For nearly two decades, Zephan and Sarah's marriage was in "survival mode". On the surface, everything seemed "fine," but underneath, a painful disconnect was growing—one partner felt "particularly lonely," while the other "had no idea". A pivotal moment during a podcast recording led to an emotional "dam break," forcing them to confront years of unspoken pain. In this episode, Zephan and Sarah share their powerful journey of moving beyond a "people pleaser" dynamic and ineffective relationship "rules". They discuss navigating the chaotic first six months—a period they call "Pandora's Box"—to build a foundation of true emotional safety and transform their communication, learning how to become a true "witness for your life".Chapters:00:00:00 - Welcome to the Connection Codes Podcast00:03:16 - Meet Zephan & Sarah00:04:12 - Why Connection Codes Was Different: How it became a "way of life," not just a quick fix.00:05:13 - The First 10 Years: Reflecting on the intensity and "survival mode" of early marriage.00:06:11 - The Turning Point: A failed podcast recording reveals one partner's hidden pain.00:08:43 - Defining Connection: The pain caused by differing views on what connection looks like.00:09:36 - The People-Pleaser Dynamic: How managing a partner's emotions prevents intimacy.00:10:30 - The Problem with "Rules": Why rule-based methodologies for relationships often fail.00:11:08 - The Core Principle of Safety: The commitment to "be safe for one another."00:13:37 - The "Dam Break" of Loneliness: Finding the language to define loneliness within the marriage.00:15:12 - Learning to "Ooh" a Partner's Pain: Validating a partner without taking on their pain as shame.00:15:53 - Seeing "Micro-Resisting": Noticing the pattern of people resisting each other's emotions.00:16:56 - The Journey of Oohing Yourself: Not resisting your own emotions as a path to self-discovery.00:22:39 - Finding Your Voice: How a safe group environment helps in sharing difficult emotions.00:23:58 - A New Way to Argue: Moving from "I'm not enough" to "I'm feeling lonely."00:29:41 - The "Pandora's Box" Phase: The scary and difficult first six months of doing the work.00:31:05 - How to Navigate Early Stages: Advice on staying curious to find connection at the bottom of the pain.00:36:40 - The Vital Role of Community: How supportive friends were essential to their journey.00:38:43 - A Partner as a "Witness": The profound purpose of a committed partnership.00:41:31 - Core Emotion Wheel Practice: The couple shares their current emotions using the wheel exercise.00:45:55 - Connecting with the Guests: How to find Zephan and Sarah for coaching.Links and Resources:Download the Core Emotion Wheel: https://youtube.com/@connectioncodes?si=phORYBsGMOOrj9mAFind out how to become a Certified Coach: https://connectioncodes.co/certified-coachingFind a coach: https://connectioncodes.co/coaches#find-a-coach-menuHaven Coaching Website: https://www.havencoaching.net/homeHaven Coaching on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/thehavencoaching/
Welcome to our final lesson in the Book of Malachi! We explore the myriad questions posed in the book, that feel a bit like a courtroom-like dialogue between God and the Israelites. The timeless nature of Malachi's message resonates across eras by highlighting Israel's pattern of unfaithfulness and connecting it to our own lives. The dense concentration of questions throughout Malachi, up to chapter 3, starkly contrasts with chapter 4 which contains no questions, signaling a shift from inquiry to God's final judgment. Acknowledging God's love, as outlined in Malachi, encourages us to see the ongoing work of God in our lives and the world around us. The Israelites questioned God's love and justice, despised worship practices, and failed to honor God in their daily lives. The answers to the questions in the book of Malachi reveal their shortcomings and guide us towards a faithful relationship with God. The book of Malachi further explores the theme of justice versus grace; as Scripture teaches us, true justice is met only through the grace offered by Jesus. Repentance and confession are essential to understand God's grace. Justice is found through Jesus. The crucial question “How shall we return to You, Lord?” encapsulates the hope of returning to God by recognizing His unchanging nature and engaging with scripture. Stephanie discusses the path to God through spiritual disciplines, offering a free video course, "Pathways to God's Presence,” to deepen this understanding. Make sure to grab your full video course at https://www.gospelspice.com/pathways In the context of the intertestamental period, Malachi's teachings reverberated through four hundred years until John the Baptist's emergence. Stephanie reminds us of historical insights, drawing parallels with significant events and figures like Alexander the Great and the Roman conquest, to contextualize Malachi's message within the fabric of time. Through Malachi 4, God promises ultimate justice and restoration, symbolized by the "sun of righteousness." Here, the imagery of wings is a protective symbol throughout Scripture, which we will compare it to Jesus' teachings. The notion of God's impending judgment is juxtaposed with the promise of protection and healing for those who revere God's name. In the context of the upcoming silence of four hundred years, God's last words offer a solemn warning blended with hope. Through Jesus, who embodied the curse and offered grace, our path was paved for redemption. Malachi invites us to ponder whether we stand beneath the protective wings of the Savior, or risk facing the blazing sun of righteousness without His grace. Malachi today challenges us to live as messengers of faith, rooted in grace through Christ, and eager to spread God's love. Details and registration here: https://www.gospelspice.com/prayer There are a few things in our Christian life that we know we should do more, or at least better – and prayer just might top the list. Prayer is a mystery. Why would a conversation with a human have any influence on God's eternal, sovereign plan? It defies logic, and beckons love. How can God, the Almighty Lord of Hosts, be this close, this personal? It defies understanding, and beckons involvement. But, lack of time, inspiration, and discipline, combined with the ruthless tyranny of our busy lives, push prayer to the periphery, to the “one day I'll get to it” pile. And yet, we can excel at what we endeavor to undertake. So, why isn't prayer more of a spiritual priority? Could we develop a mindset around prayer that made it attractive, inspiring, even maybe delightful? What if we attuned our spiritual ears to listen to God, and our spiritual eyes to see His provision? As an unassuming student, I'm going to humbly offer to share the little I have learned from others about the joy of prayer. I will give us theology, practical tips, and useful resources, sharing what works for me as we, together, learn to pray. If you find prayer intimidating, or if your lack of prayer makes you feel guilty or “less than,” then this is the place for you! If you have been a student of prayer for many years, this is the place for you too! If you have breath in your lungs, then prayer can become one of the deepest joys of your day. Don't miss out! A PERSPECTIVE ABOUT PRAYER To pray is to believe that God not only hears, but that He responds. It is to stand in the gap for a broken world, wielding the authority of Christ, empowered by the Spirit, and trusting in the goodness of the Father. The question is not whether prayer works, but whether we are willing to pray the kinds of prayers that invite God's Kingdom into the darkest places of the earth—and of our own hearts. We may never fully understand the mechanics of prayer, or how it intersects with God's sovereignty, but we are not called to understand everything. We are called to be faithful. And faithfulness means showing up—in prayer, in persistence, in expectation. So today, let us pray not only for the comfort of our hearts, but for the transformation of the world. Let us take our place as image-bearers, co-laborers, and co-heirs. Let us believe that God is still listening—and still acting. Because He is. There's only one way to find out what might happen when we truly pray like this. Let's begin. THE MINDSET BEHIND THIS COURSE Before we begin, let me tell you the obvious: I don't really know how to pray. I'm a humble student and absolute beginner at the holy endeavor that is prayer. So, this course isn't really about what I've learned, or any wisdom I might have gathered. But, I've sat at the feet of many prayer warriors over the decades, through books and teachings. So, I'll share what I learned from them. Humility is going to be our primary heart posture! With each lesson, I will offer a few thoughts, practices, and ideas – with much humility, and not taking myself too seriously. I will also share her favorite books and resources about prayer. FInally, I will introduce you to some of the most influential prayer warriors of our history as the Body of Christ. Most importantly, I will invite YOU to pray! Learning to pray comes from praying. Our humble ambition is to inspire you to pray, and to give you a few tips on how to do that. Then, it's up to you! Prayer is a lifelong endeavor. Let's make it delightful together! Disempowered to Empowered: Meltdowns, Boundaries & Donuts In this heartfelt episode, Patricia (she/her) shares three powerful personal stories that highlight the challenges—and wins—that come with being a sensitive, creative, neurodivergent human. From navigating family dynamics around living arrangements, to reclaiming power after a disempowering volunteer experience, and even exploring the emotional depth behind a simple craving for an apple fritter, Patricia offers an intimate and validating glimpse into what it's like to be an AuDHDer who feels things deeply—and still chooses to show up. KEY TAKEAWAYS · You don't need to justify your needs. “They don't have to understand why I need two months. I just do.” · High masking + high empathy often = emotional invisibility. You're not alone if you feel overlooked or undervalued. · Internalizers often seem fine while falling apart inside—naming your pain out loud is a radical act of self-love. · Disempowerment doesn't mean you're weak. It often comes from past trauma, sensory overload, or lack of support. · Communication isn't always immediate. It's okay if clarity or assertiveness comes a day (or three) later. · There's no such thing as “too sensitive”—just systems that weren't built for your needs. HIGHLIGHTS · Patricia emphasizes the importance of asserting one's needs without feeling apologetic. · She shares her experience of feeling disempowered in family dynamics and how she navigated that. · The conversation highlights the challenges of communication in relationships, especially for neurodivergent individuals. · Patricia discusses the significance of volunteering and how it contributes to her sense of empowerment. · She reflects on the internal struggles (and unrealistic desire) of wanting others to understand her needs without explicit communication. · The importance of processing emotions and taking time to understand one's feelings is emphasized. · Patricia shares her journey of finding strength in her volunteering experience with horses. · She discusses the impact of trauma on her ability to communicate effectively. · The conversation touches on the theme of sensitivity being a unique aspect of one's identity, not something to apologize for. · Patricia encourages listeners to embrace their sensitivity and understand its value. SOUND BITES "I need to have a meltdown." "It's my responsibility." "I felt seen and I felt heard." "I think we've learned to just detach from our feelings, to dissociate, and go along to get along—but it just doesn't work for us anymore." SENSITIVITY IS NOTHING TO APOLOGIZE FOR; IT'S HOW YOUR BRAIN IS WIRED You are not broken. You were shaped by systems that weren't built for you. You deserve rest, joy, and support exactly as you are. TOPICS COVERED · Autistic meltdowns & internal regulation: How Patricia recognized an impending meltdown and advocated for space and support. · Family boundaries & accommodation: The emotional toll of giving up a beloved workspace, and the grief that often goes unseen. · Losing & reclaiming joy: When creative hobbies fade and space feels scarce, how do you reconnect with yourself? · Assertiveness without apology: Speaking up about needs, even when it's hard, awkward, or overdue. · Feeling invisible in groups: Disempowerment during horse volunteer training and the journey to feeling confident and capable again. · Processing delays & trauma: Why it sometimes takes days to realize something didn't feel okay—and that's valid. · The donut story (yes, it matters): What a pastry can teach us about needs, unmet expectations, and healthy communication. · Relational repair & emotional safety: The delicate dance of vulnerability, misunderstanding, and being met with care. · The problem with people-pleasing: When masking and fawning keep you from honoring your own feelings. · What sensitivity really means: Reframing neurodivergent traits as strengths, not flaws. PODCAST HOST Patricia (she/her) was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over 17 years, but she is now exclusively providing coaching. She knows what it's like to feel like an outcast, misfit, and truthteller. Learning about the trait of being a Highly Sensitive Person (HSP), then learning she is AuDHD with a PDA profile, OCD and RSD, helped Patricia rewrite her history with a deeper understanding, appreciation, and a sense of self-compassion. She created the podcasts Unapologetically Sensitive and Unapologetically AuDHD to help other neurodivergent folks know that they aren't alone, and that having a brain that is wired differently comes with amazing gifts, and some challenges. Patricia works online globally working individually with people, and she teaches Online Courses for neurodivergent folks that focus on understanding what it means to be a sensitive neurodivergent. Learning to overcome our all-time and number one problem and the cultural myth of self-reliance is vital for a robust Christian life. My guest this week is entrepreneur Nicky Wake. Nicky's story of grief and love and parenting is one that I was immediately inspired by when I first heard it. After meeting her soulmate Andy Wake back in 2002, Nicky went on to live her best life, and after a long journey to conceive, welcomed a baby boy called Finn. When Finn was just 9 years old, his dad, Nicky's soulmate Andy, had a heart attack that would leave him in a coma and then in round-the-clock care until he eventually passed away back in 2020, when Finn was just about to enter his teenage years. Parenting is challenging enough, but with her own grief and her son's to deal with, Nicky faced a period of intense darkness which resulted in struggling with alcoholism and going into rehab. Her son, just on the cusp of his 17th birthday, told her that getting sober would be the best gift she could give him. So that's what she did. Nicky is now sober, running multiple businesses, and channeling her grief and her pain into positivity by uniting other widows and widowers to help them bond and find love again, moving forward – but not moving on – through it all. This is a captivating story and Nicky's positivity throughout is really something to behold. I'll be back next week with more. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

I am examining four things you and I need to learn—and re-learn and re-learn! For example, how often do we need to learn to be content. Someone once said, "The thing about life is, it's just so daily.” Do you find it that way sometimes: Routine, mundane, repetitive, and seemingly meaningless? Learning to live with the dailyness of life is a key to contentment and joy. At times, we are victims of looking on the other side of our fence and deciding the grass over there sure looks greener than our grass. It just sometimes seems like our lives are painted drab gray and everybody else has bright red or yellow! All our lives are made up in large part of those daily duties, those mundane tasks, those repetitive responsibilities. Nobody escapes them. Regardless of how green the grass looks in someone else's garden, believe me when I tell you their lives are very daily, too. Someone once wrote: "The uncommon life is the product of the day lived in the uncommon way.” That means a person whose life is exciting and full is one who finds meaning and satisfaction in the seemingly insignificant, daily things in our lives. Let me give you a very simple example: I have some china I really love. And it's gives me great pleasure to set my table with it, to hold it, even to wash it. I enjoy my china. I remember once, when my daughter was very young, she found it rather strange to hear me getting excited about this china that I had owned for years. And I said to her, "If you can find pleasure and joy in the little things in your life, your life will be full of pleasure and joy. Otherwise, it's going to be very drab most of the time, with a few high points only now and then." Regardless of how humble and unpretentious your daily life may seem, you can elevate it if you can learn to enjoy and appreciate the "dailyness" of your life—if you can appreciate what you have. As the Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians 4, it is learning the secret of being content in any and every situation. Contentment brings meaning to our daily lives and frees us from the dreariness of looking over our fence at someone else's grass. Have you enrolled in the school of contentment? You can begin today by appreciating the small things, smelling the roses in your life, instead of being focused on what you don't have and looking over your fence all the time.

In this week's episode, NeuroBiz coach Emily Duval Ledger shares with hosts Erin Gallardo, PT, DPT, NCS and Claire McLean, PT, DPT, NCS the lessons she's learned so far from attempting a hard thing: Learning to roller skate at 48 years old. Emily decided to try something new. Something she wasn't inherently good at and through her roller skating experience, she's picked up lessons that overlap with the things business owners need to keep in mind. She describes how her initial skating lessons put her face to face with the biggest thing she wanted to avoid - falling - and why it ended up being the best thing. Emily emphasizes that successful entrepreneurs often emerge from previous failed ventures, and approaching challenges with curiosity instead of anxiety can lead to greater success. The episode highlights the importance of infusing fun and playfulness into learning, demonstrating how pairing skill practice with lighthearted conversation can reduce performance pressure and enhance creativity. Emily argues that leaving space for joy allows individuals to be more nimble and innovative in both personal pursuits and professional environments. Her final lesson focuses on "softening" when encountering obstacles - maintaining flexibility and a relaxed mindset when navigating unexpected business challenges, much like adjusting one's stance while roller skating over uneven terrain. By sharing her vulnerable learning process on her "Silver Skate Girl" Instagram account, Emily hopes to inspire others to step out of their comfort zones and embrace new experiences. The conversation ultimately celebrates continuous learning, community support, and the value of approaching life's challenges with openness, humor, and resilience. You can follow Emily on her skating journey @silverskategirl
For many L&D teams, compliance training is a necessary burden—dominated by tick-box exercises, clunky e-learning, and endless chasing. Bex flips the script and puts Michelle in the hot seat. We get into the messy middle: pivoting from acting to construction to podcasting, the burnout that forced a reset, money honesty, why community matters, and how to build something you care about without losing your mind (or your keys).Key takeawaysYou don't need to burn it all down to pivot—build the bridge while you're still on it.Self-awareness is a double-edged sword; pair it with action and data, not doom-scroll metrics.Ask for help.
