This week Julius and I talk about Bullet ♥︎ and, really, Bullet ★. These games are in the style of Bullet Hell video games were bullets are flying all over the place in overwhelming quantities. It's a really fast playing simultaneous play game with a timer. Julius find the timer optional and I appreciate that because it makes the game sound more fun to me. Bullet ♥︎ (BGG) Bullet ★ (BGG) Bullet series (Level 99)

What is a Shoot Em' Up? Defining the Genre with Shmup Junkie. This video has literally been years in the making. As much as we all the love Shoot Em' Up (shmup, STG) genre, what's embarrassing is that, up to this point, over all these decades, there has never been a solid criteria or definition of what a shmup even is. For a genre that is so fundamental you'd think this would have been established by now, but due to the nature of online discourse, this question has never been resolved. Over the years, I have worked on what I think are the 3 criteria of what I believe consitute a shmup, and in today's video I explain these criteria and run them by fellow youtuber, Shmup Junkie, to hear his reaction and thoughts. We not only talk about shmups, but also related genres like run n' gun, rail shooter, gallery shooter, first person shooter (fps), third person shooter, single screen games, metal slug, contra, platformers, twin stick shooters, Star Fox, Doom, and many more! I think we have a fantastic discussion and I do think this is one of the most important episode of The Electric Underground :-) I am now going to list off some algorthym tags: Nintendo Switch, Steam, Bullet Hell, PS4. PS5, Xbox, PC, Indie, Hidden Gem, Sega, CAVE, Touhou, Battle Garegga, Longplay, 1cc, Podcast.

Grid Force: The Underdog 2022 Bullet-Hell RPG Episode 6 Do not sleep on this game (like Sebastion almost did)! There are always new games being released, so trying every single one can be impossible. Sebastion almost didn't give Grid Force a chance because, frankly, the trailer wasn't convincing enough, but after deciding to give it a try anyway, Sebastian rates this game a solid 8 out of 10!From game play, game story, to the cast of characters, this game delivers on every level. This fast paced, high energy, game with strong female characters, coupled with it being highly interactive where you can choose different story lines to change the course of the game, makes for an addicting and unique gaming experience. There are however some downsides to this game, like with any game. Aspects get lost within the game, and some of the execution of elements aren't very well done. Regardless of some missteps, if you like addicting gameplay and a diverse fun roster of characters, you will love this game!In today's episode, Sebastion goes over all the great components of Grid Force in detail as well as its downsides to give you a better picture of whether you should choose this game.Tune in to hear Sebastion's review on Grid Force and his take on why you should play it! Mushihimesama is one of many arcade titles developed by Cave, who were best known for their danmaku or ‘bullet hell' style shoot ‘em ups during the late 90's and 2000's. First released in 2004, Mushihimesama stood in stark contrast to the glut of sci-fi shooters with its beautiful visual style that depicted a wild and untamed fantasy world ruled by enormous insects. Since then it has seen many re-releases on the PlayStation 2, Xbox360, phones, PC and most recently the Nintendo Switch. In Mushihimesama you take control of Reco, daughter to the royal family, on her quest to save her village from the enormous insect-like Koujuu. While you'll destroy hundreds of these immense beasts on your journey, you'll find their sheer firepower to be a seemingly overwhelming threat. Mushihimesama does the bullet hell genre proud, splaying thousands of bullets on your screen in ever increasing complexity, with it taking only a single stray bullet to consume one of your precious lives. You do your best to weave between the bulletstorm before inevitably failing, and trying yet again. We're joined by special guest George Witt of the Nostalgia Goggles podcast to discuss the ins and outs of the game, from its fundamental structure as an arcade cabinet game to the visuals and sound. Is Mushihimesama a game worth your time to play today, or does it deserve to burn in bullet hell? On this episode, we discuss:Does Mushihimesama's structure as a One Credit Clear arcade-game enhance or detract from the enjoyment of playing it versus traditional titles with checkpoints or quicksaves? Do the plethora of practice and alternative modes alleviate the need for checkpoints? How enjoyable is the moment to moment gameplay? Is dodging bullets as enjoyable as it seemed to be in the Matrix, and in what ways does the game turn it from a seeming impossibility to something tangible and achievable? How does Mushihimesama use its aesthetics and sound in such a way that it doesn't conflict with the mechanical heart of the gameplay experience? We answer these questions and many more on the 80th episode of the Retro Spectives Podcast!—Thanks again to George for appearing on our show! Nostalgia Goggles is not only a great show in its own right, they also started way before us, making them the original and the best. If you enjoy what you hear on Retro Spectives, Nostalgia Goggles will be right up your alley - it's dense and involved analysis on what makes these classic games tick and why.

Archvale wears its influences on its sleeve but that doesn't stop it from being an engaging and fun experience. Armed various different types of weapons and bombs its your job to take down the evil the is spread across the land. While this may look like a typical Zelda clone players will quickly find out it is far more than that. With enemies that are dangerous and far more aggressive than you might think, this adventure is Zelda meets a Bullet Hell shooter that is challenging and gripping. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/game-pass-or-pass/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/game-pass-or-pass/support

Plenty of stuff to talk about this week. Sony fleecing devs, and trademarking xbox games. No one is playing Anthem any more and loads of games getting the High FPS treatment on XBox. Lee and Brooker are here to discuss, at length, the ups and downs of Housemarque's latest slice of Bullet Hell insanity. All three of us get into the myriad of games they've gotten into this last couple of weeks. If you want to hear Lee and Brooker chat about the latest Mortal Kombat movie, tune into to Reel Talk (https://twitter.com/reeltalkwmt) next week.

We talk about two Horror SHMUPs, a rare sub-sub-genre of games that mix the gameplay of classic arcade shoot-em-ups with the aesthetics of horror. We discuss the visceral delights (and Bullet Hell-induced headaches) of dodging and shooting as well as the bits of story and Edward Gorey-inspired aesthetics sprinkled throughout these games.

With our fourth episode we enter the realms of bullet hell and return with a fighter circling ever smaller circles of niche, Senko no Ronde 2! From the crew that helped bring you Ikaruga and Gradius V, comes an arena fighter that blends bullet hell shooters and mech anime.Join us as we dance between missiles, dig into the absurd pilot backstories, and fight each other off by turning into space station sized weapons. 'Tis time to test your gaming expertise once again, this time with a Contra-style, machine gun bevy of tricky trivia. In other words, a perfect test while you drive to work, run errands, or are just hanging around bored with your friends. Good luck getting a perfect score, though! Continuamos con What Remains of Edith Finch desarrollado por Giant Sparrow. Juank, Travol y RodoR

This week as we are joined by Tim Bermanseder, a Director and Technical Artist at Cardboard Keep, the studio behind Witch Thief. Witch Thief combines a fun magical girl art style with the chaotic projectile dodging action. Tim went into detail about what it took to bring such a game to life, and how it all started with a Witch. The game preservationists at the Museum of Art and Digital Entertainment (MADE), are leading the charge to preserve servers and other digital spaces, from falling into obscurity, all in the name education and study. However the Entertainment Software Association (ESA), is pushing back against this idea, saying that this allow easy theft of valuable IP and copyrighted content. How do games fit between historical objects and saleable products? You can find us on social media, Discord, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Twitch, YouTube and Steam. Just search for "pixelsift"

Get those reflexes ready, welcome to Bullet-Hell's Kitchen! This week we dig into the soaring, energetic, and often manic tunes of arcade shoot'em-ups! We look at the old and new, horizontal and vertical, and the cute and insane! We also create a shooter based on Pernell, and Rob becomes an old man battling against impossible odds.
Zumindest, was die Heldinnen betrifft. (raf)
Vic and Marissa talk about Sky Force, a fun bullet hell game on your phone.
This is episode is late... I have no reason for it to be this late, it just is. Sorry. This episode was fairly uneventful apart from some talking about Danganronpa, Double Fine and discussing videogame bosses for about thirty minutes.
Recorded on September 29, 2012 with Brian Fife, James Fingal and Thomas Westberg. In the post MMO-RPG world, we tend to make a lot of assumptions about what leveling is and how characters develop as they level, but there’s a lot of diversity in how leveling mechanics are managed. Jim, Brian and Tom discuss how leveling has evolved over the years. Many games purport to have multiple leveling paths that result in differentiated gameplay experiences, but often due to balance or complexity/cost reasons this ideal is not realized. Additionally, social pressure in online games tends to homogenize the character “builds”. Tom loathes auto-scaling zones in open-world games. Jim develops an unhealthy obsession with the TV Tropes website while researching this topic (you have been warned). Everyone agrees that the prospect of losing a level or having XP stolen is terrifying.
