Huge moves at the front part of the interest rate curve. Bills did something we haven't seen since April. Meanwhile, forward rates reacted to Friday's payroll numbers with crisis-level hedging and then held those prices today. Why? Simple: payrolls were the last of it. Resilience After Trauma – Featuring Brandi CoxIn this powerful episode of Linda's Corner: Inspiration for a Better Life, we sit down with Brandi Cox—successful business owner, expert in healing, growth, and grief, and author of In Better Hands—to discuss overcoming trauma, breaking generational patterns, and reclaiming personal power. What You'll Learn in This Episode:
Ah, adulthood—the never-ending escape room with no clues, no key, and someone yelling “Have you tried turning it off and on again?” in the background. In this season finale of All the Feelings: Adulting, Pete and Tommy break down one of the biggest lies we've ever told ourselves: that one day, magically, we would become Real Adults™. Spoiler: we do not. As far as our research has demonstrated, no one does. We're all still wondering how to reheat pizza without judgment. This week, we confront the myth of generational superiority, from Gen X's latchkey nihilism to Gen Z's emotionally stoic eye contact, and the deep, soul-sucking silence of the millennial pause. Why do Boomers look so confident while setting their routers on fire? Why does Gen Alpha speak only in sound effects? Why are we, Gen X, the most stressed-out and financially unprepared sandwich in the buffet line of existence? So it's anecdotes, slang trivia, a breakdown of eye-contact etiquette, and a dash of Lord of the Flies (plus its real-life, wholesome Tongan counterpoint) this week as we ask the central question: what if nobody knows what they're doing and that's… actually the point? Whether you're prepping your taxes or debating whether mozzarella sticks count as a coping mechanism (they do), we invite you to put down the measuring stick and pick up that diploma, because you're already here—and you're already doing it.Congratulations. You're an adult. Now go cancel your trial of AMC+ before it renews.
In this episode, I explain cortisol and science-based protocols for properly setting your cortisol rhythm, which can significantly increase your daytime energy, focus, mood, and stress resilience, while also improving your sleep quality. Most people mistakenly think cortisol is bad, and many assume their levels are too high, when in fact many health and performance challenges simply stem from a disrupted cortisol rhythm. Getting your cortisol rhythm right can be transformative for your health and performance. I outline behavioral, nutritional, and supplement-based strategies to raise or lower your cortisol levels at the appropriate times of day and night. I also provide specific protocols for overcoming burnout. If you're dealing with stress, low energy, hormone or sleep challenges—or simply want to optimize these for the sake of your physical and mental health and performance—this episode offers science-backed protocols to help. Ever wondered why some adults struggle with anxiety, depression, or feeling overwhelmed even in safe situations? The answer might trace back to something as common as being left to cry it out as a baby. In this mini episode, Dr. Aimie dives deep into the biology behind how early childhood experiences, including seemingly normal parenting practices, can program our immune cells for danger and create lasting brain inflammation, explaining the long-term effects of crying it out on mental health. Responding to a listener's question about brain inflammation in babies, Dr. Aimie reveals what's actually happening inside tiny brains when they're left to cry it out, and how this creates the anxiety and depression we see later in life. You'll discover how your body's own biology might be perpetuating nervous system dysregulation from experiences you don't even remember. In this episode, you'll learn: How stress in early childhood creates “primed” microglia in the brain Why these primed immune cells can trigger brain inflammation, anxiety, and depression later in life The difference between stress and trauma (and why babies are especially vulnerable) Why common experiences like birth trauma, NICU stays, and “crying it out” can rewire your stress response for life The link between microglia activation, brain fog, decision fatigue, and emotional overwhelm Practical steps for healing brain inflammation from childhood trauma and calming your nervous system Whether you're working on your own healing or helping others who still feel stuck after therapy, this episode will help you understand why your body can still feel anxious and overwhelmed even when you know you're safe. Plus get simple tools to help your brain's immune system begin to heal!

In Part 2 of Nichole Henson's powerful story, we find out what happened after the abuse. Because freedom isn't always instant—and healing? It's a battlefield. Nichole opens up about her journey as a licensed therapist, all while secretly spiraling. Self-harm. Rage. Hearing voices that hated her husband, her child, her parents—and God. For years, she believed those voices were just a broken part of her. But the truth? It was deeper than mental illness. It was demonic. She couldn't get her thoughts under control because they weren't hers. She had unknowingly partnered with torment—and deliverance was the only way out. Sis, this is not just another “look what God did” story. It's raw. It's intense. And it's a wake-up call for every woman battling silently behind a smile. If you've ever felt like your mind was at war, like your faith and your feelings were pulling you in opposite directions, or like freedom was for everyone but you—this episode is your reminder that God isn't finished with you yet.

Is Big Pharma really healing us — or profiting from keeping us sick? NYT best-selling author Johann Hari (Stolen Focus, Lost Connections, Chasing the Scream, Magic Pill) returns with a powerful breakdown of the real causes of depression, anxiety, and the global attention crisis. Johann Hari reveals why only 2 of the 9 causes of depression are biological, exposing how Big Pharma, social media addiction, and modern lifestyle traps are fueling mental health issues. He dives into the dark rise of GLP-1 drugs (like Ozempic) and society's toxic beauty obsession, while uncovering the overlooked role of sleep, community, and social connection in healing. Hari shares his personal experience with antidepressants, and explores how childhood shame and trauma drive addiction, weight gain, and despair. You'll learn why even pets are being diagnosed with ADHD, what Silicon Valley insiders confessed about attention-hacking technology, and how our loss of focus is sabotaging relationships, careers, and democracy itself. Here's how we figure it: if you appear on our show (the most popular podcast in the world) (look that up) (don't), you automatically become a celebrity. We have listeners all over this planet at least. That makes hardware store assistant manager Winter Burnett a celebrity. During our last Max Fun Drive, we set a stretch goal for new members and said if we hit that goal, one of you Sleepyheads could be the guest celebrity on the show. We hit it and received several excellent pitches. Winter's concept: there are two laundromats in her town of Morris, IL (1.5 hours from Chicago, depending on traffic) so let's look at the similarities and differences between Wash & Dry and Soaps. What kind of machines are there? What's the TV situation? And which one has an adjoining hot dog place that also serves something called pizza puffs? Full Text of ReadingsWednesday of the Seventeenth Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 403The Saint of the day is Blessed Solanus CaseyBlessed Solanus Casey's Story Barney Casey became one of Detroit's best-known priests even though he was not allowed to preach formally or to hear confessions! Barney came from a large family in Oak Grove, Wisconsin. At the age of 21, and after he had worked as a logger, a hospital orderly, a streetcar operator, and a prison guard, he entered St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee—where he found the studies difficult. He left there, and in 1896, joined the Capuchins in Detroit, taking the name Solanus. His studies for the priesthood were again arduous. On July 24, 1904, Solanus was ordained, but because his knowledge of theology was judged to be weak, he was not given permission to hear confessions or to preach. A Franciscan Capuchin who knew him well said this annoying restriction “brought forth in him a greatness and a holiness that might never have been realized in any other way.” During his 14 years as porter and sacristan in Yonkers, New York, the people there recognized Solanus as a fine speaker. James Derum, his biographer writes, “For, though he was forbidden to deliver doctrinal sermons, he could give inspirational talks, or feverinos, as the Capuchins termed them.” His spiritual fire deeply impressed his listeners. Father Solanus served at parishes in Manhattan and Harlem before returning to Detroit, where he was porter and sacristan for 20 years at St. Bonaventure Monastery. Every Wednesday afternoon he conducted well-attended services for the sick. A co-worker estimates that on the average day 150 to 200 people came to see Father Solanus in the front office. Most of them came to receive his blessing; 40 to 50 came for consultation. Many people considered him instrumental in cures and other blessings they received. Father Solanus' sense of God's providence inspired many of his visitors. “Blessed be God in all his designs” was one of his favorite expressions. The many friends of Father Solanus helped the Capuchins begin a soup kitchen during the Depression. Capuchins are still feeding the hungry there today. In failing health, Solanus was transferred to the Capuchin novitiate in Huntington, Indiana, in 1946, where he lived for ten years until needing to be hospitalized in Detroit. Father Solanus died on July 31, 1957. An estimated 20,000 people passed by his coffin before his burial in St. Bonaventure Church in Detroit. At the funeral Mass, the provincial Father Gerald said: “His was a life of service and love for people like me and you. When he was not himself sick, he nevertheless suffered with and for you that were sick. When he was not physically hungry, he hungered with people like you. He had a divine love for people. He loved people for what he could do for them—and for God, through them.” In 1960, a Father Solanus Guild was formed in Detroit to aid Capuchin seminarians. By 1967, the guild had 5,000 members—many of them grateful recipients of his practical advice and his comforting assurance that God would not abandon them in their trials. Solanus Casey was declared Venerable in 1995, and beatified on November 18, 2017. Reflection His biographer James Patrick Derum writes that eventually Father Solanus was weary from bearing the burdens of the people who visited him. “Long since, he had come to know the Christ-taught truth that pure love of God and one's fellowmen as children of God are in the final event all that matter. Living this truth ardently and continuously had made him, spiritually, a free man—free from slavery to passions, from self-seeking, from self-indulgence, from self-pity—free to serve wholly both God and man” (The Porter of St. Bonaventure's, page 199). If you're ready to challenge the myths of mental health, regain your focus, and take back control of your mind, don't miss this eye-opening conversation with Johann Hari. The supply glut was never canceled. Almost everyone and every part of the oil market remains convinced it is happening, the potential weighing on prices and movements even if occasionally geopolitics gains control over short run periods. Important macro updates from Ireland to India further prove why the glut isn't being led by global supply. And if it wasn't enough sharp declines in US usage help clear it up even more. Shut down is your nervous system's most protective response. If you've ever felt heavy, numb, and completely disconnected from life—like you're moving through a thick fog with no energy or motivation—you've likely experienced a nervous system state called "shutdown." This episode offers a deeply compassionate guide to understanding this protective state and provides a roadmap of gentle, micro-steps to help you slowly and safely reconnect with yourself and the world.*This episode serves as Part 4 in our "Different States Series"In this episode, you'll learn:Why shutdown happens, from chronic burnout and overwhelm to unresolved grief and past trauma. How to understand shutdown from a "parts work" perspective, seeing it as a protector trying to keep you from feeling more pain.A toolkit of gentle, sensory-based practices to slowly reawaken your system without causing more stress. Why patience is one of the most crucial tools when working with this state.3 Takeaways:Shutdown is protection, not pathology.Gentle presence is more powerful than forced productivity. In shutdown, your system needs safety and patience, not more pressure. Address the overwhelm, not just the symptoms. If shutdown is a pattern, it's often telling you something important about your life circumstances, past experiences, or internal dynamics.Tools/Resources for shut down:Gentle Sensation & Warmth: Hold a warm mug of tea or a heating pad, wrap yourself in a soft blanket, feel the texture of a piece of fabric, feel your feet on the floor.Gentle Breath & Sound: Make soft humming sounds or quiet "ahh" or "ohh" sounds that you can feel vibrating in your chest, listen to slow and comforting music or nature sounds.Orienting & Vision Resets: Slowly look around the room, gently turn your head from side to side, let your gaze soften and rest on something neutral or comforting.Micro-Movement: Wiggle your fingers and toes, gently roll your shoulders or circle your wrists, sway slowly while seated, stand near a window for a moment.Symbolic or Actual Connection: Text a safe person (no conversation needed), pet an animal or tend to a plant, look at a photo of someone you love, watch a familiar and comforting show.Voice & Self-Talk: Whisper comforting phrases to yourself like, "I'm right here," or "It's okay to rest," or "You matter to me."Parts Work: Get curious about the part of you that has gone offline. Offer it compassion and reassurance without pressure, saying things like, "Thank you for protecting me from pain. Right now, it's safe to feel just a little bit."—Looking for more personalized support?Book a FREE discovery call for RESTORE, our 1:1 anxiety & depression coaching program (HSA/FSA eligible & includes comprehensive bloodwork)Join me inside Regulated Living, a mental health membership and nervous system healing space (sliding scale pricing available)Order my book, Healing Through the Vagus Nerve today!*Want me to talk about something specific on the podcast? It's no secret in 2025 that stronger muscles lead to longer life. If you're a woman in perimenopause, postmenopause or anything in between, this is no surprise to you. I think we are very aware of it, but let's unpack how weight lifting treats and prevents chronic diseases. Women, at any age, need stronger muscles for a longer life. Not just for aesthetics, but for functionality and independence. My Guest: A longtime Vanity Fair contributing editor, Michael Joseph Gross has published investigative reporting, essays, and books about culture, technology, politics, religion, and business. He was raised in rural Illinois and lives in New York City. Questions We Answer in This Episode: [00:04:31] How did this become a topic of interest to you personally? [00:07:54] Let's connect strength training to prevention and treatment of illnesses often associated - even accepted - with aging? [00:20:17] Weight training has been shown to decrease anxiety and to have positive effects on risk of Alzheimer's or type 3 diabetes, can you explain for the listeners? [00:26:31] How has the work of Dr. Maria Fiatarone Singh showed that weight training may reduce the risk of Alzheimer's? [00:33:13] Why is lifting heavy important? Do you worry that leading with “lift heavy” intimidates women? What did you uncover as evidence that it is never too late to start progressive strength training? Why Strength Training? Strength training changes more than just your body—it's internal too. It's not about looking stronger—it's about being stronger. Adolescence and menopause are both times when women feel their bodies are changing without their consent. Strength training gives back a sense of control, capability, and power. Stronger Muscles Longer Life At Any Age Strong Youth: Peak bone mass forms in youth—strength training in adolescence builds lifelong health. A 10% increase in bone mass reduces future fracture risk by more than 50%. Strong in Midlife: Dr. Maria Fiatarone Singh, geriatrician and professor in Sydney, Australia, found that even 90+ year-olds can gain muscle mass with high-intensity training. Weight training can treat and prevent nearly all chronic diseases. Stronger Muscles Through Weight Lifting Treats and Prevents These Diseases: Type 2 Diabetes Heart Disease Osteoporosis Depression and Anxiety Insomnia Osteoarthritis Frailty Dementia & Alzheimer's Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Fall Risk Periodization & Smart Strength Training: Periodization: Cycles of high effort, deloading, and rest. Women (especially Type A) tend to push too hard—leading to burnout or injury. Strength training should energize you, not exhaust you. Part of lifting heavy is lifting light. The goal: Live better, not just lift more. Ancient Greek Lesson: The Right Time to Train Greek word kairos = the “opportune moment” for action. Good training is about doing the right thing at the right time. Don't blindly follow a plan. Train for your body today. The truth is, early parenting choices, like sleep training and letting babies cry it out, can affect how their brain and body develop for years to come. Many well-meaning parents follow these popular methods, only to see their kids later struggle with anxiety, depression, or behavioral issues that seem to come out of nowhere. That's because early attachment and nervous system development shape a child's mental health in ways we don't always see. Everything that happens in the first years of life, from how you respond to your baby's cries to how connected they feel, helps build their brain, nervous system, and their ability to feel safe and calm. Even common parenting habits can create hidden stress, making it harder for children to grow into resilient, emotionally healthy adults. In this episode, Dr. Darcia Narvaez joins Dr. Aimie to talk about what babies really need for healthy brain development, emotional safety, and attachment. You'll also learn how parents and practitioners can begin to repair early childhood trauma and help heal the nervous system, no matter the age. You'll hear about: How sleep training and crying it out disrupt a baby's developing nervous system The link between early separations and anxiety, depression, and attachment issues later in life How your own childhood experiences influence your health, relationships, and parenting style Practical ways to rebuild connection and help your child's nervous system heal Why the vagus nerve is essential for emotional regulation in children How common newborn medical procedures can cause lasting trauma Why children need love and connection, not constant performance for approval Whether you're a practitioner wanting to understand how early attachment trauma affects adult clients, or a parent looking for nervous system regulation techniques and coregulation strategies to support your child, this episode offers science-backed insights and practical tools you can use right away. Dr. Darcia Narvaez is a Professor of Psychology Emerita at the University of Notre Dame. Death! That thing we pretend we'll deal with later, even though “later” is very much someone else's problem. This week, Pete and Tommy dive headfirst into the gloriously unsexy topic of postmortem administration. Not grief. Not funeral playlists. The actual hellscape of what happens when you suddenly have to explain to Costco that your dad no longer needs a membership because, well, he's gone to the big food court in the sky.In part one, Tommy reflects on “stuff”—the knickknacks, photos, and inexplicable oven mitt collections we leave behind. He shares his strategies for helping friends confront the emotional paralysis of legacy clutter, including the deeply rational rule: no landscapes unless they're breathtaking, and no tuna casserole recipes unless they're really different. In part two, Pete takes us on a bureaucratic rollercoaster through the modern administrative afterlife: joint credit cards that implode, death certificates that cost a fortune, and the absolutely vital necessity of a password manager for your aging parents (seriously, do this now). He makes the case for creating a “digital death file,” so your loved ones don't have to hack into your Apple account to cancel Hulu while you're ghostbathing.Plus: a brief but oddly moving tribute to 17th-century haberdasher John Graunt, who basically invented epidemiology by accident while counting plague victims and also possibly ribbons. You'll laugh. You'll cry. You'll immediately back up your two-factor authentication.
