Welcome to another edition of the Business Owner Elevation podcast! Today, we are delighted to have another expert on our show. A best-selling author of the Escape The Owner Prison: The Contractors new way to scale, regain control, and fast track growth while loving life, we have Richard Walsh. Richard is a very talented man who is also a speaker, business coach, and host of the ETOP podcast. He also created ETOP Academy where business owners can learn how to profitably scale their business without sacrificing income, family life, and freedom to what they really want.  The interview started as Richard explained what death grip in terms of business. It is doing and controlling everything in your business without proper delegation of work. Our host Leon, also got his fair share of experience when he started to have a coach at the age of 28. He also then asked Richard, what should be the first thing to do to escape the death grip where Richard gladly answered that as a business owner, you have to look at the organization or the people within. Then, ask yourself what really burdens you as a business owner and you have to start learning to get other people to do things better than you do. Start delegating work to lighten your burden as a business owner. Richard also shared his highs and lows in business and some of his realizations. When he started to look back at what were the steps that caused him to fail, he realized that he doesn't have any exit strategy. Want to know more about this? Stay tuned and as we unravel some experiences that made us who we really are today. Join us as we share more tips that will help you in leading your business to success. Enjoy! Here are a few insights you'll hear in today's podcast show What is a Death Grip? The first step on how to escape the death grip The importance of knowing your burden How Richard survived the tough times as a business owner What is an exit strategy?  The importance of preparations in your business   Success Quotes “And you have to start learning to get other people who do things better than you do in those positions. You got to get them on the team.” -Richard “The more I've developed myself, you know, the personal development and growth of my businesses, the more I realized to let go, and like you say, start employing your first person.” -Leon “There's a lot of little things in business that you need to have in place to survive the tough times.” -Richard “Everything comes to an end. Unless you're prepared.” -Richard “You have to build a business as attractive to a buyer. Otherwise, you're just going to close the door, lock it for the last time and throw away the key.” -Richard “The biggest thing is to be willing to accept help.” -Richard “I learned not to have my identity in my business.” -Richard   Resources THE 7 HABITS OF HIGHLY EFFECTIVE PEOPLE -Stephen R. He's a multiple best-selling author, renowned academic, global speaker, and youtube influencer, which really doesn't even scratch the surface of what he does!  Suffice to say he's a man of many talents…he started off in magic and still acts as a creative consultant to the world's best magicians and illusionists, TV shows, and movies…and if he's not advising on them he's presenting them. He is a Professor of Psychology, and his research has been published across the world, alongside being a 12-time author of some of the most popular business psychology books today. Alongside all of this he's spoken globally for the likes of Google, Amazon, and The Royal Society, has two YouTube channels ‘In 59 Seconds' and ‘Quirkology' that have over 2 million subscribers and 500 million views. Described as one of the most “innovative experimental psychologists in the world today”, he's clearly got lots to share on the secret of success, how to make your stuff, (even science stuff), engaging Enjoy!   What are the genuine lessons of magic for performers and speakers Why you must understand things deeply to explain them simply Why speakers must find a skin they're comfortable in How authenticity is a skill to be developed rather than a quality you have. The most vital two minutes of your talk and tips for making this successful. The difference between performing and showing off and why this is important for speakers. How Richard uses humour in his talks, (including practical examples). Why the audience must believe it's the first time you've done your talk… every time. How Richard adapts his talk depending on the audience. How to get the balance right between education and entertainment. We all have hopes and aspirations that get pushed to the back burner because of life’s responsibilities. Can you think of something you’ve always wanted to do, but haven’t yet? Perhaps it’s time to revive your forgotten dreams. Today I’m thrilled to speak with an author who did just that. At age 7, Richard Haiduck was convinced he’d become a fiction writer. He wrote a story nearly every day for a year until, like any other kid, he became preoccupied with his buddies and playing outside.  But the opportunity to go back to his early childhood interests arose 65 years later. As Richard created a strategy to transition from his work life into his next chapter, one striking outcome was finally authoring a book: Shifting Gears: 50 Baby Boomers Share Their Meaningful Journeys in Retirement. It’s a stunning collection of moving stories. Yet beyond his book, Richard has filled his own story with meaning and purpose. He joins us today to share what he’s learned along the journey.  The reason why it took Richard five years to fully leave work behind Why being experimental in retirement becomes remarkably important What surprised Richard the most about other people’s retirement stories The biggest reason why work is the sense of self-worth for men How Richard’s cycling hobby helps bring him a sense of clarity What he’s learned about the bigger picture of life (and where we fit in)

This week I talk with Richard Kettle about his new innovation that gets more wool off a sheep back and why that matters more than ever as wool experiences a renaissance. Richard recently visited a merino farmer that supplies the global merino brand Icebreaker and his reaction to this breakthrough technology was astounding.Richard and I actually go back a few years, because he also runs the Birchleigh Polo Club and let me have a go a few times on one of the more gentle horses in his stable. What I've always admired about Richard is how he's always looking to improve things for the animal. That phrases 'animal welfare' is something that Richard imbues into the products that Animal Health Direct supply to farmers via nationwide retailers. In this episode, we go deep on one single invention that takes a single on farm activity and transforms it into one that gives farmers more wool for their effort. While that hasn't been the priority for some time with depressed wool prices, that's recently changed. I hope you enjoy this chat with entrepreneur, innovator and Animal Health Direct CEO, Richard Kettle. 3 mins 30 secs The problem with existing sheep identification spray markers getting in to the fibre of the wool. 6 mins 54 secs Why sheep need to marked in the first place.10 mins 51 secs Why Richard decided to solve this problem and the lightbulb moment that came from the problem with road accident marking. 13 mins 48 secs What this quality means for the wool industry and how it will be identified. 15 mins 45 secs How Richard intends to get farmers to accept this new breakthrough technology and the barriers to adoption. 20 mins 30 secs What the broader Animal Health Direct business creates animal welfare solutions for sheep and beef farmers in New Zealand. 22 mins 28 secs The competing multinationals and how Animal Health Direct competes in New Zealand. 24 mins 50 secs Settling ponds that produce clean water, no smell to be compliant with what councils and government wants. 27 mins 29 secs Richard's view about being in business and what it means to be out on his own in agriculture. 29 mins 13 secs The Fadeaway 400mL and 200mL product sizing and pricing. 30 mins 15 secs Why merino farmers are switching to Fadeaway for premium wool

What you will learn from this episode: Richard shares the story of Menlo Innovations and its focus on ending human suffering in the workplace by spreading joy What the 5000+ visitors to Menlo Innovations have seen that sets the company’s culture in a league of its own How the global pandemic has impacted Menlo Innovations, and how their powerful culture helped them make the transition to being a 100% virtual office How the team adapted to using remote work tools like Zoom and were able to maintain their unique culture even remotely How the team developed a sequence to navigate the crisis: survive, adapt, sustain, emerge stronger, and thrive again How the outbreak of the pandemic took Richard by surprise and was difficult to adapt to, and why it’s natural to struggle through difficulties Why Richard wrote Chief Joy Officer, the follow up to Joy, Inc., and what important topics he covers in the new book Why the intentionally joyful culture at Menlo is helping the organization maintain optimism through these difficult times, and why joy isn’t the same as happiness Why Richard feels the two strongest aspects of the culture at Menlo are that the team actually believes in it and that they want it to survive How Richard equates leading a business with flying an airplane, with forces of lift vs. weight and thrust vs. drag applying to businesses too Resources: Chief Joy Officer by Richard Sheridan: https://amzn.to/2XSv1KW Email: rsheridan@menloinnovations.com Schedule a tour of Menlo: email experience@menloinnovations.com or visit https://menloinnovations.com/tours-and-workshops/factory-tours Website: https://richardsheridan.com/ Website: https://menloinnovations.com/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/menloprez/ LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/company/menlo-innovations/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/menloinnovations/ Twitter: @menloprez Additional Resources: Sell With Authority book written by Drew McLellan and Stephen Woessner Predictive ROI Free Resource Library Connect with Stephen Woessner on LinkedIn

As we continue to celebrate reaching over 11 Million downloads, I’d like to revisit my interview with Fr. Richard Rohr.  I first encountered the Enneagram when I was a graduate student at a conservative seminary. While on a weekend retreat I came across a copy of Fr. Richard Rohr’s book, Discovering The Enneagram: An Ancient Tool for a New Spiritual Journey. In that book Richard describes the traits and the underlying compulsions of each of the nine basic Enneagram types. Based on my life experience and what I’d learned in my training to become a counselor, Rohr’s description of the types blew my mind.  They were uncannily accurate. I felt sure I had stumbled on an amazing resource, not only for Christians but for all people. Little did I know, that 25 years later, Richard and I would be friends and the Enneagram would become the central focus of my work. In this episode, you will learn: How Richard discovered the Enneagram How to break the shackles of self-doubt with self-compassion What exactly is the true self vs. false self Why the Enneagram can help to identify the true-self How we can use the Enneagram on a daily basis as a framework, or blueprint, for spiritual formation Richard also offers words of encouragement for and caution for each Enneagram type. Richard is a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province and he is the founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He is the author of numerous books, including Everything Belongs, Adam’s Return, The Naked Now, Breathing Under Water, Falling Upward, Immortal Diamond, and Eager to Love: The Alternative Way of Francis of Assisi.

A note from Talking Taiwan host Felicia Lin:   The exceptional way in which Taiwan has handled and contained the Coronavirus has thrust it into the international spotlight once again, but for a different reason. On April 11th, Taiwan’s professional baseball league (CPBL) became the world’s first professional sports league to open in 2020. And then it became the first to have spectators at their games on May 8th.   When I realized that Taiwan had became the only place on the planet where professional baseball was being played, and I knew there was a story there. I learned that Richard Wang had become the English broadcaster for CPBL games, so I reached out to him hoping that he’d agree to an interview for Talking Taiwan. Still a very fit guy and busy running his training camps and holiday business in France, and along with his wife Dorte they are parents to two very talented athletic boys. I really enjoyed this catch-up and we revisited many triathlon topics from the 80’s and 90’s including: How Richard made the transition from windsurfing to triathlon The origins of his nickname “Captain Quads” How to win races without having a formal triathlon coach Snugg wetsuits and a 30-year sponsorship Starting university with no swim, bike, run training experience, and leaving as a full time athlete Training by feel and listening to your body  A triathlon career with no injuries Involvement with the first UK High Performance Triathlon centre at Bath If you want to find out more about what Richard is up to these days or if you would like to book a holiday at his venue in France here are some links Triliving.co.uk LivingFrance.org Facebook  To find out more about Simon’s SWAT programme, please click HERE  To comment on this podcast, please visit Simon's Facebook page HERE  Visit Simon's website for more information about his coaching programmes  For any questions please email Beth@TheTriathlonCoach.com

How can you boost your energy? Author of The Energy Book Richard Maddocks brings his brand of unique energy to the conversation and shares some practical tips on how you can enhance your energy. Visit https://www.bodyshotperformance.com/topic/podcasts/ for the complete show notes of every podcast episode.   Topics Discussed in this Episode: How Richard got into helping professionals boost their energy The four different types of energy Some ways that you can renew your energy The pace of life Reshaping your brain The power of purpose More foreplay Living in the now.   Key Takeaways: There are 4 different types of personal energies: Physical energy is related to the quantity of energy you feel. Mental energy is concerned with how well you can focus your energy. Emotional energy is key in determining the quality of your energy. Purpose energy is the key factor that affects the power of the energy that you use. Most people are constantly slipping in from one activity to another, but the actual basic biorhythm of human life is the action-rest principle. It's been proven time and time again in so many studies that when people take a break from their work roughly every 90 minutes, they have more ability for creative thinking, their level of health and wellbeing increases dramatically, and they have more ability to focus. Your brain takes its shape from what it focuses on. If you focus on negative things, your brain becomes more receptive to negative things. If you focus on positive things, your brain will pick up more easily on positive things. It's not so much that you have to have a purpose in everything, it's more about living life purposefully. You get huge amounts of positive emotional energy by just anticipating an event that you're looking forward to.   Action Steps: Put lots of energy into what you do, and then relax, reflect, recharge, and then go again, Reshape your brain. Journal your positive experiences. Before you go to sleep, write down 3 to 5 positive experiences that happened to you during the day. Do this for 1 to 2 months. Once a week, take a few minutes to go over the things you've written down during the week. Live your life purposefully. Make sure that you're doing things that energise and excite you. Live in the now.   Richard said: "If you just keep running, running, running, and using the energy and not taking the renewal moments and renewal opportunities, then your system starts to break down, your performance goes down, and so forth." "Don't live life as a fast-paced marathon. See it as an endless series of sprints."   Thanks for listening!   If you're interested in finding out what your health IQ is, take the Health IQ test to find out, and get a free 39-page report built around our six signals, which are sleep, mental health, energy, body composition, digestion, and fitness.   If you've enjoyed what you've heard on this episode and it's added value to you, share the episode with someone you think could benefit from it. The Town Crier of Anacortes, Richard Riddell  Episode 01: Show Notes    Originating from the medieval period, town crying is a profession with a great deal of history and culture in its wake. On today’s episode, we have a conversation with a former world champion, the town crier of Anacortes, Richard Riddell. Unaware of it at the time, Richard’s years of acting and musical education and his time as an opera singer in Zurich turned out to be the ideal training ground for this position. He shares about becoming the local town crier, being surprised at enjoying it as much as he does and then he discusses what competitions involve and the different types of cries that can be heard at these events. While there are only a small number of town criers in the world, they are a group of people with thorough respect for what they do, holding fast to their traditions and the nostalgic role they play in their communities. Richard talks about the uniforms they wear, being mistaken for a pirate and the story behind his bell. KBIS Show #2 Today in the Lounge Nick talks with Richard Anuszkeiwicz the Executive Director of the Kitchen and Bath Division for Alt Breeding Schwarz Architects, Chuck Wheelock of Wheelock Design, and Brad Egan of Niagara Conservation live from KBIS Day 2. Richard and Nick discuss how he skyrocketed his career in design in less than 10 years and about his new project with Liebherr this year at KBIS. Chuck and Nick talk about Chuck's business and his relationship with Perlick. Nick and Brad chat about the current water crisis and what Niagra is doing to help. Getting to Know Richard Richard Anuszkeiwicz was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. His favorite vacation was last year when he traveled with a continuing education course to the Honolulu Design Center in Hawaii. He loves Tom Ford. Favorite movie? Nocturnal Animals. Beer, Wine, or Cocktail? Richard loves cocktails, either a gin and tonic or vodka soda. How Richard got his Start Richard was very creative as a child. He went to school for Residential Design at Virginia Tech. Early on in the program, he was introduced to kitchen and bath. He attended KBIS Chicago as a sophomore in college and ever since, he's been a loyal KBIS attendee. This gave him his "aha!" moment to work more with kitchens and baths. Richard encourages students to get themselves to a trade show and just shake some hands. He says that ultimately every opportunity he's gotten has been because he met someone along the way. Richards tells us knowledge is power so don't be afraid to ask questions! The Business Today Richard graduated in 2010 and started with a Design-Build firm in Virginia. Right off the bat, they opened a brand new showroom. His vision was focused on perfecting the kitchen cabinets, the ceiling details, and the windows to go along with it. He was there for three years and then went to Alt Breeding Schwarz Architects where he is currently the lead for their casework and cabinetry division. In 2013, Richard launched his own lifestyle brand after being mentioned in NKBA's 30 under 30 contest. He wanted to bring new products and ideas to the market, empower the next generation, and change the general consumer's mindset on what a kitchen could or should be. He started to develop a CEU entitled, Fashion-Forward Thinking; a way to look at the world you, be inspired and use those ideas to inspire your work. Richard says design is an experience, he doesn't sell products, he sells a lifestyle. Richard considers himself to be a chameleon for his clients, taking their raw ideas and enhancing them in every which way imaginable. Richard learns every day and his job is a passion.        The Monolith Inception At KBIS 2018 Richard helped design the Monolith Inception (pictured above) with Liebherr. In a luxury market, you must be mindful of the finishes and how they function in the space. The table that Nick and Richard are sitting at is actually integrated into the island. Liebherr launched their new column series under the name Monolith. Monolith Inception is a multi-surface island with a table top, primary sink area, a work surface, and a banquette. This island is all carved from one piece of stone, hence the name. This space also includes a few other features such as the integrated armoir, which is a 30-inch refrigerator and 24-inch freezer, and the range wall. The range wall has every material from stone to wood. In the drawers you'll find a pop of red so you'll know it's part of the Richar Living Collection. Other vendors that helped create the Monolithic Inception include Bentley, Superiore, Dekton USA, Grothouse Lumber Wood Tops, and Bridget Beari Designs. I first encountered the Enneagram when I was a graduate student at a conservative seminary. While on a weekend retreat I came across a copy of Fr. Richard Rohr's book, Discovering The Enneagram: An Ancient Tool for a New Spiritual Journey. In that book Richard describes the traits and the underlying compulsions of each of the nine basic Enneagram types. Based on my life experience and what I'd learned in my training to become a counselor, Rohr's description of the types blew my mind.  They were uncannily accurate. I felt sure I had stumbled on an amazing resource, not only for Christians but for all people. Little did I know, that 25 years later, Richard and I would be friends and the Enneagram would become the central focus of my work. In this episode, you will learn: How Richard discovered the Enneagram How to break the shackles of self-doubt with self-compassion What exactly is the true self vs. false self Why the Enneagram can help to identify the true-self Richard is a Franciscan priest of the New Mexico Province and he is the founder of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.   E business is something Richard Baccus has made into an art form. Richard runs ABC Vacuum Warehouse and Gruene Steam with his dad Ralph. ABC Vacuum started in 1977 as a mail order vacuum business. They operate  a brick-and-mortar store as well as 20,000 sq. ft. warehouse and employ 28 staff. Their other company, Gruene Steam has been in operation since 2008. Through it they provide alternatives to harsh chemical cleaning products because after decades in the retail floor business they knew there was a better way. They used German innovations to come up with unique steam products to clean floors. Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll learn: [0:11] Jeremy’s introduction of Richard Baccus, his guest today. [3:13] What Richard learned working with his Dad from an early age. [7:45] How Richard’s company used magazine advertising effectively early on. [13:50] How the company started putting their products online way before Google. [18:14] How the team began opening new franchises and getting the business moving. [22:46] Lessons Richard learned from John of Papa John’s. [25:02] What did John see about the internet that made him go for it? [29:17] Why Richard decided to work with his Dad and move away from Papa John’s. [33:10] How the company landed a deal as the only online distributor of Dyson vacuums. [37:06] One of the big milestones when the company website was first started. [41:30] Software Richard uses to run his business. [44:45] The most successful sales platforms for the company (they sell on 19 platforms). [49:19] The sales channel that surprised Richard the most. [52:32] The largest selling single day ABC vacuums has ever had ($1 million). [54:44] Where Richard sees retail sales going in the future. [1:01:36] How companies can gear up for mobile sales. [1:05:33] Richard’s lowest moment in business. [1:08:55] The toughest part of Richard’s job. [1:10:35] Richard’s best advice: go from the perspective of the user. In this episode… E business success is something Richard Baccus can tell you about because he’s experienced it from the ground up. His work to establish and grow the online presence and sales success of ABC Vacuum Warehouse is the kind of story e-commerce legends are made of. On this episode, I chat with Richard about the details of how he’s made it happen. One of the things Richard Baccus highlights on this episode of Inspired Insider is that all business owners who want to create an e business version of what they do need to get started now. The opportunities to sell online are amazing and only getting better. The sooner you adapt to the new platforms and get started the more you’ll be ahead of your competition. Richard Baccus knows what he’s talking about when it comes to building an e business. When he started working with his Dad the company had no online presence at all - and that was in the day when Yahoo ruled the search engine space. He not only built a website, he learned how to create an online store, market products effectively, and create revenue from the newly created online sales world. Richard Baccus found that eBay was one of their most successful sales partners starting out but he didn’t stop there. The success of the ABC Vacuum Warehouse e business hinges on the fact that they are NOT only on one platform. At the time of this recording, ABC sells parts and vacuums on 19 different online sales platforms. You can hear more about how Richard has done it on this episode. Show Notes   :55 - Melissa’s Facebook auction & art sales experience (she sold 22 pieces of art)   2:45 - Cory introduces Richard Hearns and waxes sentimental about Ireland. Richard has been a full time artist since the age of 24 and has had over a dozen solo shows in Dublin and NYC.    5:10 - How Richard creates and maintains relationships with galleries. Richard has been recognized as one of the most influential artists in Ireland by various galleries and magazines. Here’s how he reacts to that.     (hint: he doesn’t like spreadsheets)   10:25 - Why Richard Chooses to have a blog. It acts as a diary, a contact tool, a marketing tool, and it’s really, really useful.    13:00 - figuring out what’s newsworthy and how to get people interested in your story   15:00 - Minnie asks why Richard decided to move to Thailand for a while, and how traveling changed his art (he got to live there and develop his work cheaply).    16:50 - printmaking. Should you sell prints of your art? How Richard is dealing with that decision right now is a great lesson for other artists. Richard & Melissa give a powerful short masterclass on how to make this decision.    23:00 - How Richard has dealt with all of the critics and gallery owners heaping praise on him, and how that experience informs his art.    27:30 - Richard reads a poem that he loves by John O’Donahue. It’s called For the Artist at the Start of Day. This is easily the most moving ending to one of our podcasts so far.
