The life of Michael Parenti is truly extraordinary, as he witnessed two significant cultural movements that changed the word. Growing up in Malibu, he went to school with the likes of Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen, met a young Madonna before she was an international star, hung out in Bob Dylan's house, and saw live acts like Nirvana and Red Hot Chilli Peppers long before MTV made them famous. As an internet entrepreneur, he became involved with the Bitcoin Foundation and also saw the early days of Ethereum. He attended hundreds of events, spoke with some of the people who are completely unapproachable today, and found himself in the middle of something magical, naive, and revolutionary. In this episode, we talk about the backstage politics that Michael Parenti witnessed and what it was like to believe in the cyhpherpunk dream more than a decade ago. In this episode, Troy interviews Sabrina and Rik Konings from Kings Digital based in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia. Kings Digital is a team of digital specialists who provide expertise across Strategy, Digital Brand & Web Design, Technical Development, and Digital Marketing. The business started in 2013 as a sole trader and then evolved quickly into the original business KingsDesign. The business grew organically with the help of consulting work for larger Tasmanian businesses and founder Rik's foresight to create a good network of professional contacts. The Kings Digital team uses customer retention to measure the success of their business and aims to work with clients across multiple areas of expertise. What Rik and Sabrina have found the most challenging is creating a good team, which is integral to the business. To them, success would be to be able to step out of the business for a reasonable period of time and not feel that you need to be part of it. This Cast Covers: How they got a 75 to 80% client retention The struggle of finding the right staff How effectively removing the single-point dependencies within the business allows for growth Self-funding the business without any investor and financing Rebranding from Kings Design to Kings Digital Links: Kings Digital Entrepreneurs' Programme Grant Additional Resources: It Doesn't Have to Be Crazy at Work by Jason Fried Scaling Up by Verne Harnish Quotes: “Marketing can be quite confrontational upfront because you're literally questioning your client, whether what they want is right or not. Sometimes that means we're literally not getting to work because we don't agree with their approach. But I think that honesty upfront does build a lot of trust in that relationship.” — Sabrina and Rik Konings “I think we've said no to more work than we've said yes to because we are now looking at work that isn't going to serve us and isn't going to make our team happy.” — Sabrina and Rik Konings “We're going to make a lot of mistakes, we're going to get things wrong but it's about constant discipline, chipping away at it and getting that momentum in terms of growing your business.” — Rik Konings “Honesty upfront does build a lot of trust in that relationship.” — Rik Konings “In Marketing, I think the main thing is to do your research upfront. And then to not try a single thing, try multiple things, and have well-detailed reporting in place.” — Rik Konings Be strategic upfront, think about your audience, think about what you're trying to do, really think about those goals and then try the channels that you think are going to be worthwhile. Be brutal, cut what doesn't work and hone in what does and capitalise on that. - Rik Konings

“There's a tension there that exists between knowing what you're going to cover and responding to the humans that are in front of you,” said Iain Brunnschweiler, the Head of Technical Development at English Premier League club Southampton FC.“We've tried to evolve a curriculum, a player development framework, that manages that tension. We want to cover specific topics and we also want to coach the player that's in front of us.” Brunnschweiler was speaking onstage at Leaders Meet: Coach & Player Development on the 24 March at Cardiff's Principality Stadium, where he was joined by England Netball Head Coach Jess Thirlby to discuss the progress being made in coach and player development.During the session, which was moderated by Dan Clements, the Performance Coach Manager at Wales Rugby Union, the duo discussed:- Why curriculums need to be carefully implemented [3:00];- The value in playbooks and the implications for creativity [12:00];- The most meaningful learning experiences they provide [16:00];- Finding work-life balance [24:00].John Portch: Twitter | LinkedInListen above and subscribe today on iTunes, Spotify, Stitcher and Overcast, or your chosen podcast platform.

PANASONIC PLANNING ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY PLANT IN U.S. - Japan's Panasonic Corp. is looking to purchase land in the United States for a massive factory to make a new type of electric vehicle battery for Tesla, public broadcaster NHK reported on Friday. - Panasonic is looking at building the several billion dollar factory in either Oklahoma or Kansas for their proximity to Texas, where Tesla is preparing a new EV plant, NHK reported. NHK gave no timeline for Panasonic's U.S. project. - A long-time Tesla supplier, Panasonic has already announced plans to begin mass-producing the new type of lithium-ion battery for Tesla before the end of March, 2024 with two new production lines at its western Japanese plant in Wakayama. Original Source : https://www.autonews.com/automakers-suppliers/panasonic-planning-electric-vehicle-battery-plant-us KIA AIMS TO SELL 1.2 MILLION EVS IN 2030 - Following in Hyundai's footsteps, Kia has now also presented its strategic roadmap for accelerating its electrification ambitions by 2030. To achieve the sales target, at least two new electric models are to be introduced each year. - Kia assumes – based on 160,000 BEV sales this year – that it will already sell 807,000 BEVs in 2026 and then 1.2 million battery-electric cars in 2030. - With the 1.87 million electric cars Hyundai is targeting, according to its strategy update unveiled the day before, Hyundai-Kia would have sales of more than three million electric cars in 2030. - While Hyundai has announced further development of its current EV platform E-GMP for 2025, Kia does not mention this Integrated Modular Architecture (IMA). Hyundai plans to rely not only on standardized e-motors and chassis designs, but also on batteries with cell-to-pack technology from CATL, which does not require modules. In its announcement, Kia refers to everything from the upcoming EV9 – the large E-SUV is still based on the current E-GMP. - Kia announces production of “small and mid-sized electric vehicles” in Europe starting in 2025 – this will likely be located at the Zilina plant in Slovakia Original Source : https://www.electrive.com/2022/03/03/kia-aims-to-sell-1-2-million-bevs-in-2030/ KIA AUTOMODE TO LAUNCH IN 2023, COMING TO EV9 SUV FIRST - Korean car manufacturer Kia is to launch an autonomous driving mode for select vehicles from 2023 on. - AutoMode uses a range of proprietary autonomous driving technologies, which include Highway Driving Pilot to enable driver-less travel on motorways and highways. It will feature first in next year's Kia EV9 SUV and, by 2026, will be available in all new models launched in major markets. - AutoMode will receive regular over-the-air updates as new features are developed. Kia will also enhance and improve the system with the goal of eventually offering fully autonomous technology. Original Source : https://www.pocket-lint.com/cars/news/kia/160259-kia-automode-to-launch-in-2023-autonomous-driving-coming-to-ev9-suv-first HYUNDAI BRANDS TO USE NEW EV PLATFORM WITH STANDARDIZED BATTERIES AND MOTORS - Hyundai Motor Group has just launched its first models based on a dedicated electric-vehicle platform known as the E-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform), but the Korean auto giant has already announced a next-generation platform that will further standardize key parts across vehicles from the Hyundai, Kia and Genesis brands. - The new platform is known as the IMA (Integrated Modular Architecture), and it's an evolution of the E-GMP design. But unlike the E-GMP, which has different battery systems for each vehicle it supports, the IMA will have a standardized battery. The motors (of which there will be five types) and key chassis components will also be standardized, all helping to improve production efficiencies. - the platform will suit all segments and will be used for both passenger vehicles and purpose-built vehicles, such as delivery vehicles and shuttles for self-driving taxi services. - From 2025, Genesis will only launch EVs. - the redesigned Genesis G90 will offer a self-driving capability at Level 3 on the SAE scale in some markets by the second half of 2022 Original Source : https://www.motorauthority.com/news/1135204_hyundai-brands-to-use-new-ev-platform-with-standardized-batteries-and-motors MERCEDES EQS SUV SPIED UP CLOSE TESTING IN CALIFORNIA - The EQS is currently the most technologically advanced EV from the Stuttgart-based firm and it will soon morph into a high-riding EQS SUV. We've seen it testing on a number of occasions and a new video shows us a prototype on a parking lot in South California. - This new sighting of the model doesn't give us a look under the camouflage, though we get a very quick look inside the cabin. For now, everything remains heavily camouflaged - The EQS will join the already existing EQA, EQB, and EQC, all built on modified platforms for combustion cars. The range-topping EV SUV will be assembled in the United States at the Tuscaloosa plant from 2022 along with the smaller EQE SUV. - The only piece of confirmed information available so far is that Mercedes estimates the range between charges will be up to 373 miles (600 kilometers), depending on the configuration. Organizers say one of the big-ticket items that car enthusiasts will come to check out is the Fully-electric Ford F-150 Lightning. - The newest attraction this year is the e-Track, the show's first-ever multi-brand electric vehicle test track. This involves turning the Group's largest engineering unit with 11,500 employees into a pace-setter for the Volkswagen brand's transformation into a technology company. - The main emphasis is on a complete redesign of the development process, making it interdisciplinary, focused squarely on software, customer requirements and SSP, Volkswagen's electric platform of the future, and centered on functions rather than individual components. - This is expected to cut development time by about a quarter, increase the speed of new software releases and also significantly accelerate manufacturing processes in production. - In the 1990s, vehicle development centered primarily on components. As functions and electronics were added in the early 2000s, connectivity began to play an increasingly important role. Now and in the future, the vehicle must be viewed as one system in the customer's entire ecosystem and communicate seamlessly with all systems outside the vehicle. - vehicle projects will be completed in 40 months instead of 54 months as before Original Source : http://www.automobilsport.com/cars-tuning--37/cars-tuning--37,234746,Volkswagen-realigns-Technical-Development-shorter-product-cycles-and-faster-digital-offerings,news.htm AUDI REVEALS UPDATED Q4 E-TRON EV WITH FASTER CHARGING AND UPDATED INTERIOR Original Source : https://www.aol.co.uk/motoring/audi-reveals-updated-q4-e-132743050.html 2022 FIAT E-ULYSSE DEBUTS AS AN ELECTRIC MINIVAN FOR EUROPE Original Source : https://insideevs.com/news/571006/fiat-e-ulysse-electric-mpv/ GLOBAL BATTERY DEMAND TO INCREASE 15-FOLD AS EV BOOM TAKES OFF Original Source : https://oilprice.com/Energy/Crude-Oil/Global-Battery-Demand-To-Increase-15-Fold-As-EV-Boom-Takes-Off.html TESLA FEARS HAVING TO SHUT DOWN SERVICE CENTERS IN OKLAHOMA AS NEW BILL PASSES COMMITTEE Original Source : https://electrek.co/2022/03/03/tesla-fears-having-to-shut-down-service-centers-oklahoma-new-bill-passes-committee TESLA ROADSTER MAKES HISTORY WITH $250K SALE Original Source : https://www.benzinga.com/news/22/02/25884348/tesla-roadster-makes-history-with-250k-sale-heres-the-worlds-most-expensive-tesla THE ARC ONE IS AN ELECTRIC BOAT WITH A BATTERY PACK THREE TIMES THE SIZE OF TESLA'S Original Source : https://www.theverge.com/2022/3/3/22958830/arc-electric-boat-pre-proudction-photo-video-battery BYD SELLS 88,283 NEVS IN FEB, UP 752.6% YEAR-ON-YEAR Original Source : https://cnevpost.com/2022/03/03/byd-sells-88283-nevs-in-feb-up-752-6-year-on-year QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM What's the best looking EV on the market right now? Strength coaches often complain that sport coaches do not understand physical development and proper general training. However, we forget that tactical and technical elements are king in the game of performance. So why not leave our silo and go learn from sport coaches? This is the first of many discussions I hope to have with sport coaches to better understand the structure of sport and how to reverse engineer my process from the field to the weight room instead of the opposite approach we so commonly utilize. Special thanks to these panelists who got the ball rolling! Matt Troy is the head volleyball coach at Johns Hopkins and is fresh off an undefeated season in which his ladies won the DIII National Championship, Max Watson is the head men's soccer coach at VMI and Kyle Bakas is the head men's soccer coach at Coe College. I ask you to let me know if you have any good guest recommendations for similar topics. Streamlining the development and performance process is critical to winning and it's time to leave our silos and share information across fields.
During quarantine I was asked if I would do a video interview for the West Canada Soccer Academy as part of their Player Development Master Class Series as a technical development expert. I was interviewed by my old friend Jason Blake who I worked with at Southampton FC. Jason went onto work at AFC Bournemouth, Burnley and now is Technical Director at the West Canada Soccer Academy and Red Deer Dome. The audio was taken for this Extra Time (The Inner Huddle) podcast and all 15 questions with timings are below. I hope you enjoy it. (2:40) We know each other from when we both worked at Southampton FC. Can you just give us a little insight to who you are and your journey that's got you to where you are today from a coaching point of view, and what's really got yourself a good knowledge and experience around technical development? (5:50) When we were young we used to play in the street. What does street soccer look like now for young players? (8:39) With your background of working in the pre academy at Southampton FC, how young does that go down to initially? (9:03) With players of that age what would you be encouraging the players to be doing in the foundation phase and pre academy? (11:03) At the risk of name dropping, I want to mention some of the players I know you've done some work with, 3 England Internationals, Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain & Jay Rodriguez. With Adam Lallana in mind, how would talk about the basics of what Adam did with you and how does it trace back to work you would do with a 6 or 7 year old? (14:41) How important is technical competence to help you through the challenges of maybe not being a physical size yet when you're playing against people that are perhaps a bit bigger? (18:32) Can we pick your brains about futsal and also what would the main reason be to use futsal balls as opposed to normal soccer balls? (21: 25) If grass roots clubs are training in a school gym or sports hall, is that sufficient to do futsal training? (23:04) Is there a difference in the type of ball used for futsal and does it make a difference when learning new skills and practicing them? (24:30) How appropriate is technical training across all age groups, is it equally important regardless of what age they re up to adults? (27:53) With regards to pitch sizes, we have a wide range of size within the FIFA regulations for 7 v 7 pitches. What are the benefits or challenges of being on the smaller side of the regulations? (32:41) For the younger players in our region, how should they think about their technical development depending on the position they play in? (37:30) A three part question: When is it ok to teach children tricks with the ball? Once we learn those new tricks how can we be confident enough to do them in games? How can we as players train during quarantine time so that we can keep getting better? (40:46) For the older players that might be a central defender should they be given a different type of technical work during this period? (45:37) Summary for coaches, parents and players and key messages to take away. Rob Hill graduated from NAIA Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA with a degree in Communication Studies. He pitched collegiately at Skagit Valley College ant Westmont College. While he was finishing up his playing career, he accepted an internship at Driveline Baseball as a pitching trainer. He has spent time at Driveline as both a trainee and trainer where he was one of the biggest enforcers of the training culture. After finishing out his playing career, he accepted a full-time position as a pitching trainer at Driveline and worked his way to Coordinator of In-Gym Development. After establishing himself as one of the top private pitching trainers in the country, Rob accepted a job as the Pitching Coordinator of Technical Development for the Los Angeles Dodgers. In this episode we talk about how he was thrown into the fire that is Driveline College Summer and how that was the foundation of his evolution of Rob Hill the trainee to Rob Hill the trainer. I ask Rob to talk about the care factor and and tell a story about how he was able to get the most of an athlete that he worked with at Driveline. He talks about training hypermobile athletes and exploring the proverbial corners and how he experimented with himself. Finally, we get into coaching as a specialist or a generalist and if it’s possible to do both. Where can you find Rob on social media? Twitter has helped me to produce this podcast, and I love it! I put out a question: How do you get the ‘technical’ work into your practices? Do you isolate? Coach it for the first part of an SSG? Expect players to be proficient already? ‘Remind’ players through tactical work? The responses were awesome. I have collated them into several categories for your ears to enjoy! We're baaaack, revisiting and updating you on Volo, the spiritual MLM that happened to be our first episode in 2018. What happened to it? One of the biggest difficulties in progressing as an athlete is deciding on how to structure a training program to best meet the goals that they have set out for themselves. It requires an honest assessment of many different factors such as physical, mental, and emotional capabilities and a firm understanding of how the body and mind work to enhance and sustain performance. Many athletes deal with a lot of frustration around hitting plateaus while many of them struggle to incorporate training routines that are often too complicated or poorly designed to offer any real benefit. Today we are stepping away from the philosophical content and diving into the nuts and bolts of technical development for parkour and movement practitioners. If you’re interested in learning how to take your skill, strength, speed, and subsequent training practices to the next level, our guest Ryan Ford is one of the foremost thinkers on the subject. In our conversation we’re going to talk about practices that beginners should orient themselves towards and ways that they can scale more advanced movements down to their level to streamline their development. We will also dive into what sets athletes apart at the highest levels of skill and how to zero in on and strengthen the attributes that are lagging behind. In addition we will talk about how to figure out which movements will give you the most bang for your buck depending on your individual limitations. So you might want to grab a pad and a pen and jot down notes for this one. Like always, if you have any questions drop them in the comments section below and don’t forget to like, share, and subscribe. We also would love to have you rate and review the show on iTunes! On this episode of Paint ED we are joined by Gareth Hayfield, the Head of Research and Technical Development at Farrow & Ball. Gareth has a true chemist’s perspective of quality paint production, and we challenged him with some questions about how that first-hand knowledge of the deep science of paint applies to contractors and salespeople in the field. He gives great advice on how to help customers understand the differences between the products you are using and what the ‘other guy’ is using, and how to communicate paint choices as a worthwhile investment. But contractors aren’t off the hook once they communicate this knowledge to customers—Gareth reminds you to follow those specs if you want to keep customers happy! Today Sasha and Katie get POLITICAL! We air our grivences about what's going on in Congress and the White House, HR 3409, and Trump's involvement with a couple MLMs. Listeners, we are all PIONEERS in this fairly new advocacy movement, and we need to RISE UP and stop this administration from allowing the FTC to relax any of its MLM or pyramid scheme laws. This is a very informative episode and WE NEED YOUR HELP in stopping this from happening. They got the pyramid schemes, but we got the guillotine. Off with their heads! Unless you were an early adopter of the ill-fated original Boomer episode, many of you thought you missed it. You didn't! We re-recorded it because we realized it just wasn't up to par with what we usually produce. So here's the reincarnation of Boomer! Boomer 2: Electric Boomarlo How is a 20lb tabby cat our new anti-MLM hero and mascot? What did he pull on Gary Young, founder of Young Living Essential Oils, to expose him for the fraud he is? Katie explains it all to Sasha and gets into the nitty gritty of Young's priors which is absolutely astounding. (And by Young we mean Gary, not Katie.) Have you ever wondered about the correlation between MLM and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints? Of course you have! Most of us have. But is there really a correlation? Are they really connected? In this episode, we talk with former church member and founder of MormonLeaks, Ryan McKnight, about the relationship between MLM, the church, and its members. We are BACK with our NEW WEDNESDAY SCHEDULE! Katie Young and Sasha Zazzi dive right into the calm blue sea to look at oysters - wait, where do they come from? We talk Vantel in this episode, the crazy phenomenon of pearl parties on FB Live, and how to not be an asshole. Sasha also explains her FB social experiment when she posed as an MLM pearl shucker for a night - she had to watch a lot of Nathan Fielder's "Nathan For You" to prepare to not break character and stay cool and collected in the biz world. For those interested in skipping ahead to the video after listening to the audio portion, skip to 41:06 on the episode on our Youtube Channel. Katie and Sasha discuss a very strange and mysterious, supposed MLM, per the press releases released a few months ago. However, there isn't a way to contact anyone, even if you call their "Hump Day" number. The mystery starts with a baby camel, and ends with Katie and Sasha trying freeze dried camel milk, recorded on video and uploaded to youtube. (Your earholes can get it as a regular podcast episode, but we recommend you head over to youtube to see the video - it's worth it.) SLMLMBUTOK - NOW DIRECT TO VIDEO! On this week's 'pode, Katie and Sasha get into the failed MLM "BurnLounge" that was branded as a pyramid scheme several years ago, only looking to start "BurnLounge 3.0" up soon. (Maybe. And maybe we can milk another episode out of this disaster.) "BurnLounge" was like owning an iTunes franchise - except you got paid in "burn points" instead of cash, until you paid to go up to the highest level, "Mogul" at $430. (Even then, for each 99 song that was downloaded off your website, reps would only receive 5c.) This ambitious MLM said it would combine "iTunes, Ebay, Myspace, and Netflix." It's no surprise it was illegal af. Give it a listen and let us know what you think, 'cause this is one of the worst ones we've discovered. We are the first and only anti-MLM podcast. We are completely against the predatory nature of multi-level-marketing schemes, and we are part of the Anti MLM Coalition and the #AntiMLMmovement. Things may be portrayed in a humorous light, but we take consumer advocacy very seriously. If you are in an MLM, there are ways to get out. We promise. These are MLMs that reps are encouraging people to join immediately to get it on the "ground floor" for 2018. If being successful in an MLM is all about working hard and educating people about why your product is the best, why should it matter if you get in on the ground floor? I thought hard work and dedication is all it took! There is a saying that goes, "sometimes it is easier to ask forgiveness than to ask permission." In the Pro AV world, it is MUCH easier to consider integration during the actual planning stage than to treat it as an "add-on". On today's podcast, our host spoke with Phillip Cordell, the VP of Technical Development for M3 Technology Group. They discussed the possibilities of a "cable-free" industry, the move towards including the AV team in the planning process during the construction phase, and how disappointing it is to watch a six-figure installation turn into a clock.
On this week's episode, Sasha and Katie sit down with very busy mother Allison Briner Kraft, as she shares the harrowing details about the 10 years she spent in Amway. Based on her account, Amway is, without a doubt, a cult that is difficult to break away from. As one of the oldest MLMs, the company has fine-tuned itself to be one of the most predatory of its kind in the network marketing industry. Two days late, but we are here! We believe this is a keynote episode for season 2 - everyone who has been approached by a "hunbot" (which we define in the episode for those new to the movement) needs to have a few responses in their arsenal of replies so no one feels obligated to engage in their sales pitches. Sasha and Katie discuss some of the more common manipulative approaches MLM reps may use to guilt you into a sale or joining their team, but they also ensure that the responses they suggest you can use are RESPECTFUL to the rep. It should never be our intention to bully them or go out of our way to hurt them. Most of them are victims of the MLM structure themselves. SOUNDS LIKE MLM BUT OKILY DOKILY! Hi diddly ho, anti-MLMerinos! We're back with SEASON TWO! Come listen to our podcast's "glow up" which includes... BETTER AUDIO!! To kick off our new beginning, Sasha and Katie got to binge watch a lot of television to bring you this special, educational episode explaining MLM satire in comedic sitcoms or black comedy movies. We will bring you some classic, nostalgic clips that will make you laugh out loud while still focusing on how utterly ridiculous multi-level-marketing is. Bonuses: Sasha and Katie (yet again) promote the Target Wine Cube without sponsorship, Sasha obsesses over the first 8 seasons of "The Simpsons" (the best episodes) several times throughout the episode, and a little tribute to Boomer, the 20 lb, healthy, tabby cat who exposed the Young Living Cancun Clinic as a scam through a simple blood test, and we end with a lil' Mel Brooks music number. If you're a Simpsons fan, I recommend listening to the very end of the episode past the outro music. Friday 27th April 2018. IMAGE OF VW’S FIRST NEW PRODUCTION ELECTRIC CAR REPORTEDLY LEAKS But the top story today. According to Bild newspaper in Germany, and a story spread by Electrek, an image of VW’s first full electric car was leaked today. This is the I.D. - there were previously three were calling the ID, the ID CROZZ and the ID BUZZ. This now has a name, the Neo, and it’s the Golf-sized full BEV. It’s being put into production in 2019 as a 2020 model year. Why this picture came to light today is up for debate. Maybe a supplier leaked, maybe a member of staff at VW, maybe it’s a really good photoshop. Assuming it is a picture of a production / prototype model, as in something that’s further along than the concept, what does it reveal? Well it’s very similar to the concept for a start. The short stubby nose remains, as we’re seeing with EV platforms which are designed for purpose, and not mutating a design which was to have an engine up front. The front bumper now has one long, horizontal, open area running the width of the car and along the bottom of the front bumper, which looks like it’s to suck in air for cooling. Above that, as we’re seeing with designs like the Hyundai Kona or Model 3, there is no grill because there doesn’t need to be one. The bonnet rakes quite quickly up to the bottom of the windscreen, which stats low down the front of the car and is a big piece of glass, same as the concept, for lots of light. The side is pictured and that’s pretty conventional, and similar to the concept too, what we don’t see is the rear. The wheels on this picture look like the Model 3 Aero Wheels which some extra silver detailing, but basically the same for maximum range. It’s very simple, very true to the one you might have seen Johnny Smith feature on Fully Charged. I hope it’s a real pic because it’s stylish without being cutting edge. A reminder of the specs, and this could all change, but real world range of 400kms which would be incredible, and a price of £25,000 or $30,000. The Bild article, which is behind a paywall, does say VW want to bring it in at $5,000 less than a base Model 3. We recently heard of the double digit billion Euro contracts signed for battery and tech supply, the factories being retooled and investment VW are putting into their MEB platform for this, and other, EVs. There was a lot of cynicism on forums and comments today, and that’s understandable given dieselgate, but I think VW are too far down the road to be bluffing. Add that to the change at the top of the company with Herbert Diess now in charge, remember the man who came from BMW and responsible for pushing the i3 and i8 when nobody else was doing electric stuff, this looks like it’s real. VOLKSWAGEN TO OFFER 48V MILD HYBRID VERSION OF EIGHTH-GENERATION GOLF IN 2019 Volkswagen will launcha 48V mild hybrid version of its Golf for the next generation, the 8th iteration of the car. Dr. Frank Welsch, Member of the Board of Management for Volkswagen Passenger Cars with responsibility for Technical Development said: “Electrifying conventional drives will enable us to further reduce consumption and emissions while also increasing dynamics and convenience. We are starting this extensive electrification campaign with Volkswagen’s best-selling vehicle to date—the Golf. Our newly developed, cost-effective 48-V mild hybrid will pave the way for introducing this type of technology to the mainstream.” “Volkswagen will combine the combustion engine with a 48-V belt-integrated starter generator and a 48-V battery. This combination represents the gateway to the future of Volkswagen hybrid models. The 48-V mild hybrid makes it possible to coast with the combustion engine completely switched off, thereby saving up to 0.3 liters of fuel over 100 kilometers. This mild-hybrid solution also offers much improved dynamics and convenience as a result of providing an electric boost upon start-up” says GreenCarCongress. It's rumoured that the new Golf will make its first appearance at the 2019 Frankfurt Motor Show And of course by staying at 48v that’s not high voltage, requiring most cost and those orange cables you’re used to seeing on EVs. However the downside of soft hybrids is no pure EV propulsion Given our last two stories, the ID and the soft hybrid Golfs, i can’t see a future for the current eGolf. POLESTAR 1 WILL START AT $155,000 IN THE UNITED STATES News from the Beijing show, not about a car now, but about the price of one you already know about. That’s the Polestar 1. Plug in hybrid, and available online only, several website today put a $155,000 sticker price on it. But at the Geneva auto show in March, Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath told Autoblog that "Polestar will be subscription service, 100 percent", 2 or 3 years. So what I still don’t understand, why is there even a sticker price? Is it just to frame it so you know what kind of cars it’s up against? IKEA FRANCE FORMS PARTNERSHIP WITH RENAULT MOBILITY IKEA has signed a partnership with Renault MOBILITY to offer its customers in France access to zero emission cars and vans. The service will help customers make their way home with their shopping by providing vehicles to hire by the hour” reports Fleet Europe: “the fleet will be all-electric by 2020. This week’s podcast is a really exciting one, particularly picking the brain of Wayne Schultz who is ahead of his time with game development, play and maximising participation. Wayne will explain his journey from a primary school physical education teacher, to now heading up game development around the world for Cricket Australia and other large multimillion dollar organisations. I don’t want to give too much away in the intro, but Wayne is a super star when it comes to teaching. This interview gives us all some amazing insight into the way teaching is heading through leading teachers and educators such as my mate Wayne. Follow Wayne on twitter @wshultz44

I am thrilled to feature Ron Carter today on the podcast. If is one bassist in the world that truly needs no introduction, it’s Ron. Ron recently received the Guinness World Record title for most recorded jazz bassist in history, with well over 2200 recording credits to his name. From his work with the Miles Davis Quintet in the 1960s to his collaborations with musicians like Freddie Hubbard, Joe Henderson, Hank Jones, his numerous projects as a bandleader, and his work outside of the jazz realm with artists like Billy Joel and A Tribe Called Quest, Ron has truly shaped our conception of the sound of the double bass. Ron has four books available: Comprehensive Bass Method Finding the Right Notes Building Jazz Bass Lines Ron Carter Collection Be sure to check out these books, and you can find the video for Ron Carter Live here. Ron's extensive discography is available through this link. I'd also like to welcome back our sponsor Discover Double Bass! They have a 4 hour course on creating walking bass lines, with 55 HD video lessons in a step-by-step order to help you to master the style of walking bass.
