Speaker B: Get started. Speaker A: Welcome. Speaker B: Hi. Hi. Hello, everyone, to the Pro Audio Suite. Speaker A: These guys are professional and motivated with tech. To the Vo stars George Wittam, founder of Source Elements Robert Marshall, international audio engineer Darren Robbo Robertson and global voice Andrew Peters. Thanks to Triboo austrian audio making passion heard. Source elements. George the tech. Wittam and robbo and AP's. International demo. To find out more about us, check thepro audiosuite.com. Speaker B: Learn up learner. Here we go. Speaker C: And don't forget the password. Trip a P 200 to get $200 off your Triboof. Now, talking of product, one of our sponsors, apart from Triboof is Austrian Audio. And Austrian Audio have been busy lately and just released some new product, which is my creator studio, my creator satellite and my creator Ylav, which is an interesting thing for Austrian Audio. I didn't think they would get into this or particularly the Mylav thing. I didn't see them going that way. But what do you think, just a first look at this product from Austrian Audio. Speaker B: Well, I would say they are reading the tea leaves, as you could say, and it's just they have to have a product in this category. The creator category is a massive category. It kind of encompasses podcasting, Vlogging, songwriting. If you make content, you're a creator. And so this is like we are creators today because we're making a podcast. So this is who they need to reach out to. It's no longer the home musician or the home studio. It's the creator. This is the category that's replacing the quote unquote home studio. And so they're entering that market. And if their engineering track record so far is any indication, because this is new and none of us have one, I think they'll nail it. They haven't really missed a beat on anything they released so far, and I think they need to be very careful to make sure that brand stays gold. It's really concerning when companies release something half baked or just not quite up to par, even though it's at a lower price point. So obviously it's not going to be made in Austria in the same lab as the OC eight one eight. Right. : It's interesting. It's got one knob. I wonder if it's like that one thing where we couldn't figure out how to use it because the interface was like two buttons and everything happened. Speaker B: Yeah, well, I'm looking at it closely on screen and I don't have the software again, but it's got a three position switch on the face of the body of the mic itself and it's got high low mute. So that leads me to believe that it's just a very simple two position gain switch. : Yeah, but it talks about low latency monitoring, so it's got some stuff going on as a creator. It talks about low latency monitoring without any trouble. Speaker B: Yeah, well, it's got a volume balance knob, which I would say probably is that. So it's a volume control and it's a blend control, assuming that's what Bal means. Speaker C: Unless it could actually be when you plug into the micreator studio, you plug in the micreator satellite to create a stereo mic. Maybe that switch actually doubles as that to get a blend between left and right. I don't know right. Speaker B: Don't know yet. Don't know yet. : I'm looking for a manual. Speaker B: It's got a nice engineering industrial design. Not sexy, just kind of utilitarian looking. A square ish rectangular body and then the microphone capsule on top, which kind of has that cool retro look where the capsule is suspended inside a rim. And it's a nice looking design if it holds up to the abuse of what creators do, which is, to be completely frank, not take care of their gear. In a lot of cases, you just chuck things in your bag. I'll talk about another one of our friends rode, right? Speaker C: Yes. Speaker B: One thing I love about my rode wireless mics, the little wireless mes I have the cheapy ones is they're so light and so basic that I can just kind of I mean, I stick them in a little bag. And throw them in my gear bag. And they're so inconspicuous and they're so simple to operate that when I do need to use them as long as the battery is charged. And that's important. But as long as they got a charge on them, they're just so easy to deploy. Like within 30 seconds, I had it plugged into my iPhone. I launched the Road, I think they call it Capture road capture app. And I'm capturing my mic on my camera, the mic on my talent, and both cameras, the front and the rear. And I'm automatically shooting video and audio. : Is that all down to three files? Does it give you them separately or how does it do it? Speaker B: Yeah. So what it's doing and I would like to control this, but I can't. So what it does is it makes two video files and then each video file has a two track audio to go with it. So each video has both the microphones on ISO tracks. So what I do is when I bring why does it make two videos. : Like front and back or what? Speaker B: I can set it up to do that. Yeah. So you'll see a video I'm going to release soon, which is the interview of the owner of Vocalbooth.com. And I use that feature. So you'll see a video of me and him talking to each other. I'm behind it, he's in front of it, and you'll see it's just switching between the two of us. I'm using software to do this switch back and forth. And all I had to do was actually isolate the two audio tracks so I could get a better mix because I ended up having both audio tracks on both shots. So I had to kind of isolate them so you didn't have doubles, right, if that makes any sense. But this reminds me of that kind of, like, creator's tool, simple USBC plug and go. Looking at the back of the microphone now, I'm actually finally saw the rear of it. There's a few more functions, a few more jacks. : Well, the plug in the satellite mic is one. Speaker C: Yeah, that'll be the out. And then you get to the satellite mic, and then it's got an input and an output. And I'm assuming that what you do there is you get the headphone monitoring will come from the out, from the satellite, I guess, yeah. Speaker B: I mean, I look at this as Austrian audio saying, those road systems are cute, but we make good mics. So let's do the same idea. Forget at the wireless mics. This is really more for musician creators. So let's be able to have two mics, but all plugged into one USB. : This is a little bit of a RODECaster, I think it does. Speaker B: It's a little bit of a road type. Yeah. : Because it's recording both the lavalier mic and the close up mic, I guess. Speaker B: The lav or the satellite mic, which. : Looks like I think it records both. Speaker B: Yeah. The satellite mic looks like just another of the same capsule, just without the rest of the brains. It's just a little it's got a TRRS microphone cable, and it goes to the slave. It's like a master slave. We don't use that anymore, do we, the terms anymore? But it's kind of like there's the primary secondary, or whatever you want to call it. Speaker C: That's really interesting. Interesting product. We'll try and get our hands on something, at least one or two of those, just to check them out. Also, in the next few weeks, someone is sending me an ISO booth. I think you've done a demo on. Speaker B: Those sending you an ISO booth. So if they're sending it to you and it's for isolation, that already makes me concerned that it's not going to be very good at Isolating. Speaker C: Well, you know the big thing, you stick your head inside the ISO booth. : Yeah. The gray one that makes you want to vomit once you're in there for. Speaker C: A while, probably we'll find out when I get it, but it's going to be shipped to me in the next week or so. : Brush your teeth. Speaker C: Yes. Speaker B: Are we divulging who this is yet? Are we going to wait until you've used it and then you're going to. Speaker C: Mention we'll wait till I've used it. I just want to check it out. : Isn't it Isovox? Speaker C: Isovox, yeah. : Yes. Speaker B: They're going to send you their new. Speaker C: Cheaper one, the Isovox Two, I think it's called. Speaker B: Oh, they're going to send you Isovox Two. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: Okay. : Aren't those things like, $800? Speaker B: I did a video review of that. How long ago? Five years ago. They're going to send you one of those? Speaker C: Yeah, I think you did the Isovox one, is that correct? Speaker B: I did the isovox two. I have the video loaded right now on my screen. Speaker C: Wow. Yeah, because the distributor that brings in Austrian audio into Australia have got them. : Yeah. The isovox two is like $1,000. Speaker C: So it's just going to come down for a week. I'll play with it and then we'll use it on one of the upcoming episodes and see what we think. Also an update on the passport vo. I've seen a bit of correspondence flicking backwards and forwards, mainly to you, George. How's it? Speaker B: Well, you know, the bottom line being I think Mike is being very transparent, but this is the truth is that he had a backlog of product to ship because of a part supply issue. So that really took the energy away from our product for a few months that we thought he would have been working on our product. So that means that our product is still in essentially, it's in design phase. We were the Envisionaries Envisionaries the vision visionaries for what we wanted, but it comes down to actual circuit design, and that is what it takes to get this thing really built. And so Michael is in that stage. He's in the circuit design stage. We were hoping this would have happened three months ago. It didn't, because he's been trying to basically relaunch and redeliver or deliver a whole bunch of their products because of a USB chip problem. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: And so they had to literally redesign the boards for four products, get them back into production, get them delivered and shipped. So they've done that. So now if you do want to go buy a micport pro Three, they're actually shipping. They're no longer on preorder, as they've been for quite a while, as well as the mixer face and the portcaster and things like that. Speaker C: And the English Channel, I think, is number one. Speaker B: Yeah. Well, there's another one that's the English Channel, which I hear a little birdie said that we might have something to test out at some point. Speaker C: I think one is being shipped to Robo. I know that. I'm pretty sure that's happening, so that could be interesting. Speaker B: The English Channel is a fully analog piece, right? : Is it a preamp and EQ or. Speaker C: Just a preamp and limiter compressor? Preamp, I think it's got everything. Basically, there's a channel strip I got. Speaker B: To double check because they also have this soapbox, and there's a little bit of an overlap in terms of what does what, so I'm double checking that right now. But the Channel well, the English Channel. : Is but he only sent one to Robbo, right? He didn't send them out all over the place. Speaker B: I don't know. I thought he asked for my address, but I could be wrong. Yeah, but the English Channel, he didn't. : Ask for mine, as far as I know. Speaker B: Okay. Speaker C: Oh, mine. Speaker B: Tim's fighting words. The English Channel includes a studio mic, pre dynamics processor with gate compressor and DeEsser and parametric EQ with sonic enhancer and a streaming USB audio interface with SD card recorder. So it's essentially it's a little mini rack of three products. That's the English Channel. Speaker C: Yeah. : I didn't realize English Channel had a recorder on it. Speaker B: Well, it's the soapbox, the black cab and the portcaster. Yeah. Speaker C: All in one or linked together? Speaker B: Well, yeah, all combined in a cool little rack that they all lock into and connect together to make it feel like one product. : I think it's all those together. Oh, is he sending you the whole string? Speaker C: Holy shit. Speaker B: I don't know, but that would be pretty slamming. I was the most interested in testing the soapbox because that's kind of like a DBX 286. : I think the Preamp is the most interesting one if it's a decent external preamp. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: Well, the soapbox is the preamp. The Black Cab is a five band spectral processor. : It's an EQ five band. It's a three wait, hold on. Speaker B: Well, they call it a five band. : Black Cab is just a three. I'm looking at it right now. It's a three band parametric q gain. Speaker B: And it must have a high shelf and a low shelf. : Oh, yeah, it does. Speaker B: No, it's got HDF. Yeah, it's got a pad that makes it five bands. And then there's the podcaster, is the recorder side of the whole thing. Speaker C: Yeah. It's interesting with sentrance because I've sort of been scouting around as well because I got an email from Michael that sort of inspired me to go down a rabbit hole on the Google. And I found some really interesting reviews, particularly on MixerFace, that was written by Sound on Sound magazine. And anyone that knows Sound on Sound knows they're pretty an authority. And they're good. : Yeah. Speaker B: Beyond reproach, would you say? Speaker C: I would say pretty well beyond reproach. Yeah. And they rave about Sentrin's products, so that was quite nice to read. Speaker B: Good to see. Yeah, I know a lot of the reviews. I mean, it's probably more likely to find a pretty honest review in these traditional print magazines than I would say you're going to find on a YouTube channel these days. I know that YouTubers are being forced to divulge that the product was sent to them, but that is part of the whole. Those that want to give the most impartial reviews tend to be the ones that actually go buy the products. Right. And so it's getting increasingly difficult to find reviews of brand new products that were not gifted to the reviewers. : I can tell you that I bought the Mixer. Speaker C: Bo Weaver. He's got a mixer face from memory as well, isn't he? Did he get one? Speaker B: He may. I don't recall particularly, but I think so. I think he's always been an early adopter. Whenever something new came out that was portable, he was all over it. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: So I'm sure he had one. Yeah. Speaker C: Well, if that's the case, then I should put my hand up and say, I bought my OC eight one eight. : Yes, you did. Speaker C: Yes. : That's what started the whole thing. Speaker C: It was because I just bought the thing and loved it. That was the beginning of getting into bed, so to speak, with them. Speaker B: I bought my Rode wireless. Mics. Speaker C: Good work. Speaker B: It's about the cheapest thing they make. : But I bought my Rode Wireless Mics, but I didn't buy this guy, which I do like. I have to be honest, I think the NTG Five has been quite a good mic. Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: Now, we're on a new topic, but when I recommend product, I do try to defulge that I know or I have some kind of a relationship with that vendor. I do try to say that if it makes sense in the context, but it's proving your integrity. If you're listening to us right now, honestly, and you don't know who we are, first of all, Google us, okay? And second of all, we all have worked in this industry a really long time. We have very large client bases of trusted people. And if we're going to shill a product that was given to us by these vendors, we're going to use them, you're going to hear them, and you're going to get our god's honest thought about those products, period. There is no reason we're not going to go out of business because we told you something didn't sound good. It ain't going to happen. Like, we're just going to keep right on chugging whether we like something or not. So we're always going to be very straightforward with what works and what doesn't, you know what I mean? Speaker C: But the thing is, if it's something good, you want to share that information with people. I mean, I know the Austrian audio, particularly the OC 8118. I know quite a few people have bought them on my recommendation and love them. So it's not they've bought them and just going on, great, thanks for that. I've just shelled out some cash and. : You haven't gotten any commission or anything for that? Speaker B: No, really? : In fact, we should talk about that. Speaker C: Yes, indeed. Speaker B: No, we don't. We get product, we get to use it. We get to use it in the real world. We get to do our shows with the products. You hear us using the products, we talk about them. That benefits them, the vendor or the manufacturer, that benefits us because we get to use the stuff and talk about it with authority. And it benefits hopefully, you guys, too, because you're going to hear us say what we like, what we don't like, and what works, what doesn't, and that kind of thing. So hopefully everybody wins and they find that there's some integrity. There's going to be people out there who say, well, screw those guys, they got that thing for free. I've immediately written them off as an authority on that product or impartial reviewer, and that's fine. What are you going to do? Speaker C: Yeah. And we do get stuff for free, and we're quite happy to disclose that we're not going to lie to anybody about the product just because we got it for free. I mean, if it's free and it's junk, we'll say it's junk. Like the product. The Austrian audio thing. When I approached them to come on as a sponsor, I was expecting a big no. But no, they were happy to listen to the podcast and were happy to get involved. Speaker B: Going back, do you remember why you approached them? What caught their attention to you? Speaker C: Well, first of all, I had been reading about these microphones coming out and I was actually the barbecue at a friend's place, and the guy who is the distributor for Austrian Audio now had told me some time ago that he said, I've got something special up my sleeve that's coming out. We're going to be distributing this new microphone. And I'd forgotten all about that. And I saw him at the barbecue and I said, oh, Mark, I've seen this great new mic. It looks fantastic. It's called the Austrian Audio. OC. Eight one eight. He goes, Mate, that's the one we're bringing in. I went, Holy shit, you're kidding. Looks great. He goes, It's fantastic. And then they did a bit of a launch just when COVID had kicked off, unfortunately, and I went to this. Speaker B: I'm familiar with that problem. Yeah. Speaker C: God. And it was all the product launched. Speaker B: Exactly like three months before the friggin Pandemic. We're trying to sell a portable product whenever traveling. Speaker C: Then I went to this function that Group Technologies here in Australia are put on. So they had Austrian Audio down there, they had a whole bunch of other products they bring into Australia from Europe and all over the place. And I met Martin, who's the CEO of Austrian Audio. He was there just talking to people and demonstrating product. And so I had a good chat with him and he was telling me about how Austrian Audio happened and what the capsule they put into the OC eight. One eight was actually from all the R and D they were doing at AKG, trying to replicate the C Twelve. And it's all the stuff about microphones that they got from famous people just to try and get some kind of sonic signature from the C Twelve that they could base their new OC 8118 on. So that was when I first got it. And I bought one and just loved it and kind of went from there, really. So I was talking to the guys here and I said, it'd be really nice if they became a sponsor. Would they be interested? And it's like, Talk to Walter in Austria and see what he says. So I did. Speaker B: And they said, you did it the old fashioned way. Speaker C: Old fashioned way? I didn't use a pen and paper to write a letter. Speaker B: No, but you had a relationship, you made a connection, you had a relationship, you just reached out and that's how it works. Whereas a lot of influencers, it doesn't work that way at all. The influencers just getting inundated with emails from the marketing departments of all these different products saying review our product please. And that's not at all what happened and how things work around here. Partly because we're kind of in terms of the internet of personalities, we're small potatoes. We do not have 20, 5100 and 3 million followers. It ain't going to happen. So there's not that motivation for companies to get these products into our hands. Like bandru? Speaker C: Yeah. Speaker B: From podcastage and those guys nor do we want to be in that position either. Those guys, it's a grind for them. I've talked to Mike Delgadio, the booth junkie and other guys like them and it's a grind for them. They just oh get I have four more of these things to get reviewed in the next know or whatever. It becomes just sort of a grind. And we're not in that position either, which I'm really grateful for that we don't have to. It's just not part of how we do things and how we make money. We just get product, we talk about it, use it and then we just do our thing. Speaker C: Yeah, and we're not just a product reviewer either. I mean, we're more not at all brainstrust. Speaker B: If this is your first time listening to us, go back a year or two. Speaker C: Yeah, that's right. Yeah. It's more of a brains trust and a place where people can listen in and just use us as a resource to get some information about anything they might want to do in their home studio, including buying an Austrian Audio microphone. Speaker B: I've gotten some really good anecdotal just literally a man on the street. People I meet at events. Great compliments about the that's well that's know I really enjoy your shows that you podcast. Pro Audio Suite podcast, you know, it resonates with people. I am told about this show I showed up to Joseph Brando's promo masterclass and three different people at lunch there were like, hey, I love that's. Great. People are hearing really they really enjoy it and it resonates with them and there's some value that they're getting from the show. Speaker C: Well, I do know that there's quite a few dealers in Chicago that resonates with them as well. : Definitely. Speaker B: Well that was fun. Is it over? Katherine Papadimitriou Ladikos was born and raised and still lives in Atlanta, GA. At the age of 4, she and her brother Dimitri were dragged from Saturday Morning Cartoons to meet with a woman named Eleni that would teach them Greek Dancing inside the dining room of a restaurant. Who knew from both sides that one simple dance of Kastorianos would take a full day to master and turn into a lifetime of love for Greek Folk Dancing.Katherine & Dimitri would perform their duet for a few years and started learning new dances with the older group that their Mother Kiki Papadimitriou had joined. The journey began with performances at Greek Festivals and Events all over the Southeast and many travels to the infamous Winter Dance Conferences learning from many International instructors from Dora Stratou & Lykeion Ton Ellinidon and National instructors who still grace the world of Greek Dance today. Troupe Hellas would eventually introduce several groups incorporating all ages from age 5 and up and eventually Katherine and Dimitri would be dancing and performing with their peers and parea. Katherine was very dedicated to the world of dance and would help make costumes, assist with teaching, and taking roles on the board and in 1995 Troupe Hellas would evolve into the Lykeion Ton Ellinidon Atlanta and the sad departure of their long time director Eleni as she moved out of the country and would now become more involved. The group was like a fine wine and grew better and better over time. Eventually events, festivals, and dance conferences would turn into competitions at both FDF and HDF.Katherine and Andrew knew each other since little kids but it was the dance group and the tight bond of their parea that would bring them together and marry in 2007 which is around the time when Katherine stepped back from dancing due to a genetic retinal degenerative disease which was making it most difficult to learn and perform. Although Katherine is not physically involved in teaching and performing her heart beats and feet don't stop moving for Greek Folk Dance. Their sons Kosta and Stefanos are both in the dance group and both Katherine & Andrew are proud to cheer them on, sneak in a dance here and there, all while making new memories and reminiscing about the good ‘ol days.If you liked this episode, please consider making a donation in Kat's name to the Foundation Fighting Blindness:https://donate.fightingblindness.org/webdonationEpisode Music: Endasi Live in Miami

Pre-emergence Signatures Of Horizontal Divergent Flows In Solar Active Regions by T. Rees-Crockford et al. on Thursday 13 October Solar active regions (ARs) play a fundamental role in driving many of the geo-effective eruptions which propagate into the Solar System. However, we are still unable to consistently predict where and when ARs will occur across the solar disk by identifying pre-emergence signatures in observables such as the Doppler velocity (without using Helioseismic methods). Here we aim to determine the earliest time at which pre-emergence signatures, specifically the Horizontal Divergent Flow (HDF), can be confidently detected using data from the Solar Dynamics Observatory's Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (SDO/HMI). Initially, we follow previous studies using the thresholding method, which searches for significant increases in the number of pixels that display a specific line-of-sight velocity. We expand this method to more velocity windows and conduct a basic parameter study investigating the effect of cadence on the inferred results. Our findings agree with previous studies with $37.5$% of ARs displaying a HDF, with average lead times between the HDF and flux emergence of $58$ minutes. We present a new potential signature of flux emergence which manifests as cadence-independent transient disruptions to the amplitudes of multiple velocity windows and recover potential pre-emergence signatures for 10 of the 16 ARs studied, with lead times of 60-156 minutes. Several effects can influence both the estimated times of both HDF and flux emergence suggesting that one may need to combine Doppler and magnetic field data to get a reliable indicator of continued flux emergence. arXiv: http://arxiv.org/abs/http://arxiv.org/abs/2210.06276v1

Throughout the years she developed a passion for all regions of Greece. She has participated in various symposia around the world, including Mazoxi in Crete, Yasoo! Symposiums in Seattle, and various symposia in Northern and Southern California. She currently has extended her knowledge of dance by helping dance groups through Southern and Northern California and providing them with resources for dances,  music, and costumes. Currently, her passion continues through judging at HDF for the last 5 years and helping directors from the Atlanta diocese. Mrs. Zoumberakis specializes in many areas of Greece, with a concentration in Crete, the Cyclades, the Dodekanisa, and Thrace.  A founding member of the Long Beach Greek Dance and Cultural Arts School, she helped write the by-laws that are upheld today, making it one of the most successful dance programs on the West Coast.  Acknowledging the need for directors, she helped implement a mentoring program in 2004 for young dancers who had an interest in directing.  Since that time, she has helped train over 30 new directors in Long Beach, fostering a wonderful directing team that has learned about teamwork and the importance of instilling our culture and the love of Greek dance to our youth. This program continues with her “students” becoming mentors for the next generation of directors.

Did you know that Rhode Island native, Ed Lee is a former professional ice hockey player who played two games in the NHL for the Quebec Nordiques. Afterwards, he was traded to the Minnesota North Stars in 1985 and then played for the Fredericton Express, Springfield Indians and in a German Hockey League. Now, we turn our feature story…. How many college students would embrace a triple major while simultaneously running an international foundation dedicated to advocating for and easing the suffering of childhood cancer patients? URI Human development and family sciences student Ali Hornung does just that, managing to balance her HDF studies in counseling with those in global business management and German. But her true passion lies with students much younger than her college peers. Since she was 12 years old, Hornung has been an advocate for childhood cancer fighters and survivors. She has turned that passion into a full-time endeavor, starting the Glimmer of Hope Foundation. The inspiration to dedicate herself to helping relieve the pain of the scourge of childhood cancer began with a young friend named Ella was diagnosed with leukemia at 11 years old. Ella fought the disease through multiple rounds of chemotherapy and tragically Ella passed away at age 14 in 2019. She started around the time the COVID-19 pandemic started in March 2020. She began making masks to donate to kids with cancer, sewing thousands of masks by herself, raising $10,000 for various children's cancer charities like Talia's Legacy and the Children's Miracle Network. But she wanted to do more, especially for young girls like Ella who had inspired her so much. Hornung said: “I wanted to start a non-profit and went to Ella's parents to talk about ways to continue her legacy. They told me about how she had written to American Girl dolls to ask about a bald doll; she wanted every girl to receive the bald doll,” “They got her a bald doll at the time and she named it Hope. So that's what we ran with — Glimmer of Hope. It has taken off from there. It was our 1-year anniversary in July, and we've sent 250 dolls to girls with cancer.” The dolls cost $135 each. The foundation buys every doll and ships them around the country, including a card about Ella, outfits for the doll, cancer support resources for the family, and wellness packages, including everything from toys to toiletries. Hornung's goal is to donate 1,000 dolls in the next five years. Stay up to date on this story and more at westerlysun.com Today we're remembering the life of Anita Ames of North Stonington. Born in New London, Anita graduated from Stonington High School in 1953 and went on to receive her Associates Degree from Katharine Gibbs, taking the train each day into Providence wearing her white gloves and hat. She was quickly employed by Electric Boat in Groton, leaving there to raise a family and run the household while her husband, Charles, was out to sea. Later she became employed by the Board of Education for the town of North Stonington and worked there as the secretary to the Superintendent of Schools for over 20 yrs. After retiring from the school system she worked for the Town Probate office and the Town Police. Mrs. Ames was a life member of the North Stonington Congregational Church, where she had been an active and dedicated member, playing piano for the youth Choir and sitting on various committees. Anita was also active in civic affairs in her beloved community and was a member of the North Stonington Grange, and sat on the Juvenile Board of Review, the Board of Education, and the North Stonington Education Foundation to name a few. She was recognized for her dedication to the youth of North Stonington with an Honorary Diploma during the 2016 Wheeler High School graduation. Even though Anita loved to serve, volunteer and work, she always had time for her family. She was a loving mother, grandmother and aunt. She will be sadly missed by her three children, her grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also leaves her sisters, a brother, and many nieces and nephews. Thank you for taking a moment with us today to remember and celebrate Anita's life. That's it for today, we'll be back next time with more! Virologists reveal how poor man's amino acid cure for COVID-19 would abolish need for vaccines Bio-Virus Research Inc (Nevada), September 15, 2021 A natural cure for COVID-19 that is widely available and affordable for even the poorest of people on the planet has been confirmed by a team of virologists who have spent a lifetime studying the underlying causes of viral infections. Backed by decades of research and safety data for herpes-family viruses, U.S.-based researchers at Bio-Virus Research Inc, Reno, Nevada, report on the successful treatment of the first 30 frontline doctors and nurses and a thousand-plus patients given the amino acid lysine to prevent and even abolish COVID-19 coronavirus infections at a clinic in the Dominican Republic.  Astonishingly, symptoms of COVID-19 are reported to have dissipated within hours of this natural treatment. The medical staff at a clinic in the Dominican Republic was coming down with two cases of coronavirus per month before lysine therapy was instituted. The virologists, Drs. Christopher Kagan, Bo Karlicki and Alexander Chaihorsky, strongly suggested the front-line healthcare workers embark on a daily regimen of lysine therapy due to daily exposure to the virus.  Their ground-breaking report is published online at ResearchGate.net. Arginine/lysine balance Lysine therapy interrupts the replication of viruses, including COVID-19 coronavirus, by countering arginine, an amino acid that fosters the eruption of dormant viruses.  Lysine has been safely used for decades to quell herpes virus outbreaks that cause cold sores on the lips (herpes labialis), a treatment pioneered by one of the Bio-Virus Research team members in 1974. Lysine is available in foods and in concentrated form in inexpensive dietary supplements (250 500-milligram lysine tablets can be purchased for under $5 US or 2-cents per tablet), making affordable lysine therapy possible. Lysine/arginine imbalance would explain why patients who have been infected with COVID-19 have recurrent infections, even after vaccination. Lysine Rx in Dominican Republic The daily therapeutic supplement regimen for the medical staff in the Dominican Republic consisted of 2000 milligrams of lysine capsules along with restricted dietary consumption of arginine-rich foods such as nuts, chocolate, orange juice, pumpkin, sesame seeds, wheat germ. The Bio-Virus Research team found doses of supplemental lysine up to 4000 milligrams to be safe and effective. Foods that have a high ratio of lysine over arginine such as eggs, tofu, fish (not raw), sardines, cheese, meats such as pork, poultry and red meat, and yogurt) provide a high ratio of lysine over arginine, thus blocking replication of all coronaviruses including COVID-19. According to the virologists who were interviewed by this reporter, over 1000 patients have now been successfully treated with surprisingly rapid dissolution of symptoms and return to health.  Even severely infected COVID-19 patients have been able to come off the ventilator with lysine therapy, say doctors. Third-party validation for lysine therapy Writing in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases another research team based in New York and Texas reports that arginine depletion is a strategy to quell both coronaviruses and other herpes family viruses. In 2016 researchers documented that lysine impairs the growth of coronaviruses in a lab dish. The Bio-Virus Research team are not loners nor out on a scientific limb.  A report, published in the Journal of Antivirals & Antiretrovirals, is what prompted to the current discovery that was put into clinical practice in the Dominican Republic.  The science was in place prior to the announcement a mutated coronavirus was sweeping the globe which no one had immunity towards. Dietary intake The Recommended Daily dietary intake of lysine is 2660 milligrams for a 154-lb (70 kilogram) adult; 3640 milligrams during pregnancy. Dietary intake of lysine in western populations ranges from 40-180 milligrams per day per kilogram (2.2 lbs.) of body weight, or 2800-12,600 milligrams for a 154 lb. (70 kilogram) adult. It is the balance of arginine to lysine that controls the eruption of dormant viruses in the body.  The average intake of arginine is estimated to be 4000-6000 milligrams per day. Other health benefits Supplemental lysine also has other health benefits.  Lysine increases absorption of calcium, relieves bouts of anxiety, promotes wound healing, and is helpful for other conditions.  Cholesterol is deposited in binding sites within coronary arteries.  When lysine (and vitamin C) occupy those binding sites, cholesterol is not deposited in arteries. Prevalence of herpes viral infections Worldwide many billions of people harbor dormant herpes viruses that erupt into disease from time to time.  In 2016 an estimated 3.7 billion people had herpes simplex virus infection– around 66.6% of the world's population aged 0 to 49. Availability of lysine Lysine is largely produced by the tons for animal feedstuffs.  Roughly 2,200,000 tons of lysine are produced annually.  There is no shortage. Billions may benefit The most frequent medical application of lysine therapy has been the quelling of active herpes infections (on skin, lips, etc.), and eradication of Epstein-Barr infection, Bell's palsy, etc. Researchers bemoan the fact that lysine therapy hasn't become a mainstay in the treatment of herpes infections that affect ~80% of the world's population over expensive and problematic anti-viral drugs because it doesn't generate sufficient profit to attract funding for human clinical trials.  Lysine is superior to various anti-viral drugs. If lysine lives up to its promise as a universal COVID-19 antidote for therapeutic and preventive use, unless billionaire Bill Gates buys up and mothballs all the lysine production plants in the world like he has bought off agricultural land, and bought off news media, vaccine makers and politicians, the need for vaccines will become a moot and meaningless practice for COVID-19. Because of the long-term safety record of this dietary amino acid, the public can take lysine as a non-prescription preventive “medicine.” Epidemiologists baffled by low rate of coronavirus infections in India Despite its large population and poor sanitation, disease trackers are baffled by India's low rate of coronavirus infections.  Maybe it is India's lysine-rich diet of yogurt, lamb, chicken, fish curry that protects its population from viral disease.  The striking difference in the country-to-country prevalence of Herpes Simplex-2 infections (only 9.6% in South East Asian countries and 10.7% in Europe vs. 24.0% in the Americas and 43.9% in Africa) could be explained by the lysine/arginine ratio in native diets. Treat the severely ill; skip the problematic vaccines Vaccination is not fool proof.  Vaccinated patients are testing positive for COVID-19.  Doctors can choose to treat the 3 in 10,000 COVID-19 severely infected patients who are at risk for a mortal outcome with lysine rather than needlessly vaccinate billions of people.  Mass vaccination would not be needed, nor would lockdowns, quarantines and questionable mass face mask use be required.  The pandemic would be rapidly extinguished by a public information campaign regarding lysine-rich foods and dietary supplements.  The public can take action on its own today without adverse consequences.  Literally, trillions of dollars would be saved worldwide.  If not for COVID-19, at least for herpes infections. The shame is on the World Health Organization with a budget of $8.482 billion or the Centers For Disease Control with a budget of $7.875 billion that overlook safe and economical cures like lysine.  This report serves as evidence the world is being gamed to plunder the masses of their health and wealth.  The people of the world need to stop heeding advice from public health officials and practice preventive medicine on their own volition. There is additional evidence that lysine also halts the growth of influenza and coxsackie viruses. Further research Researchers at Bio-Virus Research Inc. are searching for research funds to further document the benefits of lysine therapy.      Omega-3 and Omega-6 supplement improves reading for children   University of Gothenburg, Sweden - September 14, 2021    Supplement of omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids may improve reading skills of mainstream schoolchildren, according to a new study from Sahlgrenska Academy, at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden. Children with attention problems, in particular, may be helped in their reading with the addition of these fatty acids.   The study included 154 schoolchildren from western Sweden in grade 3, between nine and ten years old. The children took a computer-based test (known as the Logos test) that measured their reading skills in a variety of ways, including reading speed, ability to read nonsense words and vocabulary.   The children were randomly assigned to receive either capsules with omega-3 and omega-6, or identical capsules that contained a placebo (palm oil) for 3 months. The children, parents and researchers did not learn until the study was completed which children had received fatty acids and which had received the placebo. After three months, all children received real omega-3/6 capsules for the final three months of the study.   "Even after three months, we could see that the children's reading skills improved with the addition of fatty acids, compared with those who received the placebo. This was particularly evident in the ability to read a nonsense word aloud and pronounce it correctly (phonologic decoding), and the ability to read a series of letters quickly (visual analysis time)," says Mats Johnson, who is chief physician and researcher at the Gillberg Neuropsychiatry Centre at Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg.   No children diagnosed with ADHD were included in the study, but with the help of the children's parents, the researchers could identify children who had milder attention problems. These children attained even greater improvements in several tests, including faster reading already after three months of receiving fatty acid supplements.   Polyunsaturated fats and their role in children's learning and behavior is a growing research area.   "Our modern diet contains relatively little omega-3, which it is believed to have a negative effect on our children when it comes to learning, literacy and attention," says Mats Johnson. "The cell membranes in the brain are largely made up of polyunsaturated fats, and there are studies that indicate that fatty acids are important for signal transmission between nerve cells and the regulation of signaling systems in the brain."   Previous studies in which researchers examined the effect of omega-3 as a supplement for mainstream schoolchildren have not shown positive results, something Mats Johnson believes may depend on how these studies were organized and what combination and doses of fatty acids were used. This is the first double-blind, placebo-controlled study showing that omega-3/6 improves reading among mainstream schoolchildren.   "Our study suggests that children could benefit from a dietary supplement with a special formula. To be more certain about the results, they should also be replicated in other studies," says Mats Johnson. The article Omega 3/6 fatty acids for reading in children: a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial in 9-year-old mainstream schoolchildren in Sweden was published by The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry.       Elevated stress hormones linked to higher risk of high blood pressure and heart events Kyoto University (Japan) & University of California at Los Angeles, Sept. 13, 2021  Adults with normal blood pressure and high levels of stress hormones were more likely to develop high blood pressure and experience cardiovascular events compared to those who had lower stress hormone levels, according to new research published today in Hypertension, an American Heart Association journal. Studies have shown that cumulative exposure to daily stressors and exposure to traumatic stress can increase cardiovascular disease risk. A growing body of research refers to the mind-heart-body connection, which suggests a person's mind can positively or negatively affect cardiovascular health, cardiovascular risk factors and risk for cardiovascular disease events, as well as cardiovascular prognosis over time. “The stress hormones norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine and cortisol can increase with stress from life events, work, relationships, finances and more. And we confirmed that stress is a key factor contributing to the risk of hypertension and cardiovascular events,” said study author Kosuke Inoue, M.D., Ph.D., assistant professor of social epidemiology at Kyoto University in Kyoto, Japan. Inoue also is affiliated with the department of epidemiology at the Fielding School of Public Health at the University of California, Los Angeles. “Previous research focused on the relationship between stress hormone levels and hypertension or cardiovascular events in patients with existing hypertension. However, studies looking at adults without hypertension were lacking,” Inoue said. “It is important to examine the impact of stress on adults in the general population because it provides new information about whether routine measurement of stress hormones needs to be considered to prevent hypertension and CVD events.” Study subjects were part of the MESA Stress 1 study, a substudy of the Multi-Ethnic Study of Atherosclerosis (MESA), a large study of atherosclerosis risk factors among more than 6,000 men and women from six U.S. communities. As part of MESA exams 3 and 4 (conducted between July 2004 and October 2006), white, Black and Hispanic participants with normal blood pressure from the New York and Los Angeles sites were invited to participate in the substudy MESA Stress 1. In this substudy, researchers analyzed levels of norepinephrine, epinephrine, dopamine and cortisol – hormones that respond to stress levels. Hormone levels were measured in a 12-hour overnight urine test. The substudy included 412 adults ages 48 to 87 years. About half were female, 54% were Hispanic, 22% were Black and 24% were white. Participants were followed for three more visits (between September 2005 and June 2018) for development of hypertension and cardiovascular events such as chest pain, the need for an artery-opening procedure, or having a heart attack or stroke. Norepinephrine, epinephrine and dopamine are molecules known as catecholamines that maintain stability throughout the autonomic nervous system—the system that regulates involuntary body functions such as heart rate, blood pressure and breathing. Cortisol is a steroid hormone released when one experiences stress and is regulated by the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis, which modulates stress response.  “Although all of these hormones are produced in the adrenal gland, they have different roles and mechanisms to influence the cardiovascular system, so it is important to study their relationship with hypertension and cardiovascular events, individually,” Inoue said.  Their analysis of the relationship between stress hormones and development of atherosclerosis found: Over a median of 6.5-year follow-up period, every time the levels of the four stress hormones doubled was associated with a 21-31% increase in the risk of developing hypertension. During a median of 11.2-years of follow-up, there was a 90% increased risk of cardiovascular events with each doubling of cortisol levels. There was no association between cardiovascular events and catecholamines. “It is challenging to study psychosocial stress since it is personal, and its impact varies for each individual. In this research, we used a noninvasive measure — a single urine test — to determine whether such stress might help identify people in need of additional screening to prevent hypertension and possibly cardiovascular events,” Inoue said. "The next key research question is whether and in which populations increased testing of stress hormones could be helpful. Currently, these hormones are measured only when hypertension with an underlying cause or other related diseases are suspected. However, if additional screening could help prevent hypertension and cardiovascular events, we may want to measure these hormone levels more frequently.” A limitation of the study is that it did not include people who had hypertension at the study's start, which would have resulted in a larger study population. Another limitation is that researchers measured stress hormones via a urine test only, and no other tests for stress hormone measurement were used.   Spirulina alleviates high fat diet-induced cognitive impairment via the gut-brain axis Weifang People's Hospital (China), September 9, 2021 Increasing evidence suggested that the gut microbiome-brain axis plays a critical role in regulating cognitive functions. In this study, we aimed to investigate the dietary treatment effect of Spirulina platensis on learning deficits in high fat diet (HFD) fed mice and clarify the potential mechanisms via investigating the gut microbiome-brain axis. Dietary administration of 1% and 2% Spirulina platensis for 16 weeks significantly improved the spatial learning and memory performance of the HFD-fed mice in both Barnes Maze test and Morris water maze test. The Aβ accumulation, tau-hyperphosphorylation, and neuroinflammation in the hippocampus were significantly inhibited by Spirulina platensis. Spirulina platensis also abrogated HFD induced gut microbial dysbiosis and unbalance of gut microbial metabolites indicating its modulating effect on the gut-brain axis. This study provides further evidence for the application of Spirulina platensis as functional supplement for treatment of Alzheimer's disease. Spirulina platensis was frequently used as both a food ingredient and a medical supplement to counteract various metabolic disorders worldwide. In the present study, we found that Spirulina platensis dietary supplementation significantly prevented the cognitive deficits induced by HFD- feeding in mice. For the first time, we identified the inhibition effect of Spirulina platensis on β-amyloid generation, tau-hyperphosphorylation, neuroinflammation, and the gut microbiota dysbiosis. In conclusion, the present study proved the beneficial effect of Spirulina platensis on cognitive impairment in HDF-fed AD mice and cleared Aβ, inhibited tau-hyperphosphorylation, and ameliorated neuroinflammation in the brain. Spirulina platensis also abrogated HFD induced gut microbial dysbiosis and unbalance of gut microbial metabolites indicating that Spirulina platensis might ameliorated cognitive deficits through regulating the gut-brain axis (Fig. 6). This study provides potent evidence for the application of Spirulina platensis as functional supplement for treatment of AD.   Regular exercise may lower risk of developing anxiety by almost 60% University of Lund (Sweden), September 13, 2021 A quick online search for ways to improve our mental health will often come up with a myriad of different results. However, one of the most common suggestions put forward as a step to achieving wellness—and preventing future issues—is doing some physical exercise, whether it be a walk or playing a team sport. Anxiety disorders—which typically develop early in a person's life—are estimated to affect approximately 10% of the world's population and has been found to be twice as common in women compared to men. And while exercise is put forward as a promising strategy for the treatment of anxiety, little is known about the impact of exercise dose, intensity or physical fitness level on the risk of developing anxiety disorders. To help answer this question, researchers in Sweden have published a study in Frontiers in Psychiatry to show that those who took part in the world's largest long-distance cross-country ski race (Vasaloppet) between 1989 and 2010 had a "significantly lower risk" of developing anxiety compared to non-skiers during the same period. The study is based on data from almost 400,000 people in one of the largest ever population-wide epidemiology studies across both sexes. Surprising finding among female skiers "We found that the group with a more physically active lifestyle had an almost 60% lower risk of developing anxiety disorders over a follow-up period of up to 21 years," said first author of the paper, Martine Svensson, and her colleague and principal investigator, Tomas Deierborg, of the Department of Experimental Medical Science at Lund University, Sweden. "This association between a physically active lifestyle and a lower risk of anxiety was seen in both men and women." However, the authors found a noticeable difference in exercise performance level and the risk of developing anxiety between male and female skiers. While a male skier's physical performance did not appear to affect the risk of developing anxiety, the highest performing group of female skiers had almost the double risk of developing anxiety disorders compared to the group which was physically active at a lower performance level. "Importantly," they said, "the total risk of getting anxiety among high-performing women was still lower compared to the more physically inactive women in the general population". These findings cover relatively uncharted territory for scientific research, according to the researchers, as most previous studies focused on depression or mental illness as opposed to specifically diagnosed anxiety disorders. Furthermore, some of the largest studies looking at this topic only included men, were much smaller in sample size, and had either limited or no follow-up data to track the long-term effects of physical activity on mental health. Next steps for research The surprising discovery of an association between physical performance and the risk for anxiety disorders in women also emphasized the scientific importance of these findings for follow-up research. "Our results suggest that the relation between symptoms of anxiety and exercise behavior may not be linear," Svensson said. "Exercise behaviors and anxiety symptoms are likely to be affected by genetics, psychological factors, and personality traits, confounders that were not possible to investigate in our cohort. Studies investigating the driving factors behind these differences between men and women when it comes to extreme exercise behaviors and how it affects the development of anxiety are needed." They added that randomized intervention trials, as well as long-term objective measurements of physical activity in prospective studies, are also needed to assess the validity and causality of the association they reported. But does this mean that skiing in particular can play an important role in keeping anxiety at bay, as opposed to any other form of exercise? Not so, Svensson and Deierborg said, given that previous studies have also shown the benefits of keeping fit on our mental health. "We think this cohort of cross-country skiers is a good proxy for an active lifestyle, but there could also be a component of being more outdoors among skiers," they said. "Studies focusing on specific sports may find slightly different results and magnitudes of the associations, but this is most likely due to other important factors that affect mental health and which you cannot easily control in research analysis.   Gut microbes are key to health benefit delivered by hops compound Oregon State University, September 13, 2021 The health-enhancing performance of a compound found in hops is dependent upon its interactions with intestinal microorganisms, new research by Oregon State University shows. Understanding how xanthohumol, often abbreviated as XN, works is important for unlocking its potential to counter diet-induced obesity and the health risksassociated with a global obesity epidemic, including type 2 diabetes and liver and heart disease, researcher Adrian Gombart says. "We showed that the gut microbiota are necessary for the beneficial effects of XN on glucose metabolism," said Gombart, professor of biochemistry and biophysics in the OSU College of Science and a principal investigator at the university's Linus Pauling Institute. "There is an important interaction between the compound and the microbes in the gut that provides the benefits we see in our studies with mice." Gombart led a team of 20 scientists from three Oregon State colleges in research that compared the glucose metabolism effects of xanthohumol on two sets of mice: "conventional" ones with gut microbiota, and those engineered to be "germ free," i.e. have no gut microbes. Glucose metabolism, the body's ability to convert the sugar into fuel, generally suffers impairment as someone becomes obese, which in turn can lead to the person becoming more overweight. Faulty glucose metabolism also negatively affects brain physiology and is at the root of multiple medical conditions including diabetes and heart disease. In previous studies involving mice, Gombart and colleagues found that XN improved the animals' health and changed the composition of their microbiome, the latter leading them to suspect that the mix of microbes played a role in XN's healthful effects. "In this study, we fed mice either a diet low in calories, high in calories, or high in calories but supplemented with XN for 10 weeks," he said. "We found that only the conventional mice with XN supplementation showed improved glucose metabolism and that XN increased the relative abundance of three bacteria, Akkermansia muciniphila, Parabacteroides goldsteinii and Alistipes finegoldii." Gombart added that the study yielded some evidence that those three microbes are at least partially responsible for the health benefits associated with XN, but the entire microbial community may be playing a role as well. "We can't rule that out," he said. "We know that XN needs the intestinal microbiota to deliver its benefits, and there are complex diet-host-microbiota interactions that bring changes in both microbial composition and functional capacity. Diet is recognized as a major force in shaping gut microbe composition, and future studies will look for insights into the various interactions at play." Earlier mouse model studies by co-author Fred Stevens, professor of pharmaceutical sciences in the OSU College of Pharmacy and also a principal investigator at the Linus Pauling Institute , have shown that XN, a polyphenol found in hops' cones, has a number of anti-obesity properties. It improves cognitive function and it suppresses weight gain associated with a high-fat diet, fat accumulation in adipose tissue and insulin resistance. Insulin resistance is when cells don't respond well to the hormone that allows for the uptake of glucose from the bloodstream. It causes the pancreas to make more and more insulin to keep blood glucose levels within a non-harmful range and is a risk factor for non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.   Antioxidant protects neurons   University of Edinburgh   September 12 2021    Research involving a potent antioxidant, described in Scientific Reports, suggests that the compound could help protect cells in several conditions, including Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosisand cell transplants. In their report, a team from the University of Edinburgh observe that the flavonoids quercetin and myricetin are among the most potent dietary antioxidants. Structural modification of myricetin has resulted in the development a new compound known as Proxison. In the current research, Proxison demonstrated 10 times the ability to protect against oxidative stress induced by the compound tert-Butyl hydroperoxide (tBHP) in neuroblastoma cells compared to quercetin, while several other antioxidants showed no effects. Proxison, as well as a high concentration of quercetin, also provided significant protection against cell death in tBHP-treated cells. Similar results were obtained in another neural cell line. An investigation of the antioxidants' ability to be taken up by the cells showed significant intracellular levels of quercetin and Proxison, and evidence for some localization of Proxison in the cells' mitochondria. In zebrafish embryos, Proxison helped protect against neuronal cell loss induced by a neurotoxic compound. Quercetin was also protective, but was less potent than Proxison. Neither therapy affected normal embryonic development. “This novel antioxidant can be applied to investigate oxidative stress in disease models, like alpha-synucleinopathies and other neurodegeneration models,” Nicola J. Drummond and colleagues conclude. “In addition, Proxison could have applications for regenerative medicine where oxidative stress has been implicated in poor cell survival of transplanted cells, with the advantage that the molecule can be pre-loaded into cells prior to transplantation. Proxison could also have applications for conditions, such as stroke or cardiac infarction, in which a temporary, but acute, exposure to oxidative stress is experienced, as well as diseases in which oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction are core features.”

You is smart, You is kind, You is Important (The Help 'Movie')   Ok so I think this is the perfect time before the end of a uniquely odd year and before the new year that we should truly reflect but also start (for some) a true journey into ourselves so that we can start shedding off this shitty layer to which we believe we are not worth success, love, drive and acceptance. It all start with you! This is a tough journey and I am not going to sugar coat it, but I would never talk about something unless I had gone through it myself and I have and now I can't wait for you to start and see how amazing (try and count how many times I use this word in the ep...facepalm) you really are, let alone how the world changes when you gain the power through loving and accepting yourself.    Today I talk through why it's normal to feel weird about loving yourself, why guilt and selfishness is not allowed to be a cover to hide under and neither is envy or comparison. YOU ARE YOU- no one else can be you but you...Isn't that actually insane!   Oh and i even take you through a little manifestation meditation exercise to hopefully shed off a couple of specks of negative dust on yourself ;) xx   >>HEELS DOWN FITNESS APP IS NOW LIVE FOR BOTH IOS AND ANDROID!!  >>Download in your app stores today!  >>. use code: WELCOME20 for 20% off HDF programs

The Construction Life

Zak walks us through his early days, university days and how he got into painting, how a flyer left on his classroom desk for student painters inspired him to become a painter. Manny follows that up with telling home owners that painting is a justifiable and skilled trade and not everyone especially clients thinking because some idiot taught them to do a “W” on a wall gives clients the experience they require to paint. Painting is 95% about prep and 5% about painting. Understood?Painters are the last trade on site and are expected to repair, cover up, rebuild, rework all of trades before them and that’s not fair to painters and the homeowners. A first on TCL, Manny compares open miters left for painters to deal with to a Penial Surgeon leaving a gap and not expecting the patient to be unhappy.Zak walks us through his steps, from first day arrival to the final reveal, what products and techniques, all of the great insider tips. Step ONE – tape and mask everything with the correct tape and that even goes for stucco ceilings. Lighting is paramount on a jobsite, from installed fixtures to flood lights like the Festool unit. Clients dictating which brand of paint right down to primers, is this fair for the experienced contractor and the results that contractors have achieved through on site real world experience? Color matching and what to consider based on each brand and the substrates an blacklisted colors and why. Note that every single kind of surface has it’s own type of primer to use and professional painters know this and how to once again prep things. Then we get into sprayers and what really makes a good sprayer. Best practices when priming poplar, MDF, HDF, LDF and CDF, a new name for a crappy product to Pine finger joint, Maple, Cedar it is all shellac primers. Getting into older homes and testing for oil or lead based paints, Zak offers up a great Trade Tip. We discuss prepping and priming and painting drywall in a perfect world. We wrap things up with drying time and prep times and the correct times it takes to paint professionally. Lastly, we reveal our favorite colors, a hint at wallpaper and venetian plastering, and lacquers, a few topics we will be discussing on the next “paint” podcast.Zak and his crew has always worked by the philosophy, try to help the person behind you, in front of you and who hired you. It is a great way to handle the scope of work and daily ups and downs.Don’t forget we have Construction History from Manny at the beginning of the show, Building Code Talk with Manny at the midpoint and Green Book Talk with Carlito at the near end.Thank You Zak so much for joining the show and sharing so much great insight about painting, construction, renovations and more. Welcome to the TREPX Podcast. This is Micky Deming and I have another interview to share with you today that is going to blow your mind! I had a chance to chat with my friend Matt Gottesman of Trep Media Group, so no relation, but another Trep out there. Matt is an expert in creating media, creating engagement, creating community. The stuff he and his friend Kace Kenny have been doing with Trep Media Group and the different brands, Hustle and Deal Flow, The Hustle Sold Separately Podcast in Pursuit where they have just generated an incredible community through the content they’ve created, through the engagement and I asked him all about how that’s possible because there is so much content out there. How when you’re specializing in media and content, how do you stand out? How do you get anyone to care and to actually connect with you? Well, Matt has figured it out and when you hear what he says in this interview, you’re going to learn so many things you’re probably doing wrong. I know I did. Things that I can do better and Matt breaks it down into some very simple ways of how you can actually build a following, build a network, get people to gather around what you’re doing, so you’re going to love this interview. So I am going to stop talking so we can get right into it. Matt was so much fun to chat with, total expert. Check out everything he’s up to. You can see their main site at TrepMediaGroup.com and then check out what Matt’s up to. Most of his time is spent at Hustle and Deal Flow Magazine. You can find that at HDFMagazine.com. So thanks so much to Matt for taking the time. Check out this interview at TREPXGroup.com and you can see all of the links to everything Matt’s up to, but without further ado, please enjoy this interview with Matt Gottesman. Micky Deming: (02:22) Hello, Matt! Welcome to the TREPX Podcast. How are you doing? Matt Gottesman:  (02:25) I’m good, I’m good, Micky! Thank you for having me on. Micky Deming: (02:28) Thanks for being here! It’s awesome that we got to connect in your warm home of Arizona last week! I am back here in Illinois where it’s cold, but I’m glad we can connect on this podcast! There are so many things to talk about. Let’s just start with the big picture. With Trep Media you have a lot of different things going on. So can you just give an overview of what you’re up to right now? Matt Gottesman:  (02:53) Yeah, absolutely! So you mentioned Trep Media Group and it was formed by my partner Kace Kenny and I. Kace, he created Prsuit.com and about a year ago we met via Instagram. We love sharing that story! That is a whole other story. We met via Instagram. He saw what I was doing with HDFMagazine.com, which is our other publication he direct messaged me and said I’d love to talk with you and I said alright. He said so you interview creators from around the world that are really building on their hustle, you know they are demonstrating the hustle and they haven’t been glorified by mainstream media just yet and I feature over 400 contributors from around the world, authors, who are writing about their experiences and their journey and their stories. So I don’t know what the synergies are yet, but I’d love to explore of the next so much time and so we did and as both of us continued to grow, we also reached out to our audience a lot more to figure out what they wanted. As they started telling us more things, it then later helped us establish a webinar academy forum for people for doing all things blogging and publications and digital media and then that lead to creating a podcast. It is mostly because we just listened to our audiences and if what they tell is on brand for our end goal or mission, then we will do. If not, then we are just grateful for the input from our audience. Micky Deming: (04:34) That’s perfect! I think that is a great summary and for the listeners out there, when you check this out you’re going to see just so much content. I want to talk to you about the content, but before that I want to go back for a second and talk about just the focus on the journey and on the hustle. You even said it was intentional to not go after contributors who had already arrived or already attained some level of status. Can you talk about the mindset you had in that and how you worked through the focus on who you want to feature? Matt Gottesman:  (05:12) Yeah, yeah so when I wanted to do an entrepreneurial blog, publication if you will, I had a lot of people say oh that’s never been done before, good luck with that. I said I really want to do something different, so I mostly just kept my mouth shut and I thought about. I said I would work with really big brands and I’d work with venture capital firms, and I worked with a lot of success stories or would be success stories. One of the things I noticed about media is that a lot, and God bless all of them, but a lot of times they feature that end success.  So and so sold for half a billion dollars, so and so got acquired for 100 million dollars, we can all learn from their success. Here are the things that they learned along the way. I thought about it and I said you know, there are people building every single day that to me, their story is more relevant and their journey is more relevant. We need to feature more people like that because when it’s happening in real time you’re capturing the magic of what they’re doing and why they’re doing it. The second thing is that I noticed was that when you see the Elon Musk’s of the world and the Oprah’s and all of these great, fantastic people or people who have created these massive tech companies, you start seeing a lot of people who wanted to create their own company. They’re like I’m going to create the next unicorn or the next multi-million, multi-billion dollar company, but there they’re going after it for the wrong reasons. I was like no, if you actually watch people who are really passionate about what they’re doing. They know their why, they know their vision, and they’re building on, you will see it will be more like a pay it forward that you’ll actually want to do it yourself. So I think, ok. Let me feature people who maybe they’re making about high five figures, now six, seven, even there are a few people in there that are making eight figures, I mean that’s ten million dollars, but mainstream media hasn’t really grabbed a hold of them just yet. To me they’re every day heroes because they’re demonstrating if they put their minds to what they want to do and their vision and put that into action then the details will be revealed to them. To me, if a reader sees that goes you know what, that’s like my colleague or my friend or my associate, they’re only eight months out, their only a year and a half out, they’re only two years out, I can do that too. Micky Deming: (07:45) I love that! That’s a great focus and it makes a ton of sense and I think your right in when you feature the end result, then that’s what people are really focusing on. The other drawback to that, and this has come up a lot on this podcast with people I’ve talked to and then it’s come up again and again, some of the people that have what would you call “arrived” or reached that like plateau that they were going after have said that once they got there they were a little bit unsatisfied. It wasn’t what they thought it would be and so you have to learn to enjoy the moment you’re in, enjoy that present state, and not just focus on this destination off in the future. You may never get there or it may not look like what you think it’s going to look like. Matt Gottesman:  (08:32) Right, absolutely, and then if you focus too hard on the end result you’re not as flexible. You’re not as flexible for pivoting in the process or embracing the process because you’re so dead-set on what the end is going to look like. All you have to have is a vision of the end. The rest is in the details and will be revealed to you while you’re building. Micky Deming: (08:54) That’s awesome. What are some other big takeaways you’ve had just from telling these stories and hearing from people that are in it day to day? Matt Gottesman:  (09:03) Well, part of it for me was I almost wanted to approach it like a Malcolm Gladwell Outliers prospective, where he went around the world and more or less the book is about seeing how people think. That their success is not necessarily determined by where they come from or their school or any of these other things. So for me, I wanted to know are there some underlying themes amongst all of these different type of creator-type people no matter where they come from in the world that that’s why they’re doing what they’re doing? So it’s been really interesting hearing their stories. The best part is, some of them tell me you’re “Oprahing” me, like it’s weird, I never tell anybody this stuff! So they really open up. Obviously I always want to keep it very positive and I am very collaborative in this process. I am not actually always the final say. I create the content and then I work with the person I interview and say did I capture your tone? Does this really tell your story? So this is that is the other thing is responsible journalism I knew that a lot of people want the quick story because just content, content, content. I was like no, I’m going to do responsible journalism. I actually want to capture the entire story and I want to do it collaboratively with the individual and so there is a lot of collaboration and relationship building in this. Yes, I did learn that they do have a lot of similarities and values and mindset and backgrounds in terms of being misunderstood. Giving more value to their company and then realizing that they’re not necessarily being valued, so they do it on their own. Embracing being different, thinking different, and using different means to build something and grow, finding their passion. We’re now in a time where more than ever people are unsatisfied, or at least more vocal about being unsatisfied, with going after the job solely for the money or for the title or for anything. The more we’re seeing other people embrace their passions and going after something that they want and are willing to put that work in and the more transparent that is, the more people who are not doing that are really starting to questions themselves much younger and much faster. Micky Deming: (11:25) Yeah, those are all good points. I think you have really tapped into something! And telling the authenticate story is so important. I want to get into that with creating content, because you kind of hinted at this at the beginning in just that we are not short on content in the world and we’re not short on information and so when you pursue something like this, that’s the question, why is anyone going to listen to you? Or how are you going to stand out? You guys have really carved out an identity to where you’ve cut through the noise and I think that is something a lot of people are like, I’m going to start putting out content and they do it for a couple of weeks or couple of months and they’re like nobody cares and they stop. So how have you approached content? You’ve shared a little bit about the storytelling and journalism, but how have you created an identity so that people are actually caring and noticing what you’re putting out there? Matt Gottesman:  (12:19) So at the end of the day, the brand is so important. Your why and your messaging has to come out all the way through everything that you do and that’s a big reason why your content will grow and your following and your engagement will grow. So if you know your “why” and you deliver that through the content, people will feel it. They will understand exactly what you stand for. Oh, he interviewed this person and that makes complete sense. Oh, he posted this post and that makes sense. You know it’s HDF, that’s pursuit, that’s Trep Media, that makes sense. So it’s constantly being aware of why we’re doing what we’re doing and then delivering that all the way through any piece of content that we launch, right? I think it all starts basically there and then branding for me, it’s interesting because first of all I don’t like the word guru or any of those like experts because I think we’re always all learning. It’s funny when people are like you, “so you’re like this branding expert guy”. I’m like, I know what I like and very particular with content. Even the way it aesthetically looks because I learn from a lot of graphic designers and designers and branders and people that taught me a lot about it. It allowed me to bring that out through the way we bring our brands out. I know that not only do what we want to deliver really break content, but we want it to be highly consumable for people. If you just throw up a bunch of words everywhere, that’s too much and if you don’t do any words or anything, that’s too little. So how do you bring out the essence of what it is you’re creating through both a look and through communication, through verbiage? That’s where we really think about it from the very beginning and my business partners are all great because they know how I feel about branding and messaging. While they’re awesome at it as well, they’re like hey go to town and do what you do right here. Micky Deming: (14:30) That’s great! Well, it all fits in with what you were saying before in just that you didn’t want to feature the people had arrived. So right there, that’s a brand, that’s something you guys are committing to and then even just the feel of everything when you go to the sites. There is such a consistency. You talked, before we started the interview, about just the focus on quality over quantity.  Everybody says that, but I think a lot of times people don’t practice it. They think, you know, if I can just hit this number then momentum is bound to happen. You guys really went the other direction. Even though at this point your quantity is pretty outrageous, your focus was not really on quantity. Can you just share what your mindset was on that? Matt Gottesman:  (15:12) Yeah, the goal is you always want to focus on your end viewer, customer, follower, your audience. Focus solely on them. There is no competition. I say that a lot, there is no competition. The only competition is yourself. I know you hear that cliché all the time and what I mean is, how can I keep bettering and bettering content and my “why” for the end person that I am doing this for? When you that, they feel what you are doing. They feel what you are creating. Taking the time to do that, a lot of times, people they want all the likes on their posts. I want the comments. Comments are showing that they’re actually wanting to have a conversation with me and they’re telling me more information. You know some of the big marketing agencies out there would like to know that is also called market research. On any given day I have 100,000 people that I have access to that will get me information for market research, so I no longer have to go pay 15 grand for market research or 150 grand for market research companies to go do that, per say. I detracted there a little bit, but the idea though is you want engagement. You want your followers, I think it was Gary Vaynerchuck who said I’d rather have 80,000 followers, but 70,000 of them just ready to go to war for you. They’re ready for you. They’re ready to do whatever it is that you’re building, right? Versus 1 million people and only 30 thousand of them are engaged enough to do something. So that is so highly important when you’re building a brand because they’re growing with you and they’re telling you everything that you need to know that will help you pivot or make changes along the way as you brand. I said quality over quantity because the quality will eventually get you to a place where it’s felt by so many people that the quantity will be there. So yeah, I want to the 80,000 with 70,000 strong and I’ll take a million with 900,000 strong because I took the time to build it the right that I will never saturate my audience and never do anything at the detriment of them and that I’m always bring thy to them. If you’re always bringing thy to them that’s just going to grow and it shows. Micky Deming: (17:42) That is really interesting stuff! I love that it’s all about engagement! Really you’re describing it that your content is like your product, as if you’re a business. It’s like that start up, if you build it, they will come. You put it out there, but then nobody comes. It’s all about that feedback and iteration. I love the way you said if you can just create one post and just get some people to interact with it, even if they think it sucks, you get some engagement and then you can kind of move from there which is more productive than 10 posts that nobody really looks at. So I’m curious for listeners here because I think that’s something people are really going to take a lot away from that and how to create engagement. What do you do early on when you don’t have an audience, you don’t have engagement? How do you get that initial engagement and for people to start the conversation? How did you guys do it? Matt Gottesman:  (18:37) You know it’s funny, I was just in a meeting with a couple of guys before this who have an awesome start up that they’re focusing on the LA market and we were just talking about this. They had really content, but now they’re realizing, you know we need to grow and audience early on. Interesting enough, it’s a mixture of two things. It’s figuring out, for example we use Instagram heavily. That’s been our main mediums and we figured out, ok we want to not only deliver our message so it’s about that initial first piece of content.  That first piece of content that they view is so important because once you grab their attention, now you have to continue to give them value. In that caption, you’re giving them some form of value that either they’re going to like, comment, or follow because of it. Now, for them to get to find you is a whole other list of strategies, right? So the hashtags are one of them and here’s a quick time for anybody that is listening with Instagram. I don’t do my hashtags inside the caption, I do it inside the comment, so I’m the first comment. I put them in there and then after other people comment you know those just basically disappear. There basically not even relevant anyway after about 24 hours or even a few hours probably. So it’s the hashtags and then social networking, I think this is the part that a lot of people miss, there is a reason it’s called social network. I am social and I’m networking with other people, so I might use photos of photographers or  giving full credits I approach them and say, hey I love your work, I’d like to feature this. They say absolutely! It’s using a combination of tactics whereby I’m giving. I give people the credit if I use one of their photos if it’s not just one of my or my own post and I’m also giving thought around particular subjects that I know what my audience wants or the things that they’re trying to work through, or pain points, whatever. It’s very lean startup. They will then come find you. They will find you because people like that are initially looking for information like that and so that hash tags help for the searching. Using other people’s awesome work and giving them credit. You think about what happens there, right? Not a lot of people know how the algorithm of Instagram works. If I’m at 500 and somebody has like 5,000 followers likes my photo that actually ends up in the search algorithm. Meaning their followers, if anybody has ever looked in the search category it will say based on people you follow, that’s why this picture is coming up. There are a lot of different things that attract you, so you want to constantly interact with other counts, bring awareness to them and they bring awareness to you. You like them, they like you. There are a lot of different things. It’s very social and as long as you’ve got great content and good messaging, people tend to start rallying around that. As you get throughout the algorithm, if you’re giving value from your account, it grows it. There’s other things, but that’s a whole other conversation. Micky Deming: (21:51) That’s great! No but, I mean everything you’re saying is so important and it’s like it’s so obvious that it seems like isn’t everybody doing it that way. I guess it’s just easier to focus on getting the content out there rather than the engagement. Another thing you guys have done really, really well is to curate content and bring others in and the strength of your brand I think helps in that because you’re not bringing in others and then making it like inconsistent. Are you the editor? How do you go through that process to filter through what you run and how do you find this content that you’re bringing together? Matt Gottesman:  (22:36) So there’s twofold, so with Kace and Pursuit, he is the editor in chief and he’s curating from authors from around the world. He’s really particular about great content because he is focused on the millennial driven man. Mine are half and half millennial driven men and women. He is constantly looking for content that helps, is relevant for his audience, and is thought provoking. As he says, that is this perspective and inspires? He is always right there at his core of is this a perspective that will inspire my audience member and if yes, great. He is constantly on that and he’s got a whole system which I’m sure you’ll learn from him when you speak to him. On my side, it’s 100% original content. It’s all me actually doing the editing and the interviewing. Some people thing I’m a content freak at this point because I’m very long from content. Some of these are like 5-7 thousand words, but I also believe that’s where we are heading with content. You hear Google and a lot of other outlets talk about where we’re heading with content and going more towards relevant. It’s not about how much content you put out, but as much as how great it is. There you go, quality over quantity again. It is coming up a lot more. I look for people who they are very clear as to why they’re creating and it’s almost like vetting for venture capitalists. Like the way venture capitalists vet people. I’m looking at their character. I’m looking at why they’re building what they’re building. I’m looking at who’s rallying around what they’re building because if there are a lot of people rallying around it that, that are following them, some of these people might have like 15-20 thousand followers or 5,000 followers or they’re getting some interesting looks at them or people are trying and testing out their products or they’re really embracing what they’re trying to build and grow. So those networks are really important so growth hack for anybody listening, what happens is I’ll feature these people.  Now a lot of these people, not all of them, but a lot of them are marketing driven because they’re very active on social. So what do you think happens if I feature somebody who has 100,000 followers or 200,000 followers and they then say hey I just did a great sit down interview with HDFMagazine.com, here’s where you can go check out? Well they’re going to send it out through their networks and drive that traffic back to my site, right? So it’s very reciprocity. On one hand I’m bringing out these people to life with their awesome endeavors and ventures and what they’re doing and then the return is that as they also spread that it drives traffic back to my site. So I either capture them on my list, which grows daily, or get them into the essence of HDF and our why and rally people around that. Then they all get to see that great feature on the person that they already have relationship with. Yes, I’m very particular about their character, why they’re doing what they’re doing, how they interact with their audiences, and I see where their heading. That part I can’t really explain. That’s just sort of something I see where they’re heading and a lot of times I think that I’m about a year to year and a half before they’re so out there mainstream media will capture them. The other great thing about that is, here’s another great grow fact for HDF, I look at it from an SEO perspective too because I’m pretty good with SEO. Actually I really love my SEO. I’m not going to sugarcoat all of that. I really love my SEO. Micky Deming: (26:20) You’re a guru. Matt Gottesman:  (26:21) A guru, right, yeah! So what I realized is, ok, when all of those publications come out with a feature, right? What do they all do? Richard Branson did this and this and this and this and you’re like that’s awesome. Then the next magazine, you know, three things that Richard Branson. It’s like when magazines are all kind of fighting for the same story, but they have to kind of tweak it to make it for their own brand and their own. Then when you go to search that person you just see nothing but all kinds of articles on that person and it’s just too much information. Well, so what I looked at is I am going to do these things, these features, on people who they haven’t been bombarded by that stuff yet. So once they are, I will have already had a year to get on the first page of Google. So that way when those stories actually do come out on them everybody will be like who the hell is HDF Magazine? How is he everywhere on all of these people? What I started to notice is that I’m actually ending up on the first page of Google within 90-120 days with some of these features. So my theory didn’t just work. I was actually really surprised of like this is 90-120 days and then some of them are getting small features on some of these other publications so I am actually now beating them on the first page of Google ahead of your major publications, and I mean MAJOR, who have millions of views a day. So relevancy, contents, timing, all of these things really go. Promotion, marketing of it all of them really go hand in hand. Micky Deming: (27:55) Yeah and one thing you haven’t really said directly, but it’s been basically a theme throughout everything you’ve said is just how much you’re listening. You know your audience well and then you’re listening to what they’re saying, you’re asking for feedback directly from them, and not only that but just paying attention and viewing what’s going on. Would you say that’s really a driving force in everything you guys are doing? Matt Gottesman:  (28:17) Yeah, yeah it’s no different than a startup. It’s no different than tech companies. It’s no different than product companies. You always just listen to your audience and be out there listening to trends and what’s happening and deciding whether or not that fits with your why and where you’re heading. We watch and we see a lot of other brands out there and we have to be knowledgeable of the other brands. So when I say no competition it’s because we’re not really trying to compete any of these other brands, but we do have to be knowledgeable of what they’re doing. Only because if we are going to play in the same field as them with certain things, we have to make sure then that we deliver it on brand for what we believe in and who we would deliver it, right? So there is listening all across the board, just listening to your audience and just listening to the industry, but yet keeping blinders on from the industry sometimes. That’s why I said in a presentation at start up week a couple of weeks ago, if industry doesn’t offer you what you’re looking for, you have to create it, right? Sometimes you have to put blinders on and just create the way you think it needs to be created with the audience in mind and that requires a lot of listening. Micky Deming: (29:34) That is awesome! There is a blueprint for quality content, engagement, and building a community. I am very grateful. This has been a blast! Matt Gottesman:  (29:47) Thank you so much, Micky! This is great! It was great meeting you in person last week. Micky Deming: (29:50) I know, we’ve got to do it again! I need to get back to Arizona. Besides in Arizona, where can everybody find out about all this good stuff and add to your community? Matt Gottesman:  (30:00) Yeah so, on Instagram we are @HDFMagazine. I know you’ve probably mentioned it, but HDF stands for Hustle and Deal Flow. So HDFMagazine on Instagram and Facebook we are HDF Magazine and of course HDFMagazine.com. People can reach me at info@HDFMagazine.com and they can check out our media group of properties at Trep Media Groups, that’s TrepMediaGroup.com. Yeah we’re approachable and we’re findable. We love when people hit us up and tell us what they think or what they’re looking to do or now we’re working with some really cool sponsors. Whether you’re a company or just supporter or somebody who has great content, we love hearing from everybody. Micky Deming: (30:45) Great stuff! Yeah we’ll have to check that out and join the conversation. Matt, thanks so much this has been awesome! We’ll definitely talk to you soon! Matt Gottesman:  (30:53) Great! What is Laqunimod?  Laquinimod is an experimental drug from TEVA Pharmaceuticals that has already been tested in previous clinical trials in several diseases including Multiple Sclerosis (MS).  This drug is thought to affect (or modulate) immune activity by shifting an injurious inflammatory situation to one that is more protective and anti-inflammatory. There is also evidence from various clinical trials that laquinimod may delay progression of disability in MS, and that it reduces brain atrophy as measured by MRI brain scans.  By reducing brain atrophy, this drug may have neuroprotective effects [Varrin-Doyer 2014]. This drug can trigger  protective neuron factors like BDNF (as measured in blood of MS clinical trial participants) that supports the health of neurons.   We will be talking about LEGATO-HD clinical research trial that will test the safety of Laquinimod.

Senescence in vitro and ionising radiations—the human diploid fibroblast model

The influence of ionising radiations on ageing is still controversial. Since Hayflick established the concept that diploid cells have finite lifespan in vitro, human diploid fibroblast (HDF) cultures have been recognised as a potent experimental model for cytogerontological investigations. In this study HDF cultures in phase II were exposed to acute irradiation with either X-rays on fast neutrons. The replicative potentials and labelling indices with [3H]thymidine were measured post irradiation until the cultures ceased growth in phase III. Cell mortality was measured by cloning. The apparent loss in replicative potential of irradiated mass cultures was wholly attributable to the loss of viable clonogenic cells. The current concept of precocious clonal senescence in vitro as a late effect of irradiation in clonogenic survivors is not supported by the present experiments. Instead, our results suggest that exposure to a single dose of ionising radiations either causes total replicative incapacitation (killing) of HDF cells and their progeny early after irradiation or leaves their replicative potentials unperturbed.
