The depth of inquiry into our personal narratives moves even the best essays away from a nice recounting of facts and events and what happened to what did it all mean? There's more to your story than facts and events. Our stories become memorable when we deeply explore our lived experience, become curious about our motivations, what was at stake, the choices we made, the risks we took, and then reflect on how those experiences earned us a hard-won lesson. To get started recording a lived memory moment experience you recall—maybe the first job you ever had or the first time you stood up for yourself—set down the time, place and setting of the facts and events as you remember them. Next, capture highlights of the character (that would be you), who she was, how she was living her life, and why we might care about her. What was the event that upended her daily routine and set her up to want something different for herself? What was the problem that got in the way of what she wanted and how did she overcome it? Now we're embarking on the depth of inquiry. We focus our attention on the character's underlying emotions, feelings, fears, doubts, struggles, and values. These personal truths help us understand the meaning of what has happened when her routine was upended, what was at stake for her, and why she chooses to do what she does to get what she so keenly desires, come what may. When we dig deep into our lived experiences by asking difficult questions, refusing to accept our initial reactions, and allowing the story to lead us, we transform surface answers into self-awareness, self-understanding, and self-affirmation. Regulatory for Private Funds Hello, this is Hall T. Martin with the Startup Funding Espresso -- your daily shot of startup funding and investing. Regulatory for private funds includes venture capital funds. VC funds can find an exemption from regulatory requirements by one of the following: Having fewer than 100 owners in the fund. This excludes entities created for the purpose of investing in the fund, such as SPVs or Special Purpose Vehicles. This is known as Section 3(c)(1). A qualifying venture capital fund can have up to 250 beneficial owners if the fund is less than $10M. It must pursue a venture capital investment strategy. It cannot be highly leveraged with debt. It cannot have redemption rights. Section 3(c)(7) concerns a fund that requires qualified investors. A fund cannot have more than 1,999 investors, so it's not a reporting company. Only qualified investors, not accredited investors, can invest. Qualified investors have $5M invested or they are an entity with $25M of investments. Review the regulatory requirements around a venture capital fund before launching one. We remember the American Revolution through its battlefields: Lexington and Concord, Bunker Hill, Trenton, Saratoga, and Yorktown. We picture Washington crossing the Delaware, Continental soldiers enduring brutal winters, and British redcoats marching across the colonies.But George Washington was fighting another war at the same time.Smallpox was moving through North America, and the Continental Army was extraordinarily vulnerable. Thousands of men lived together in crowded camps. Recruits arrived from rural communities where exposure to the disease had been limited. One outbreak could incapacitate a regiment without the British firing a shot.Washington understood the danger better than most. He had survived smallpox himself as a young man. At first, his answer was quarantine and strict prohibition of inoculation. Deliberately infecting healthy soldiers with smallpox seemed almost as dangerous as allowing the disease to spread naturally.Then the evidence began to change.The disastrous Canadian campaign demonstrated what smallpox could do to an army. Events in Boston suggested that controlled inoculation might offer another path. Her advocacy focuses on the intergenerational effects of combat injury, including how a veteran parent's symptoms shape a child's development, attachment, and role in the family. She is a member of the Hidden Helpers Coalition and delivered the keynote address at the 2025 Elizabeth Dole Foundation National Convening in Washington, D.C. Jesus Is King: The Discipleship Gospel Jonathan Storment, argues that entering God's kingdom requires repentance—surrendering to Jesus as King under His authority. Using stories ranging from a traffic-stop misunderstanding to conversion, he explains that rebellion against authority runs deep in humanity. He warns that American churches can become “sociological, not Christological,” reshaping Jesus to fit cultural, political, or personal preferences. Citing examples like Jefferson's cut-up Bible, the slave Bible, the Jesus Seminar, and altered Chinese Bible passages, he says some “Jesuses” and gospels must be rejected.
