It happens every year — sometimes even more frequently than that.A fight is brewing over funding the government before a deadline at the end of September. On Friday, Republicans in the House of Representatives, led by Speaker Mike Johnson, passed a stop-gap measure to fund the government through Nov. 21.This is all happening against the backdrop of President Donald Trump's summer of immigration raids, the deployment of the National Guard to Washington D.C., and the claw back of approved federal funding. In this installment of 1A‘s weekly politics series, we talk about how this month's government funding fight could turn into a shutdown, and what Democrats could demand in exchange for keeping the government open.Learn more about sponsor message choices: podcastchoices.com/adchoicesNPR Privacy Policy

Three of the biggest lobbies in Washington DC are sugar, dairy and meat. We should be forgiven for thinking that federal guidance to fry foods in beef tallow, drink more whole milk, and put sugar in Coca-Cola, are part of a corporate conspiracy of coercion to further undermine public health. On a positive note, more people are finally recognizing that America's health problems are a direct result of the excessive consumption of not only the above mentioned products, but of additives and chemicals, compounded by massive portion sizes, encouragement to eat additional meals, and sophisticated psychological techniques that are employed to mislead and gaslight the consumer into believing YOLO.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Accurately delivering more than 400,000 parts every night to 3,000-plus Ford automotive dealers is complex work. Charged with this daily task is the team led by Cantriel. They manage the delivery of parts from suppliers to packagers, distribution centers, and then finally to the dealers. Cantriel will be a keynote speaker at this year's EDGE conference in Washington DC that begins on October 5. Amid economic uncertainty and high prices, consumers are looking for a cost-conscious, seamless online shopping experience in 2025. That's according to data from Ryder System, Inc. The information comes from the company's 11th annual benchmark study on U.S. shopping behaviors, preferences and expectations, and it aims to help brands and retailers optimize their omnichannel sales and supply chain strategies. Ben Ames attended the Zebra conference this week in Nashville, where Zebra executives said the company is moving beyond that pure data collection function  to a broader umbrella function of analyzing the data their devices collect and finding better efficiencies across the entire supply chain enterprise. In their game plan, they will provide not just asset visibility, but also a connection to frontline workers, and ultimately, intelligent automation. Supply Chain Xchange  also offers a podcast series called Supply Chain in the Fast Lane.  It is co-produced with the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. In 1860, he ran for president as the Southern Democratic candidate, but the nation soon fractured with Lincoln's election and the Civil War. Breckinridge joined the Confederacy, rising to general and later serving as its last Secretary of War. After fleeing into exile, he eventually returned home to Kentucky, where he lived out his final years away from politics.

//The Wire//2300Z September 18, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: TRUMP STATES INTENT TO CLASSIFY ANTIFA AS TERRORIST ORGANIZATION. CHICAGO MAYOR LAMENTS IMPENDING NATIONAL GUARD DEPLOYMENT.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------HomeFront-Illinois: Statements by local mayor Brandon Johnson have continued to escalate as the National Guard deployment to Chicago draws near. Johnson stated that “Jails and incarceration and law enforcement is a sickness that has not led to safe communities”, and that he intends to "eradicate" this "sickness".Analyst Comment: It is often a hard sell to convince the public that putting violent criminals in prison is against the best interests of the taxpayer, but Johnson continues to make that argument nonetheless. Right now there is no real confirmation of how the National Guard QRF is to be deployed around the city, though city and state opposition has been high.California: Following yesterday's statements by the FCC Chairman, the ABC network has pulled the Jimmy Kimmel show from it's timeslot indefinitely.Analyst Comment: The network does not care about the crass statements that were made, as it encouraged this behavior for many years. However, getting their license yanked at a time where their ratings are already down would not have been a positive outcome for them.Washington D.C. - Yesterday evening President Trump stated his intent to designate ANTIFA as a terrorist organization on social media.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Beyond President Trump's short post on social media, no details have been provided on this designation yet, or how it's going to work out paperwork-wise. ANTIFA certainly has foreign roots, but in most cases is not explicitly foreign-controlled, so a designation by the State Department as being an FTO might not be an adequate fit. Nevertheless, if the intent is to create a label that ensures more federal charges can be pursued against militants (instead of the catch-and-release that ANTIFA is used to), there are plenty of options. The White House is probably also looking at RICO options regarding the bail-fund practices for ANTIFA members, which have industrialized the process of rotating through the court system.More directly, ANTIFA activities are certain to increase due to this designation, whatever it works out to be. Low-level demonstrations are certain to take place in the usual areas, and more kinetic "Direct Action" attacks are also quite likely to spring up, though larger efforts may take some time to organize. Either way, ANTIFA can certainly mobilize faster than government forces can respond in most cases, though the biggest barriers to ANTIFA operations right now are funding and a lack of coherent picture at higher levels of organization. For many years, ANTIFA has had no natural predators in their environment, and has been allowed to conduct all manner of activities without any sort of barriers at all. Designating this group as a terrorist organization also isn't really necessary; almost all ANTIFA publications directly state that they seek to use violence to further their political goals...which is the textbook definition of terrorism. Where a federal "terrorism" label (however it works out) can be applied, is in cases where local prosecutors won't prosecute terrorist attacks, or more importantly, in the dismantling of the financial networks which have openly been operating under shady LLCs and nonprofit groups, which have acted as shell corporations for ANTIFA funding sources. This still requires federal agencies and prosecutors to *actually prosecute* under the current laws that exist, which is still a bridge too far in most jurisdictions.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground//END REPORT//

Hidden fees, high commissions, and driver exploitation have left restaurants struggling to stay afloat. Recognizing this broken system, Troy Smith, CEO of Chop Chop, created a solution designed to empower restaurants and drivers alike while saving money for small businesses.Chop Chop isn't your typical food delivery app. “We're not an ordering app,” Troy explained in today's episode. “We believe restaurants should take their own orders and payments. What we do is connect drivers with restaurants.” This unique approach eliminates the hefty commissions that traditional apps charge—often up to 30% of an order—enabling restaurants to retain more of their revenue.Troy's innovative model is simple yet impactful. Restaurants pay a flat $199 monthly fee to access the app, allowing them to connect with vetted drivers who deliver orders. Unlike other platforms, Chop Chop ensures drivers are paid fairly—directly from the restaurant through Stripe, with funds held in escrow until delivery is confirmed. Customers receive real-time updates via SMS without needing to download the app, while restaurants maintain full control of the customer relationship. This streamlined system offers a lifeline to small businesses, especially mom-and-pop restaurants, which have been disproportionately affected by high delivery fees. “Deliveries have become a huge revenue stream for restaurants, especially since COVID,” Troy shared. “But the current system just isn't working. Restaurants are paying more money to send food to their own customers than ever before.”Chop Chop's mission extends beyond financial benefits. Many drivers and restaurants in the network are first-generation immigrants who often face exploitation in the gig economy. “FundingHope really resonated with us because they're looking out for the small guy,” Troy said. Chop Chop's crowdfunding campaign on FundingHope invites customers, drivers, and supporters to invest in the platform and help scale this game-changing solution. For just $199 a month—less than the price of a cup of coffee per day—restaurants can reclaim control, drivers can earn fairly, and customers can support their favorite local businesses without guilt. Chop Chop is more than a delivery app; it's a movement to restore fairness and transparency in food delivery.Visit ChopChop.mobi or FundingHope to learn more about this revolutionary app and its crowdfunding campaign.tl;dr:Troy Smith explains how Chop Chop empowers restaurants by eliminating high delivery fees and exploitation. The platform charges restaurants a flat $199 monthly fee, connecting them with vetted drivers for deliveries.Chop Chop ensures drivers are paid fairly via Stripe, fostering transparency and trust in the process.Inspired by personal experiences and challenges during COVID, Troy created a practical, scalable solution. The company invites investors to join its FundingHope campaign, supporting a fairer food delivery ecosystem. How to Develop Making a Plan As a SuperpowerTroy Smith's superpower, as he describes it, is the ability to “make a plan.” Growing up in Zimbabwe, he adopted the Afrikaans phrase maak a plan, meaning to solve problems through creativity and resourcefulness. “When something presents itself, a challenge, something is going wrong, you make a plan,” Troy explained in this episode. One powerful story that exemplifies this superpower occurred during the early days of COVID. Troy visited a small Japanese restaurant, where the owner, short on staff, asked him to deliver food for $10. This simple act planted the seed for Chop Chop. “She made the plan for me,” Troy said, “and I realized we could turn this into an app, connecting drivers with restaurants while ensuring fair pay.”To develop this superpower, Troy suggests starting with observation. “Instead of jumping in and trying to fix things, take a moment to see what's going on,” he shared. Identifying the root cause of a problem is key to crafting an effective solution. VEHICLE RAMMING ATTACK REPORTED AT FBI OFFICE IN PITTSBURGH.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------HomeFront-USA: Around the nation, various vandalism incidents continue at Charlie Kirk memorials. In North Carolina, a memorial was defaced at the UNC Wilmington campus, with the university making statements that passively endorsed the behavior and that no action will be taken. In Florida, the memorials painted at the "Graffiti Bridge" in Pensacola have also been heavily defaced over the past 24 hours, and another memorial was defaced in Arkansas as well.Pennsylvania: This afternoon multiple casualties were reported after police responded to a domestic disturbance call. 5x officers were wounded after a skirmish broke out at a rural property south of Spring Grove, with 3x officers remaining in critical condition as a result of the engagement. The suspect was recovered deceased at the scene.Overnight a vehicle ramming attack was reported at the FBI Field Office in Pittsburgh. Donald Henson was arrested after crashing his vehicle into the gates of the facility before fleeing the scene on foot. After a brief manhunt, the suspect was apprehended this morning.Analyst Comment: Though this was a targeted attack, this could be more of a case of mental illness rather than a more coherent attack. The suspect had painted statements on his vehicle, and had previously been reported for erratic behavior by family members.Arizona: A suspicious package was discovered outside the headquarters of Turning Point USA, which triggered a police response. EOD personnel were dispatched to examine the bag, which was determined to be a false-alarm.Alabama: This morning, one medevac helicopter was struck with effective Surface-to-Air Fire (SAFIRE) in the vicinity of County Road 51 in Autauga County. Local authorities arrested Peter Ellison for shooting a Life Flight helicopter in the process of responding to a medical emergency. Several rounds impacted the helicopter and one flight nurse was wounded during the attack.Washington D.C. - This morning FCC Chairman Brendan Carr made statements indicating an investigation into the ABC corporation's licensing stipulations, after comments were made during Jimmy Kimmel's show last night that falsely state that Tyler Robinson was a political conservative, and conducted the murder of Charlie Kirk as a result of conservative ideology.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: One of the follow-on effects of the Kirk assassination is the closer examination of platforms which have allowed open calls for violence over the years, with no repercussions. This is why the CEOs of Twitch, Discord, Reddit, and Steam have been requested to testify before Congress next month regarding the overwhelmingly one-sided policing of content on their platforms.Several influencers and content streamers have openly called for violence against political conservatives for many years now, breaking many of these own companies Terms and Conditions for content production. Nevertheless, the violent rhetoric has been allowed for so long, that it's shifted out of the realm of a free-speech issue, and into the territory of quite literal attack planning efforts. The White House (mostly AG Pam Bondi and President Trump himself) is doing an exceptionally poor job at describing this investigative effort, framing the issue without the nuance required to clearly state what is happening. However, as the violence from the political left has not decreased, but rather increased after Kirk's murder, this is a detail very important for risk assessment at a time where the threats are becoming increasingly more serious.Analyst: S2A1Research: https://publish.obsidian.md/s2underground//END REPORT

The US President Donald Trump, joined by the Tennessee Republican Governor Bill Lee, has established a task force to take on crime in the city of Memphis. The Democratic-led city is the latest to face a Trump administration crackdown on crime, following Washington DC. Trump has vowed to 'fix' the city after shelving plans for a similar operation in Chicago, reportedly due to opposition from local and state officials. Memphis' mayor, Paul Young, also has voiced opposition to the plan, arguing that crime already is falling without federal intervention. The president said on Monday, however, that Memphis is 'overrun' with carjackings, robberies and shootings, as well as other crimes. //The Wire//2300Z September 16, 2025////ROUTINE////BLUF: UKRAINIAN ATTACK REPORTED IN VLADIVOSTOK IN POSSIBLE SNEAK-ATTACK. MORE DETAILS RELEASED ON KIRK SHOOTING, MANY QUESTIONS STILL REMAIN.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-Far East: This morning explosions were reported in Vladivostok, as Ukrainian forces allegedly conducted a strike at far-flung military installations in Russia's eastern region. The exact location of the attack(s) has not yet been confirmed, however Ukrainian sources claim that the target was the 155th Marine Infantry Brigade.Analyst Comment: So far most of the sources on this attack are Ukrainian, so not entirely the most impartial resources for determining what happened. This could have been another behind-the-lines drone attack such as conducted a few months ago, since this attack vector is really one of the handful of methods for targeting this far away from the current conflict zone in Ukraine.-HomeFront-Utah: George Zinn, the man who created a distraction during the Kirk assassination, has been charged with obstruction of justice after admitting that he caused the distraction intentionally. Authorities continuing the investigation have stated that Zinn stated that he intended to draw attention away from the real shooter, to allow the assassin to escape.Washington D.C. - This morning FBI Director Kash Patel testified before Congress on a variety of issues.Analyst Comment: Most of the testimony today was only remarkable for the entertainment value, though Patel did continue to raise suspicions (as has become a nearly-daily occurrence) regarding Jeffrey Epstein, stating that Epstein did not traffic anyone to other individuals.-----END TEARLINE-----Analyst Comments: Almost a week after the assassination of Charlie Kirk, the number of inconsistencies and accomplices remains the same as before. If George Zinn did not have prior knowledge of the attack (as insinuated by investigators) the initial knee-jerk reaction to help out an unknown assassin in the seconds after a brutal murder is very odd at best, or psychopathic at worst. Zinn does have a long history of agitation and mental illness, so at this point it's hard to determine if he is just crazy or a legitimate and pre-planned accomplice to the murder. This afternoon, the alleged text messages between Tyler Robinson and his transgender accomplice were released, mostly pertaining to communications between the two apparently after the attack (though no timestamps on these messages were provided). These communications (among other things) indicate that the rifle was covertly stolen from the suspect's grandfather prior to the murder.Otherwise, the tone of the messages as released is somewhat unusual, and may be an indication of a pre-established alibi, knowing that these messages would be evidence at some point. Other terminology seems suspicious, leading to concerns that the messages might be fabricated or altered in some way, a speculative theory that is backed up by the inclusion of ellipses in the provided text which confirms that parts of the conversations have been omitted before release (though to what degree remains unclear). Right now there's no way to confirm the authenticity of these messages either way, and much more information and investigation is needed to determine exactly what took place. However even without digging in to the messages, the general gist of the case so far is that it's overwhelmingly unlikely that Tyler Robinson acted alone.More broadly, the expansion of investigations into other accomplices continues, as many statements from investigators have indicated the list of accomplices is wider than previously thought (by the FBI, at least). Authorities have stated that 20 individuals are currently being investigated for having prior knowledge of the attack.Analyst: S2A1Re

WAR DEPARTMENT STRIKES NARCO BOAT OFF VENEZUELA COAST.// -----BEGIN TEARLINE------International Events-United Kingdom: Over the weekend the "Unite the Kingdom" protests took place in London and throughout the nation, mostly without much issue. Some scuffles with police were noted, but British authorities provided a map of all of the unrest, which was almost entirely contained within the counter-protester areas.Caribbean: This afternoon the U.S. carried out another kinetic strike of a suspected narco-vessel off the coast of Venezuela. One vessel was struck by the U.S. Navy, resulting in 3x enemy casualties.-HomeFront-Utah: The investigation into the Kirk assassination continues, as the dragnet of potential accomplices widens. The FBI has stated that 7x people associated with the alleged killer have been identified throughout Utah, mostly online associates who had prior knowledge of the attack during the planning phase. These individuals are currently being investigated, and at least one individual was directly told by Robinson that he intended to kill Charlie Kirk. Authorities state that Tyler Robinson is not cooperating with the investigation, has reversed his previous confession, and begun to state his innocence for the attack.More kinetically, yesterday afternoon two assailants attempted to target a news vehicle with an incendiary device in Salt Lake City. Adeeb Nasir and Adil Nassir were arrested after using a homemade explosive device on a parked news vehicle in an undisclosed location somewhere in the city. The device failed to detonate properly, and instead started a fire under the vehicle.
