Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Al Smith. Interview Purpose The purpose of this interview is to explore life transitions, resilience, and financial discipline through the lens of elite performance, using Al Smith’s journey from NFL All‑Pro to executive, entrepreneur, and community leader as a blueprint. The conversation highlights how preparation, education, mindset, and adaptability are essential when dreams evolve or abruptly change. This interview also serves to connect the experiences of professional athletes with those of small business owners and entrepreneurs, emphasizing that success in both arenas requires discipline, accountability, and long‑term thinking. Major Themes & Key Takeaways 1. Education as a Safety Net and Strategy Al Smith made the deliberate decision to finish his college degree before fully committing to the NFL, recognizing that professional sports offered no guarantees. This choice gave him leverage, confidence, and security—both mentally and financially—throughout his career. Key takeaway: Always secure something tangible before going “all in” on an uncertain opportunity. 2. Turning Fear into Fuel Smith openly discusses fear—fear of being cut, fear of competition, fear of uncertainty—and how he learned to convert fear into motivation rather than paralysis. He treated each season as if it were his last, approaching preparation with urgency and focus. Key takeaway: Fear is inevitable; how you respond to it determines longevity and success. 3. Competition Is Not the Enemy Competition played a central role in Smith’s development. Rather than avoiding it, he embraced it, understanding that growth requires discomfort. He credits adversity, pressure, and coaching challenges with sharpening his performance and character. Key takeaway: Competition strengthens discipline and reveals accountability. 4. Financial Literacy and Lifestyle Discipline Smith addresses the common financial pitfalls faced by professional athletes, many of which also apply to entrepreneurs: Lifestyle inflation Supporting others without boundaries Delegating financial decisions without understanding them Trying to maintain an image instead of sustainability Smith’s financial stability was aided by mentors, personal involvement in decisions, and a mindset focused on not owing—not just earning. Key takeaway: Financial success is not about income—it’s about control, habits, and awareness. 5. Mentorship and Environment Matter Smith emphasizes the value of surrounding himself with successful, disciplined people both on and off the field. Mentorship influenced how he thought about money, effort, competition, and leadership. Key takeaway: Proximity shapes thinking; environment influences outcomes. 6. Preparing for Life After the Dream Even while succeeding in the NFL, Smith planned for the transition ahead. This forward thinking led to opportunities in the front office, business, and leadership. He viewed this transition as a chance to open doors for others and to understand the business side of sports. Key takeaway: The end of one dream can be the beginning of a larger purpose. 7. Athletes and Entrepreneurs Face the Same Reality Smith draws a direct parallel between: Athletes competing yearly with no guarantees Entrepreneurs running businesses without security or routine Both require maximum effort, preparation beyond the clock, and resilience. Key takeaway: There is no 40‑hour workweek when you are building something of your own. Notable Quotes “I turned my fear into fire.” “There are no guarantees—every year is a one‑year deal.” “I treated every season like it was my last.” “You don’t want to owe. You want to own.” “Don’t be scared of competition.” “The gain outweighs the strain.” “Prepare so that if it ends tomorrow, you’re still standing.” Overall Message Al Smith’s interview is a powerful lesson in discipline, foresight, and adaptability. It reframes success as something built through preparation before opportunity arrives and sustained by humility, mentorship, and intentional decision‑making. His story reinforces that dreams evolve—but character, work ethic, and financial awareness determine whether those transitions become setbacks or stepping stones. #SHMS #BEST #STRAWSupport the show: https://www.steveharveyfm.com/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Keep winning! Two-time Emmy and Three-time NAACP Image Award-winning, television Executive Producer Rushion McDonald interviewed Ri‑Karlo Handy. Interview Overview Guest: Ri‑Karlo HandyHost: Rushion McDonaldPodcast: Money Making Conversations MasterclassPrimary Focus: Handy’s role as showrunner/executive producer of Harlem Globetrotters: Secrets of the City His media career spanning 25+ years Representation, legacy, trust, and mentorship in the entertainment industry The mission and impact of the Handy Foundation Purpose of the Interview The interview serves multiple purposes: Promote Harlem Globetrotters: Secrets of the City on aspireTV+ by explaining what makes the series unique within the travel and lifestyle genre. Reposition the Harlem Globetrotters as a cultural, historical, and global brand beyond basketball—especially significant during their 100‑year legacy. Highlight pathways into the entertainment industry, particularly for Black creatives, through mentorship, trust-building, and skills-based training. Showcase Handy’s philosophy on leadership and opportunity, emphasizing responsibility, legacy, and access. Key Themes & Takeaways 1. Redefining the Travel Show Format Secrets of the City goes beyond sightseeing. The show explores how Black people live, connect, and thrive globally, especially through expat communities and diaspora culture. Episodes emphasize how to move through a city, not just visit it—using insider access, cultural context, and lived experience. Takeaway: Travel content is more powerful when rooted in identity, history, and authenticity. 2. Harlem Globetrotters as Cultural Ambassadors Handy frames the Globetrotters as “ambassadors of goodwill”, not just entertainers. They represent joy, diplomacy, and cultural exchange—appearing everywhere from the Vatican to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization. The show captures their off‑court personalities, maturity, and global influence. Takeaway: The Harlem Globetrotters are a living Black institution with worldwide reach, relevance, and responsibility. 3. Sustaining a 100‑Year Black Brand The Globetrotters predate the NBA and helped globalize basketball. After fading from TV prominence in the 1990s–2000s, a post‑pandemic strategy brought them back into media. Handy sees longevity itself as a lesson—few businesses, especially Black‑owned legacies, endure a century. Takeaway: Longevity comes from reinvention, relevance, and honoring history while adapting to the present. 4. Mastery, Discipline, and Authentic Skill Globetrotter performances are not “fake” or staged. Players must actually make the shots and execute at elite athletic levels. Handy compares their mindset to elite athletes like Steph Curry—hours of practice for moments of excellence. Takeaway: Entertainment still demands real mastery; excellence behind the scenes creates effortless magic on screen. 5. Trust as the Real Currency of Business Handy repeatedly emphasizes trust over talent as the foundation of his career. His progression—from editor to producer to network executive—came from delivering consistently on promises. Relationships, reliability, and integrity enabled him to control projects and earn leadership roles. Takeaway: Skills open doors, but trust keeps them open. 6. Mentorship and the Handy Foundation Handy formalized his long-standing mentorship work into the Handy Foundation (founded 2020). The foundation focuses on post‑production training, an area with limited Black representation. Started with 8 trainees; now has 400+ alumni working on major films and TV shows. The program is now a nationally recognized registered apprenticeship with the California Film Commission. Takeaway: Access—not just ambition—is the missing link for many aspiring creatives. Notable Quotes “Our business is less about skills and creativity and more about trust.” “A lot of times the first opportunity is the hardest one to get.” “They’re not pretending to make the basketball. You’ve actually got to make the shot.” “There aren’t a lot of Black folks in post‑production because they don’t get the opportunity to learn those skills.” “How many Black businesses can we say are 100 years old?” “They are ambassadors of goodwill. You’ve got to be a good person to be a Globetrotter.” #SHMS #BEST #STRAWSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

A jar of homemade deodorant at a Portland farmers market became a multimillion-dollar acquisition by Unilever seven years later, and the woman behind it never had a master plan.On this episode of Dear FoundHer, host Lindsay Pinchuk sits down with Jaime Schmidt, founder of Schmidt's Naturals, for one of those rare, unfiltered conversations about bootstrapping a consumer brand from a kitchen table with almost no money, no manufacturing experience, and a newborn at home. Jaime's path was not linear or polished. She was a social worker who moved across the country, got inspired by the Portland maker community, and started whipping up natural deodorant while pregnant because she wanted cleaner products and could not afford to buy them. That is where it all began. What makes her story so useful for a first-time founder is how unglamorous the early days really were. Jaime hand-formulated everything using basic pantry ingredients, packed jars in a garage with a small team working off a changing table, and sold them on Etsy and at markets before she had a real website. Getting publicity came not from a PR firm but from sending samples to bloggers and YouTubers who were excited for new things to try. An early Today Show feature brought a flood of orders she was not ready for.Transitioning from employee to founder meant learning wholesale, retail pricing, inventory forecasting, and supply chain on the fly as the brand moved into Whole Foods and beyond. Managing rapid growth brought its own pressure. Scaling rapidly through multiple manufacturing spaces while trying to protect product quality and stay cash-flow stable tested everything she had built.Jaime's advice to women starting over or starting late? Stop talking yourself out of it. Find people who support you. And stop fixating on the end game. Just focus on the next real step in front of you. She did exactly that, and it was enough.Episode Breakdown:00:00 Jaime Schmidt on Building Schmidt's Naturals From Scratch03:16 How Schmidt's Naturals Started at a Kitchen Table06:09 Getting Publicity Through Bloggers, The Today Show, and Early Retail Wins10:39 Bootstrapping Manufacturing and Scaling Into Major Retail Stores13:08 Why Jaime Schmidt Sold Schmidt's Naturals to Unilever17:28 How to Scale a Consumer Brand Without Losing Your Values22:20 Jaime Schmidt on Mentorship, Supermaker, and Investing After Exit26:28 Business Advice for Women Starting Later and Becoming a FounderConnect with Jaime Schmidt:Follow Jaime on InstagramConnect with Jaime on LinkedInSubscribe to The FoundHer Files: http://foundherfiles.substack.comDon't build your business alone, join the FoundHer Forum to build alongside women just like you: https://www.dearfoundher.com/tourFollow Dear FoundHer on Instagram Podcast production and show notes provided by HiveCast.fm Hosted on Acast. In this episode of the Crazy Wisdom Podcast, host Stewart Alsop sits down with Mauro Schilman, CTO and Co-founder of Tuki, the distribution standard for the AI agent era in travel, for a wide-ranging conversation that moves from the joys of international travel and the beauty of mathematics to the fast-evolving world of AI and large language models. Mauro shares his background as a math Olympiad competitor and later a coach, his time training coding models at the AI company Cohere, and his thoughts on how frontier models are progressing — or plateauing — at the foundational level while innovation accelerates at the application layer. The two also get into the mechanics of agentic AI, MCP and agent-to-agent protocols, hierarchical memory systems, red-green test-driven development as a powerful coding workflow, and the philosophical murkiness of open-source AI. They wrap up discussing Tuki Travel's mission to build AI-ready infrastructure for the travel industry, connecting hotels, suppliers, and online travel agencies to prepare for the coming wave of agentic commerce. You can learn more about Tuki Travel and reach out to the team at tukiclub.com.Timestamps00:00 - Stewart welcomes Mauro Schilman, CTO and Co-founder of Tuki Travel, who shares how traveling since age 15 through high school exchanges opened his mind to cultural similarities and differences.05:00 - Mauro explains Math Olympiad coaching culture and mentorship, noting LLMs now solve competition-level problems while Terence Tao explores AI assisting frontier unsolved mathematics.10:00 - Discussion turns to ChatGPT revealing Mauro's birthdate unprompted, exposing opaque application layers, preference tuning, and system prompts hidden within closed models.15:00 - Mauro argues true open source AI requires full training data, annotation protocols, and alignment processes, not just model weights, while scaling laws appear to be slowing.20:00 - Hierarchical memory models replace flat vector databases, using three-level retrieval systems improving context accuracy as knowledge management becomes AI's core challenge.25:00 - Mauro describes travel's fragmented infrastructure of aggregators, bed banks, and intermediaries, explaining Tuki builds agent-ready unification protocols for AI commerce.30:00 - MCP versus API debate clarifies natural language capability descriptions help agents consume services, while agent-to-agent communication embeds negotiating agents inside supplier systems.35:00 - Hallucinations and consumer trust block agentic payments, industries must build mistake-resilience into bookings before autonomous agent transactions become viable.40:00 - Mauro reveals red-green test-driven development methodology where agents write failing tests first then implementations, creating Oracle verification loops dramatically improving code quality.45:00 - Blockchain's potential for transparent distributed AI training discussed, distinguishing democratization from decentralization while stable coins and regulatory momentum build toward agentic commerce infrastructure.Key Insights1. Travel broadens perspective by revealing both universal human similarities and deep cultural differences. Mauro Schilman began traveling at fifteen through math olympiad competitions and found that people across the world share fundamental traits while also being shaped in profoundly different ways by their cultures. This tension between sameness and difference is what makes travel meaningful.2. Mathematics transitions from structured problem-solving in olympiads to genuine uncertainty in graduate school and research. Olympiad problems are carefully designed with elegant solutions meant to encourage creative thinking, but once a mathematician enters academia, the answers are unknown and the work becomes navigating that uncertainty.3. AI is now assisting mathematicians at the frontier, not just solving olympiad-level problems. Terence Tao, one of the greatest living mathematicians, has written publicly about how AI tools can help tackle unsolved problems, though the role of AI remains assistive rather than independent at the research level.4. Large language models are not truly transparent even when described as open source. Releasing model weights alone does not reveal the training data, annotation protocols, alignment tuning, or system prompts that shape model behavior. Real openness would require access to the entire pipeline.5. Memory and retrieval remain core unsolved challenges in AI systems. Researchers are moving from flat vector database approaches toward hierarchical memory structures with roughly three layers, which improves retrieval accuracy and reduces how much context gets consumed with each search.6. The travel industry is structurally unprepared for AI agents. A hidden web of bed banks, aggregators, and aggregators of aggregators sits between hotels and consumers, each taking a fee. Today on The Natural Birth Podcast we have Miranda.Miranda is a mother of 5 and soon to be 6 from the US, now living in Berlin. She has always believed in the power of pregnancy and birth and thinks the legacy of both is one of the great honors of being a woman. Miranda first came to natural birth 12 years ago primarily out of curiosity but has evolved into a woman who owns this rite of passage as a lesson for life. After her 4th baby she started the journey of becoming a midwife at the same university as me on the Gold Coast in Australia. She ended up not finishing as she decided to have her 5th baby and is now working as a doula in Berlin.Miranda has had 4 natural hospital births, 3 in Australia and one 1 in Israel and her 5th was a free birth with just her husband.3 of her babies were naturally conceived and 2 were IVF and her 6th baby currently in her womb was a natural conception. And, as Miranda shares in the episode, she believes SIBO - small intestine bacterial overgrowth which is a gut issue, was the cause of her unexplained infertility with her 4th and 5th needing the help of IVF.I love how Miranda can showcase for the women going through IVF that you don't have to continue with a highly medicalised pregnancy and birth which is usually the case.IVF does not in itself make a high risk pregnancy. In this episode of Dean's Chat, Dr. Jeffrey Jensen and Dr. Johanna Richey welcome Dr. Adrianne Ross, a leader in podiatric medicine, education, and podcast host of the “Insured Connection.” Dr. Ross shares her unique journey into podiatry, inspired by mentorship and solidified during a transformative interview experience where her multilingual skills allowed her to connect with patients in real time. Her training took her from Ohio to New York City and beyond, shaping both her clinical and personal perspective through exposure to diverse cultures and environments.A central theme of the conversation is the importance of communication in medicine. Dr. Ross emphasizes the foundational skill of listening first—a lesson rooted in her multicultural upbringing. She highlights how effective communication, including body language and tone, directly impacts patient care, professional relationships, and career advancement. Join us, as we reflect on how modern digital communication, while convenient, cannot replace the depth and clarity of in-person or voice interactions, especially in high-stakes or meaningful situations.Mentorship emerges as another key focus throughout our discussion. Dr. Ross credits both her family and professional mentors for shaping her values, emphasizing humility, authenticity, and growth through imperfection. She discusses the importance of creating safe, supportive environments for students and residents, where honest feedback and accountability are paired with genuine care. Difficult conversations, she notes, are most effective when built on trust and a shared commitment to development. In this discussion we also explore teamwork in clinical practice, underscoring that patient outcomes are influenced by the entire care team. Building a culture where staff feel valued and empowered enhances both patient experience and clinical success. Similarly, strong relationships—with patients, colleagues, and mentors—are identified as the “secret sauce” that distinguishes exceptional physicians. Finally, Dr. Ross reflects on her experience as a podcast host, noting the importance of adaptability and authenticity in conversations. The episode concludes with insights on gratitude, storytelling, and the lasting impact of meaningful human connection in medicine.

Tasha Funes built her aviation career across commercial, charter, government, and private aviation, and in this conversation she explains how each chapter taught her something different about the job. Commercial aviation gave her structure. Charter sharpened her professionalism. Private aviation brought those skills together and showed her what full-spectrum service, safety, and adaptability really look like. She also pushes back on one of the biggest misconceptions about flight attendants: the idea that the job is only about service, when in reality the work starts days before a trip and includes preparation, coordination, safety, and constant problem-solving. That behind-the-scenes work becomes even more intense in private aviation. Tasha explains that private flight attendants are not just there to serve passengers. They are stocking the aircraft, handling catering, cleaning, shopping for client needs, protecting confidentiality, and reading the room for high-net-worth travelers who expect excellence without having to ask for it. Her point is clear: to do this well, you need emotional intelligence, flexibility, attention to detail, and the ability to think on your feet when the day changes fast. That experience is what led her to found Exclusive In-Flight. After more than 20 years in aviation, Tasha saw that there was no real roadmap for people trying to break into private aviation, only scattered information online that often left people confused, discouraged, and wasting money. So she built a business focused on mentorship, resume development, hands-on training, and career placement support. Later in the episode, she explains how aspiring flight attendants can get started, why commercial experience can be a strong first step, what skills matter most, and why women in aviation should trust themselves, stay flexible, and stop waiting for permission to build their own path.
