Austrian filmmaker Jessica Hausner has one of the most immediately recognizable signatures as an auteur. Her films are known as much for their formal austerity as for their daring subject matter; they are films that – to use her phrase – “do not shout so loudly”. Those are also the kinds of films that Hausner, as Jury President at the 77ᵗʰ Locarno Film Festival, did not want to overlook in favor of louder, splashier titles. When she met her fellow jurors for the first time, Hausner stressed that it was important to consider films whose emotional power develops inside the viewer more slowly, accruing over time. We sat down with Hausner for a conversation on Locarno Meets to delve into her process in making films, her taste in cinema, the more than 30 takes it often takes to get a scene right, and her philosophy as president of a festival jury.

Jednocześnie monopol dużych sieci handlowych wymusza na wydawcach niskie ceny książek, co skutkuje bankructwem małych księgarń i spadkiem jakości publikacji. Czy kultura powinna być pozostawiona regułom gry rynkowej czy też wymaga interwencji państwa? Odpowiedzi na postawione we wstępie pytanie poszukiwali goście debaty, która odbyła się w ramach XX Festiwalu Nauki : ekonomista prof. Jerzy Hausner i wydawczyni książek Beata Stasińska. Dyskusję poprowadził dr hab. Michał Krawczyk. Pierwsza część debaty była poświęcona receptom na wzrost czytelnictwa wśród Polaków. Uczestnicy dyskusji zgodnie przyznali, że kluczową rolę w tym względzie powinny mieć biblioteki, które wymagają publicznego doinwestowania. Beata Stasińska mówiła, że powinny one przyciągać organizowanymi przez siebie wydarzeniami i nowościami księgarskimi. Zaznaczyła jednocześnie, że efekty wprowadzonych zmian staną się odczuwalne dopiero po latach. Jerzy Hausner podkreślił, że aby proces ten był skuteczny, publiczne agendy go wdrażające powinny zachować ciągłość i niezależność od czynników politycznych. Kulturotwórczą rolę bibliotek mogłyby też pełnić małe księgarnie. Są jednak wypierane przez duże sieci handlowe, z którymi nie są w stanie rywalizować cenowo. Jedną z propozycji rozwiązania tego problemu jest wprowadzenie stałych cen na książki. Oboje dyskutanci nie poparli tego pomysłu. Beata Stasińska tłumaczyła, że cena za egzemplarz to tylko jeden z elementów gry rynkowej. Dochodzą do niego też koszty dystrybucji, magazynowania czy marketingu w miejscu sprzedaży. Oboje uczestnicy debaty byli natomiast zgodni, że małe księgarnie powinny być publicznie dotowane. Jerzy Hausner dodał, że dodatkowe opodatkowanie zysków sieci handlowych uczyniłoby je współuczestnikami procesu wydawniczego (ekonomista odwołał się do pojęcia „circular economy”). Podczas dyskusji poruszony został też problem piractwa w internecie. Jerzy Hausner zwrócił uwagę, że własność prywatna może mieć też funkcje publiczne. Odniósł się tu do przykładu przestrzeni miejskiej. Podkreślił w tym kontekście rolę obecnego już w prawie autorskich pojęcia „dopuszczalnego użytku”. Beata Stasińska zauważyła, że kradzież jest najprostszą formą dotarcia do tekstu. El líder nazi Adolf Eichmann, unos de los mayores organizadores del Holocausto, fue capturado en Argentina por el Servicio de Seguridad de Israel el 23 de mayo de 1960. Fue llevado a Jerusalén para ser juzgado y el 25 de febrero de 1961, Binyamin Halevi presidente del Tribunal de Distrito de Jerusalén, informó al fiscal general de Israel, Gideon Hausner, y al abogado adjunto de Eichmann, que el juicio comenzaría el 11 de abril. El juicio contó con la participación de más de 100 testimonios de victimas, y al ser trasmitido por televisión muchos países conocieron las atrocidades del Holocausto. Para el 11 de diciembre un panel de tres jueces dictó el primero de quince veredictos de culpabilidad por asesinato y crímenes contra el pueblo judío, crímenes de guerra y crímenes contra la humanidad. Dos días después, Hausner solicitó la pena de muerte para Eichmann. El impacto del juicio en la sociedad israelí fue significativo porque creó una nueva apertura en el país hacia los sobrevivientes del Holocausto y sus experiencias. Eichmann fue la primera y única persona en la historia de Israel que recibió la pena de muerte y en consecuencia fue ahorcado el 31 de mayo de 1962.

This week, Stacey is joined by Renee Phillips to discuss the pros and cons of transitioning to a continuous manufacturing system. Batch production is time-consuming yet remains a popular and time-tested method used in the pharma industry today - but some industry leaders, along with the FDA, have taken steps toward or are now contemplating a shift to continuous manufacturing. This means all stages of drug production run through to the final product, without a stop during its production, thus shut down of equipment between “batches” is required, which eliminates downtime. Schriftstellerin #diepodcastin zu Männernormen: Isabel Rohner & Regula Stämpfli über das Patriarchat der Dinge, Amnesie punkto Frauengeschichte, Misogynie, Indiana Jones, die Jahrhundertkünstlerin Xenia Hausner sowie die Kraft, sich durchzukämpfen und herauf zu arbeiten.laStaempfli analysiert fulminant den "Feminismus ohne Eigenschaften" am Beispiel zweier neuer Sachbücher zum Feminismus. Sie missachtet die Namen der Autorinnen, weil diese dieselbe Taktik gegenüber Frauen anwenden. Die neuen Bücher klingen so als wären sie von Frauen, die erst grad entdeckt haben, dass es Feminismus gibt und sie die Ersten wären, das Patriarchat mit ein paar Popgedanken abzuschaffen. Das. Ist. Patriarchat. PUR. Die Männer als Norm. Es würde kein Soziologe und Verlag es wagen, Bücher ohne Niklas Luhmann, Max Weber und Karl Marx auf den deutschsprachigen Markt zu werfen. Doch da es ja nur um Frauen geht, meinen auch die Frauen, es wäre kein Weiterdenken notwendig: Sie banalisieren einen jahrhundertealten Feminismus-Diskurs und paken diesen in mundgerechte Häppchen. Regula Stämpfli: "Kein Wunder bleiben die Frauen nicht nur völlig unterdrückt, sondern sie werden im Moment in Österreich vielfach ermordet. Entsorgt. Weil auch die Frauen sich Frauen und Frauenthemen bedienen als wären sie nur dazu da, die eigene Karriere zu puschen. Es geht um knallharte Ausbeutung. Es ist ein Feminismus ohne Eigenschaften." Die Rohnerin bringt eine messerscharfe Analyse zu einem aktuellen Beispiel aus der Twitterwelt. Da macht der großartige und allen zum Folgen empfohlene Kanal @frauenvondamals auf Williamina Fleming aufmerksam: Eine Pionierin der Sternenkunde, die ihren Weg zur Abteilungsleiterin im 19. Jahrhundert als Hausangestellte begann. Der Tweet verwendete dazu den Ausdruck "sich hoch arbeiten", was bei einer Leserin zur Nachfrage führte, ob das nicht abwertend sei, da es mit "sich hoch schlafen" assoziiert werden könnte. Die Rohnerin ist der Meinung: Nein! Bei Männern ist "sich hoch arbeiten" ein völlig normaler Ausdruck, wenn es um den sozialen Aufstieg geht oder ums Karrieremachen. Einmal googeln genügt: Das Netz ist voll mit Hinweisen darauf, dass sich bspw. Markus Söder oder Jens Spahn hochgearbeitet hätten - ohne jede sexuelle Konnotation! Warum also assoziieren wir das bei Frauen so sexistisch? Damit - der Meinung ist die Rohnerin - werten wir selber Frauen ab. Die Rohnerin und laStaempfli diskutieren heftig. Dann fährt die Rohnerin mit dem Wiedergucken der Trilogie "Indiana Jones" weiter: Als Kind liebte sie die Serie und ist heute über den Sexismus, ja die frauenverachtende Gehirnwäsche dieser Filme echt schockiert: In der "Indiana Jones"-Trilogie darf pro Film nur je eine Frau überhaupt sprechen - und muss jeweils von allen Männern verteidigt werden werden. Der Frauenverachtung pur ist der zweite Teil: Ein sechsjähriger Junge wird cleverer als die kreischende Blondine dargestellt. Dies war übrigens schon in den 1980er Jahren ein Thema, siehe https://www.csmonitor.com/1984/0531/053116.html Xenia Hausners Ausstellung in der Albertina in WIEN ist ein MUSS und ein Genuss: Die Frauen springen einen an und mit ihnen im Herzen und in den Augen und mit ihren ambivalenten Geschichten ermöglichen sie uns allen, die Welt zu verändern. Xenia Hauser setzt ihre Figuren zueinander in Beziehung. Um welche Beziehung es sich handelt, das lässt die Künstlerin offen. Das Bild "Kopfschuss" versinnbildlicht nicht nur unsere Folge, sondern Xenia Hausners grosse Interpretation des "Ich schaue mich zu Tode". Eine weitere Episode von unserer Forschungsreise durch die Fußball-Welt: Wir wagen einen Spagat: vom Champions League Aspiranten BVB zum Mittelklasse-Zweitligisten Jahn Regensburg. Und dort spricht Colin mit dem Vorstand Marketing Philipp Hausner. Nach einem Einblick in seinen persönlichen Werdegang berichtet Philipp uns von dem extrem herausfordernden Start beim Jahn und dem persönlichen Grund, warum er diese Herausforderung überhaupt annahm. Er berichtet von der wichtigen Bestandsaufnahme zu Beginn, bei der deutlich wurde, dass der Club zentrale, strategische Elemente braucht, um zu starten. Zudem berichtet er Euch von der Geschichte des Clubs. Interessant ist aber dabei, dass Philipp mit seinem Team einen anderen Weg als Dennis beim BVB ging, was den Umgang mit der Historie und der bestehenden Identität angeht. Philipp stellt uns dann die Vision des Jahn vor und beschreibt, welche Rolle die Funktion des Fußball in dieser Vision einnimmt. So viel können wir verraten: Es ist keine Vision aus Selbstzweck. Konsequenz der Vision ist dann der hochspezifische Claim, den Philipp uns vorstellt. Er erzählt uns, welche Fehler sie aber auch im Umgang mit dem Claim gemacht haben. In dem Zuge sprechen wir dann auch das Allzeit-Thema Kommerz im Fußball an und wie das Philipp und sein Team herausfordert und welche Maßnahmen sie implementieren. Dann wollte ich wissen, was denn für die Umsetzung nach innen und außen gemacht wurde. Zentral für den Erfolg ist, dass das Thema in wirkich alle Facetten gespielt wird, was z.B. die Spielphilosophie oder auch die Spielerauswahl angeht. Nach der Markendusche vom BVB wollen wir natürlich wissen, ob es auch eine Jahn-Markendusche gibt und dort erzählt Philipp von einer durchaus vereinsinternen Anekdote. Natürlich sprechen wir über Corona und Fußball und Philipp erzählt, wie die eigene Markendefinition während Corona geholfen hat, den Verein durch die Krise zu manövrieren. Am Ende geht es um den langfristigen Plan und unser Gast gibt zu Protokoll, dass es noch einiges zu holen gibt. Zum Ende fordert Colin Philipp nochmal heraus, ob denn eine negative Entwicklung wie bei 1860 München passieren kann – nämlich alle Markenziele über den Haufen zu werfen wegen des Erfolgs. Am Ende pariert er noch die Frage von Simon Böhnlein und hinterlässt natürlich auch eine für den nächsten Gast.

Zdaniem profesora, działanie rządu w dobie koronawirusa jest bardzo chaotyczne. Jego zdaniem decyzje o otwieraniu lub zamykaniu kolejnych sfer naszego życia są podejmowane bez większej strategii, co przynosi straty.

Snösätra industriområde har sedan 2014 blivit ett centrum för graffittikonstnärer, med besökare från hela Europa. Men nu ska en stor del av området rivas för att kunna saneras och bli en del av ett närliggande naturreservat något som mött kritik från konstnärer. Andrew seems to have caught a touch of the plague this week and his voice sounds like he spent the whole day screaming. The review itself is all his, but you’ll be hearing my voice instead of his raw scratchy one. Anyway, today’s movie is about a nefarious plant and if I was going to watch a movie about plant life, it would be something more like LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS or the real horror of 2018’s ANNIHILATION (Episode #400), both of which are streaming now on Amazon Prime. Today’s movie is LITTLE JOE, the 2019 film from Magnolia Pictures, written by Jessica Hausner and Geraldine Bajard, and directed by Hausner. LITTLE JOE played the 2019 Fantastic Fest as a “sneak preview” - whatever that means. The first English language film from Austrian director Hausner, LITTLE JOE stars Emily Beecham as Alice a single mother caring for her son Joe (Kit Connor) while preoccupied with her genetically engineered plant species called Little Joe. As a senior scientist at a research company, Alice has developed a flower that, when cared for and spoken to, emits a red cloud of particulates containing oxytocin, essentially providing a source of artificial happiness. Frequently forced to work late monitoring her plants, Alice is often absent from her teen son’s life with late night take-out dinners becoming the norm. She makes an uncharacteristically poor decision to smuggle a single bloom home as a gift for her son, but before long young Joe’s personality begins to change. The trailer for this film looks gorgeous, providing a setting for a great story. A stark, glass-walled laboratory staffed by a crew of meticulous workers tending to a grid of single-stem houseplants featuring a crimson puffball on the end. Alice’s bright-red bob of hair and the dark fluorescent grow-lights being the only other signs of color. The sterile, antiseptic lab clashes with the ominous soundtrack pulsating throughout. The film itself delivers in this regard, every scene well-shot with some creative camera angles and long pans. The story is a slow burn, just as the trailer indicates, however it grows a bit thin with remarkably few twists or payoffs along the way. The conclusion is predictable and pedestrian, however the film does have an interesting subtext regarding antidepressants. Fortunately for folks like me who don’t always pick up on these things, the characters eventually have an overt conversation on the subject. With pharmaceuticals (or in this case, a potentially malicious chemical-emitting houseplant) that serve to artificially alter one’s personality to create happiness, at what point does the person become someone else altogether? One thing that drew me to this film is the fact that Emily Beecham picked up the award for Best Actress at Cannes for LITTLE JOE. This seemed unlikely for a genre film such as this, however, Cannes has a recent history of recognizing actresses in horror and sci-fi films, including Charlotte Gainsbourg for ANTICHRIST and Kirsten Dunst for MELANCHOLIA, both stemming from the deranged mind of Lars von Trier. Unfortunately, I found Beecham’s performance to be rather pedestrian, along with most of the cast, which also includes actor Ben Whishaw as Chris, a co-worker at the lab and potential love interest for Alice. The film works to build suspense as Alice sees subtle signs that her son and co-workers are behaving differently, possibly resulting from Little Joe’s spores. But “subtle” is the key word here, the film sacrificing any real excitement for the restraint of being a light psychological thriller. The obvious comparison here is to INVASION OF THE BODY SNATCHERS, either the 1956 film or the more well-known 1978 remake starring Donald Sutherland. There the plants are extraterrestrial rather than bio-engineered, but as they slowly begin to supplant people both mentally and physically, you get some genuine terror that has aged surprisingly well. LITTLE JOE starts with the same note, but all the fun parts are missing. What makes LITTLE JOE fantastic? The Little Joe plant was scientifically engineered to be infertile, ostensibly to give the company control over the plant’s production once it becomes a commercially viable product. However, as we know from a certain dinosaur, you cannot control nature’s intrinsic need to reproduce. In other words... This is basically the low-stakes flora version of JURASSIC PARK and it deserves a few points for that. LITTLE JOE is a slow-paced sci-fi thriller that rewards patient viewers with a meditative moral tale. The book's author Sondra Hausner (Professor of Anthropology, University of Oxford) will explore the issues raised in her book. Every month, a ragtag group of Londoners gather in the site known as Crossbones Graveyard to commemorate the souls of medieval prostitutes believed to be buried there—the “Winchester Geese,” women who were under the protection of the Church but denied Christian burial. In the Borough of Southwark, not far from Shakespeare's Globe, is a pilgrimage site for self-identified misfits, nonconformists, and contemporary sex workers who leave memorials to the outcast dead. Ceremonies combining raucous humor and eclectic spirituality are led by a local playwright, John Constable, also known as John Crow. His interpretation of the history of the site has struck a chord with many who feel alienated in present-day London. Sondra L. Hausner offers a nuanced ethnography of Crossbones that tacks between past and present to look at the historical practices of sex work, the relation of the Church to these professions, and their representation in the present. She draws on anthropological approaches to ritual and time to understand the forms of spiritual healing conveyed by the Crossbones rites. She shows that ritual is a way of creating the present by mobilizing the stories of the past for contemporary purposes. Hör grundaren Robert Redford och den franske kultfilmaren Quentin Dupieux i Gunnar Bolins porträtt av en festival som har pjäxor och skidbyxor som dresscode. Även i Göteborg är det snart festivaldags. Kino har träffat den österrikiska filmaren Jessica Hausner, regissören bakom Miraklet i Lourdes som nu är ordförande i den jury som ska dela ut en miljon kronor till vinnaren av priset Dragon Award i Göteborg. Filmfestivalen i Sundance är en av de där festivalerna som fortfarande har ett lite mystiskt skimmer över sig. Bilderna därifrån ser mer ut som scener från en idyllisk fjällby, än något pulserande centrum för den amerikanska indiefilmen. Folk i bylsiga dunjackor som pulsar runt i snön. Filmbolagsfester som pågår i små timrade stugor. Efter att ha sett Cannes invaderas varenda år av horder av människor undrar man ju hur den där lilla staden, Park City, egentligen får plats med media, filmstjärnor, filmbolagsmänniskor och dessutom en engagerad filmpublik. Och hur hänger festivalen ihop med Sundanceinstutet - namnet brukar blixtra till i eftertexterna till vissa filmer. Gunnar Bolin förklarar hur allt funkar i sin rapport från hans premiärtur till Sundance filmfestival där pjäxor och skidbyxor är dresscode. Även i Göteborg är det snart festivaldags. En av de filmskapare som finns i programmet är den amerikanska regissören Jonathan Caouette som 2005 slog igenom med sin debutfilm Tarnation. Ett frenetiskt montage av dokumentära scener blandat med gamla hemvideoinspelningar från hans barndom. En uppväxt som till stor del präglades av mammans personlighetsstörningar, delvis framkallade av elchocker som hon behandlats med efter en förlamning som barn. Nu har det kommit en ny film av honom som visas på filmfestivalen i Göteborg. Walk Away Renee berättar på nytt historien om förhållandet mellan mor och son, men den här gången med Jonathans mamma Renee som huvudperson, och han själv mer som en bifigur. Filmen är både en fortsättning och en avslutning på den första filmen, men kanske framför allt en kärlekshistoria mellan en mor och en son, berättar Jonathan Caouette för Kinos Gunilla Kracht. Det är ju danskt tema på Göteborgs filmfestival i år. En av filmerna som visas där är Labrador, eller Out of bounds som den heter på engelska, gjord av långfilmsdebutanten Frederikke Aspöck, och med manus av dansk/svenske Daniel Dencik - skådespelaren Davids bror. Och i huvudrollen i denna danska film ser vi faktiskt Jacob Eklund. Han spelar Nathan, en rå, farlig och oberäknelig svensk man som bor på en ödslig ö. När hans dotter kommer på besök med sin pojkvän så börjar en sorts märklig maktkamp och psykologisk krigföring mellan pappan och den blivande svärsonen. Roger Wilson träffade Frederikke och Daniel på filmens världspremiär i Cannes i fjol. Och då var hans första fråga hur Jacob Eklund egentligen hamnade i filmen. Är den ett möte mellan de svenska och danska manlighetstyperna - eller var det bara ett sätt att få loss samproduktionspengar från sverige till en dansk film? Men det visade sig att det faktiskt var skrivet så i manuset redan från början. Och manusförfattaren Daniel och filmkonsulenten som de fick pengar av fick övertala Fredrikke om att det inte finns en man som Nathan i Danmark. Kino har träffat den österrikiska filmaren Jessica Hausner, regissören bakom Miraklet i Lourdes som i fjol vann en Guldbagge för bästa utländska film. Det var hennes stora internationella genombrott.
