In this week's episode Natalie is joined by registered Menopause Nutritionist & Author Emma Bardwell to talk all about her brand new book The 30g Plan and how our nutritional needs change as we head towards mid life. From slower digestion to decreasing muscle mass Emma unpacks the varying transitions our bodies face as we enter perimenopause and menopause and how our diet can have a significant impact on the intensity of symptoms. Emma details the need for more protein and fibre as we age and notes how her own experience with entering perimenopause and the concerns her patients expressed inspired her to create her brand new book The 30g Plan. Explaining that, in an age of misinformation and click bait she felt women entering midlife needed a resource that was scientifically backed whilst being easy to follow when it came to understanding their nutritional needs. During the conversation Emma also notes how our hormonal changes impact digestion and how it is vital that we pay attention to this often taboo area of our health in order to maintain optimum wellbeing as we begin to experience perimenopause, highlighting that many women can suffer with bloating and other uncomfortable symptoms that lead to lack of confidence and decreased vitality. In a highly informative part of the chat Emma gives her verdict on the use of supplements to boost overall wellness alongside helpful advice on getting the best nutrition on a budget. Why is this 56-year-old nutrition expert taking vitamins that float instead of dissolve? Mareya Ibrahim-Jones's midlife journey reveals why most supplements fail – having not as much to do with the quality, but the way you are taking them. Learn why your collagen needs vitamin C to work, how coffee steals your magnesium, and why liposomal delivery gets nutrients directly into your cells instead of relying on your digestive system. She breaks down the science behind liposomal delivery – those mysterious floating packets that don't dissolve in water – and why this delivery method is getting important vitamins like vitamin C directly into your cells instead of just your bloodstream. Discover why that orange from Florida has lost up to 60% of its vitamin C before it reaches you, the connection between vitamin C and anxiety that most doctors miss, and how proper vitamin C absorption can be the missing link in your midlife wellness journey. My newsletter: https://simonowens.substack.com/ Food content is now a major staple on YouTube, but when baker Gemma Stafford launched her channel in 2014 there were hardly any professional chefs on the platform. This early mover advantage allowed her and her husband Kevin Kurtz to build up a massive audience that used Gemma's tutorials in their own baking efforts. Then a few years ago they teamed up with media veteran Ronald Pruett, Jr. to launch the Bold Baking Network, a streaming platform that syndicates content from hundreds of baking creators all across the world. In a recent interview, Kevin and Ron walked through the company's origin story, how they monetized Gemma's videos, and why they decided to expand beyond YouTube and build their own platform.

Hundreds of climate activists gathered outside the State Assembly on Thursday, June 5, to urge lawmakers to pass the NY Heat Act. The bill would align the policies of state agencies with the climate measures included in the CLCPA, the state's climate law, including ending the massive subsidy involved in providing free gas hookups if within 100 feet of an existing gas line. It would also cap the utility bills of low-income New Yorkers at 6% of their income. In recent days lawmakers have floated the idea of amending the bill to allow utilities to opt out in order to deal with the opposition of National Fuels in Western NY which only provides gas. We hear from Laura Shindell of Food and Water Watch; Roger Downes of the state Sierra Club; Senator Liz Kruger, one of the main co-sponsors; Assemblymember Sarahana Shrestha; Assemblymember Anna Kelles on cap and invest; and Assemblymember JoAnne Simon, the other co-lead sponsor of NY Heat. EP. 215: I sat down with Brad Hart, owner of Forest Park Pharmacy in Fort Worth, to expose the shocking truth behind pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and how they're driving up drug prices. What I learned about vertical integration in the healthcare system, where insurers own the PBMs and the pharmacies, honestly left me furious. Brad breaks it all down, from Medicare waste to the skyrocketing cost of specialty drugs, and we talk about real solutions like compounding pharmacies and direct-to-consumer options. This is a must-listen if you've ever wondered why your medications cost so much—and who's really profiting. Topics Discussed: What are pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs) and how do they increase drug prices? How are health insurance companies profiting from vertical integration in the pharmacy system? Why are independent and rural pharmacies struggling to stay open? What impact do PBMs have on Medicare spending and prescription drug costs? How can consumers save money on medications without relying on insurance? The WHO, UN, and WEF are concerned about the continuity of world affairs and what could be done to bring about a New World Order, following economic breakdowns and social collapse. Food and agroterrorism, where pathogens are introduced to the food supply, appears to be the way they will bring nations to their knees. There have always been concerns about additives and other unnecessary chemicals being introduced into foods that create unwanted side effects, and the question is whether or not it is intentional to weed out a certain segment of the population. The company's commercial customer list reads like a “Who's Who” of major restaurant chains, and gourmet chefs regard their Vitamix machines in the same light and improtance as they regards their knives. The company has an incredible history of innovation and invention and developed the first true commercial blender in the early 1990s, which ignited the smoothie movement, and has been named the Best-in-Class Overall beverage blender for decades by readers of Foodservice Equipment & Supplies magazine. As you'll hear in our conversation, Jodi developed a highly intentional approach to leadership — centered on purpose and employee engagement — which she formalized, researched and earned a PhD in management from Case Western Reserve University's Weatherhead School of Management and ultimatley leveraged to transform the organizational structure of Vitamix and its corporate vision, mission and culture. This was such a fun and unforgettable conversation — we actually got into such depth and breadth here that I'm breaking the episode into two parts that will cover Vitamix and Leadership across growing up in the family business and the familial lessons passed on, the evolution of Vitamix over the generations and the corresponding ingredients required order to thrive for over a century, balancing family legacy with innovation, lessons learned in hospitality and working at The Ritz Carlton, many personal stories and historical anecdotes about Vitamix that shaped her understanding of purpose and how it drives engagement and fulfillment in both personal and professional contexts, synthesizing her earned leadership wisdom into her upcoming book, why Vitamix is headquartered in Cleveland, helping people find their superpowers and a whole lot more… Jodi is an incredibly thoughtful teacher and operator and this really felt like a master class in all things business, leadership, and purpose. 00:00:00 - Introduction and Background 00:04:56 - Journey to Vitamix: A Family Legacy 00:19:23 - The Ritz-Carlton Experience and Lessons Learned 00:24:57 - Returning to Vitamix: Merging Passions and Purpose 00:25:27 - Family Legacy and Personal Growth 00:30:05 - The Evolution of Vitamix 00:36:43 - Balancing Legacy with Strategic Growth 00:42:53 - Changing Perspectives on Food and Health 00:51:00 - Creating a Community Around Food 00:58:02 - The Impact of Authentic Marketing-----LINKS:https://www.linkedin.com/in/jodilberg/https://www.vitamix.com/us/en_us/Original Vitamix Infomercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rm5IzzGPzQA-----SPONSOR:Roundstone InsuranceRoundstone Insurance is proud to sponsor Lay of The Land. Maybe, but it leads off with some of America and Australia's favorite NBA, AFL, AF1 and Colorado politics conversation. Episode Overview Welcome back to another Q+A episode! Today, we are digging into something we don't hear talked about nearly enough: the fear of feeling hunger. Maybe you find yourself eating just in case, or reaching for snacks before you're truly hungry. Not because you're being dramatic, but because hunger feels unsettling, maybe even scary. This fear isn't random. For many women, it's shaped by years of dieting and being praised for enduring hunger like it's a badge of honor. We've been taught that hunger is a sign we're doing something right, and the more uncomfortable we are, the better. But as you probably know, too much hunger can backfire. It leads to urgency, overeating, and a chaotic relationship with food. In this episode, we unpack where the fear of hunger comes from, why it sticks around, and most importantly, how to work through it. If hunger makes you nervous or feels like an emergency, this one's for you. In today's episode, I'm diving into the real-life gentle nutrition habits I've recently embraced to show you what it truly looks like to honor your body's needs without falling into the trap of diet culture perfectionism. From smoothies to matcha to supplements, I walk through approachable, sustainable changes that align with the reality of life as a busy parent. I also addresses diet culture's fearmongering around calories, carbs, and blood sugar, busting myths with science and compassion.Covered in this episode:Why smoothies can support blood sugar regulation (yes, even when blended!)How intuitive eating respects your body's capacity, not perfectionThe surprising truth about fiber in smoothiesWhy Bonnie added a fish oil supplement—and how she made that decisionExploring matcha as a gentle nutrition swap for coffee with acid refluxHow real-life barriers (like time and energy) can shape sustainable choicesThe role of satisfaction, variety, and attunement in gentle nutritionThis episode is packed with validation and helpful nuance, especially if you're overwhelmed by nutrition advice or feel like your goals keep “failing.”Ready to Heal Your Relationship with Food?My team of registered dietitians is now accepting insurance for one-on-one nutrition counseling! The Plant Free MD with Dr Anthony Chaffee: A Carnivore Podcast
In this episode, Dr. Chaffee is joined by Dr. Sarah, a returning guest who made a huge impact when she first shared her powerful story of overcoming multiple sclerosis with the help of the carnivore diet. This time, they go even deeper — talking about what's changed since her first appearance, how she continues to manage her health, and what she's learned along the way. It's an honest, insightful, and hopeful conversation about living with MS, the role of diet in long-term healing, and what it really takes to rebuild your life when conventional medicine falls short. If you or someone you love is dealing with a chronic illness — or if you're just looking for real stories of recovery, resilience, and practical advice — this episode is well worth your time.

Story at-a-glance The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) allows U.S. food companies to use nearly 1,000 chemicals banned in Europe, many of which are linked to DNA damage, hormone disruption, or cancer Thanks to a legal loophole called “Generally Recognized as Safe” or GRAS, manufacturers are allowed to self-declare additives as safe without FDA approval, review, or even disclosure on the label Hidden additives are often disguised as “natural flavors” or “spices,” masking substances you'd never knowingly eat but are consuming regularly Ultraprocessed foods make up 73% of the U.S. food supply, designed with chemicals that increase cravings, damage gut health, and disrupt brain signaling Even after hospitalizations and deaths linked to hidden ingredients, the FDA rarely takes meaningful action — leaving your health in the hands of corporations
60% of what you think is "food" is actually a carefully engineered chemical experiment designed for profit, not health. SEASON 3 EPISODE 131: COUNTDOWN WITH KEITH OLBERMANN A-Block (1:45) SPECIAL COMMENT: Trump believes Biden was cloned and executed. Five years ago. He sent this out on his social media account Saturday night:"There is no Joe Biden – executed in 2020. Biden clones doubles and robotic engineered soulless mindless entities are what you see…” If you hear or read that this was Trump RE-posting something that some OTHER lunatic wrote on Trump’s social media site, or that this was Trump TROLLING, or owning the libs - this is incorrect and minimizes the severity of Trump’s accelerating complete mental breakdown. Unlike the original, TRUMP’S version also includes a photo HE has added. No matter what YOUR explanation for this is, or mine, or Fox’s, or his enablers, this country cannot have a president who promulgates theories that his predecessor was a clone, or a body double, or a robot. The dynamic tension keeping someone this damaged and disturbed from deciding now’s the time to nuke the world because don’t worry the people HE likes won’t be affected, is the same as the dynamic tension keeping a badly built bridge upright. It can hold for years or decades and then one day it just collapses and kills everybody. MEANWHILE, MUSK INCONTINENCE STORY LEAKS: Elon Musk was reportedly peeing his pants non-stop during the election? Afterwards? I don’t mean metaphorically. I mean… peeing his pants. New York Times about Musk in May, 2024: “Around that time, Mr. Musk told people that his ketamine use was causing bladder issues, according to people familiar with the conversations... The Food and Drug Administration (warns) chronic use can lead to addiction and problems with bladder pain and control." Where is the Jake Tapper book about THIS? Between THIS and Trump’s revelation that Biden wasn’t cognitively challenged last year and that instead he was dead and cloned and a robot - what does Jake Tapper do now? B-Block (33:14) THE WORST PERSONS IN THE WORLD: Con writer Kurt Schlichter thinks somebody else is "Two clever by half" never realizing...he isn't. Andrew Cuomo's excuse for breaking NYC traffic laws? He thought the reporters waiting to ask him questions about running for mayor were protestors. And Jake Tapper is losing roughly two viewers for every Biden book he sells. C-Block (45:00) THINGS I PROMISED NOT TO TELL/SPORTSBALL CENTER: Baseball's annual commemorations of Lou Gehrig have begun. It's the right time to remind you that when "The Iron Horse" was stricken by ALS, plenty of America's top sports authorities were convinced he was either faking it or not deserving of sympathy.
