In this episode of Cinema Verbi, Father Matt and Father Brian reflect on the movies they watched in 2025 before diving into a discussion about Wicked (2024) and its sequel, Wicked: For Good (2025). They explore the evolution of the story from Gregory Maguire's original novel to the Broadway musical, and finally to the big-screen adaptations. Our hosts discuss themes of friendship and debate the value of reinterpreting old stories, examining how these films reshape (or don't reshape) our understanding of the iconic Wizard of Oz (1939) film.(0:26) Father Matt and Father Brian open the show by welcoming listeners to 2026 and reflecting on their experience hosting a live episode on It's a Wonderful Life (1946) last month. They highlight the communal nature of cinema and the importance of gathering and sharing films together.(2:24) The priests discuss their Letterboxd stats, including the number of films watched, total hours logged, favorite actors, and prominent themes from 2025. Father Matt highlights Paul Walter Hauser as his most-watched actor of 2025, and they share their first, last, and favorite movies of the year.(12:41) The conversation shifts to the episode's main topic: Wicked (2024) and its sequel, Wicked: For Good (2025). Father Brian explains the significance of these movies as adaptations of the Broadway musical and Gregory Maguire's novel, noting how the story has been reimagined for a new generation of viewers.(15:25) They discuss the history of the “Wicked” novel, its 2003 Broadway debut, and its long-running popularity. Father Brian shares his personal experience seeing the musical on tour many times, while Father Matt has only seen it performed once in East Lansing. They also analyze the decision to divide Wicked into two movies, comparing it to other adaptations like Dune. They debate whether the second movie truly adds value or simply prolongs the story for commercial reasons.(19:10) Father Matt and Father Brian explore how Wicked reinterprets the original Wizard of Oz, giving the Wicked Witch of the West a more nuanced perspective. They debate moments in the film that “tip their hat” to the original Oz story, weighing cleverness and homage against fan service and overuse of nostalgia.(30:05) The hosts examine the film's deeper themes, including power, manipulation, and the treatment of animals. They highlight how Glinda and Elphaba's friendship develops despite their differences and reflect on the two films' enduring message of friendship, personal growth, and the lasting impact others have on our lives.(41:33) The episode concludes with our hosts sharing their “seeds of the word” ratings for the films, based on how clearly they saw goodness, truth, and beauty reflected in the story.

With loyalties unraveling and past sins catching up to the present, this episode balances shocking revelations with character-driven tension across multiple timelines. The episode centers on Lucy MacLean (Ella Purnell – Yellowjackets, Army of the Dead) coming face-to-face with her father Hank MacLean (Kyle MacLachlan – Twin Peaks, Dune), whose chilling calm masks a grand, deeply warped vision for the wasteland. Hank unveils an army of mind-controlled former raiders—once violent criminals, now eerily compliant followers—forcing Lucy to confront the reality of his genocidal logic and twisted sense of “peace.” Their reunion is loaded with emotional weight, underscoring one of the show's core themes: whether civilization can truly be rebuilt without repeating the worst atrocities of the past. Meanwhile, The Ghoul / Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins – Justified, The Hateful Eight) inches closer to becoming feral as his injuries worsen, relying on fading memories of his wife and daughter to retain his humanity. His storyline takes a surreal turn when a mysterious Super Mutant intervenes, offering both physical rescue and unsettling questions about survival and identity in the wasteland. These sequences stand out for their grim intensity and tragic introspection, further cementing the Ghoul as one of the series' most compelling figures. The episode also jumps back to 2077, where a devastating truth comes to light and a new shadowy puppet master is revealed—one whose unseen decisions ripple outward toward nuclear annihilation. This revelation reframes the origins of the apocalypse, tying corporate ambition and moral cowardice directly to the end of the world. With its intercut timelines, mounting dread, and ethical confrontations, Episode 6 positions Fallout Season 2 for a brutal, philosophy-driven endgame. Mark Mangini is a six-time Oscar-nominated, two-time Oscar-winning Sound Designer. He won his Oscars for Dune and Mad Max Fury Road. Mark's also well known for designing sound for numerous films, including: Blade Runner 2049, Star Treks I, IV and V, Beauty and the Beast, TheFifthElement, Space Jam, Poltergeist,Gremlins, Aladdin, and Raiders of the Lost Ark, among many more.Mark has spent his 49-year career in Hollywood imagining and composing altered sonic realities for motion pictures. He's a frequent lecturer, an outspoken proponent for sound as art, and a guitarist/songwriter with compositions that can be heard in sex, lies and videotape, Star Trek IV, and more.Mark believes that all organized sound is music. He sees his work in movies as every bit a composition as those of Beethoven and the Beatles. He just happens to use dissonance, melodic content and arrhythmia to its fullest advantage. His work is no less considered, designed, created or manipulated. It just isn't usually what we think of as hummable. His first job in the entertainment industry was at the age of 19 in the sound department of Hanna Barbera Studios making funny noises for children's cartoons. His ears have been keenly trained by years of language study and playing guitar, which suited him well for a career of critical listening and creating unimagined aural worlds and fabricating sonic realities for motion pictures.Mark founded and ran the successful post-production sound company, Weddington Productions, for 25 years. Today he works at Formosa Group in Hollywood, continuing his work as a Supervising Sound Editor, Sound Designer and Re-recording mixer.

The movie world just got its own Barbenheimer moment — and this time it's Dune vs Marvel. On today's episode of The Kristian Harloff Show, Kristian Harloff and the crew break down the internet-breaking DUNESDAY showdown as Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday appear headed for a massive box-office collision. With Timothée Chalamet and Robert Downey Jr. both breaking their silence on the hype, we analyze what this head-to-head really means for Hollywood. Can Denis Villeneuve's epic sci-fi saga go toe-to-toe with the MCU's biggest event since Endgame, or will Avengers: Doomsday dominate theaters worldwide? We also unpack how the Avengers directors are positioning the latest sneak peeks as clues, not teasers or trailers, and what that might mean for the future of the MCU. In other entertainment news, Scott Cooper is setting his sights on a dramatic take on the Roswell UFO incident, promising a new spectacle in sci-fi cinema. From game adaptations, Ryan Hurst has officially been cast as Kratos in the live-action God of War project — and we break down what that casting choice means for fans. On the streaming front, Paramount+ is set to increase its subscription prices beginning January 15, 2026, just days before the streamer debuts the first UFC numbered event under its new broadcast deal with UFC at UFC 324 — raising fees on both monthly and annual plans as it becomes the exclusive home for UFC content. From franchise box-office warfare to streaming shakeups, blockbuster film debate, and game-to-screen casting news, this episode is packed with everything shaping the future of entertainment. The “iPS New Year's 2026” broadcast, recorded on December 31, 2025, serves as both a retrospective of the “systemic fakery” of 2025 and a strategic roadmap for the “Off-World Stage” community in 2026. The host characterizes the current era as a “soft totalitarianism” where history is manufactured and performed for a “visually illiterate” public.List of Topics2025 PSYOP Retrospective:The Drone Panic: A January “gullibility test” where mysterious sightings in New Jersey were dismissed as airplanes and the planet Venus. The Charlie Kirk “Death” Event: Analyzed as a staged psychological operation with “hoax indicators,” including the “death tent” at America Fest and the subsequent “necromancy” in evangelical churches.Psycho Stew vs. Raja Jackson: A “kayfabe” body slam event that was racialized by influencers to stoke tension. The Stabbing of Austin Metcalfe: Linked to the movie Sinners and described as an attempt to create a “white Trayvon Martin”.School Shooting Archetypes: A discussion on how shooters are now portrayed as “left-wing” or “satanic nazi trans witches” to target specific demographics.Dick Cheney's Death: Described as a “Viking funeral” coded with 9/11 references (e.g., dying on the anniversary of the One World Trade Tower opening).Media Theory and the “Meta Script”:Predictive Programming: The use of films like Oppenheimer, Fallout, and Dune to saturate the zeitgeist before real-world events.“Off-World Stage” Perspective: A framework independent of the “media duopoly” (mainstream and alternative) that seeks to deconstruct the “collective Truman Show”.Religion as Government: The view that mainstream religion is a “branch of government” used for “mind control” and to keep the “soul” compartmentalized from psychology.2026 Objectives:The Great Deconstruction: A planned project to create a 100-year timeline of staged history from 1926 to 2026.Publishing and Networking: Production of the iPS tabloid, short eBooks on world stage actors (like Elon Musk), and the expansion of PSYOP trading cards.Technological Shifts: Leveraging AI agents for “press releases” and the potential reboot of the parody cartoon “South Pole”.2026 Predictions:Expected “fake” events include nuclear/EMP threats, elite bunker narratives, blackouts, and a “fake alien invasion” connected to upcoming films.5 Key Quotes“My one resolution... for new year's eve is to no longer tolerate bad conspiracy theories that are actually mislabeled as even theories... it all comes down to religion.”“2026 is going to be fake AF. Every single psyop we are going to experience in the next year is already planned already scheduled it's on a program that we're not privy to...”“If you're scared, you lost. That's the game. If you're scared, you lost. ... Fear is the mind killer.”“They are not mad they are trained to believe not to know belief can be manipulated but knowledge is dangerous...”“We are fomenting a culture of disbelief on purpose. And believers, it's not that they're not welcome here, but they don't have a place here.”Understanding the “Off-World Stage” perspective is like learning to see the projector beam in a dark movie theater; once you stop focusing on the film's plot and notice the machine behind it, the “story” loses its power to frighten or control you.

Episode Summary Frank and Jonathan are officially back for 2026 after a hectic but fun holiday break, including the Geek Freaks Network Christmas party and a little self-awareness about how often podcasters say "you know." From there, they hand out their personal "best of 2025" picks across movies, TV, superhero projects, and games, plus run through the community poll winners. Then it's full speed into 2026 hype: a family-friendly movie calendar, the big "adult list" blockbusters (including the absolute chaos of Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 landing the same day), and the TV slate they're most excited to keep on the radar. They close with a spoiler-heavy talk on the Stranger Things finale and what the show stuck the landing on, especially character growth, the goodbye energy, and how cinematic the final battles felt. Timestamps and Topics 00:00 Welcome back, holiday break recap, and the Geek Freaks Network Christmas party 01:45 "Best of 2025" picks: movies, TV, and what surprised them 04:26 Superhero movie and superhero show poll results (plus some spicy takes) 10:16 Game of the year voting and falling back on comfort games 11:38 Best villain debate and why Pennywise took over the conversation 14:50 2026 family movie calendar (kid-friendly theater picks) 20:22 2026 blockbuster calendar: 28 Years Later, Project Hail Mary, Ready or Not 2, and more 26:43 The "event day" problem: Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 on the same date 28:22 2026 TV hype: The Boys, Game of Thrones spin-offs, Star Trek, One Piece, Lanterns, and more 38:46 Stranger Things finale review: the goodbye, the battle, and what hit hardest 47:15 Dungeons and Dragons sidebar and why they need binders like Stranger Things 50:01 "Most cinematic finale" talk and the Abyss/Dimension X discussion Key Takeaways Sinners was Frank's clear movie of 2025, with major praise for the craft and the left-turn genre surprise. Superman won the community superhero movie vote, but Thunderbolts got real respect for performances and exceeding expectations. Andor is still the "tell your friends they're missing out" show, even if Stranger Things owned the bigger pop culture moment. The superhero show vote was tight, and the conversation around Daredevil: Born Again came with real critiques about structure and payoff. 2026 is stacked across both "take your kid to the movies" picks and big-ticket IMAX events. Stranger Things earned its goodbye, especially by bringing the focus back to friendship, growing up, and the reality that life moves on. Memorable Quotes "You realize how much you say 'you know' when you're podcasting." "It felt like a finale divided in two." "This is about friends and not just this big brand fight." "Don't let Disney brush it off. Watch it and enjoy this fresh idea from Marvel." "As much as they're saying bye to each other, they're saying bye to us as well." Poll and Discussion Highlights Mentioned Best superhero movie vote: Superman took the top spot (with Thunderbolts close behind in their personal debate). Best superhero show vote: Daredevil: Born Again edged out Peacemaker in a near tie. Game of the year vote: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 came out on top. Best villain talk: Pennywise (Welcome to Derry) dominated the conversation, with shout-outs to other standouts. The “iPS New Year's 2026” broadcast, recorded on December 31, 2025, serves as both a retrospective of the “systemic fakery” of 2025 and a strategic roadmap for the “Off-World Stage” community in 2026. The host characterizes the current era as a “soft totalitarianism” where history is manufactured and performed for a “visually illiterate” public.2025 PSYOP Retrospective:The Drone Panic: A January “gullibility test” where mysterious sightings in New Jersey were dismissed as airplanes and the planet Venus. The Stabbing of Austin Metcalfe: Linked to the movie Sinners and described as an attempt to create a “white Trayvon Martin”.School Shooting Archetypes: A discussion on how shooters are now portrayed as “left-wing” or “satanic nazi trans witches” to target specific demographics.Dick Cheney's Death: Described as a “Viking funeral” coded with 9/11 references (e.g., dying on the anniversary of the One World Trade Tower opening).Media Theory and the “Meta Script”:Predictive Programming: The use of films like Oppenheimer, Fallout, and Dune to saturate the zeitgeist before real-world events.“Off-World Stage” Perspective: A framework independent of the “media duopoly” (mainstream and alternative) that seeks to deconstruct the “collective Truman Show”.Religion as Government: The view that mainstream religion is a “branch of government” used for “mind control” and to keep the “soul” compartmentalized from psychology.2026 Objectives:The Great Deconstruction: A planned project to create a 100-year timeline of staged history from 1926 to 2026.Publishing and Networking: Production of the iPS tabloid, short eBooks on world stage actors (like Elon Musk), and the expansion of PSYOP trading cards.Technological Shifts: Leveraging AI agents for “press releases” and the potential reboot of the parody cartoon “South Pole”.2026 Predictions:Expected “fake” events include nuclear/EMP threats, elite bunker narratives, blackouts, and a “fake alien invasion” connected to upcoming films.“My one resolution... for new year's eve is to no longer tolerate bad conspiracy theories that are actually mislabeled as even theories... it all comes down to religion.”“2026 is going to be fake AF. And believers, it's not that they're not welcome here, but they don't have a place here.”Understanding the “Off-World Stage” perspective is like learning to see the projector beam in a dark movie theater; once you stop focusing on the film's plot and notice the machine behind it, the “story” loses its power to frighten or control you.List of Topics5 Key Quotes

From C.S. Lewis to Luka Dončić: Celebrating Joy in Unexpected Places   On this Christmas-season Good Faith episode, host Curtis Chang welcomes back "founding friend" David French to showcase how he can give thanks in all circumstances even amid a depressing news cycle. Through five surprising "gratitudes" (from Dune and Luka Dončić to family healing and C.S. Lewis), the conversation offers a timely guide to cultivating Christian joy, resilience, and hope in anxious times. French shares why his hope isn't rooted in a "five-point plan," but in the character of God and the "light and high beauty" that can break through dark moments—even illustrated by a powerful story of forgiveness after a Michigan church shooting.   (00:02:22) - Living with Tension: Blessings and Challenges (00:05:11) - Practicing Cheerfulness and Gratitude (00:08:52) - #5: Anticipating Dune Part Three & the importance of joy and fun.
