Dr. Carole Keim explores how to travel with your baby in this episode. What is best for going out and about or abroad with your baby? Dr. Keim starts right from the first trip of your baby's life - going home from the hospital - and covers everything from safely riding in the car, diaper bag supplies, and longer-term travel necessities. There is a lot out there so Dr. Keim carefully narrows down all the products to highlight the most important items. Dr. Keim shares what to look for in a car seat and what your baby should and should not wear under the strap to ensure a secure fit. She covers how to keep an eye on your baby in the back seat, when to use blankets, and what exactly should be packed in a diaper bag to ensure you're prepared for your baby's needs while out of the house. She talks about different baby carriers, what to pack in a travel suitcase versus what to leave home and just buy on location, and also touches on travel vaccines. This episode will give parents peace of mind about heading out on adventures with a new baby.In this episode:Hospital go-bag: Check out Episode 4|04For the car: Car seat and base - Doona: https://amzn.to/3CiOlZq | Evenflo (cheaper option, separate car seat and stroller) https://amzn.to/4hunybBStroller Mirror to see babySeat protector (when they are walking) Don't need: all-in-one car seat, screen for child to look at, car seat cover, blanket, NO puffy jackets in car seats Diaper bag: Diapers Cream - Desitin: https://amzn.to/4aqXBat | Aquaphor: https://amzn.to/4hKRekXWipesZiplock bags (gallon size)Baby clothesExtra shirt for momBurp clothChanging pad / muslin blanketPacifierBaby toys / teething toysHand sanitizerSnacksSunscreenBandaidsChange purse / moneyPenChapstickWater bottleTravel: When it's safe to travel Breastfed babies - after the first round of vaccinesFormula-fed babies - 6 mos after the primary series is complete and they have flu/covid vaccines in a car - any age, but remember car seats are not designed for safe sleep so you need to plan very frequent stopsClothes: 1.5 outfits per day, socks, sleep sack (kaiya baby)Feeding supplies: bottles, silicone bowl with suction backCarriers - ring sling, clip carrier, boba wrap, carrier shirt - For mom: https://amzn.to/3EjucCX | For dad: https://amzn.to/3Wv1pBYTravel vaccines, closed bottle of liquid medicine (tylenol/ibuprofen), vitamins (infant tri-vitamins, Emergen-C) Don't need: playpen (most hotels have them), high chair, too many consumables like diapers/formula/snacks, toiletries As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases.Dr. Keim has extensively researched the information presented in this episode. In this month's episode, Cláudio Carvalhaes asks us to consider how we understand ourselves and our faith in relation to the land. For over 50 years, we've commemorated Earth Day in April and yet investment in our planet feels like such an onerous task. What does it mean to recite “The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof” when it comes to honoring Earth Day? What is our task as followers of the way, who experience the fullness of God revealed in nature, when it comes to divesting of systems that wreak havoc on the earth? Cláudio Carvalhaes is a theologian, liturgist, performer, artist, and activist. Originally from Brazil, he is the Associate Professor of Worship at Union Theological Seminary - New York City. He is ordained in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and is the author of multiple books including, Liturgies from Below: Praying with People at the End of the World, Praying with Every Heart: Orienting Our Lives to the Wholeness of the World, and most recently, Inventory, Metamorphoses and Emergenc(i)es: How Do We Become Green People and Earth Communities.

‘Dry' January Is A Thing. So's ‘Damp' January . Cutting out or cutting back on alcohol during the month of January is growing in popularity as drinkers look to reset their bodies and minds for the New Year. The Washington Post reported the ‘benefits' last longer than a month as people started drinking less the rest of the year and showed striking improvements in their health. I think I'll shoot for ‘damp' and if I end up dry Yippee. Lol You? Heart and soul is what my show is all about and a little grit and some kick-ass attitude too. I'm trying to do my part to share the positive energy that I've been blessed with you to give you a little hope and inspiration that you CAN change things, do new things or finish your unfinished business this coming year and have just more fun. More fun for sure. But we al know we have more fun when we feel great. One of my fun friends in life and in business joins me on The Debbie Nigro show. Her title is Functional Nutritionist. I'm sure there's a big difference between a functional nutritionist and a non-functional nutritionist and since I don't want to work with anybody's who's a non-functional nutritionist I stick with Jacqui Justice. Jacqui specializes in is weight loss resistance, and many of the wellness challenges people are struggling with. She's got her own ‘mojo weight loss program' and she's created fabulous “mocktail” recipes for people who want to party and have some fun without alcohol. I thought she'd be a perfect guest for ‘dry January' and January in general where many of us re-assess and try and do better health wise. Jacqui texted me yesterday to say hello. We haven't seen each other in a long while because of Covid and every other ridiculous reason. Having both just come off being sick over the holidays, me with a blasto head cold and her with the flu, I wanted her opinion about all those immune boosters in the drugstore marketed to boost your immune system like Emergen-C and Airborne. Do they work? Jacquie's not a big fan of drugstore vitamins in general. She said, “I know too much about the quality of vitamins and nutrients and stuff like that and I really only use professional. Everybody should look at, when they buy a vitamin, where it says, other ingredients. Theres there's usually a bunch of junk right there. Artificial colors, all that stuff. But that being said, some people really do swear by that airborne, especially when they're flying. Giving yourself a little jolt of something to keep you healthy is probably better than not doing anything at all, but there's lots of other great stuff you can do too.” Give you a jolt? Does that mean that you only get the immune jolt for the moment? And if you don't take it the next day, you get no jolt?, I asked her. Well, yeah, that's right, she said, because a lot of those are B vitamins, which are water soluble. So they go in, then they go out. So yeah, it needs to be continuous thing. As for 2023 Everybody's trying to think about what they want to do better this year. Many are choosing to cut out alcohol. ‘Dry January' is a thing. So is ‘Damp January'. Jacqui says, When you stop drinking alcohol for a month, your liver says, thank you. Whenever you stop doing something that's not great for you, your body has all these great capabilities of getting that out of you. So its a good start. People who choose to have a ‘damp' January, who can drink a little less or just be more aware will benefit and likely start to act differently the rest of the year. Once you change something you start to feel better. Your cells in general are going to be healthier because, when you put anything in your body it affects every single cell in your body. When your cells are happy, you're feeling pretty happy too. It's not just your liver cells, but every organ is going to be working better. Your liver is the major detox organ of your body. It also stores sugar. It does a lot of things. And so if that's working more efficiently, your whole body is going to be working more efficiently. She said, “I have friends that I know that, you know, they drink quite a bit. And then when they go off, they cannot believe how much better they feel. And then they start exercising more, eating better. Everything gets better. They start doing everything better. That's true with cutting back on sugar too.. All of a sudden you're like, wow, I feel so much better. Now maybe I'll do this. So obvious, right? “ said, Jacqui. The Washington Post did a story on Dry January which pointed out that people who stop drinking or drink less are sleeping better. Sleep is a huge problem here in the US. for everybody in this country. Jacqui spends a spend a lot of time helping people figure out how to get to sleep too. Her sleepy time tips include ‘sleep hygiene' which is up top of her list. She says, “just not being on your computer and dimming the lights a couple of hours before you're going to be going to bed, sets the tone that, you know, you're going to be going to sleep soon. “ One of her other big nutrition-related sleepy time tips is not having sugar at night. That wrecks sleep like nothing else she said. And, that includes wine. Jacqui says, “You know, I'm sure everyone listening to this can agree that when they have a night where they're drinking, you know, a couple of glasses of wine, they wake up. In the minute, more than any other alcohol, it's wine because of the sugar content. They wake up in, like, two o'clock in the morning, they're wide awake. That's because your blood sugar crashes and then you wake up. It just happens. And so if you, you know, take a little vacation from drinking the one of the first things you're going to see is that you sleep better. And then you feel better, right? Just sleeping better. Absolutely. “ Another REALLY BIG sleepy time tip is don't go to bed dehydrated. Jacqui says, if you go to bed and you're dehydrated, and you haven't had enough water it will cause you to wake up at night. It's not so much drinking water before you go to bed. It's about drinking water throughout the day. That's very, very important she says.. Drinking water, hydrating properly just that one goal will make a huge difference in your health. We both agree people are predictable. January 1st arrives and everyones' promising to get super healthy THIS year! They list 20 things they're going to do to make it happen. Jacqui says, “You don't have to do these 20 things. So start with one thing, one thing, hydration, and go from there.” “It's like saying, I have to go to the gym every day for two hours. You know that's going to last two days. And then you're going to start making excuses why you can't go to the gym. But if you say, you know what, I'm going to pop into the gym. And I'm going to do something for 10, 20 minutes. You'll pop into that gym, and you'll probably stay longer than 20 minutes. It's about not biting off more than you can chew. Everybody is just coming off having too many carbs and too much sugar. “ So how do you get off carbs? How do you, how do you wean off instead of just slamming yourself off? Jacqui believes in focusing on what you ‘can' have rather than what you ‘can't'. If you think about, oh my gosh, I can't have any more carbs, which is the main thing everybody craves. It's hard. It's a losing battle. Focus more she says, on thinking about ‘what' you ‘will' have. Make it look and taste delicious. “Say, I'm going to start off the day with this delicious breakfast, this beautiful omelette with some avocado. And, you know, maybe a little salad or whatever or like a green drink, which is delicious by the way. I know it doesn't sound like it is. You're going to get really satisfied and feel really good and be energized. And then you kind of go from there. For lunch think about making a beautiful salad with grilled chicken in it and some pomegranate seeds and make it really nice. Don't just like have some crappy little unattractive little salad. That doesn't really do it for most. Really just make it nice. And start doing that. And don't think about, I can't have carbs. Just think about, wow, I could have all of this delicious, you know, protein and healthy fats and beautiful fruits and vegetables and fiber.” Obviously it's a little frustrating to have to do the do-over every year for those of us and I include myself, who could have done better. I was so proud of myself last year. I lost like 27 pounds. I must have gained back three quarters of it now. Here we go again. What I did learn when I was losing weight and feeling great (that I must have chosen to recently ignore) was not having a lot of oil or butter and all those things that make everything taste so good. So I asked Jacqui if there was some kind of trick that she uses for cooking or and flavoring. She likes to use like avocado oil to cook with, because you can cook at high temperatures with it. Olive oil is great but not not for cooking at a high temperature. “Let's say you're making an omelette or eggs" she said, "Cook with grape seed oil or avocado oil, coconut oil if you like that. And then at the end, just drizzle on a tiny little bit of delicious olive oil or a little bit of ghee.” I've introduced many people with nutrition concerns to Jacqui Justice and all thave thanked me because she's pretty spectacular. When talking about keeping those new years resolutions, the most important thing is you have to be is...a Believer! If you don't truly believe you can reach whatever goal it is that you have, she says, you won't fully commit to it and any obstacle in your way will throw you off course. OK staying on course for now! Enjoy the fun conversation I had live with Jacqui Justice on The Debbie Nigro Show. Check in with her if you're interested in some advice from a realistic nutritionist.
This week, directorates from across Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield took part in the Stewart Guardian Installation Full Scale Exercise. This annual exercise tests the emergency response capabilities of our directorates in an effort to keep our Soldiers, families, and civilians safe in the event of a real world emergency. This year, a team from Installation Management Command Headquarters and various garrisons across the Army, visited the installation to evaluate our exercise and help identify areas to sustain and improve to help our team remain at the tip of the spier for safety and emergency response. On this week's Marne Report podcast, Molly is joined by Dr. Kelly Burke, IMCOM full scale exercise chair, and Beau Bradley from our installation's Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security, to discuss this year's exercise and all that goes in to planning this type of training event. We do have those pockets of time that could be dedicated to ourselves. I think it's important to ask ourselves what we do in those moments."12:15 Yasmine: "It can get really hard when you are literally holding everyone else and feel like no one's holding you. The invitation is to ask yourself what it would feel like to allow people to figure out how to deal with their own issues, to maybe not have access to calling you after a certain time, to give yourself the attention and energy that you're pouring into everyone else."23:02 Yasmine: "Whatever it is that you identify as, it's so important to question it because sometimes we're limiting ourselves by these ideas of what we think we have to be. And it may not actually be fulfilling what we want to be in alignment with."33:27 Yasmine: "The reason that we want to have space for the people, places, and things that we love is so that when we connect to people, we experience the joy of vulnerability. We experience the joy of connection. We experience the joy of being in a relationship with people." 33:42 Yasmine: "If I struggle with my worthiness, then I'm also going to struggle with believing that the people I'm in a relationship, truly want to be here."Please leave a five-star review for the Get Loved Up Podcast. With more and more research emerging around the long-term risks associated with traditional over-the-counter brands, says Nina Mullen, “we're at a specific moment where mainstream consumers are more aware of the risks and just want to find holistic solutions.” She adds that not only naturopathic doctors, but even conventional medical professionals are starting to take notice of these disconcerting trends associated with Big Pharma. Nina is the Co-Founder of Hilma. The brand was launched in 2019 with three products, each of which covers its own unique category: 1) An immune support blend; 2) An upset stomach relief for occasional heartburn, antacid, and digestion; and 3) A head tension relief. Natural, clean label products have taken center-stage in virtually every consumer category, from consumables, beauty, household cleaners, and personal care. However, the medicine cabinet continues to be stuck in the past with most being stocked with the usual OTC legacy brands like Airborne, Emergen-C, or Tums. Hilma aims to disrupt this area by introducing preventative, long-term, and all-natural herbal options for everyday health needs to the mainstream consumer. Lesbians! You know em, you love em, you are em. But what if we told you that lesbians were actually an invention of the Central Intelligence Agency? What if you were to learn that the very existence of lesbians is an elaborate scam dating back hundreds of years to distract women and keep the patriarchy in power? Sound confusing? You don't even know. This week the truly delightful writer and comedian Anna Salinas stopped by to explain the connections between queerness, Emergen-C, the ancient Greeks, J Edgar Hoover, and rugby teams. It's an all-timer episode that may shock you, but will definitely make you think hard about women and their soft soft lips.

Krisha is trying to cure a headache by blowing a hair dryer toward her nose. Frank had read an article suggesting it as a remedy. Krisha's headache may have been caused by the lack of running water at her house. She washed her hair with cold water from the Brita dispenser in her refrigerator. Krisha went to pick up dinner at a favorite restaurant. She had to wait in the bar for her food to be ready. Two men sat on either side of her, one of whom was drunk. The drunk man touched Krisha, spilled his drink, and tried to get Krisha to give him her number. The sober man noticed the scenario and made sure Krisha got to her car safely. Krisha alluded to Patrick Swayze, which reminds Frank of the time Swayze came to WAVA for an interview to promote “She's Like the Wind.” Swayze spent most of his time at the station with his head down on a desk. Krisha interviewed Garth Brooks on a day he was sick. She gave him an Emergen-C and during the entire interview Trisha Yearwood was loudly shaking the water bottle to mix in the Emergen-C powder. Krisha & Frank will send a prize pack to their 500th subscriber, assuming the person doesn't hide their subscriptions. For reasons made clear in this week’s episode, Michelle is ‘bored out of her mind’ these days, but that doesn’t stop her from joining Suzanne for yet another entertaining conversation. COVID has, indeed, been a Grinch for our hosts over the past little while, and today they fill you in on all the details. They begin by discussing the COVID diagnoses that both Suzanne and Robb received in December, what their quarantine experiences were like, and Michelle shares details of her own COVID test. Some of their stories regarding those times when they had to be nursemaids to members of their families follow, as well as a discussion about Suzanne’s hypochondria as a child, and what they both are like as patients. They finish up their conversation by reviewing their worst illnesses, including the dreaded strep throat. While the subject matter may be somewhat heavier than usual this week, Michelle and Suzanne’s trademark good humor and vibrant nature render this episode one that will still offer you some things to smile about and, of course, a whole lot of things you’ll find completely relatable. Episode Highlights: · Robb and Suzanne’s COVID diagnoses · Their quarantine experience · Michelle’s COVID test · Michelle and Suzanne’s stories of being nursemaids · Katy’s compassionate nature · Suzanne’s childhood hypochondria · What Michelle and Suzanne are like as patients · Their worst illnesses · Strep throat Quotes: “It was absolutely terrifying!” “You got your Christmas miracle.” “I’m thinking it was a false positive.” “The COVID Grinch showed up at the Milne house.” “A positive test result on Christmas Eve.” “It was horrible.” “I felt like I had just conquered Mt. Everest or something.” “Honey, you have a lot of issues, but dying tonight is not one of them. Go to sleep.” “When Jeff gets sick, I get pissed.” “It’s a sore subject.” “I am so pathetic…all I could think of was how inconvenient it was for me.” “I never got mad at them for being sick.” “In reality, I was a full blown hypochondriac.” “I’m a complainer.” “Maybe I’ll pour some ‘Emergen-C’ in that glass of champagne!” Links: Homepage: Orange Juice Optional Goodnight Sweet Bear: Goodnight Sweet Bear Why Hello! In this episode, the guys talk about the multi-billion dollar supplement industry and the influence of a Nobel prize winner on spreading one of the largest pseudo-science campaigns in marketing history. Nico talks about his pre-flight travel routine, and Chad talks about the persistence of memes and the value of transparency. A common myth is that vitamin C will prevent you from getting sick - a wives' tale that can be beneficial for dietary supplement companies. What “an apple a day keeps the doctor away” and assertions that chicken noodle soup can cure a cold have in common is that they're old. What isn't old is the idea that vitamin C will keep you from getting sick. In fact, the idea came about as recently as the 1960's. Some benefits of vitamin C, as claimed by dietary supplement companies like Emergen-C, include boosting your immune system, increasing energy, and providing extra protection against infections. Not only will vitamin C completely wipe the common cold from the face of the earth but it can also be used to cure snakebites, AIDS, and detached retinas. To you that may sound like pseudoscience...but to Linus Pauling, it's not only fact but the product of his own extensive scientific research. Linus Pauling, an American chemist, biochemist, chemical engineer, peace activist, author, and educator, is credited with popularizing vitamin C as a health supplement. Pauling is one of four individuals to have won more than one Nobel Prize. Aside from his Nobel Prizes, Pauling is remembered as one of the founders of the fields of quantum chemistry and molecular biology. Today, Pauling is remembered most for the work he did in his later years including the promotion of nuclear disarmament, as well as orthomolecular medicine, megavitamin therapy, and dietary supplements. Given Pauling's history and his 1200 published works spanning 850 topics, the diverse array of his later studies isn't that odd. What is odd is that the esteemed, record breaking, two-time Nobel Prize winner isn't most commonly remembered for his awarded accomplishments. He's remembered for being an acolyte of vitamin C. Pauling believed - and publicly insisted - that vitamin C could be a cure-all for numerous ailments and because of his work, he's not one of the only ones who seem to think so. According to a Gallup poll from 2013, half of Americans regularly take vitamins or other mineral supplements - despite the fact that new medical studies assert that vitamins do not provide health benefits. In 2012, Euromonitor International reported the vitamin and supplement industry topped $23 billion in consumer spending. In 1978, Alacer Corp., based out of Southern California, released their newest and fizziest sensation; Emergen-C. Simply Vitamin C plus minerals with B Vitamins, the dietary supplement drink mix quickly gained popularity among people seeking a new and refreshing way to support a healthier immune system. More than popularity, Emergen-C vitamin drink mix rapidly established an impressive and dedicated following. As vitamin supplements gained more and more traction over the years more and more dietary supplement companies began to emerge. One such company, Airborne, was founded in the early 1990s by school teacher Victoria Knight-McDowell. She began brewing herbal and vitamin cocktails in the early 1990s and selling them in tablet form to local drug stores until Trader Joe's bought 300 cases in 1997. Something companies like Emergen-c and Airborne have in common, aside from promoting vitamin supplements and their uncanny, continued success, is their marketing. The effectiveness of having a tasty variety of flavors does wonders for marketing and also, according to William Curry, internist and professor of internal medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, makes it all too easy to overdose on the stuff. It might be hard to imagine “overdosing” on vitamins and what that could entail. After all, according to Healthline,

But when it comes to boosting one's immune system through food, some are still stalling out after a few orange slices or the usual vitamin C (or Emergen-C) routine. According to registered dietitians, there are plenty of other edible options we can stock up on to increase our immunity.

All across Spain, people went to their windows to give healthcare workers a huge round of applause. A video of doctors and nurses in Wuhan smiling and removing their masks has been making the rounds on social media. China closed the last of its emergency hospitals last week after spread of the virus there finally leveled off. For the first time, South Korea had more recoveries in one day than new cases. After Disneyland shut down, they donated all their extra food to a food bank in Orange County, California. Last week, we heard about a distillery in Oregon that was making hand sanitizer and giving it out for free. Now more distilleries around the country are doing it. Internet providers are offering unlimited, free public Wi-Fi during the crisis. And the big phone companies are stepping up too. Verizon is pausing late fees. And T-Mobile is giving customers unlimited data on their smartphones. A woman in North Carolina named Becky Hoeffler has been doing grocery store runs for elderly people to reduce their exposure. A convenience store in Scotland has been handing out free facemasks and hand sanitizer to people over 65. And a 17-year-old kid near Seattle named Avi Schiffmann started a website in late December that tracks coronavirus cases around the world in real time. Apparently more than a few couples spent way too long being quarantined together. Because of the toilet paper "shortage," sales of BIDETS are through the roof. The online porn industry has seen a surge in traffic because everyone's staying home. So cam girls are making a ton of money because of the outbreak. A police department in Ohio posted a jokey message on Facebook last week, asking that "all criminal activities stop until further notice." They added that they'll let criminals know when it's okay to start committing crimes again. Police in Oregon had to ask people to stop calling 911 when they run out of toilet paper, because it doesn't qualify as life-or-death. Guys who scheduled their vasectomies around March Madness this year are complaining, because there's nothing to watch. Even the terrorist group ISIS is telling its fighters to avoid Europe right now, so they don't get sick. Someone came up with an immune-boosting cocktail called the "quarantini." It's made with powdered vitamin C drink mix. The brand Emergen-C responded, and said they DON'T recommend mixing their product with alcohol. A pizza place in Oshkosh, Wisconsin added rolls of toilet paper to its menu, so customers can add it on when they order food. This is good to know if you've thought about getting in on the keto diet craze. A new study found it can cause mild flu-like symptoms similar to COVID-19. Things like headaches, fatigue, and nausea. AKI is increasing in hospitalized patients, and since it’s associated with both short- and long-term adverse outcomes, early recognition of patients who are at an increased risk for developing AKI is essential if we are to effectively intervene and provide optimal outcomes. Fortunately, recent data suggests that certain biomarkers can help us in clinical decision making with regard to AKI—which is the focus of this discussion.

My 14 year old son came don with Influenza last Thursday night. He has done really well and this is why we think so. 1. We don't lower a fever. The body spikes a fever in response to pathogens invading a system. The fever is the body's way of fighting the virus, heating up the temperature of the body to kill these cells. Unless my child is very uncomfortable or a fever is above 102 degrees we let the body do it's thing. cold compresses behind the neck or on the forehead can provide some relief. When we need to treat fever we always use Ibuprofen. Do a little research about the evils of Tylenol - we avoid at all costs. 2. We started Oscillococcinum on Friday morning. It's a homeopathic remedy to support the body through influenza. 1 dose taken under the tongue 3 times a day. Here is a research article about it: http://old.iss.it/publ/anna/2012/1/481105.pdf You can buy it on Amazon here: http://bit.ly/GuudOscillo NOTE: this is the family pack. Better to have more on hand in case... 3. We support the immune system with Vitamin D3+K2 and lots of vitamin C (I like Emergen C or ascorbic acid capsules) 4. Lots and lots of fluids, less food. Let the body do it's thing. Most people with Flu won't be hungry and that is ok. MOST OF ALL, prevention is number 1. Handwashing, good nutrition, adequate vitamin D levels should be your goals. Be well, stay well!
Twelve years since launching Eboost, a brand of natural energy powders and ready-to-drink beverages, founder and CEO Josh Taekman reflected on his entrepreneurial journey with a measure of regret. In an interview included in this episode, he admitted that he’s made some big mistakes -- including a few near-fatal ones for the brand. He acknowledged that Eboost has been chronically underfunded and that he missed the boat on key hires during critical moments in its development. That’s not to say that Eboost hasn’t seen its share of victories, including earning national distribution at 7-Eleven for its energy shots, announcing a highly publicized partnership with fitness celebrity Jillian Michaels and landing a spot on Oprah Winfrey’s coveted “List of Favorite Things.” Throughout the years, Taekman said that he’s taken the highs and lows of his business in stride. He knew Eboost wasn’t going to be an overnight success, and explained that persistence, tenacity and an unrelenting belief in the brand’s potential have been his most crucial assets. “When someone says ‘you can’t do it’ or ‘I dare you to do it,’ to me it’s ‘of course I can, and I will through perseverance and grit,’” he said. “The thing that kept me going is that I truly loved the product,” he said. “In my heart of hearts, I knew we had a great product and a great brand.” As part of our conversation, Taekman chronicled his career path from music marketing, including a partnership with hip-hop and fashion mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, to beverage entrepreneurship with energy platform brand Eboost, and also discussed why he initially focused on non-traditional retail and how he landed a joint venture with AriZona Beverage Co. to produce and distribute the product. Show notes: 1:26: Josh Taekman, Founder/CEO, Eboost -- In his interview with Taste Radio editor Ray Latif, Taekman spoke about why he moved to New York City after college, how he landed a meeting with Bad Boy founder Sean Combs (aka P. Diddy) and eventually founded the company’s marketing division. He also discussed why a proposed joint venture between Combs and Nantucket Nectars was scrapped, the impetus for launching Eboost and the company’s initial focus on distribution at hotels and gyms. Later, he explained why a deal with 7-Eleven didn’t work out as planned, benefitting from the perception that Eboost was a bigger brand that it actually was, why he regrets not focusing on direct-to-consumer sales earlier on and the reason that the company rebranded. Taekman also explained how he convinced AriZona Beverages co-founder/CEO Don Vultaggio to partner with Eboost and why he wishes that his investors would have asked him to step down as CEO. Brands in this episode: Eboost, Nantucket Nectars, Mistic, Snapple, AriZona, Sprite, Pepsi, Red Bull, Monster Energy, Redline, Berocca, Emergen-C, Muscle Milk, Vitaminwater, Zipfizz, VOSS, Nuun, Coca-Cola, Snickers, Toblerone, Bai, 5-hour Energy, Rockstar Energy, Stacker2, SK Energy, RxBar, Bang Energy

We're back! This week, Matt is in New York for a concert and Julia is at home drinking Emergen-C mixed with cherry gin. Enjoy this time-traveling episode that was recorded after some microphone troubleshooting last week (we are so sorry for that shitty audio). Will this rendition of Julia in the throws of a ridiculous break-up be petty enough for our biggest fan, McKenna? Only time will tell!
I know this may sound contradictory but I don't travel well or better put I don't fly well. I'm normally in good health and may catch a cold about once a year. But flying physically takes a huge toll and my body responds poorly. My stomach and sinuses experience discomfort. I tend to get sick every time I fly. So now I put myself on a little Vitamin C regimen. I've used Airbone, EmergenC and the Whole Foods 365 Vitamin C brand. I find that if I take one the day before, the day of and the day after I fly that it's helped me. I'm not going to argue about the efficacy of these supplements. And perhaps, it's completely anecdotal but I no longer get sick every time I fly. I also adopt the Vitamin C regimen if I'm moving around and not able to settle into a place for at least a few days. David Carradine battles grizzled old men on the Western Frontier using his Shaolin Monk skills... or sometimes just by spread-eagle leaping off things, or sometimes just by getting tied up with a rope and left near really sharp, jagged rocks. F. Nick Flare, Chinese Leonard Nimoy, 1870s Emergen-C, straight razor shave fighting, and Mongolian tombs are also discussed.
En este episodio analizamos la declaración de emergencia nacional declarada por Trump, explicamos la Enmienda 25 y si las acciones del ex Director del FBI Andrew McCabe constituyeron un intento de golpe de estado.

Today I sit down with my big brother who also happens to be a world renowned artist. We cover more then just his art career. We start at the beginning and go through Jay's story of overcoming insecurity, learning to turn his talent into a business, overcoming failures and more. We discuss his time in high school, college, Theta Xi fraternity, his wife and children and of course we go into how his art career took off to the point it is at today. Introducing our next Life's Black Belt, Jay Alders. The ladies had good night’s sleep and it makes all the difference. They are both in a good place! Julia’s not happy with the fact that she’s been coming home from work too late to see her daughter before bedtime, but hopefully that won’t last. Sarah’s college son has now started classes and has touched base via Facetime. She had a nightmare that her son had been stolen from her by aliens - literally snatched from her arms - so that’s a clue to her state of mind over her son leaving home… Julia’s looking at the college packing lists for fun, even though her daughter has just started Kindergarten. Julia recounts a memory of moving in to her dorm at LMU - and the Italy’s Little Kitchen, where Julia worked as a hostess for 2 years in college. They had a smoking section back then and she got a 30% discount on pizza - score! Sarah talks about what it cost when she went to college $40K for 4 years at a private school, which now costs about $70K per year now! UGH Julia’s hoping that she’s done with menopause by the time her kid is ready for college. The ladies wonder when how long their menopauses will last? Sarah’s back on her period - and it was a big shock - and she’s annoyed that she’s had to stock up on tampons and pads! Expensive and they are taxed - how is that fair???? Bible Study: Chapter 6 Foods and Supplements to Support the Change Julia has started taking the Fish Oil for her Omega 3s and got her husband to read the chapter on heart health and statins specifically and it has made him want to talk more with his doctor. Julia also started taking Calcium/Magnesium/Vitamin D supplements and EmergenC to get vitamin C and B12s, but no Coenzyme Q10 yet. Sarah found hers at Costco. Better price! Sarah feels it would be helpful to find an herbalist who could help her navigate all the supplements that Dr. Northrup recommends and find out what would be best for her body. Makes Julia want to go back to her Gyno - and get some questions answered. She feels the chapter empowered her to do that. The chapter being about food, Julia focused on soy snacks. Edamame and soy milk have appealed to Sarah, Julia has wanted to try roasted soy nuts. Sarah wondered about an herb Dr. Northrup mentioned called Joyful Change. The name alone is good! And may be helpful for hot flashes, so it deserves some exploration. Sarah needs to schedule her cardiologist follow-up… Flax seed - Dr. Northrup talks about buying Golden Flax grown in a special region in the Northern Dakotas to give it more Omega 3s - but we say, um that makes it harder to achieve the goal of at least getting some damn flax in our diets at all - so hey, what if we just get the kind we can buy at our local grocery store and call it a day? Julia noticed that Dr. Northrup talked about Yin and Yang, and traditional Chinese medicine, and imbalance, and in the book she talks about how “excess heat” which is too much Yang, leads to hot flashes and dryness of the skin, eyes, hair and vagina - and Julia said her eyes have been very, very dry ever since having a baby. She uses eye drops often, but she feels it has been getting worse. Other things that can add to excess yang include hot beverages, like coffee (one of our favorite things) and spicy foods, which we found fascinating. We bemoaned the often-repeated prohibitions against drinking alcohol, eating fried foods, etc. found in the book. Sarah has slowed down on wine, but has found giving up on coffee has been much harder. Julia suggests adding decaf, but Sarah thinks this is a bad idea, especially for her husband… Sarah wonders whether there is an equivalent physical change at midlife for men? Sarah tells the story of a nice older lady in the neighborhood who likes to talk and needed someone to listen to her. She talked about online dating for the elderly - and explained how all the men want is sex. According to this nice old lady, if the men say they want to be very romantic, that means they want a lot of sex. Again, according to the nice old lady, all the men say they can do “everything”, because they have Viagra, but in reality they can’t do much. One of her neighbors - a nice old man - told this nice old lady that he wanted to cuddle. When she asked - what do you mean by “cuddle?” He said - “I want to touch your body,” but she declined. So he offered another lady down the street $45 to cuddle with him instead. Julia’s glad to hear that sex is still out there for the future. And they realize that there will always be a reason to stay fit. Plus we crack ourselves up thinking about a Peyton Place happening in a retirement home! So apparently after menopause, there will be lots of sex in our future. And we continue to laugh as we imagine a sci-fi story with characters named “Coenzyme Q 10”, “Paraguard T380A” and a villain named “Omega Three”. How Hot Was Your Flash? Sarah had none this week and slept well except for the nightmare about her son being stolen by aliens. Julia had two - she thinks - but because they’re so rare, she’s not 100% sure. Hers are very low-key; no sweat involved. We feel the book gives great advice about making these changes - just start with one thing at a time. Julia, by the way, can do a plank for 1 minute!

We discuss content creation and brand development in Trump’s America. La. La. Land. Go. See. It. Now. A new season of Gilmore Girls hit Netflix, but neither of us has ever seen the original show. That led us to think about what other massively popular pop culture phenomenon are we missing out on? Rogue One: A Star Wars Tale comes out this week, and we’re going to opening night. If only the process of buying tickets weren’t so tricking difficult. Those Japanese sure do love dead fish.
