Was machen erfolgreiche Nachhaltigkeitspioniere anders? Shopping with AI: IBM Survey Says Consumers Love It But Don't Love How Companies Use Their Data

Consumers Crave AI with Shopping But Want More Control Over How Companies Use Their Data!   The IBM Institute for Business Value, decided to survey 20,000 consumers across 26 countries on their digital habits, their use of AI and generative AI, and their expectations for brands. So what were the results of the survey? I invited the big IBM retail guy, Joe Dittmar, to join me to share what they found out.  Let's just say, most consumers want to receive information, advertisements, and offerings from stores that are relevant to their specific interests, but a whole bunch say they really really want more control over how companies use their data.  Joe Dittmar leads IBM's Retail Industry across the company's portfolio which includes Grocery, Department, Warehouse, Specialty, Discount, Convenience, Restaurants, and Online Retailers.   He shared that consumers are unsatisfied with both in-store (9% satisfaction) and online (14% satisfaction) experiences. As a consumer I'm obviously not alone being uncomfortable with a 100 follow up marketing emails from a company I've bought just one pair of pants from and had to return because they didn't fit right.  Joe said, AI's making an effort to tailor communication more effectively to individual preferences. He also explained that retailers are currently managing inventory conservatively, leading to less variety in stores—a strategy resulting from the need to reduce inventory post-COVID.  The opportunity for retailers he said, is to improve customer experience by integrating online options when in-store selections are limited.  IBM has been a longstanding participant in the retail industry, inventing the cash register and credit card in case you didn't know that. Now they are helping iconic brands leverage AI to improve operational efficiencies.  The survey showed that consumers are more open to adopting AI than expected, including interacting with virtual agents that can fast-track customers to human agents based on their tone and urgency. ( Wow, now I don't feel so bad about occasionally losing it and yelling… ‘Give Me a Human!' LOL) Good insight by Joe and IBM! Aspiring retail talent can learn from their expertise.   About Joe Dittmar:  Joe is known for helping retail and consumer product clients worldwide to transform their business models and consumer-facing activities. He is a leader in implementing complex business and technology solutions that drive improved performance. In 2022, Joe was honored with IBM's highest industry designation, Distinguished Industry Leader, for his contributions to innovation in the industry and impact on IBM's clients throughout his career. Joe serves on various industry advisory boards including the National Retail Federation Board of Directors. He actively mentors aspiring retail talent around the world.

The IBM Institute of Business Value report, 2023 Global Outlook for Banking and Financial Markets, paints three themes facing banks and financial markets: (1) an uncertain world calls for financial services institutions that can flex as needed; (2) healthier financial performance depends, in part, on business and technology leaders who function as coequals; and (3) the next systemic crisis could be an operational one.On the fintech side, the bank runs at Silicon Bank Valley and Silvergate Bank and the closure of Signature Bank by regulators suggests not all is rosy for those in the fintech sector as investors put greater scrutiny on fintechs. On the health and wellness front, the longevity of the pandemic in modern times may have sparked a renewed emphasis on personal well-being, and just as important, the willingness of individuals to use digital technologies to enable this newfound interest.AGBA describes itself as a "one-of-a-kind wealth and health platform" whose ambition is to help people enjoy wealth and health with the ease they deserve. LARRY PRUSAK:  It's what a knowledgeable person knows.  Think about, if you go to a dentist, a dentist knows how to fix your teeth.  If he wasn't knowledgeable, you wouldn't be going to him.  We're talking about working knowledge, the knowledge that allows people to do things.  There's other sorts of knowledge.  There's religious knowledge, aesthetic knowledge, all sorts of things.  But we're talking about the knowledge that allows you to do something, and do it well.  Information is not knowledge.  Knowledge isn't data.

It's certain that thought leadership brings great value to an organization, but how do you calculate the actual ROI of your thought leadership investment? To demystify the ROI of thought leadership, I've invited Cindy Anderson and Anthony Marshall to join me for a discussion. Cindy Anderson is the Global Lead for Thought Leadership Engagement and Eminence, and Anthony Marshall is the Senior Research Director for Thought Leadership, both from the IBM Institute for Business Value.  In this episode, we talk about the IBM Institute for Business Value's 20 year history delivering thought-provoking insights to business leaders about emerging trends, opportunities, and challenges. Their thought leadership reports offer prescriptive recommendations to address the most pressing challenges and opportunities, and to help determine future organizational success. Since 2004, they have conducted groundbreaking surveys, growing from 300 CEO respondents to more than 3000. Due to the long history of the survey, they have a long horizon of data to track global changes in the CEO role, responsibilities, and best practices.    Recently, Cindy and Anthony lead a double blind survey of CEOs, seeking to discover the ROI of thought leadership. The survey included questions on thought leadership consumption, purchasing decisions, and more, all designed to shape insight on the effects of thought leadership, and guide CEO spending. The result was shocking! The data showed that the ROI was 156%, more than 16 times a typical marketing campaign's effectiveness. We wrap up the conversation discussing how Cindy and Anthony intend to tell the story of their research. They are writing a book which will be published in 2023, including survey data, information captured in follow-ups, the calculations used, and even a tool that companies can use to calculate their own thought leadership ROI! If you've ever tried to measure the impact of your org's thought leadership investment, this is a critical episode. Don't miss it! Three Key Takeaways: * Long-term surveys provide essential longitudinal data, showing change over time and tracking trends that underline permanent global shifts. * In order for thought leadership to flourish in an organization there needs to be an immense level of support from the CEOs - the TL team can't do it alone! * CEOs spend an average of 2 hours a week consuming thought leadership. To keep them engaged, you need to produce content that is rigorous, robust, and relevant.

How 5G and Edge Computing Will Help Redefine Who Wins in the Booming Digital Economy, and How That Impacts Telcos

In this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast, Interview Series, I'm joined by Chad Andrews, the Global Leader for Telecom, Media and Entertainment at the IBM Institute for Business Value. Our conversation today focuses on the changes 5G and edge computing will bring to our digital economy, and we also take a look at IBM Institute for Business Value's recent study The End of Communications Services as We Know Them? That is a bold survey headline, but for those of us in the industry, we know the impact that 5G and edge computing will have on the digital economy moving forward will be disruptive to say the least. And I know that sentiment was echoed in IBM's findings in the survey.  The End of Communications Services as We Know Them? digs deeper into a trend we've all been seeing – which is that communication service providers will miss out on the value that 5G and edge computing can provide unless they adapt today. The IBM study surveyed 500 global telecommunications executives in 21 countries — so it's a decent sample set that gives some insight into where the industry is headed. Chad and I discussed some of the findings of the report. These include: For CSPs to find true value in 5G and edge computing, they must adopt cloud native digital services, applications, and solutions. Along with cloud native platforms and applications, CSPs will need to make strategic operational decisions in order to compete long-term against cloud native companies. Platforms that are already established at scale will super the hypergrowth of the decade. We also discussed some of the reasons the IBM Institute for Business Value is predicting the global digital economy will grow two to three times this decade, as well as the implications this will have on businesses across different sectors. The graphic below is from The End of Communications Services as We Know Them?

In this newest episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast, analysts Ron Westfall and Shelly Kramer discuss Rakuten's moves in the 5G market and how the company is essentially throwing down the gauntlet for the rest of the CSP ecosystem. In this conversation, we cover the benefits of the early mover advantage for CSPs, along with the implications for the Open RAN segment and the overall 5G market developments of the last week. Some of the things we touched in this 5G-focused webcast included: Why Rakuten's acquisition of $1B acquisition of Altiostar is a 5G game changer. Rakuten is raising the competitive stakes across the entire 5G ecosystem. With this $1 billion acquisition of an Open RAN specialist, Rakuten is providing a template for how Communications Service Providers (CSPs) can gain a strategic competitive edge in the cloud-based 5G ecosystem – own more of the software assets key to long-term 5G build and innovation. Some highlights from the research out of IBM's Institute for Business Value (presented in a recent episode of our show) on the serious advantages that exist for fast-moving CSPs in the current market. Find the research report from IBM Institute for Business Value here: The end of communications services as we know them, focused on how 5G and edge will help define who wins in the booming digital economy The strategic impact on the overall Open RAN market segment of Altiostar agreeing to merge with Rakuten to lock-in its long-term competitiveness. As an independent Open RAN supplier, Altiostar was more vulnerable to any delays in CSP deployment of Open RAN technology as well as increasing pressure from incumbent RAN players, such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Samsung, increasing their targeting of the Open RAN space. How the Rakuten acquisition of Altiostar epitomizes the approach many CSPs should adopt, which is the strategic acquisition of telco-specific and cloud-specific software assets. The market significance of Rakuten and 1&1 AG partnering to build Germany's fourth mobile network based on a fully virtualized mobile network using Open RAN technology. Why the formation of the Rakuten Symphony unit, combining Rakuten Communications Platform (RCP), Open RAN software, and Rakuten's international telco solutions, can accelerate ecosystem adoption of Open RAN and Open 5G technology.

For this episode of the Futurum Tech Webcast, I am joined by my colleague, fellow analyst ,and founding partner, Shelly Kramer, for a conversation about recent developments in the 5G market including key Mobile World Congress 2021 developments. In this episode, we covered: The expansion of the alliance between Ericsson and Google Cloud and why it improves Ericsson's 5G proposition and overall partnership momentum in the 5G space. Predictions from the IBM Institute for Business Value on how 5G and edge computing will help redefine the coming years, and some key data points from their recent study, “The end of communications services as we know them?” focused on 5G and edge and what's ahead for CSPs. How strategic partnerships are playing a key role for telcos and their ability to both embrace rapid transformation and monetize their investments in 5G. Qualcomm and Capgemini prudently used the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2021 event to promote their partnership aimed at supporting and powering 5G private network builds. The alliance is emphasizing Capgemini's systems integrator (SI) portfolio and expertise playing a key role in using Qualcomm's 5G Private network system to enable customer business transformation as well as leveraging 5G ecosystem resources to benefit the duo's private network mission. Netcracker, NEC, and AWS are demonstrating why the 5G Core (5GC) is ready for a larger role in supporting and scaling monetized 5G services. Already NEC is deploying its 5G (and 4G) Mobile Core Solution on AWS across multiple operator production networks in Japan. This is key, as NEC is now prepared to assist operators in their quest to monetize 5G services, primarily through innovative B2X offerings.

One finding in particular was rather interesting, Three times as many Gen Zers shop in a store most of the time compared to online.
