Earn More Without Working More – The Simple Sales System with Annemie Tonken

A good system in your photography business is one that allows you to maximize your profits while making the best use of your time and talents. Enter: the Simple Sales System, a revolutionary way to run a profitable, sustainable business that you love.Introduction (2:25)What is the #1 mistake people make when creating systems? (3:46)People over-complicate what a system is. A system is simply a repeatable, efficient workflow. The better you get at systems, the less thinking you have to do, you make fewer mistakes and you give a more consistent experience to your client. How do you find time for organization? (6:19)There is a misconception that you have to do everything yourself. Someone else may be able to do a task faster, more efficiently, and with less mistakes, which can make it cheaper than doing it yourself. Lean into the things you are good at, and outsource and automate the rest. How did you overcome the mindset of “to earn more you have to work more”? (9:33)After my divorce, I had to provide for my family,  and I had to make more money without spending more time. So I mapped out the IPS process and figured out which aspects made it work so well, and then figured out how to do those things in an automated or remote way. That is how the Simple Sales System was born. With your Simple Sales System, do people just order prints and albums online? (17:34)Pic-time approached me when they saw I was making more money using their gallery software than their other family photographers. I shared my system with them and they then created a marketing automation based on it. So now the system to order products is really user-friendly and presented in a beautiful way.How do you keep yourself from burning out as a photographer? (22:55)The little things that need to get done take up so much of your time, but those are not the things that make your business great, like connection with clients, or the photos you make. Always be on the lookout for the next thing you can get off your plate. How do you stay on track with systems you create? (25:39)First and foremost, get a CRM. How do you move past not knowing your numbers and creating a business you can be proud of? (28:35)Give yourself grace – there are many businesses out there at this stage. But knowing your numbers will enable you to make decisions that make your business successful. Other than the Simple Sales System, you also teach “Revenue on Repeat”. Tell us more. (32:09)I found myself in a situation where I couldn't work for a few months, and I needed to stabilize my income. I realized that a membership model where people pay a monthly fee towards their session was beneficial for both me and my client. Do you have any success stories to share? (38:18)Speed Round! (40.52)What are you creatively curious about (44:36)How other people run their businessesDiscover more about Annemie TonkenWebsite:  http://thiscantbethathard.comFacebook: Facebook Group:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/thiscantbethathard Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thiscantbethat Bio: Annemie Tonken is a North Carolina-based family photographer, co-founder of The Family Narrative conference, and host of the top-rated photography business podcast, This Can't Be That Hard. Hosts Kristopher H. Bilbrey & Amber Greene discuss the VERY DIRE situation facing the citizens of Delaware, Co, Indiana due to "Serious Staffing Issues" in the Delaware County Sheriff's Department (Deputies & Correctional Officers)... as well as, Dispatchers in the 911 Call Center. The Sheriff's Dept. & the 911 Call Center are some of the LOWEST PAID employees in Indiana which means they can not compete with many other agencies looking to hire! Out of 18 agencies of comparable (or smaller) size that were surveyed, 15 had starting salaries for deputies/officers higher than Delaware County. THIS CAN & SHOULD BE FIXED! The Delaware County Commissioners should publicly support the Delaware County Council in voting on a plan proposed by the Delaware County Sheriff to give raises to his employees! AND YOU CAN HELP!!! You can email the Commissioners & the Council... to tell the Commissioners to support the Council in voting on the plan and telling the Council to vote on the plan! Episode 21:19 - The Original Multivitamin If you are one of those individuals who would prefer a “natural” solution for a health problem over a prescriptive drug…  Then this episode of the Get Healthy Alabama podcast is for you.  And, if you would not only prefer a “natural” solution but would also like to identify and correct the CAUSE of a health problem… Then this episode is definitely for you! Why? Because on this episode we (Dr. George Burroughs and BetyLou Pierce)  discuss a “multivitamin supplement” that has been proven to… - Reduce cancer risk - Normalize blood pressure - Enhance mood - Prevent Alzheimer’s - Lower elevated blood sugar - Improve metabolism - Boost Immune function Read that again and be sure to appreciate the impact this “multivitamin” has on your health… and how it protects you against the top killers of our day. It’s truly amazing! Now, let me share something with you. What I’m talking about is actually not a “multivitamin supplement” in the traditional sense. Instead, it’s SUNLIGHT! You see, just as a “nutritional” supplement provides your body with health benefits via protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients… the SUN provide health benefits through its ultraviolet rays, infrared rays, and visible light rays. Yes, the sun provides health benefits in much the same way that food does… and perhaps even more so! Unfortunately, over 90% of Americans appear to be “malnourished” when it comes to the rays of the sun… helping to contribute to the rise of obesity, diabetes, cancer, heart disease, and neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s. This has to be corrected. This CAN be corrected!  And a good place to start is with this episode. You'll learn about the health benefits of the sun, including its connection with the “melanocortin system” which has been shown to help people LOSE WEIGHT and DECREASE APPETITE. After listening, please be sure to share this episode with a friend :) ———————- Want more? Go deeper into this episode, and all future episodes, by signing up for our daily emails. In 2017, I co-founded The Family Narrative, which was - in a way - a second business, then in 2019, I launched This Can’t Be That Hard, which is now the business on which I spend the most time. As a three-business-running parent, you can bet I stress about the impact my work life has on my home life and my ability to show up meaningfully for my kids… and I know I’m not the only one that stresses about that issue. So today I’m going straight to the source and chatting with my almost-15-year-old son Oliver about his experience from the other perspective. Show notes: thiscantbethathard.com/podcast/084

According to the New York Times, the plaintiffs "called for the deals to be unwound, escalating regulators' battle against the biggest tech companies in a way that could remake the social media industry." Federal and state regulators "said in separate lawsuits that Facebook's purchases, especially Instagram for $1 billion in 2012 and WhatsApp for $19 billion two years later, eliminated competition that could have one day challenged the company's dominance." This comes as YouTube has moved to ban videos that claim fraud influenced the 2020 US presidential election.Dave Lindorff, investigative reporter and founder of This Can't Be Happening!, joins us to discuss the federal investigation into US President-elect Joe Biden's son Hunter, who said Wednesday that he had been contacted about an investigation into his taxes by the US Attorney's Office in Delaware. A Wednesday article in Politico says that a person with "firsthand knowledge of the investigation" claims that the probe has been "more extensive" than Hunter's statement indicates. "The person said that, as of early last year, investigators in Delaware and Washington were also probing potential money laundering and Hunter Biden's foreign ties," the outlet noted. A recent report by the Associated Press also found a number of sexual misconduct allegations against senior FBI officials in the last five years, with those individuals being allowed to transfer or resign with full benefits and no criminal charges against them.Alfred de Zayas, professor of international law at the Geneva School of Diplomacy, former secretary of the UN Human Rights Committee and Former UN independent expert on international order, joins us to discuss the International Criminal Court's (ICC) decision to drop a probe into actions by British forces in Iraq, despite evidence of war crimes. According to a Wednesday article in Common Dreams, the decision was blasted by the European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) General Secretary Wolfgang Kaleck, who said it "reinforces longstanding double standards in international justice and shows once again that powerful actors can get away with systematic torture." Kaleck also noted that the decision "is a severe blow to Iraqi torture survivors." Nick Davies, peace activist and author of "Blood on Our Hands, the American Invasion of Iraq," joins Dr. Wilmer Leon to discuss a MintPress News story entitled "John Kerry's Think Tank Calls for War With Russia Over Climate Change." Kerry, who was recently appointed as the Biden team's special presidential envoy for climate and who is a founding member of the American Security Project think tank, was quoted as saying, "America will soon have a government that treats the climate crisis as the urgent national security threat it is." The organization was quoted in the article as saying, "NATO faces a severe military challenge in the European Arctic area of operation. ... The US military should actively participate in Arctic joint exercises, and publicize US military deployments to the region, with particular focus on the Russian border – perhaps by returning the US Marine deployment to Norway."Marjorie Cohn, professor of law at the Thomas Jefferson School of Law in San Diego, California and a former president of the National Lawyers Guild, joins us to discuss a Consortium News article which said, "The United Nations' top official on torture Tuesday called on British authorities to release or place under house arrest WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange" during his US extradition trail proceedings. Nils Meizer, UN special rapporteur on torture, cited a report saying that "some 65 of the 165 inmates at Belmarsh, including numerous prisoners in the wing where Assange is jailed, have tested positive for coronavirus." He called Assange's imprisonment "arbitrary deprivation of liberty" that has "severely violated" the journalist's human rights.Laith Marouf, broadcaster and journalist based in Beirut, Lebanon, joins us to discuss Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's remarks that Iran will return to its commitments under the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action nuclear deal if other countries do the same. According to Al Jazeera, "Following the assassination of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh outside Tehran last month, the Iranian parliament, dominated by conservatives and hardliners, quickly passed a bill that aims to increase uranium enrichment and expel inspectors of the International Atomic Energy Agency. The Rouhani administration has explicitly said it opposes the legislation and was not consulted in its drafting."

Maduro is backed by Russia, China, Cuba, and Turkey. Garland Nixon, co-host of The Critical Hour, joins us from Venezuela to discuss the United States and other countries' attempts to destabilize the Venezuelan government through sanctions and direct efforts at regime change, as well as what the latest election results mean moving forward.Dr. Linwood Tauheed, associate professor of economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, joins us to discuss a possible US economic stimulus package. Day one of Assange's resumed extradition hearing in London came to a close on Monday. "The dramatic opening day of Assange's extradition hearing saw the US shift from a charge of espionage to its superseding indictment as judge Vanessa Baraitser rejected a defense bid to expunge the evidence and adjourn the case to January," Consortium News reported Tuesday. What's next?A Tuesday Washington Post headline read "US coronavirus cases nearly quadrupled during summer season." The article noted, "Summer has run its course, and with it, the toll of the coronavirus pandemic in the United States has only grown worse. From Memorial Day weekend through the unofficial end of the season Monday, the number of Americans who died of COVID-19 shot up from just under 100,000 to more than 186,000, according to data tracked by The Washington Post, as infections nearly quadrupled to upward of 6.2 million." What are we to make of this? "The Washington Post and the New York Times reported Sunday that [US Postmaster General Louis] DeJoy pressured his employees at New Breed Logistics to write checks for Republican congressional and presidential candidates and reimbursed them for doing so through bonuses," Common Dreams reported Tuesday. "DeJoy served as CEO of the company from 1983 to 2014. ... DeJoy, the former head of fundraising for the Republican National Convention in Charlotte, faces 'criminal exposure' both if the claims surrounding the alleged straw-donor scheme are true and 'also for lying to our committee under oath,' said [US Rep. Carolyn] Maloney [D-NY]." What comes next?"Prominent opposition leader Maria Kolesnikova was detained by Belarusian authorities on Tuesday, a border official said, after thwarting what a Ukrainian government minister described as an attempt to expel her from Belarus," Reuters reported Tuesday. What are we to make of this?"The United States has threatened to target China's top chip maker in a move that may slow the country's efforts to develop critical technology at home," the South China Morning Post reported on Saturday. The Trump administration is considering whether to add Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation (SMIC) to a trade blacklist, which would force US suppliers to seek a difficult-to-obtain licence before shipping to the company, a Pentagon spokeswoman told Reuters on Friday." Is the US cutting off its nose to spite its face?"The Senate is returning to Washington, DC, with an end-of-the-month government funding deadline looming and talks over a fifth coronavirus package stalemated," The Hill reported Tuesday. How critical are these next few weeks? Our next guest, Ben Norton, wrote a Sunday piece for The Grayzone, the subhead of which said, "A Washington, DC-based PR firm linked to the US government and Democratic Party, CLS Strategies, ran a fake news network on Facebook and Instagram, spreading propaganda for Bolivia's coup regime and the right-wing opposition in Venezuela and Mexico." What are the findings?"Samsung Electronics has clinched a $6.6 billion deal with Verizon to help it build 5G networks in the US, highlighting how the technology group can benefit from the Trump administration's targeting of China's Huawei, the Financial Times reported Monday. How will that affect the US?Guests:Ray McGovern - Former CIA analyst and co-founder Veteran Intelligence Professionals for PeaceRanjeet Brar - British physician and National Health Service worker Dave Lindorff - Investigative reporter and founder of the news collective This Can't Be Happening!Scott Ritter - Former UN weapons inspector in Iraq Linwood Tauheed - Associate professor of economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas CityRichard Lachmann - Professor at the State University of New York at Albany and author of "First Class Passengers on a Sinking Ship: Elite Politics and the Decline Great Powers" Ben Norton - Journalist, writer, filmmaker, assistant editor of The Grayzone and producer of the Moderate Rebels podcastChris Garaffa - Web developer and technologist

He also spoke about the loss of Steve Bannon and what it means for Trump’s message, what policing might look like under a Biden-Harris administration, and the political impediments to a thorough pandemic response in America. Dr. Yolandra Hancock, board-certified pediatrician and obesity medicine specialist, broke down the background to the stark inequality of diabetes outcomes and amputations in the US between Black and White patients, new efforts to address them, and Donald Trump’s claim to have advanced health care in the United States. The big picture is important, though, and the way I look at it is by breaking it into four main quadrants. Today, I’m talking about what those four quadrants are, how they fit together, and what I’m focusing on here at This Can’t Be That Hard.

A Synopsis of the US-Taiwan Relationship as Weapon Sales Fuel Tension With China

It's Friday: that means it's panel time!"The US State Department has approved a possible sale to Taiwan of 18 MK-48 Mod6 advanced technology heavy weight torpedoes and related equipment for an estimated cost of $180 million, the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency said in a statement on Wednesday," Reuters reported Wednesday. What will happen next as tensions rise with China?Venezuela and Iran, two countries that the US has decided to make adversaries, and which have been "stung by sanctions and hobbled by the coronavirus, are forging a closer strategic partnership, providing embattled President Nicolás Maduro a vital lifeline and offering Tehran the prospect of a new center of influence just across the Caribbean Sea from Florida," the Washington Post reported Friday. "The most public display of the deepening relationship: five oil tankers now steaming across the Atlantic Ocean to Venezuela, carrying what analysts estimate to be 60 million gallons of Iranian gasoline ... The first of the ships is set to arrive in Venezuelan waters as soon as this weekend, to relieve fuel shortages so dire that the sick can't get to hospitals and produce is rotting on farms." How will the US react to this as the ships get closer to Venezuela?US President Donald Trump continues to attack China for what he describes as "worldwide killing" from COVID-19. This message is likely to be relevant in the 2020 US presidential campaign. "The White House salvos have sought to keep a focus on China's early response to the virus and what Trump has called a 'China-centric' deference at the World Health Organization. China, in turn, has portrayed itself as a good global citizen willing to work with the United Nations and other countries to defeat the pandemic," the Washington Post reported Thursday. In David Lindorff's recent piece for RT, titled "COVID-19 is massacring US elderly in nursing homes, neglected for years by a power-hungry industry," he states, "The elderly in US care institutions are dying disproportionately from COVID-19. The pandemic has revealed the extent to which their wellbeing and safety have been sacrificed by an industry that prioritizes profit and influence.” How is this happening?"America's billionaires have seen their wealth increase by 12.5 percent during the COVID-19 lockdown period. The Institute for Policy Studies (IPS), a Washington, DC-based think tank, released a study Thursday showing that, in the eight weeks between March 18 and May 14, the country's super wealthy have added a further $368.8 billion to their already enormous fortunes," Alan MacLeod wrote in a May 15 MintPress News article. All this comes at the same time that the economy has undeniably imploded for working people. MacLeod's article continues: "A record 36 million Americans have filed for unemployment insurance, with millions more losing their employer-based health care plans, and around a third of the country not paying its rent. Schools, factories, offices, and other businesses remain shuttered. The Trump administration has promised to provide $1,200 to every citizen, but it will be months before everyone receives their check. As a result, there has been an explosion in the use of food banks, as desperate citizens line up for hours in the hopes of receiving a box of food.""The US has rejected wording in a World Health Organization resolution that backs the right of poor countries to ignore patents in order to gain access to a COVID-19 vaccine or treatment," the Financial Times reported this week. "Washington dissociated itself Tuesday from elements of a motion passed by WHO members, saying that it sent 'the wrong message to innovators who will be essential to the solutions the whole world needs.' Many governments, particularly in Africa, fear they will be squeezed out by richer countries unless they can force companies that discover anti-COVID-19 therapies to share their intellectual property with manufacturers able to produce them cheaply at scale." What's going on here? We've got these stories and more!GUESTS: Caleb Maupin — Journalist and political analyst who focuses his coverage on US foreign policy.Dave Lindorff — Investigative reporter and founder of the news collective This Can't Be Happening!Dr. Linwood Tauheed — Associate professor of economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. "The rapid spread of coronavirus in the southern hemisphere suggests it is likely to flare up again in the US this autumn and winter, raising the possibility of a second round of lockdowns this year," the Financial Times reported Wednesday. "Robert Redfield, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), warned the US would have to increase its disease-tracking capabilities rapidly in the next few months to avoid another public health crisis as seasonal flu coincides with a second wave of COVID-19." How does this warning portend for the future?"Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell vowed in a private call with House Republicans Wednesday that the $600 per month enhanced unemployment benefits that are keeping millions of people afloat amid Great Depression-level joblessness will not be extended in the next coronavirus stimulus legislation," Common Dreams reported Thursday. Is this leverage? Is he playing a game of chicken with Americans' bank accounts?"As US-China rhetoric grows harsher, new risks emerge with Taiwan drawn into the mix," read a Thursday headline from the Washington Post. The article says, "Rising tensions between the United States and China brought fresh mudslinging Wednesday as a sharp dispute over responsibility for the coronavirus pandemic spills into new forums such as Taiwan." The US Senate passed a resolution with a bipartisan vote Thursday limiting US President Donald Trump's ability to order future strikes against Iran without first seeking Congress' explicit approval. This is being described as a pointed rebuke of the Trump administration's resistance to involving the legislature in foreign policy decisions. Many believe that the administration's inconsistent messages and irresponsible actions could lead to an all-out war. "Eight Republicans joined all Democrats in voting 55 to 45 for the measure from Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), which invokes the War Powers Act to block Trump from engaging in hostilities without consulting Congress except in cases where self-defense is required against a clear, imminent attack," the Washington Post reported Thursday. What does this mean going forward?Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Troy Price resigned Wednesday after the state's Democratic presidential caucuses became embroiled in confusion last week. In his resignation letter, he said the following, "The fact is that Democrats deserved better than what happened on caucus night. Now that we know, based upon the reporting of Max Blumenthal at The Grayzone, about Shadow Inc., ACRONYM and hedge-fund billionaires like Seth Klarman, is Troy Price the scapegoat?A Thursday New York Times piece states, "In January, Radio Sputnik, a propaganda arm of the Russian government, started broadcasting on three Kansas City-area radio stations during prime drive times … In the United States, talk radio on Sputnik covers the political spectrum from right to left, but the constant backbeat is that America is damaged goods." It's Friday, so that means it's panel time. "Taiwan votes in presidential and parliamentary elections on Saturday, which will set the course for the democratic island's ties with its giant and autocratic neighbor China, which claims Taiwan as its territory," Reuters reported Friday. Why does this matter, and how does it affect the US?"A sharply divided House voted on Thursday to force President Trump to come to Congress for authorization before taking further military action against Iran," the New York Times reported. It has been called a sharp response by some and a sharp rebuke by others to Trump acting without consulting Congress to increase tension with Tehran. The resolution passed 224 to 194, almost entirely along party lines. I don't know how sharp of a rebuke or response it was, since two weeks ago, 188 Democrats in the House passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), and in doing so removed the bipartisan amendment that would have accomplished the same thing. So, they pass the NDAA without the amendment, Trump engages in an act of war against Iran, and now they want to strongly rebuke him?A Ukrainian jetliner crashed Wednesday after taking off from an airport in Tehran, killing all 176 people on board. "The jetliner, a Boeing 737 operated by Ukrainian International Airlines, went down on the outskirts of Tehran during takeoff just hours after Iran launched a barrage of missiles at US forces. While the timing of the disaster led some aviation experts to wonder whether it was brought down by a missile, Iranian officials disputed any such suggestion and blamed mechanical trouble," AP reported Wednesday. Let me preface this discussion by saying that there is a lot of speculation around this crash. We don't want to draw any conclusions just yet, and we really need to wait for the results of the investigation. But I think a discussion of this is warranted. One working theory, according to a Thursday Reuters report citing a US official: "U.S. satellites had detected the launch of two missiles shortly before the plane crashed, followed by evidence of an explosion. Two officials said Washington believed the downing of the plane was accidental."Job growth in the US economy is falling below what economists expected. Now that the votes have been tabulated, the die has been cast. What does this mean going forward?"The United States and China cooled their trade war on Friday, announcing a 'Phase one' agreement that reduces some US tariffs in exchange for increased Chinese purchases of American farm products and other goods," Reuters reported. "Beijing has agreed to buy $32 billion in additional agricultural goods over the next two years, US officials said, from a baseline of $24 billion purchased in 2017, before the trade war started. China would also ramp-up purchases of US manufactured goods, energy and services."So, more than 180 House Democrats joined a nearly united Republican caucus Wednesday night in passing the 2020 National Defense Authorization Act, a $738 billion military budget that includes funding for the Space Force as a sixth armed service and increases the Pentagon's budget by $22 billion. On the House floor Wednesday night, Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) excoriated the bill, saying, "The bipartisan amendment to stop the war in Yemen: stripped by the White House. The bipartisan amendment to stop the war against Iran: stripped by the White House." Only 41 Democrats voted against the bill. What does all of this really mean?"A confidential trove of government documents obtained by The Washington Post reveals that senior US officials failed to tell the truth about the war in Afghanistan throughout the 18-year campaign, making rosy pronouncements they knew to be false and hiding unmistakable evidence the war had become unwinnable," the Post reported Monday. "Russell Vought, a [White House Acting Chief of Staff Mick] Mulvaney protege who leads the White House Office of Management and Budget, intends a concerted defiance of congressional subpoenas in coming days, and two of his subordinates will follow suit — simultaneously proving their loyalty to the president and creating a potentially critical firewall regarding the alleged use of foreign aid to elicit political favors from a US ally," the Washington Post reported Sunday. This happens as House of Representatives impeachment investigators begin to take their work into the public eye: on Monday, the House released transcripts of private testimonies by former US Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and diplomat Michael McKinley, who advised Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. And what's really interesting to me is a federal appeals panel said on Monday that President Donald Trump's accounting firm must turn over eight years of his personal and corporate tax returns to Manhattan prosecutors. The appeals court said the president's accounting firm, not Trump himself, was subpoenaed for the documents, so it did not matter whether presidents have immunity. In Chile, there's a revolt against neoliberalism that corporate American media is refusing to cover. Alan MacLeod writes in MintPress News: “'We are at war with a powerful, relentless enemy that respects nothing nor anyone' thundered Chilean President Sebastian Piñera during a speech to the nation, deliberately echoing the infamous catchphrase of fascist military dictator Augusto Pinochet. The 'enemy' he was referencing were Chilean citizens, more than 1 million of them taking to the streets Friday afternoon in a revolt against the neoliberal system Piñera was implementing against their will, demanding his resignation." In October 2018, when Jair Bolsonaro became president of Brazil after one of the most polarizing elections in the country's history, he called himself a "defender of freedom" and said his government would protect citizens who "follow their duties and respect the laws." How are these neoliberal politicians taking hold and carrying the day? "Hundreds gathered this weekend to mark the 40th anniversary of the Greensboro massacre, when 40 Ku Klux Klansmen and American Nazis opened fire on an anti-Klan demonstration in Greensboro, North Carolina, killing five anti-racist activists in a span of 88 seconds," Democracy Now! reported Monday. "Those killed were members of the Communist Workers' Party. Ten other activists were injured. No one was convicted in the massacre, but a jury did find the Greensboro police liable for cooperating with the Ku Klux Klan in a wrongful death. Local pastors in Greensboro are now calling on the City Council to issue an apology for the events that led to the 1979 killing." Many call this the massacre that spawned the alt-right. Subsidized Self Reliance (EP.144)

Revolution 2.0

Play Episode Listen Later Jul 2, 2019 9:06

Introduction Subsidized self reliance is an oxymoron, a self-cancelling phrase. Like civil war, or jumbo shrimp. In yet another triumph of doublethink (from Orwell’s 1984), over reason and integrity, it is being sold as being humane and compassionate. It is precisely the opposite.  That is the subject of today’s 10-minute blog/podcast. Continuing It has long been true that if allowed one false premise to build upon, then just about anything can be “proved” to be true. For example, when the prevailing belief was that the earth was flat, it was easy to “prove” that a ship going a distance in any direction would fall off the edge of the world. More recently, when 1930s Germany promoted the false belief that Jews, homoexuals, gypsies, etc., were not people, it allowed those who accepted that thinking to treat the people in these groups in horribly inhumane ways. With apologies to Bertrand Russell, here’s a fun example:  Someone once challenged Bertrand Russell to prove that, "If  1=2 (the allowed false premise) then you, Russell are the Pope. Russell replied, "Either the Pope and I are one person or we are two people. If 1=2 then in either case we are one person. Therefore, I am the Pope." Allowing the false premise of subsidized self reliance to stand will lead to claiming that subsidizing people will make them self reliant. In other words, if I just keep giving you new a fish every day, you will eventually learn how to fish. And more importantly, you will be motivated by all the free fish to provide your own fish after a time of being giving them for free. (The people esposing this way of thinking are silent on just how long the free fish have to be given out before, like spontaneous combustion, learning and motivation flare up.) Pause for a definition. The kind of subsidies we are talking about here are the long term and extended giveaways like “Healthcare is a human right” and free college with the forgiveness of current student debt. As in $1.5 T for trillion in student debt. One third of our annual federal budget. That’s more than all of the outstanding credit card debt. Hey, why not pay that off for everyone as well? We are not talking about the temporary subsidies that have correctly existed for many decades, like good public schools (when they were good), merit-based scholarships and efficient public transportation--where that exists. All subsidized, and all good investments, designed to give the individual what they need when they need it. And allow and encourage them to wean themselves from the subsidies. Eventually to contribute to subsidizing others either through appropriate taxation or personal charity.  Let’s take a quick re-look at a drawing that deals with the issue of what is a good, effective and compassionate subsidy and, well, what isn’t. This Can’t v. Won’t drawing is a useful guide.  “Can’t” and “won’t” are completely different. Much of how we see and deal with ourselves, family and society depends upon how we define those two terms, those two states of mind, and how we apply those definitions in our lives. For example, we all want to help people who can’t and don’t want to help those who won’t.  As we go forward together with these podcasts, this can’t or won’t distinction will become more important as we begin to outline a complete political, personal and financial philosophy. A way of looking at, living in and contributing to the world around us. This definition, this distinction, is a good example of the many places in our lives where there is a lot of grey, but we need to make--and act on--firm choices. And just having an honest, non agenda-driven discussion will be hugely beneficial. And advance everyone's thinking in useful directions. Today’s Key Point: Don’t surrender the word compassion to those who want to convince us that the more you give away for free, the more compassionate you are. When you give away too much for too long,

Former Vice President Joe Biden is facing a crisis in his not-yet-launched presidential campaign as Lucy Flores, a Democratic politician from Nevada, says Biden once sniffed her hair and kissed the back of her head. Biden says that he has no memory of the incident, but other senior Democrats are demanding that he explain himself and apologize. Biden said only that he doesn’t believe that he ever acted inappropriately with Flores, but has a long-standing reputation of inappropriate behavior toward women, on top of his widely-criticized handling of the historic Anita Hill hearing when he was head of the Senate judiciary committee. Nicole Roussell, a Sputnik News analyst and a producer of Loud & Clear, joins the show. The US Senate yesterday voted again to end American military assistance to Saudi Arabia for its war in Yemen, rebuking President Trump and expressing discontent for his refusal to press the Saudis over the assassination of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. At the end of January 2019, we canned Flight for the second time! This second run is a smaller size than our first. We improved our design and got approval for distribution throughout Texas! This should be hitting store shelves soon and we can't be more excited! They will be sold in 4-packs or you might see them offered as some restaurants as a single can! With a younger generation coming into the wine world market, we saw a trend and desire for canned wine for convenience. It's not every situation that you can take a bottle, corkscrew, and glasses with you. Now we're fully aware that many traditionalists prefer this method and that is perfectly fine! We will continue to bottle a lot most of our wine. However, this emerging market showed us there is a lot of interest in this product. So we looked at this market and saw that there is a great lack of quality wine in a can. Flight is our solution for people opening the finer moments in life! We got our inspiration for the design from our local residents, the South African Guinea Fowl! We have a symbiotic relationship with these wonderful creatures, where they provide protection for our fruit and we, in turn, provide food and shelter for them! While they patrol our vineyard, they leave beautiful feathers for us to find, which provides a perfect logo for our can of Flight Sparkling Rosé. Let go of yesterday and take flight! Kiepersol's motto is Love, Grow, Do! We believe in Loving our families, friends and guests. We grow as much as we possibly can and do our best to succeed! We were "green" before green was ever considered cool. This includes being debt-free as a company. We don't buy what we actually need, we only purchase what we simply can't live without. This "Can-paign" is one of our first major projects at Kiepersol since the Founder, Pierre de Wet passed away. The other major project is a beautiful venue that overlooks our vineyard. Perfect for wedding, parties, and meetings at Kiepersol! This venue will be available later this year! We recently collaborated with Spoetzl Brewery, Home of Shiner Beers to create a Shiner Beer Rosé Pale Ale! Spoetzl has been around for over 100 years and it's very iconic of Texas! They took 100 Kiepersol Barrels and aged their beer in them, giving that nice rosé taste. We then took Spoetzl Brewery's yeast and fermented our Vit Wine with it! We will be releasing a canned Kiepersol Fizzy Vit in stores throughout Texas in March! If you don't see the beer or the wine in stores, please ask for it. We want everyone to have the chance to buy both! Come celebrate the new season at Kiepersol with us! We have our Waking of the Vines event coming up in March of 2019 and we invite you all to come to visit us as we see bud break! On today's episode of Loud & Clear, Brian Becker and John Kiriakou are joined by Dave Lindorff, an investigative reporter and founder of This Can’t Be Happening!, Ted Rall (rall.com), an award-winning editorial cartoonist and columnist, and Dr. Jack Rasmus (jackrasmus.com), a professor of economics at Saint Mary's College of California.A blockbuster New York Times investigation has found that Donald Trump in the 1990s participated in dubious tax schemes, and committed outright fraud, that greatly increased the fortune that he had inherited from his parents. Trump won the presidency in part by proclaiming his status as a self-made billionaire. That, it turns out, was simply not true. Wednesday’s regular segment, Beyond Nuclear, is about nuclear issues, including weapons, energy, waste, and the future of nuclear technology in the United States. Kevin Kamps, the Radioactive Waste Watchdog at the organization Beyond Nuclear, and Sputnik news analyst and producer Nicole Roussell, join the show. Last night Donald Trump went before adoring crowds on the campaign trail to mock and deride the credibility of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, who had alleged that Brett Kavanaugh assaulted her and attempted to rape her while he was severely inebriated at a gathering in a home in Bethesda, MD. Dr. Ford was 15 years old at the time and Kavanaugh was a seventeen-year-old football player. Meanwhile, it appears that the FBI is wrapping up its very limited investigation without interviewing Dr. Blasey Ford or Judge Kavanaugh. Brian and John speak with Dan Kovalik, a human rights and labor lawyer. He’s the author of the book “The Plot to Attack Iran.” More than 1,600 children in recent weeks have been sent in the middle of the night and with no notice or public announcement to a tent city in west Texas where there is no schooling and almost no access to legal representation. The Trump Administration says it has done this because migrant shelters are overflowing. But apparently nobody bothered to consult attorneys or consider human rights. Jorge Barón, the executive director of the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, joins the show. The Pentagon is expected today to announce that, if asked, it will offer NATO allies its formidable cyber warfare capabilities. A Pentagon spokesperson said that the Defense Department will offer allies both offensive and defensive capabilities, but the U.S. will maintain control over the program. Meanwhile, controversy continues over comments by U.S. NATO envoy Kay Bailey Hutchinson about preemptively “taking out” Russian missiles. Alexander Mercouris, the editor-in-chief of The Duran, joins Brian and John. After a breakthrough agreement between the political bloc led by Muqtada al-Sadr and the pro-Iran Fatah Alliance, Iraq has a new Prime Minister. It’s Adil Abd al-Mahdi, a Shia Muslim former communist who will now try to create a new government. Abd al-Mahdi is a 76-year-old French-trained economist who has spent much of the past 30 years working at European think tanks. Mohammad Marandi, an expert on American studies and postcolonial literature who teaches at the University of Tehran, joins the show.British Prime Minister Theresa May gave a keynote address at the Conservative Party Conference today in which she said that the economic austerity policies of her party are now a thing of the past. On Brexit, her policy was simple: My way or the highway. But most British observers think that May’s policy changes are too little too late. She faces strong challenges now from both the right and the left. Brian and John speak with Sputnik news analyst Walter Smolarek.

Courts in New York and Alexandria, Virginia delivered bombshells for President Trump yesterday, as former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort was convicted of eight felony counts of bank fraud, and Trump attorney Michael Cohen turned himself in to the FBI and pleaded guilty to eight counts of campaign finance fraud, bank fraud, and wire fraud. Manafort will now go on trial on additional fraud counts in Washington, DC, and Cohen will go to prison for between three and five years. Wednesday’s regular segment, Beyond Nuclear with Kevin Kamps, looks at nuclear issues, including weapons, energy, waste, and the future of nuclear technology in the United States. Today they focus on Trump’s plan to cut coal regulations, and the connections between the coal and nuclear industries. Kevin Kamps, the Radioactive Waste Watchdog at the organization Beyond Nuclear, joins the show. Facebook announced yesterday that it had taken down 652 fake accounts and pages with ties to Iranian and Russian propaganda organs. The company said there were four different campaigns, with three originating in Iran. Is Facebook jumping on the war hysteria bandwagon? Brian and John speak with Dave Lindorff, an investigative reporter and founder of This Can’t Be Happening!, as well as a columnist for CounterPunch, and a contributor to Businessweek, The Nation, Extra! and Salon.com. Saudi Arabia is preparing to execute five people, including a woman, for participating in peaceful demonstrations in support of rights for Shia Muslims. The public prosecutor, who reports directly to King Salman, has charged the five with a variety of so-called crimes, including, “participating in protests, incitement to protest, chanting slogans, attempting to inflame public opinion, filming protests, and providing moral support to rioters.” The five could be beheaded as soon as Friday. Ali al-Ahmed, the director of the Institute for Gulf Affairs, joins the show. Russia’s foreign minister said that the Taliban have accepted an invitation to attend talks on the future of Afghanistan to be held in Moscow on September 4. Sergei Lavrov said that the aim of the talks is to encourage the Taliban to abandon hostilities, to engage in a dialogue with the Afghan government, and to protect Russian citizens in Afghanistan. Meanwhile, hopes for a temporary halt in the fighting have broken down following a mass kidnapping and a rocket attack on the presidential palace as President Ashraf Ghani was giving a speech. Brian Terrell, a long time peace activist and a co-coordinator of Voices for Creative Nonviolence, joins Brian and John. National Security Advisor John Bolton said yesterday that the United States would respond “very strongly” if forces loyal to Syrian president Bashar al-Assad use chemical weapons in an offensive to retake Idlib Province. But doesn’t that just open the door for US-allied forces to use chemical weapons and blame the Syrian government? Rick Sterling, an investigative journalist and member of the Syria Solidarity Movement, joins the show.Tensions between the United States and Turkey, along with the country’s economic instability, continue to heat up. National Security Advisor John Bolton told reporters yesterday that Turkey could end its lira-battering crisis with Washington “instantly” by freeing a detained American pastor. Bolton added that promises of cash from the Qatari government will not save Turkey’s economy. Today marks the 65th anniversary of the armistice agreement in the Korean War, but the peninsula technically remains in a state of war to this day. To mark the occasion and push forward towards a permanent peace treaty, North Korea today repatriated the remains of 55 US servicemen killed during the Korean war, the result of a promise North Korean leader Kim Jong Un made to President Trump when they met in Singapore last month. More than 7,000 Americans are still listed as missing in action in North Korea. Brian and John speak with Simone Chun, a fellow at the Korea Policy Institute and a member of the Korean Peace Network. President Trump called today’s news that Gross Domestic Product had grown at a very robust 4.1 percent for the second quarter of 2018 “amazing.” He didn’t comment, however, on the fact that much of the growth was due to consumers making major purchases before the effect of tariffs begins. He also promised that GDP “would go a lot higher than this.” Dave Lindorff, an investigative reporter and founder of This Can’t Be Happening!, as well as a columnist for CounterPunch, joins the show. National Public Radio, a government funded operation, cited the online news site The Daily Beast which reported unequivocally today that “the Russian intelligence agency behind the 2016 election cyber attacks targeted Senator Claire McCaskill as she began her 2018 reelection campaign.” The Daily Beast cites as proof its own “forensic analysis” and specifically blames the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence service. How important is your outcall business? Is it a priority or has it fallen by the wayside? This CAN be a booming business, but there are some guidelines to follow. In fact, I know several therapists who do nothing but mobile massages or straight outcalls, and they do very well with that. I started my business this way after I finished my schooling, but that was primarily because I didn’t have the finances to operate a brick and mortar business or even rent office space. Let’s talk about how to develop your outcall strategies for your business. What you’ll hear in this episode: Remember that outcalls are easier when you’re young and strong, but not sustainable as you get older The pros of an outcall business: no overhead expenses The cons of an outcall business: you have to carry your own table and supplies and take the time to set up and break down Tips for your outcall business: Try to schedule several clients at one location, business, resort, conference, etc. Keep your minimum hourly rate in mind so you don’t lose money Offer table and/or chair massages Make sure you have enough room to work (ask ahead of time about the space available) If your outcall business is on the side, then schedule it around your regular office hours and don’t let it interfere Ask questions upfront about set up and break down time and parking Set rules and expectations ahead of time so that no one is surprised Ask ahead of time about anyone with allergies Travel as light as possible (I take my table, sheepskin, sheets, bolster, towel, oils and lotions, business cards, water, and a way to accept cards for payment Set up an invoice ahead of time Be professional and have a great attitude Ask them about rebooking before you leave Follow up with a thank you card, especially if you’re dealing with a business or event Outcalls can be a great way to add to your practice or build your practice. Try some of these tips and see how they can work for you to game-change YOUR business!

Mindful Mondays-#422 February 26th The Strong Within Daily Affirmation Podcast My Disappointments Guide Me To Better Decisions   We must all suffer one of two things: the pain of discipline or the pain of regret or disappointment. Jim Rohn I remember watching a comedy called Meet The Millers With Jennifer Anniston and Jason Sudeikis. It's a silly premise where the main character creates a fake family to smuggle in a shipment from Mexico because he got involved with the wrong people and needs to correct his mistake. And the funniest part of the movie for me is when the fake daughter is hanging out with a tattooed boy who doesn't seem too bright.   Jason who plays the fake father says to the young man sarcastically “hey those are some cool tatts man” and the young gentleman says “thank you bro” as he looks them over with pride and then the boy points to his arm quite beamingly and says “you see the cobra?”   And then Jason says “what's that one?” as he points to the boy's neck. And the boy opens up his shirt, so you can see the tattoo better and he says, “that's my ‘creedo.' No REGRETS…” but he doesn't realize it's spelled wrong as it's spelled R A G R E T S.” And Jason says back to the young man, “you have no regrets?” and the boy responds “nope.” Then Jason says “not even a single letter?” and the boy responds again “no way, not me.” And Jason finishes off the scene even more sarcastically saying to his fake daughter “I love him, he's a real winner Casey.”   I'll include the clip in my blog post on my site.   Every mistake, every disappointment, and every moment that we wished we could get back…they weren't errors in our lives. They were chances for us to come to a higher awareness. I know it's easier said than done to have no regrets, and I'm not saying we shouldn't ever regret anything, but maybe we should look differently at regrets.   I love acronyms because they help me remember lessons better. I'll give some famous acronym examples to help you get on my excitement for acronym bandwagon. You remember the frozen yogurt stores TCBY? Well, TCBY stands for The Country's Best Yogurt. In fact, it used to stand for This Can't Be Yogurt until they were sued by the company I Can't Believe It's Yogurt. Or another one you might not know is the word TASER, you know for the TASER gun, well that stands for Thomas A. Swift's Electrical Rifle.   We could go on for days about acronyms we didn't know about, but let's get into my acronym to remember how to reframe looking at regrets. The guilt we feel about something we wish we didn't do will keep us from living our best lives in the present moment. So let's reframe REGRET to help you heal from your past pains and begin living more within peace and joy for your life.   REGRET stands for Realizing Every Goodbye Resolves Eventually over Time.   Now I used the word “over” in front of time, so I hope you can forgive me for putting in the connecting word to help the phrase make more sense. What I want to remind you and myself of when we say this acronym, is that all those bad things we've been holding onto…we're saying goodbye to them. All those things that we're upset about, all those pains that are hurting us in the moment and all the guilts we may feel will resolve themselves out over time.   And it's not because we never think about our mistakes ever again, almost certainly to repeat them since we didn't learn. But it's that we've become more aware by saying the REGRET acronym when we are feeling regret. We say the acronym to awaken us to better ways of healing and learning from our mistakes.   The human will is a formidable force and when we keep moving forward knowing that every mistake is a lesson, and that every regret isn't a goodbye to something bad, but a hello to something beautiful over time. Then we are eternally growing.   So think about it like this, you realize that your disappointments have guided you to better decisions…well hopefully. Some people choose never to learn, but we may have to go through disappointment after disappointment to finally engrain in our brain that this way isn't working. And the more in tune we become with our intuition, then the more we will hear those little voices in our head, and those subtle cues in our body, warning us something isn't right.   I was working with a life coaching student of mine, and at the end of our session I asked what we wanted to focus on for the next week, and she said…”I want to pay more attention to those little voices in my head that are telling me what I need to do at the moment.” She was burned out in her life and those voices would tell her what her mind and body needed. It was saying “take a nap, you haven't eaten yet; you need to get something in your stomach,” or it might say “if you only spend a few minutes on organizing you won't be so overwhelmed.”   She said that those small voices were the ones that when she listened to them, they always brought her to a place of balance. It was the good voice within telling her what she needed. And we do that a lot in our lives, we drown out that intuiton, and we listen to the more destructive voice inside. Or we drown out all the voices and just do whatever we feel NEEDS to be done by forcing things because we have so much left to do. So we try to cram it all in, and as fast as we can into one day.   Maybe if we listened a little more to our intuition guiding us…we might have less regrets. But if we can remember that a regret is Realizing Every Goodbye Resolves Eventually over Time, it will be a pathway to opens doors.   They say that for every door that closes in your life another will open. And it's a nice sentiment to say, but when you are in the thick of things it can be easy to let anxiety grip you. And I could wave my magic wand and tell you I have the answer for everyone, but that would be a lie. I think it comes down to a multitude of things, but maybe it's about finding something to place your attention on when going through hell.   Maybe it's the smile of a loved one, or the remembrance of a good conversation with a great friend, or maybe it's the calm knowing that your creator has something more in store for you. Maybe it's a past triumph and you remember how great your body felt after that success.   So let us find a higher truth and know that the mistakes in your life weren't meant to destroy, but to build you up and bring something better to you. I may not be able to look into a crystal ball to tell your fortune, but I think I can tell you your future right now. You have a great one ahead of you. There will bumps and bruises, but each one will be worth it as you get to know the amazing you.   So when going through your personal hells, remember to say the acronym REGRET out loud or in your mind, and focus on a past success or something you love. Because when it feels like that's all you can hold onto…I think it will be enough.   And if you are going to regret anything, regret being regretful…ok that was stupid. Next.   Today's Personal Commitment:  Practice saying the acronym REGRET to yourself and see how it sounds. Maybe you might have a better acronym for going through a tough time in your life. SO see if you can create an acronym that will help you remember a better way.   And if you create a cool one I'd love to hear it and share it with the Strong Within One Percenters crew…that's that I call you guys, my audience, if you didn't know that.   My Disappointments Guide Me To Better Decisions   Meet The Millers “No RAGRETS” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjkLKKgOMRY   Thanks for listening.  I'm sending great energy your way as we become Strong Within together, Personal Development Life Coach- Chris O'Hearn Contact info- email: chris@strongwithin.com  phone:865-219-3247     Music by: - Zest by basematic (c) copyright 2011 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license. - I Have Often Told You Stories (guitar instrumental) by Ivan Chew (c) copyright 2013 Licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution (3.0) license.
