On this episode, Travis and Eric dive into a viral clip from financial podcaster Caleb Hammer, known for brutally honest, entertaining, and accessible advice that puts real-life financial struggles under the microscope. Together, they unpack Hammer's take on emergency funds—and the problems with generic one-size-fits-all advice in personal finance. On this episode we talk about: Why $1,000 in emergency savings rarely works—and the psychological trap of feeling secure with too little cash How Dave Ramsey's famous “starter emergency fund” may work in theory, but often isn't enough in practice, especially for those with significant debt The real meaning of building financial discipline: Knowing your risk level, running the numbers, and tailoring your strategy How Travis approaches emergency savings for entrepreneurs vs. employees—and why life always costs more than you expect Tips for keeping your money liquid, accessible, but not so visible you lose your financial hustle Top 3 Takeaways Personal finance isn't one-size-fits-all—generic playbooks don't address your actual risks or needs. A starter emergency fund (like $1,000) is better than nothing, but long-term security needs three to six months of expenses—especially if your income is volatile. Financial discipline means both protecting yourself from unexpected setbacks and making your money work for you—don't let “safe” dollars stop you from growing. Notable Quotes “Life will always demand more money than you think it will.” “Past a certain dollar amount, every extra dollar should be out working for you. Money in a savings account loses value over time.” “You want that feeling of urgency when you look at your accounts—you should be hustling, not getting comfortable.” ✖️✖️✖️✖️

Authorities estimate that 9-year-old Melodee Buzzard has been missing from Vandenberg Village, California, since October 7, 2025. She was last seen with her mother, Ashlee Buzzard, when she was driving a rented white Chevy Malibu, license plate number 9MNG101, from California to Nebraska between October 7th, 2025, and October 14th, 2025. Many talented professionals believe that their good work should speak for itself. They deliver results, stay humble, and hope that recognition will naturally follow. But in today's fast-paced and competitive world, quiet excellence often goes unnoticed. In episode 244 of The Mindset Game® Podcast, Hall of Fame speaker and executive speech coach Patricia Fripp shares practical strategies for mastering what she calls shameless self-promotion—the art of communicating your value with confidence, authenticity, and grace. Drawing on decades of experience helping leaders and professionals sharpen their communication, Patricia explains how self-promotion done well isn't arrogance—it's service. It allows others to understand your contributions, trust your expertise, and open doors to new opportunities. You'll learn: How to promote yourself with integrity, using language that highlights results, collaboration, and the words of others rather than self-boasting Simple strategies to increase visibility at work, from engaging confidently in meetings to creating “cameo moments” that leave a lasting impression Tips for modest or introverted professionals to practice visibility safely and authentically Patricia reminds us that success isn't just about what we do—it's about what others see and remember. As she says, “If you don't toot your own horn, there is no music.” To explore more of Patricia's work, visit www.Fripp.com. In episode #227, “Hitting a Language or Growth Plateau,” I dive into what it really means to feel “stuck” — whether you're learning a new language on your mission or working toward any kind of growth goal. We'll talk about how powerful your thoughts are, how labeling yourself as “stuck” can actually keep you there, and how to shift your mindset to get unstuck with more compassion and intention. I'll teach you how to move from fear-based motivation—like pressure, judgment, or comparison—to love-based motivation rooted in purpose, connection, and service. In this episode, I also explore a new way to think about the gift of tongues: what if true communication isn't just about perfect words, but about heart-to-heart intent and the Spirit? We'll look at how to reframe your progress, appreciate the middle moments of learning, and keep growing—not because you “should,” but because you genuinely want to. Whether you're a currently serving missionary, preparing to go, home from your mission, or a missionary mom or leader, this episode will help you strengthen your emotional resilience, faith, and love for the process of becoming. As always, if you found this episode helpful, I want to invite you to subscribe if you aren't already, share this episode with your friends and missionaries you know, and write a review. In today's episode, I'm getting a little unhinged (in the best way) and sharing the tough truth about why you might not be where you want to be yet. I'm breaking down the hidden ways we slip into victim mode, the excuses that keep us stuck, and the truth about what it actually takes to create the results you say you want. My guest today is Dr. Hector — a psychiatrist who specializes in helping people heal from addiction, PTSD, anxiety, and depression through a trauma-informed approach. He blends neuroscience, medication, and therapy with nutrition and lifestyle tools to support whole-person healing. What I love about his work is that it's not just clinical — it's deeply compassionate. He helps people understand how their brain and body work together so they can build resilience, recover from addiction, and truly heal from the inside out. He shares why most people relapse not because of willpower, but because trauma remains unresolved. From the role of GABA in calming the nervous system to how EMDR helps reprocess trauma, this episode is packed with practical tools and compassionate wisdom for anyone on the healing path. Before we jump in, I have a new segment, called “A question for you!” Today I want to know how you feel about the word “Alcoholic”. I was interviewed on another podcast today and the host told me he thought it was a shame label. If you know me even a little bit, you'll know that the way I define it - it's a badge of honor, but also, it doesn't matter to me what you call yourself, as long as you get the support you need to heal and break free from addiction. So what do you think? Leave your comment under this episode at odaatchat.com Or leave a comment on my Instagram: @arlinaallen Next week I'll share some of your responses! You only need to be a few steps ahead to be an expert. You don't need to be the most experienced person in your space to be looked at as the go-to expert, but there are a few things you will need to nail if you want to position yourself as one. Becoming a sought-after expert is actually not about knowing everything. In this episode, I'll dive into why your expertise isn't about the years of experience you have—it's your clarity on the topic, the confidence you show, and the connection you have with your audience. In this episode, you will learn about: Redefining the word “expert” and what it means when I use it. The importance of knowing your lane (so you can stand out in it). Why consistency is more important than perfection when showing your expertise. Different strategies you can use for powerfully connecting people. “Their cup of coffee, that delightful delicious cup that's helping them start their day and fuel these wonderful moments with their friends and family, almost certainly has either slavery, child labor, and deforestation in it. How has this industry gotten away with the plastic, with the cups, the milk, the human rights abuses, the deforestation? Scientists tell us this is the 11th hour. We are running out of time.” What would drive someone to take on some of the most powerful industries on Earth? This episode dives deep with Etelle Higonnet, a lawyer turned fearless activist who has dedicated her life to exposing the hidden abuses behind the products we use every day. From cocoa and palm oil to rubber and now coffee, she has fought to rebuild broken systems from the inside out. As the founder of Coffee Watch, Etelle is leading a global effort to transform one of humanity's favorite and most destructive commodities into a model of sustainability and fairness. We explore how she has held corporations accountable, what it takes to create real impact, and why every purchase and every choice matters more than we realize. What we discuss in this episode: The hidden truth behind your daily cup of coffee: what's really going into it and who pays the price. What it would actually cost per cup to ensure your coffee is ethical and environmentally sound. How to find coffee that's sustainably sourced and free of toxic chemicals. The primary drivers of global deforestation. Dark secrets behind chocolate production. What agroforestry is and why it's critical to the planet's future. How climate change affects coffee production. Did you know that 85% of your success comes from believing in yourself? In this episode of the Productivity Smarts Podcast, host Gerald J. Leonard sits down with Lou Pelliccioni, a seasoned coach, businessman, and author of Success Is More Than Winning: 99 Tips to Up Your Game. Lou takes us through his inspiring journey from high school coach to motivational speaker and financial professional, revealing how he transformed an obsession for coaching into a lifelong mission to help others grow. He explains why success is less about avoiding failure and more about embracing it, and how grit and self-belief are the real foundations of achievement. Drawing from legendary coach John Wooden, Lou highlights the power of competing against yourself instead of others, a mindset that builds focus, discipline, and resilience. He also shares his daily habits of goal-setting, visualization, seeking mentors, giving back, and staying consistent. An acclaimed science writer on how to upgrade your mind by using more than your head. Annie Murphy Paul is a science writer and TED speaker. Her latest book is The Extended Mind: The Power of Thinking Outside the Brain. In this episode we talk about: Why upgrading your mind involves more than just using your head. How our bodies, surroundings, and relationships all have the power to enhance our thinking. Practical strategies for “thinking with the body,” including interoception, the role of intuition, movement breaks, and even fidgeting. The importance of gesture and movement—why sitting perfectly still actually makes thinking harder for many of us. Tips for “thinking with your surroundings”—from stepping outdoors to using evocative objects and whiteboards to organize your ideas. The social side of thinking: how to learn from experts, think with peers, and harness the intelligence of groups. The challenges—and potential—of group collaboration, avoiding the pitfalls of groupthink, and fostering what psychologists call “groupiness.” The concept of “extension inequality”: why access to the resources that enhance thinking—like nature, movement, and mentorship—is not distributed equally, and why that matters. And finally, why returning to the way kids learn—using hands, bodies, play, and connection—might actually be good for all of us.
