Industry news lightning fast. Your hosts, Allen Hall, Joel Saxum, and Phil Totaro discuss the latest deals, mergers, and alliances that will shape the future of wind power. News Flash is brought to you by IntelStor. For market intelligence that generates revenue, visit www.intelstor.com. Allen Hall: Right, first up, the U. S. Department of Agriculture has announced a 4. 37 billion dollars in funding through their Empowering Rural America program. This historic investment, the largest in rural electrification since 1936, will support clean energy development across seven states. Now the program aims 5, 000 jobs, reduce electricity costs, and cut climate pollution by about 1. 1 million tons annually. 4. 37 billion as the Biden administration exits the executive branch is a lot of money. Does this have a chance of, of existing once the new administration comes in? Phil Totaro: Yeah, I actually think so because this, this program is done through the Department of Agriculture interestingly enough, not the Department of Energy, and the reason that they're doing it is because the co ops are actually, outside of kind of the, the organized utilities coordinating like corporate power buying. The co ops are actually one of the biggest You know, in aggregate power buyers in, in the United States, especially when you start talking about all the co ops, we're getting kind of gobbled up by Touchstone and, you know, most co ops in the United States are now organized under, you know, a parent kind of umbrella corporation. So this is a lot of money that's going into, you know, basically subsidizing renewable energy power buying or the development of distributed power generation facilities. That are gonna be adjacent to these these rural communities that are able to take advantage of this this bunny. So, this is one where I really do hope that they don't try and cut it because this is actually, like, Putting money in the pockets of people that are doing clean energy power buying, and it's actually helping get wind and solar and storage deployed on the grid. So I, this is actually a great program. Great for the department of agriculture to be doing it. Not sure why the department of energy wasn't previously on board with something like this. Joel Saxum: Coming from someone who has co op power now and grew up with co op power up in Northern Wisconsin in a rural area, injection of capital into rural environments anywhere makes me smile. So, because they usually don't see as much, right? So when a big project comes through or something gets announced like this, everybody gets a little bit happy in those areas. And so, weird to see it. Not weird, I suppose, in a lame duck situation from the federal government, but yeah, I hope this one continues to, to roll forward in these projects to get some ink behind them before January 20th. Allen Hall: In our next story, Brookfield Asset Management has completed its acquisition of 53 percent stake in French renewable power ...

Also, a reminder. I do not evaluate any of the stocks or funds mentioned in these podcasts, nor do I receive any compensation from anyone covered in these podcasts. Furthermore, I will reveal to you any personal investments I have in the investments mentioned herein. Additionally, quotes about individual companies are brief. Please go to this podcast's webpage for links to the actual articles for more company and stock information. Also, some companies might be covered more than once and there are also 3 article links below that time didn't allow for me to cover here. ------------------------------------------------------------- These 50 Canadian corporations are betting big on green Now nearly all the articles covered in this episode relate to renewable energy investments – except this one. Though it's about Canadian companies, many of them will be of interest to ethical investors globally. Hence, I'm beginning with it and it's titled These 50 Canadian corporations are betting big on green. The editorial is by Rick Spence and appears on corporateknights.com. “Now in its 23rd year, the Best 50 helps track how Canadian businesses are meeting the low-carbon and green-transition challenge – as well as where they're getting stuck in the process… The companies that made the Best 50 are mostly corporations with more than $1 billion in annual revenues, as well as Crown corporations, large co-ops and members of the S&P/TSX Renewable Energy and Clean Technology Index. What sets them apart is their commitment to doing business differently – they're companies that derive significant revenue from greener products and services, invest in increasingly sustainable projects, and prioritize equity in their operations. Crucially, the companies' average sustainable investment (as a percentage of total investment) hit 58.9% this year, up 9% over last year's 49.7% – that's compared to just 8.4% for the average large Canadian corporation.” End quotes. Among the top public companies on the list are Brookfield Renewable Partners LP (NYSE:BEP), Wheaton Precious Metals Corp. (WPM), Cascades Inc. (CAS.TO), and BCE Inc. (BCE.TO). ------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More So, back to the renewable energy sector with this first article titled 3 Best Renewable Energy Stocks to Buy in July 2024, According to Analysts. It's by Sheryl Sheth and seen on nasdaq.com. Here are some of her comments. “1 Fluence Energy (NASDAQ:FLNC) is engaged in empowering the global clean energy transition by providing energy storage solutions. The company also offers cloud-based software solutions for renewables and energy storage. Importantly, Fluence Energy has the backing of two industry-leading companies, Siemens (DE:SIE) and AES Corp. (NYSE:AES)… On TipRanks, Fluence Energy stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating based on 12 Buys and three Hold recommendations. The average Fluence Energy price target of $30.21 implies an impressive 83.9% upside potential from current levels. Meanwhile, Fluence Energy shares have plunged 31.1% so far in 2024. 2. ReNew Energy Global (NASDAQ:RNW) India-based ReNew Energy Global is one of the largest renewable companies in the world, with a clean energy portfolio of roughly 15.6GW (gigawatts) on a gross basis as of May 31. The company provides innovative and sustainable decarbonization solutions for corporates. Plus, it engages in the production of wind, solar, and hydropower and manufactures solar PV (photovoltaic) cells… With six unanimous Buy ratings, ReNew Energy Global stock commands a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks. The average ReNew Energy Global price target of $8.82 implies 45.1% upside potential from current levels. Year-to-date, ReNew Energy Global shares have lost 19.5%. 3. Clearway Energy, Inc. (NYSE:CWEN) claims to own one of the largest renewable energy portfolios in the U.S. The company has approximately 6,200 net MW (megawatts) of installed wind, solar, and battery energy storage systems. Plus, it owns another 2,500 net MW of environmentally-sound, highly efficient natural gas generation facilities. The company believes in rewarding shareholders with generous dividend payments… With six Buys and one Hold rating, Clearway Energy stock has a Strong Buy consensus rating on TipRanks. The average Clearway Energy Class C price target of $31 implies 27.6% upside potential from current levels. Clearway Energy shares have declined 8.4% so far in 2024.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 2) Renewable Energy Stock Picks – and More Also, related to renewable energy is this article titled 3 ESG Funds to Buy As Sustainable Investing Gathers Steam. It's by Zacks Equity Research and found at au.sports.yahoo.com. Here are some comments on their picks from the Zack's analysts. “All of these funds carry a Zacks Mutual Fund Rank #2 (Buy). In addition, the minimum initial investment for these funds is within $5,000. We expect these funds to outperform their peers in the future… Unlike most of the fund-rating systems, the Zacks Mutual Fund Rank is not just focused on past performance but also on the likely future success of the fund. 1. Fidelity Select Environment and Alternative Energy Portfolio (FSLEX) The fund invests… in securities of companies mostly engaged in activities related to alternative and renewable energy, energy efficiency, pollution control, water infrastructure, waste and recycling technologies or other environmental support services. The non-diversified fund invests in U.S. and non-U.S. issuers alike… Fidelity Select Environment and Alternative Energy Portfolio has an annual expense ratio of 0.85%, which is below the category average of 1.09%. It has returned 4.9% over the past five years. 2. Parnassus Core Equity Fund - Investor Shares (PRBLX) aims for capital growth and current income through its investments… (It)… invests in large-capitalization companies in the United States that have long-term competitive advantages and relevancy, quality management teams and positive performance in the ESG criteria… Parnassus Core Equity Fund - Investor Shares has an annual expense ratio of 0.86%, which is below the category average of 0.93%. It has returned 9.1% over the past five years. 3. TIAA-CREF Core Impact Bond Fund Retail Class (TSBRX) The fund invests (most of) … its assets in bonds. TIAA-CREF Core Impact Bond Fund Retail Class gives particular consideration to environmental, social and governance criteria… TIAA-CREF Core Impact Bond Fund Retail Class has an annual expense ratio of 0.65%, which is below the category average of 0.80%. It has returned 3.2% over the past five years.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 3) Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More And here is my next renewable energy article. It's titled The 3 Smartest Renewable Energy Stocks to Buy With $500 Right Now and is by Rich Duprey and found on investorplace.com. Now some brief quotes from Mr. Duprey on each of his picks. 1. NextEra Energy (NYSE:NEE) is the first renewable energy stock that investors should consider buying. It is the world's largest generator of renewable energy from the wind and sun and a top-tier stock in battery storage. At the end of 2023, NextEra had approximately 72 gigawatts (GW) of total capacity in its portfolio. Of that amount, half or 36 GW came from renewables, some 70% more than its nearest competitor with wind power represented as two-thirds of the total renewable capacity… NextEra Energy will be one of the top renewable energy stocks to buy that leads the way. 2. Brookfield Renewable Partners (NYSE:BEP) is the leading provider of hydropower in the country. It operates as one of the world's largest publicly traded platforms for renewable power and decarbonization solutions. Yet where 85% of Brookfield's portfolio was once hydropower generation, today it stands at about 50% as the company grew through mergers and acquisitions… Although it primarily has projects in North America and Latin America, more recently as the Neoen acquisition shows, it is expanding more towards Europe and Asia. Brookfield Renewable Partners is a renewable energy stock to buy because of its hydro sector dominance that cannot be easily, or readily, replicated. 3. First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR) is the world's leading manufacturer of thin-film solar panel technology and a pure-play in the solar panel space. It focuses on the U.S. and Indian markets where the greatest booking potential lays, particularly in the domestic utility-scale market… First Solar has built a solid financial foundation and a strong balance sheet to weather future storms. Its thin-film cadmium telluride technology is distinctive in the industry that benefits from its simple manufacturing process. First Solar should also benefit from the Biden administration's protectionist trade policies. It recently imposed high-import barriers on cheaper Chinese panels.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 4) Renewable Energy Stock Picks -- and More This last article takes us away from renewable energy. It's titled 6 impact investing firms and funds that are top picks from U.S. News. The article's authors are staff at equities.com. Now some brief quotes from the article. “Impact investing firms 1. Eaton Vance Corp. (EV) When this investment management firm bought Calvert Investment Management in 2016, it acquired a company that's been involved in responsible investing for years. It launched an ESG bond portfolio in 1987 and a non-U.S. ESG portfolio in 1992. In 1995, it debuted Calvert Impact Capital. Now, Calvert Impact offers notes targeting community investment, carbon reduction and a more inclusive banking system. It also offers several small business recovery funds. 2. Impax Asset Management Group PLC. (IPXAF) This is another firm that grew its impact investing offerings through an acquisition. In 2017, it announced that it would buy Pax World Management. Impax has worked with the World Bank to structure an impact bond to finance 300,000 water purifiers for schools and other institutions in Vietnam… 3. Trillium Asset Management. This ESG-focused fund provider offers impact investing strategies targeting sustainable agriculture, low-income housing, job creation and retention, Native American community development, financial services that help people avoid predatory payday lenders, environmental sustainability, development of domestic and international communities and child care. It typically directs investments to nonprofit loan funds or development banks and credit unions targeting historically underserved sections of society. Impact investing funds 1. First Trust Nasdaq Clean Edge Green Energy Index Fund (QCLN) This alternative energy fund tracks an index of securities issued by companies involved in advanced materials, energy intelligence, renewable electricity generation and renewable fuels, and energy storage and conversion. The $702 million fund has an expense ratio of 0.59%, or $59 per year for every $10,000 invested. It also paid a 30-day SEC yield of 1.2% as of the end of May. (It)… is up more than 60% over the past five years, though the last few years have been rough going for the fund. 2. Invesco Water Resources ETF (PHO) This ETF tracks an index of companies involved in the conservation and purification of water for homes, businesses and industries. Most of its holdings focused on resource security and basic needs, with a smaller percentage allocated to climate action. The $2.1 billion fund has an expense ratio of 0.6% and is up more than 80% over the past five years. 3. YWCA Women's Empowerment ETF (WOMN) This fund hits on a theme that is big in the impact investing community: women's empowerment. (It)… tracks an index of companies that ‘have strong policies and practices in support of women's empowerment and gender equality,' the fund's website says. Impact Shares donates all the net advisory profits from (the fund) to the YWCA. The $56 million ETF has an expense ratio of 0.75% and is up more than 74% over the past five years, beating its category average.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Honorable Mentions that time didn't allow me to cover here 1.

Rusty is coming back to Doctor Who. No, not that one. It's Russell T Davies, back to regenerate the greatest show on TV with his old production team. It remains to be seen whether he can recapture the magic, but the BBC must be desperate. Gaming PCs are incredibly rare, and they're likely to get even rarer. This means people will pay a massive premium, and that entry level parts don't really exist anymore. This makes us sad. Everyone should have the opportunity to build a PC and learn about electronics. Maybe in the post apocalyptic future there will be enough supply to meet demand. An Aussie team has created a significantly cheaper and easier to make solar panel that outperforms traditional panels. The sunniest place on Earth could really use some of those. They still need to scale up, but it's great to see Aussie scientists making huge strides. While many gamers might not know McGinty by name, those that grew up in the '90s will immediately recognize his art. The artist contributed some of the most iconic images in all of gaming, telling stories that immediately captivated players. McGinty was an immensely talented artist, as is evidenced by the impressive collection of work on his personal site, but for gamers of the '90s, his output will be almost synonymous with video game covers. He is perhaps most famous with Nintendo fans for creating the western cover artwork for the SNES version of Street Fighter II. While many people took issue with the 'westernisation' of the artwork at the time, it was very common practice for companies like Nintendo to commission entirely new artwork which was better suited to a particular region. McGinty's cover – which features Chun-Li fighting Blanka over the prone body of Ryu – has gone down as one of the most recognisable video game covers of all time. McGinty's association with Street Fighter would continue with Street Fighter II: Champion Edition on the Mega Drive / Genesis, Street Fighter II Turbo on the SNES and Super Street Fighter II.21st September 2021 – Endangered South African penguins killed by swarm of bees near Cape Town - https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-58622482Sixty-three endangered African penguins have been killed by a swarm of bees in a rare occurrence near Cape Town, bird conservationists in South Africa say. The protected birds, from a colony in Simonstown, were found on the shore with multiple bee-stings. They had no other physical injuries. National parks officials told the BBC this was the first known attack at the world-famous Boulders Beach, which attracts up to 60,000 visitors a year. "Usually the penguins and bees co-exist," said Dr Alison Kock, a marine biologist with South Africa's national parks agency (SANParks). "The bees don't sting unless provoked - we are working on the assumption that a nest or hive in the area was disturbed and caused a mass of bees to flee the nest, swarm and became aggressive," she added. "Unfortunately the bees encountered a group of penguins on their flight path." Post-mortems found that the birds had been stung around the eyes and on their flippers. That is because "those are the parts that are not covered by feathers," Dr Katta Ludynia, from the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (Sanccob), told the BBC. Penguins have pink sweat glands around their eyes and "that area is particularly thin - similar to human fingers," explained Shanet Rutgers, senior penguin keeper at Cape Town's Two Oceans Aquarium. One of the penguins had been stung 27 times. African penguins are distinctive for their small size, and live on the coast and islands of South Africa and Namibia - though some have been spotted as far north as Gabon.Their populations are rapidly declining, the International Union for Conservation of Nature says. The national body said in a statement on Sunday that it was still conducting toxicity and disease checks on the birds, and would continue to monitor the situation.22nd September 2021 – 10th Anniversary of Dark Souls - https://www.glitched.online/landmark-rpg-dark-souls-celebrates-its-10th-anniversary-today/ Ten years ago to the day, Japanese video game developer From Software released the critically acclaimed dark fantasy action RPG, Dark Souls, which would go on to change the gaming landscape forever. Refining the formula already established in Demon's Souls while introducing a bevy of new mechanics that have been adopted and replicated by other titles, Dark Souls would spearhead an entirely new sub-genre of gaming. Today, Dark Souls officially celebrates its 10th anniversary. Dark Souls‘ history is relatively straightforward in comparison to many other success stories in gaming. From Software first dabbled in the dark fantasy setting with Demon's Souls, showcasing their ability to tell epic but narratively mysterious tales featuring fantastical beasts, ambiguous NPCs and deceptively challenging gameplay. The last part has remained the foundation of all From Software games since, increasing their difficulty in newer titles like Bloodborne and Sekiro while still retaining their creative power for captivating and immersive stories, worlds and characters. Dark Souls was well-received by fans, often cited as their favourite game of all time. It's success went on to spawn two sequels, Dark Souls II and Dark Souls III; two creative spiritual successors in Bloodborne and the upcoming Elden Ring; and a Tenchu-styled action title Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice that heavily borrowed elements from From Software's trademark style. Demon's Souls may have been the first, but it was really Dark Souls that put the Japanese studio on the map, leaving behind a legacy that has been the source of inspiration for a number of games like the Nioh series, The Surge, Lords of the Fallen, Mortal Shell, and numerous others. Dark Souls is not only remembered for its staple difficulty, but inspired world design, creative boss encounters, a plot that simply begged to be dissected and explored further, and a blueprint for a new style of game that bounced off the success of this defining RPG.24th September 2021 – 20th anniversary of Ico - https://www.nme.com/en_au/features/gaming-features/ico-minimalist-masterclass-in-cinematic-and-emotional-storytelling-3051674 Released between those two films in 2001 and 2002, Ico (pronounced ‘ee-ko' – but don't worry if you get it wrong, I did so too for a very long time) is a single-player action-adventure game developed by Sony's Japan Studio. This game kicked off the career of Fumito Ueda. It was the first in a series of games that featured similar themes, including beloved titles like Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian. Ico is special in the way it handles abandonment and isolation. Devoid almost entirely of all dialogue, Ico essentially works like a silent film. There's a clear sense of loneliness that's present throughout the entire game. But there's also a feeling of hope. Ico's soundtrack is almost suffocating at times, though it also presents a number of beautiful pieces. “Heal,” for example, is one of the best save themes in any game. Ico's soundtrack is almost suffocating at times, though it also presents a number of beautiful pieces. “Heal,” for example, is one of the best save themes in any game. One of the game's fans is also Hidetaka Miyazaki of FROM Software. Miyazaki, the creator of Demon's Souls, and in turn the Souls series, is one of the biggest game industry figures of the last decade. Much in the way the game would inspire Straley and Druckmann, Miyazaki cites Ico as a game that showed him the different possibilities that video games as a medium had to offer.Remembrances21st September 1954 – Mikimoto Kōkichi - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mikimoto_K%C5%8DkichiA Japanese entrepreneur who is credited with creating the first cultured pearl and subsequently starting the cultured pearl industry with the establishment of his luxury pearl company Mikimoto. He was inducted into the house of peers by imperial decree and posthumously awarded the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Sacred Treasure. On April 18, 1985, the Japan Patent Office selected him as one of Ten Japanese Great Inventors. The company was ranked as one of the world's most luxurious brands by Women's Wear Daily Magazine and Mikimoto was considered one of the best Japanese financial leaders of the 20th century by Nihon Keizai Shimbun. He is also known as the founder of Mikimoto Pharmaceuticals, a company specialising in beauty products containing pearl calcium. Mikimoto Pearl Island is named after him. In addition, the "Phoenix Mikimoto Crown" used by Miss Universe winners as well as the pageant crown used by Miss International is credited to his patented work. Mikimoto began his search of an alternative method to produce pearls as the chairman of the Shima Marine Products Improvement Association. At this point the demand for pearls had severely outweighed the supply, prompting the consideration of an effort to protect the oysters. In 1888, Mikimoto obtained a loan to start his first pearl oyster farm at the Shinmei inlet on Ago Bay in Mie prefecture with his wife and partner Ume. On 11 July 1893, after many failures and near bankruptcy, he was able to create the hemispherical cultured pearls. The pearls were made by seeding the oyster with a small amount of mother of pearl. In 1927, Mikimoto met with inventor, Thomas Edison, who was in awe of Mikimoto's cultured pearls as it was "supposed to be biologically impossible". He died at the age of 96 in Japan.Famous Birthdays21st September 1902 – Allen Lane - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Allen_LaneA British publisher who together with his brothers Richard and John Lane founded Penguin Books in 1935, bringing high-quality paperback fiction and non-fiction to the mass market. In 1967 he started a hardback imprint under his own name, Allen Lane. He rose quickly at Bodley Head, becoming managing editor in 1925 following the death of his uncle. After conflict with the board of directors who were wary at first—for fear of being prosecuted—of publishing James Joyce's controversial book Ulysses, Lane, together with his brothers Richard and John, founded Penguin Books in 1935 as part of the Bodley Head. Penguin Books became a separate company the following year. The legend goes that on a train journey back from visiting Agatha Christie in 1934, Lane found himself on an Exeter station platform with nothing available worth reading. He conceived of paperback editions of literature of proven quality which would be cheap enough to be sold from a vending machine; the first was set up outside Henderson's in Charing Cross Road and dubbed the "Penguincubator". Lane was also well aware of the Hamburg publisher Albatross Books and adopted many of its innovations. Most booksellers and authors were against the idea of paperbacks. They believed that paperbacks would result in individuals spending less money on books. Lane was a person that was very stubborn when it came to his company. He operated mainly on intuition and imagination. "He thrived in an atmosphere of crisis and came most fully alive under the challenge of great dilemmas." He was a creative genius that once he had an idea he would not stop until it came to fruition. Once he decided on creating paperbacks he set about in deciding what the books should look like and finding a name. He had decided that the books would be reprints so he also needed to approach other publishers to see if they and their authors would be willing to sublease the rights of the books. He was quoted as saying, "I have never been able to understand why cheap books should not also be well designed, for good design is no more expensive than bad." He was born in Bristol.Events of Interest21th September 2003 – The Galileo spacecraft is terminated by sending it into Jupiter's atmosphere. - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galileo_project#End_of_mission_and_deorbit When the exploration of Mars was being considered in the early 1960s, Carl Sagan and Sidney Coleman produced a paper concerning contamination of the red planet. In order that scientists could determine whether or not native life forms existed before the planet became contaminated by micro-organisms from Earth, they proposed that space missions should aim at a 99.9 percent chance that contamination should not occur. This figure was adopted by the Committee on Space Research (COSPAR) of the International Council of Scientific Unions in 1964, and was subsequently applied to all planetary probes. The danger was highlighted in 1969 when the Apollo 12 astronauts returned components of the Surveyor 3 spacecraft that had landed on the Moon three years before, and it was found that microbes were still viable even after three years in that harsh climate. An alternative was the Prime Directive, a philosophy of non-interference with alien life forms enunciated by the original Star Trek television series that prioritized the interests of the life forms over those of scientists. Given the (admittedly slim) prospect of life on Europa, scientists Richard Greenberg and Randall Tufts proposed that a new standard be set of no greater chance of contamination that that which might occur naturally by meteorites. Galileo had not been sterilized prior to launch and could have carried bacteria from Earth. Therefore, a plan was formulated to send the probe directly into Jupiter, in an intentional crash to eliminate the possibility of an impact with Jupiter's moons, particularly Europa, and prevent a forward contamination. On April 14, 2003, Galileo reached its greatest orbital distance from Jupiter for the entire mission since orbital insertion, 26 million km (16 million mi), before plunging back towards the gas giant for its final impact. At the completion of J35, its final orbit around the Jovian system, Galileo impacted Jupiter in darkness just south of the equator on September 21, 2003, at 18:57 UTC. Its impact speed was approximately 48.26 km/s (29.99 mi/s).21st September 1994 – Dinosaur Island premiered in Japan - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0109627/ On this day in 1994 in Japan, Dinosaur Island enjoyed its premiere on home video. The Fantasy/Comedy feature starred Griffin Drew and Michelle Bauer, and here's the premise: "An army captain is flying three misfit deserters home for a court martial when the plane has engine trouble and they must land on an uncharted island. There they find a primitive society of cave women who routinely sacrifice virgins to appease The Great One, the top dog dinosaur on the the island. Mistaken for gods, the men must destroy The Great One or face death, but meanwhile they fall in love."The cavewomen's ranch was constructed on a remote portion of David Carradine's ranch.Shot in 12 days.Almost every day was extremely hot during the shooting of this film except one.A sequence with a stop-motion animation dinosaur attacking people on the beach was changed to a hand puppet dinosaur in post-production.The filmmakers paid an additional four thousand dollars for the poster art used to advertise this film.Antonia Dorian said she was nervous filming her first love scene in this film, especially since she was going to be topless. She'd danced topless in Vegas shows and in videos, but that wasn't the same as being on a small set surrounded by male actors and crew just a few feet away, all staring at her. Jim Wynorski gave her wine to calm her nerves. He also limited how many people would be on set. That and the wine helped her finally get through the scene. When the female warriors are chasing the dinosaur towards the ocean, you can see Malibu homes in the background hills.Wynorski said that Roger Corman asked he and Fred Olen Ray to make the film after Jurassic Park came out. "It wasn't so much a Jurassic Park rip off as a cavewoman movie", Wynorski said.Wynorski and Ray said they rewrote the script entirely. They knew who they were going to cast, employing actors they had worked with before, and tailored the script accordingly. They based the characters of the soldiers on characters in Stripes. Another influence was The War that Time Forgot, part of the Star Spangled War Stories comic book series. The movie was shot at Vasquez Rocks and David Carradine's ranch at Sun Valley over ten days. Wynorski says he and Ray made it "on a wing and a prayer".Wynorski later said, "I'd never co-directed a movie before, but it was smooth sailing all the way. When one of us got tired, the other would take over. I'd usually go back to the comfort of the air-conditioned motor home and hang out with the girls. You really can't beat that."Wynorski says he was at a party when he met Joe Pesci who told him he loved the film, saying "everytime I watch it I feel like I want to go there."IntroArtist – Goblins from MarsSong Title – Super Mario - Overworld Theme (GFM Trap Remix)Song Link - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-GNMe6kF0j0&index=4&list=PLHmTsVREU3Ar1AJWkimkl6Pux3R5PB-QJFollow us onFacebook- Page - https://www.facebook.com/NerdsAmalgamated/- Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/440485136816406/Twitter - https://twitter.com/NAmalgamatedSpotify - https://open.spotify.com/show/6Nux69rftdBeeEXwD8GXrSiTunes - https://itunes.apple.com/au/podcast/top-shelf-nerds/id1347661094Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/nerds_amalgamated/Email - Nerds.Amalgamated@gmail.comSupport via Podhero- https://podhero.com/podcast/449127/nerds-amalgamated See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Wednesday 29th September. It's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they've built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It's a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too. LUCID AIR IS OFFICIALLY IN PRODUCTION "After years of anticipation, the Lucid Air is finally hitting the roads. Lucid Motors has confirmed that production of the all-new luxury EV is now underway at its gleaming new factory in Casa Grande, Arizona. The first lot of customer cars, known as the 2022 Lucid Air Dream Edition, rolled off the assembly line on Tuesday, with deliveries slated to begin in late October." says The Robb Report: "Limited to 520, this $169,000 four-wheeler is a high-powered riff on Lucid's flagship electric sedan and boasts an industry-leading range of up to 520 miles, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). That makes it the longest-range, battery-powered vehicle the agency has ever rated. The new Arizona factory, which is set across a sprawling 590-acre site, will comprise an Advanced Manufacturing Plant (AMP-1) and a Lucid Powertrain Manufacturing (LPM-1) facility that will allow the marque to build all the necessary components in-house to theoretically speed up production and save on costs." CEO Wayne Griffiths and the company's Executive Committee members visited Europe's largest electric vehicle plant to mark the start of production of the new model. The CUPRA Born will also be present at Automobile Barcelona 2021, which kicks off next Thursday 30th September and will mark the start of the model's international launch plan" With the launch of this model, which will be on the market from November, a new distribution strategy for a different customer relationship with the agency model will be launched. In addition, customers will have the option to contract the CUPRA Born through a subscription model. The Zwickau plant is the Volkswagen Group's first production plant for 100% electric vehicles and is considered the largest and most efficient electric factory in Europe. With a daily output of up to 1,400 vehicles, the German plant has an annual production capacity of around 330,000 electric cars. In addition to the CUPRA Born, four other models, the Volkswagen ID3, the Volkswagen ID4, the Audi Q4 e-tron and the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, are produced at the plant. It's called BrightDrop, and like GM's legacy brands that are electrifying, it, too, will use the company's forthcoming Ultium batteries and Ultium Drive electric motors. Unlike the rest of GM's brands, this one is aimed squarely at the fleet market. At the time, GM CEO Mary Barra revealed that Fedex would be BrightDrop's first customer. On Tuesday, BrightDrop announced that Verizon will also start using the electric vans." according to Ars Technica: "Verizon will use a second BrightDrop vehicle, called the EV410. This uses the same battery pack and motor as the EV600 that we saw in FedEx colors at the start of the year. It will also offer the same 250-mile (402 km) range and come with the same package of safety systems. Meanwhile, BrightDrop is completing the first production EV600s, which are destined to start work for Fedex this holiday season." Local authorities told Reuters the company had applied for permission to have 9,000 people on-site, beyond pandemic rules which limit such gatherings to 5,000. A website set up to register for the event says the day will involve a "behind the scenes" factory tour and the opportunity to ride in a Model Y, the car that will be produced on-site if the factory is approved." Victoria's safety regulator for electricity, gas and pipelines has granted Neoen and Tesla permission for “re-energisation testing of the Victorian Big Battery,” Neoen said in an emailed statement on Monday." according to Lora Kolodny at CNBC: "The Victorian Big Battery is owned and operated by Neoen and is one of the world's largest energy storage systems. It's intended to help avoid blackouts in the region and power homes using electricity from renewable power sources like solar and wind. The fire at the battery site in Geelong, Victoria, took place on July 30. Two Tesla Megapacks erupted into flames at the 300 megawatt (450 megawatt hours) facility. No injuries were reported, but the fire triggered a toxic air alert to surrounding neighborhoods." While Tesla's insurance is, so far, only available for owners in California, Rivian's is currently available in 40 US states. It is also offering cover for owners' homes, boats, campers and other vehicles." The exclusive special-edition electric cars will come with a range of internal and external design tweaks, including the illuminated “Crystal Face” grille with 130 LEDs." reveals Motor1.com: "Inside, every Founders Edition car will have a unique plaque on the steering wheel featuring the number of the car, while Piano Black trim strips will adorn the dashboard. The seats will be covered in black leather with brown piping, while the floor mats will also get brown piping around the edges. The car's cabin will be further decorated with black roof lining, a three-spoke heated steering wheel and aluminium pedals. Although a mere 50 Founders Edition models will come to the UK, Skoda will build 1,895 examples for customers across the world. The number pays homage to the year in which Skoda was founded by Vaclav Laurin and Vaclav Klement." Dubbed Spectre, the British super-luxe automaker's first EV will begin deliveries in late 2023, which has now become a key milestone in Rolls-Royce's roadmap to full electrification by the end of the decade." says Autoblog; "Apart from the name and layout, Rolls is being stingy with specifics, telling us only that, despite what appears to be a somewhat familiar silhouette, this is an all-new model built on the company's latest architecture, like Phantom, Ghost and Cullinan. Spectre is not merely a derivative of the Wraith, RR says. And with good reason, because Wraith was engineered around the essence of its V12. Spectre's character, we expect, will be defined by its near-silent, vibration-free electric powertrain, which makes for a very different acoustic backdrop, but that's a challenge Rolls-Royce engineers are prepared – arguably even predestined – to overcome." Production of the Tevva truck is scheduled to start in July 2022." according to electrive: "the new Tevva Truck is the first UK-developed 7.5-tonne electric truck designed for mass production. The model is to be manufactured at a yet-to-be-built factory in London's Thames Freeport. When the factory there comes on stream, production capacity is expected to be 3,000 trucks per year. However, Tevva is talking about starting production at the London plant in 2023.  The total cost of ownership is said to be comparable to that of a diesel vehicle and Tevva says: “From about 3,000 km or with a monthly consumption of 500 litres of diesel, the costs are identical.”" Read more: https://www.electrive.com/2021/09/28/tevva-presents-7-5-tonne-truck-with-range-extender/ UK FUEL SHORTAGE LEADS TO 1,600% SURGE IN EV ONLINE SEARCHES Read more: https://insideevs.com/news/536914/fuel-shortage-ev-online-searches/ RIDE-HAILING SERVICE OFFERS EVS AS DEFAULT OPTION https://www.nextgreencar.com/news/9232/ride-hailing-service-offers-evs-as-default-option/ NEW QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM If you have gone back to fossil cars, or play along, imagine you HAD decided to switch back from EV to combustion, what's the reason?  Email me your thoughts and I'll read them out on Sunday – hello@evnewsdaily.com It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast. One of the world’s largest batteries to store renewable energy is set to be built in Victoria to help drive down power costs for Victorians. The Victorian government on Thursday announced the 300 megawatt Tesla lithium-ion battery would be installed near the Moorabool Terminal Station, just outside Geelong, and would be ready by the 2021-22 summer.Energy, Environment and Climate Change Minister Lily D’Ambrosio said it would be the largest lithium-ion battery in the southern hemisphere. She said an independent analysis had showed the battery would deliver more than $2 in benefits to Victorian households and businesses for every $1 invested. She said consumers would pay for the use of the battery through their power bills, but the reduction in wholesale energy prices delivered by the battery would mean Victorians paid less for power. The battery will help reduce wholesale prices by storing renewable energy at a time when the weather makes it plentiful and at its cheapest and then discharging it into the grid when power is needed the most, such as on a 40C day.The state government said the battery would also reserve a portion of its capacity to increase the power flow through the Victoria-New South Wales Interconnector by up to 250 megawatts to help reduce the chances of unscheduled power outages in peak summer months.Global renewable energy company Neoen will pay for the construction of the battery and for its ongoing operation and maintenance.Construction of the battery was expected to create more than 85 jobs, the state government said.Ms D’Ambrosio announced on Thursday she had directed the Australian Energy Market Operator to sign a contract with Neoen to deliver the new Tesla battery.“What we want to proof against is that lack of reliability when we’re in the middle of summer, when businesses need that power to keep running and Victorians need that power at home when they crank up their air conditioners to keep cool and to keep healthy,” she said.AusNet Services executive general manager of regulation and external affairs, Alistair Parker, said it was a “terrific idea”. AusNet will be responsible for connecting the battery into the electricity transmission network that they own and operate.“The particularly smart feature of this battery is the way it enables more capacity around the network day in, day out,” he said.Ms D’Ambrosio said the service was an 11-year contract worth $84 million, and the Victorian battery would be double the size of the one already installed at Hornsdale wind farm in South Australia.text by Jack Paynter, NCA Newswire

Earlier in 2019 the two companies entered an agreement, with Hyundai investing 64 million euros and Kia investing 16 million euros."   https://performancedrive.com.au/genesis-gv60-ev-prototype-spotted-to-use-rimac-tech-0620/   VW’S BOSS: WE DON’T WANT TO END UP LIKE NOKIA "Volkswagen AG is at a critical juncture. It has weathered the pandemic relatively well but is fretting about cases going up again. It has electric cars rolling out but is well behind Tesla Inc. And it has massive manufacturing scale but desperately needs to rethink its vehicles as rolling software devices." reports Bloomberg: "It’s this last issue that Chief Executive Officer Herbert Diess drives home with VW’s more than 635,000 employees. The transition in competencies from industrial might to software prowess will be an immense challenge for automakers that are vast, deliberate and some say ripe for disruption. Car companies that get it wrong risk ending up like Nokia Oyj—failed hardware makers doomed by more nimble and technologically adept upstarts." “Nokia is probably a good example of how such a change can happen—if you’re not fast enough, you’re not going to survive,” Diess, 62, told Bloomberg at VW headquarters in Wolfsburg, Germany. “I’m always telling our people this example.”"   https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-11-06/vw-s-boss-warns-the-troops-we-don-t-want-to-end-up-like-nokia   VOLKSWAGEN TRANSFORMS TROPICAL ISLAND INTO ELECTRIC CAR PARADISE "As part of its strategy to become carbon neutral by 2050, Volkswagen is transforming the tropical Greek island of Astypalea into a "model island for climate-neutral mobility." Welcome to EV paradise. As part of the six-year project, new vehicle and ride-sharing services will be introduced to help reduce traffic and energy will be generated by green power sources such as solar and wind." reports CarBuzz: "The new transport system with digital mobility services will include an all-electric year-round ridesharing service that will replace the island's local bus service. Around 1,000 electric vehicles will replace roughly 1,500 combustion-powered cars as VW starts introducing new electric ID. models like the Volkswagen ID.3 compact and the Volkswagen ID.4 crossover to the market. Commercial vehicles, police cars, emergency vehicles, and public sector fleets will also be electrified. To cater for the increased number of EVs on the island, Volkswagen will install a comprehensive charging infrastructure with around 230 private and several public charging points."   https://carbuzz.com/news/volkswagen-transforms-tropical-island-into-electric-car-paradise   HYUNDAI-KIA OFFICIALLY JOINTS IONITY HIGH POWER CHARGING "The Hyundai Motor Group’s entry into the Ionity fast-charging network is now official. The Korean company through its Hyundai and Kia brands holds a 20 per cent stake in the Europe-wide high power charging network founded by BMW, Ford, Daimler and Volkswagen." says electrive: " It is now clear that the Korean company will also receive 20 per cent of Ionity’s shares as the fifth carmaker in the mix.. We are yet waiting to hear how the partnership may fit into the latest charging service that Hyundai-Kia had launched together with Digital Charging Solutions (DCS) under the labels Charge myHyundai and KiaCharge. Kia will introduce KiaCharge in seven countries this autumn, starting with Italy, Poland and Spain, followed by Austria, France, Germany and Switzerland. UK customers may expect the charging service to come active in the fourth quarter of 2020. Hyundai expects the service to launch in six countries, namely France, Switzerland, Norway, Spain, Italy and the Czech Republic this autumn."   https://www.electrive.com/2020/11/05/hyundai-kia-officially-joints-ionity/   TESLA TO INSTALL ANOTHER GIANT BATTERY IN AUSTRALIA "French renewable energy company Neoen and Tesla will partner to install another one of the world’s largest lithium-ion batteries in Australia.  The contract with the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) will allow Neoen to move to the next phase of its 300 MW/450 MWh Victorian Big Battery in Geelong, which will become one of the world’s largest batteries, at twice the size of the Hornsdale Power Reserve in South Australia." reports CleanTechnica: "The battery will use Tesla’s Megapack technology and AusNet Services will be the network partner, according to Neoen.  Independent analysis showed that for every $1 invested, the battery will deliver more than $2 in benefits to Victorian homes and businesses. Independent reviews show that Neoen’s Hornsdale Power Reserve delivered more than $150 million AUD in savings during its first two years of operation."   https://cleantechnica.com/2020/11/05/tesla-to-install-another-giant-battery-in-australia/   GENERAL MOTORS NOW HIRING FOR ULTIUM CELLS BATTERY PLANT IN OHIO "General Motors just announced that it’s seeking to add 1,100 new team members to the Ultium Cells LLC battery production plant in Lordstown, Ohio. The facility will mass-produce Ultium battery cells for use in General Motors’ upcoming range of all-electric vehicle offerings." says GMAuthority: "Those interested in applying can do so via the Ultium Cells LLC website. The new Ultium Cells production facility is currently under construction on a 158-acre plot of land. When completed, the facility will encompass some 3 million square feet. General Motors says the facility will have an annual capacity of more than 30 gigawatt hours, with room for expansion.General Motors has moved forward in its push to an all-electric future with a variety of announcements and debuts this year, including the unveiling of the Cadillac Lyriq luxury crossover show car in August, and the debut of the all-new GMC Hummer EV pickup truck last month. Both the Lyriq and the Hummer EV will be powered by Ultium Cell battery technology."   https://gmauthority.com/blog/2020/11/general-motors-now-hiring-for-ultium-cells-battery-plant-in-ohio/     You can listen to all 924 previous episodes of this this for free, where you get your podcasts from, plus the blog https://www.evnewsdaily.com/ – remember to subscribe, which means you don’t have to think about downloading the show each day, plus you get it first and free and automatically.   It would mean a lot if you could take 2mins to leave a quick review on whichever platform you download the podcast.   And  if you have an Amazon Echo, download our Alexa Skill, search for EV News Daily and add it as a flash briefing.   Come and say hi on Facebook, LinkedIn or Twitter just search EV News Daily, have a wonderful day, I’ll catch you tomorrow and remember…there’s no such thing as a self-charging hybrid.     PHIL ROBERTS / ELECTRIC FUTURE (PREMIUM PARTNER) BRAD CROSBY (PREMIUM PARTNER) AVID TECHNOLOGY (PREMIUM PARTNER) PORSCHE OF THE VILLAGE CINCINNATI (PREMIUM PARTNER) AUDI CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) VOLVO CARS CINCINNATI EAST (PREMIUM PARTNER) NATIONALCARCHARGING.COM and ALOHACHARGE.COM  (PREMIUM PARTNER) DEREK REILLY FROM THE EV REVIEW IRELAND YOUTUBE CHANNEL (PREMIUM PARTNER) RICHARD AT RSYMONS.CO.UK – THE ELECTRIC VEHICLE SPECIALIST (PREMIUM PARTNER)   DAVID AND LISA ALLEN (PARTNER) OEM AUDIO OF NEW ZEALAND AND EVPOWER.CO.NZ (PARTNER) GARETH HAMER eMOBILITY NORWAY HTTPS://WWW.EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM/  (PARTNER) BOB BOOTHBY – MILLBROOK COTTAGES AND ELOPEMENT WEDDING VENUE (PARTNER) DARIN MCLESKEY FROM DENOVO REAL ESTATE (PARTNER) JUKKA KUKONEN FROM WWW.SHIFT2ELECTRIC.COM RAJEEV NARAYAN (PARTNER)   ALAN ROBSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALAN SHEDD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEX BANAHENE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ALEXANDER FRANK @ https://www.youtube.com/c/alexsuniverse42 ANDERS HOVE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREA JEFFERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ANDREW GREEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASEER KHALID (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ASHLEY HILL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BÅRD FJUKSTAD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRIAN THOMPSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) BRUCE BOHANNAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHARLES HALL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRIS HOPKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CHRISTOPHER BARTH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) COLIN HENNESSY AND CAMBSEV (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG COLES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) CRAIG ROGERS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAMIEN DAVIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVE DEWSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID FINCH (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID MOORE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PARTINGTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DAVID PRESCOTT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) DON MCALLISTER / SCREENCASTSONLINE.COM (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ERU KYEYUNE-NYOMBI (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) FREDRIK ROVIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GENE RUBIN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GILBERTO ROSADO (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) GEOFF LOWE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) HEDLEY WRIGHT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN GRIFFITHS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN SEAR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) IAN (WATTIE) WATKINS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JACK OAKLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JAMES STORR (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JIM MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODICERS) JON AKA BEARDY MCBEARDFACE FROM KENT EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JON MANCHAK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) JUAN GONZALEZ (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEN MORRIS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KEVIN MEYERSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) KYLE MAHAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LARS DAHLAGER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LAURENCE D ALLEN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LEE BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) LUKE CULLEY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARCEL WARD (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARK BOSSERT (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MARTY YOUNG  (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MATT PISCIONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIA OPPELSTRUP (PARTNER) MICHAEL PASTRONE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) MIKE WINTER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NATHAN GORE-BROWN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NEIL E ROBERTS FROM SUSSEX EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NICHOLAS MILLER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) NIGEL MILES (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) OHAD ASTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL RIDINGS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PAUL STEPHENSON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GLASS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETE GORTON (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PETER & DEE ROBERTS FROM OXON EVS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHIL MOUCHET (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) PHILIP TRAUTMAN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RAJ BADWAL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENE KEEMIK (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RENÉ SCHNEIDER (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RICHARD LUPINSKY (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB HERMANS (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) ROB FROM THE RSTHINKS EV CHANNEL ON YOUTUBE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) RUPERT MITCHELL (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) SEIKI PAYNE (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEPHEN PENN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) STEVE JOHN (EXECUTIVE PRODUCER) THOMAS J. Show #646   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Tuesday 19th November 2019. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story to save you time.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   VOLKSWAGEN CLAIMS ID.3 COST 40% LESS TO BUILD THAN E-GOLF "According to Reuters, Volkswagen CEO Herbert Diess told investors this week that the ID.3 costs 40% less to build than the E-Golf. That is an enormous reduction and one of the reasons why Volkswagen says the ID.3 will retail for about the same money as a well equipped Golf Diesel. It is the secret sauce that will allow the company to meet its goal of selling millions of electric cars." so says CleanTechnica: "The ID.3 will start at around €30,000 in Europe. The first edition version with more range and a more powerful motor will go for about €40,000. But Volkswagen has plans for electric cars that will sell for as little as €20,000"   https://cleantechnica.com/2019/11/19/volkswagen-claims-id-3-cost-40-less-to-build-than-e-golf/   VW ID.3 1ST COSTS 50,000 EUROS BEFORE OPTIONS ID.3 1ST - Full Comfort Starting price: less than 40,000 € (less state funding)   ID.3 1ST Plus - The Stylish             Starting price: less than 46,000 € (less state funding)   ID.3 1ST Max - High Tech - All In With its premium equipment and state-of-the-art high-tech features, the ID.3 1 ST Max. The ID.3 is the first model in the latest generation that Volkswagen is putting on the road under its global electric offensive." according to Green Car Congress: "Following on from Zwickau, Dresden now becomes the second assembly plant in Germany for the ID.3. The first vehicles from the MEB family are scheduled to leave the assembly line in Dresden from fall 2020. The plant could possibly also assemble further models from the ID. family at a later point in time.   https://www.volkswagenag.com/en/news/2019/11/the-id-3-to-be-assembled-in-the-glaeserne-manufaktur-in-dresden-.html   TESLA BIG BATTERY ADDS NEW CAPACITY "French renewable energy and storage developer Neoen has confirmed that the so-called Tesla big battery at Hornsdale in South Australia will get a 50 per cent lift in capacity, and add new innovations and services that will help pave the way for the state to reach its goal of “net 100 per cent renewables”." according to reneweconomy.com.au: "the battery – officially known as the Hornsdale Power Reserve – will be the first in Australia to provide digital – or “virtual” – inertia to the grid, an important network service previously only delivered only by synchronous machines (coal, gas and hydro). The addition of hundreds of new Tesla Powerpack batteries – at a cost of $71 million – will add 50MW/64.5MWh capacity to the existing facilities of 100MW/129MWh, lifting its capacity by 50 per cent and reinforcing its ranking as the biggest lithium-ion battery in the world. Neoen noted that in its first full year of operation, the battery saved consumers more than $50 million, and these savings would continue to grow once the new addition was in place in 2020. It also earned a profit of $22 million in its first full year of operations."   https://reneweconomy.com.au/tesla-big-battery-adds-new-capacity-and-services-on-march-to-100pct-renewables-grid-55121/   ZF DEVELOPS ELECTRIC DRIVE FOR SAILING YACHTS "ZF has developed an electric drive system for sailing yachts. For this purpose, the German supplier is installing an electric motor with a maximum output of 125 kW, which is connected to ZF’s steerable Steerable Pod Propulsion System (SPP)." writes electrive: "With the electric auxiliary drive instead of a diesel engine, the sailing yacht can travel emission- and noise-free when taking off and mooring – and thus also call at ports that remain closed to yachts with conventional drive due to environmental regulations."   https://www.electrive.com/2019/11/19/zf-develops-electric-drive-for-sailing-yachts/   TORQEEDO RELEASES NEW PRODUCTS AND ACHIEVES MAJOR MILESTONES Torqeedo will celebrate its 15th year of technology innovations and deliver its 100,000th electric drive for the worldwide marine industry in the coming year. Torqeedo offers a broad product line of outboards, inboards and saildrives ranging from 0.5 to 100 kW with high-capacity lithium batteries and power-management systems. Torqeedo will launch two new motor models in 2020: a new professional-grade Ultralight motor for serious kayak anglers, and a 20-hp equivalent Cruise 10.0 T outboard with tiller steering. Also coming in 2020 are new fast chargers and new solar charge controller for the Power 48-5000 series of lithium batteries. Torqeedo’s high-power Deep Blue system is getting important improvements with quieter-than-ever outboards and seamless integration of joysticks, third-party throttles and wireless controls.   https://www.torqeedo.com/en/news-and-press/blog/blog-2019-11-18.html   BUGATTI CONSIDERING ELECTRIC FOUR-SEATER AS SECOND MODEL "Bugatti's long-rumored additional model could run on electricity rather than gasoline, according to a recent report. The company is tentatively planning a downward expansion without diluting its image." reports AutoBlog: "The company isn't interested in chasing volume with an alternative to the Volkswagen GTI. Instead, Bloomberg wrote it's envisioning an electric four-seater priced between 500,000 and one million euros, sums that represent about $555,000 and $1.1 million, respectively. Bugatti CEO Stephan Winkelmann told the publication that convincing parent company Volkswagen to fund the model requires a "hard fight," however."   https://www.autoblog.com/2019/11/19/bugatti-electric-four-seater-report   PORSCHE TAYCAN DELIVERIES ARE DELAYED "A recent post on the Facebook Porsche Taycan Group reveals that the Taycan is now running on an 8- to 10-week delivery delay. A Norwegian reservation holder received an email from the German automaker explaining the situation." says Steven Loveday at InsideEVs: "We've seen multiple EV launches that have proven similar issues. The Audi e-tron has fallen behind numerous times and continues to experience its share of delays. Jaguar has had comparable issues with the I-Pace."   https://insideevs.com/news/383171/porsche-taycan-delivery-delay/   QUESTION OF THE WEEK The MYEV.com Question Of The Week…   "If you were marketing a for an new EV brand (or Tesla) how would you do it?”     I want to say a heartfelt thank you to the 251 patrons of this podcast whose generosity means I get to keep making this show, which aims to entertain and inform thousands of listeners every day about a brighter future. Jon Moore reporting! This week we look at the Tesla battery in South Australia, one version of vermicomposting and two examples of intensive, organic veggie production. So to the Tesla Battery! The post entitled: Explainer: what can Tesla’s giant South Australian battery achieve? From the blog Random Thoughts explains: It was announced this past week that Tesla has won a tender to set up a 100 megaWatt battery in conjunction with the Hornsdale wind farm. A little background is necessary. Back in September 2016 a huge storm rolled across South Australia. A gas fired electricity generator was closed down by it operators on the ground that electricity spot prices were likely to be too low that day to justify running the plant. As the storm rolled in some wind farms were powered down and some high tension power lines were ripped out of the ground. Widespread blackouts resulted. For some reason, some members of the farther right of politics in this country have a problem with wind power in particular and renewables in general. So the knee jerk reaction was to blame the wind farms even when transmission lines were ripped out of the ground. So electricity supply is political. Will the new Tesla battery system help? Probably not a great deal. Quote: The project will incorporate a 100MW peak output battery with 129 megawatt hours of storage alongside Neoen’s Hornsdale windfarm, near Jamestown. When fully charged, we estimate that this will be enough to power 8,000 homes for one full day, or more than 20,000 houses for a few hours at grid failure, but this is not the complete picture. The battery will support grid stability, rather than simply power homes on its own. It’s the first step towards a future in which renewable energy and storage work together. End Quote It is the grid stability and the example set which is the greatest outcome of this project. Once the idea of batteries set within the grid becomes established, price signals will complete the job. Now we don’t just need electric batteries. Batteries are nothing but a chemical form of storage. The authors of the post are themselves working on a different form of energy storage:  off-river pumped hydro energy storage. This uses the mature technology of the hydro industry to storage renewable energy in the form of potential energy rather than chemical. By using renewable electricity to pump water from say the bottom of a mine to a reservoir at ground level, the energy is held and then released back through the system to turn the potential energy into electric by running the pumps “backwards” and allowing the water to pool at the bottom of the mine again. The storage form is somewhat immaterial, it is the storage to stabilise the grid which is most important. Creative minds are being allied to this matter and the future look bright. There is even some argument that microgrids rather than nation wide grids are a better solution. Localisation and interconnection of generating nodes require less infrastructure and therefore less loss of power moving electricity from say a hydro scheme in one state to consumers in another. Indeed the local seems to be answer to many of the issues we face today. I have argued elsewhere in the blog for localised food production in a piece entitled: In Defense of A Modern Yeomanry – Small mixed farms as the answer. Food, electricity, politics all better serve the citizenry if localised. In that spirit we have a blog post from EcoBLOGic entitled: Vermicomposting: Tips from First Timers. Dealing with “waste” at a local level retains nutrients where they can be reapplied to local food growing systems. Traditional composting can be intimidating and time consuming. Vermicomposting, using compost worms to process organic matter is an alternative with a quicker turn around. It is my preferred method. Long Quote: In the I Love A Clean San Diego office, we have multiple team members who collect food waste to be brought back to their composting bins. This past June, Moriah and Lauren made their own vermicomposting bins and began their composting journeys! With a few simple tools, we enjoyed time in the sun making the bins and learning all the details of vermicomposting! Both Moriah and Lauren have been using their vermicomposting bins about a month now. With that experience under their belt, we checked back in to see how the process has been going. Lauren explained, “I have to say it’s intimidating to have another thing to take care of in my household, but the simplicity and beauty of this natural process are what astonishes me the most, day after day.” Moriah shared how having Emily – our Education Manager and composting expert – in our office as a resource impacted her experience: “Having Emily as a resource has been super helpful. She has even responded to Snapchats I’ve sent to her of the bin to let me know if it looks like it is healthy and thriving. Emily’s help and the resources in our office have led to a pretty healthy bin. The worms are breeding and eating everything much quicker than I expected!” End quote. The point being, it is possible to go from zero to an effective system quickly. The vermicompost is wonderful stuff, I think of it as rocket fuel for plants. Have a read of the piece for more info, it is well worth it. To continue this local theme we have two video posts: From Permieflix: 1.5 Acres of High Intensity, No-Till Vegetable Production – Neversink Farm and from growingarden: Rural New Zealand Quarter Acre Permaculture Farm/Market Garden. The principles explored in these videos are Permacultural in nature. Things like “Waste is simply a resource in the wrong place.” and “Ensure every part of the system provides at least two outcomes.” The income potential is quite staggering. As is the production without large investment in fossil fueled machinery. The systems basically run themselves, once set up and humans maintain the system, collecting useful surpluses. Both videos run 20 minutes plus. Both would fit nicely with the idea I suggested in “In defense of Yeomanry.” Turning golf courses into market gardens. Even if we don’t liberate these landscapes just yet, the principles discussed in the videos are applicable to suburban backyards, suburban front yards and even to balconies in high rise apartments. On that note I’m putting together a small eBook: The one Square Metre Garden - Year round veggies from almost no space. I’ll keep you posted when that comes out! So we can live well, we can live healthily and we can did it with green energy if we put our minds to it. And on that happy note we will end this week’s episode. If you’ve liked what you heard, please tell everyone you know any way you can! I’d also really appreciate a review on iTunes. This may or may not help others to find us but it gives this podcaster an enormous thrill! Thanks in advance!
