Big Shot Bob and the team dive deep into various hot topics in sports. Starting with a heated discussion about Clemson’s Dabo Swinney calling out other teams for tampering with his players, Big Shot Bob contends that while Dabo has a point, the NCAA’s lack of rules makes it a lawless environment. The conversation shifts to the adverse effects of the transfer portal on high school athletes' recruitment, emphasizing how the portal's existence has complicated the traditional process of getting into college sports. The episode also covers Deion Sanders' new rules at Colorado, where he implements monetary penalties for player infractions, igniting a debate on the fairness and feasibility of such fines for college athletes who may not be making significant NIL money. The hosts argue whether it’s a fair method of discipline or if it could potentially push players to transfer out. Additionally, the notion of potential trades for college players surfaces, with the crew discussing the complexities and unlikely feasibility of such trades given the current state of college athletics. Towards the end, the show explores the longevity of players in the modern NBA, citing how current stars like LeBron James and Stephen Curry continue to excel well into their late 30s and early 40s. The hosts contrast this with older generations, attributing the shift to improved fitness regimes and a more offensively driven game. They wrap up with a light-hearted segment about sentimental items that have stood the test of time, sharing personal stories of cherished belongings, from old clothes to long-lived cars, bringing a humorous and nostalgic close to the episode. 00:00 Introduction and Host Greetings 00:58 Dabo Swinney's Rant on Tampering 01:42 NCAA's Lack of Guardrails 02:32 Accountability in College Sports 03:24 Coaches vs. Players: Double Standards 07:16 Impact of Transfer Portal on High School Recruits 10:18 NIL Deals and Player Fines 14:37 The Future of College Sports: Collective Bargaining and Unionization 15:17 The Concept of Trading College Players 17:04 Aging NBA Stars: Performance and Longevity 19:49 Will We See Another 73-9 Season? 21:15 The Emotional Attachment to Personal Belongings
Stewart Alsop interviews Tomas Yu, CEO and founder of Turn-On Financial Technologies, on this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast. They explore how Yu's company is revolutionizing the closed-loop payment ecosystem by creating a universal float system that allows gift card credits to be used across multiple merchants rather than being locked to a single business like Starbucks. The conversation covers the complexities of fintech regulation, the differences between open and closed loop payment systems, and Yu's unique background that combines Korean martial arts discipline with Mexican polo culture. They also dive into Yu's passion for polo, discussing the intimate relationship between rider and horse, the sport's elitist tendencies in different regions, and his efforts to build polo communities from El Paso to New Mexico. Turn-On Technologies is revolutionizing payment systems through behavioral finance by creating a decentralized "float" system. Unlike traditional gift cards that lock customers into single merchants like Starbucks, Turn-On allows universal credit that works across their entire merchant ecosystem. This addresses the massive gift card market where companies like Starbucks hold billions in customer funds that can only be used at their locations.2. The financial industry operates on an exclusionary "closed loop" versus "open loop" system that creates significant friction and fees. Closed loop systems keep money within specific ecosystems without conversion to cash, while open loop systems allow cash withdrawal but trigger heavy regulation. Every transaction through traditional payment processors like Stripe can cost merchants 3-8% in fees, representing a massive burden on businesses.3. Point-of-sale systems function as the financial bloodstream and credit scoring mechanism for businesses. These systems track all card transactions and serve as the primary data source for merchant lending decisions. The gap between POS records and bank deposits reveals cash transactions that businesses may not be reporting, making POS data crucial for assessing business creditworthiness and loan risk.4. Traditional FinTech professionals often miss obvious opportunities due to ego and institutional thinking. Yu encountered resistance from established FinTech experts who initially dismissed his gift card-focused approach, despite the trillion-dollar market size. The financial industry's complexity is sometimes artificially maintained to exclude outsiders rather than serve genuine regulatory purposes.5. The information age is creating a fundamental divide between curious, resourceful individuals and those stuck in credentialist systems. With AI and LLMs amplifying human capability, people who ask the right questions and maintain curiosity will become exponentially more effective. Meanwhile, those relying on traditional credentials without underlying curiosity will fall further behind, creating unprecedented economic and social divergence.6. Polo serves as a powerful business metaphor and relationship-building tool that mirrors modern entrepreneurial challenges. Like mixed martial arts evolved from testing individual disciplines, business success now requires being competent across multiple areas rather than excelling in just one specialty. The sport also creates unique networking opportunities and teaches valuable lessons about partnership between human and animal.7. International financial systems reveal how governments use complexity and capital controls to maintain power over citizens. Yu's observations about Argentina's financial restrictions and the prevalence of cash economies in Latin America illustrate how regulatory complexity often serves political rather than protective purposes, creating opportunities for alternative financial systems that provide genuine value to users.

Ben Dhiman has one of the best names in the sport, and he actually earned it. We talk nicknames, alter egos, and the wild cat energy he taps into when racing, then rewind to the thru hiking years that shaped his brain, his grit, and his need to keep pushing the edge. From the AT and CDT to the Hayduke and a full-on Himalayan mission in Nepal, Ben explains why big adventures can be both glorious and miserable, and why thru hiking can “ruin you” in the best and worst ways. Then we follow the pivot into trail running, pacing Hardrock almost by accident, showing up to races undertrained on hiking fitness and stubborn confidence, and eventually forcing the door down in Europe the old-school way, by racing hard and winning. We also get into family, balancing ambition with real life, his coaching philosophy, and why he treats winter as an off season where the work goes up and the pounding goes down.Chapters00:00 The Origins of the 'Demon' Nickname05:34 Mental Clarity Through Hiking08:25 The Impact of Thru-Hiking on Personal Growth11:38 Transitioning to Trail Running14:37 The Journey to Becoming a Competitive Runner17:34 Navigating the World of Sponsorships20:25 Racing in Europe vs. America23:23 The Challenge of Proving Oneself26:16 The Evolution of Thru-Hiking Experiences30:49 Navigating the Wilderness: From Maps to Experience33:18 The Call of the Himalayas: Planning the Adventure35:06 Challenges in the Himalayas: Red Tape and Realities37:58 Surviving the Elements: A Tale of Perseverance41:43 The Role of Guides: Navigating Culture and Communication43:24 Resupply Strategies: Making the Most of Local Resources45:29 Reflections on Thru-Hiking: Contentment and Progression49:35 Shifting Focus: From Thru-Hiking to Ultra Running56:22 The Addictive Nature of Adventure: Community vs. Solitude56:53 The Community of Thru-Hiking01:00:28 Mental States in Long-Distance Hiking01:05:57 The Dynamics of Team vs. Solo Hiking01:12:37 Coaching and Evolving as an Athlete01:19:05 Skiing as a Complement to Running01:20:56 The Journey of Thru-Hiking and Ultra Running01:21:28 Living Abroad and Competitive Spirit in SportsSupport our Sponsors: Sawyer: https://sawyerdirect.net/Janji (code: Freeoutside): https://snp.link/a0bfb726CS Coffee: CSinstant.coffeeGarage Grown Gear: https://snp.link/db1ba8abSubscribe to Substack: http://freeoutside.substack.comSupport this content on patreon: HTTP://patreon.com/freeoutsideBuy my book "Free Outside" on Amazon: https://amzn.to/39LpoSFEmail me to buy a signed copy of my book, "Free Outside" at jeff@freeoutside.comWatch the movie about setting the record on the Colorado Trail: https://tubitv.com/movies/100019916/free-outsideWebsite: www.Freeoutside.comInstagram: thefreeoutsidefacebook: www.facebook.com/freeoutside#Trailrunning #Runningnews #Outdoors #Outdooradventure

Send us a textWhen a new year starts, a lot of people quietly hope their relationship will feel lighter by now.Less tension.Less distance.Fewer conversations that end in the same painful place. But if it still feels hard to get through to each other, this episode is your reminder that you're not broken and you're not alone. In this conversation, we unpack the skill that quietly determines whether your conversations create connection or turn into conflict: emotional regulation.Because most couples don't actually need “better communication” first. They need more emotional stability first. You'll learn why emotional regulation is the gateway skill that makes every other relationship tool work, especially when life feels intense, stressful, or unsafe and your nervous system is already carrying too much.In this episode, we cover:Why “we should just talk it through” often backfires when emotions are highHow stress and uncertainty show up as tone, impatience, and quick reactivity at homeThe missing concept most couples never learned: emotional capacity (and how it impacts conflict)How emotional regulation works in real life, using the “emotional plank” metaphorThe tiny moment where everything changes: catching tension early enough to choose a different responseA practical reframe that can stop escalation fast: shifting from “don't want” language to “want” languageWhy emotional regulation is not “being nice,” “stuffing it,” or “letting things slide”What to do when you feel like you're the only one doing the work (and why it still matters)A simple practice to build your regulation reps: short rounds of listening, even when you disagreeA challenge you can try today: a literal plank to connect the body to emotional tension and build awarenessKey takeawayIf conversations keep collapsing, it's often not because you don't love each other. It's because your nervous systems are overloaded and you're trying to have hard conversations without the foundation that makes them safe.Stability first. In this episode of Scene from Above, Julia Wagemann speaks with Aimee Barciauskas, Data Engineer at Development Seed, about what it actually takes to make Earth observation data usable at scale. For the past seven years, Aimee has worked closely with NASA's IMPACT team, supporting the agency's transition to cloud-native workflows. From initiatives like the Multi-Mission Algorithm and Analysis Platform (MAAP) to community-driven tooling and documentation, her work sits at the intersection of data engineering, open science, and real-world impact. Together, Julia and Aimee unpack: What “cloud-friendly” really means (beyond storing data in the cloud) The technical and cultural barriers teams still face Why reproducibility is as much about habits as it is about tools How frictionless workflows could shape the future of Earth science A practical conversation for anyone working with large-scale geospatial data and thinking about how to move from experimentation to repeatable, shareable workflows. AI progress is often measured by the number of pilots launched, but this episode argues the real unit of progress should be how many AI use cases are reliably in production and embedded into everyday systems. Shalini Kapoor distinguishes AI innovation (models, chips, and breakthroughs) from AI adoption, emphasizing that adoption is frequently harder because it demands institutional integration, behavior change, and clear accountability—especially when AI advice affects livelihoods, health outcomes, or legal decisions.Tanvi Lall explains “pilot purgatory” as the frustrating middle state where use cases never move beyond controlled deployments. She shares how recurring barriers—compute constraints within real institutions (not just cloud credits), fragmented workflows, late-stage safety design, lack of sustained funding, and weak organizational readiness—prevent diffusion. The conversation highlights the UCAF approach to defining a use case as a commitment to improve a specific outcome for a specific persona in a specific context, and why trust and accountability are as central as the technology layer. The episode also explores “horizontal enablers” that make scale possible—data readiness, multilingual language support, voice interfaces for last-mile access, workforce integration, and guardrails. A detailed example (Mahavistar in Maharashtra) illustrates what scaling can look like when government partnership, data pipelines, voice infrastructure, safeguards, and long-term funding align. Welcome to Impact Theory with Tom Bilyeu. In today's episode, Tom sits down with Morgan Housel, bestselling author and expert on the psychology of money, for a candid and eye-opening discussion about the housing crisis and the far-reaching consequences it has on our society. Together, they dig deep into how housing affordability is at the heart of issues like declining marriage rates, mental health struggles, fertility crises, and even substance abuse. You'll hear Morgan lay out why buying a home is more than a financial milestone—it's a fundamental step into adulthood, community, and stability. Tom and Morgan also explore the cyclical nature of inequality throughout history, the role of inflation and debt in causing economic divides, and why current solutions to the housing shortage miss the mark. They challenge popular policies and talk about the real reasons why affordable homes are scarce—touching on everything from NIMBYism to regulatory capture—and what might need to change if we want to reverse trends that threaten generational prosperity. Whether you're worried about the future of the economy, curious about how political cycles influence policy, or just want practical advice for navigating today's financial uncertainty, this episode offers both sobering insights and a dose of hope. Oral arguments are scheduled for February 11th, when the South Carolina Supreme Court will hear Murdaugh's appeal against his murder charges. Impact discusses the parameters for the Court set up for arguments. Next an update on the Tepe murders. Dec 30, Spencer and Monique Tepe were found dead in their home. Episode Summary: In this episode, we explore the powerful theme of fear from a biblical perspective, specifically tailored for the unique challenges faced by single mothers. Drawing from the first day of the devotional, "Courage to Believe: 21 Day Devotional for Single Moms," we discuss how fear can impact our decisions and how to find peace by trusting in God's promises.Key Takeaways:Acknowledge Your Emotions: Recognizing and naming specific fears (scarcity, rejection, loss) can help you manage your response and create healthy distance from the emotion.Trust vs. Control: Relying on our own strength alone can lead to compromising our values; trusting God means waiting on His timing and provision. The Power of Scriptural Affirmation: Regularly speaking God's promises, such as Isaiah 41:10, can transform your mindset from one of fear to one of peace and strength.God as Your Comforter: Just as a parent comforts a child, God provides real assurance and strength, even when our circumstances feel overwhelming.Episode Breakdown:0:00 - Introduction to the Solo Mom JourneyA warm welcome to the Solo Moms community.
