A European research project has been launched to assess the potential for exoskeleton support to benefit nurses, carers and allied healthcare workers such as physiotherapists and occupational therapists. The study is funded by the EU's InterReg North-West Europe with academics and clinicians in Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands taking part. The Musculoskeletal Disorder Care project (MSD-CARE) aims to improve the working conditions of healthcare staff, to reduce the risk of disorders and injury and to support nursing staff and other healthcare workers in their daily work through the application of exoseketons. The researchers are also seeking to identify the facilitating factors and barriers to the use of exoskeletons in healthcare settings and offer practical solutions. Health and safety studies have highlighted that the risk of musculoskeletal disorders is 1.6 times higher for healthcare staff than those working in other sectors. Professor Georgina Gethin, Professor in Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Galway, said: "Nurses involved in direct patient care are subject to physically demanding tasks and suffer a higher rate of musculoskeletal problems than other healthcare workers. This can have a significant impact not only on their health but also on their ability to stay in their chosen profession. Any intervention that can help to highlight the issue of musculoskeletal disorders and find solutions to their prevention are a welcome development. In principle, they could be a great asset. It is important to know just how practical they would be in a busy work environment and how acceptable they would be to workers. We look forward to delivering on this for nurses and other healthcare workers." The study is being led by the University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HAWK), Lower Saxony, Germany, in partnership with University of Galway and Roessingh Research and Development in the Netherlands. The project is under the direction of Professor Dr Shiney Franz of the Göttingen Health Campus, a cooperation between HAWK and the University Medical Center Göttingen (UMG). Professor Franz said: "Involving exoskeletons in healthcare has high potential benefits for both patients and professionals. Our assumption is that wearing exoskeletons during activities such as mobilization or transfer of patients could improve the working conditions of care professionals and enhance patient safety. In this project, we aim to identify the working conditions in nursing that enable the integration of exoskeletons into the existing workflow, taking into account the care plan and goals." Funding of more than €657,000 has been provided to the research partnership under Interreg North-West Europe. A new exoskeleton research laboratory at the Göttingen Health Campus (GCG) is being used, where carers can test their daily work and routines with and without an exoskeleton, under the guidance of researchers. State-of-the-art analysis tools will be used, such as electromyography and respiratory gas analysis to determine the effects of exoskeletons on muscle activity and breathing. Focus groups will also be held in Ireland and in the Netherlands to identify barriers and facilitators of the use of exoskeletons for the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders. What happened to the 130 children that went missing from the town of Hamlein, Lower Saxony on 26th June, 1284? According to legend, a vindictive ‘Pied Piper' took revenge after the town had failed to stump up for his magical pest control services. But numerous sources corroborate that, fairy tales aside, the town's children really did disappear.  An inscription on the facade of a timbered house in the city, dating back to 1602, commemorates the strange event, and notes the Piper's role in leading the children away (though it makes no mention of rats). And church records and stained glass windows depict a Piper leading away ghostly children.  In this episode, Arion, Rebecca and Olly compare hypotheses on this centuries-old mystery; consider whether the kids were deliberately groomed to settle new communities; and reveal why the current-day Piper paraded for tourists is wearing the WRONG clothes… Further Reading: • ‘The grim truth behind the Pied Piper' (BBC Travel, 2020): https://www.bbc.com/travel/article/20200902-the-grim-truth-behind-the-pied-piper • ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin by Robert Browning' (Poetry Foundation): https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/45818/the-pied-piper-of-hamelin • ‘Faerie Tale Theatreseries: The Pied Piper of Hamelin' (Showtime, 1986): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fg43OBEISY0 Love the show? At approximately 7:37 a.m., police received reports of an active scene at Perry High School in Perry. Officers responded within seven minutes of the active shooter alarm, Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante told reporters. The total number of victims and their status have not been confirmed. Infante said authorities are working to determine that information and that there is no further danger to the public. "The community is safe," the sheriff said. "We're just now working backwards, trying to figure out everything that happened and make notifications. There will be another update later on today." The Associated Press reported two gunshot victims were taken by ambulance to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in the state capital of Des Moines. A law enforcement source told the AP the suspect in the shooting has died of what investigators believe is a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Infante said the shooting happened before school began. "Luckily, there was very few students and faculty in the building, which I think contributed to a good outcome in that sense," he said. Zander Shelley, 15, was in a hallway waiting for the school day to start when he heard gunshots and dashed into a classroom, his father, Kevin Shelley, told the AP. Zander was grazed twice and hid in the classroom before texting his father at 7:36 a.m. Kevin Shelley, who drives a garbage truck, told his boss he had to run. "It was the most scared I’ve been in my entire life," he said. Rachael Kares, an 18-year-old senior, told the AP she was at jazz band practice when students heard what sounded like four gunshots, spaced apart. "We all just jumped," Kares said. "My band teacher looked at us and yelled, ‘Run!’ So we ran." Kares said students and faculty ran out past the football field, with people yelling, "Get out! Get out!" as they ran. She said she heard additional shots while she fled, but was most concerned about getting home to her 3-year-old son. "At that moment I didn’t care about anything except getting out because I had to get home with my son," she told the AP. The sheriff's office, Perry Police Department and multiple federal agencies also responded to the shooting. Authorities have identified a suspect but have not released their name at this time, the sheriff said. Multiple EMS vehicles were sent to the scene at 1200 18th Street, according to public safety radio traffic. Federal agents from the FBI and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) also said they were on the ground. Perry High School belongs to the Perry Community School District, about 25 miles northwest of Des Moines. About 1,785 students are enrolled in the school district, according to its website. Thursday was the first day of school after the winter break, according to the school's calendar. "Our hearts are broken by this senseless tragedy. Our prayers are with the students, teachers & families of the Perry Community," Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds said in a statement. "I have been in contact with law enforcement agencies & am continuing to monitor the situation. I will be joining their press conference today." https://www.theepochtimes.com/us/federal-judge-dismisses-trump-ballot-disqualification-case-with-prejudice-5558227?utm_source=partner&utm_campaign=BonginoReport Federal Judge Dismisses Trump Ballot Disqualification Case ‘With Prejudice’ A federal judge in California on Jan. 3 dismissed a lawsuit that sought to keep former President Donald Trump off the 2024 Republican primary ballot in that state. District Judge David Carter granted a motion to dismiss the lawsuit “with prejudice,” which means that it can’t be submitted to the same court again, according to court papers. A plaintiff attempted to argue that they suffered “emotional injury” as a result of the breach of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, while watching the events unfold on television, on the radio, and in various publications. They then argued that the incident caused them “severe emotional distress” and then filed a lawsuit to keep the former president off California’s ballot. However, the judge wrote that because the events occurred “more than two years before the plaintiff” filed suit, it was outside of the two-year statute of limitations. The decision by Judge Carter, a Clinton-appointed jurist who has ruled against President Trump in a separate case, was posted online by former Republican National Committee for California Chair Harmeet Dhillon. “The remnants of the last California case to keep President Trump off the ballot here were dismissed today by Judge David O. Carter!!” she wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Jan. 3. In recent days and weeks, a number of lawsuits have been filed in different states seeking to bar President Trump from appearing on the ballot ahead of the 2024 election. Those suits have claimed that the former president engaged in “insurrection or rebellion” against the United States under an interpretation of the Constitution’s 14th Amendment’s Section 3, which was written in the immediate aftermath of the U.S. Civil War. At least two of those challenges have seen some success in Maine and Colorado, although there has been widespread speculation that higher courts or even the U.S. Supreme Court will strike those rulings down. Days before Christmas, Colorado’s highest court ruled to keep the former president off the primary ballot in the state, which was promptly appealed to the Supreme Court. Last week, Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows, a Democrat, unilaterally decided to keep President Trump off the ballot, which also has been appealed. Ahead of the Supreme Court appeal, Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said that “unsurprisingly, the all-Democrat-appointed Colorado Supreme Court has ruled against President Trump, supporting a Soros-funded, left-wing group’s scheme to interfere in an election on behalf of Crooked Joe Biden by removing President Trump’s name from the ballot and eliminating the rights of Colorado voters to vote for the candidate of their choice.” Legal analysts have suggested that the U.S. Supreme Court would take up those two cases and likely would rule against the plaintiffs at least on procedural grounds. However, it isn’t clear whether the court will take up the more thorny questions presented under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause. “It seems a certainty that SCOTUS will have to address the merits sooner or later,” Rick Hasen, a law professor at the University of California–Los Angeles, wrote on his website last month, referring to the Supreme Court. Several other federal judges have also dismissed attempts to block the former president from appearing on ballots. In a ruling issued in late December 2023, U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema wrote that the plaintiffs—two activists—who filed suit against President Trump in Virginia to keep him on that state’s ballot lacked standing. https://hotair.com/jazz-shaw/2024/01/03/trans-murderer-sent-to-womens-prison-n602445 Trans Murderer Sent to Women's Prison In 2012 and 2013, a man named Steven Buchanan murdered two handymen he had hired to do some labor around his farm in Oregon. After killing them, he fed their corpses to his pigs. He was eventually discovered and arrested for the crimes. In 2015 he was convicted, with the judge telling him that he was “a cold-blooded killer” who “valued pigs more than you value human life.” Buchanan was sentenced to fifty years in prison. But then things reportedly took a turn for the strange. The killer was no longer Steven Buchanan. Instead, he was “Susan Monica,” claiming to be a transgender woman. As our colleague Madeline Lessman reports this week at Townhall, Monica nee Buchanan is now being housed at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, a women’s prison located in Wilsonville, Oregon. A “transgender” biological male who was convicted of murdering two men is serving a 50-year sentence in a women’s prison, according to a report from Reduxx. The prisoner, Steven Buchanan, who goes by “Susan Monica,” dismembered the bodies of his victims and fed them to pigs on a 20-acre farm he owned in Oregon, Reduxx noted. Buchanan bought the farm in 1991 and killed two handymen in 2012 and 2013. In 2015, he was reportedly sentenced to a minimum of 50 years behind bars. “You shot two people and fed them to your pigs,” Judge Tim Barnack told Buchanan during sentencing. “I don’t know how else I can put it. You valued pigs more than you value people. It may sound harsh, but you are a cold-blooded killer.” By this time, we’ve covered enough of these transgender prisoner stories that you should have already noticed a pattern emerging. There are men behaving badly who never seemed to have any problem living as men. Then, why they are facing the possibility of a long stretch in the Crowbar Motel, they suddenly “realize” that they are actually women trapped in men’s bodies and they demand special accommodations. And if they live in a blue state on the West Coast, those demands are almost always met. If the details of those two killings don’t do enough to send chills down your spine and make you realize how dangerous this guy almost certainly is (even at the age of 75), there is more. During court proceedings, the lead detective in the case told the judge that Buchanan had said he was worried that if police found “the other seventeen” bodies on his farm, he might never get out of jail. Police searched and did some digging, but additional bodies were not located. That doesn’t mean they’re not there, though. This guy is a certifiable lunatic who told the police “I do not value human life very much.” This is the sort of person we’re putting in a women’s prison? I’m sure some of the actual females at Coffee Creek Correctional Facility did some bad things to wind up there, though hopefully not involving feeding body parts to swine. But do they deserve to be exposed to a proven homicidal maniac who is pretending to be a woman? Townhall has been covering stories like this for a while and it never seems to end well. One trans inmate in New Jersey wound up impregnating two female inmates. (His own mother said that the trans thing was a scam allowing him access to women.) Another inmate was sexually assaulted by a trans inmate.. https://www.breitbart.com/europe/2024/01/03/sweden-records-coldest-january-evening-in-25-years/ Sweden Records Coldest January Evening in 25 Years Europe experienced stark weather contrasts on Wednesday, with extreme cold and snowstorms disrupting transportation and closing schools in Scandinavia while strong winds and heavy rain in western Europe caused flooding and at least one death. Temperatures fell below minus 40 degrees Celsius (minus 40 degrees Fahrenheit) in the Nordic region for a second day in a row Wednesday. In Kvikkjokk-Årrenjarka in Swedish Lapland, the mercury dropped to minus 43.6 C (minus 46.5 F), the lowest January temperature recorded in Sweden in 25 years, Sweden’s TT news agency reported. Extremely cold temperatures, snow and gale-force winds disrupted transportation throughout the Nordic region, with several bridges closed and some train and ferry services suspended. Several schools in Scandinavia were closed. Police across most of Denmark urged motorists to avoid unnecessary trips as wind and snow battered the northern and western parts of the country. Mild but wet and windy conditions prevailed further south, where a storm wreaked havoc in parts of western Europe. In Britain, a driver died after a tree fell on his car in western England. Gloucestershire Police said the man died in the incident near the town of Kemble on Tuesday afternoon. The storm, which has been named Henk by the official weather services of Britain, Ireland and the Netherlands, has caused power cuts, transport troubles, property damage and disruption across the U.K. More than 300 flood warnings were in place across England and Wales on Wednesday, while 10,000 homes remained without power. A severe flood alert, meaning a danger to life, was announced for the River Nene in Northampton in central England. Several residents were evacuated from houseboats and caravans at the nearby Billing Aquadrome. The U.K.’s rail network was hit by flooding and power cuts, with many operators reporting ongoing issues for the Wednesday morning commute into work. The strongest gales in the U.K. were recorded on the Isle of Wight, just off the coast in southern England, where wind speeds reached 94 miles per hour (151 kilometers per hour). In the Netherlands, police near the city of Eindhoven said strong winds may have played a role in the death of a 75-year-old man who fell off his bicycle late Tuesday as high winds lashed much of the country. Parts of Germany were also grappling with flooding, which could be aggravated by more rain falling in the worst-affected northwestern state of Lower Saxony. https://www.boundingintosports.com/2024/01/aaron-rodgers-says-jimmy-kimmel-is-worried-about-the-jeffrey-epstein-files-suggests-nfl-is-rigged/ Aaron Rodgers Says Jimmy Kimmel Is Worried About The Jeffrey Epstein Files, Suggests NFL Is Rigged If you thought New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers had any designs on pulling back on his opinions in the new year, think again. During an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show, the 40-year-old future NFL Hall of Famer suggested late-night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel might be nervous about the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files. Oh, and he also floated the idea that the NFL is rigged. Aaron Rodgers kicked off a segment with the host by embracing a conspiracy theory that the Super Bowl logo features the colors of the teams that eventually end up playing in the game. An X post by NFL Memes in September included an image that explained the theory and showed recent examples. The group also predicted that based on this theory, the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers would be facing each other in Super Bowl LVIII. “If the Super Bowl Baltimore and San Fran, I’ll tell you what, that Super Bowl 59 emblem better have Jet green on it,” Rodgers said. “I know you’ve seen that one … that’s a real interesting one,” Rodgers said of the conspiracy theory. https://twitter.com/i/status/1742256969883492467 - Play Video

The EMO exhibition in Hannover has finally arrived. From the 18th to the 23rd of September, the world of manufacturing will descend upon the German state of Lower Saxony for what promises to be a very welcome return for the show after a four-year hiatus. As Europe's most prominent machine tool exhibition, the bi-annual event will open its doors under the motto ‘Innovate Manufacturing' and more than 1,750 exhibitors from 42 countries will be presenting their latest innovations, strategies and solutions that stretch the full spectrum of business, connectivity and sustainability topics in the production engineering arena.  Show organisers VDW embarked on a ‘world tour' throughout the summer to emphasise both the relevance and importance of the exhibition to the global manufacturing industry. When the touring party hit the UK in May, Dr Wilfried Schafer, the Executive Director of EMO organiser VDW (German Machine Tool Builders Association) was keen to emphasise the importance of the show on the world platform and how the technology could have a positive impact for UK manufacturers.  As the world's leading trade fair for production technology, the international event claims to think way outside the box in both social and technological terms. To this end, EMO Hannover is focusing especially on the megatrend of sustainability – a topic that is of particular importance globally. Alongside the optimisation of numerous organisational processes, the complete machining of components is one of the main technological solutions for making production more efficient and consequently more sustainable. Under the ‘Future of Sustainability in Production' banner and on the joint stand of the same name, EMO Hannover 2023 is dedicating itself to the topic of sustainability as a task that society as a whole needs to address. Climate, environmental targets and the scarcity of certain raw materials are now making a rethink necessary – and all will be discussed in the ‘Future of Sustainability in Production' trend topic at EMO. Based on the current production technology methods, the manufacture of steel, aluminium, plastics and cement alone would generate about 800 gigatons of CO2 in the 21st century, calculates Prof. Dr Holger Kohl, Deputy Director and Head of the Corporate Management business unit at the Fraunhofer-IPK (Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology), Berlin. This would mean that the two-degree target of the Paris climate agreement would already have been missed. That is why it is so important for such materials to be recycled in some kind of circular economy, emphasizes Kohl, who is also a member of the German Academic Association for Production Technology (WGP).  As a rule, machine tools are already designed to give many years of trouble-free profitable operation. However, in the case of lathes. milling or grinding machines, the following also applies: “The amount of time it takes for the precision and reliability levels to diminish depends on the basic design of the machine, how heavily it is used and how well it is maintained,” explains Paul Kössl, Global Head of Business and Marketing at the international United Grinding Group, headquartered in Switzerland, which will be showcasing various brands at EMO.  Of course, EMO isn't all about sustainability – but it is becoming increasingly prevalent. If you're making a trip to the show from the UK, you need it to be justifiable to your business - and this is why process optimisation and productivity will be on the lips of most exhibitors and visitors alike at the biannual tradeshow. Most precision tool specialists and manufacturers of grinding and machining centres are very familiar with process optimisation. So, at EMO industrial and scientific experts will be showing which manufacturing technologies are available for the complete production of even highly complex components via a complete programme of seminars.  In Hannover, visitors will be treated to practical presentations on a huge variety of technically optimised processing possibilities that are aimed at making production more sustainable and profitable. Around 30 member companies of the VDMA Precision Tools and VDMA Measuring and Testing Technology have registered to deliver presentations at EMO on the topics of machining, clamping technology, measuring and testing technology, OPC UA and digitisation. So, if you are heading over to Hannover this month, it may be worth taking in some of the technical presentations as well as seeing the almost endless range of innovative new technologies.

After the horrific role played by the German military in the Holocaust, arguably the last place you would expect to find a Jew would be in the German Armed Forces. And yet it is estimated that today there are around 300 practising Jewish military personnel, and since 2021 they have had their own chaplain, the first chief rabbi – and the first non-Christian - in nearly 90 years. With the help of serving personnel and the head of the military rabbinate, Shelly Kupferberg explores what it means to be Jewish in today's German armed forces. Shelly also hears from Michael Fürst, the very first Jew to sign up after World War Two, who is now the president of the association of Jewish communities of Lower Saxony.

As of Sunday, the city had 50,000 migrants in its care, including in local hotels and temporary shelters, and 49,700 local homeless residents, NBC4 reported. The influx of migrants crossing the southern border illegally has led to more migrants arriving in the Big Apple, some of whom have been bused in by Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott. The city has turned the historic Roosevelt Hotel, which closed three years ago, into a migrant shelter. “My heart breaks a little bit, and I have these conflicting feelings,” Deputy Mayor Anne Williams-Isom said during a tour of the hotel, according to NBC4. Democratic New York City Mayor Eric Adams has floated asking his residents to help shelter migrants in their homes, he said in early June. “It is my vision to take the next step to this, to go to the faith-based locales and then move to private residents, there are residents who are suffering right now because of economic challenges,” Adams said at the time. “They have spare rooms, they have locales and if we can find a way to get over the 30-day rule and other rules that government has in its place, we can take that $4.2 billion, $4.3 maybe now, that we potentially will have to spend, and we can put it back in the pockets of everyday New Yorkers, everyday houses of worship, instead of putting it in the pockets of corporations,” Adams added. Adams has also taken matters into his own hands by busing some of the arriving migrants to New York suburbs, including an area near the northern border, where the Daily Caller News Foundation previously observed some of them crossing into Canada illegally. Adams has also transported dozens of migrants to Republican-run states, like Florida and Texas, South America and one to China, Politico reported Friday. Adams’ office didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. https://dailycaller.com/2023/06/26/fox-news-fires-remaining-tucker-staffers/ Fox News Fires Remaining Tucker Staffers In Show’s Final Stroke Fox News has fired the remaining staffers from Tucker Carlson’s show as the network announces a new primetime lineup, Daily Caller confirmed Monday. The network let go of at least nine remaining staffers, including long-standing producers, in a move described as “shockingly callous” by one former Fox News producer who spoke to the Daily Caller. “Some of the producers fired have been at Fox for well over a decade,” the producer told the Daily Caller. Another former Fox producer told the Daily Caller that staffers on Carlson’s team were repeatedly told following his departure that their jobs were safe, including as recently as last week when two of Carlson’s producers left the network. The remaining staffers were told they could apply for any jobs throughout the company, the former producer told the Daily Caller, noting that employees who once staffed Bill O’Reilly and Dan Bongino’s show were simply reassigned on other shows after both hosts left the network. Staffers told the former producer the terminations were clearly an “anti-Tucker move to purge any of his remaining stamp he had on the network as Fox begins this new lineup change.” The news comes after Fox News announced that Jesse Watters will replace Carlson in the 8:00 p.m. time slot. Watters, who originally started his career at the 8:00 p.m. time slot hosting a Man on the Street segment during Bill O’Reilly’s program, is slated to take over the hour, Fox News said in a press release. Laura Ingraham will take over Watters’ 7:00 p.m. time slot while Greg Gutfeld will move his show to the 10:00 p.m. time slot. Sean Hannity will remain in his 9:00 p.m. slot. Fox announced in late April it was parting ways with Carlson just days after the network announced it was also parting ways with Dan Bongino. Carlson has since started hosting his own show on Twitter, prompting a public legal battle between Fox News and the Daily Caller co-founder. Fox News issued a “cease and desist” to Carlson in mid-June after accusing him of breaching his contract by violating its non-compete clause when he posted the first episode of his show on Twitter. https://www.npr.org/2023/06/27/1149982782/julian-sands-dead-a-room-with-a-view Actor Julian Sands found dead in California after going missing on hike The San Bernardino County Sheriff's office has confirmed the death of Julian Sands after human remains were found on Southern California's Mount Baldy. He was 65 years old. He was hiking Mount Baldy when his family reported him missing on January 13, 2023. Sands had a wide and varied career but was best known for his role in the 1985 movie A Room with a View, starring opposite Helena Bonham Carter. Sands learned acting at the Central School of Speech and Drama in London. In A Room with a View, he played George Emerson, a love interest to the young upper-class Lucy Honeychurch, played by Carter. In 1986, he told NPR in an interview that he was well aware of the class dynamics at play in the movie. "Nobody's actually seen to do anything other than live some leisurely life which allows them to pursue their own indulgences," he said. Sands' acting career brought him an eclectic array of roles. His film credits include Arachnophobia, Leaving Las Vegas, and the Jackie Chan movie The Medallion. On TV, he appeared in small roles on shows such as Castle, Smallville and Dexter. In Season 5 of the action drama 24, he played the main villain Vladimir Bierko, a terrorist in possession of a deadly nerve gas. He loved the outdoors. In a 2020 interview with The Guardian, he was asked when he was happiest. His answer was: "Close to a mountain summit on a glorious cold morning." Now in entertainment news… https://boundingintocomics.com/2023/06/26/the-flash-collapses-in-its-second-weekend-at-the-box-office-with-massive-72-drop-analyst-predicts-film-will-lose-at-least-150-million/ ‘The Flash’ Collapses In Its Second Weekend At The Box Office With Massive 72% Drop, Analyst Predicts Film Will Lose At Least $150 Million Ezra Miller’s The Flash completely collapsed at the box office with an enormous 72% drop from its opening weekend. The Flash had a long row to hoe after it’s extremely poor opening weekend of $55 million at the domestic box office. And it does not look like it’s going to be reaping anything but losses following its second weekend collapse of 72%. The-Numbers reports the film only grossed $15.2 million in its second weekend despite adding another 22 more theaters compared to its first weekend. The per theater gross declined from $13,000 in its opening weekend to $3,587 in its second weekend. The film’s second weekend much like its first underperformed predictions. Box office tracking website Box Office Pro predicted the film would have a 69% drop and bring in $17.3 million. The-Numbers predicted the film would only have a 59% decline and would bring in $22.5 million. Comparing the film to other DCEU films, The Flash is one of the worst performing films as it stands right now. The only films it’s outperformed at the worldwide box office are Birds of Prey, The Suicide Squad, Wonder Woman 1984, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Following this second weekend, box office analyst OMB Reviews predicts The Flash will only bring in a total gross between $300 million to $400 million worldwide in its entire theatrical run. However, he goes on to note, “roughly between $300 and $350 million dollars if the film performs as a typical bad movie.” That means it will likely stay in the same position it is on the DCEU list given Shazam! grossed $363.5 million and Black Adam brought in $391.2 million. OMB Reviews then points to the reported cost of the film being between $200 million and $220 million. He notes this means the film will likely lose around $150 million due to his estimated predictions that the film’s total cost with marketing is approximately $330 million. Factoring in the film’s split with theaters, he predicts the film’s break even point is $550 million. Thus if the film performs at the top of his estimates at $400 million, it would lose $150 million.

Now in entertainment news… https://boundingintocomics.com/2023/06/26/the-flash-collapses-in-its-second-weekend-at-the-box-office-with-massive-72-drop-analyst-predicts-film-will-lose-at-least-150-million/ ‘The Flash’ Collapses In Its Second Weekend At The Box Office With Massive 72% Drop, Analyst Predicts Film Will Lose At Least $150 Million Ezra Miller’s The Flash completely collapsed at the box office with an enormous 72% drop from its opening weekend.

His research is situated at the intersection of several fields in the social space including, politics, human rights, and postcolonialism. His practice is centered around concepts of design and its history as a form of social and political expression. He works with painting, drawing, collage, and printmaking. Through this practice, he tackles relevant questions to our time, to encourage emancipation and new ways of thinking.Anthony White's artwork has been exhibited in Australia, Europe, and Asia. I've been researching and going down the rabbit hole really of things that speak to you at certain points in time. I started noticing the rise of neo-fascism when I did a residency in Leipzig. I noticed that there was just a stronger presence of fascism that seemed to be very present where I was staying in the Lower Saxony region. It's repeated again in the British government, the rhetoric around the hostile environment and the way that asylum seekers are treated. Not just in Britain, but in Australia as well. I think it is a job for artists, not all artists, but I think it's a job for artists to acknowledge that culture can make a difference towards these things and can hold people more accountable."www.anthonywhite.artwww.instagram.com/anthony_white_paris/www.metrogallery.com.au/exhibitions/manifestationwww.creativeprocess.infowww.oneplanetpodcast.orgIG www.instagram.com/creativeprocesspodcast

After Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year, Chancellor Olaf Scholz of Germany told Parliament that the attack was a Zeitenwende — a historic “turning point” for Europe and Germany. The risk of a large land war in Europe had previously been considered far-fetched, but recent years of Russian aggression have inspired fear in Germany and a 100-billion-euro fund to bolster its military.In Germany, skepticism of the merits of military strength has enabled a long post-Cold War process of disarmament. As a result, it is a historic anomaly in the heart of Europe — an economic leviathan but a military minnow. Now German leaders are vowing to transform the country into a military power capable of taking responsibility for Europe's security.In Nienburg, a medieval town in Lower Saxony, civilians come to train for “homeland protection” units in the country's reserves. The question is whether a hesitant German society can follow through on this paradigm shift.“I would say, many of them lean in the direction of being pacifists,” said Anne Katrin Meister, who is training at the base in Nienburg. “But you can only be a pacifist if you have this safe, ideal world. And we don't have such a world.”This story was recorded by Audm. To hear more audio stories from publications like The New York Times, download Audm for iPhone or Android.

The author explains how the search for meaning in the post- Soviet era has given rise to a revival of ancient spiritual traditions and a plethora of new movements. He examines the precursors to these movements in the “Silver Age” (1880-1920) before the Revolution, when alternative forms of spirituality were finding new life as a reaction to the ongoing climate of violence, revolt, and repression. He discusses the impact of the Russian Revolution on spiritual and esoteric groups and shows how their activities were tolerated and even in some instances encouraged--until Stalin assumed power in 1924.Discussing the spiritual reawakening after the fall of communism in 1989, the author explores the survival of Slavic deities and pagan practices in modern Russia, including the indigenous pre-Christian customs of the Mari people and the shamanic traditions of Siberia. He examines the resurgence of the Orthodox Church and the burgeoning of alternative forms of spirituality. He offers a deep look at the controversial Book of Veles, branded by some as a forgery and hailed by others as an epic chronicle of the Slavic people. He also explores the interface between spirituality and the arts and the unique qualities of the Russian language as a medium for the sacred.Revealing the implications of the modern Russian spiritual and esoteric renaissance, McIntosh shows that it still remains to be seen whether Edgar Cayce's prediction of Russia as the hope of the world will come true or if Russia will remain, as Churchill famously stated, “a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma.”Christopher McIntosh is a British-born writer and historian, specializing in the esoteric traditions of the West. He has a doctorate in history from Oxford University, a degree in German from London University, and a diploma in Russian from the United Nations Language School. Show #1525 Good morning, good afternoon, and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily, you trusted source of EV information. It's Friday 8th July, it's Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to. VOLKSWAGEN CEO SAYS EV OUTLOOK IS ‘VERY GOOD,' EXPECTS TO REDUCE DELIVERY TIMES THIS YEAR "The CEO of German automotive giant Volkswagen sought to assuage concerns about electric vehicle sales and semiconductor supplies on Thursday, predicting delivery times for EVs will get shorter as the year progresses." "We're trying to keep delivery times short," Diess said, "but we have a lead time of a year or so currently, so we are ramping up production … five assembly plants are coming into production now. We will see a ramp-up in the second half of the year to really be able to reduce delivery times for our EVs," he added. "There's high demand in Europe and also in the United States."  By the year 2030, VW says it wants at least 70% of its European revenue to come from electric cars. In China and North America, its goal is at least 50% of revenue from EVs." Original Source: https://www.cnbc.com/2022/07/07/volkswagen-ceo-says-ev-outlook-is-very-good.html VOLKSWAGEN ANNOUNCES $20 BILLION EFFORT TO BUILD ITS OWN EV BATTERIES "Volkswagen said it would invest $20.38 billion to build electric vehicle batteries, a move the company says will create 20,000 jobs and generate $20.38 billion in annual sales. The automaker will create a new company called Power Co to oversee the vast effort as VW races to secure enough capacity, materials, and supplies to power its EV ambitions. Power Co will manage VW's entire battery supply chain, from research and development of new technologies to the mining of the raw materials to end-of-life recycling. The news was announced at a groundbreaking ceremony for the company's first battery plant in Salzgitter, a city in Germany's Lower Saxony. “The battery cell business is one of the cornerstones of our New Auto strategy which will make Volkswagen a leading provider of the sustainable, software-driven mobility of tomorrow,” VW CEO Herbert Diess said in a statement. “Establishing our own cell factory is a megaproject in technical and economic terms. It shows that we are bringing the leading-edge technology of the future to Germany!” Original Source: https://www.theverge.com/2022/7/7/23198203/volkswagen-ev-battery-factory-power-co-investment GROUND BREAKING IN SALZGITTER: VOLKSWAGEN ENTERS GLOBAL BATTERY BUSINESS WITH “POWERCO” "Salzgitter is to be a blueprint for cell factories throughout Europe and will set new standards in terms of sustainability and innovation. “What we have put to the test millions of times over with vehicle platforms such as the MQB and MEB will also lay the foundation for establishing cell production: we will be standardizing on the basis of European standards and upscaling. This way, we will combine speed and cost optimization with the highest quality levels“, said PowerCo CEO Frank Blome. Standardization will not only cover equipment, buildings and infrastructure but also products, processes and IT. This way, factories that can rapidly be converted for further product and production innovations will be created. Each factory will be operated 100 percent on electricity from regenerative sources and will be designed for future closed-loop recycling. Volkswagen also unveiled the prismatic unified cell announced at the Power Day in 2021. This allows the flexible use of a raft of different cell chemistries and will be used in up to 80 percent of all Group models. At Salzgitter, unified cells for the volume segment are to be produced from 2025 onwards. In future, the plant is to reach an annual capacity of 40 GWh – enough for about 500,000 electric vehicles. The new unified cell harnesses synergy effects and will reduce battery costs by up to 50 percent. The prototypes produced to date have demonstrated highly promising performance with respect to range, charging times and safety – essential prerequisites for a future industrial standard." Our spies have sent us photos showing different prototypes testing, but this is the first time we are actually able to see one of these test vehicles on the move.   the suspension setup does appear to be considerably stiffer than on lesser versions, so the driving experience should be transformed too. Hyundai has so far not made any performance numbers public, but the Ioniq 5 N will probably have similar power to the EV6 GT, which has 576 horsepower and sprints to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.5 seconds, topping out at 161 mph (260 km/h)." Original Source: https://insideevs.com/news/596854/hyundai-ioniq5-n-hot-version-testing-nurburgring/ EU CLAMPS DOWN ON FAKE PHEV MODELS "Last year, Transport & Environment reported that many PHEV cars for sale in Europe actually use their gasoline engines almost all the time, leading to far more emissions than claimed. The latest data shows that, on average, privately owned PHEVs emit three times more carbon dioxide — and therefore use three times more fuel — than recorded officially. For company cars it is even worse. Plug-in hybrids emit five times more than their official ratings. In theory, a plug-in hybrid has a smallish battery that allows it to travel on electric power alone for 20 miles or so without using the internal combustion engine at all. Beginning in 2025, the EU will significantly reduce the so-called utility factors, which is the share of electric driving that regulators use for calculating CO2 emissions of PHEVs. From 2027, the utility factors of plug-in hybrids will be fully aligned with how they are driven in the real world." The ministry also unveiled measures to encourage trade-ins of older vehicles and support the second-hand market. Last month, Beijing said it was in talks with Chinese EV makers about extending costly subsidies that were set to expire in 2022, aiming to keep a key market growing as the broader economy slows." In addition to increasing fast charger density in its current footprint, EVCS looks to double its network size by 2023. Because its network currently only caters to western states, EVCS has a relatively small presence compared to some of the nationwide charging providers like EVGo and Electrify America. That being said, the company is planning to double its network size by next year and now has the funding in place to get started. The funds will be used to more than double EVCS' network of 600 chargers across the West Coast to 1,500 in the next eighteen months, providing more EV drivers to opportunity to utilize the company's unique unlimited charging subscription model." The nationally representative survey of 8,027 American consumers, which was fielded in late January and February, is the largest national survey sample in the history of CR, the nonprofit consumer research, testing, and advocacy organization. The survey finds 71% of Americans express some level of interest in buying or leasing an electric-only vehicle: 14%  would "definitely" buy or lease one if they were to get a vehicle today, 22% would "seriously consider" one, and 35% "might" consider one. The 14% of American drivers who say they would “definitely” buy or lease an electric-only vehicle is up markedly from the 4% who said the same in a 2020. Nearly half of Americans (46%) are unaware of the incentives available to purchase an EV. The survey was fielded January 27 to February 18, when the national average price for gasoline rose from about $3.34 to $3.52 per gallon. Now the average price is about $4.78, according to AAA. ELECTRIC VW TRINITY TO BE BUILT AT A NEW $2.2-BILLION FACTORY - Volkswagen has announced it has passed a resolution that gives a go-ahead to build a new plant that will build the upcoming all-electric model, the Trinity. The up-and-coming flagship model was first announced in 2021, which will spearhead the next generation of zero-emission VW cars. - The new factory will be built near VW's main plant in Wolfsburg. - VW said investment totals to around €2 billion or around $2.2 billion with the current exchange rates. - Construction for the new Wolfburg plant for the Trinity is set to begin as early as spring 2023. Original Source : https://www.motor1.com/news/571680/volkswagen-2026-trinity-factory-wolfsburg/ VW TO BUILD TRINITY PLANT IN WOLFSBURG - As Manager Magazin now correctly asserts, the “Trinity story is also the story of a power struggle”. According to the report, VW Group CEO Herbert Diess even wanted to get out of Lower Saxony altogether to produce the flagship Trinity project, or at least “outside the brick walls” of the existing Wolfsburg main plant. With his taunts, Diess not only angered the works council but also started a power struggle within the Board. In the end, Diess will now get his plant outside the current plant boundaries, but VW brand chief Ralf Brandstätter, who will soon move to Beijing, is considered the architect behind this solution - Throughout the 2030s, the main plant could then be converted entirely – and Wolfsburg could build up to 750,000 electric cars per year. The car will be aimed at the mass market and targets a range of over 700 km (435 miles). It will be technically ready for Level 4 autonomous driving and will debut VW Group's SSP electric "super platform" that will replace combustion-engine and full-electric platforms used by brands including VW, Skoda, Seat, Audi and Porsche. - VW aims for a production time of 10 hours per vehicle for the Trinity model, similar to how long it will take Tesla to build cars at its new factory in Gruenheide near Berlin. It still needs to obtain an operating licence before production can officially begin, which should take roughly two weeks, a spokesperson for the local government told Insider. - Officials said they expect the plant to begin producing cars this month. Over time, Tesla intends to scale production to 500,000 vehicles per year and employ 12,000 workers at the plant. In 2021, Tesla produced just over 900,000 vehicles between its two facilities in Fremont, California and Shanghai, China. Original Source : https://www.businessinsider.com/tesla-germany-gigafactory-final-approval-2022-3 Tesla Factory in Brandenburg: From Zero to Full Throttle and Back to Zero in 843 Days - on Friday, March 4th, 2022, the authorities in Brandenburg finally approved the project by sending a permit to Tesla. The document reportedly has 536 pages and contains a long list of requirements the company has to fulfill. Once it does, the final operating license will be issued. Of course, this was good news. Tesla announced they would get it done within two weeks. This would have meant they could have started producing those ‘Berlin Model Ys' at the end of this month. Some 2,000 vehicles were already made during test runs. - late on Friday night, The Administrative Court in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany's smaller Frankfurt located at the Polish border, found a procedural error which has implications. When Brandenburg's Environment Agency issued a permit for the delivery of millions of tons of additional water for the factory, it forgot to involve the public which had the right to comment on the decision. This process will have to be made up for. Obviously, both the inhabitants in the area and Tesla need water. The factory will use 1.4 million cubic meters (50 million cubic feet) of it per year. - For now, Brandenburg has the option to suspend the implementation of the court decision until the matter is resolved. That way, a long delay could be prevented, at least in part. It gave the XC40 Recharge a subtle mid-cycle update that brings a new-look front end, among other changes, and it unveiled an entry-level version of the C40 Recharge with one electric motor. - the lower part of the front bumper is more chiseled, the Thor's Hammer accents in the headlights are more, well, hammer-like, and the body-colored insert that replaces the gasoline-burning model's grille loses its frame. These changes bring the battery-powered crossover in line with the C40 Recharge - XC40 Recharge models also gain pixel LED lighting technology. This system relies on individually-controlled LED elements to illuminate the road ahead without blinding other motorists - Moving on to the C40 Recharge, a front-wheel-drive version with a single electric motor is now available in some markets as a cheaper alternative to the dual-motor all-wheel-drive model. It's fitted with a 69-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, and it offers a maximum driving range of about 270 miles - the existing dual-motor C40 Recharge is equipped with a 78-kilowatt-hour battery and its powertrain is rated at 402 horsepower Original Source : https://www.autoblog.com/2022/03/04/volvo-xc40-recharge-design-updates-c40-single-motor/?ncid=edlinkusauto00000015 NIO ET7 TEST DRIVES OFFICIALLY BEGIN, FIRST DELIVERIES EXPECTED ON MARCH 28 Original Source : https://cnevpost.com/2022/03/05/nio-et7-test-drives-officially-begin-first-deliveries-expected-on-march-28 THE NIO ET7 HAS 621 MILES OF RANGE AND ALL THE BATTERY Original Source : https://www.topgear.com/car-news/electric/nio-et7-has-621-miles-range-and-all-battery PEUGEOT E-208 AND E-2008 CHOSEN AS THE FIRST EVS TO JOIN THE AA DRIVING SCHOOL'S FLEET Original Source : https://electriccarsreport.com/2022/03/peugeot-e-208-and-e-2008-chosen-as-the-first-evs-to-join-the-aa-driving-schools-fleet/ QUESTION OF THE WEEK WITH EMOBILITYNORWAY.COM What's the best looking EV on the market right now? As per the communication, Tesla is now poised to start camera retrofits for its older cars, which would allow Model S and Model X vehicles with FSD to access the full suite of features currently offered by the company. - A screenshot of the communication has been shared online, and it reads as follows: “As an owner with Full Self-Driving Capability and early production cameras, you are eligible for complimentary Autopilot Camera Upgrade. Camera replacements are required to access a continuously expanding suite of Full Self-Driving Capability features. To arrange your complimentary camera replacements, schedule a new appointment from the Service menu in your Tesla App,” the message read. - Tesla also updated its official webpage for its Full Self-Driving Computer Installations. A new section titled “Camera Replacements” has now been added to the page. The section outlines which customers are eligible for the retrofit, when the service will be available, which camera units will be replaced, how long the hardware update would take, and how early FSD adopters could schedule an appointment for the Autopilot Camera Upgrade. The first pre-series vehicles of the ID.4 are already being produced in the body shop, the paint shop and soon in assembly. Volume production is scheduled to start in spring 2022. - the final decision to build MEB vehicles in Emden from 2022 onwards was taken in summer 2019. The conversion work started in July 2020 – parallel to the production of the Passat. In May, VW announced that the conversion work was still on schedule. - The ID.4 is to be built in Emden first, followed by two more MEB models from 2023 – a Passat-sized saloon and the accompanying estate. According to VW, a total of six additional production halls and logistics buildings will have been built on the 4,300,000 square metre factory site by then. And now that day has come, as the bike begins serial production at the company's Berlin Motorrad plant. The CE 04 falls somewhere between a maxiscooter and a light electric motorcycle. The peak-rated 31 kW (42 hp) frame-mounted electric motor puts it in the same power class as several electric motorcycles from leading manufacturers. - Pushed to the max, the CE 04 is rated for a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). - The internal battery in the higher spec model provides 8.9 kWh of capacity and is rated for up to 130 km (81 miles) of range. - the CE 04 will start at USD $11,795. Yet of the retail reservation-holders in that crowd, a recent survey suggested that nearly 80% have never owned a battery electric vehicle before. - Ford is launching an augmented reality (AR) experience that it says “will offer these knowledge-hungry customers an immersive, informative experience on the all-new F-150 Lightning.” - it's powered by Google Cloud and takes the form of thirteen interactive animations about everything from the frunk and battery range to charging—and the ProPower Onboard power takeoff plus, perhaps, the Lightning's potential as home power backup. Visitors also have the ability to select a color and trim—base, XLT, Lariat, and Platinum—for the truck and place it “anywhere in their own environment,” - Ford also says that its survey results suggest that 56% of F-150 Lightning reservation-holders haven't ever owned a Ford vehicle.  Original Source : https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1134108_most-f-150-lightning-intenders-are-ev-newbies-so-ford-is-helping-them-get-ready-with-ar GAC AION MODEL FIRST IN CHINA  WITH 1,000 KM RANGE - Longer range is the quest of electric vehicle (EV) companies, and now GAC Aion brings the competition to 1,000 kilometers. The Aion LX Plus from GAC's new energy vehicle subsidiary recently made it to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) product announcement in China with a 144.4 kWh battery pack, an energy density of 205 Wh/kg, and an impressive NEDC range of 1,008 km. - Entering the MIIT product announcement is the last major regulatory process for a model to become available in China, meaning local consumers are only a few months away from having an EV with a range of over 1,000 km. - The Aion LX Plus is an upgraded version of the currently available Aion LX, with a length, width and height of 4,835/1,935/1,658mm, a permanent magnet synchronous motor with 180 kW of power and a top speed of 170 km/h. - The Aion LX Plus is expected to be unveiled during the Guangzhou Auto Show on November 19, and its price information is currently unknown. One day, after the Saxons won one of the many battles in the Saxon Wars, Charlemagne, who was pretty annoyed, ordered the mass execution of 4,500 warriors.  This didn't really tarnish his golden reputation until the 18th century, when it began to bother people.  We discuss the Saxons, Charlemagne's reputation, the trouble that the Nazis had in figuring out how to talk about him, and, oddly enough, Christopher Lee and his heavy metal Charlemagne albums.

(日本)京都府宮津一條曾瀕臨廢線的鐵路,憑藉內部裝潢有如咖啡館的觀光慢車,得以續命綿延。 The Tango Aka-Matsu is operated by Kyoto Tango Railway (Tantetsu), whose lines were famously dubbed the symbol of unprofitable train routes in the Heisei Era, which started in 1989. 京都丹後鐵道(簡稱丹鐵)負責營運的「丹後赤松號」觀光列車所行駛的路線,被稱為是始於1989年平成時代的知名不賺錢路線的象徵。 The train, which connects Nishi-Maizuru and Amanohashidate stations, runs at reduced speeds offering scenic views. 這列連接西舞鶴站與天橋立站的觀光列車,以較慢速度行駛,好讓乘客能夠欣賞美景。 Passengers let out cries of delight on a weekend in December as the fully occupied 33-seat train approached Yuragawa Kyoryo bridge over the Yuragawa river. 去年12月的某個週末,當33個座位都坐滿的觀光列車駛向跨越由良川的由良川橋時,車上乘客一陣驚呼。 "It's amazing. In response, TRA director Chang Cheng-yuan announced in April that the company would hold consultations on the design, and that the most vehement detractors would be invited to contribute. 台鐵局今年耗資新台幣七千九百萬元,打造二十九輛環島之星觀光列車,曝光後設計卻遭批評。台鐵局長張政源在今年四月宣布,成立台鐵美學設計諮詢審議小組,「把罵台鐵最凶的統統找來」。由設計師吳漢中為代表,齊聚各界專家,把二十九輛當中尚未施作完工的十三輛列車,邀請在國內外得過許多設計大獎的台灣設計團隊「柏成設計」,導入美學概念重新改造。 Headed by designer Han Wu, the team of consultants brought together experts from various fields, and the award-winning Taiwanese design firm J. C. Architecture was invited to undertake an aesthetic makeover, designing the 13 cars yet to be converted. Unveiled on Friday, the newly designed TRA Tour Train sports a black and orange exterior, imparting an air of gravitas to its new look. Redundant signs distracting from the minimalist interior design were removed, and soft lighting was introduced to create a comfortable, relaxing ambience, to give passengers the impression of being in a hotel. 新設計的台鐵觀光列車上週五亮相,外觀改用尊榮感十足的黑、橘色,內裝採減法設計,去掉多餘的指標,燈光使用溫和的色溫,讓旅客有如進到飯店的舒適氛圍。 The curtains in the carriages are based on the works of Yuma Taru, an aboriginal craftswoman, employing geometric shapes suggestive of mountains, while the upholstery utilizes blues and grays, a reference to Taiwan's oceans, rocks and mountains. The overall effect goes beyond that of a simple means of transportation, and now has more of an emotional impact. 車廂中的窗簾,是參考原住民工藝家尤瑪.達陸的作品,以幾何圖形堆疊出山脈造型;座椅顏色為藍、灰色,象徵台灣的海洋、石頭與山,讓火車不再只是生硬的交通工具,同時也富有情感。 Commenting on why black and orange were chosen for the exterior, Nora Wang, co-founder of J. C. Architecture, says that black imparts a sense of mystery and sobriety, and that old photos of TRA train carriages show that black was widely used for train exteriors in the past. The orange, meanwhile, is a reference to the Chu Kuang Express train designs. The tour train's black and orange theme is therefore a link to railway history, reinvented from and recombining older design elements. 列車外觀使用黑、橘二色,柏成設計合夥創辦人王菱檥表示,黑色具有神秘的尊榮感,尤其觀察過往台鐵車體照片時,發現有一段時期大量採用黑色設計,因此激盪出新的想法。經典橘色則是延續莒光號原有的橘,保有車輛的歷史,將舊元素重新組合,迸出新的設計火花。 Wang's favorite design is the bar counter area, reminiscent of a hotel reception, featuring a small lamp on the dining table, giving boarding passengers the impression they are entering a hotel. Passengers get to experience the hotel-like service, too, reclining in the train's parlor car accompanied by friends and family, leisurely sipping coffee. The windows offer magnificent ocean views to the east and vistas of rice paddies and mountains to the west. 有如飯店接待大廳的吧台區是王菱檥最喜愛的設計,餐桌台上放了一盞小燈,當旅客踏上這輛觀光列車時,感覺就像是踏進飯店一樣。跟親朋好友坐在客廳車,悠閒喝著咖啡,從觀景窗往外望,東邊有海岸線壯闊海景,西邊則有稻穗、山脈,帶給大家有如旅館式的服務體驗。 Wang says, “The TRA train is not just a means of transportation, it is a starting point for a journey.” She hopes that the TRA Tour Train will help promote rail travel in Taiwan. Tour trains in countries such as Japan and Italy attract visitors from all over the world every year, and Wang believes Taiwan has the potential to be like this. “Taiwan's landscape is so beautiful,” she says, and “some scenery can only be seen from the train.” 王菱檥說:「台鐵不只是交通工具,而是旅遊的起始點。」她希望未來可帶動民眾搭乘火車在島內旅遊的風氣,放眼各國的觀光列車如日本、義大利等,每年吸引全球民眾到訪,「相信台灣有這方面的潛力,台灣景觀太美了,有些景色只有坐火車才看得到」。 Source article: http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/lang/archives/2019/12/17/2003727649/2   Next Article   Topic: The hydrogen, or hydrail, train is set to run in Lower Saxony starting in December 2017.   氫動力火車,或稱「hydrail」,2017年12月將在德國西北部的下薩克森邦上路。 The train - called the "Coradia iLint" - has been developed over the past two years by French company Alstom. 這種火車稱為「柯納狄亞」,由法國「阿斯頓」公司耗時2年開發。 The hydrogen train operates using a hydrogen fuel tank, stored on the roof of the train, that in turn powers a fuel cell to produce electrical energy. This technology provides a new environmentally friendly alternative to the diesel trains that are still used across much of Germany. 這種氫動力火車的動力來自位於車頂的氫氣箱,可驅動燃料電池產生電力。這項技術為德國許多地區仍在使用的柴油火車提供新的環保替代選擇。 Engineers have been developing ‘hydrail' technology for the last 15 years, but mostly with freight trains. 工程師研發氫動力火車技術已有15年之久,但主要用途多限於貨運。 The new Alstom train will be the first hydrogen passenger train to regularly operate on long-distance journeys. 阿斯頓公司的新火車將是第一種固定長途行駛的氫動力客運火車。 With a full tank, the new locomotive will be able to travel 600 to 800 kilometers. 一旦氫氣箱滿載,這種新式火車頭將可行駛600至800公里。 Because of its much larger fuel capacity, the train does not have to confront the same problems that hydro-cars face with refueling. Another advantage is its quietness: even at its top speed of 140 km/h, the only noise is that produced by the motion of the wheels and air resistance. 由於具備更大燃料儲載,氫動力火車可免於以往氫氣車輛必須經常充電的老問題。另外一個優點則是安靜:即便是以每小時140公里的極速行駛,也只有車輪運動與空氣阻力產生的噪音。 Source article: http://iservice.ltn.com.tw/Service/english/english.php?engno=1038108&day=2016-10-03 ; https://features.ltn.com.tw/english/article/paper/1322516 ; https://features.ltn.com.tw/english/article/paper/1452760;

Recent reports from Pyongyang have hinted at an intensified effort to root out foreign fashion, slang and media in North Korea. Its regime has repeatedly punished people who smuggle in DVDs of South Korean TV and film dramas, but the penalties are now even harsher. Laura Bicker reports from Seoul on the risks for North Koreans who try to break their isolation, whether by consuming forbidden culture or even escaping the country themselves. As Joe Biden meets other world leaders at the G7 summit in Cornwall, there are still many Americans who aren't yet convinced he is the legitimate President of the United States. Gabriel Gatehouse has been to Texas, where he attended a QAnon gathering. Press freedom in Pakistan is a touchy issue - and more so now after a string of incidents where reporters have been physically attacked. Secunder Kermani analyses where the 'red lines' lie for broadcast media, and the allegations that the country's security services have been directly pressuring journalists. Turkey's Sea of Marmara is enduring a mucilaginous ordeal - as a slimy, choking layer of so-called "sea snot" smothers its shores. It's a catastrophe for local fishing villages; President Erdogan has launched a clean-up this week. Neyran Elden of the BBC Turkish Service happens to be an experienced scuba diver - so she suited up to go beneath the surface and take a look at the sea bed. What she saw wasn't pretty. Citizens of EU countries in the UK are being strongly encouraged to sort out their residency status before the end of this month. For British citizens living abroad, the experience of getting their own paperwork has varied by country. Luke Tuddenham recently had a surprising brush with bureaucracy in Lower Saxony in Germany. The museum is comprised of the original buildings of the former border crossing point, which include the original rooms, such as the passport checking rooms and the detention cell, as well the Borderland Trail, a circular hiking path with originally preserved border fortifications. The exhibitions are along the former death strip, today's “Green Belt,” and deal with different aspects of the German division, focusing on the GDR border regime and the everyday life of East and West Germans living in the border area, as well as the Peaceful Revolution and the border opening (“Fall of the wall”) in 1989. While visiting the museum in person is most definitely recommended, check out the museum's impressive virtual reality tour.

Imagine a people, passing through the crucible of slavery, for hundreds of years, until the first people in your new lineage are often lost in time – because slaves have no more families or histories any more than cattle or sheep do – and coming out the other side, proud, shining, and triumphant.  Imagine using that experience to lay the foundations of music that became the soundtrack within the lives of billions of people around the world.  In the wake of so much devastation, the sounds of faith, love, dignity and freedom were heard and shared until they echoed the world over.  Many times, they were there to drown out more modern pains, and were used to inspire other people to face new adversities.  It started with African Spirituals, and those Spirituals gradually became Gospel Music.  This is a music that has given people a sense of holy urgency and righteousness all over the world.  The Christians that created this music believed with everything they had in them that it was ‘the holy spirit' that gave them the authority.  This was not performance.  This was leadership.PS.  My sincerest thanks to all of you repeat listeners out there in the following cities.  Your interests in what I'm doing makes this so rewarding!·       As Sulaymānīyah, As Sulaymānīyah·       Atlanta, GA·       Austin, TX·       Birmingham, Al·       Centennial, CO·       Charlotte, NC·       Chatillon, Ile-d-France·       Clermont, FL·       Clinchy, Ile-de-France·       Columbus, OH·       Compton, CA·       Cordoba, Andalusia·       Dallas, TX ·       Dusseldorf, N Rhine-Westpghalia·       Fruitland, ID·       Hough, OH·       Hyderabad, Telangana·       Islington, England·       Lake Stevens, WA·       Lanham-Seabrook, MD·       Lillenthal, Lower Saxony·       Los Angeles·       Maidenhead, England·       Manhattan, NY·       Munster, North Rhine-Westphalia·       Olympia, WA·       Osaka, Japan·       Placentia, CA·       Reno, NV·       San Antonio, TX·       San Diego, CA·       San Francisco, CA·       Sao Paulo,  Brazil·       Sharjah, UAE·       South Salt Lake, UT·       Tokyo, Japan·       Walsall, England·       Washington, VA·       Yorba Linda, CA Included in this episode:·        Excerpt from Amistad·       Excerpt from Fountain Hughes interview; WPA and John Lomax·       Work Holler·       West Indies Slave Chant - Roger Gibbs (Earliest Recorded Slave Chant from 1775)·       Roll Jordan Roll - From 12 Years a Slave·       Title Unknown - The Singing and Praying Band·       Title Unknown - The McIntosh County Shouters·       Rock My Soul - The Spirit Chorale of Los Ang

In a wide ranging discussion about contextualisation, culture, the gospel, and mission John Flett and Henning Wrogemann detail what can be learnt from (predominately the mistakes) of a century of German mission theology. I was surprised by the manifold ways contemporary language around church, mission, and culture finds its roots in articulations that were developed within and embraced by German National Socialism. The conversation begins with some quick takes on common mission catchphrases and ends with the idea of mission as being - in part - about living together with the stranger. A quick preface, this podcast is being recorded a few days late as I had a winter virus which stopped me working. But for completeness, and for those who catch up weekly, a short podcast with the key headlines.   On today’s podcast: Tesla Model Y Standard Range Deleted EVgo-GM Charging Infrastructure Expansion Is Underway Northvolt plans to expand gigafactory in Poland Europe's Electric Motorcycle Market Surges Daimler to move-up combustion vehicle phase-out? SolarEdge Technologies To Supply EV Powertrain & Battery For Fiat E-Ducato Honda names R&D chief Mibe as new CEO to lead it into an EV future   Show #1000   Good morning, good afternoon and good evening wherever you are in the world, welcome to EV News Daily for Sunday 21st February. It’s Martyn Lee here and I go through every EV story so you don't have to.   Thank you to MYEV.com for helping make this show, they’ve built the first marketplace specifically for Electric Vehicles. It’s a totally free marketplace that simplifies the buying and selling process, and help you learn about EVs along the way too.   So this is podcast 1000, clearly not the show I had planned because I got ill. But we’ll wait a week and celebrate next weekend.   TESLA MODEL Y STANDARD RANGE DELETED Now you see it, now you don't! "Tesla has stopped taking orders for the cheapest version of the Model Y electric SUV and removed it from its online configurator just a month into launching the vehicle. The change comes amid broader pricing and configurator changes that are becoming hard to follow." says electrek: "Last month, Tesla launched a new Model Y Standard Range RWD with 244 miles of range. Along with the removal of the base version of the Model Y, Tesla also reduced the price of the Model Y Long Range AWD by $1,000 to $48,990."   https://electrek.co/2021/02/21/tesla-stops-taking-orders-cheapest-model-y-updates/   EVGO-GM CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE EXPANSION IS UNDERWAY "EVgo has shown a few photos of the construction of the first fast-charging station in partnership with General Motors, announced in Summer 2020. The site is located at Volusia Mall, near Daytona International Speedway in Florida, and as we can see, it will be equipped with multiple individual chargers." says InsideEVs: "According to the agreement, more than 2,700 fast chargers will be installed in the U.S. by 2025. That's about 675 stations (assuming 4 single-plug chargers per site on average)."   https://insideevs.com/news/489504/evgo-gm-charging-infrastructure-expansion-underway/?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=RSS-all-articles   NORTHVOLT PLANS TO EXPAND GIGAFACTORY IN POLAND "The Northvolt manufacturing facility in Gdansk should become Europe’s largest factory for energy storage solutions. The production is scheduled to begin in 2022 with an annual capacity of 5 GWh. The company wants to expand it to 12 GWh." according to PV Magazine: "In addition to the Swedish and Polish gigafactories, Volkswagen and Northvolt are planning a 50-50 joint venture to establish another 16 GWh battery cell factory, with Salzgitter in Lower Saxony,"##   https://www.pv-magazine.com/2021/02/19/northvolt-plans-to-expand-gigafactory-in-poland/   EUROPE'S ELECTRIC MOTORCYCLE MARKET SURGES "IDTechEx expects electric motorcycle sales in Europe to grow at least 50% year-on-year in 2020, building on the momentum of recent years. This is driven by continued policy support from governments alongside start-ups and incumbent OEMs entering the market with new model releases, finds the recent report from IDTechEx" "while the market is growing, the price remains the main hurdle: a motorcycle with a 14kWh battery pack sells for over $15,000 today. The issue is exacerbated by the fact that electric motorcycles have the most appeal to environmentally conscious millennials who tend to have less purchasing power than older generations preferring loud pipes."   https://www.idtechex.com/en/research-article/europes-electric-motorcycle-market-surges-mirroring-electric-cars/23107?rsst2id=3   DAIMLER TO MOVE-UP COMBUSTION VEHICLE PHASE-OUT? "In an interview, Daimler CEO Ola Källenius already hinted that the interim targets for electric vehicles could be revised upwards." reports electrive: "Källenius is, however, running through scenarios in the board of directors, according to which Mercedes could offer only new cars with electric units as early as five or eight years earlier. Until now, the farewell to diesel and petrol was scheduled for 2039."   https://www.electrive.com/2021/02/19/daimler-considers-moving-up-combustion-vehicle-phase-out/   SOLAREDGE TECHNOLOGIES TO SUPPLY EV POWERTRAIN & BATTERY FOR FIAT E-DUCATO "SolarEdge Technologies has announced that it has been chosen to supply the full electric powertrain units and batteries for the production of Fiat’s E-Ducato light commercial vehicle. SolarEdge Chief Executive Officer, Zivi Lando, spoke of the significant moment and how honored SolarEdge is to have been chosen." says CleanTechnica: "The Fiat e-Ducato is a commercial electric vehicle that has the option of a van, a chassis cab, and a “People Mover” van. Ten Voorde's passion for motorsport was ignited early in life. From the age of eight, he spent every spare moment with friends at the go-kart track in Emsbüren, in Lower Saxony. His father Henk drove him there in the morning, and in the evening he returned to his home, the 2,500-strong community of Boekelo near Enschede. From 2007 to 2012, he won eight titles in various karting series. Ten Voorde then switched to single-seater racing with support from the Dutch motorsport association KNAF. Alongside today's Formula 1 driver Max Verstappen, he was part of the “Talent First” squad, and at the same time completed a degree in sports and business communication. Ten Voorde‘s special connection to motor racing was put to the test during the most difficult phase in his career. In 2014 and 2015, financial reasons prevented him from competing. His budding career was in jeopardy, but throwing in the towel was simply not an option. At the Circuit Zandvoort, he cleaned cars, polished rims or sold coffee. He turned laps on the track in his old 1998 VW Polo and he maintained contact to companies and teams through his coaching activities. The effort paid off: In 2016, he made an impressive comeback, promptly winning the Porsche Super Sports Cup at his first attempt. The following year, he took home the rookie title in the Porsche Carrera Cup Deutschland. This season yielded the next milestones: champion in both the Carrera Cup and the international Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup. The talented youngster is well on his way to turning his passion into a professional career. Last season he made his WEC debut in the ca. 510 hp Porsche 911 RSR. Contesting the GTE-Am class, ten Voorde celebrated a victory at Bahrain on the back of clinching second place in Shanghai. He also contested this year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. His next mission: he is poised to tackle the final round of the 2019/2020 World Endurance Championship on 14 November for Project 1. With the Carrera Cup title under his belt, Larry ten Voorde is ready for the next big success.

Which worked out so well for them, through the prism of retrospectivity. To date, Volkswagen has paid more than 30 billion Euros (which is about $50 billion in Shitsvillian micro-pesos) in penalties and settlements for being such fine, outstanding citizens and paragons of global virtue, etc. They dropped their reputation in the sewer, as a consequence of these careful decisions approved at the highest level, which remains a real ‘surprise and delight’ event for a reporter such as me. Imagine how close we’d be to having a therapeutic goods administration-approved zombie-pandemic-curing vaccine with that kind of spare cash to throw at it. Just saying… Like, what can’t you cure or solve, for 30 billion Euros? After five years of carefully thinking this through, a three-judge panel in beautiful downtown Braunschweig in Volkswagen's neck of the woods (Lower Saxony) ruled that car buyers suffered a financial loss when they bought a car without being aware it was equipped with the illegal software. Such a paradox. It’s not like they could have put: “New Golf diesel, now with loss-ensuring illegal code to pump up the toxicity” in the brochure. Not even in the fine print. Epicurus could have had a field day with that, except of course he’s been dead for 2360-ish years... The court in Bratwurst found a (quote) “predominant likelihood” of conviction in the fraud charge. Ze Chermans are quite precise like that. Look at how well they run their railways. It’s amazing. They’re good at predicting the foreseeable future. Just saying. The three wise Cherman judges said four other defendants would face trial on fraud charges connected to aggravated tax evasion and illegal advertising. Dates for a trial are yet to be set. They hate tax evasion. Courts, and governments. Just ask Wesley Snipes. They have no sense of humour whatsoever, on this stuff. To regulators, tax evasion is worse than murder. In the year 1284 CE, a remarkable and colorfully dressed young man came to the town of Hamelin in Lower Saxony, Germany.  There are two documentations of this wanderer’s visit, the originals of which have since been lost.  According to the contemporary Hamelin chronicle and a depiction in a stained glass window in a local church, this handsome stranger began to play his flute through the streets.  Enchanted by the notes, 130 children from the town followed him into the woods, never to be seen again.  In the hundreds of years since the supposedly real event occurred, the most significant addition to the story would be the reason for the mass kidnapping.  After successfully ridding the town of a plague of rats using his musical pipe, the payment the piper was promised was withheld by the mayor and the town leaders.  Furious at his being cheated, the magical visitor took their children as his payment.  This later variation of the narrative we have all come to know as “The Pied Piper of Hamelin.” Today, we may think of this story as a children’s Fairly Tale.  But as the Brothers Grimm had noted themselves, and who are partly responsible for making it known to the world, this is a legend and not a Fairy Tale.  The difference is that legends are considered to be based on actual events, people, and places.  In relation, it’s also said that there is a kernel of truth to every legend.  If that is accurate, then the real Pied Piper event may be far more mysterious and tragic than we could have imagined, either as children or adults.  Visit our website for a lot more information on this episode:  http://www.astonishinglegends.com/2020/2/16/ep-168-the-pied-piper-of-hamelin-part-one (http://www.astonishinglegends.com/al-podcasts/2019/7/14/ep-149-dan-susan-micah-hanks-and-missing-time)

Matt is back from vacation as he and Hank kick off Tales of the Cocktail. We have a great interview with Danny Ronen at 13:00 about the category of Genever. It's something that most people aren't familiar about. Great history and information here.  Then we discuss some big trades in baseball and basketball in the last week.  Thanks for listening!  Today's Guest:  Danny Ronen Founder of DC Spirits; co-owner of the award-winning bar Academia in Austin, Texas; partner at Unlimited Liabilities; and spirits educator and trainer at Liquid Kitchen.   WHAT IS GENEVER?   Genever (pronounced juh-NEE-vuhr) is a complex spirit with a rich history. Every genever is unique, with its own recipe and flavor, and created using artisanal processes. However, by law, all genevers must: contain malt spirit (made from wheat, rye, barley, maize, oat, buckwheat, and/or triticale) and juniper berry be a distilled spirit made from natural ingredients (such as grains and botanicals) ALL GENEVER Amount of malt spirit: min. 1.5% of the alcohol volume Amount of sugar: max. 20 grams per liter Colorings: possible, but only with caramel Flavorings from juniper berries and possibly other botanicals and malt spirit Alcohol percentage: min. 30%   In addition, NEW STYLE GENEVER A younger/newer style that originated more recently with a lower malt spirit content and usually more botanicals Amount of malt spirit: min. 1.5% up to max. 15% Amount of sugar: max. 10 grams per liter Color: none Alcohol percentage: min. 35%   In addition, OLD STYLE GENEVER The old or traditional style, with a more pronounced grain flavor due to more malt spirit Amount of malt spirit: min. 15% up to 100% Amount of sugar: max. 20 grams per liter Color: from light yellow through to darker brown (depending on ageing) Alcohol percentage: min. 35%   Since January 15th 2008, genever (also officially known as jenever and genièvre) has had its own Protected Geographical Indication, meaning that it is geographically protected by the European Union, just like Scotch whisky and Cognac. This gave genever its own ‘appellation,’ and product that carries the name genever can now only be made in Belgium; Holland; the Nord and Pas-de-Calais departments of France; and the North Rhine-Westphalia and Lower Saxony regions of Germany. Genever is considered one of the most versatile and interesting spirits, because:   It offers a variety of flavor that is rarely found in other distilled spirits. It can be rich in botanicals — predominantly juniper but also, for example, coriander and angelica. At the other end of the spectrum it can be full of malt and the dark aroma of years spent in wooden casks. The variance in the balance of juniper, malt spirit, botanicals, distilling, and blending techniques allow an enormous diversity of flavor: from aromatic, zesty, and fresh like gin, to earthy, malty, and rich lie, whiskey. Genevers have been made for more than 500 years, yet the industry remains a source of constant experimentation, and innovation.   Genever has existed since the middle ages and was initially used in a medicinal capacity. Later, it came into fashion for recreational usage in the Lowlands of the Netherlands, and in the 17th century became the country’s national drink.   In the early 19th century, the Dutch began shipping the spirit to the U.S. as there was a large population of ex-patriates living there. This coincided with the increasing popularity of cocktails, and in 1880, approximately one in four cocktails in America were made with genever. Following two world wars and Prohibition, however, though genever remained the national spirit of the Lowlands, it disappeared from the world stage.   Since the beginning of the 21st century classic cocktails have soared in popularity and the demand for genever has returned. The genever category is now growing once again, particularly driven by cocktail bars around the world.

Green is the dominant color in the capital of the state of Lower Saxony. Lake Maschsee and the banks of the Leine river are popular spots for leisure and recreation. That's also true of the Herrenhausen Gardens, dating back to the 17th century.

Johannes Kneifel was a neo-Nazi who was convicted of assault and battery resulting in death. Now, 32 Kneifel says he found God when he was in prison. Today, he has become a pastor and say that everyone deserves a second chance. Join "Talking Germany," for when Kneifel relates the events that caused his conversion from a batterer to a Baptist Minister. Johannes Kneifel was born on July 6, 1982 in the central German town of Celle and grew up in Eschede in Lower Saxony. His father was nearly blind and his mother suffered from multiple sclerosis. Both lost their jobs and had difficulty caring for their three small children. They had little time for the kids. As a teenager, Johannes fell in with a group of militant, anti-foreign rightist extremist neo-Nazis. He landed in jail after being convicted of taking part in the fatal beating of a man in August 1999. While in prison, he completed a training program and says he found his faith with the help of the prison chaplain. Gradually, he came to renounce neo-Nazism. Later, he went on to study theology. Today he is the pastor at a small Baptist church in the Erzgebirge in southeastern Germany. He has also written a book about his experiences.

Join us for a very special event as tonight's co-sponsor, Villa Aurora, presents their writer-in residence, Jan Brandt. A village on the furthest outskirts of northwest Lower Saxony, only a few kilometres from the Dutch border: Cows are grazing on the meadows, farmers are tilling their fields, every once in a while the din of a low-lying aircraft disturbs the tranquility. Flowers are blossoming behind the trimmed cedar hedges, shiny, freshly waxed new cars stand in the driveways. This is the world into which Daniel Kuper was born in the mid 1970s, a lanky, withdrawn boy with much too much imagination and much too little opportunity to live out only a fraction of it. Strange things soon start taking place and Kuper is held responsible. The more he tries to rebut the accusations, the deeper he gets enmeshed in them. Kuper takes up the fight against the village, its inhabitants, its traditions, its narrowness and its closeness. They are ones Kuper rebels against and they are the ones he loses out to in the end. Jan Brandt, born in Leer (Eastern Frisia) in 1974, studied history and literature in Cologne, London and Berlin and graduated from the German Journalism School in Munich. Amongst others his short stories have been published in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung and the Süddeutsche Zeitung. He was awarded numerous fellowships and residences such as to Ledig House and Yaddo in New York. Brandt's first novel Against The World was a finalist for the 2011 German Book Award and won the Nicolas-Born-First-Novel-Award. It's going to be published in English by Seagull Books in 2015. His second novel deals Germans who emigrated to America.

The goal of this study was to examine the suitability of five disease agents that are essential in swine production, in a health monitoring program. Not only the selected disease agents and the diagnostic methods were examined but also the sample size. Four market trading companies from Lower Saxony and Schleswig-Holstein provided 38 farrowing farms for the study, and sampling was done on a quarterly basis. Fifteen blood samples were taken from sows every time and serologically examined for Salmonella and in one quarter only PCV2 was tested. A total of fifteen blood samples from feeder pigs were serologically examined for Salmonella in the first and second quarter. In the course of the following testings, instead of blood probes 20 faecal samples were pooled to create four samples which were bacteriologically examined. Additionally, 30 blood probes from three growing stages were examined for antibodies against PCV2 using Ingezim PCV IgG/IgM ELISA. Twenty nasal swabs were pooled to create four samples that were tested for the EU and US strains of PRRSV. Furthermore, the four pooled faecal samples were examined for Brachyspira spp. using Multiplex-PCR, and the probes from the first two quarters were also examined for Campylobacter spp.. The farms were assigned into one of four categories, 0 to 3, based on their results from the serological examination for Salmonella and similar to those of the Salmonella VO and QS. Based on the sow results, 10.8% of the farms were in the category 0, 67% in the category 1 and the rest of the farms fell into the categories 2 and 3. Feeder pigs from three farms were placed in the category 1 and the rest were assigned the category 0. In the following bacteriological examination, Salmonella was identified in ten farms. The bacteriological examination method was better in the flatdeck when compared to the serological method. The serological examination of the sows proved to be effective for a health monitoring program. Antibodies for PCV2 were found in the sows in all farms, which confirms its ubiquitous distribution. No seroconversion could be identified in the weaner-to-feeder pigs in 10 farms. Many farms began piglet vaccination during the project. It was noted that the vaccination influenced the results of the Ingezim ELISA in these farms and that an examination is not necessary. This test can be well implemented in a monitoring program in farms that do not vaccinate. However, this test also identifies maternal antibodies and this needs to be taken into consideration when interpreting results. B. hyodysenteriae could not be identified in any farms. Other Brachyspira species that occur in swine could not be identified with the exception of B. innocens that was found in two farms. PCR appears to be a suitable diagnostic tool for a health monitoring program. The examination for Campylobacter spp. showed a wider distribution of C. coli, and 89.4% of the farms tested positive. C. jejuni could only be found as a coinfection with C. coli in one farm. In four farms, no Campylobacter sp. could be identified. In this case, PCR is also suitable for examining faecal samples. The outcome of the PRRSV examination showed highly differing results in every test period. 78.9 % of the farms altered their status during the project. This infers that the sample size was inadequate in order to determine the actual status of the farm. Moreover, a significant correlation between vaccine strain and the PCR results was observed. The PCR only differentiated between both genotypes but not between field and vaccine strains. However, a differentiation is advisable for a health monitoring program. Alternatively, the examination for PRRSV-free nucleus farms could be restricted and simply the vaccine status could be documented in other production units.
