It's sacred. In this episode, Paul and Ashley go deep and raw into the emotional and spiritual tension that arises when your growth, your peace, your joy—hurts someone you love.We talk about:What it means when Jesus refused to go to his mother, MaryThe emotional toll of becoming someone your people don't recognizeWhy your sacred yes may sound like a violent no to someone else⚠️ Content Note:This episode includes discussion of trauma and suicidal ideation. Please care for your well-being as you listen. If you're in a vulnerable place, consider pausing, checking in with a friend, therapist, or someone you trust. You're not alone.
Send us a textCan lasers help to combat hair loss? Tamim Hamid comes from a long line of medicine, but chose to enter the engineering world. However, he still had the instinct to want to help people.Tamim was a NASA engineer, who invented a laser to measure thermoprotection of the shuttles outer shell upon re-entry to the Earth.Lasers were invented in the 60's, and he learned about them in school in the 80's.He then invented a new laser in silicon valley. He found a study on lasers & hair growth, which was recorded in 1965 and tested on mice, which showed that a certain frequency could stimulate hair to grow.Lasers work differently depending on the setting and the frequency. Laser light can stimulate human tissue, specifically hair follicles, and it triggers the mitochondria in the bulge of the hair root. This can extend the anagen phase and stimulate growth in the papilla, along with strengthening the arrector pili muscle.Tamim has now invented the Theradome helmet, which he says is the only FDA approved device in the world that can stop hair loss.Connect with Tamim:InstagramBook Hair & Scalp Salon Specialist course Support the showConnect with Hair therapy: Facebook Instagram Twitter Clubhouse- @Hair.Therapy Donate towards the podcast Start your own podcastHair & Scalp Salon Specialist Course ~ Book now to become an expert!
While Jakarta's eviction politics have often dominated headlines and grassroots campaigns, the experiences of those who have been relocated to rusunawa (social housing) complexes have remained largely invisible. Yet these families reveal how Indonesia's vision of urban modernity is being literally built into the architecture of everyday life, changing the ways people connect with each other and build their lives. In this episode of Talking Indonesia, host Tito Ambyo explores these tensions with guest Dr Clara Siagian, whose ethnographic research uncovers how social housing design enforces specific values of respectability on the urban poor - from banning certain cooking methods to restructuring family life itself. Clara Siagian did her PhD at the Australian National University and is senior researcher at the Center on Child Protection and Wellbeing at Universitas Indonesia as well as a postgraduate researcher at the University College London. Her research examines urban governance, childhood policy, and development through the perspectives of marginalised populations. In 2025, the Talking Indonesia podcast is co-hosted by Tito Ambyo from RMIT, Dr Elisabeth Kramer from the University of New South Wales, Dr. Jacqui Baker from Murdoch University and Dr Jemma Purdey from the Australia-Indonesia Centre.
Mo Gawdat, former Chief Business Officer at Google X, now Chief AI Officer at Flight Story and bestselling author, joined Lester Kiewit for a conversation on happiness, work, and the future of technology. Reflecting on his own journey, Gawdat said, “I am the happiest I have ever been… Happiness is a calm and peaceful state of contentment when you’re OK with life as it is.” He explained his well-known formula for happiness, “Happiness is equal to or greater than the difference between the events of your life and your expectations of how life should be.” On the link between happiness and work, Gawdat was clear that no job can guarantee fulfilment. “Nothing has an inherent value of happiness within it. Sadly, most of us are convinced our job is the purpose of our life. That’s a very capitalist promise.” He added that moments of stillness are essential, saying, “When you step away from the manic pace of the world, even for a few hours, clarity sets in.” The conversation also turned to artificial intelligence and its role in shaping the future of work. Gawdat believes automation could bring about abundance. “AI can make everything almost free. The question is will humanity use this to take care of everyone, or continue to deny people a decent life if they are not productive?” When it comes to dealing with life’s difficulties, he draws a distinction between pain and suffering. “Pain is inevitable, but suffering doesn’t need to be generated by us. Happiness is not our privilege or right. Happiness is our duty because when you’re happy, you make a positive difference to the world around you.” Surprisingly, Gawdat also sees a role for AI in helping people form deeper connections. “One of my projects is a love coach AI that helps you know yourself better and find genuine connections. If our intention is real love, technology can even help us there.” As the conversation closed, Gawdat returned to his central theme. “Humanity’s duty is to find that calm and peaceful contentment I call happiness, and to spread it around to those they love.” Cape Town will soon host the Mind Matters Summit Step Into Your Focus and Flow taking place on Wednesday, 4 September at the CTICC. What if you only had 4000 Sundays in your lifetime? And what if the way you work today is quietly stealing them away? In this conversation, Dr Kristy Goodwin takes us inside her own life-altering wake-up call — a moment in a Code Red hospital ward that forced her to confront burnout, mortality, and the “success tax” so many high performers pay. Kristy shares why our bodies keep score, how to stop crawling to Friday and start arriving at Sunday fully alive, and why protecting your focus, energy, and relationships is non-negotiable if you want to lead into the future. This is not just about wellbeing, it’s about the kind of leaders we choose to become — human-first, sustainable, and fiercely intentional.

There's a common belief that having a pet is good for one's wellbeing. You often hear stories about how looking into a dog's eyes gives you an emotional boost or that using real and fake animals in rest homes boosts residents' moods, but it turns out it's not a guaranteed path to better mental health – reality is more nuanced. Some studies do find that pet owners report lower anxiety and loneliness, and greater life satisfaction. However, other studies show no significant difference, and some have even found that pet owners actually reported lower wellbeing, including higher loneliness, than non-owners. The type of bond between owner and pet plays a crucial role. Owners with insecure attachments (e.g. anxiety about separation or doubts about their pet's affection) tend to report higher depression and anxiety – this likely to be worse if your pet also has insecure attachment and worries when you're not there! Feeling a shared identity with a pet (e.g. similar traits or habits) is linked to better wellbeing, so if you look like your pet, you feel better – not sure what that says about me as I've got two miniature schnauzers! Mindful interaction with pets —appreciating their present-focused nature— can help owners stay grounded. This is the idea behind support animals for people with various types of disability Pets require time, energy, and financial resources, which can be stressful, and it's sometimes the reason people give up pets early. During the pandemic, pet ownership was linked to lower wellbeing among women, parents, and those with unstable employment – probably because it was yet another thing to think of/worry about. Caring for sick pets or dealing with behavioural issues and grief after loss can be emotionally taxing. So, think carefully if you're thinking about getting a pet! It's not necessarily all it's cracked up to be – but we wouldn't give up ours for anything! LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Science confirms many of the things taught in the Bible, such as the benefits of exercising gratitude. Thinking daily about what you are deeply grateful to God for rewires your brain and improves your physical and mental wellbeing. When Jesus healed the ten lepers, the one that returned to thank Him and glorify God was not only healed but for his faith he was saved. Expressing your gratitude directly to God affects your whole attitude and relationship with Him. Last week I shared an episode with the wonderful Dr Monika Sharma all about cortisol. We talked about what it is, why we need it, how to regulate it and the role it plays in relation to type 1 diabetes. Within that chat we got onto the subject of a morning routine and what we can do to build healthy habits that can set us up for the day without being overstimulated and sending cortisol off the charts.I'm super thankful to Dr Monika for her expertise and knowledge, and during that conversation I briefly mentioned how I had recently started to build out a more consistent morning routine, having been a morning routine skeptic and believing it couldn't possibly help me with my type 1 diabetes.Of course it's in no way a replacement for medication, professional guidance or treatment, but I do believe that finding a version of a morning routine that works for me has been a positive addition to my life.So today I'm sharing my thoughts around a morning routine, and what I'm currently doing (and not doing) before diving into the never-ending to-dos and deadlines. This is just my personal experience and in no way intended as advice, but I hope you find it interesting! In today's episode, delve into the root causes of anxiety through the lens of both modern science and Ayurvedic wisdom. Dr. Vignesh shares how Ayurveda views anxiety as an imbalance of Vata dosha, and how misdirected creative energy can spiral into worry and fear.Through practical tools and Ayurvedic insights, you'll learn how to reframe anxiety into resilience and curiosity, cultivating clarity and balance in everyday life.Get free episode abstract: https://vigneshdevraj.comThe details of our upcoming course on healing from anxiety will be announced shortly on our Instagram page. Dr. Laura welcomes Dr. Esther Sternberg, M.D., a Professor, Research Director, Speaker, and Author of the books Well at Work, Healing Spaces, and The Balance Within, to the podcast to talk about wellness at work and how workplace environments impact employees. Dr. Sternberg shares her career journey from her start in medical family practice through to becoming the Research Director at the Andrew Weil Center of Integrative Medicine. She and Dr. Laura talk about what factors impact health and overall wellness at work and how these can be improved.Dr. Sternberg delves into the insights in her book Well at Work and explains the seven domains of integrative health as defined by the Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine. Sleep, resilience, environment, movement, relationships, spirituality, and nutrition are the seven domains, and they include things like how quickly we bounce back from stress, how clean our air is, and access to nature. Dr. Laura and Dr. Sternberg examine how office design, environmental location, common spaces that encourage relationships, and even temperature all play a key role in our workplace health. The conversation sheds light on how work isn't simply a place to invest time into productivity, but can positively or negatively impact our overall lives, and how redefining workplaces is a vital part of future discussions. “... if you're feeling too stressed or too activated, you want to do something that will tone down that stress response so you can perform at peak... If you're too stressed, you freeze, you're unable to focus. You're unable to do the job, the task at hand. So what helps you to move that stress response from the extreme danger zone back to performing at peak is places where you can go offline a little bit, where you can effectively meditate even though you're not sitting there with crossed legs in a lotus position in a yoga studio, although having spaces where some people can do that is is also beneficial. But a space, for example, [like] the gardens. To just walk in the gardens, to just take your brain off the computer for a while and focus on the green, on the plants.” - Dr. Esther SternbergAbout Dr. Esther Sternberg, M.D.:Dr. Esther Sternberg is internationally recognized for her discoveries in the science of the mind-body interaction in illness and healing, and the role of place in wellbeing. She is a pioneer and major force in collaborative initiatives on mind-body-stress-wellness and environment interrelationships. A dynamic speaker, she engages her audience with passion for her subject and compassion as a physician. Through stories, she provides listeners with many take-home tips to help them cope with stress and thrive, and to create wellbeing spaces wherever they work or live. Dr. Sternberg's three popular, highly readable, informative, and scientifically based books are inspirations for lay persons and professionals alike, seeking answers to the complexities and 21st-century frontiers of stress, place, healing, and wellness. Her award-winning book, WELL at WORK: Creating Wellbeing in Any Workspace (Little, Brown Spark, 2023) was named a Top Ten Lifestyle Book for Fall 2023 by Publishers Weekly and received the OWL (Outstanding Works of Literature) Longlist Award. Her two previous science-for-the-lay public books, Healing Spaces: The Science of Place and Well-Being and The Balance Within: The Science Connecting Health and Emotions, are landmark in its field. Healing Spaces was recognized by the President of the American Institute of Architects as an inspiration for launching the AIA's Design and Health Initiative and has inspired the implementation of healing spaces in hospitals across the country and around the world. Currently, Research Director, Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine and Founding Director of the University of Arizona Institute on Place, Wellbeing & Performance, she holds the Inaugural Andrew Weil Chair for Research in Integrative Medicine and is a Research Professor of Medicine with joint appointments as Professor in Psychology, Architecture, and Planning & Landscape Architecture, and in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, School of Nutritional Sciences and Wellness. Welcome to the Sustainable Clinical Medicine Podcast! In this Episode, Dr. Sarah Smith sits down with Dr. Stefanie Simmons, an emergency medicine physician and the Chief Medical Officer of the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation. Together, they dive deep into the critical topic of healthcare workforce burnout and what it really takes to create healthier, more sustainable clinical environments—not just for physicians, but for all healthcare workers. Dr. Simmons shares her personal journey from residency, through struggles with peripartum depression, to pioneering new roles in clinician well-being and organizational support. They explore the stigma surrounding mental health in medicine, discuss the evolution of coaching and peer support, and look at the broader culture shift that's starting to reshape the medical landscape. Whether you're a healthcare professional searching for tools to thrive or an advocate for change in medicine, this conversation is packed with practical insights and hope for building a more supportive future in clinical practice. Here are 3 key takeaways from this episode: Systemic Change is Essential: We need to move beyond just “building a stronger canary”—the focus must be on building better, more human-centered healthcare environments that support both patients and clinicians. Removing Mental Health Stigma Matters: Dr. Simmons spotlights the real harm from outdated licensing and credentialing questions about mental health. Progress is happening: more states and organizations are removing these barriers, making it safer for clinicians to seek help. Actionable Resources Exist: The Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes Foundation provides toolkits, badges, and learning collaboratives to help organizations enhance clinician wellbeing, reduce administrative burden, and foster peer support. Meet Dr. Stefanie Simmons: Stefanie Simmons, MD is the Chief Medical Officer at the Dr. Lorna Breen Heroes' Foundation and a board-certified emergency medicine physician. She was the primary advisor to NIOSH for the Impact WellbeingTM guide for healthcare leaders, leads multi-state programs to improve the operational environment of care and remove barriers to mental health care, and serves as a national thought leader in healthcare worker well-being. Stefanie served as the Vice President of Patient and Clinician Experience for Envision over 7 years, serving 26,000 physicians and advanced practice providers with a focus on professional well-being, including translational research and programs designed to bring well-being best practices to clinical environments. She served as lead clinical faculty for the Clinician Experience Project Wellbeing program. Stefanie earned her Bachelor of Science and Medical Doctor degrees from University of Michigan and completed residency training at the University of Michigan/St. Joseph Mercy emergency medicine residency. We look at how smaller, preventative doses can work differently to larger doses used to treat deficiencies. Humans depend on forests for vital resources like food, building materials, and oxygen. Forests benefit when human actions maintain the health and biodiversity of their environment. While vital for the overall health of the planet, time in a forest has been shown to increase our immunity, reduce stress, and improve mood. Studies continue to show a decline in outdoor activity and participation. Have you ever noticed how easy it is to slip into negative thought patterns, even when you're actively working to maintain a positive mindset? That automatic default mode seems hardwired into our human experience, especially during stressful times. In this heartfelt exploration, I share my morning journal practice and the profound impact of developing what I call "the poet's eye" – a way of seeing that finds beauty and meaning in ordinary moments. This isn't about ignoring life's challenges or pretending everything is perfect. Rather, it's about training ourselves to notice the sacred in the everyday, to appreciate the small miracles unfolding around us, and to actively author our own life stories instead of passively accepting whatever narrative unfolds.I share an original, unpublished poem straight from my journal – a raw, unpolished offering about finding appreciation when "the world is affixed in gritty grays." The poem emerged organically during my morning reflection, a gentle reminder that creativity often arrives when we create space for it. Through this personal sharing, we explore how qualities like authenticity, self-empathy, and peace can become intentional anchors during challenging weeks.Perhaps most importantly, we redefine what peace actually means. Rather than waiting for external circumstances to become peaceful (which rarely happens!), we discover how to cultivate inner stillness regardless of outer chaos. Peace becomes not a destination but a practice – finding harmony within the disharmony, stillness within movement, and grace within imperfection. Join me in this intimate conversation about becoming relentless beauty-seekers and compassionate storytellers of our own lives. We explore the multi-faceted nature of clutter—not just in terms of physical possessions, but also in emotional and mental contexts. Recognizing that letting go is a vital aspect of self-care, I emphasize the importance of implementing mindful practices that allow for a gradual release of what no longer serves us.I begin by addressing the misconceptions around decluttering, particularly the idea that one must make sweeping changes to experience relief. Instead, I advocate for micro practices, highlighting that even small steps can lead to significant changes in how our nervous system responds to the act of letting go. By introducing concepts like the "three-item rule," I encourage you to identify and release three small items or commitments each day. This simple yet effective approach helps to diminish feelings of overwhelm and teaches our nervous system that it is safe to let go, fostering a sense of calm and stability. Moreover, I emphasize the power of gratitude in the decluttering process. Before parting with an item, I suggest taking a moment to acknowledge its role in your life and express gratitude, creating a sense of closure. This practice not only soothes the nervous system but also reframes letting go as an act of appreciation rather than loss. I share personal anecdotes about my own decluttering journey, reflecting on the emotional challenges and the subsequent sense of relief that comes with intentional release.#Clutter, #Decluttering, #LettingGo, #EmotionalRelease, #NervousSystem, #Boundaries, #SelfCare, #Healing, #InnerPeace, #Calm, #Safety, #MicroPractices, #ThreeItemRule, #GratitudeAndGoodbyes, #IntentionalClosure, #Reframing, #RespectfulRelease, #DecisionFatigue, #SelfTrust, #Mindfulness, #PresentMoment, #Affirmation, #Anxiety, #Overwhelm, #StressRelief, #PersonalGrowth, #Wellbeing, #Freedom, #Clarity, #GinaRyan, #JosephCampbell, #AnxietyCoachesPodcast #ACPSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
