Elite Insights - Balancing Present Goals and Future Vision in Business

Elite Achievement

The tension between achieving immediate goals and building for the future offers valuable insights on managing competing priorities with limited capacity. Mini-episodes of Elite Insights deliver actionable ideas to help leaders stay focused and make meaningful progress. In this episode you will learn how:• Quarterly reviews provide essential space to reflect on goals, priorities, and how time and energy are being allocated• High achievers often default to working harder when faced with challenges, rather than being strategic about capacity• Competing priorities like revenue goals and strategic expansion can create tension when approached with the same intensity• Intensity doesn't create instant results - dividing focus across too many priorities leads to overwhelm and feeling defeated• Some leaders over-rotate on new strategies while unintentionally stopping activities that generate immediate results• Consistency in both immediate priorities and future investments compounds over time• Four key questions to clarify priorities: What drives revenue now? What sets up future positioning? What can you sustainably commit to? Where are you spreading too thin?If you're feeling the pull between short-term goals and long-term growth and want a clear strategy to move forward with focus, let's talk. I partner with high-performing leaders and business owners who are ready to align their priorities, protect their time and follow through on what matters most. You'll find details about one-on-one coaching in the show notes.Interested in 1:1 Coaching?Kristin partners with high-performing financial advisors, leaders, and business owners who are ready to lead with more clarity, focus, and intention.Clients often come to her with a strong vision—but they aren't sure how to close the gap between where they are now and where they want to go. Many are navigating a season of growth, stepping into expanded leadership, or realizing they've outgrown their current systems and ways of working. They know they're capable of more and want a strategic thought partner to help them get there—someone who will ask the tough questions, create space to think deeply, and offer a proven process for turning ambition into meaningful progress. If this sounds like the kind of partnership you've been craving, email meet@kristinburke.com to learn more and connect.Connect with KristinLinkedInInstagramWebsiteGoal Setting Success CourseBreakout Plan

There are a lot of people that don't have the kind of talent that you do, Claude, or for that matter, I do and they have voices, but you can't hear them. So our job in the art world, I would say, is to amplify those voices in a way that's comprehensive and understandable by the folks who should be paying attention to what's going on around them and not talking at people. So my complaint these days at the art world is we're just talking at people, we're not listening to them. And if we did listen to them, you'll find that the world is actually quite a hopeful place. And then, in many respects, what Trump 2.0 is doing – is what Hazel Henderson was suggesting - is the soft path to change is collapse. He's exacerbating a situation that we've been hanging onto for perhaps far too long in even in the art world.Don Hill is a sound designer, immersive & multimedia artist, science journalist, broadcaster & public speaker. Don and I were both raised in Northern Ontario and are both sound based artists with a keen interest in technology and spirituality. I've have had long series of email exchanges over the years with Don about this podcast and my a calm presence Substack about some my doomist tendencies where Don often helped me considered more balanced points of view. We don't always agree on all the issues but that's part of the fun of art and listening. Show notes generated by Whisper Transcribe AIAction pointsAmplify marginalized voices within the art world and beyond to foster inclusivity and understanding.Challenge the commodification of fear and cortisol in media by promoting empathy and collective experiences.Embrace a slower, more contemplative approach to art and technology to counteract the accelerating nature of modern life.Recognize the limitations of hyper-individualized art and strive for collective, grounded emotional connections.Consider the future of humanity in the context of space exploration, incorporating elements of spirituality and acknowledging physiological limitations.Story PreviewCan art save us from our hyper-accelerated, fear-driven world? Journey with Don Hill as he explores how slowing down, listening deeply, and amplifying unheard voices can create collective empathy and a hopeful vision for the future.Chapter Summary00:00 Amplifying Voices in the Art World01:06 The Shift in Artistic Values03:06 Navigating Personal and Collective Grief05:01 Commodifying Fear in Art and Media07:19 The Evolution of Story Trees09:30 Slowing Down in a Fast-Paced World12:47 Future Visions and the Role of ArtFeatured QuotesWe're just talking at people, we're not listening to them. The art world as I understand it, is more about real estate, you know, perceived value and hoarding. We've commodified fear, we've commodified cortisol, and that seems to be the ingredient that makes social media so attractive.Behind the StoryThe episode delves into the state of the modern art world, critiquing its focus on real estate, perceived value, and the commodification of fear. It contrasts this with a call for art that fosters collective empathy and addresses societal challenges. The discussion highlights the importance of slowing down in a technologically accelerated world, drawing on personal anecdotes and experiences to illustrate the transformative power of mindful engagement with art. *END NOTES FOR ALL EPISODESHey conscient listeners, I've been producing the conscient podcast as a learning and unlearning journey since May 2020 on un-ceded Anishinaabe Algonquin territory (Ottawa). Have you ever felt like you're chasing the future so hard that you're missing your life right now?As a high-achieving entrepreneur, I know how easy it is to stay locked into the next goal, the five-year vision, the bigger dream. Future focus has always fueled my ambition—but I've learned there's a cost when we live too far ahead. In this episode of Success Genius, I'm unpacking the hidden downsides of excessive future focus. On Episode #170 of the PricePlow Podcast, we had the opportunity to sit down with GNC CEO Michael Costello at the 2025 GNC Global Conference in Orlando, Florida, for an eye-opening conversation that reveals why this supplement-using industry leader truly is “one of us”. Michael's journey from a volleyball-playing creatine customer in the 1990s to chemical engineer at Clorox to CEO of America's most iconic supplement retailer represents one of the most authentic leadership stories we've encountered. The GNC CEO Who Takes Creatine and Understands GLP-1 This episode, part of our ongoing four-part podcast series that began with Episode #169 featuring Jack Sehgal and Ben Benedict of Nutralabz, showcases how Michael's consumer-first philosophy and science-driven approach are transforming GNC's relationship with both franchisees and customers. From his early days buying “suspect” creatine when people thought it might be “steroids” to his current mission of refocusing GNC on consumer needs, Michael's story demonstrates the power of authentic leadership rooted in genuine industry passion. The conversation explores GNC's unique franchise-corporate hybrid model, the strategic positioning around GLP-1 medications, and Michael's vision for making GNC the trusted destination for personalized supplement guidance. His insights into ingredient trends, consumer education, and the critical importance of knowledgeable staff reveal why GNC remains essential in an increasingly crowded marketplace. https://blog.priceplow.com/podcast/gnc-ceo-michael-costello-170 Video: GNC CEO Michael Costello Shares His Consumer-First Vision https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rU1j_OaTGJ4 Detailed Show Notes: Michael Costello's Mission to Refocus GNC (0:00) – Introduction: Meeting GNC's CEO at Global Conference (1:00) – GNC's Unique Franchise-Corporate Hybrid Model (4:15) – Personal Journey: From Volleyball Courts to Corporate Leadership (8:00) – Professional Evolution: From Clorox to GNC (10:15) – The GNC Turnaround Strategy: Refocusing on Consumers (12:00) – The Power of Personalized Guidance vs. Big Box Retail (13:45) – Strategic Positioning Around GLP-1 Medications (16:45) – Ingredient Trends and Science-Based Decision Making (18:15) – Daily Routine and Leadership Philosophy (19:45) – Healing the Corporate-Franchise Relationship (21:30) – The Global Convention Philosophy (22:00) – Future Vision and Call to Action: Give GNC Another Chance Where to Follow Michael Costello and GNC Michael Costello: LinkedIn GNC: Website Related Episodes: Jack Sehgal & Ben Benedict – Nutralabz Story – Episode #169 Jose Antonio – ISSN & Creatine History – Episode #137 Thank you to Michael for sharing his remarkable journey and vision for GNC's future. Jeffrey Mosher welcomed Butch and Niki Irwin, the father-daughter team behind the Comfort Keepers of Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio. He had several questions for them in this interview just ahead of Fathers Day: The Origin Story: "Butch, your pitch mentions your grandfather as a key inspiration. Can you tell us more about that memory and how it shaped your understanding of care and led you into this field?" Father-Daughter Dynamic: "Niki, how has working with your father, Butch, influenced your professional path? What are the unique strengths each of you brings to running Comfort Keepers as a father-daughter team?" Defining "Care": "Your pitch states you're 'redefining what it means to care.' In your own words, what does that mean to you, and how does Comfort Keepers of Southeast Michigan and Northwest Ohio embody that philosophy?" Clinical vs. Personal: "You emphasize a 'clinically informed, deeply personal approach.' Can you give us an example of how those two elements come together in the care you provide?" Building a Legacy: "Butch, as a multi-generational business, what does 'building a legacy' mean to you in the context of senior care? What hopes do you have for the future of Comfort Keepers?" Challenges and Triumphs: "What have been some of the most significant challenges and, conversely, the most rewarding triumphs you've experienced in nearly a decade of running this business?" Community Impact: "How do you see your presence impacting the communities of Monroe and Brooklyn, Michigan, and Perrysburg, Ohio? Are there specific needs you address in these areas?" The Caregiving Industry: "From your perspective, what are the most pressing issues facing the senior care industry today, and how is Comfort Keepers adapting or leading the way?" Family Involvement: "Beyond the two of you, how have other family members become involved, and what roles do they play in the operation?" In this episode, I talk with Isaac French, founder of Live Oak Lake and one of the most thoughtful voices I've come across in the world of experiential real estate. Isaac's story reads like an adventure novel: raised with eight siblings on a Texas farm, homeschooled, steeped in grit. Well before turning 30, he walked five acres of tangled brush – no money, just a vision – and figured out how to design and build a seven-cabin, Nordic-inspired retreat that went viral, grossed over $1M in bookings, and sold for $7M. All in under two years. And plenty went wrong along the way. He's basically a case study in the idea: you can just do things. We talk about how Isaac blends hardware – design, layout, light – with software – hospitality, scent, story – to create spaces that are both deeply personal and universally resonant. He shares how a glitch in the Airbnb matrix led him to build a direct-to-consumer brand from scratch, and how beauty often begins by submitting to constraint, whether it's the land, the budget, or your own limits. If you've ever wondered what it would mean to build with your soul, not just your spreadsheet, this one's for you.CHAPTERS:00:00 Creating Community Through Built Environments03:48 The Journey of Live Oak Lake17:54 The Art of Hospitality and Experience27:40 Exploring New Urbanism and Placemaking36:54 The Power of Saying No39:02 Exploring Sacred Geometry and Beauty44:16 Biophilic Design and Human Connection49:45 The Role of Humans in Environmental Stewardship54:43 Navigating Success and Humility01:00:19 Future Visions and Community BuildingMENTIONED RESOURCES:Live Oak Lake | Modern Cabins in Waco, TexasCONNECT WITH ISAAC FRENCHEmail: i@isaacjfrench.comWebsite: https://www.isaacjfrench.com/ Twitter: https://x.com/isaacfrench_Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/isaacfrench_LinkedIn:https://www.linkedin.com/in/isaacjfrench/Youtube:https://www.youtube.com/c/IsaacFrench CONNECT WITH AUSTIN TUNNELLNewsletter: https://playbook.buildingculture.com/ https://www.instagram.com/austintunnell/ https://www.linkedin.com/in/austin-tunnell-2a41894a/ https://twitter.com/AustinTunnellCONNECT WITH BUILDING CULTUREhttps://www.buildingculture.com/ https://www.instagram.com/buildingculture/ https://twitter.com/build_culture https://www.facebook.com/BuildCulture/ SPONSORSThank you so much to the sponsors of The Building Culture Podcast!Sierra Pacific Windows: https://www.sierrapacificwindows.com/ One Source Windows: https://onesourcewindows.com/

In this episode of the PricePlow Podcast, we welcome TJ Dillashaw, two-time UFC Bantamweight champion turned supplement entrepreneur, to discuss his journey from elite fighter to founder of Wild Society Nutrition. This fascinating conversation explores how TJ's decades of competition experience, combined with hard-learned lessons about supplement quality and industry practices, led him to create a brand focused on clean, effective products for athletes and health-conscious consumers alike. TJ shares his evolution from someone who “didn't really care” about supplementation early in his career to becoming deeply knowledgeable about nutrition and ingredient quality. His frustrations with taking products he wouldn't personally use, despite being sponsored by major brands, ultimately drove him to create Wild Society with a focus on natural flavoring, natural sweeteners, and third-party testing through Informed Sport certification. The discussion reveals a fighter's mentality applied to business, emphasizing transparency, quality over margins, and building products that can “outlive” their founder.
