In this solocast  I talk about probably the most important decision you will make in your life, choosing a partner. A strong match can amplify happiness, health and success for decades; where a poor one can drain energy, create chaos and affect children adversely. In the beginning when dating, date with intention rather than desperation or just entertainment. Know yourself well so you are clearer in what you are experiencing that is right for you. Many people also avoid deeper questions in the beginning of their relationship. I give examples of some of these questions to get clearer and not just caught up in the attraction. It is important that you pay attention to consistency in availability, response to your needs, and comfort with vulnerability. Choose Well! Let's Talk About It! The panel breaks down Apple's new cross-platform approach to software announcements, focusing on how features now seamlessly connect across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, Vision Pro, and Apple TV instead of being separated by operating system. The discussion covers the redesigned Liquid Glass interface updates, smarter Spotlight search, faster system performance, HomeKit improvements, and Apple's renewed focus on optimization across devices. Dave, Jeff, and Patrice react to Apple's on-screen awareness features, improved dictation, personal context understanding, image generation tools, Spotlight integration, and the deeper AI integration throughout the Apple ecosystem. The hosts debate whether Apple is finally catching up in AI while still maintaining its privacy-first philosophy. Vision Pro also gets significant attention with new spatial features, immersive environments, and Siri integration that impressed the panel throughout the keynote. The group also spends time discussing Apple's expanded parental controls and child safety features, including app category limits, contact approvals, website permissions, and more granular family management tools. Other topics include Image Playground upgrades, AI-powered photo editing, Passwords app automation, smarter Shortcuts creation, Xcode AI enhancements, and device compatibility concerns surrounding the newest Apple Intelligence features. The episode wraps with overall reactions to the keynote, thoughts on Apple's future direction, and commentary on how WWDC 2026 differed from previous years by focusing more on unified experiences than individual operating systems.   Announcements Macstock X is here celebrating its 10th anniversary ! Hello to you listening in Kyle, Canada!  Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday & your host, Diane Wyzga. A few years ago Paul King, writing from somewhere in America, wished for a Solidarity Saturday, and I created a podcast episode. Reading it anew my pulse went all fizzy with a plan to re-establish this simple collective action. I'd like to see every Saturday be "Solidarity Saturday." Each Saturday, at 10am in every time zone on earth, we all do a very simple act: Step outside our homes into the open and stand in silence for 10 minutes. Just show ourselves. Stand with neighbors. Come out and be seen together, our presence a protest. All over earth on every Saturday as each time zone hits 10am. Billions of us just stepping outside, showing ourselves, showing evil that we oppose it! Just walk out the door into the open. Not hard. CTA: Right Here. Right Now. Spread the good word like grape jelly on a toddler! Invite your friends and rellies all over the world to step outside and stand together at 10am in your time zone 10 minutes on each Solidarity Saturday. Let me know, from where will you be joining us?  You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! You will have wonderful company as we continue to walk our lives together. As You Wish Talk Radio with James Gilliland Contact, Consciousness, and Self-Mastery: James Gilliland and Peter Slattery on Disclosure, Discernment, and the New Earth James Gilliland Opens with ECETI Announcements In this episode of As You Wish Talk Radio, host James Gilliland opens with housekeeping announcements for upcoming events at the ranch, including a Retreat to Silence with Jesse, a Self-Mastery Ambassador Training with James and Peter, and a remote viewing workshop with guest Peter Slattery. James describes the ranch as a place where silence is never truly silent because, in his view, many masters and beings are present there. He then introduces Peter as a longtime contactee, author, documentary creator, and “brother from another mother.” Peter Slattery on Contact and Activity in Australia Peter joins from Australia and discusses preparations for his upcoming workshops and travel to the United States. He and James describe intense recent sky activity, including fleets of ships, objects around the space station, activity near Starlink, and craft seen with the naked eye. Both men say that contact activity has increased dramatically, and Peter suggests that the multidimensional nature of the phenomenon is becoming harder to ignore. James says activity at the ranch has become so frequent that guests often see multiple objects in the sky at once. Disclosure, Controlled Narratives, and Spiritual Censorship James and Peter then turn to what they see as problems inside the UFO and disclosure communities. James argues that if major disclosure platforms were truly interested in contact, consciousness, and the multidimensional world, they would pay closer attention to long-term contact sites like ECETI and Peter's work. Instead, he says authentic spiritual contact is censored, attacked, or pushed aside. Both men describe what they see as a controlled narrative that avoids the spiritual side of contact and suppresses people who bring evidence, direct experience, and higher-dimensional teachings. Attacks, Discernment, and Integrity A major theme of the episode is the personal and spiritual pressure James and Peter say they and others in the field have experienced. They discuss online attacks, hacking, character assassination, black magic, demonic influence, reptilian or lower-astral interference, and the use of fear, rage, and division to destabilize people. James says that when critics cannot refute evidence of contact, they often attack a person's character instead. Peter emphasizes the importance of energetic clearing, discernment, and self-mastery so people do not unknowingly carry or amplify negative influences. The Divine Feminine, Yeshua, and Ancient Teachings James and Peter also discuss the divine feminine, Mary Magdalene, Mother Mary, Yeshua, the Ethiopian Bible, ancient contact, and suppressed spiritual history. Peter connects the rise of the divine feminine to a correction of long-standing masculine imbalance, while James argues that Yeshua's deeper teachings were about empowering individuals to make their own direct connection with God or Source. They also discuss Mary Magdalene as a highly trained spiritual figure rather than the diminished figure they believe religious tradition later portrayed her to be. Self-Mastery, Clearings, and Creating Heaven on Earth The conversation repeatedly returns to self-mastery and personal responsibility. James says people should ask whether their actions are helping create heaven on earth or contributing to competition, slander, division, and victim patterns. Peter recommends regular energetic clearings and shielding practices, including visualizing an orb of light and connecting with the heart. They both stress that clearing is important, but not a substitute for inner work. Peter describes clearings as necessary, but also says people must look at their own wounds, ego, rage, and projections if they want lasting transformation. Children, Sensitivity, and Safe Spiritual Space James and Peter discuss children who are sensitive, telepathic, spiritually open, or already experiencing contact. Peter cautions that children should not be pushed into skywatching or contact work without proper protection, prayer, and clearing. James agrees that parents should create safe, clear environments and listen to children rather than dismissing their experiences. He recalls passing a talking stick around a fire circle with children and being impressed by their answers about healing the Earth, saying many parents realized they needed to listen more deeply to their children. Workshops, Remote Viewing, and the Closing Message Near the end, James and Peter return to the upcoming workshops. Peter says his remote viewing class will cover the Stargate method, multidimensional communication, connecting with guides, the Merkaba, rainbow body work, and galactic contact. James adds that he will share new information about ancient civilizations that came before the Anunnaki and the beings connected to them. The episode closes with James asking for support for the ranch and retreat work, while both men encourage listeners to remain kind, open-hearted, discerning, and committed to their own direct spiritual connection.

The 5D Academy with Zarathustra explores universal wisdom to foster total freedom from suffering in all areas of your life; health, wealth, love, and self. Each Academy podcast contains valuable insights and takeaways to become the best version of yourself and create an authentic, fulfilling life. Zarathustra transmits 5th Dimensional Quantum frequencies in each episode with transformational tools while discussing different topics to help you maintain this new frequency in your daily life. Zarathustra has created a practical system of transmitting the truth to his audience allowing transformation and freedom from suffering. Spiritual development requires an open heart. It is virtually impossible for a seeker to advance to higher consciousness if they don't love themselves. The belief system which has been ingrained in our cellular memory from childhood that we are not good enough results in a conditioned mind. The conditioned mind holds the false belief that there is something missing in our lives, that we are incomplete, that we need to gain something in order to become happy and whole, which is not true. After a life time of searching, Zarathustra has blended a practical system of Eastern and Western methods and techniques to help the Academy members to free themselves from anxiety, negative thoughts, lack of self-love and self-acceptance and destructive emotional patterns through a systematic way to raise your vibration to 5D Vibrational Frequency, which enables you to live a vibrant life of freedom and happiness. The Key Elements To Freedom: Zarathustra recognizes continuity and consistency are the key elements to freedom. In order to help you achieve your spiritual goals, it's best to have a highly effective spiritual practice, free of dogmas, false beliefs and superstition that helps you raise your vibration to 5D Vibrational Frequency as well as the ability to maintain this newly found higher level of consciousness. This translates to a life filled with inner peace, self-love and happiness which is the goal of every spiritual seeker. New knowledge and benefits are gained with each replay. The panel opens the show with plenty of humor before diving into several Vision Pro-focused stories and apps that caught their attention this week. The discussion begins with Apple's recognition of The Primary News in Depth as part of the Apple Design Awards. The app delivers immersive spatial news experiences on Vision Pro and sparks conversation about the future of immersive journalism and the challenges of producing high-quality spatial video content. Marty points out how apps like this can expose users to stories and perspectives from around the world that traditional U.S. news outlets often overlook. The panel also highlights Let's Go Fly, a free Vision Pro immersive aviation app that lets users experience flight in spatial video. Jill shares her enthusiasm for flight simulation experiences and discusses how immersive environments like this could become a major use case for Vision Pro moving forward. Attention then shifts to the future of Vision Pro hardware after new reports suggested Apple may be developing a lighter and more affordable Vision Pro successor for release sometime around 2028. Marty explains the distinction between Vision Pro as a premium immersive entertainment and enterprise device versus future Apple smart glasses aimed at mainstream consumers. Jeff strongly pushes back against ongoing claims that Vision Pro is "on ice," arguing Apple has always treated the product as an evolving platform rather than a mass-market product from day one. Jill compares the current state of Vision Pro to the early days of expensive VHS players and other technology products that eventually became mainstream over time. The team also discusses a newly granted Apple patent describing an Apple Pencil-like XR input device capable of providing haptic feedback and texture simulation in virtual environments. Jeff becomes especially excited about the creative possibilities for artists, sculptors, and even medical professionals using virtual tools with tactile feedback. The group also talks about how Apple's haptics technology continues to separate its ecosystem from competitors. On the software side, the panel reviews the latest Apple beta and minor software updates, including macOS Tahoe 26.5.1 and an iOS update addressing charging issues affecting iPhone Air and iPhone 17 models. Jeff shares a theory that the macOS update may also quietly address kernel panic crashes tied to external spinning hard drives connected to Macs. With WWDC 2026 only days away, the discussion shifts heavily toward predictions and expectations for Apple's annual developer conference. The panel reacts to Apple inviting WWDC attendees to a special screening of The Mandalorian and Grogu at Apple Park, complete with a possible appearance by special guests involved with the film. Dave shares his thoughts after seeing the movie in theaters and praises its action sequences and sound design. The conversation then turns to WWDC predictions, with everyone agreeing that Apple Intelligence and Siri upgrades will likely dominate much of the keynote. Jeff expects Apple to focus on AI integration without going overboard the way other tech companies have recently done. Jill hopes Apple introduces a much more personal and contextual AI assistant capable of understanding the user's device, files, habits, and health data. She also expresses interest in deeper HealthKit integration that could provide meaningful insights into sleep patterns, blood sugar tracking, and wellness habits. Marty predicts Apple will expose new APIs allowing Siri and Apple Intelligence to integrate more deeply into apps and potentially VisionOS itself. HomeKit and smart home functionality become another major topic as the panel discusses rumors surrounding new HomePod mini hardware, a refreshed Apple TV, and a possible smart home-focused "HomePad" device. Jeff floats the idea that Apple could eventually position Apple TV as a more serious gaming console if future hardware includes dramatically improved processors. The show also includes several practical Apple tips, including how to leave FaceTime video voicemail messages, set up text replacements, use the one-handed iPhone keyboard, clear notifications quickly, and set timers that automatically stop music or audio playback. Jeff also highlights how much he relies on Universal Clipboard between Apple devices throughout his day. Later in the episode, the panel discusses Apple's latest App Design Award winners, including apps like Structured, Grug, Is This Seat Taken?, Guitar Whiz, and immersive Vision Pro NBA experiences. Jill shares her enthusiasm for Structured as an ADHD-friendly productivity app, while Marty and Jeff discuss puzzle games, retro-style experiences, and the growing creativity in Apple's developer ecosystem. The episode closes with excitement surrounding Macstock 10 and the upcoming Ecamm Creator Camp event. Dave, Marty, Jeff, and Jill talk about their upcoming presentations, the importance of community networking, and how Macstock continues to bring together Apple fans, creators, podcasters, and developers for one of the most enjoyable Apple community events of the year. The panel also reflects on the upcoming closure of the British Tech Network and the final episodes of several long-running shows. What if the biggest thing holding your photography back isn't your camera, lens, or lighting—but your ability to read people? In this episode of Jason Lanier Unfiltered, Jason and Krystal recap the first stop of the Mini Masterclass Tour in Pensacola, Florida and dive deep into one of the most overlooked skills in portrait photography: understanding human body language.Too many photographers become obsessed with settings, gear, and technical perfection while completely missing the signals their subjects are sending. Is your subject comfortable? Nervous? Unsure? Losing confidence? The answers are often written all over their face and body long before they ever say a word.Jason and Krystal discuss how learning to read posture, eye contact, facial expressions, movement, and energy can transform an average portrait session into an unforgettable experience. They share real-world examples from the Pensacola workshop, including how to get a shoot started with shy subjects, how to keep momentum flowing, why storytelling creates authentic emotion, and the critical difference between directing a subject and simply asking for permission. The conversation also covers:Why photographers often struggle during the first five minutes of a shoot. How men and women frequently approach portrait sessions differently.Reading confidence versus discomfort in real time.Building trust quickly with subjects.Using communication to create genuine expressions. Why great portrait photographers are often great people readers.Lessons learned while shooting in Pensacola's historic Seville Quarter District.Lighting techniques using the Godox AD300 Pro, LEDs, vintage vehicles, and environmental lighting. If you've ever wondered why some photographers consistently create authentic, emotional portraits while others struggle to get natural expressions, this episode may completely change the way you approach your next shoot.Because the best portrait photographers don't just understand light. They understand people.#JasonLanierUnfiltered #PortraitPhotography #BodyLanguage #PhotographyPodcast #PhotographyEducation #PortraitPhotographer #PhotographerLife #PhotographyWorkshop #MiniMasterclass #PensacolaPhotography #HumanConnection #StorytellingPhotography #PosingTips #PhotographyBusiness #GodoxAD300Pro #PortraitTips #CreativePhotography #PhotographerMindset #PhotographyTraining #FedoraNation

The show kicks off with discussion around Apple's latest beta releases for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, visionOS, watchOS, and tvOS. While the updates appear mostly focused on bug fixes and stability improvements, the panel speculates Apple may already be quietly laying groundwork for major WWDC announcements behind the scenes. Vision Pro continues to dominate conversation this week with the arrival of the native Steam Link app, giving users a new way to stream PC games directly into Apple's headset. The panel discusses the growing gaming possibilities for Vision Pro, including PS5 remote play support and whether Apple's expensive headset could eventually become a more serious entertainment and gaming platform. Leaked images of black Vision Pro components also spark speculation about possible future hardware revisions or prototype devices Apple may still be testing internally. Security and messaging updates are another major focus this week. The crew discusses Apple's expanded transparency around CVE security reporting, encrypted RCS messaging support in Messages, and how users can verify end-to-end encryption is active. The conversation quickly turns humorous as the group debates Apple's new alerts for users who max out blocked contacts, leading to stories about spam texts, political messages, and the endless battle against robocalls. On the Mac side, the panel covers the M5 MacBook Air reaching one of its lowest prices yet, making it an especially attractive option for Apple users looking to upgrade. Dave also shares excitement about the massive Virtual OS Museum project, which allows users to explore and run classic operating systems from decades past, including older versions of macOS, Windows, Linux, Atari, and more. The discussion then shifts into AI and Apple's future plans. OWC's upcoming Stack AI hardware generates interest as the panel explores how local AI processing and large language models may shape the future of Mac hardware. From there, the conversation moves into new rumors surrounding iOS 27, including reports of a redesigned Siri experience, a standalone chatbot-style Siri app, Dynamic Island integration ideas, and Apple's ongoing effort to compete in the rapidly evolving AI space. The panel debates whether Apple is truly behind competitors like ChatGPT and Gemini, or simply pursuing a more privacy-focused and ecosystem-driven approach. The crew also spends time discussing Apple's redesigned app icons and the growing confusion surrounding Creative Studio apps like Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro. Jeff Gamet passionately argues Apple has "completely lost the plot" with icon design, while Marty Jencius defends the idea of evolving aesthetics, leading to one of the funniest debates of the episode. Practical user tips round out the show, including how to customize CarPlay layouts, manage widgets and apps, enable 120Hz ProMotion refresh rates on iPhone, and use Apple Wallet driver's licenses in supported states. The panel shares real-world experiences using digital IDs and Apple Pay, including a hilarious story about a cashier insisting Apple Pay users still needed to "pay with money." Finally, the crew previews Macstock 2026 and Creator Camp, encouraging listeners to join the Apple community event this summer. He noticed that machine learning engineers at tech companies lacked the humanities background needed to properly interact with large language models, which are fundamentally linguistic tools. This led him to create weekly workshops teaching non-technical people how to use AI effectively, running events every Thursday for two years straight. The group attracted intense geeks from the start and eventually led to Stewart speaking right after Vitalik Buterin at DevConnect, marking a significant milestone for the community.2. Large corporations are resistant to AI adoption due to multiple factors including political dynamics within organizations and employees fearing job loss. Many companies that grew during the pandemic are now using AI as an excuse to downsize when the real issue is inefficiency from rapid expansion. Stewart observed that even technical people in machine learning often don't understand how to properly use AI tools because they lack linguistic and humanities training. The fundamental problem is educational, requiring companies to train people how to use these new tools while those same people resist learning them.3. Vibe coding has evolved significantly with Claude Code being a game changer that reduced the technical barrier to entry. Before Claude Code, developers needed substantial technical knowledge to work through constant doom loops and debugging cycles. The success of coding AI tools stems from thirty years of testing infrastructure that provides clear yes or no feedback on whether code works. This infrastructure doesn't exist in the same way for manufacturing, science, and other fields, which is why software became the dominant area for AI assistance initially.4. Claude's quality degradation over recent months resulted from multiple factors including distillation attacks by Chinese companies who reverse engineered Anthropic's reasoning capabilities. Anthropic had hired philosophers, sociologists, and psychologists to develop exceptional reasoning in Claude 4.5, but this was expensive to run. When Chinese models like Kimi copied these capabilities at one tenth the cost, and when mainstream users flooded the platform before Anthropic's planned IPO, the company had to reduce quality to manage computational costs. This represents a significant loss for power users who relied on Claude's superior reasoning abilities.5. Stewart built a podcast recording application to replace Riverside because he needed API access to automate workflows, which Riverside wanted one thousand dollars monthly to provide. The technical challenge involves syncing audio and video from local recordings on multiple computers with different clocks through a server, then merging them so voices match lip movements. This problem requires understanding complex timing issues across different network conditions and file formats. Stewart has been working through AI psychosis for months on this FFMPEG pipeline problem, illustrating how vibe coding still requires building intuition about technical problems even without traditional coding knowledge.6. The transition from expert software to prosumer software represents a major opportunity for AI-enabled tools. Expert software like Photoshop, Blender, and terminal interfaces have extreme complexity that intimidates beginners, but AI is making these capabilities accessible through natural language. The reign of specialists is ending as generalists with broad knowledge and curiosity can now build complete applications by leveraging AI to fill technical gaps. This shift particularly benefits entrepreneurs and founders who specialize in getting into difficult situations and figuring them out, even when they originally thought tasks would be easier than they turned out to be.7. Building applications with AI requires accepting massive time investments beyond initial estimates and developing strategies for overcoming knowledge gaps. Michael estimated his ecommerce content generation app would take months but spent nearly a year working over nine hours daily, while Stewart spent months solving audio-video sync issues. Success requires using tools like deep research to understand how competitors solve problems, maintaining separate planning and coding agents, and learning to ask the right questions. The key insight is that vibe coders can achieve ninety percent of functionality independently, but the final ten percent often requires understanding specific technical concepts that AI cannot intuit without proper context and domain knowledge.

This show has been flagged as Clean by the host. In our sample game we look at playing as Austria and aiming for a Diplomatic Victory. And our focus is on puppeting Citty-States, but be I misunderstood and instead of making a Diplomatic Victory easier, it makes it harder. I still managed to get my Diplomatic Victory, but a Science or Domination Victory would definitely have been easier in this scenario. Playing Civilization V, Part 12 A Diplomatic Victory Strategy Civilization V introduced a new Victory type and I thought it might be fun to try this strategy for a sample game to see broadly how this would work. I decided I would play as Austria on Prince level, which means that all players are equal and no one is favored. For my map I chose Fractal, Map Size = Standard, Game speed = Standard. My only Advanced Option was Quick Combat, because I didn't need to see that drawn out, particularly since I plan to avoid combat as much as necessary. My leader is Maria Theresa, and her Austria has a unique ability called Diplomatic Marriage. This allows us to either Annex or Puppet any city-state that has been allied to us for 5 turns with the proper expenditure of Gold. My plan was to use this to Puppet the city-states to control their votes for the Diplomatic Victory, but that was a misunderstanding. I actually implemented one of the hardest ways to win a Diplomatic Victory. But that is what I did. Now to get them to ally with me the most effective way to do this is with cash and lots of it, and of course even more cash to actually effect to Puppeting of them. So my overriding objective in this game is to amass a large Treasury. But of course I cannot ignore my military either, since a weak military invites attacks form greedy neighbors. And I may need to “liberate” the occasional city-state if another player conquers them. Austria also has a Unique Unit, the Hussar, which replaces the Cavalry unit. It can move after attacking, has a flanking bonus, and has one extra movement. And the Unique Building is the Coffee House, which increases the generation of Great People in the city by 25%. So you can expect me to build these in every city as well. With that in mind, I started the game and settled in place, I had Mountains nearby, but also Sheep and Silver within my city, so some useful resources. I immediately started to produce a Scout as my first unit, and sent my Warrior out to explore. In the very early stage I focus on exploring the surrounding area and finding any Goody Huts, i.e. Ruins. My initial city site is not exactly ideal, as it is all hilly with Jungle nearby. After building my two Scouts, my next priority was to build a Worker unit to increase the productivity of my city. And for my first social policy I unlocked Tradition. When I got my second policy I picked Oligarchy, and plan to complete all of the Tradition tree. I cleared out a Barbarian encampment, and then discovered my first City-state, Vilnius. Then I needed to clear out another Barbarian encampment that was blocking me from finishing my exploration. Meanwhile I am focusing on getting techs for sailing the ocean blue, because that is how I plan to get trade routes, discover City-states I can puppet, and so on. Because money is key to my strategy I made a beeline for Currency in the my Science research. And while headed there I completed the Tradition tree. When I can get there I will work on the Commerce tree to maximize my cash, but until then the Patronage tree will let me improve my City-state relations, which is important for improving my relationships with City-states. After all, you need to be allies with them for 5 turns before you can puppet them. I now have three cities, and can probably squeeze out a few more, which should be sufficient to my needs. At Turn 141 I have 6 cities, which is all I will build in this game. I now have the technology to build Workshops, which are the first productivity boosters available, so I set all my cities to building them. For Research my immediate object was to get to Compass so I could build the Galleass, which would let me do more ocean exploration. But to go into deep Ocean I will need to go further to get Astronomy, which will let me build the Caravel which can enter deep ocean. Once I got that I switched to Banking, not just for the money, but as a prerequisite to building the Forbidden Palace, which grants two additional delegates in the World Congress/United Nations. When I get Banking I'll go back to Astronomy, and then Navigation, to advance my seagoing capabilities. By Turn 216 I had gotten Banking and started on the Forbidden Palace. And by luck, just as I got started I got a Great Engineer. I am holding him in reserve in case I need to hurry production, since Great Engineers are the only way to do that in Civ 5. I also picked up Astronomy, which will let me build Caravels to explore the whole ocean. My next research priority will be Gunpowder since it is time to beef up my defenses. At Turn 240 my Caravels started to come out, and I found several new City-States. And since my Treasury is healthy (I started with 6,000 gold, and I'm bringing in 100 each turn), I began the process of puppeting the City-states. Puppeting City-states as Austria Let's look at this in detail since it is important. The requirements are 2 things: Be allied with the City-state for 5 consecutive turns Have the cash needed. This amount is not too much early on, but it rises over time. So, how do you become allies with a City-state? There are a number of things you can do to improve your relationship. You can take on a quest that a City-state has published, which can be things like “Find another Natural Wonder” or “Create a Great Admiral”. These quests pop up continuously throughout the game, and you are free to ignore them, but fulfilling one will improve your relationship. Trade will also improve your relationship, so in this game all of my Trade routes were made with City-states. If you are in a position to have a successful war, you can find a former City-state that was conquered by one of the other Empires, liberate it, and then it will be your ally for the rest of the game. Giving them presents is how I usually do it, though. You can give them units or money. If your purpose is to get allies, money works best. But I do gift units in 2 circumstances. First, if I have obsolete units, giving them away might be better then deleting them. Second, if a City-state is under attack by another Empire. Gifting them units might help them hold out and make life difficult for a rival. The place where all of this is done is the City-state screen which opens up when you click on the bar above the City-state, which is where you handle all of your relationships. At the top of this screen you see your current status, which more often than not will be Neutral, which is how all City-state relationships start out. But you can get them angry by, for instance, moving a unit of your into their territory. If you only do it once, and give them time to get over it, they will go back to Neutral. You can also improve the relationship by pledging to protect them, but be careful. If they get attacked and you do not try to protect them, they will get very angry. Giving a gift opens a pop-up to say what kind of gift: 250 gold, 500 gold, 1000 gold, or a Unit. Note that a Unit is only worth 5 influence points, while 250 Gold is worth 20, so as I said Money is more powerful if your aim is to improve your status with them. So at Turn 242 I found the City-state of Singapore, and it appears that I was the first Empire to find them. So I immediately pledged to protect them. My Influence with them was 20, which is Neutral. We just met, and that is where things stand on first meeting. The be Friends you need to get to 30, and to be allies you need to get to 60. When I clicked Next Turn, I got a Quest from Singapore. They were worried about a Barbarian Encampment nearby, and if I cleared it out I would get additional influence with them. In this case, though, I let that go by. I want to move more quickly, and Singapore is across the Ocean from me. My influence with them at this point was 21, so only a modest increase. But I have 6038 Gold in my Treasury, and I am bringing in 102 per turn. So let's see what a gift of 500 Gold will do. It brings me to 65 influence, so we are now Allies. But when I mouse-over Singapore, the pop-up window reminds me that my Influence will decrease by 1.12 per turn. For an Empire other than Austria this would mean a regular infusion of cash to keep up your status. And I have won Diplomatic victories with other Empires by saving up a lot of cash and dumping it on City-states just before the United Nations vote. But for Austria you have special ability called Diplomatic Marriage that lets you turn the City-state into a Puppet, and that is permanent. But it also presents some obstacles as we will see. We are allies now, but my influence will drop by 1 each turn, and I might lose my allyship before I can puppet them. But I can gift a unit and get another 5, and I happen to have a very obsolete Warrior unit that will serve the purpose. However, it takes three turns for the Unit to arrive, so I lose few more points. At Turn 247 I can now use the diplomatic Marriage option to make a puppet of Singapore. Prior to doing this I was fourth in score with 604, while the leader had 729. My Happiness Level was +25, and I now had 5833 Gold in my Treasury. Then I made Singapore a puppet, and now I am third in the game with a score of 664. My Treasury has fallen to 5258, which means it cost me 575 Gold. But most significant is that my Happiness fell from +25 to +9, which is a huge loss. I have enough gold to puppet 4-5 more City-states at this time but if I did I would have rebellions breaking out and my Empire would eventually collapse. This is the obstacle that Austria has to face. We need to promote Happiness before we go much further with making puppets. Civ is always a game of balances. When Carrissa Wu signed the lease on her first studio in a Fremantle warehouse, she remembers thinking, “What have I done?” She had just quit a stable corporate job at a Perth casino, had a growing stack of Etsy orders for paper flower bouquets, and a long list of dreams she had written down in that tiny first space: work with the King's Park Botanic Gardens, get featured in Frankie magazine, build a team. Every single one of those things has happened. In this Episode of Paper Talk Podcast, Carrissa joins hosts Quynh Nguyen, Jessie Chui, and Sara Kim to tell the full story of Jotterbook Flowers, her paper flower business based out of Perth, Australia. She talks about how COVID gave her the space to rediscover making, how a mentor's advice to pick one bread-and-butter revenue stream led her to workshops, and how Perth's post-lockdown environment created a surge in demand that she could barely keep up with. "You forgot the scissors for a workshop? We just learned to make a checklist. It's not a you problem, it's a systems problem." — Carrissa Key Takeaways from this Episode: Pick one reliable revenue stream before experimenting with others. Hire for personality and relational skills since technical craft can be taught. Train team members through a staggered observation-to-independence process. Treat mistakes as systems problems, not personal failures. Know your numbers and be willing to cut overhead when the math stops working. Being “finished” with one creative chapter is not failure; it is freedom to start the next one. The skills you build in running a creative business transfer to whatever comes next. Learn more about Carrissa Jotterbook Flowers is Perth's Original Crepe Paper Flower Studio, founded by artist Carrissa Wu. The panel starts with Apple's 26.5 updates across iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, Apple Watch, Apple TV, and HomePod. The group discusses bug fixes, security improvements, wallpaper updates, and Apple's move to allow longer-term app subscriptions with monthly payment options. The conversation highlights Apple's new end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging support and automatic pairing for Magic accessories on iPad after connecting via USB. The panel also emphasizes the importance of installing the updates because of the large number of security vulnerabilities Apple patched, including WebKit exploits and kernel-related issues. Marty, Eric, and Dave discuss arcade-style air hockey in immersive spatial computing complete with sound effects and airflow simulation. On the Mac side, Jeff Gamet details a frustrating USB accessory issue introduced after updating to macOS 26.5. Wired accessories including keyboards, Stream Decks, cameras, and USB hubs stopped functioning until security settings were adjusted under Privacy & Security. The discussion expands into Apple's enterprise-focused fixes, SMB networking bugs, black-screen startup issues, and unexpected restarts on newer Macs.   The panel also explores several Mac utilities and productivity tools. Jeff discusses Bartender 6 and Bartender Pro, including new notch-focused "Top Shelf" features that turn the MacBook notch into a Dynamic Island-style productivity area. The group also looks at NextPad++, an AI-assisted Mac port inspired by Notepad++, and debates whether AI-generated software development is moving too fast. BBEdit also gets praise as a long-standing favorite text editor for Mac users. Browser privacy becomes another major topic after reports surfaced that Google Chrome quietly downloaded a hidden 4GB AI-related file to Macs. The panel discusses privacy concerns surrounding Chrome, Google's tracking reputation, and alternatives including Firefox, Edge, Safari, and Helium, a Chromium-based browser Jeff recommends because of its strong privacy protections and plugin compatibility. The conversation then shifts to Apple hardware news with improving MacBook Neo availability and Apple reportedly increasing A18 Pro chip orders to meet overwhelming demand. The panel debates Apple's supply chain strategy and whether Apple underestimated how successful the $599 MacBook Neo would become. Additional stories include a new joint satellite venture between AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile aimed at improving iPhone connectivity in dead zones, Intel reportedly testing fabrication of future Apple chips, and reactions to the Steve Jobs commemorative U.S. dollar coin that sold out in minutes. The panel closes with a fun discussion about Ted Lasso actor Cristo Fernández training with a professional soccer team after playing Danny Rojas on the hit Apple TV+ series. In this episode, Kirk Behrendt explains how to turn core values into daily decision-making tools with Heather Crockett, coach at ACT Dental. You'll learn how to make values behavioral and observable, build them into your communication rhythms, and use them as a practical filter for hiring, accountability, and tough leadership calls. Listen to Episode 1049 of The Best Practices Show!Main Takeaways:Core values only work when they drive daily behavior, not when they're just words on a wall.Values must be actionable and observable so the team can interpret and apply them consistently.“Core values without function” shows up as subjective interpretations, inconsistent culture, and leaders hesitating to hold people accountable.Make each value behavioral by defining what it means, documenting examples of how it shows up, and listing the results when it's alive and well.Operationalize values by embedding them into hiring, onboarding, daily huddles, weekly team meetings, monthly check-ins, and quarterly planning.Use values as the decision-making filter for real-time issues like scheduling, finances, patient care, and team dynamics to reduce decision fatigue.Hire and evaluate people on two criteria: they get results and they fit your core values, using tools like a Right Person, Right Seat scorecard.Snippets:00:00 How to turn core values into daily decision-making tools.02:10 Why core values matter only if they drive behavior.03:10 Why vague values (like “excellence” or “integrity”) don't work as daily tools.04:30 What “core values without function” looks like inside a practice.06:10 How to make values behavioral with definitions, examples, and outcomes.08:00 Using “anti-values” and standout team behaviors to clarify what you want.10:10 Putting core values into systems and communication rhythms.12:10 Using huddles and team meetings for value shout-outs and accountability.18:00 Using core values as a daily decision filter to reduce decision fatigue.22:10 Heather's final takeaways on visibility, systems, and reflection.23:50 BPA tools mentioned: Identifying Core Values, bringing values alive, Right Person Right Seat scorecard.Guest Bio/Guest Resources:Heather Crockett is a Lead Practice Coach who finds joy in not only improving practices but improving the lives of those she coaches as well.
