It's hard to believe that today, July 31 2025, marks 38 years since the devastating Edmonton tornado on July 31, 1987—often remembered as “Black Friday.” That day, a powerful F4 tornado tore through the city's southeast, leaving a trail of destruction and heartbreak. It claimed 27 lives and injured hundreds more, becoming one of Canada's deadliest and costliest natural disasters.Since then, it's stood as a sobering reminder of nature's force, but also of the resilience and solidarity of Albertans. Each year around this time, many still pause to reflect, remember, and honor those affected.Time moves forward, but the stories and strength of that day remain. This episode it pulled from our Patreon in memory of this day 38 years ago. November is synonymous with Black Friday, great deals but what cost? Over consumption is endangering our already fragile planet. Is it time to change our ways? This week Do You Really Know is highlighting concepts and initiatives about reducing our consumption. You might have heard of ‘reduce, reuse, recycle' a motto with the aim of encouraging us to think about how we consume and consider the impact that buying lots of stuff has on the planet. But now the high end department store Selfridges has launched a new campaign, ‘Project Earth' to try and change the way we shop: resale, repair, rental and refill is their response to customers' growing demands for sustainable shopping and move away from fast fashion and disposable goods. What is the aim? How will it work? What other changes has Selfridges planned? In under 3 minutes, we answer your questions ! This week, Ryan, Bob, and Jason swap stories from their latest fishing trips—but of course, it doesn't take long for things to go off the rails. Ryan unleashes a classic rant about googans, lake etiquette (or lack thereof), and how Southeast Michigan feels more packed than a Walmart parking lot on Black Friday. Somewhere between the complaints and the chaos, the guys get weirdly philosophical as Ryan hits Bob with some deep questions that nobody saw coming. July 12, 2025 Today's Reading: Introit for Pentecost 5 - Psalm 136:23-26; antiphon: Psalm 136:1Daily Lectionary: Judges 7:1-23; Judges 7:24-12:15; Galatians 1:1-24“Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever.” (Psalm 136:1)In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Thanksgiving has become “turkey day” in the United States (or tofurkey day if you are vegetarian or vegan). Thanksgiving in Canada is in October (that's different). Some people eat cranberry “stuff” from a can, and others make fresh cranberries (you will know them because they will tell you incessantly how good their fresh cranberries are). I would say that mashed potatoes are a must, but people differ in their love or hate of lumps in their mashed potatoes (even if they have never mashed a potato in their life). I could go on, but I won't. The only thing that we all agree on is that we are thankful when it is over. Dealing with family can be exhausting. Getting ready to go shopping on Black Friday can be even more exhausting. We gather together under the guise that we are thankful but really want to control the situation to our liking. We are thankful for things being our way. But that is not what God intends.God intends for us to be thankful all the time, not just seasonally or when it suits us. God is good all the time, not sporadically or when He feels like it. God is good when the sun shines, and the rain falls. God is good when the temperature is above 100 degrees and when it is 20 below. God's love is ours when we are at our best and when we are at our worst. We give thanks to God because He is good, not because good things are happening to us, and certainly not because we are good, because we are not good enough. So we give thanks to God on the good days and the bad. We give thanks to God then we are hungry and when we are full. We give thanks to God when we have no money and when we have plenty. We give thanks to God from the time we are born to the time we die because He is good. Eat turkey and give thanks. Celebrate Thanksgiving in October and give thanks. Eat whatever kind of cranberries and give thanks. Give thanks at Christmas, Easter, Veteran's Day, and the 4th of July. Give thanks today because God is good.In the Name + of Jesus. Amen. Now thank we all our God with hearts and hands and voices, Who wondrous things has done in whom His world rejoices; Who from our mothers arms has blessed us on our way With countless gifts of love and still is ours today. (LSB 895:1)- Rev. Roger Stites, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church in Sequim, WA.Audio Reflections Speaker: Pastor Jonathan Lackey is the pastor at Grace Lutheran Church, Vine Grove, KY.In Clarifying the Great Commission, Rev. Daniel Christian Voth identifies common omissions from our collective understanding of Jesus' farewell discourse—omissions that turn Christ's promises of forgiveness, life, and salvation into a legalistic command. It's always silly when somebody says something true and it creates a controversy. Patrick Mahomes has belly fat. He's also changed the way the game is played and is the greatest player of his generation. Reaction to my buried in the back of the podcast comments Monday went viral after Mahomes' trainer came after me on social media. He's the first trainer in history to argue that belly fat is a good thing and, like a great democrat politician, the fanatics actually believe him. It's your option to find it charming and good... it's my job to point out the belly fat will be gone someday when Mahomes gets serious like other athletes in their 30's. Kansas extended their STAR bond offer to the Royals and Chiefs and immediately Chiefs president Mark Donovan says it will take nearly a year to put something on the ballot for the team to stay in Missouri. This is insane. The Royals are rolling but it feels like too little too late. A Pirates player in KC has an awesome list of no trade teams in his contract as he obviously hates income taxes. Ron DeSantis has a better plan, a perfect plan, for Elon Musk. Mayor Q takes a dip in a new pool with a shirt and tie on and I think it's a very cool thing for him to do. Buc-ee's construction at the Speedway is delayed a couple months and Amazon Prime Day is now bigger than Black Friday.
In Hour 3, Mark Thompson kicks off with a preview of Amazon's first-ever 4-day Prime Day event, spotlighting the can't-miss deals and how it's become the Black Friday of the digital age. Then, Mark shifts to the flood risk facing parts of California, connecting lessons from Texas's recent catastrophe with an SF Chronicle warning about our own vulnerabilities. Later, Mark unpacks Israeli PM Netanyahu's visit to D.C. and his aims for Gaza's future governance—and discusses the surprising move to nominate President Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize. The hour wraps with a breakdown of Trump's much-hyped “big beautiful bill” and what it could mean for Californians.
See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

ERLY was founded by two friends and mothers—dermatologist Dr. Hallie McDonald and Jamie Chandlee—who saw firsthand the rising pressure their daughters faced from the overwhelming beauty industry. With a flood of trendy products and unrealistic standards, they knew something had to change. Hallie, in her dermatology practice, was increasingly treating young patients suffering from the side effects of harsh skincare fads. Together, they launched ERLY: a clean, effective, and gentle skincare line designed to nurture, not harm. ERLY's customizable system empowers users to mix targeted serums into their moisturizers, creating simple routines that meet individual skin needs. Rooted in early sun protection and barrier support, ERLY champions feeling good in your skin without the noise. Their mission is clear: strip away the pressure, keep it clean, and help everyone glow a little earlier. In this episode, Dr. Hallie McDonald also discusses:The damage trendy skincare products were causing and how she set out to do betterWhy less is more when it comes to skincareHow to build confidence and good habits earlyThe importance of peptides and how they're safe, yet effectiveThe ability to customize your skincare with their mixing toolWe hope you enjoy this episode and gain valuable insights into Dr. Hallie McDonald's journey and the growth of www.itserly.com. In this BRAND NEW solo episode, I'm pulling back the curtain on why I took a three-month break from releasing new podcast episodes and what's changing (and staying the same) as I move forward. I'm sharing the behind-the-scenes journey of how I've evolved into serving two specific groups of business owners: family photographers who want sustainable systems and marketing strategies, and small business owners who want smart, strategic launch support. You'll also hear the story behind my new membership, the Family Photographer's Marketing Society, and what you can expect from the podcast in the coming months, including a brand new Black Friday series starting next week.Want the full blog post with all the shownotes? In a world where payments have evolved from a back-office utility into a strategic business driver, how do you build a platform that truly puts control back into the hands of merchants? On this episode of Tech Talks Daily, I sat down with Dwaine Thomas, CIO of PXP, to explore how the company is transforming the payment landscape with its next generation platform, PXP Unity. PXP has been a force in fintech for over 30 years, processing over €30 billion in payments annually for some of the world's most recognised retail, hospitality, entertainment, and online gaming brands. But rather than rely on legacy systems, PXP has gone all in on greenfield development with PXP Unity, a fully API driven orchestration platform that enables merchants to plug into the services they need without the complexity of managing the entire payment stack. Dwaine walked me through how Unity empowers businesses with real-time data aggregation, smart routing, and complete transparency, all delivered through an intuitive interface. He also shared how the platform supports seamless scaling during high-demand periods, like Black Friday, and provides merchants with both control and automation to optimise payment performance across channels. What stood out was the clear shift in mindset. Sixty-four percent of merchants now view payments as a growth enabler, not just a necessity. With Unity, merchants gain the flexibility to adapt strategies on the fly, personalise the payment experience, and align payments with broader business goals. We also explored the growing role of AI in PXP's roadmap, from driving development efficiencies to enabling future use cases like AI agents within payment flows. As regulation evolves, Dwaine highlighted how initiatives like the FCA's AI sandbox point to a more proactive and structured approach to innovation in the payments space. So how can enterprises unlock new value from their payments infrastructure? How do you build for performance, resilience, and adaptability in equal measure? And what happens when payments become central to customer experience and brand loyalty? Tune in to hear how PXP is answering those questions with technology that is both powerful and practical.

In this inspiring episode, I sit down with Mark, a longtime in-person dog trainer from the UK, who turned his passion and experience into a scalable online program that's helped thousands of gundog owners worldwide. We dive into how Mark went from filming basic training videos for his staff to crafting a repeatable online sales machine. He shares how he grew his Instagram from 700 to nearly 50,000 followers, the power of short-form content, how he uses ManyChat and ActiveCampaign to automate his funnel, and why a single Black Friday promo changed everything. What if your most profitable campaign window isn't Black Friday or Cyber Monday… but after the holidays, when everyone else is quiet? While most marketers are winding down, savvy brands are doubling down—tapping into the “Q5” period between Christmas and early January, when ad prices drop, engagement spikes, and consumers are laser-focused on their New Year goals. Today we're digging into how AI is revolutionizing brand partnerships, why micro-influencers might be your secret Q5 weapon, and what smart marketers are doing to turn a slow season into a sales surge. To discuss this, I'd like to welcome Xavier de Baillenx, CEO of Ramdam, an AI-powered creator platform working with over 50,000 influencers globally. About Xavier de Baillenx Xavier de Baillenx is a serial entrepreneur and the Co-founder and CEO of Ramdam, an AI-powered platform that streamlines user-generated content (UGC) production for brands, optimizing every step of the creative process. Launched in 2023 by the same team known for their previous venture, Pretty Fun Therapy, acquired by Match Group (the company behind Tinder and Hinge), Ramdam empowers advertisers to connect with the right creators, delivering high-performing ads that elevate social media campaigns and eliminate the guesswork of the creative lottery. The platform quickly gained recognition, with brands like Allianz, Voodoo, and Colgate-Palmolive leveraging Ramdam to achieve up to an 80% improvement in performance compared to traditional UGC marketplaces. Ramdam's rapid success also led to securing $3.15 million in funding in October 2024 to accelerate its global expansion. Xavier's entrepreneurial journey began in 2013 when he co-founded Pretty Fun Therapy with his current team, a venture that was acquired by Match Group, the company behind Tinder and Hinge, in 2016. At Match Group, he led AI innovation, pioneering some of the industry's first consumer brand chatbots that engaged millions of users. With a background in digital development from his time at Universal Music, Xavier brings extensive experience in combining technology and creativity. Glam & Grow - Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle Brand Interviews
Alli Webb, the visionary stylist behind Drybar, has reimagined her own hair journey and now invites us all to do the same with Messy. After selling Drybar in 2020 and experiencing personal upheaval, she began growing out her natural waves and fell in love with embracing imperfections. Messy isn't just a product line, it's a manifesto that celebrates natural texture and a kinder, more sustainable approach to styling, rooted in what Webb calls the “Messy Revolution”. Powered by the Rough Dry Method, a heat-reduced styling technique designed to honor each person's natural hair without the damage of traditional blowouts, the line is designed to work with your hair, not against it. More than a beauty brand, Messy is personal for Alli, born from her own transformation after loss, stress, an identity shift, and grounded in authenticity and self-love.In this episode, Alli also discusses:How personal loss, growth, and healing led her to embrace imperfectionDrybar was all about polished, picture-perfect blowouts.
