For thirteen years, the Smurl family reported being terrorized by invisible forces in their Pennsylvania duplex - entities that threw their German Shepherd against walls, sexually assaulted both Jack and Janet, and somehow knew to hide whenever priests came to investigate. The Catholic Church sent multiple clergy who witnessed nothing, the Warrens recorded hours of supposed evidence, and neighbors threw bricks at the house during the media circus, but no one could definitively prove whether the Smurls were victims of a genuine haunting or something else entirely. In Episode 273, we bring the Podcast Playbook to a close with Part 11: Mastering the Mindset — Final Tips to Stay Consistent and Thrive. This final chapter shifts the focus from tools and strategies to the mental game required to keep your podcast alive long term. We explore why most podcasters fade out after just a few episodes, how to set realistic expectations for slow and steady growth, and the importance of building habits that keep you consistent even when results don't come overnight. You'll also learn practical tips to avoid burnout, handle setbacks like equipment failures or lack of feedback, and stay motivated by connecting with a community of creators. From batching episodes and using templates to tracking your growth and reinvesting wisely, this episode is about creating the resilience and systems that allow your podcast to thrive. More than just downloads, your show is a legacy — and with the right mindset, it can impact people for years to come.Key Takeaways: 1. Podcasting is a long game — growth is slow, steady, and compounds over time.2. Most podcasters quit after 10 episodes (podfade), but consistency separates the winners.3. Reliability matters more to listeners than perfection; showing up builds trust.4. Burnout is real — protect your energy by setting realistic schedules and batching episodes.5. Equipment failures will happen; always have a backup plan to stay on track.6. Don't rely on constant external validation — create because your message matters.7. Repurpose your content into clips, audiograms, and posts to maximize impact.8. Track your metrics regularly, but don't obsess — focus on trends, not daily spikes.9. Surround yourself with community — accountability and encouragement keep you moving.10. Every episode contributes to your legacy — your podcast is bigger than downloads.

What happens when you hand a mic to the most extroverted, uncensored Gen Z career coach in New York? You get Olivia Battinelli—adjunct professor, student advisor, mentor, speaker, and unfiltered truth-teller on everything from invisible illness to resume crimes. We talked about growing up Jewish-Italian in Westchester, surviving the Big Four's corporate Kool-Aid, and quitting a job after 7 months because the shower goals weren't working out. Sophie Sargent walked into the studio already owning the mic. A pandemic-era media rebel raised in New Hampshire, trained in Homeland Security (yep), and shaped by rejection, she's built a career out of DM'ing her way into rooms and then owning them. At 25, she's juggling chronic illness, chronic overachievement, and a generation that gets dismissed before it even speaks. We talk Lyme disease, Lyme denial, and the healthcare gaslighting that comes when you “look fine” but your body says otherwise. We dive into rejection as a career accelerant, mental health as content porn, and what it means to chase purpose without sacrificing identity. Sophie's a former morning radio host, country music interviewer, and Boston-based creator with a real voice—and she uses it.No fake podcast voice. No daddy-daughter moment. Just two loudmouths from different planets figuring out what it means to be seen, believed, and taken seriously in a system designed to do the opposite.Spoiler: She's smarter than I was at 25. Special Guest Willie Blake https://coachwillieblake.com/freegift In this episode of Profits Unleashed, I dive into a conversation that hits close to home for so many of us: the belief that we're “behind.” My guest, Coach Willie Blake—a dyslexic career and high-performance coach—shares his journey of transforming self-doubt into confidence and clarity, and why it's never too late to start. His story is proof that progress doesn't come from comparing yourself to others—it comes from taking small, consistent steps toward your goals. Key Takeaways I want you to hear today: You're not behind—you simply haven't started yet. Labels don't define you. You're not “lazy” or “a procrastinator”; you just have habits you can shift. Small daily action compounds. Willie's “2% Rule” shows how steady progress leads to extraordinary change. Clarity is essential. His GPS Method (Get clarity, Plan it, Start now) is a simple framework to break down any big goal. Flexibility in the journey matters more than rigid control—hold onto the vision, but stay open to how you get there. Willie's personal story is inspiring. Diagnosed with dyslexia in first grade, he spent years feeling “behind” his peers. Instead of giving up, he reframed his challenges into fuel for growth. By leaning into tools like audiobooks and coaching, he went from struggling to read a single book to consistently absorbing 60 books a year. That shift didn't just expand his knowledge—it helped him step into his calling as a coach who empowers neurodivergent entrepreneurs and professionals to see their unique edge as an advantage. What stood out to me most is Willie's perspective on labels. When we say “I am this,” we box ourselves in. But when we shift to “I have this,” we reclaim power. That subtle language shift opens the door for growth, self-compassion, and change. If you've ever felt stuck, compared yourself to others, or believed you were too far behind to start—this conversation is for you. You can connect with Willie at coachwillieblake.com, where he shares resources, coaching opportunities, and his podcast. And stay tuned—after the break, I'll be debunking the myth that it's too late to start your own podcast. Spoiler: it's not. YouTube – Dyslexic Achievers Hub https://www.youtube.com/@DyslexicAchieversHub LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/willieblake-light/ Community (Skool) https://coachwillieblake.com/community Instagram https://www.instagram.com/willieblake_light/ Facebook (Personal Profile) https://www.facebook.com/WillieBlake.Light/ YouTube – Coach Willie Blake https://www.youtube.com/@WillieBlake_Light So many people believe the myth that it's too late to start a podcast. After listening to my conversation with Coach Willie Blake, I couldn't help but notice how often we fall into the trap of thinking we're behind just because we compare ourselves to those further along. And the truth? You're not behind—you simply haven't started yet. Key Takeaways from this episode: It's not too late to start a podcast—there's more room than you think. Over 80% of podcasts are inactive, meaning consistency is your greatest advantage. Most podcasters quit too soon; those who keep going quickly stand out. Listeners crave authenticity and niche voices, not just celebrity shows. Your story matters—the people who need it are still waiting to hear it. Here's the reality: there are around 5 million podcasts worldwide, but fewer than 20% are actively producing new episodes. That means the space isn't oversaturated—it's full of abandoned shows. Consistency, not timing, is what separates the ones that thrive from the ones that disappear. I've said this before and I'll say it again: 90% of podcasts don't make it past three episodes, and of the ones that do, most never get past 20. That's not discouraging—it's an opportunity. If you commit to showing up, you're already ahead of the majority. Podcasting is still growing, audiences are expanding, and new listeners are tuning in every day. They're not just searching for big names; they're searching for voices that resonate with their unique struggles, interests, and goals. That could be you. Just like Willie's story reminded us, your challenges don't disqualify you—they can become your strength. Whether you're navigating dyslexia, ADHD, or simply the doubts that whisper “you're too late,” the moment you start and stay consistent, you've already set yourself apart. I'm grateful every day that I kept going, that I didn't stop when it felt tough, and that I get to share this platform with you. Your story deserves to be heard, and the world is waiting for it. If you're ready to finally start, head over to podcastprofitsunleashed.com and book a call. Let's get your voice out there.

In today's episode, I'm getting super real about what it's actually been like navigating business after becoming a mom. This season of life has stretched me in ways I didn't see coming - from comparing myself to my “old self,” to grieving goals that no longer fit, to redefining what success looks like with limited time and energy. My hope is that by sharing these lessons, you'll feel less alone in your own transitions (whether you're a mom or not) and more empowered to give yourself both grace and permission to keep growing. Here's what you'll hear inside this episode:The surprising ways motherhood has shifted my confidence + identityLearning to hold both pressure and permission at the same timeNavigating business with limited time, energy, and creativityThe turning point that made me a better coach (even when it didn't feel like it)Grieving expired dreams + redefining potential in this season of lifeIf this conversation resonates, send me a DM over at @iamnoravirginia — I'd love to hear your favorite takeaway from this episode.
#189: The masks we wear rarely tell our full story. When I uploaded my Instagram photo to Chat GPT for analysis, the contrast between perception and reality struck me deeply. The world sees confidence, boldness, and someone who "has it all figured out", yet beneath that exterior lives someone who feels deeply, craves safety, and needs solitude to recharge. This fascinating disconnect shapes every relationship we build. At work, people assume we can carry additional weight because we appear capable. In friendships, we're often the "strong one" who rarely gets checked on. And in romance? Partners attracted to our confident selves sometimes retreat when our vulnerable sides emerge. It's exhausting when the world only validates one dimension of who we are.Social media has amplified this phenomenon to unprecedented levels. We've all posted highlight reels while sitting in completely different emotional realities. These carefully crafted personas serve as both protection and prison, shielding us from judgment while simultaneously preventing authentic connection. The truth is that confidence doesn't mean invulnerability; it simply means we've learned to wear our armor effectively. What we're all searching for are people who can see past that armor. Those rare connections who don't mistake our protective layers for our whole identity. They recognize that our bluntness might be honesty, our ambition might mask a desire for peace, and our sociability might require periods of solitude to sustain. Whether you're typically misunderstood or feel people only appreciate half of who you are, know this: the ones worth keeping close are those who can love both your spotlight and your shadows. Your armor protects you, but it should never define you. Ready to explore both sides of yourself? Join us for this deeply personal conversation about authenticity in a curated world. You can now send us a text to ask a question or review the show. We would love to hear from you! Communication Queen | entrepreneurship, marketing, storytelling, public speaking, and podcasting
Ever wonder how some people seem to always land next-level opportunities, top-tier guests, and life-changing connections? Spoiler alert: it's not luck — it's strategy, baby. In this episode of the Communication Queen podcast, Kimberly Spencer sits down with Trevor Houston, host of the Who You Know podcast, to reveal how podcasting can be your ultimate networking superpower. Trevor shares how he went from starting a show in 2018 to landing interviews with big names like Grant Cardone, Elena Cardone, and Rachel Cruze — and how each guest became a stepping stone to the next big door. But this conversation goes way deeper than guest lists. Trevor breaks down his “Push Power to Power” philosophy, how to create genuine win-win relationships (without feeling like a leech), and why presence and active listening are the secret weapons of next-level networking. We also dive into how to turn podcast interviews into content machines, how to add value without being pushy, and why you should bless them, block them, and protect your energy when trolls show up. If you've ever wanted to use podcasting to grow your network, uplevel your circle, and create opportunities that align with your mission — this is your permission slip to play bigger.
Is copying in podcasting a cardinal sin or a necessary step towards finding your unique voice? Today, we're plunging into the murky waters of inspiration vs. imitation. We explore how new podcasters can learn from established shows without becoming carbon copies, and when 'borrowing' ideas crosses the line. Featuring a thought-provoking clip from Matt Bliss's 'Rethinking Podcasting,' we dissect what makes content truly original in a medium where 'there's nothing new under the sun.' We challenge the notion of prescriptive advice and discuss how pushing through the discomfort of learning leads to authentic creativity. Discover how to prepare effectively, create a welcoming environment for your guests, master active listening, deliver your podcasts with the right level of energy and fully engage your audience. Louie's practical strategies will help you overcome nerves and deliver compelling episodes—whether you're flying solo or hosting with a guest. Want to get into podcasting but need a little push? Join our 3-day Podcasting event in Peterborough! – Get in touch for details! Use email: podcast@disruptivemedia.co.uk Episode Takeaways Your energy is important. If you speak in a monotone, in a low tone most people will automatically switch off mentally and click away. On the other hand, being over the top will also turn people off. Louie explains how to keep your energy high enough. Train yourself to be an active listener. Louie explains how to do that and react when your guest says something you want them to elaborate on. Preparation is vital. It helps your confidence and creates the mental head space to actively listen to your guest. It enables you to be truly present instead of constantly thinking about what you are going to say next. Pause briefly each time your guest stops speaking. If they have something else to say they will be able to do so without your talking over them. It also gives you and your audience time to think. BEST MOMENTS “Tip number one is all about energy, tone and pacing. Make sure, as a host, that you are constantly thinking about how your energy is coming across.” “Listen back to yourself and see how you feel or get some feedback from a listener and then react accordingly.” “Try and be as quiet as humanly possible whilst the other person's speaking, so you're not disrupting the airwaves.” "Make sure that they (your guests) are comfortable, make sure they know that they can pause. Make sure they know that you can edit things out. Make sure that you guide them through it. Facebook is undermonetized, TikTok poses an existential threat to Amazon, and ChatGPT has probably already captured most of Google's high-value users. These are the opinions of today's guest, a venture capitalist deeply embedded in consumer networks and social product investing. In this episode, CJ chats with Turner Novak, the Founder and Managing Partner of Banana Capital, host of The Peel podcast, and a man who is known for his Twitter threads and podcast interviews as much as he is for his impressive portfolio. Turner breaks down the monetization models of some of the world's biggest platforms. Together, they discuss undervalued and overvalued business models, the long-term viability of subscription models, how platforms can identify and serve their highest-value users, and how to adapt acquisition strategies as AI reshapes the customer journey. Turner also reveals what excites him for future investments and the underestimated power of memes as a marketing tool.—LINKS:Turner Novak on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/turnernovakTurner Novak on X (@TurnerNovak): https://x.com/TurnerNovakBanana Capital: https://www.bananacapital.vcThe Peel: https://www.youtube.com/@ThePeelPodthespl.it: CJ on X (@cjgustafson222): https://x.com/cjgustafson222Mostly metrics: —TIMESTAMPS:(00:00) Preview and Intro(02:09) Sponsor – Rillet | Pulley | Brex(06:15) Turner's Embarrassing Accounting Story(08:10) How Turner Became an Accidental Influencer(09:02) Monetizing Content(12:22) How Turner Built His Media Platform(16:02) Sponsor – Aleph | RightRev | Navan(20:26) From Fantasy VC Portfolios to Podcasting(24:30) Turner's Main Business: Media Versus VC(25:42) Monetizing Premium Experiences on Social Products(30:27) Finding and Targeting High-Value Customers(32:27) Memes as a Tool for Marketing(36:10) Identifying High-Value Users and Opportunities(41:00) Why Pinterest Is Undermonetized(42:57) TikTok Versus Amazon for E-Commerce(46:30) Is ChatGPT Coming for Facebook and Google's Cash Flow(48:36) Facebook as an Undermonetized Business(54:24) The Long-Term Viability of Subscriptions(1:00:31) Customer Acquisition in a Platform-Dominated World(1:04:09) Paid Acquisition in the Era of AI(1:06:23) The Increasing Cost of CAC(1:08:59) What Turner Is Investing in Now(1:15:25) Doing Hard Things as a Moat(1:19:12) Wrap—SPONSORS:Rillet is the AI-native ERP modern finance teams are switching to because it's faster, simpler, and 100% built for how teams operate today.
