Police were confronted with two immediate priorities: locating the kidnapped woman before she could be seriously injured or killed and identifying the people responsible for the crime. Her safe recovery, however, did not end the case. Once the victim was protected, the focus shifted toward determining exactly what had happened, identifying every participant, and gathering enough evidence to support criminal charges. Brady describes police work as a process that frequently continues long after the most visible danger has passed. The public may see the rescue or initial arrest, but investigators must then reconstruct the crime in a way that will withstand scrutiny in court. Three people were reportedly taken into custody in connection with the kidnapping. The Investigation and Several Arrests A successful kidnapping prosecution requires more than suspicion. Investigators must establish the role played by each alleged offender and connect that person to the crime through reliable evidence. Although Brady does not reveal every sensitive detail of the case, he emphasizes the importance of patience and coordination. “Complex cases are built one fact at a time,” he explains. “Investigators have to follow the evidence wherever it leads and avoid becoming locked into a theory too early.” Police also must consider whether the crime crosses jurisdictional boundaries. If a victim is transported across state lines or other circumstances bring the offense under federal jurisdiction, federal kidnapping statutes may apply. Under 18 U.S. Code § 1201, kidnapping can become a serious federal offense carrying severe penalties. California also has its own kidnapping laws and sentencing provisions. The precise charges depend on the facts, including whether a weapon was used, whether the victim suffered bodily harm, how the victim was moved or confined, and whether ransom, robbery, or another crime was involved. In the tennis club case, the violent assault, armed abduction, rescue, and eventual arrests illustrate why kidnapping investigations demand immediate action followed by methodical detective work. The case also demonstrates the emotional strain placed on victims. The physical rescue may occur within hours, but the psychological effects can last for years. When a Barricade Turned Deadly The kidnapping investigation was not the only critical incident Brady encountered during his law enforcement career. Earlier in his career, he tested for a police captain's position and was hired in Farmington, New Mexico. While serving there, he became involved in a dangerous call involving an armed, mentally disturbed man. The incident reportedly began when the man lost control and set his own residence on fire. As flames spread, the emergency became both a fire scene and an armed barricade. Police officers, firefighters, and tactical personnel faced an almost impossible situation. They had to contain the fire, protect neighboring residents, and attempt to prevent the armed man from harming himself or anyone else. Responders wanted to bring the incident to a peaceful conclusion. According to Brady, officers considered using a fire hose to disable or disorient the man without using deadly force. It was an unusual strategy, but the circumstances were anything but ordinary. “They were searching for every reasonable option that might end the confrontation without someone dying,” Brady recalls. “The goal was to create an opportunity to take him into custody safely.” The plan changed when the suspect returned carrying a gun. At that moment, the threat was no longer theoretical. An armed man was confronting police during an active fire and barricade situation. A SWAT officer ultimately shot and killed him. Extraordinary Efforts to Avoid Deadly Force Officer-involved shootings are often judged through short video clips, incomplete reports, or information released before an investigation is finished. Brady's account shows how much may occur before an officer fires a weapon. Police had attempted to contain the suspect. They considered less-lethal and unconventional methods. They tried to create time and distance. Yet the suspect's return with a firearm forced officers to react to an immediate threat. The Law Enforcement Talk Radio Show and Podcast continues bringing listeners real conversations from the front lines of crime, policing, trauma, survival, and healing. “No officer arrives at a scene hoping it will end with a fatal shooting,” Brady says. “The objective is to protect life, including the life of the person creating the danger. Officers must balance compassion for a person in crisis against their responsibility to protect firefighters, neighbors, fellow officers, and the public. Mental illness may help explain a person's behavior, but it does not make an armed threat less dangerous. When a suspect presents a firearm, officers have only moments to assess intent, opportunity, distance, surroundings, and the risk to innocent people. The Farmington incident remained memorable to Brady because of the extraordinary efforts made to resolve it peacefully, and because those efforts ultimately could not prevent a fatal outcome. From Police Officer to Police Chief Brady's law enforcement journey carried him through several very different communities. Born and raised in San Francisco, he was inspired by the city's architecture, sports teams, traditions, neighborhoods, and colorful personalities. That environment later influenced both his police career and his fiction. His work took him from the eclectic streets of Berkeley to Farmington's Southwestern landscape and eventually back to the California Bay Area. He later became Chief of Police in Novato. The transition may appear dramatic, but many skills learned in police work transfer naturally into corporate security. Risk assessment, crisis response, investigations, personnel management, threat prevention, and communication are valuable in both professions. Und nochmal mit dem Schiff unterwegs Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced wirkt wie genau das Remake, auf das viele Fans gewartet haben. Schon das Original gehört für viele zu den stärksten Teilen der Reihe, und die neue Version bringt dieses Gefühl auf der PS5 Pro noch einmal deutlich eindrucksvoller zurück. Besonders stark ist, wie gut das Spiel den Charme des Originals bewahrt und gleichzeitig moderner wirkt. Die Seefahrten, die karibische Atmosphäre und das Leben als Pirat fühlen sich immer noch frei und abenteuerlich an, aber die überarbeitete Präsentation macht alles klarer, lebendiger und insgesamt deutlich hochwertiger. Schärfere Details, saubere Bildqualität und eine insgesamt deutlich stärkere technische Präsentation sorgen dafür, dass man noch tiefer in die tropische Spielwelt eintaucht. Das Meer wirkt bedrohlicher, die Inseln stimmungsvoller und die Kämpfe spürbar intensiver. Dadurch bekommt das Spiel eine frische Energie, ohne seinen Charakter zu verlieren. Noch teurer wird es bei der High-End-Xbox Series X: Die Digital Edition ohne Laufwerk kostet künftig etwa 750 Euro, das Modell mit Disc-Laufwerk sogar rund 800 Euro. Geburtstag des einstigen Rundfunks im amerikanischen Sektor Berlins. Aus diesem Grund hat Alexander Tauscher RIAS-Moderatoren und RIAS-Hörer getroffen. Die Reise startet im einstigen amerikansischen Sektor, in Berlin Alt-Mariendorf. Hier lebt mit weit über 90 Jahren die RIAS-Ikone Horst Wendt. Alexander Tauscher hatte ihn als Schüler einst im RIAS-Funkhaus an der Kufsteiner Straße besucht und durfte nun bei Horst Wendt zu Hause in seinem privaten RIAS-Album blättern und natürlich mit dieser prägenden Stimme ein Interview führen. Diese enge Freundschaft mit Horst Wendt teilt auch Jürgen Stader aus Hof. Er ist Vorsitzende des Bundes der Berliner und Freunde Berlins in der Sektion Franken. Mit ihm sprechen wir zum Beispiel über das legende Licht der einstigen RIAS-Sendeanlagen in  Hof, dass Jürgen gerettet hat. Bei einer Feier zum 80. Geburtstag der leider längst verklungenen Station trafen wir auf dem Gelände des Ersten FC Wacker Plauen dessen langjährigen Vorsitzenden Wolfgang Dörschel. Er spricht über die Bedeutung des RIAS in der Ostvorstand, über ein Leben im einstigen Arbeiterviertel und die Veränderungen nach der Wende. Die Geburstagsparty für einen lieben Freund im Äther hatte Karsten Repert organisiert, mit dem wir ebenfalls in Erinnerungen an die vier Buchstaben schwelgen. Wiley learned by working, making adjustments, and continuing to show up. He gradually became more comfortable with his voice and his role as a broadcaster. Copyright ©2026, Weird Darkness.Originally aired: July 24, 2026This episode of Weird Darkness follows the disappearance and death of Theresa Dawn Jones near Bernice, Louisiana, a case that ran from a missing persons report to an accidental-drowning ruling to a homicide reinvestigation — and the phone call from a psychic medium a thousand miles away that pointed her family straight to the body.On the night of February 2nd, 2023, fifty-six-year-old Theresa Jones walked out of her home in the Evergreen community on Lake D'Arbonne wearing pink pajamas, leaving behind her phone, her wallet, her car keys, and the eyeglasses she needed to see, and by the time her boyfriend returned from a work trip in Lake Charles he found the house torn apart and Theresa gone. The Union Parish Sheriff's Office searched with a Lincoln Parish K9 unit that tracked her scent out to Highway 2 before losing it, chased sightings of a woman carrying gas cans and a stop at a Circle K in West Monroe, then stalled. Her daughters Ashley Deese and Brittany turned to Carolyn Clapper, a Wisconsin medium who took their call at 10:48 at night and, over forty-five minutes, described a fallen log at a tree line, a creek, and a sickness that would come over whoever went looking — directions that led Ashley to her mother's body in Edmonds Creek the next morning, found nude from the waist down with the water still shallow around her. Dr. Frank Peretti's autopsy in Little Rock ruled the death an accidental drowning with methamphetamine intoxication as a contributing factor, and the sheriff's office closed the case in August 2023, but Ashley never accepted it, and a retired Texas aquatic-death investigator named Greg Lawson publicly questioned why no rape kit or fingernail scraping was ever done. More than a year later, private forensic consultant John Oliveira of Applied Forensic Solutions reviewed the file and found only 150 milliliters of water in the lungs, livor mortis fixed in the legs rather than the face-down position she was found in, a clean upper jacket above the waterline, and bruising the autopsy never recorded — evidence pointing away from drowning and toward a body staged in the water after death. At the end of October 2025, Oliveira presented those findings to Union Parish detectives, and the sheriff's office reopened Theresa Jones's death as a possible homicide, more than two years after the paperwork first called it an accident.
