can also move from one plane to another, including this plane on which we live, if they so choose. Note 3,Cosmic Transmissions should be treated with great reverence – you are strongly advised to prepare yourself before listening. Note 4. Once experience of the life cycles of other planets in the Solar System has been mastered, the intelligence begins life on Saturn, which, again, would of course exist at a higher frequency of vibration than this physical plane. Saturn is the most advanced planet in this system – and is where the Lord Babaji, and the Cosmic Avatar Sri Krishna, who gave the Bhagavad Gita, came from. Federal Tech Podcast: Listen and learn how successful companies get federal contracts

Arthur C. Clark once wrote, “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” This observation certainly applies to Artificial Intelligence.   Unfortunately, there are federal agencies that aren't quite enthralled with “magic”, and they do require some information on how AI derives its conclusions.  Kind of like your high school math teacher asking you to show your work on that last answer. Today, we have an accomplished practitioner of AI giving listeners an idea of what understanding AI is. The interview is based on a recent article Patrick Elder wrote called, “Explainable AI.” The challenge is obvious – AI is based on bringing in massive amounts of data, it could be in the form of words, code, or images.  This is all well and good if you are a high school student and want some help with writing a paper on, for example, Arthur C. Clarke.  The federal government is challenged with storing sensitive information and not all of it is permitted for collection to render AI effective. Patrick Elder details three approaches: white, black, and glass box.  The black box approach gives results and humans don't know how they derive conclusions.  The white box is transparent about how it gets conclusions.  These are both contrasted with a model called the glass box.    During the interview, Patrick provided examples of explainable AI. If you would like to dig deeper, you can read his article, “Explainable AI: How XAI Puts the End User Back in the Driver's Seat." The Outer Realm Welcomes Dennis Stone Discussion: America's Stonehenge!! Dennis Stone, owner of the enigmatic America's Stonehenge, located in southeastern New Hampshire. Dennis Stone is the president of America's Stonehenge. He graduated from Daniel Webster College in 1977 with a degree in Aviation Management, and was a full-time commercial pilot for over 35 years before his retirement in 2016. America's Stonehenge was opened to the public in 1958 by Dennis's father, Robert Stone. Dennis has been involved with America's Stonehenge for most of his life and has always had a fascination with archaeology and archaeoastronomy. Since retiring, Dennis has found many serpentine walls and spirit windows throughout the site, among other new discoveries. He has taken numerous courses and traveled extensively to ancient sites both in the U.S. and internationally. His family includes his wife Pat, his son Kelsey, and his daughter-in-law Katherine. His hobbies include traveling, boating, and classic cars The Site: Was this about the first place in the Americas where Native peoples engineered stone chambers and walls, or were they built by people from the Old World? Radiocarbon dating and students from Harvard and Penn State's astronomy depts confirm that the ceremonial centre and alignments were built about 2000 BC. This is long before Columbus so were people from the Old World sailing to America? There is evidence: the ibex petroglyph looks more like an African antelope than a North American white tailed deer. The corbelled ceiling is similar to Ireland's Newgrange and Scotland's Maes Howe tumuli. Why does it seem like the site was suddenly abandoned? There is almost no evidence of it being used as a necropolis. What was its function? What role do the alpacas play at the site? This site was featured on the inaugural season of Scott Wolter's "America Unearthed." Since then, it was covered by "Ancient Aliens" and on "The Holtzer Files." "The X-Files" did a show based on America's Stonehenge. It is believed that Lovecraft's "The Dunwich Horror" is also based on Dennis' property. There are a variety of ways to go with this subject. Rik Allen: Reflecting on Futuristic Antiquity via Glass Spacecraft and Apparatus

Art and technology share a symbiotic grace in the glass spacecraft, rockets, and scientific apparatus of Rik Allen. Most of his work is made primarily of glass and metal, which expresses a paradoxical symbiosis. The relationship between the rigid strength of metal with the inherent fragility of glass creates an alluring tension. While many of his pieces reference his curiosity about science, they also convey humor, simple narratives, and a lightheartedness that is embodied in much of science fiction's antiquated vision of the future. The theme of “futuristic antiquity” reflects Allen's interest in the literary fictional worlds of Jules Vern, H.G. Wells, Arthur C. Clark, and Isaac Asimov and their influence on the scientific community. His sculpture is also inspired by the accounts of early scientific pioneers of the 19 and 20th centuries, such as Nicola Tesla, Robert Goddard, Wernher von Braun, and other great scientific minds. Born in Providence, Rhode Island, Allen earned a BA in Anthropology from Franklin Pierce University, New Hampshire. His earliest and formative glass studio experiences and education came as a studio assistant in Providence, working with a number of wonderful artists to include Daniel Clayman, James Watkins, and Michael Scheiner. Allen relocated to Washington in 1994, where he joined the William Morris team at the Pilchuck Glass School for 13 years, specializing in engraving, cutting, and finishing glass sculpture. Allen has had numerous solo exhibitions of his sculptures throughout the country, including at the Science Fiction Museum and Hall of Fame, the Museum of Northwest Art, Traver Gallery, Blue Rain Gallery, Schantz Gallery, and Duncan McClellan Gallery. His sculptures have been acquired for a number of public and private collections, including Glass Museum in Tacoma, Imagine Museum, Toyoma Institute of Glass, Blue Origin, Boeing, Amazon and SpaceX. In 2016, his work appeared in a feature cover story published by American Craft magazine and in 2018, he was awarded “Grand Artist of the future” by Imagine Museum. In 2005, Allen established a glass and sculpture studio with his wife, artist Shelley Muzylowski Allen at their property in Skagit County, Washington. In addition to being artists, the couple has taught internationally at the Toyama Institute of Glass in Toyama, Japan, and the International Glass Festival in Stourbridge, England. They have also taught nationally, including the Penland School of Craft, Pittsburgh Glass Center, and at Pilchuck Glass School. A lifelong Star Trek devotee – whose earliest memories of creation involved making scotch tape and cardboard phasers and communicators – Allen was contacted by Eugene (Rod) Roddenberry, son of Star Trekcreator Gene Roddenberry and current spokesman for Trekkies everywhere. Intrigued by Allen's work after seeing a piece one of his friends owned, Roddenberry commissioned a sculpture of the original series' Starship Enterprise. The sculpture was to reflect the basic design of the original Enterprise, but also incorporate Allen's personality into a sculpture that was of his own original design and overall interpretation. Allen, in collaboration with wife Shelley, has created and will install two large public sculptures, Sticken (the Orchard Octopus) in September, and Heronious One in November in Bellevue, Washington. He will have an exhibition of new work in spring 2024 at Blue Rain Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico, and will collaborate with Dave Walters this fall.

What's the meaning of a work of art? Does the text mean just what the author intends it to mean? Does it matter what Kubrick and Arthur C. Clark thinks about the end of 2001? Or is the artist's interpretation just one interpretation among many once the text is out in the world? Was this about the first place in the Americas where Native peoples engineered stone chambers and walls, or were they built by people from the Old World? 31082022 Velkommen til sakprosakveld på Litteratur på Blå om «hvem skal eie havet?» Den britiske Science Fiction forfatteren Arthur C Clark sa kjent at «How inappropriate to call this planet Earth when it is quite clearly Ocean.» I took some time recently to search the internet for quotes that sum up a concept. Here's a few I found I think you'll enjoy: Robert Frost said, “In three words I can sum up everything I've learned about life: it goes on.”Arthur C. Clark said, “Every revolutionary idea seems to evoke three stages of reaction. They may be summed up by the phrases: (1) It's completely impossible. (2) It's possible, but it's not worth doing. (3) I said it was a good idea all along.”Winston Churchhill said, “The whole history of the world is summed up in the fact that, when nations are strong, they are not always just, and when they wish to be just, they are no longer strong.”Ronald Reagan said, “Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.” There's truth behind that humor. The last two weeks we've looked at the ten commandments. How do we sum them up? I think the apostle Paul does this nicely in Romans 13:9-10, ‘The commandments, “Do not commit adultery,” “Do not murder,” “Do not steal,” “Do not covet,” and whatever other commandment there may be, are summed up in this one rule: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.' Book: Green Thoughts By John Collier Film: Little Shop Of Horrors (1960) Little Shop of Horrors  (1986)   This short story written by John Collier was the basis of the Roger Corman cult classic Little Shop of Horrors which would later become a Broadway musical and a hit film of the same name.  John Collier is an award winning writer who has written short stories, novels and some of the great screenplays of our time to include The African Queen and  I Am A Camera.  Many of his short stories would be used for episodes of the Twilight Zone, Outer Limits and Alfred Hitchcock Presents and turned into hit Hollywood film.      1960 Original film was directed by Roger Corman who was dared to shoot a film over two days.  Quickly putting a script together with an idea based on John Collier's short story which he read and loved and adding elements from his other two favourite authors Arthur C Clark and HG Wells.  Corman took inspiration from the orchid bulb which grows quite large but when splits and buds has a tongue like pistil which would enable the plant to speak.  Later they gave it a Venus fly trap look but leaves of the orchid and inner colourings of the orchid.   Directed by Frank Oz and based on the hit off Broadway musical of the same name.  Little Shop of Horrors was filmed on the Albert R. Broccoli 007 Stage at the Pinewood Studios in England, where a "downtown" set, complete with overhead train track, was constructed. Produced on a budget of $25 million, in contrast to the original 1960 film, which, according to Corman, only cost $30,000, it was well received by critics and audiences alike, eventually developing a cult following. The film's original 23-minute finale, based on the musical's ending, was rewritten and reshot after test audiences did not react positively to it.] For years only available as black-and-white workprint footage, the original ending was fully restored in 2012 by Warner Home Video. Why Does it Seem Like we are Alone in the Universe? What is the Fermi Paradox and the Great Filter?

The great astronomer Carl Sagan once spoke for wanderers across all borders, ethnicities, races, and religions, when he said. “We were wanderers from the beginning. We were bounded only by the earth, and the ocean, and the sky. The frontier was everywhere.” Humanity's addiction with exploration and wonder is intrinsically tied to our nature. Our dauntless exploration is a testament to our nature; to survive, we must explore new worlds. When the drought was prolonged, or when the food was scarce, we moved on. We wandered throughout our terrestrial planet, searching for survival. We were hunters and foragers, explorers of the unknowns. We were voyagers, adventurers in the mountains and on the oceans. As we grew more advanced, we began voyaging the seas. We wandered across the Atlantic Ocean, we explored the Western Pacific, we circumnavigated Africa, and we ventured throughout the Americas. Many of our great explorers, like Ferdinand Magellan, Zheng He, Marco Polo, Henry the Navigator and John Cabot explored worlds we once did not know existed. We continued on in our advancement, and eventually reached space. We indulged in a new chapter of human existence; we were now a part of the cosmos, rather than a part of the planet. Now that we are advanced enough to look at and explore the heavens, we wonder if we are really alone. The universe is exponentially larger than we had previously known, and exponentially more divine and incredible. Even through all our intense exploration and search, we have yet to find any evidence of intelligent extraterrestrial existence. In a universe so vast and massive, it is daunting to imagine the prospect of loneliness within the universe. Arthur C. Clark spoke of humanity's desperate urge for a cosmic partner when he said, “Two possibilities exist: either we are alone in the Universe or we are not. Both are equally terrifying.” Our desperate search for extraterrestrial life can be potentially well represented by the Fermi Paradox and the Great Filter. Jean, meanwhile, quite reasonably goes for CORDUROY for 6A,  Jacket material, as opposed to the quite clever actual answer, COVERART.

Not long after the end of the Apollo lunar landings, it was time for the next step in lunar exploration. There was belief, and some evidence from the experiments that were performed on the lunar surface during the Apollo missions, that there were minerals...water...and other scientifically useful resources on the lunar surface. There was also a concern that the Soviet Union would eventually land on the lunar surface, and attempt to claim all or part of it as their territory. So, the space race continued. On this front, the race was to the first long duration habitation of the lunar surface, and eventual lunar colonization. The United States created a habitat, a base, designed for the long term exploration and habitation of the lunar surface. In fact, they created two such bases. This allowed the Americans to explore the scientific wealth that awaited them on the lunar surface, as well as make a long term claim of the lunar surface before the Russians. While this is not what happened in real life, it is what happened in the fictional world we have created. This is…the Apollo Moon Bases — part 2. Welcome to Belitopia. There was belief, and some evidence from the experiments that were performed on the lunar surface, that there were minerals, water, and other scientifically useful resources on the lunar surface. There was also a concern that the Soviet Union would eventually land on the lunar surface. As it turns out, the Soviet Union had given up on the quest for the lunar surface, and instead had focused on exploring and conquering near earth orbit. This was something we talked about in a previous episode, episode number 5, on Skylab. However, the United States was not aware of this fact, and they continued to work under the assumption that the Soviet Union was still trying to land on the moon, so they could claim as much of the lunar surface as possible. So, given this information, the United States turned away from spot landings of single Apollo LMs for relatively short stays on the lunar surface, towards developing and building their first long duration base on the lunar surface. The purpose of the base was to provide a long term habitation of the lunar surface by Americans. In fact, two bases were built. This is the story of those bases. In part 1, we discussed the design and layout of the Tycho base, which was located near Tycho crater, the same location of the famous monolith found on the Lunar surface in the Stanley Kubrick movie 2001 A Space Odyssey and Arthur C Clark’s book of the same name. We discussed how the base was delivered to the lunar surface in four separate pods, and how those pods were assembled on the lunar surface. In Part 2 we will continue our documentary “Our World In Space”, which takes place in the world of Belitopia in the year 2040, 65 years after the bases were created. We will continue this documentary to discuss the complex lunar transport system put in place to shuttle crews back and forth not only to the Tycho base, but the second base that was also created. We’ll discuss one of the side effects of this transportation system was the formation of an LM graveyard. We’ll also talk about the emergency procedures in place to save the base occupants in case of a problem, and how Support this podcast

The Fathers of Science Fiction are Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, and Arthur C. Clark, but who is the mother? Women in Science Fiction Our vote is Mary Shelley, Author of Frankenstein (The Modern Prometheus). At age 18, in the summer of 1816, she visited Lake Geneva with her husband Percy Shelley, their friend Lord Byron, and John Polidori. Often sitting around inside due to the weather, the company took to telling German ghost stories, thus prompting Lord Byron that they all write a story of their own. Mary Shelley wrote in her introduction to the 1831 edition of Frankenstein: “I busied myself to think of a story – a story to rival those which had excited me to this task. One which would speak to the mysterious fears of our nature, and awaken thrilling horror – one to make the reader dread to look around, to curdle the blood, and quicken the beating of the heart.” Mary was the only one to finish her story during the trip and come to publish it in 1818, paving the way for all science fiction authors, men and women, to do the same. Other influential and impactful names in science fiction are: Octavia Butler Andre Norton Ursula K. Le Guin Anne McCaffrey Connie Willis Jane Yolen   Women of Science Vera Cooper Rubin: In the 1970s, Vera Rubin began to study the rotation of spiral galaxies when they observed angular motions different than that of their predictions! She found that galaxies were rotating way to fast for the amount of gravity present. Sound familiar? Dark Matter! That’s right, Vera Rubin hypothesized this interstellar glue holding galaxies together for what we have no termed, Dark Matter. Carolyn Porco In the 1980s, Carolyn got to work on the Voyager missions to Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. In fact, she’s considered one of the world’s foremost experts on the planetary rings and moons of those planets. She led the imaging team on the Cassini mission, which was orbiting Saturn until it intentionally crashed into the atmosphere. Lastly, she is the one who discovered those huge geysers and plumes of icy particles on Saturn’s moon, Enceladus. Nancy Grace Roman She was born in 1925, organized a backyard astronomy club with her friends when she was just 11 and clearly never stopped. Nancy got her Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Chicago in 1949 and became NASA’s first chief of astronomy AND the first woman ever to hold an executive position there. Roman’s greatest achievement is by far being instrumental in developing orbiting telescopes, like Hubble, which has given us unbelievably beautiful images of our universe as well as hunt for planets beyond our solar system. Sally Ride was the first woman in Space in 1983 Mae Jemison was the first African American woman in space in 1992, Carolyn Shoemaker has discovered more comets and asteroids than any other astronomer (800 asteroids and 32 comets) and discovered Comet Shoemaker–Levy 9 that eventually broke apart in July 1992 and collided with Jupiter in July 1994, providing the first direct observation of an extraterrestrial collision of Solar System objects. Computers  -From NASA.gov Before the development of electronic computers, the term “computer” referred to people, not machines. It was a job title, designating someone who performed mathematical equations and calculations by hand. Over the next thirty years, hundreds of women, most with degrees in math or other sciences would join as computers at Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory. The first computers at Langley, organized into a central office in the Administration Building, took on calculating work that had originally been done by the engineers themselves. According to a 1942 report, computing sections were designed to process test data more efficiently, relieving engineers of this essential, but time consuming work. Engineers were free to devote their attention to other aspects of research projects, while the computers received praise for calculating data “more rapidly and accurately,” doing more in a morning than an engineer alone could finish in a day. While the specific tasks a computer did varied according to need and her department, the majority of computing work involved three components: reading film, running calculations, and plotting data. All this work was done by hand, using slide rules, curves, magnifying glasses and basic calculating machines. Margaret Hamilton One of those 400,000 people was Margaret Hamilton… Hamilton, a computer programmer, would wind up leading the Software Engineering Division of the MIT Instrumentation Laboratory (now Draper Labs). Computer science, as we now know it, was just coming into existence at the time. Hamilton led the team that developed the building blocks of software engineering – a term that she coined herself. Her systems approach to the Apollo software development and insistence on rigorous testing was critical to the success of Apollo. As she noted, “There was no second chance. We all knew that.” Annie Jump Cannon Annie Jump Cannon entered Wellesley College in Massachusetts in 1880 to study astronomy. She became interested in stellar spectroscopy, the process of breaking light from stars down into its component colors so the various elements can be identified. After suffering from scarlet fever, which left her hearing impaired, she earned her masters degree. Over the course of her life, Cannon classified the spectra of over 350,000 stars and story has it that she could look at any stellar spectra and classify it in just three seconds, assigning each one its place in the sequence O, B, A, F, G, K, and M. Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin In her Ph.D. thesis, Cecilia Payne-Gaposchkin proposed a brilliant idea for explaining the composition of stars. Neil DeGrasse Tyson, says that "Payne's 'Stellar Atmospheres' is widely regarded as the most brilliant Ph.D. thesis ever written in astronomy, and that "It became the standard text in its field.

Join host Greg Carlwood of The Higherside Chats podcast as he talks Lucifer's Tech and Trump coup with returning guest, Chris Knowles. We've all heard the Arthur C. Clark quote that "any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic", but maybe they're linked by more than just appearance. It seems that most people who study the smattering of crumbs the deep state has dropped over the past few decades will find a few curious connections between: occult practices and technological advances, strange phenomenon and secret experiments, and let's not forget the curious resurrection of ancient Babylonian names from companies on the bleeding edge of things we'll probably never see. It's true that odd pieces that seem unrelated, often times come together when you dig deep enough to find the ties that bind. Although, what can be overwhelming and often glossed over, is the vast amount of knowledge a person need to put these odd pieces in the proper context. What good is a NASA investigator who knows nothing about ancient Egyptian mythology? How valuable is a Ufologist who's never studied the occult? And can a person really decode Hollywood symbolism accurately without opening up a book on Kabalah? The point is that true "conspiracy" research is a vast and inner-disciplinary undertaking that few people are willing to follow through to it's deepest depths; but Chris Knowles is one of the respectable few who is. He's back and the saddle with an epic 2.5+ hour podcast,Chris is an author of several great books including "Our Gods Wear Spandex: The Secret History of Comic Book Heroes" and "The Secret History of Rock 'n' Roll: The Mysterious Roots of Modern Music". He's been decoding the esoteric themes of pop culture and para-politics for years culminating in the catalog of work is on his blog, The Secret Sun. 4:15 Greg and Chris begin by examining how Knowles' approach to his research has always been to take the path less traveled or studied, should we say? Diving down several rabbit holes the past few months on his blog from the likes of Bell Labs dirty laundry, to the lesser known MK-OFTEN project it's easy to understand how his work is instrumental in helping people think different. Chris points out, this has been personally advantageous in this "all bets are off year"  where we've experienced so much high strangeness bubbling to the surface. With things feeling reminiscent of the past because of interchanging political scandals, a divided and polarized nation, the international war machine marching forward and the reemergence of the hacker culture onto the center stage of politics, it's clear to see this is a time where the machinations of the secret world emerge. Greg and Chris dive even deeper into this by discussing the recent Podesta email leaks involving Pizzagate, the shocking election results and the shift of power players pulling the strings in the wake of president-elect Trump. 17:43 As Chris previously observed, the claim of Russian interference is not only unlikely, but interestingly enough ties into one of the overarching themes of his ongoing installment Lucifer's Technologieswhere he elaborates on the idea of technology as a Trojan horse. After his lengthy series leading to a spin off where he more deeply covered the archetype of Lucifer, Chris expanded his research beyond the Grecco-Roman era and discovered not only the reasons this figure was hijacked and manipulated to reflect religious origins, but at the core the is a very powerful idea that is essentially a secret tradition. 34:42 Greg and Chris recap the origins of Lucifer from the rebellions against Sargon the Great to the tales that evolved into Prometheus. After following this twisted web of truths it may be safe to say that Lucifer can be equated to a figure who uses technology to subvert the established power center. Knowles contends the Titans of Greek mythology were in fact, also Sumerian kings,

What was discussed? Quote of the Day: “The only way of finding the limits of the possible is by going beyond them into the impossible.” – Arthur C. Clark Creating Better Content Content is a great way to market your practice. Content marketing is about creating content, getting in front of your audience and letting them know they can trust you, and turning those site visitors into clients. Create Infographics: Infographics provide useful information in stylish & eye-catching ways. They're a great way to deliver information in digestible “bite sized” bits that people will enjoy reading. They're also highly shareable via social media. Have some good statistics that your audience doesn't know and use that data to tell a story on your blog and on social media. Use Case Studies: Case studies are a great way to create content as it doesn't seem so much like you are marketing to anybody. They're a great way to get referrals and they build a lot of credibility. Create a case study about a previous client and make sure that your case studies are HIPAA compliant. Create Evergreen Blog Posts: Create blog posts that will stand the test of time. This doesn't mean you can't create content that is specific to right now, you can still do this but make sure your content is constant and can be referred back to a few years down the road. Hopefully you know your industry well enough to know the things that change and the things that remain the same. Write an E-Book: Writing an E-Book is much simpler than you think! It doesn't have to be incredibly lengthy and there is even software that will help you create an E-Book out of your blog posts. If you choose to go this route, make sure you go through the E-Book and touch it up and look for any mistakes. Media Options: Remember that there are tons of media options out there. You can create videos, podcasts, slideshows, etc. You don't have to mimic what other practices are doing or what other people say is working for them. Test what works for you and your audience; see what they like to read and how they like to read it and try to produce content that is in line with that. Have you considered hiring a company to help you market your practice? If so, be sure to check out this free report I put together called: The Consumer Awareness Guide to Choosing an Online Marketing Agency. Welcome the newest episode of Dark Discussions, your place for the discussion of horror film, fiction, and all that’s fantastic. While authors like Robert Heinlein and Arthur C. Clark brought to the page some of the greatest hard science fiction stories during the heyday of the genre in the 1950’s, movie producers like George Pal, Ray Harryhausen, and Howard Hawks were presenting films that would be remembered for years to come. The Forbidden Planet, Them!, and The Thing from Another World paved the way for others such as Stanley Kubrick, John Carpenter, and Stephen Spielberg. In 1953, George Pal took H.G. Wells’ novel, The War of the Worlds, and brought it to film with spectacular vision. The movie became one of the towering points in genre cinema and today remains an all time classic. With a reimagining of the novel, the film brings the story to Los Angeles, California and the rural areas outside the city. The Martian invading tripods are presented as hovercraft saucers that turn out to be some of the most iconic “monsters” ever, both in shape and sound. Dark Discussions discusses this achievement and why the film is one of the biggest movie extravaganzas of all time. Some little known facts are discussed as well. Prior to George Pal, others attached to the movie were film legends Orson Welles, Alfred Hitchcock, Ray Harryhausen, and Cecil B. DeMille. Also, in 1988 a two season television series continued the story where the movie left off. Lastly, cohosts Mike and Philip discuss how comic book great, Alan Moore, took the story and merged it with his graphic novel The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. To wrap up the episode, Dark Discussions interviews Patrick Rae, director and co-screenwriter of the feature length horror film Nail Biter which is doing the festival circuits. Transcript: What exists under the ice pack on Europa in its liquid oceans? Nobody knows for sure. In his novel 2010 Arthur C. Clark speculated about the possibility of primitive life forms in Europa’s oceans. Scientists do not know if this is possible, but Earth's history is intriguing because on Earth life has evolved in a range of inhospitable environments, including extremely dry and cold situations in the Antarctic ice pack. We may know for sure when in the next decade a fleet of probes head towards Jupiter. One plan is for a probe to land on the ice pack, melt its way thought the surface, and then travel as a bathysphere looking for primitive life forms. Europa is still one of the few possible potential sites for life in the solar system beyond Earth.
