Brian Walshe was supposed to be on trial this week. But instead of jury selection and evidence, we got a mental health evaluation. Instead of justice for Ana Walshe, we got another delay. In this episode, we break down exactly how Brian Walshe — the Massachusetts man accused of murdering and dismembering his wife — managed to hit pause on his own trial just days before it was set to begin. The reason? His attorneys claim he's no longer competent to stand trial, citing “mental and physical decline” following a jailhouse stabbing. But let's look at the pattern here. This is the same man who told police his wife left for a work emergency — when he knew she hadn't. The same man caught on surveillance buying mops, tarps, and cleaning supplies the day after she vanished. The same man who googled “how to dispose of a body” on a child's iPad. And now he's too unwell to face a jury? We're digging into the forensic timeline, the legal maneuvers, and the broader psychology of a man who appears to be using the legal system not to defend himself — but to delay the inevitable. Because in a case without a body, time is leverage. Delay is strategy. And every new excuse buys him more of both. This isn't just about a competency evaluation. It's about a pattern of control, manipulation, and deflection — the same pattern that's been playing out since the moment Ana disappeared. So how long can he run the clock? And will the system ever hold him to it? Watch now — because justice may be patient, but it doesn't wait forever. #AnaWalshe #BrianWalshe #TrueCrimePodcast #HiddenKillers #ForensicPsychology #MurderTrial #JusticeDelayed #CompetencyHearing #TrueCrimeCommunity #LegalStrategy Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video? On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, Avik speaks with Kelly Lorenzen—award-winning entrepreneur and CEO of KLM Consulting—about sustainable entrepreneurship. Kelly unpacks practical systems for avoiding burnout, her CODA method for delegation, the role of community, and why health must sit at the center of every founder's strategy. She also shares how navigating breast cancer clarified her definition of success and pushed her to create businesses that serve life, not consume it. This focused conversation gives founders concrete steps to reclaim time, protect well-being, and scale with intention.   About the guest  : Kelly Lorenzen is the CEO of KLM Consulting (DuplicateMyselfKLM.com), a marketing and management firm helping small businesses grow sustainably. With 20+ years of ownership experience, a degree in Entrepreneurship & Communications from Arizona State, and a PMP certification, Kelly is a breast-cancer survivor, philanthropist, and mentor committed to founder health, community, and systems that scale.   Key takeaways: Resilience is built, not born: repetitive “recover and re-tool” cycles created capacity to withstand shocks. Mindset interrupt: quickly redirect negative spirals to neutral or positive action to prevent cognitive tailspins during crises. CODA for workload clarity:K = Keep only tasks only you can do; O = Outsource expert work (tax, marketing); D = Delegate five- to ten-minute tasks; A = Automate repeatables. Health first, always: preventive care and daily self-care are strategic levers, not luxuries. Community is a safety net: mentors, peers, and teams function like “insurance” when life hits. Redefine success: choose wise ambition—business should sustain your life, not replace it. Service fuels leadership: philanthropy and giving back restore meaning and reduce isolation. Practical next steps: brain-dump tasks, tag with CODA, book your overdue health check, and schedule one weekly connection that isn't about sales.   Connect with the guest   LinkedIn: Kelly Lorenzen Website: https://duplicatemyselfklm.com/   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with Kyra Faison Gardner—certified transformational life & retirement coach, author of Who Do You Think You Are?, and founder of Prospect & Refuge Life—about “threshold alchemy”: using life transitions (midlife shifts, retirement, loss, reinvention) to create purpose. Kyra unpacks practical rituals (silence at sunrise, gratitude journaling, mindful community) and a direct message: you don't need permission to change direction. This episode is built for listeners seeking midlife reinvention, post-career identity, spiritual grounding, and daily practices that stick.   About the Guest:   Kyra Faison Gardner is a transformational life & retirement coach and author of Who Do You Think You Are? After more than 20 years as a founder/CEO—and rebuilding after a devastating house fire—she now helps people in their second and third acts redesign life with intention through Prospect & Refuge Life.   Key Takeaways: Threshold alchemy defined: transform uncertain life stages into meaningful new chapters by reframing identity beyond roles and titles. Identity ≠ job: you are not your career, marital status, or parental role; reinvention starts when you expand who you believe you are. Rituals over routines: morning silence, sunrise, brief meditation, and gratitude journaling stabilize mood and sharpen purpose. Body-markers for intention: simple anchors (remove shoes, anoint hands/feet, light a candle) signal your nervous system it's time to focus. Community matters: find cohorts or circles that see your current self and support who you're becoming. Permission slip: you already have permission to be happy, change your mind, and pursue long-delayed curiosities. Spiritual flexibility: you don't need the “right” label for the sacred; name it how it resonates and keep going. Micro-choices win: small, repeatable acts (feed the birds, a poem, one page of writing) accumulate into identity change. From trauma to truth: healing isn't linear; honest writing and coaching help you share without losing peace. Aging as expansion: retirement and midlife aren't endings—they're invitations to create, learn, and serve.   Connect with the Guest   Website: https://www.prospectrefugelife.com/ Substack: Seeking Prospect & Refuge (poetry, blessings, essays)   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? Food, Faith & Epigenetics: Practical Plant-Based Steps to Prevent Chronic Disease with Dr. Amanda Adkins

    Healthy Mind, Healthy Life

In this episode of Healthy Waves, Dr. Amanda Adkins—double-board certified in internal and lifestyle medicine with a certificate in plant-based nutrition—breaks down practical, evidence-based steps women can use to reduce risk of diabetes, hypertension and chronic inflammation. We cover high-impact foods (leafy greens, beans, whole-food plants), simple habit swaps for busy caregivers, how to avoid restriction cycles, and how lifestyle choices influence gene expression (epigenetics). If you want clear, scalable strategies that combine science and faith for long-term health, this episode delivers actionable guidance you can start this week. About the guest: Dr. Amanda Adkins is a lifestyle medicine physician and health strategist who helps women prevent — and sometimes reverse — chronic conditions through plant-forward nutrition, movement, sleep and stress management. She blends clinical evidence with spiritual grounding to create sustainable, habit-based care. Key takeaways: Prioritize leafy greens daily: they supply nitrates and antioxidants that support vascular health and blood pressure control. Add beans and legumes for fiber to stabilise blood glucose — plant protein and fibre lower insulin resistance. Reduce saturated fat and refined carbs; most benefits come from adding whole plants rather than punitive restriction. When pressed for time, choose fresh, pre-made foods cautiously: check ingredients for added sugar, salt, and fats. Build habits by adding before subtracting — introduce plant foods first, then crowd out less healthy options to avoid restriction cycles. Measure health with function metrics (energy, BP, sleep) rather than only scale weight to prevent shame and perfectionism. Protein concerns on plant diets are typically overstated — most people meet needs via beans, lentils, nuts and whole grains. Epigenetics: genes are a deck of cards — lifestyle (diet, sleep, stress, movement) helps “play the hand” differently and can reduce disease risk. Self-care is not selfish: short, consistent investment in rest, food prep, and movement improves long-term capacity to care for others. Small, repeatable keystone habits + tracking two feel/function metrics yield sustainable improvement vs big, short-term overhauls. How listeners can connect with Dr. Amanda Adkins:   Website & bookings: https://www.dramandamd.com/ Educational only. Not medical advice. On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with author and transformation coach Chandra Lynn about her framework Root to Rise: How to Love Life. Chandra breaks down the five “root” areas (health, relationships/self, career, friends, family) and the six human needs adapted from Maslow to show how high achievers and everyday people get stuck in survival mode—and how to shift into purposeful, balanced living. You'll learn practical tools like the Emotional Triad, simple journaling prompts (“What do I want? Why do I want it? What am I willing to do about it?”), and how defining your taproot (your why) becomes fuel for resilient action.   About the guest  : Chandra Lynn is the author of Root to Rise: How to Love Life, a certified transformation coach, and founder of GlowLiving. After 25 years leading marketing for brands like Apple and Mercedes, she built a method blending human needs psychology with soulful practices to help people cultivate resilience, balance, and purpose.   Key takeaways: Root to Rise framework: Balance five roots—health, relationship/self, career, friends, family—then align them with six human needs to exit survival mode and create fulfillment. Six human needs (adapted): Security/certainty, variety, connection/intimacy, growth, significance/self-worth, and transcendence/contribution. From overwhelm to clarity: Use three prompts—What do I want? Why do I want it? What am I willing to do about it?—to prioritize healthy, meaningful action. Emotional Triad tool: Shift state by changing (1) physiology (move, breathe, sunlight), (2) focus (gratitude, possibility), and (3) meaning/self-talk (be your own best friend). Taproot = your why: Identify the deeper motivation that sustains momentum when discipline fades (e.g., showing up as the best parent/leader/creator). Embodied signals: Survival mode shows up as tension, sleep and appetite swings; fulfillment feels balanced, energized, and self-supportive. Journal to integrate: Ask great questions, write first, analyze later—let insight surface before you optimize. Update the blueprint: Release outdated childhood expectations; define success on present values, not social comparison.   Connect with the guest   Website: https://glowliving.com/ Signed book + 25% off (U.S. only): glowliving.etsy.com — use code THRIVE25 Also available on Amazon (international orders)   Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? https://teachhoops.com/ In a recent episode of "Coach Unplugged," hosts Coach Collins and Coach Steger discuss the challenges high school athletes and coaches face when transitioning from fall sports like football or soccer to the basketball season. They emphasize the importance of understanding both the physical and mental adjustments required during this period. Building Personal Connections Coach Collins highlights the significance of knowing each player's name to foster stronger relationships and enhance communication. Using a player's name captures their attention and makes them feel valued, which is crucial for team cohesion. Balancing Expectations and Well-being The coaches stress that athletes should not be overwhelmed immediately after their fall sports season. Coach Collins avoids holding evening open gyms in September to prevent adding stress to players already committed to other sports. Instead, he offers morning sessions for those interested, respecting their time and need for rest. Understanding Physical Differences Between Sports Transitioning athletes need time to adjust to basketball's continuous pace, which differs from the stop-and-go nature of sports like football. Coaches should implement gradual conditioning programs to prevent injuries and fatigue, recognizing that immediate peak performance is unrealistic. Mental Health and Avoiding Burnout The mental shift between seasons is as crucial as the physical one. Overloading athletes can lead to burnout. Providing mental breaks and low-pressure activities like shooting practice helps athletes enjoy the game without feeling overwhelmed. Collaborating with Other Coaches Maintaining positive relationships with other sports coaches is vital. Open communication ensures athletes are not caught between conflicting commitments and that their best interests are prioritized. Providing Flexible Opportunities Offering optional activities allows athletes to engage with basketball without feeling obligated. This flexibility maintains their enthusiasm and prevents them from being overwhelmed by additional commitments. Supporting Non-Fall Sport Athletes Coaches can encourage athletes not participating in fall sports to focus on conditioning and skill development but should avoid excessive pressure. A balanced approach prepares them physically without risking burnout. Emphasizing Skill Development Focusing on shooting and fundamental skills during the transition period helps athletes acclimate to basketball. It provides a low-impact way to improve performance and serves as a mental break. Avoiding Early Season Burnout Starting the season too intensely can cause athletes to peak early and lose momentum. Coaches should pace the season appropriately, gradually increasing intensity to keep athletes fresh and engaged. Conclusion: Start Slow to Finish Strong The key message is to "start slow to finish strong." By pacing the transition and focusing on athletes' physical and mental health, coaches can set their teams up for a successful season. This approach leads to sustained performance and a more enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit podcastchoices.com/adchoices

On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty speaks with Kasia Bukowska—an equine therapist, artist, and mindset mentor—about how horses act as living mirrors for our emotions. Kasia shares her journey from a lupus diagnosis and doctors saying she'd never ride again to regulating her nervous system, rebuilding identity, and teaching connection-first horsemanship. We cover equine-assisted healing, reading energy over “technique,” creating psychological safety with animals, and practical ways non-riders can cultivate grounded presence.   About the guest   Kasia Bukowska is an internationally recognized equine therapist, artist, and mindset mentor. Featured in Sidelines, Horse Illustrated, and on the cover of Barefoot Horse, she blends energy work, emotional awareness, and creative expression to help people release blocks, regulate their nervous systems, and reconnect with authentic self-trust—partnering with horses as teachers.   Key takeaways: Horses mirror our internal state; they respond to our truth, not our masks, making them powerful partners for nervous system regulation and trauma healing. Connection and energetic safety outperform rigid “technique.” When pressure and performance drop, curiosity and learning rise—for both human and horse. A slower equine heart rate and calm presence entrain us toward steadier breath and body; co-regulation creates conditions for change. Identity work is central: Kasia's healing moved from “riding again” to valuing herself beyond achievement, borrowing her horses' unconditional regard as a bridge to self-worth. Practical start for non-riders: observe animals (even pets) without agenda; notice emotional reactions, breathe, and let insight arise. Presence > control. With dysregulated horses (or people), build safety first: create a protected space, invite play and novelty (e.g., props), reward curiosity, and allow movement to discharge energy. Progress collapses when expectations harden; staying playful, flexible, and patient maintains trust and results. Feeling “stuck” isn't failure—it's a precursor to clarity. Fully feeling emotions can open space for creative solutions and next steps.   How to connect with the guest  : Social: equestriankasiabukowska on Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook Art: https://kasiabukowska.com/ Equine work: https://www.hearthorseexperience.com/    If you're in immediate crisis, contact local emergency services or your regional suicide prevention helpline.   Here are reliable, widely used crisis lines by region:   United States  :     988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline — call or text 988, or chat at 988lifeline.org (24/7). On Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty sits down with Caleb Matthews—founder of SeeLink, dream interpreter, and spiritual strategist—to break down his SSB method (Spirit–Soul–Body) and the 3 Cs (Contract, Construct, Conform). We discuss why alignment starts in the spirit, how to avoid wearing someone else's “armor,” and practical ways to translate dreams into strategy. If you've felt overstimulated and under-centered, this episode gives a direct framework to regain sovereignty over your inner house and lead from design, not pressure.   About the guest:   Caleb Matthews is a seer-strategist and founder of SeeLink. For 20+ years he's helped people decode their DNA of design through dream work, spiritual alignment, and practical action. He teaches the SSB framework and the “armor principle”—leading from your unique design rather than conforming to trends.   Key takeaways: SSB first principles: Start alignment from the spirit, renew the mind (soul), then embody through the body—not the other way around. Armor principle: Don't wear someone else's “armor.” Borrow tactics; keep your birthright design. 3 Cs framework: Contract: Make conscious agreements—with God/higher power and with yourself—about who you are and what you serve. Construct: Build systems and routines that fit your wiring. (Don't) Conform: Resist peer-pressure and culture's “con job” to be a copy. Census of the senses: Regularly audit what you see, hear, speak, consume; curating inputs is a spiritual discipline. Dreams as data: Everyone dreams; keep a bedside dream journal and translate symbols into next actions. First step from numbness:Pause, set your mind “on things above,” and re-enter the day from an inner sanctuary. Healthy leadership: Purpose emerges when you live from design, not when you chase balance. One actionable move today: Write or rewrite your core contract (values, non-negotiables, callings) and decline agreements that dilute it.   How to connect with the guest   Website (speaking/content): http://www.calebmatthews.net/ YouTube: The SeeLink  Workspace/Airbnb for creators: www.theitinerantoasis.com Instagram: Caleb on the runway X/Twitter: Caleb Matthws     Want to be a guest on Healthy Mind, Healthy Life? In this episode of Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, host Avik Chakraborty sits down with Rachel Lundberg, a movement educator, chronic illness survivor, and founder of Yoga Oak University. Rachel shares her transformative journey from ballet and modern dance to creating a global yoga education platform. Together, they explore how mindful movement, breathwork, and alignment-based yoga can regulate the nervous system, release emotional tension, and support holistic well-being. Whether you are new to yoga or a seasoned practitioner, Rachel offers practical insights into using movement as a tool for emotional, mental, and spiritual growth. Learn how simple breath practices and conscious movement can unlock deep healing and reconnect you with your authentic self. About the Guest:Rachel Lundberg is a movement educator and founder of Yoga Oak University. A chronic illness survivor and truth-seeker, Rachel combines anatomy, neuroscience, and spirituality in her alignment-based yoga specialist certification programs. She is dedicated to helping individuals and healthcare providers harness the power of mindful movement for emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Key Takeaways: Movement is more than physical exercise; it is a tool for emotional and spiritual processing. Breath regulates the nervous system: inhalation activates sympathetic (fight or flight) responses; exhalation engages parasympathetic (rest and reset) responses. Simple daily practices, like conscious breath and mindful movement, can down-regulate stress and anxiety. Awareness of the body's state—activated, frozen, or depressed—guides personalized practices for healing. Sensory engagement (touch, sound, sight) can help shift energy and increase presence in the moment. Regulation doesn't require advanced yoga; even one mindful movement or one conscious breath can initiate healing. The ABC technique (Acknowledge, Breathe, Connect) helps identify bodily sensations and guide nervous system regulation. TikTok and other social media sites are full of mental health content—often short, grabby, first-person videos detailing symptoms for conditions like ADHD and autism. But what does this mean for teens and young adults who spend hours a day scrolling?A new study published in PLOS One analyzes the 100 most viewed TikTok videos about ADHD to assess both how accurate they are and how young people respond to them. Researchers found that about half of the videos were inaccurate or missing key context, and that the more TikToks young adults watched, the less critical they were of the content. For some, watching social videos about mental health conditions led them to better understand themselves and eventually get a proper diagnosis and treatment. For others it made them consider if they have conditions they don't meet the diagnostic criteria for.Host Flora Lichtman talks with the lead author of the ADHD TikTok study, Vasileia Karasavva, a PhD Student in clinical psychology at the University of British Columbia; and Dr. Jennifer Katzenstein, director of psychology, neuropsychology, and social work at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida.Guests: Vasileia Karasavva is a PhD Student in Clinical Psychology at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada.Dr. Jennifer Katzenstein is Director of Psychology, Neuropsychology and Social work and Co-director of the Center for Behavioral Health at Johns Hopkins All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida. Transcripts for each episode are available at sciencefriday.com.
