Gio praises Tiki Barber while comparing watching soccer to understanding Dune, then reveals why C-Lo got fed up with Shaun Morash over interviewing the cast of The Hawk. After callers chime in on couples dinners, Jerry returns for an update, starting with Gio's sock struggles and Boomer floating the idea of a yard sale. In sports, Jose Caballero's double leads to a benches-clearing clash with Dennis Santana, Freddy Peralta continues to falter, Carlos Beltrán calls managing the Mets a bucket list goal, the Red Sox win their 14th straight, and Aaron Rodgers posts family photos without his wife. Finally, Gio envisions what Boomer's yard sale would actually look like.
Gio loves that Tiki Barber compared someone trying to watch soccer being lost because they don't understand it to someone trying to understand the “Dune” movie franchise. Also, Gio turned down an opportunity to interview the cast of “The Hawk” but Shaun Morash took it and ran with it.
Hosts STEPHEN SCARLATA (producer, Jodorowsky's Dune) and JOSH MILLER (writer, Sonic The Hedgehog, Violent Night) continue to battle the beast of WES CRAVEN and KEVIN WILLIAMSON's CURSED. Joining in this episode, to share stories from the Cursed frontlines, is the film's editor and long-time Craven collaborator PATRICK LUSSIER. We also discuss Lussier's career from editor to director, and several of his own unrealized projects, including a sequel to Terminator Genisys. Theme music by Brian J Casey
In this episode the guys break down how to reverse osteopenia and osteoporosis — explaining the difference between the two, why 43% of adults over 50 have low bone mass, and why this is actually very fixable. They cover the four key steps: getting stronger (not just lifting weights), eating enough to build, taking key nutrients like calcium, vitamin D and magnesium, and being consistent because bone adapts more slowly than muscle. They also discuss why GLP-1 users are showing up with osteopenia and why it's not the drug's fault, Sal's experience with Rho Nutrition's liposomal curcumin and why it's dramatically reducing his jiu jitsu inflammation, Adam's deep dive into the solar panel scam with PG&E buying his energy at $0.08 and selling it back at $0.48, creatine accelerating recovery from brain injuries and concussions in kids, protein Doritos macro breakdown, noninvasive brain stimulation improving explosive power, AI agents buying robot dogs for themselves, and whether Dune or Star Wars came first. THE MIRACLE OF DUNKIRK... AS ONLY CHRISTOPHER NOLAN COULD TELL IT. As our journey toward Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey continues, Tara Erickson, Jackie Bonsignore & Paige Kimsey experience Dunkirk (2017) for the first time, reacting to one of Nolan's most immersive and intense war films. From the breathtaking beach evacuation, Tom Hardy's unforgettable Spitfire mission, Hans Zimmer's relentless ticking score, and the film's innovative nonlinear storytelling to its emotional finale, this Dunkirk reaction is a gripping cinematic experience. Dunkirk Reaction (Full Length Watch Along): / thereelrejects Taking care of your health just got easier – start here with Zocdoc: https://zocdoc.com/REJECTS #sponsored In this Dunkirk movie reaction, Dunkirk full movie reaction, and review, Tara, Jackie & Paige react to Christopher Nolan's (Oppenheimer, The Dark Knight Trilogy) World War II epic starring Fionn Whitehead as Tommy (Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, Great Expectations), Tom Hardy as Farrier (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant), Cillian Murphy as The Shivering Soldier (Oppenheimer, Peaky Blinders), Mark Rylance as Mr. Dawson (Bridge of Spies, Wolf Hall), Kenneth Branagh as Commander Bolton (Belfast, Murder on the Orient Express), Harry Styles as Alex (My Policeman, Don't Worry Darling), and Barry Keoghan as George (The Banshees of Inisherin, Saltburn), featuring a pulse-pounding score by Hans Zimmer (Interstellar, Dune). From the desperate race to escape the beaches and breathtaking aerial dogfights to the civilian rescue fleet and one of Christopher Nolan's most emotionally powerful endings, Tara, Jackie & Paige discuss why Dunkirk remains one of the most technically impressive and suspenseful war films ever made. Chosen by Mike Burton of Genuine Chit-Chat fame, Dune was released in 1984 and was David Lynch's ambitious attempt to bring Frank Herbert's famously dense sci-fi novel to the big screen. Produced by Dino De Laurentiis, the film had a reported budget of around $40 million and was shot largely in Mexico, with huge sets, elaborate costumes, miniature effects, and enough invented terminology to make a cinema audience quietly panic into their popcorn. The cast is absolutely stacked: Kyle MacLachlan, Francesca Annis, Jürgen Prochnow, Patrick Stewart, Max von Sydow, Sean Young, Brad Dourif, Dean Stockwell, and Sting, because apparently space needed a tiny pair of metal pants. On release, the film received mixed reviews and struggled commercially, but over time it became a cult VHS-era oddity: messy, fascinating, visually distinctive, and still discussed decades later by people trying to work out what on Arrakis just happened.Checkout Mike's Genuine Chit-Chat here and Star Wars Chit-Chat here.TRAILER GUY PLOT SYNOPSISIn a universe ruled by emperors, noble houses, secret orders, and one extremely valuable substance, a young heir is pulled into a war for control of the desert planet Arrakis. There are prophecies. There are giant sandworms. There are whispered thoughts, glowing eyes, floating villains, and political schemes so thick you may need a flowchart and a lie down. One family will fall. One boy will rise. And one 1980s sci-fi epic will ask the eternal question: what if Shakespeare, space opera, and a fever dream all shared the same VHS tape?FUN FACTSDavid Lynch turned down the chance to direct Return of the Jedi before taking on Dune. The film was adapted from Frank Herbert's 1965 novel, widely considered one of the most influential science fiction books ever written. The soundtrack was mainly composed by Toto, with Brian Eno contributing the haunting “Prophecy Theme.”The famous “weirding modules” were invented for the movie, replacing some of the novel's more internal and philosophical martial arts concepts.Several longer cuts exist, including a television version credited to “Alan Smithee,” the traditional pseudonym used when a director disowns a project.Lynch has often avoided discussing the film in detail, largely because he did not have final cut.The sandworm effects used miniatures and practical techniques, giving them that distinctive handmade 1980s fantasy look.Sting's Feyd-Rautha became one of the film's most memorable images, thanks partly to a costume that appears to have been designed by someone very confident in the future of underwear.Patrick Stewart's Gurney Halleck charging into battle with a pug remains one of the most gloriously baffling images in all of vintage sci-fi cinema.SUPPORT THE SHOWSupport the Show If you enjoy the show and would like to support us, we have a Patreon here. "We all crave more humanity, more tactility, more contact with the real world. And AI done in the right way can be agentic and behind the scenes and be this kind of laid intelligence that sits underneath everything but doesn't need to shout for your attention."David Sheldon-Hicks and his team at Territory Studios build the future for a living, from the interfaces in Dune, The Martian, Guardians of the Galaxy to the real screens in Audis and Cadillacs. So I was excited to have him, and Perry Mason, Territory's head of digital, on the show to explore what's coming next. David expects the future will be less like Marvel (maximalist, everything screaming for your attention) and more like Dune (analog, tactile, with deep intelligence sitting quietly underneath). He calls this "quiet tech" and thinks it's exactly what we're starting to crave. We also explore:What it takes to build near-future interfaces for Hollywood films that are believable in context, yet just out of reach in today's realityWhy exploring dystopian fears can lead to better product designBuilding a live 3D map of the entire planet — and the moment they realized they were designing the plot of a Bond filmWhy anything genuinely valuable stays hard to make: David's pushback on "Hollywood is cooked" and the wave of AI hype promising $10 blockbustersHumanoid robots as universal adapters: Why the world being built for human-shaped things might be the whole case for human-shaped machinesSupport Future Around & Find Out:Follow Dan on LinkedIn https://www.linkedin.com/in/dblums/Get the free newsletter: https://www.futurearound.comBecome a paid subscriber and help future proof FAFO! https://www.futurearound.com/upgrade
For Next Best Picture's historic 500th episode, I am joined for the first time ever on video by Josh Parham, Megan Lachinski, Will Mavity, Amy Kim, and Tom O'Brien. It's a new era for NBP, and the show you've loved in audio form for the last nearly ten years is continuing to evolve as well. For this week's main topic, we're giving you our predictions for which film festivals we feel upcoming Oscar contenders will premiere at. For this week's NBP poll question, we're asking everyone for the highly anticipated release of Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," "Which Is Your Favorite Christopher Nolan Film?" and we reveal the winner of last week's NBP poll tied to our first Oscar nomination predictions (now powered by Award Expert) where we asked everyone for the first time this year, "Which Film Do You Think Will Be The Next Best Picture Oscar Winner?" We also share our reactions to the trailers for "Dune: Part Three," "Hope," and "The Wrong Girls." We are still answering your fan-submitted questions, but our answers will now be released separately the day after, in a new show called Mailbag Monday! So stay tuned for that and many other new updates from Next Best Picture. We're excited for what is coming next, and we hope you all are too. Thank you all for listening, subscribing, and supporting us for 500 episodes. Jason and Rosie break down the 2026 Emmy noms, arguing this year's list skews unusually genre-heavy (The Pit, Pluribus, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms) and debate the Stranger Things shutout versus Widows Bay's earned surprise haul, plus a detour into whether Christopher Nolan is overrated as a director. Then: Sony's plan to end PlayStation physical media production by 2028, which they frame as an ownership problem — you're now paying full price for a revocable license, not a game you own. Finally, the Dune 3 trailer: Rosie argues it's leaning into Chani as an anti-Paul figure and turning Paul into someone the audience has to reckon with rather than root for, while she and Jason split on box office predictions ($700–800M vs. a real shot at $1B). This week, we lost one of the true pioneers of near-death research. PMH Atwater passed away, and as a tribute to her, I'm re-releasing the very first interview I ever recorded with her back in 2019 — before she knew who I was, before I knew what I was doing, and before I understood what a gift those three conversations would turn out to be.If you've ever wondered what death actually feels like, whether thoughts are things, or how a person survives dying not once but three times in a single year — this episode is for you.PMH interviewed nearly 5,000 near-death experiencers over more than four decades. In this conversation, she doesn't just tell you what she found in other people's stories. She tells you her own.In this episode, you'll hear:✨ How PMH's three near-death experiences in 1977 — January 2nd, January 4th, and March 29th — nearly destroyed her body while completely rebuilding her understanding of reality✨ The "litany against fear" she adapted from Dune and chanted by the hour to survive her recovery — and why she's sharing it with you✨ Her encounter with Elizabeth Kübler-Ross at O'Hare Airport that launched her research career — with no university, no funding, no roadmap✨ What she means when she says "thoughts are things," and how she came to that conclusion while dying✨ The voice that told her, "You are to do the research. One book for each death" — and what that meant for the rest of her life✨ Why she made the film As You Die, and why the Catholic Church stepped in to help distribute itA few lines that will stay with you:"Fear is the mind killer. It is the little death. I will pass through my fear. It will go around me and through me. And when it is gone, I will remain.""When you die, you don't become someone else than you were. You are.""Any death in a way is an opening to something else... And if we embrace that, then it can be joyful."About PMH AtwaterPMH Atwater began researching near-death experiences in 1978, becoming one of the founding figures in the field alongside Raymond Moody. Over more than 40 years, she interviewed close to 5,000 adult and child experiencers and authored nearly 20 books, including Coming Back to Life, Future Memory, Beyond the Light, and I Died Three Times in 1977 — The Complete Story. She lectured at the United Nations, appeared on Larry King Live and Geraldo, and remained a leading voice in near-death studies until her passing.Learn more about her work at pmhatwater.com.What resonated with you in this one? I'd love to hear which part of PMH's story stayed with you. Drop a comment below or reach out — I read every one.If this episode moved you, please share it. PMH spent her life making sure these stories didn't get lost. The least we can do is keep passing them on.You've been listening. You're doing the work. But there's still this feeling that you're circling the same place.Maybe you've thought about working with me one-on-one. Maybe something's held you back. I get that. And I want you to know there's still a place for you.All of it, pay what you want. You decide what it's worth. Nobody gets turned away because of money.https://grief2g The International Association for Near-Death Studies or IANDS will host its annual conference at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue. The Peter Boyles Show - July 11, 2026 HR 2: Peter Boyles opens the phone lines for a wide-ranging discussion on Iran, Israel, the USS Liberty, the Balfour Declaration, Zionism, the founding of Israel, biblical history, and the rise and fall of empires. Along the way, callers debate the Statue of Nebuchadnezzar, Dune as political allegory, religion's role in world events, and whether understanding the past helps explain today's conflicts. The conversation also turns to Victor Marx, socialism, current events, and Peter's trademark listener-driven discussions that make Saturday mornings on 710 KNUS unlike anything else on radio. -- The opinions expressed by the hosts and guests on this program are their own and do not necessarily reflect the views of Salem Media Group, its management, employees, affiliates, or advertisers. Ashley Winstead IS BACK! Gare and I ask all our burning questions about Hot Girl Murder Club. Listen to hear about: How Ashley Winstead wrote Hot Girl Murder Club as an act of creative defiance. Ashley shares the publishing and Hollywood conversations that told her feminist revenge stories were "over"—and why that made her determined to write one anyway. The surprising inspiration behind the novel's unique structure. Ashley discusses how Dune, historical dissertations, Patty Hearst, and mythic storytelling shaped the book, including an early version that was set decades in the future. A deep dive into celebrity culture, parasocial relationships, and internet outrage. The conversation explores why public opinion swings so dramatically, the complexity of figures like Lena Dunham, and how social media has changed the way we judge people. Why stories about women's anger, friendship, and justice are resonating right now. We discuss sisterhood, feminist thrillers, revenge narratives, and why readers still crave these conversations despite industry assumptions. How gossip, pop culture, and "frothy" entertainment can be surprisingly political. From celebrity scandals to folklore and urban legends, Ashley explains why seemingly light stories often become powerful vehicles for social commentary. In this episode, Breht goes on The Left Page podcast as a guest to explore the role that science fiction plays as part of the cultural superstructure of empire: a genre born in the shadow of British and American imperial power, shaped by colonial assumptions, and increasingly haunted by attempts to critique the very structures it once blindly reproduced. From early invasion fiction and dreams of space conquest to modern works like Dune, Blade Runner, The Expanse, and The Three-Body Problem, Leon, Frank and Breht examine how sci-fi imagines the future through the unresolved contradictions of the present: capitalism, colonialism, racial hierarchy, technological domination, corporate sovereignty, and imperial war. Along the way, they discuss the role of Rome in the Western political imaginary, especially for reactionaries and fascists; extend Mark Fisher's concept of capitalist realism into colonial and imperialist realism; and ask why science fiction can so easily imagine interstellar travel, artificial life, alien civilizations, and cosmic catastrophe, yet so often struggles to imagine a future beyond empire and capital.
