There's something about being on a motorcycle that just feels right — in ways that are hard to explain, but easy to recognize. Not long ago on the show, cognitive scientist Mark Changizi, author of Motorcycle Mind, talked about how riding a motorcycle is unlike anything else we do, because the physics involved mean the bike responds directly to your body — your balance, your inputs, your movement — reacting instantly, almost like a hybrid of human and machine moving as one. That connection sharpens focus and pulls you fully into the moment, and according to Changizi, it can change how our brains process space, motion, and risk. Those changes don't necessarily stop when the bike is shut off, and for some people, riding becomes a place to return to — a way forward when other things aren't working, a focus when life is closing in — and that idea sits at the center of today's episode, as Rusty David shares his story. This episode contains a brief reference to suicide. I break down why self-worth isn't a motivation problem and why trying to “think” your way into confidence rarely works. I explain how your identity is built from predictable behavioral patterns and how your nervous system resists change that feels unfamiliar or threatening. We dive into the biology behind self-worth, including dopamine, serotonin, and norepinephrine, and how they shape drive, discipline, and resilience. Finally, I lay out practical steps you can use to rebuild self-worth through action, repetition, and new patterns.SHOW HIGHLIGHTS00:00 - Why Self-Worth Isn't a Motivation Problem01:07 - Identity as Predictable Patterns02:37 - The Rider and the Elephant03:56 - Why the Brain Rejects Change05:16 - Self-Worth as a Felt Experience06:59 - Dopamine and Direction07:12 - Serotonin and Self-Control08:21 - Norepinephrine and Resilience09:28 - Why Change Feels Like Death11:07 - Practical Steps to Rebuild Self-Worth14:56 - Self-Worth Is Built Through Action***Tired of feeling like you're never enough? Adventure riding has a strange relationship with risk. We prepare, carry tools, research routes, ride with friends, and do everything we can to stack the odds in our favour on adventure motorcycle rides. But every now and then, something appears that wasn't on the map or in the plan, and it shows up faster than we can process it. In those moments, the problem isn't just the obstacle itself, but what happens next. This story takes place on a remote stretch of Nevada's historic Pony Express Trail, a well-known backcountry route for adventure riders—experienced riders, familiar terrain, and a route travelled for generations. It's the kind of ride where preparation feels like it should be enough, until it isn't, and decisions suddenly matter in ways you don't expect when riding far from help.

If you've ever wondered why your “year 2” doesn't look like someone else's “year 15,” this episode is for you. Rider (TV narration, promo, and one of the most compelling keynote speakers you'll hear at a conference) breaks down the truth behind “overnight success” in voice over, what actually compounds over time, and why talent is only a small part of the equation. We get into the mindset and attitude side of the game most people ignore, how to stay hungry without burning out, and why you need a mission statement that can pull you forward when you're not feeling it. Also, yes… we talk barbecue. A lot. Listen now, then ask yourself: what are you going to DO with what you heard? PODBEAN — SHOW NOTES (bullets + links) In this episode with Rider, we cover: • Why “overnight success” is usually a 15-year build • Talent is only part of the equation, what actually moves the needle • Starting “the wrong way” (guest bathroom studios, janky gear) and still building a career • Why rushing the process breaks people, and how patience becomes a strategy • “You're auditioning for your own job”, staying hungry, staying humble • The mindset piece most voice actors skip, confidence, courage, gratitude, and resilience • The mission statement framework, goals vs mission, present tense, and why clarity matters • What to do on days you're not feeling it, and how to reset your state • The VO Life Coach app, what it is, who it's for, and how it works • Rider's other show, Tri-Vio Pursuits (with Matt Baker + Mandy Fisher) CONNECT WITH RIDER
The nation emerged from Egypt triumphantly. Pharaoh was talking a big game. "Who is God that I should listen to him? I'm not going to release the Israelites!" But he was humbled before God one plague at a time. With the death of the firstborn at the stroke of midnight, Pharaoh buckled. He begged, he coaxed, he urged, he pleaded with the Israelites to leave. The coast is now clear. The enemies are behind us. Certainly, the entire nation expected smooth sailing. But Egypt reared its ugly head once again. The entire Parsha is a series of challenges that arose in the aftermath of the Exodus. Twice the nation was stranded without water, their food supply ran out as well, and they were attacked and ambushed by the nation of Amaleik. In this very special Parsha Podcast, we go backstage and learn several profound lessons about the nature and mechanism of transformative change, the process by which bitter is rendered sweet, and the unique and counterintuitive way that we can have cosmic influence.– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – –This Parsha Podcast is dedicated in loving memory and leilui nishmas Baruch Yochanan Ben Reb Ephraim Fischel, Dr. Bertram John Newman, dedicated by the Newman, Shapiro, Grossman, and Yudelson families. Hi, The Passage listeners! We're excited to share with you a sneak peek at iHeartPodcasts' latest release, The Red Weather! The Red Weather: Hi, I’m Rider. The world knows me as an actor. Some of those places were cult-ish and creepy, some not. THE RED WEATHER is a fictional true crime podcast in which I go home, interview my parents, friends, local police, and journalists in an attempt to solve the disappearance of my best friend’s sister, ANNA TRAINOR, who vanished from her commune on Halloween night, 1995. *maniacal laugh* It’s time again for Will and Rider to venture into the castle and recap another episode of The Traitors Season 4. Between her liberal use of the f-bomb and a penchant for indoor sunglasses, our hosts aren’t impressed with Lisa Rinna, but would they have sniffed out her mission if the clues weren’t so obvious? Rider gets flashbacks to Cabin Fever thanks to a challenge, but the real fear lies in Alan Cumming having to explains these confusing rules. Plus…are we headed toward a salmon-specific storyline?? Gravel riding makes many motorcycle riders uneasy — not because the bike is out of control, but because it doesn't behave the way pavement has trained us to expect. The front wanders, the bars move, braking distances grow, and the instinct is to hold on tight and slow down — usually making things worse. On this episode of Rider Skills, we break gravel riding down into four clear lessons: how to let the bike move without panicking; how throttle, braking, and electronics change traction on loose surfaces; how to read gravel roads and choose lines intentionally; and why braking and cornering with limited traction is not only possible, but fun.
Climbing doesn't usually fall apart because of talent or genetics. More often, it's a few small, fixable mistakes quietly stealing speed every time the road tilts up.In this video, we break down five of the most common reasons riders struggle on climbs—even when they train consistently and feel “fit.” From how you pace efforts, to how you fuel, pedal, and apply your power, these factors add up fast on any meaningful gradient. If you've ever felt strong on the flats but watched wheels drift away uphill, this one's for you. Stick around to the end—the last reason is the most misunderstood, and fixing it can change your climbing faster than you think.Go to https://www.skool.com/roadman/about to sign up to our FREE community! In 2003, Bryan Jones and his wife, Max, joined a guided motorcycle tour through Cambodia, expecting a challenging but well-run adventure motorcycle trip through jungles, villages, and remote roads. What they got instead was something very different — aging bikes, a guide who kept disappearing, and a journey that quickly became unpredictable.
In this live Q and A, we talk about rider straightness and symmetry and why it is such an ongoing conversation for every horse and rider. This session blends rider position, training priorities, and a deeper look at how groundwork supports both safety and progress.Straightness Begins With SupplenessWe discuss why straightness cannot be forced. Bend and suppleness have to come first, whether you are working from the ground or under saddle. Without that foundation, riding straight often creates tension instead of balance.Groundwork as a Foundation and Safety NetGroundwork plays a bigger role than many riders realize. It can help prevent accidents, give you options when something feels off, and allow you to address connection, bend, and mental focus before getting on. Groundwork also helps you safely manage your horses energy.Sitting to the InsideA key part of this Q and A focuses on rider symmetry, especially sitting to the inside seat bone. We talk about why this matters on circles, in lateral work, and in the canter.Progress Over PerfectionStraightness is something every horse and rider continues to refine over time. Awareness, patience, and consistent basics make the biggest difference.Thank you so much for being here and for all the thoughtful questions.Happy Riding,AmeliaPS If you have not already, make sure to RSVP for tomorrow's groundwork webinar. We will be diving deeper into how groundwork supports safety, connection, and better rides overall.

In 1886, Canada's first Prime Minister, Sir John A. Macdonald, finally set out to see the country he had helped stitch together by rail. The Canadian Pacific Railway had just been completed, and a grand cross-country tour was planned, complete with speeches, pomp, and a private rail car. What no one planned for was his wife.Lady Agnes Macdonald was bored. So bored, in fact, that she abandoned the Prime Minister's private car, climbed into the locomotive cab, blasted the whistle at crossings, ignored orders from her husband, and eventually talked her way into riding on the cowcatcher at the very front of the train, from the Rocky Mountains all the way to the Pacific Ocean.Yes. The outside of the train.Sitting on a candle box.At speed.Through mountain descents, landslides, near derailments, forest fires, and even a full-on pig collision in the Fraser Valley.Joined reluctantly by a deeply stressed government superintendent whose job description rapidly shifted to “human seatbelt.”Along the way, Lady Agnes waved to crowds, dared her husband to join her (he did, briefly), and redefined Victorian ideas of decorum, safety, and common sense—while Sir John A. retreated back to the bar car.Based on “Fur and Gold” by John Pearson (Black Press Media) Hosted on Acast. In December 2019, Lisa and Simon Thomas left their motorcycles and gear in the United States, planning to return after a short trip home to the UK. More than six years later, those bikes are still there — and their lives have gone in a very different direction. This episode lives in the space between what was planned and what actually happened. We talk about building a life around long-term travel, what happens when health intervenes, and the emotional cost of stopping after years on the move. Lisa and Simon share what it's like to lose — and rebuild — identity, confidence, and purpose when the thing that defines you suddenly disappears. And through it all, we explore why motorcycles still matter.
