When I read on GM Eugene Perelshteyn's blog that his amateur friend had signed up to compete against players like Hikaru Nakamura and Hans Niemann in the Naroditsky Memorial, I knew I had to hear this story. That friend is NM Mike Mahoney. Mike is a pharmacist by day and a devoted online blitz player by night. For Mike, chess is usually a way to unwind, not something he takes too seriously. But he couldn't pass up the chance to test himself in one of the strongest blitz tournaments the U.S. has ever seen.  Eugene will be mentoring Mike and traveling with him to Charlotte, and they both joined me to discuss: Why Mike decided to jump into such a stacked field How Eugene is preparing him for the challenge How Mike defines “success” in a tournament like this We also talk about Mike's unconventional path to becoming a National Master, starting relatively late, as well as some great stories from the Boston blitz scene. I'm excited to follow how this unfolds, and Eugene and Mike will be back after the tournament for a trip report. In the meantime, you can follow Mike's journey on Eugene's blog.  Be sure to check out the Perpetual Chess YouTube channel where Eugene goes over one of Mike's model games against the Caro-Kann. Founded in Milan in 1913 by the Italian brothers Mario and Martino Prada, the original business focused on producing and selling luxury leather goods to an aristocratic and royal elite.   With the advent of ready-to-wear and the expansion of fashion retail in the 1970s, Prada entered the global market under the direction of the founder's granddaughter, Miuccia Prada. The now iconic black nylon backpack featuring the silver Prada logo became one of the most sought-after fashion accessories as the brand expanded into women's and men's wear lines.    Fashion historian Natalie Nudell joins the Gilded Gentleman table to discuss the evolution of the brand and how the influences of Fashion Week, retail boutique expansion and the launch of sub-brand Miu Miu all contributed to a modern fashion brand projecting style, power, and authority.  Natalie Nudell is the author of "In American Fashion: Ruth Finley's Fashion Calendar." Today's podcast guest is Håkan Andersson. Håkan is a veteran Swedish sprint coach with over 40 years of experience developing elite sprinters, jumpers, and team-sport athletes. Based in Sundsvall, Sweden, he has coached national record holders and Olympic finalists, and has played a key role in the evolution of Scandinavian sprint training. For today's podcast I join Håkan to explore the evolution of speed training, from early interval-based systems to modern high-velocity methods. We discuss the role of resisted and assisted sprinting, mechanized training tools, and how different athlete “types” respond to various workloads. Håkan shares insights on acceleration mechanics, overspeed training, and balancing intensity with long-term development. The conversation blends history, science, and practical coaching wisdom for building faster, more resilient athletes. Today's episode is brought to you by Hammer Strength. And if you focus too much on that [limitations of the environment], you're never going to succeed anyway." "Remote coaching doesn't really work, you know. ...It's what you do every day that counts." "I think your environment dictates how you train and your training program and so forth." "Resisted sprinting, it slows things down; it makes it a bit easier to work with technical details." "Resistive sprint, it can constrain the body into positions and timings that favors horizontal force acceleration. That is, of course, crucial for acceleration." "I really, really never liked heavy sleds, you know, because I found that it disturbed the rhythm of the athletes." "I find that below 10% decrement doesn't really give you enough stimuli." "The goal is always to keep the mechanics intact, you know, not to overload this so much." "Don't pull people to supersonic speed, but sometimes get exposed to almost competition speed. But never to go super maximum." About Håkan Andersson Håkan Andersson is a veteran Swedish sprint coach with over 40 years of experience developing elite sprinters, jumpers, and team-sport athletes. Can AI really remove emotion from investing, or does human judgment still matter most when money is on the line? In today's episode, I'm joined by Jack Fu, Founder and CEO of Draco Evolution, a company using AI, quantitative models, and decades of market experience to help investors make smarter and more disciplined decisions. Jack's journey began during the 2008 financial crisis while working as a financial advisor at Union Bank of California, where watching investors lose life-changing amounts of money completely reshaped how he thought about risk, discipline, and long-term wealth creation. That experience led him to focus on one simple principle: avoiding big losses matters just as much as chasing returns. From managing assets for family offices and institutional clients to leading major investment operations across the Asia-Pacific region, Jack built his career around protecting capital first and helping investors stay in the market long enough to benefit from long-term growth. We explore how Draco Evolution is bringing institutional-level investment tools to everyday investors through AI-powered ETFs and a more dynamic approach to portfolio management. Jack explains how ETFs actually work, why they have become such a popular choice for investors, and the important difference between investing in AI companies and using AI itself to manage investment decisions. We also discuss the future of robo-advisors and why the next generation will move far beyond static questionnaires and occasional portfolio rebalancing. Jack shares why he believes the future lies in systems that adapt continuously to market conditions and investor behavior, creating something far more personal and responsive. From algorithmic trading and AlphaGo to today's world of agentic AI, Jack offers a practical perspective on how technology is changing finance without replacing human oversight. He also shares why investors should treat AI as an enhancement tool rather than blindly trusting every recommendation. If you've ever wondered how AI is changing investing, what makes AI-driven ETFs different, or how to stay disciplined in unpredictable markets, this conversation offers plenty of insight. How much would you trust AI to help manage your financial future, and where would you still want a human in the loop?

While the podcast team is taking a Radical Sabbatical, Kim is interviewing authors of the books that have had a big impact on her in the past two years. In this episode she's speaking with Tom Rath about his new book What's The Point. Graduation speeches are often filled with lofty advice for how to approach the upcoming transition from school to the real world–a topic that feels especially fraught at this moment of AI Anxiety.  Speakers often urge newly minted graduates to “follow your passion.” But is that the best way to decide what type of work to focus on as a career?  Perhaps a better approach is to figure out what the world needs and how you can best contribute. Tom Rath stresses the importance of surveying the landscape and identifying the big problems the world is facing. Then, identify your skills and develop them so that you can help address the issues that concern you.  One fascinating point Tom makes is that 90% of people in the workforce fall into roughly 50 different occupations. However, most of us are only exposed to a handful of these 50, often only what their parents or parents' friends do for a living. Wouldn't it be better to give young adults exposure to a much wider range of careers before they pursue career goals?  In fact, we could all benefit from this exposure. It's never too late to change careers. Tom Rath's CareerSight team brings together industry experts committed to helping people discover career possibilities and find purpose. Background on Tom Rath: Tom is an author and researcher who studies how careers impact health and well-being. He has written 12 books that have sold more than 10 million copies and made hundreds of appearances on global bestseller lists. Tom's first book, How Full Is Your Bucket?, was an instant #1 New York Times bestseller. His book StrengthFinder 2.0 was listed as Amazon's top-selling non-fiction book of all time. Tom's other bestsellers include Strengths Based Leadership, Wellbeing, Eat Move Sleep, and Are You Fully Charged? Tom is currently co-founder and CEO of CareerSight. He previously led Gallup's workplaces business and served as a Senior Scientist. Tom was also a Vice-Chair of the VHL cancer research organization. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan and the University of Pennsylvania, where he has also been a guest lecturer. In this Ten Minute Tuesday History Lesson episode, Cal traces the full evolution of the shotgun and how it shaped waterfowl hunting from the earliest days of market hunting to today.   We start in the pre-1800s era of flintlock muskets, smoothbores, and punt guns—when ducks were harvested for survival and commerce, not sport. From there, we move into the birth of the true shotgun in Europe with early innovators like Joseph Manton and Purdey, and follow its arrival in America as wingshooting begins to take form.   The episode breaks down the biggest turning points in shotgun history: the invention of the self-contained shell, the rise of breech-loading doubles, and the golden age of American makers like Parker, L.C. Smith, Ithaca, and Remington. We then explore how repeating shotguns changed everything—Winchester 1897 pump actions, Browning's Auto-5 semi-auto revolution, and the regulatory response that followed, including the 3-shell federal limit that still shapes waterfowl hunting today.   From mid-century workhorses like the Remington 870 and Mossberg 500 to the global shift brought by imports from Beretta, Browning, and more, we track how accessibility and reliability transformed the average hunter's experience.   Finally, we land in the modern era with purpose-built waterfowl platforms like the Weatherby Sorix, advanced materials, steel and tungsten shot, and the ongoing debate that has echoed for over 150 years: how much firepower is “too much” for fair chase hunting? From black powder to precision machines—this is the story of the shotgun, and the culture of waterfowl hunting it built.   Join Flyways Hunt Club and get 1 month free! He also walks through a real consulting job he did the day before this interview, breaking down every stand location on a property he'd never seen. "We are a beauty store, and I think there's a tremendous impact that beauty products can have on someone's self-confidence and the way they feel about themselves that day. If we can put a smile on someone's face when they walk in our door, that's incredibly rewarding to me." —Annie Jackson   Clean beauty sounds good, but the labels are confusing and the claims are louder than the truth. We are surrounded by products that promise results without telling us what is inside. The real issue is not access, it is clarity. Annie Jackson, co-founder of Credo Beauty, shares how her journey from legacy beauty brands to building a clean beauty standard reshaped how products are made, vetted, and trusted. Press play to rethink what goes on our skin and why it matters: • Clean beauty standards and ingredient transparency • How to spot harmful chemicals in skincare • Why sustainability starts with packaging and sourcing • The rise of conscious consumers and Gen Z expectations • The challenge of building ethical beauty brands • What "better for you" really means in beauty Meet Annie: Annie Jackson is Co-Founder & CEO of Credo Beauty, a leading clean-beauty retailer she helped launch to bring high-performance, sustainably minded indie brands into mainstream retail. A beauty industry veteran, she began her career at Estée Lauder and was a founding team member at Sephora, experiences that shaped Credo's mission to prioritize ingredient transparency, safer formulations and sustainable packaging.  Under her leadership Credo has grown from a single Fillmore Street store to a national footprint, curating roughly 130 brands (the majority women-founded) and stewarding a rigorous Clean Standard and sustainability guidelines.  Annie is known for marrying retail expertise with a science-driven approach to product vetting and for championing accessibility and accountability in beauty. Eleanor Barraclough details the evolution of the Vikings from raiders to conquerors and settlers who established vast territories. Following a massive raid on Paris that yielded 7,000 pounds of gold, the "Great Heathen Army" invaded England in 865 AD, creating the Danelaw where Norse law and place names left a permanent linguistic imprint. Simultaneously, the "Rus" expanded eastward, navigating Eurasian rivers to settle Novgorod by 862 AD, demonstrating the dual-facing nature of the Norse diaspora. (2)

The conference runs May 19-22 at the Berlin Congress Center and is expecting around 1,500 attendees with roughly 250 speakers across 200 sessions. Warwick walks through the 2026 tagline, Digital Trust Through Intelligent Identity, and unpacks the five parallel content streams covering identity governance, real-world IAM use cases, emerging tech, enterprise infrastructure, and privacy and compliance. The conversation covers how AI and agentic identity have moved from theory to a central agenda theme, what to know about the quantum-safe identity block, why EU digital wallets and digital sovereignty are getting serious keynote time, and why EIC records everything so you never have to pick the wrong session. Jeff also shares his take on where EIC fits in the broader conference calendar alongside Identiverse and Gartner, and why he is thoroughly done hearing that identity is the new perimeter.Connect with Warwick: https://www.linkedin.com/in/warwickashford/Attend European Identity and Cloud Conference 2026 (use code idac25mko for a 25% discount): https://www.kuppingercole.com/events/eic2026?ref=partneridac26Secure Remote Access: The Foundation of Industrial Cybersecurity (KC Analyst Chat Video): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jqpNg-ogEv4Connect with us on LinkedIn:Jim McDonald: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimmcdonaldpmp/Jeff Steadman: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jeffsteadman/Visit the show on the web at http://idacpodcast.com00:00:00 Intro and AI Cybersecurity Discussion00:04:00 EIC 2026 and Discount Code00:05:47 Introducing Warwick Ashford00:07:00 Warwick's Recent Work: MDR, SRA for OT/ICS, and TPAG00:10:16 The History and Evolution of the EIC Name00:11:00 Tagline: Digital Trust Through Intelligent Identity00:12:10 How AI Has Elevated the EIC Agenda00:14:49 Sessions vs Workshops at EIC00:17:57 EIC as a Community and Networking Conference00:18:00 Jeff's Conference Circuit: EIC, Identiverse, and Gartner00:25:28 EIC 2026 Keynote Highlights00:31:55 Virtual Attendance and Session Recordings00:34:34 Hidden Gem: The Quantum-Safe Identity Block00:36:15 Logistics: 1500 Attendees and 250 Speakers00:38:00 The Five Parallel Content Streams00:43:31 Is Identity the New Perimeter?00:48:13 Fun Segment: Most Memorable Theater MomentsKeywords: EIC 2026, European Identity Conference, Warwick Ashford, KuppingerCole, digital trust, intelligent identity, agentic identity, non-human identities, ITDR, quantum-safe identity, EU digital wallets, identity fabric, identity control plane, IAM, zero trust, Berlin, conference preview, IDAC, Identity at the Center, Jeff Steadman, Jim McDonald, Warwick Ashford

Welcome to another energizing solo episode of Build a Better Agency! This week, host Drew McLellan draws on his 25+ years of agency experience to deliver both a rallying cry and a clear-eyed reality check for independent agency owners: the chaos swirling around AI, consolidation, and economic uncertainty isn't the threat it appears to be — it's an invitation. For owners who are willing to evolve, this may be the best decade in history to run an independent agency. Diving deep into the macro forces reshaping the industry, Drew McLellan unpacks the five trends that every agency owner needs to understand right now — from the collapse of institutional trust landing squarely in your lap, to the cracks forming inside the big holding company networks, to the seismic shift in how clients find and hire agencies. He shares data from AMI's own 2026 Agency Edge Research alongside findings from the Edelman Trust Barometer, painting a compelling picture of why independent, niche, founder-led boutiques are uniquely positioned to thrive while the giants stumble. Beyond the trends, Drew maps out five concrete opportunities your agency can pursue in the next three to ten years — from repositioning as a strategic advisor rather than a vendor, to monetizing AI the right way, to riding the in-house reversal as brands unwind internal teams they can no longer sustain. You'll hear real data on what's happening to AGI per FTE, why generalist agencies are losing ground, and what the consulting world can teach us about where agency revenue is headed next. If you're tired of feeling anxious about the future and ready to see the opportunity hiding inside the uncertainty, this episode is essential listening. Whether or not you make it to the Build a Better Agency Summit in May, Drew McLellan's guidance will challenge you to stop waiting for the dust to settle — and start building the agency you actually want to own. A big thank you to our podcast's presenting sponsor, White Label IQ. They're an amazing resource for agencies who want to outsource their design, dev, or PPC work at wholesale prices. Check out their special offer (10 free hours!) for podcast listeners here. What You Will Learn in This Episode: Why this is the best decade to own an independent agency for those willing to evolve their business model How consolidation among holding companies creates lucrative opportunities in the neglected middle market segment Five major opportunities that will define successful agencies over the next decade Why AI adoption gives small shops the sophistication level that previously required holding company resources How to transform from vendor relationships into strategic advisor partnerships that command premium pricing The specialization imperative that delivers 10-20% higher margins than generalist agencies Why your agency is positioned as the most trusted entity in the new economy How to monetize AI properly by focusing on outcomes rather than tool usage The workforce evolution requiring fewer FTEs but more strategic value creation

Alchemy is far more than the myth of turning lead into gold. In this video, I explore how alchemy developed across Hellenistic Egypt, China, India, the Islamic world, and Europe as a rich tradition that united experiment, medicine, cosmology, and spiritual transformation. We look at major alchemical ideas, key historical figures, and the practices that shaped both occult traditions and the emergence of modern chemistry. This lecture also examines the major scholarly debates around alchemy, showing why historians no longer see it simply as failed science or pure mysticism, but as a complex way of understanding matter, knowledge, and the transformation of the self.CONNECT & SUPPORT

The gang discusses two papers about the functional morphology of ancient groups of animals. The first paper is a review of how the life position of rangeomorph ediacaran taxa have been reconstructed, and the second paper conducts an actualistic experiment of Oviraptor nesting strategies. Meanwhile, Curt gets activated, James doesn't die, and Amanda relishes in details.   Up-Goer Five (James Edition): The group look at two papers that focus of understanding how things are long dead lived. The first paper talks about strange things that might have either lived standing up or lying down at the bottom of the water which is big and you can not drink. It is hard to tell how these things lived because there are not any around today and so instead we need to look at their form and how they are found in the rock. Most of the things seem to have lived how we thought but one actually was lying down rather than standing up. The second paper looks at how big angry animals without hair kept their round babies and helped them grow by making a form in the ground like they used and putting round babies in it. They looked at how the round babies did by themselves and how they did with a warm bag on top like their final big form. They decide that they probably had the final big form covering the round babies when they were growing but that they did not do it the same was a things that fly and do not have hair today.   References: McIlroy, Duncan. For decades now, we've been told the biggest questions of how life and our universe came to be were settled. But what if they're not?Stephen Meyer has spent his career digging into the deepest mysteries of our existence. A philosopher of science, he is the founder of the Discovery Institute's Center for Science and Culture and the author of the New York Times bestseller “Darwin's Doubt” and “Return of the God Hypothesis.”“Many leading evolutionary biologists today are calling for a new theory of evolution, because they recognize that the mutation-natural selection mechanism has limited creative power,” Meyer says. While Charles Darwin's theory of evolution and natural selection can explain small-scale variations—for instance, finch beak size changes, moth wing color changes, or bacteria developing antibiotic resistance—it cannot explain the origins of new species or new body plans, Meyer contends. Now, in a new film, “The Story of Everything,” coming to theaters April 30, Meyer lays out a case that could reshape how we think about life itself.“The scientific discoveries of the last one hundred years and right up to the present are pointing in a very different direction than people thought in the late 19th century,” Meyer says.Views expressed in this video are opinions of the host and the guest, and do not necessarily reflect the views of The Epoch Times.

Robin Ritch has spent her career building things that matter. She has led teams at Microsoft, Intel, and Cisco, and most recently served as President and Publisher of Deseret News Publishing Company, where she helped transform a 172-year-old institution into a nationally recognized digital voice. Throughout her career, Robin has had a knack for seeing around corners. She has launched new products, modernized organizations, and brought together unlikely communities around conversations that matter. She gives back through board service at The Policy Project, WikiCharities, Social Venture Partners, and Mission Edge, organizations working to make communities stronger. For as long as she can remember, Robin has been fascinated by women and their relationship with God. That lifelong curiosity is what led her to write “Using Friction to Grow”, her first book. Robin examines case studies of Latter-day Saint women who navigated significant social and ecclesiastical changes during the 1970s. She discusses how these women managed friction from society, family, and the Church to develop deeper discipleship and personal sanctification. Links Using Friction to Grow: Stories of Strength and Resilience, LDS Women 1968-1976 Watch the video and share your thoughts in the Zion Lab community Transcript available with the video in the Zion Lab community Highlights Key Insights The Purpose of Friction: Friction is a divine design intended to slow individuals down, allowing them to refine their relationship with God and smooth away “rough edges” of character. Personal vs. Organizational Revelation: Individuals may receive personal revelation for their own lives that precedes broader organizational shifts within the Church. Historical Resilience: Women in the 1970s drew strength from the stories of their suffragette grandmothers, recognizing that navigating tension within a faith community is not a new phenomenon. Individual Agency and Revelation: The women Robin interviewed did not view Church counsel as a reason to stop their personal progression; instead, they used it as a prompt to seek their own confirmed answers through prayer and fasting. Grace for Diverse Paths: These women practiced deep empathy, recognizing that God provides unique answers for different individuals and that one person’s path does not dictate the “correct” path for everyone else. Leadership Applications Validating the Struggle: Leaders can help members understand that feeling “friction” with a policy or teaching is not a sign of unworthiness but an opportunity for a sanctifying “wrestle” with God. Managing Implementation: Recognizing the gap between revelation and organizational implementation helps leaders be more patient with institutional changes and more supportive of members who see needs before the organization adapts. 00:02:00 – Robin’s Book: Using Friction to Grow 00:03:00 – The Importance of Women’s Stories 00:04:00 – The 1970s: A Time of Friction for Women 00:06:00 – The Equal Rights Amendment and Church Response 00:07:00 – Personal Stories of Friction and Faith 00:09:00 – Navigating Friction in Faith Communities 00:10:00 – The Role of Personal Revelation 00:12:00 – The Nature of Friction in Growth 00:13:00 – Engaging with Friction for Personal Growth 00:15:00 – The Evolution of Church Practices 00:17:00 – The Importance of Change and Growth 00:18:00 – Balancing Hope and Disappointment in Faith 00:20:00 – The Role of Friction in Personal Development 00:21:00 – Story of a Woman’s Experience with Church Leadership 00:24:00 – Finding Strength in Christ Amidst Friction 00:25:00 – The Impact of Personal Stories 00:27:00 – The Need for Women’s Voices in the Church 00:29:00 – Encouragement for Women in Parenting 00:30:00 – Broadening Engagement Beyond Parenting 00:32:00 – The Importance of Sharing Light 00:33:00 – The Role of Leaders in Navigating Friction 00:37:00 – Understanding Different Perspectives 00:40:00 – The Influence of Social Media on Women’s Stories 00:41:00 – The Responsibility of the Hearer in Storytelling The award-winning Leading Saints Podcast is one of the top independent Latter-day Saints podcasts as part of nonprofit Leading Saints’ mission to help Latter-day Saints be better prepared to lead. The hosts challenge the utility of a creator that cannot be defined or proven, emphasizing critical thinking over vague platitudes. Is a vague God better than no God at all.Marcus-New Zealand argues that prophet Ellen White possessed precognition by predicting a magazine meeting. In this episode of The Greatness Machine, Darius Mirshahzadeh welcomes back NHL legend Chris Pronger for a candid conversation on the mindset, discipline, and adversity behind elite performance. From growing up in small-town Canada to becoming a Stanley Cup champion and Olympic gold medalist, Chris shares the unfiltered truth about what it takes to rise to the top and stay there. At the center of the conversation is his new book, “Earned: The True Cost of Greatness from One of Hockey's Fiercest Competitors,” a powerful blend of memoir, leadership playbook, and hard-earned life lessons. Chris opens up about early career struggles, battling inconsistency, and the turning point that came when he developed mental standards and took full ownership of his performance.
