In the spring of 1954, a Japanese fishing vessel called the Lucky Dragon No. 5 sailed into the fallout zone of an American hydrogen bomb test at Bikini Atoll. Its crew came home irradiated, and Japan, a nation still raw from Hiroshima and Nagasaki less than a decade earlier, found itself confronting nuclear terror all over again.Within months, Toho producer Tomoyuki Tanaka, with a collapsed co-production and an empty budget to fill, conceived a monster movie. What emerged from that collision of commercial necessity and national grief was Gojira (aka Godzilla); a film in which director Ishirō Honda, effects genius Eiji Tsuburaya, and a nation's unspoken anguish combined to create something cinema had never quite seen before. The character of Godzilla has evolved over 70 years, embodying contemporary fears and anxieties in a uniquely artistic way.Godzilla was never simply a creature feature. Honda had walked through the ruins of Hiroshima after the war. When his monster surfaced from the Pacific, awakened and mutated by nuclear testing, and reduced Tokyo to ash and radiation, Japanese audiences weren't watching spectacle. They were watching their own grief and trauma on screen. The hospital scenes, the Geiger counters, the dying children: all of it was modelled on the aftermath of atomic destruction. Even the film's resolution; Dr Serizawa destroying his world-ending weapon and himself along with it, posed a moral question about nuclear responsibility that no Western movie of the era came close to asking. As long as countries continue to test and threat with nuclear weapons, as long as that threat persists, so does Godzilla, as a warning to humanity.Support Verbal DioramaLoved this episode? News: Disneyland's Autopia attraction is facing a strict state-mandated deadline to retire its gas-powered car fleet by February 1, 2027, or face being shut down. This comes after Honda discovered an administrative engine certification error in 2023, resulting in a 2024 environmental violation notice and a financial settlement for Disney. While the compliance plan doesn't explicitly force electric vehicles, Disneyland officials have confirmed they are actively developing a fully electric car prototype to keep the 71-year-old ride running. – https://www.micechat.com/437247-disneyland-news-autopia-tinker-bell-construction/ To celebrate the release of Toy Story 5 this summer, Disney California Adventure is introducing rotating drawing lessons for characters like Woody, Buzz, and newcomer Lilypad at the Animation Academy. Additionally, starting in early July, Disneyland Resort hotel guests can exclusively enjoy the “Poolside Splash Bash,” featuring themed dance parties, trivia, and character appearances in new costumes. – http://laughingplace.com/disney-parks/celebrate-toy-story-5-new-lessons-disney-california-adventures-animation-academy/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/disney-poolside-splash-bash-toy-story-5/ Disney Parks has officially retired FLIK, the wait-time tracking system that helped measure attraction queue times for more than 25 years. Introduced in 1999, FLIK relied on guests carrying red tracking cards through attraction lines, with the final installation recently removed from Goofy's Sky School at Disney California Adventure. Disney now uses newer technologies, including MagicBand data and sensors, to monitor and post attraction wait times more accurately. – https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/flik-ends-disney-parks/ Construction walls have recently come down around a new two-story Downtown Disney building, signaling that the ground-floor Earl of Sandwich and upstairs Gordon Ramsay restaurant, The Carnaby, are nearing completion. Meanwhile, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters has officially reopened following a refurbishment that updated its exterior with a retro 1967 Tomorrowland color scheme. Although official opening dates for the new dining spots haven't been announced yet, both the restaurants and the refreshed ride represent major visual updates for the resort. – https://www.laughingplace.com/ https://www.laughingplace.com/disney-parks/astro-blasters-new-colors-disneyland/ Guest falls down Tiana's Bayou Adventure – https://www.disneyfoodblog.com/2026/06/23/disney-guest-falls-down-50-foot-drop-on-tianas-bayou-adventure/ Disney Legend Floyd Norman will receive an Honorary Oscar at the 17th Annual Governors Awards on November 15, 2026. The Unnamed Automotive Podcast goes full EV this week, starting with Benjamin's review of the 2026 Honda Accord Hybrid. He says it's not dull, or bland, but NORMCORE, whatever that means. Well, let him explain! It seems to do everything it needs to and can maybe even out-do its crossover cousins across the Honda showroom in a few things, like, say fuel economy. It's an interesting review of a sedan when there's so few to choose from in the first place. Then Sami revisits the 2026 Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid. Following Benjamin's positive impression of the Japanese crossover, Sami took it upon himself to compare it to the 2026 Kia Sportage PHEV, to find out if the Mitsubishi is actually good, or just good in a vacuum. Lots of surprises here! Then the show ends on a kind note from a listener. Thanks for listening!

The Year AI Became Militarized: Shelly Palmer on Government, Defense, and $3 Trillion Stacked

Shelly Palmer has spent 45 years watching technology reshape every industry—from writing news themes for CBS to consulting with every major media company on AI strategy. On this year-end recap, he cuts through the noise with one devastating observation: 2025 was the year everyone talked about AI while almost nobody actually used it. Executives shook their heads knowingly in meetings, pontificated about capabilities the models don't yet have, and parroted nonsense they read from other people who knew nothing. But when you asked one innocent question, they crumbled. In the News: CES 2026 shapes up with Nvidia sponsoring two full days of AI training. Samsung is skipping the main floor for a massive offsite activation. Sony brings no electronics—only Honda's experimental vehicles. The TCL and Chinese companies' presence hinges on tariff policy. The innovation series breakfast that Shelly runs is becoming an official CES event after a decade of independence. The conversation spirals into deeper territory: $3 trillion in government money is stacked behind AI development. The U.S. explicitly states it must beat China to AGI—making this the Manhattan Project of our lifetime. Shelly walks through what he's seen in successful companies (leadership using the tech, paid "Tech Tuesdays" for AI experiments, cross-discipline teams with SecOps and legal at the table) versus the chaos of places with no process. He breaks down what's real—drone warfare, cybersecurity applications, robotics—versus what's hot air. And he makes a case that won't be killed by AI itself, but by militarized applications and the geopolitical arms race we're already in.5 Key Takeaways from Shelly:Leadership belief and hands-on use are non-negotiable. Companies winning with AI have senior leaders who actually use the technology. When the CEO walks into an LT meeting saying "I built this agent over the weekend," everyone else starts experimenting too.The recipe for AI success has three ingredients: leadership belief, paid time to experiment (Tech Tuesdays/Thursdays with real budgets), and cross-discipline teams (SecOps, legal, compliance, risk) paving the way. Chaos erupts without this structure. You cannot build a point of view on AI from reading blogs or watching YouTubers. Pick a personal project you care about, go hands-on with a model (Claude, Gemini, GPT), and complete it from beginning to end. Only lived experience grounds your understanding.AI parallelizes with web 1.0: In 1998, you had to hand-code HTML, build databases manually, write raw JavaScript. Today you can vibe code a site in 90 seconds. AI will eventually reach "spin me up an expert that does X" without asking questions—we're not there yet, but it's inevitable. It's both bubble and Manhattan Project. Some valuations are insane and will burst. But military applications, cyber warfare, drone control, robotics—those aren't going anywhere. The government won't back off. Both outcomes happen simultaneously. This episode is brought to you by Zappar, creators of Mattercraft—the leading visual development environment for building immersive 3D web experiences for mobile headsets and desktop.Mattercraft combines game engine power with web flexibility and features an AI assistant to help you design, code, and debug in real time in your browser. Your brain isn't broken, it's overloaded. When the news cycle never ends, notifications pile up, and work and family pressure hit at once, stress squeezes your attention down to survival mode. That narrow, defensive mindset keeps you productive in the shortest term, but it also crushes the one thing that matters more and more in the AI era: creativity. We talk about why knowledge work is shifting away from repetitive tasks and toward original thinking, and how constant “mental noise” can quietly steal your best ideas. Then we shift gears to something most riders already feel but may not have named. Motorcycling forces present-moment focus in a way screens never will. You can't safely check emails while chasing the perfect line through a corner. Your eyes, body, and mind lock onto the road, the bike, the grip, the timing, the smoothness. That focused attention declutters the mind, lowers the internal chatter, and creates the quiet space where insight can finally surface. If you've ever had a surprising idea appear mid-ride, there's a reason for it, and we break it down in plain language. To make it real, I share one of my favorite Colorado stories: the Carousel of Happiness in Nederland. Built by Vietnam veteran Scott Harrison, it's a living example of how distraction-free, repetitive craft can turn pain into purpose and create joy for an entire community. We end with a simple challenge: when you feel stressed, unfocused, or creatively blocked, don't reach for the screen. Suit up, go ride, and see what shows up in the quiet. If this resonates, subscribe, share the episode with a riding friend, and leave a review so more motorcyclists can find Peace Love Moto.Episode Sponsor:   https://www.vikingbags.com/https://www.vikingbags.com/collections/bmw-r-1250-gs-adventure-touring-hard-side-casesSupport the showBecome a Member: https://www.buzzsprout.com/2126578/supporters/newBuy Ron a Coffee: https://buymeacoffee.com/peacelovemotoGear Up at the Shop: https://peacelovemotostore.com

Inspired by an unusually long commute, the boys decide to discuss a list of things - very specific things - that bother Greg while he drives his trusty silver Honda around Bangkok. Greg begins by sharing his first major annoyance with Bangkok drivers, which is their complete disregard for pedestrian crosswalks, forcing people to sprint across the road. Next, he brings up the severe impatience at intersections, where drivers wedge themselves into perpendicular traffic even when there is no room, entirely blocking the flow. Following this, Greg expresses his frustration with luxury malls reserving premium parking spaces exclusively for 'supercars', a practice both hosts find incredibly elitist and ridiculous. After all, how do you define 'super'? Greg thinks his Honda is pretty super, but he bets the guard at Icon Siam will disagree. The conversation then shifts to the tendency of local drivers to swing out into the second lane and make wide left turns. Greg admits he has actually started doing this himself as a defensive tactic against blind corners and weaving motorcycles. After that, he points out the dangerous and aggressive driving habits of delivery workers in heavily modified, caged pickup trucks. The list continues - hazards lights at intersections, customized license plates, and finally the one rule to rule them all - if everyone actually followed the traffic laws in Bangkok, it would probably be way more dangerous.  Ed concludes by noting Greg has done an excellent job of explaining why he (Ed) rarely drives in Bangkok!

Send us Fan MailThe automotive ERP market remains one of the most operationally complex and ecosystem-driven segments within enterprise software in 2026, making ERP selection highly dependent on business model alignment, manufacturing architecture, and supplier ecosystem participation. Automotive ERP spans organizations of all sizes, from emerging EV startups to global OEMs and multi-tier suppliers, yet the operational requirements across OEMs, Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 manufacturers differ dramatically in terms of compliance, traceability, production strategies, quality management, and supply chain coordination. As a result, no single ERP platform universally fits every automotive environment. One of the most important evaluation criteria is understanding whether an organization operates in a manufacturing execution-centric model—where MES integration, plant-floor coordination, machine connectivity, and real-time production visibility dominate—or a more ERP-centric model focused on procurement orchestration, forecasting, compliance management, and financial coordination. In addition, major automotive ecosystems such as Toyota, Honda, Ford, BMW, and Tesla often impose highly specialized supplier collaboration standards, EDI frameworks, and operational protocols that shape ERP vendor alignment strategies. While these ecosystem-specific optimizations can create strong operational fit within certain automotive networks, they may also introduce challenges when organizations expand across different supplier ecosystems, making historical industry alignment and ecosystem depth critical factors during ERP evaluation. In this episode, our host Sam Gupta discusses the top automotive ERP systems in 2026. He also discusses several variables that influence the rankings of these ERP systems. Finally, he shares the pros and cons of each ERP system.Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9k5ObVkvPMoRead: https://www.elevatiq.com/post/automotive-erp-systems/Questions for Panelists?

Pet Industry Game-Changers: Courtney Honda and Slava Borisov on Redefining Pet Hospitality Commerce

What emerged from this crisis was not merely a commercial venture, but a deliberate reimagining of how communities can celebrate the bond between humans and their pets. Courtney Honda and Slava Borisov recognized that the pet industry, despite its massive $160 billion market size, had fundamentally missed an opportunity to create genuine hospitality experiences. Traditional retailers operated on purely transactional models, lacking the sensory richness and emotional connection that pet owners desperately craved. Their decision to create Puptique stemmed from a clear understanding that pets provide physical, emotional, and spiritual support to their owners, yet the industry treated them as commodities rather than family members. Courtney and Slava brought complementary personalities and backgrounds that prove essential to both their personal and professional relationship. Their yin-yang dynamic generates healthy debate and productive conflict that strengthens their partnership rather than derailing it. Courtney, fueled by the aloha spirit and rooted in marketing and wellness backgrounds, balances Slava's immigrant entrepreneurial drive and experience managing portfolios worth hundreds of millions. Together, they've learned that the financial investment required for franchising is actually the easier part of the equation compared to finding partners genuinely committed to building community for the next decade. The Headliners this week: Aston's New Coat: Aston Martin is ditching the green for Monaco. They're running a trippy, color-shifting "From Rock to Racetrack" livery. Leclerc Bags the Secured Bag: Charles locked in a massive Ferrari extension—rumored at €50M a year. He's officially chasing down Schumi's record for most Ferrari starts. The 2027 Engine Mess: The F1 Commission is stuck. The new engine ideas need bigger fuel tanks, but the current chassis can't fit them. The backup plan? Literally making some races shorter so cars need less fuel. Wild. Quick Hits & Garage Gossip Rule Tweaks: Teams get an extra winter testing day next year. Also, the FIA is clamping down on teams using old car tests to sneakily prep for upcoming tracks. Lowriders & Luxury EVs: Lewis Hamilton has been cruising SoCal in a custom '84 Buick Regal lowrider. Meanwhile, Ferrari dropped "Luce"—a 1,000+ hp electric hyper-GT designed by Jony Ive that costs a casual $640k. Tech & Rumors: Banning the rumored Mercedes engine trick, Honda's unexpected power gains, and what the heck is going on with ADUO? Plus, Williams targeting 2030 for a title comeback, and BYD trying to break into the paddock. Monaco Preview Let's honest—last year gave us exactly one overtake. What does it actually mean to be a man in today's world? In this episode, I sit down with pastor, author, and leader Joby Martin for a conversation about biblical manhood, faith, leadership, parenting, and the challenges facing men today. Joby shares why so many men feel stuck between passivity and aggression, and how God's design offers a better path. We talk about what it means to lead your family well, stay engaged in your faith, find the right people to walk alongside you, and avoid letting success at work come at the expense of what matters most. We also tackle a topic many parents are wrestling with: youth sports. How do you balance competitive athletics, church, family, and faith without losing sight of what matters most? Joby offers practical wisdom for parents trying to navigate those tensions. Whether you're a husband, father, leader, or simply someone wanting to follow Jesus more faithfully in everyday life, this conversation is packed with encouragement, challenge, and practical wisdom for life between Sundays.
