The phrase "My Twitter Experience With Gabe Hoffman 'An Open Secret'" is the exact title of a prominent, multi-part podcast episode featured on The Opperman Report, hosted by private investigator Ed Opperman. [1]The episode explores the turbulent online ecosystem, targeted social media campaigns, and internal legal conflicts surrounding the controversial 2014 documentary about Hollywood child exploitation, An Open Secret. [2, 3]Context Behind the ControversyTo understand the context of the Twitter conflicts detailed in the podcast, it helps to examine the background of the documentary and its key figures:The Documentary: Directed by Academy Award-nominee Amy Berg, An Open Secret features first-hand accounts from survivors detailing systemic sexual abuse within Hollywood. Despite widespread critical interest, major digital distribution platforms like Netflix and Amazon bypassed the film, leading the creators to eventually release it for free on Vimeo. [2, 4, 5]Gabe Hoffman: A wealthy hedge-fund manager and the executive producer of the film, Hoffman financed the project through his company, Esponda Productions. [3, 6]The Core Issues Addressed in the "Twitter Experience"The podcast and broader reports document how the film's official X (formerly Twitter) presence shifted from promotional content into highly aggressive, litigious, and politically charged territory: [3, 7]Infighting and Threats of Lawsuits: The production was plagued by internal legal battles. Hoffman publicly rebuked director Amy Berg for a perceived failure to promote the film. According to reports by The Huffington Post, Hoffman threatened legal action against Evan Henzi, a sex abuse survivor featured in the documentary, after Henzi spoke out about behind-the-scenes distortions. [2, 7]Aggressive Twitter Campaigns: Under Hoffman's oversight, the official X/Twitter account for An Open Secret was frequently used to aggressively weaponize allegations. The account amassed tens of thousands of followers by posting about ongoing criminal cases, calling out specific judges, and targeting critics. [3, 6]Political Alignments and Fringe Media: Hoffman faced scrutiny for utilizing his platform to boost partisan narratives. During high-profile political events, such as the Georgia Senate runoffs, the documentary's official page was used to post insinuations against political candidates. Hoffman also frequently aligned with fringe media networks, promoting the documentary on platforms like Alex Jones' InfoWars. The Advocacy Detective is about becoming a more strategic, relational climate advocate by learning how to better understand the political world your Member of Congress operates within. Before we can effectively persuade, we first need to understand — their district, their pressures, their priorities, the language they use, and the communities they feel accountable to. In BRIDGE, we talk a lot about meeting people where they are. Tonight is about learning how to actually find where that is using practical research tools to understand your Member of Congress's district realities, incentives, influencers, and language—so your outreach is specific, respectful, and strategically targeted.
With the 2026 midterms ahead, a flood of campaign donations is expected in California and beyond — with a growing amount coming from the tech industry, including a $500 million push by California tech billionaires. Scott and Marisa sit down with Hilary Braseth, Executive Director of the nonpartisan organization Open Secrets, to discuss what these donations could mean as the primary season gets into full swing. They also dig into the rise of hard-to-trace “dark money,” and how emerging industries like AI and crypto are using a new playbook to influence elections and policy. Amy Berg directs a documentary based on child-actors being sexually abused within the Hollywood film industry. This subject matter is sensitive material. The Actors Room will do its best to keep calm in explaining my thoughts on the subject. Please remember these are just my opinions and people should do their own research on such matters.

Ephesians 3.1-13. It was always God's intention to make irreligious outsiders, hopelessly alienated from God, members of his royal family alongside his ancient chosen people, the Jews. So why did God delay this for centuries? Why wait so long? It's a bit of a puzzle. Ephesians 3 explains. 8 March 2026.

Numbers often tell the story best. Yesterday, we discussed today's 95/5 reality in which 5% of Americans control 95% of the wealth. Today, in our conversation with Patrick Markee, author of Placeless, the key number is 2%. That's the number of Americans who, on any given day, are homeless. But it's a number, Markee insists, that doesn't have to be. Mass homelessness, America's most shameful open secret, is a modern phenomenon, he explains, triggered by Reagan's neo-liberal policies. There's nothing inevitable or necessary about it. And just as economic and political policy caused the crisis, it can also solve it. What's most chilling is how normalized it's become. Two-thirds of Americans are too young to remember a time when large numbers of people weren't sleeping on sidewalks. In New York City alone, 35,000 children sleep in shelters every night—numbers not seen since the Great Depression. Future generations, Markee suggests, will look back at us the way we look back at those who tolerated slavery. How could we all have just walked on by? This is a public episode. To unpack how this covert defence partnership unfolded, what the whistleblower’s documents reveal, and what this means for oversight of South Africa’s arms exports, John Maytham is joined by Michael Marchant, Head of Investigations at Open Secrets — the organisation that broke this story after a three-week court gag order was lifted. Michael walks us through the findings and the troubling implications for accountability at home and abroad. Following a high-profile presidential pardon and a surge in political spending across the digital asset sector, questions are emerging about how influence, lobbying, and access are shaping the policy environment for Web3. This week I'm speaking with award-winning British author Tessa Hadley about her newest novella, The Party. Set in postwar Bristol, it follows two sisters over a single weekend as they move through a series of gatherings that reveal the class divisions and shifting gender roles of mid-century Britain — that fascinating era between the war and the Beatles. In our conversation, we discuss Hadley's approach to memory, social change, and everyday life, as well as the literary influences that shaped her work. Known for novels like The Past and Free Love, and for her regular stories in The New Yorker, Hadley offers sharp insights into British society and storytelling. It was a great chat, and I hope you enjoy listening to it.Lit with Charles loves reviews. If you enjoyed this episode, I'd be so grateful if you could leave a review of your own, and follow me on Instagram at @litwithcharles. Let's get more people listening – and reading!Tessa Hadley's four books were:Tom's Midnight Garden, by Philippa Pearce (1958)The Rainbow, by D H Lawrence (1915)Guest of Honour, by Nadine Gordimer (1970)Open Secrets, by Alice Munro (1994)
Have you ever heard advice like "have more conversations" or "communicate your value" and thought, "I'm already doing that—why isn't it working?" In this episode, I'm revealing the four open secrets to getting hired that everyone talks about but almost no one executes correctly. These aren't hidden strategies—they're things you've heard a million times. The problem? There's a massive gap between knowing these surface-level tips and actually mastering the nuances that make them work. I break down exactly what's missing when people say "referrals don't work anymore" or "I know my value but can't convince others of it."Learn why meaningful conversations aren't just networking, how to communicate value without falling into "convincing mode," what makes stories compelling beyond the STAR method, and why the questions you ask matter more than the answers you give. Plus, I share how one of my clients landed two job offers in one day by applying these principles correctly.Get full show notes and more information here: https://www.nataliefishertraining.com/episode-253

We've been working through 2 Timothy on Sunday evenings. Last week I preached from 2 Timothy 3:6-9. It's a passage–like many in the pastoral epistles–that deals with false teaching. Paul warns against the folly of false teaching (and against the folly of falling for it).Which leads to the question: what is false teaching and how do we spot it?Obviously, there is no foolproof scheme for identifying false teaching. Biblical discernment takes years of prayer, preaching, and practice. But there are certain questions that may be help us sift the good from the bad. Here are 15 discernment diagnostic questions I suggested to my congregation.7. Does the teaching involve secrets? This was the appeal of Gnosticism. It purported to lead the initiate into the realm of secret knowledge. This is what makes me nervous about Masons, Mormons, and even many fraternities and sororities. Unless national security is involved, be wary of groups that are held together by tightly held secrets. Books with “secret” in the title are usually suspect too (Lesslie Newbigin's The Open Secret being the exception that proves the rule).8. Does it rely on a cartoon view of God? False teaching tends to cast God as either as a autocratic strongman or a friendly face passing out beads at Woodstock? By contrast, the God of the Bible shines forth with (to use Jonathan Edwards' phrase) a host of diverse excellencies.9. Does the teaching use big themes to negate specific verses? We should always interpret Scripture with Scripture, but we must not allow amorphous themes like love or justice or grace to flatten the contours of Scripture. For more information about this group, please visit their website at reformationboise.com. Allegations by Donald Trump: Former President Donald Trump is quoted calling for an investigation into Nancy Pelosi, accusing her of using insider information to amass wealth through stock trading. He claims Pelosi has achieved returns “practically in the history of Wall Street” and suggests this is due to her access to non-public information. Financial Discrepancies Highlighted: Pelosi’s government salary is cited as $174,000/year, yet her net worth is reported to have grown from $114.7 million in 2018 to potentially $413 million by 2024. The file references sources like OpenSecrets, Investopedia, and The Times to support these figures. Paul Pelosi reportedly earned between $7.8 million and $42.5 million in 2024 from stock trades. Stock Performance: The Pelosi portfolio allegedly returned 54% in 2024, outperforming the S&P 500’s 25% gain. Notable trades included early investments in Nvidia and Palo Alto Networks, and timely sales of Microsoft and Visa. Pelosi’s Response: In a CNN interview with Jake Tapper, Pelosi deflects the insider trading question, emphasizing her focus on the 60th anniversary of Medicaid. She denies wrongdoing, stating: “I’m not into it. My husband is,” and accuses Trump of “projecting.” Please Hit Subscribe to this podcast Right Now. Ruth Egnoski's story was difficult to piece together. Between fragmented newspaper archives and fading memories, there were gaps we feared might never be filled. We couldn't even determine what year Ruth had disappeared. We had submitted records requests to the Delavan Police Department, but at the time we produced the episode, we had received no response. Given the uncertainty and the reality that some departments never respond, despite open records laws requiring them to do so, we decided to move forward with the story. Then, less than a month after the episode aired, we were stunned to receive a large police file from the Delavan Police Department.
